New Ideas for Fractal Levels

I’ve always had mix-feelings about the fractals but I do know one thing, there exists the opportunity to make some really great levels given enough time and testing, along with proper balancing between casual and hardcore type players.

So today, I was thinking about new ideas for Fractals and I had an idea that could satisfy both types of players ~

Branching Fractals -

Branded Battle
Players must fight against Kralkatorrik’s minons in order to save some [insert researchers/soldiers/civilians] during the encounter, after the players defeat the first sub-boss they are given a choice of paths to take. First path is the easier option with trash mobs and a slightly quicker path to the final boss, second path has much more trash mobs and an extra boss fight (w/ achievement) however once the path is chosen, the other path becomes blocked off so the players are forced with the decision they make.

This gives casual players and/or players wanting to complete the fractal a faster and easier way to the end, but also gives the hardcore/achievement hunters and extra option with a extra chance for a bit of loot at the expense of extra risk/time.

Its not really fun anymore ~ most people do them because of the chances for pre-cursors but after running it for months and for the most part, having very little to show for it starts to turn most players off.

Lets face it, the chance to get pre-cursors from the dragons is probably so tiny, players probably have a better chance to win money on the lottery.

The problem here, everyone knows the strats ~ everyone at this level knows the fight.

What your quoting here, is so much harder to do in practice. Your talking about combo fields when the ‘average’ player doesn’t probably even know what that is..

Also, bunching up during the elemental phases is inviting AoE spam. As for AR, that isn’t the problem because everyone should have at least 15AR by now anyway.

Sure, its not impossible but it is the most difficult boss probably in the game right now. And that spells trouble soon, even if experienced players have a tough time. How about trying it with random pugs? How many times is that pug going to listen to anyone? How many times is the pug going to have certain skills equipped? Etc…etc…etc – the entire fight requires almost a pro level player ability in order to succeed, and even then ~ the wrong party make up can always contribute to failure too.

Again, simply put ~ come the changes to fractals soon ~ this fight needs to be nerfed so the casual players and pugs can actually do it. Either that, or add in literally a million different levels so this one hardly ever appears.

Why does WvW have to be in World Completion?

I think most of us are totally NOT INTERESTED in killing other players..
And the only reason most people are in WvW is because its one of the easiest and most efficient ways to farm Karma.
Oh and its full of underwater farming botts too..
And people camped in the jumping puzzle 24 hours a day to get there ‘’easy kills’’
The only Added danger in it is if one zerg is going clockwise round the map and the other is going anti clockwise and they accidently bump into each other.
Even then with the culling issue you dont see 90% of the people on either side so where is the excitement in that.??

Most of us not interested in killing other players?

Only reason people WvW is for easy karma?

I concur, ALL those problems are legitimate – I’ve seen them all myself too. Posts like this has appeared since launch ~ and I agree, WvW shouldn’t have any part with a PvE title, after all ~ WvW is a PvP Hybrid Map, with heavy emphasis on PvP.

I seriously think this fight after fractal mist level 20+ really needs nerfing to be honest. It is ‘barely’ puggable, it requires such a finely tuned team with plenty of reflection skills and awesome survivability skills against the onslaught of the elementals.

Even on lower fractal levels this fractal is pretty difficult but it really is getting crazy now, without enough reflection skills the boss can literally wipe out a player with ease, that really isn’t the problem though ~ its the 20+ elementals that spawn which is – how about lowering the amount spawned so its a more manageable size? Not to mention, the chances of it bugging are high too.

Everyone just skips this fractal if its the first one anyway ~ and most pugs who get this end up failing the entire run wasting everyones time ~ which leads to players building up frustration aimed at the game/developers. I can see this level of difficulty in scale 50 – 70+ but not at 20, come the fractal changes later this month/Feb if this particular fractal isn’t changed so it can be easily puggable like the rest then expect major QQ from all sides. Just imagine all the players who are at scale <10 suddenly try to do 20s or higher…lets not even talk about AR here.

The shock factor alone will put many players off because of the range of difficulty. Simply put here, the fight needs everyone to bring A-game to this fight, requires far too much from the average players ~ and certainly requires too much from a pick-up group – please consider removing some of the elementals so the fight, will still be a challenge but something that is going to be a brickwall for most players.

Isn’t Prayer to Dwayna is a pretty bad healing skill lol. Also that one actually makes sense – if the trait triggers on “skills with name x, y, or z”, versus “trigger on skills that have attribute X” (and all skills have attributes that determine if they’re healing or shout or whatever), it’d make sense that someone forgot to add the racial skills into it.

Not to say it shouldn’t be fixed, obviously, but it’s not a braindead obvious bug like “giver gear doesn’t do anything”.

Prayer to Dwayna isn’t bad, its under-rated. It gives set amount of healing compared to Ether-Feast which can give ‘slightly’ more if you have illusions up, its a trade off between guaranteed healing rate and taking a gamble for more.

I think the problem in general is issues like this have been a problem before launch, and still are a problem today. Sure, you can say they are under-staffed but after the QA panel alot of questions was answered but has anything actually happened in regards to fixing the game?

It was a bug, we had team members in range. We had a necromancer definitely in range, even though ~ this mechanic shouldn’t come into play in the dungeon.

I think what happened, the boss targeted one of our group members who was outside its range, and it whats perhaps bugged it ~ the necromancer was definately within range, and was rezzing someone.

Been running fractals since Lost Shores event, that’s my sample size. When you run a dungeon enough times, you pick up on things, especially average loot drops. I’m not the only person to notice a drop off.

You guys are seriously out for blood.

What about the people who QA’d it, and let it slip through testing? What about the person who designed it in the first place (for cases like Lyssa runes coming in Karma armor)? What about the person who made a comment on the forums that got misinterpreted in a way that turned out to be false?

How do you think they should be held accountable, exactly?

EDIT: ^^^ Did it actually bug or did you guys stop attacking it and it reset because it went out of combat? I’ve never seen the former, but I’ve seen the latter quite often, which is usually when most of the party is dead and one guy’s running around ressing people and no one’s keeping aggro on the boss.

On that Imbued Shaman you’re almost always going to be ressing someone, if the boss concentrates all of its attacks on one player, no one can survive it – even with managing to dodge some of them, which with both know…is really hard.

The problem isn’t with agony or anything like that, is really the amount of elementals per shield phase that spawns, it is pretty stupid considering each one is dangerous enough, factor in 20 of those running around + lava pits + boss randomly AoEing – someone is going to die

Loot in fractals has been stealth nerfed, or running into DR. I’ve done many runs and noticed a significant drop in loot quality over the past few weeks, one time you could get anything up to 5 rares + a decent chance for exotics – these days, your lucky if you get 1 or 2.

As for our fractal team, it was actually a pretty experienced team – we got beat down by a bugs – which should never happen.

I honestly have to agree, earlier today wasted around 2 hours in fractal 20 and couldn’t pass the volcano level because the boss fight is stupidly hard, the time we was going to down it – it bugged and fully healed back to 100%

There has been a morass of problems since launch, alot have been fixed ~ but at the cost of breaking other components.

After wasting the best part of 2 hours on fractal scale 20, everything going great until we hit the volcano level, the Legendary Imbued Shaman is pretty easy on lower scales, but now it is getting pretty stupid, which almost instant one shots, spawning 20+ elementals per shield phase and apparently a bug in which it can reset and fully heal.

The general FOTM loot scales has been nerfed so much in recent patches, so it got me thinking ~ the general state of dungeons right now in terms of time spent vs reward is actually on the low side. I know this is perhaps to combat speed farmers but what about regular players? We want the dungeons never to bug out on us period, and we want to be rewarded with our time and efforts. The game is entering a dangerous period, its been many months since launch now, alot of players have quit and the game needs to retain its population levels, its time to start making the remaining population happy.

For me, to keep me happy ~ I just want a bug free and non-frustrating dungeon experience – Fractals at higher scales are just about wall punching, no innovation just harder hitting mobs, more mobs. How about more innovation? Whats fractal scale 80+ going to be like? Every 2nd mob upgraded to champions? I shudder to think..

Got the boss down to about 15% then became immune and fully healed back up to 100%. This fight without the bugs is ridiculous, and with bugs is impossible. Please look into this Devs, this shouldn’t happen.

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

The respawn is pretty high in certain places, look at the Maze Skill Challenge in Cursed Shore for instance, the veteran and risen respawn within 30 seconds, which is literally barely enough time to kill both, then start the skill challenge fight and quite often the mobs respawn before you even kill the SP mob.

Top tier and top level are two different things, just like in other MMos where level caps was increased and new level weapons/armor are introduced, the same will happen here ~ don’t expect your legendary items to immediately get bumped up to level 90 etc, expect to use Fine Transmutation Stones.

They’ll remain top tier as in Ascended, that’s guaranteed but the level will not increase otherwise what is the point of adding in a new level cap if a chunk of players can just bypass the content and new gear chase? No, trust me ~ expect to re-acquire higher level gear.

Since Jan 3rd is almost upon us, why not actually give all the players actually trying to get this a proper shot at it without ridiculous RNG?

How many gifts have you guys opened up? Whats been your best reward? Seriously, I lost count days ago. My best reward from gifts has been far too many exotic givers recipes I care to mention..

How about, throwing it on the vendor for 1000 ugly sweaters or something…just a suggestion :p

I think that is the million dollar question for MMos, how to make the game challenging without the grind. Honestly, I can’t answer that one because very single one I’ve played since 1997 has had grind in someway, shape or form.

I believe there is a very small chance for ectos from level 70+ greens, but the chance is extremely low not risk wasting BLTC kits on them.

Just 2c here, the monthly reward doesn’t really affect gameplay that much tbh, you only get some karma jugs and some mystic coins, its not like you get anything unique.

Besides, Fotm is perhaps one of the easiest dungeons in the game if you do the lower scale levels. As for WvW; yeah will give you that one ~ but unless your literally on a dead end server that always loses then it could be a problem. I personally did WvW for about 30 minutes earlier just to finish off one of the maps and in that time joined a few of the zergs around and racked up about 38/50 kills needed ~ so again, its not really that hard.

One of the biggest problems with Legendarys is simple, bots and hackers ruining it for a start. How many players honestly legitimately own one? I can see a fair amount of players now 4 months after launch own one, but how about the players owning more than one Legendary? How about the players owning three, or four? How about 6? I’ve personally witnessed players bragging about how many legendarys they own, even SS’s a few just in case a situation like this appeared.

You want to know how many bots are around? Not just gold farmers, but mat farmers too? There is a very significant amount of hackers which are US based, the reasons for hackers? To show off, simply put ~ and legendary items give these types of players large ego boosts, you think most will spend 4 months grinding when they could use a cheat-engine and/or bot and have that do most of the work for them?

Just look at the rife hacking community in many MMo and FPS, I just wish GW2 had some solid anti-cheat protection like punkbuster.

You want some solutions for Legendarys? ~ Simple

Make Legendarys account bound period

Increase pre-cursor drops from dungeons//fractals Scale 20+
Account Bound only

Decrease mats requirements significantly
Make a far better way to make clovers than relying on RNG

Increase drop rate of various mats like WvW tokens

Well it’s very likely that we will be able to repeat the JPs and still have them count towards the monthly.

Well, alts running JPs count so thats not too bad, I’m guessing that every reset the JPs will count again, so even if most people are bad at JPs, just repeating the easier ones should be enough,

What is with all these people who can’t seem to read? And it’s always the same first two posts, don’t you guys ever get off? And more importantly, don’t you do any research before you spout your ill-informed opinions as facts?

Arenanet has blatantly stated, Legendaries ARE NOT supposed to be exclusively for the most hardcore players. Stop spreading this baseless lie! If it is your opinion that they should be that exclusive, well sucks for you, because the game designers don’t think so. As stated by ANet they are meant to be a long term goal for everyone. But ANet admits they are currently unobtainable by most of the playerbase because of how much inflation outweighs gold gain for the casual player.

Arenanet has also stated that they are working to fix this, and it will be implemented, regardless of how hardcore players, gold-buyers, elitists, and market exploiters feel about it. Don’t like it? Leave. Precursors ARE getting a defined way of obtaining them, certain legendary components ARE being made easier to obtain, and inflation will be reigned in given time. Gaining a legendary will still be difficult, and time consuming, but it will actually be possible for everyone. Sorry if that makes elitists feel less special, but honestly with the terrible way you treat your fellow gamers, you deserve that and worse.

I hope everything you’ve posted does actually come to fruition, this change will benefit everyone. But, clearly put ~ your post is great

We may not be entitled to legendairies BUT we ARE entitled to a BOT FREE game.

The way legendairies are acquired, they are SUPPORTING botting.

So what about ban bots/hackers instead of wanting Legendaries to be easyer so even casual player can have them in 2 weeks? hm??

I am really amazed about these posts … How can anyone complain that Legendary weapons are hard to obtain WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HARD TO OBTAIN.

Its like asking manufacturer of Bentley to make theirs cars cheaper because they are hard to obtain, expensive… really?

They are not hard to obtain, they are mindless to obtain. There is a difference!! The mindless way is what caters to gold farmers, hackers and cheaters bypassing the insane grind and don’t give me to lame kitten response because, I know it ~ you know it, everyone knows it that a significantly population of players currently owning Legendary weapons cheated to get them, the problem is actually knowing who is legit and who isn’t ~ simply put, there isn’t ~

Before ascended came out, no one really cared if they got a legendary or not. But now, its a problem ~ and something anet needs to address.

ANet have obviously never played MMO’s like WoW where acquiring legendary weapons actually have you out doing a raid and a legendary quest line instead of simply grinding 24/7 oh and having DR in the game just immediately makes me think they want us to just bot and afk and the other obvious motive getting us into the gem store.

…You realise some bosses in WoW just DROPPED legendaries? That was it. Just a drop.

You also realize those drops was extremely rare too, in fact the chance for any player to get one is actually lower than GW2 method to attain them. The difference between this game and WoW is that everyone had more or less an equal chance to get them, there wasn’t any bot/hack to interfere and most importantly of all, that legendary didn’t effect the economy in any way.

Seriously, 450g for a legendary? Man thats actually cheap as kitten. Stop killing zombies in orr and learn how to play the market. When the trading post isnt busy glitching, eating your money, or just being downright stone-age garbage to interface with (always) , you can make a ton of gold barely trying.
They ought to raise the requirements if anything. They’re LEGENDARY. You’re sposed to have to work for it dip kitten.

But you realize right?, playing the market and being a power trader is also what is screwing up the game?

We may not be entitled to legendairies BUT we ARE entitled to a BOT FREE game.

The way legendairies are acquired, they are SUPPORTING botting.

You must be new to MMOs. There are bots in every game.

Anet has done a great job with the purging of bots. You would know if you had played before early November.

They haven’t purged nothing, all the bots are under the maps surface so you can’t see them. Want proof? I can provide it ~ if anything, the bot problem is 10x worse now than it was a month ago

What really gets me is the hate that comes with these gold sinks. Look at what the commanders are going though, everyone hates on them, lol. Starting to be that way with legendaries too “Oh you must have bought that, RMT, hacker, etc”

It was yes a few months ago. If you saw one it was 99% and exploiter or gold buyer. But now since about month ago most are legit now. Things have become so legit that they are openly traded and not via RMT by shady website.
casuals should take 5 months to get for a time frame and HC 2-3 months was the time frame for it.

They are far beyond vanity now as they will be constantly BIS and perpetually raised to that level forever. That removes all grind in the future for a weapon slot upon release of a tier.See Lindsey Marshalls post for specifics.
And yes you can just buy one at level 1 by converting gems ->gold.

Are you aware that this game has a gem to gold conversion? Unless of course you want to lump those people who buy and sell gems in the same breath as RMT companies.

Oh, and many months ago, prices were completely different. T6 and globs were cheap. Precursors were relatively cheap.

Yes, but if you use a gold farming website, the exchange rate you would get is very significantly better, and because of that fact ~ you’re always going to get people willing to risk it and speaking from knowing people who have brought gold from farmers in ‘other’ games, its not always possible for developers to monitor those transactions, and so far, we don’t know what happens here, but I’m willing to bet ~ more than a few people with legendary probably did buy gold.

And the nerf drop rate of exotics? Same theory?
Also green and blue drops were nerfed. What is the theory behind it?

I haven’t got a random exotic drop in nearly a month, if not longer and that also includes from doing fotm 10 daily too. Drop rates seem lower in general.

No, I want a challenge to get legendary items, not a grindfest. The current process to attain them is stupid, clearly open invitation for hackers and bots and doesn’t help the game in the slightest.

Don’t make me frap a video of all the bots appearing, you can easily tell these are bots. I even had a few guildies check to make sure even I was seeing things, these are clear examples of bots appearing at the zone entrances for a split second, so fast most of the time you only see a brief glimpse of them.

@Kacigarka Dont you see though is that the hackers etc, are contributing to the problem with legendaries to begin with? Many of these bots are tagged players.

Just sit at a zone entrance for 10 minutes, or even better at a Ori node for 10 minutes and tell me your not shocked at the amount of botters that’ll appear, and how many of those are hackers and not just bots? There is a difference after all ~

The other problem is like Vol said, Because its so long after launch, it is near impossible to tell the legitimate owners of Legendary from the hackers or gold buyers. I posted a few months ago that for $30, you could buy 100g, if you used anet you would be lucky to get 30g for that $30.

The entire setup for right now, is just wrong.

Crafting a Legendary is easy. If you play everyday for 2 or 3 hours for like 2 months you will get it naturally.
If you want it faster, go TP and buy it.
The whole point is Legendary is completely useless. Not worthy the hassle to farm neither the money to buy it from TP. Calling it Legendary is another artificial hype.

Yeah, can you afford 1000g? lol You realise how long that will take to farm, and then your contributing to gold farming directly. Its a lose-lose situation. What needs to happen at the very minimum is all crafted legendarys need to be Account Bound.

Its one of the reasons why the bots are getting out of hand, I’ve been sitting at Mount Maelstrom zone entrance for the past 20 minutes, and I’ve seen a really scary amount of bots, both guild tagged and obvious farmers.

Once you have what is considered a best in slot item, and legendary items will be automatically buffed, you’re going to get alot of problems appearing. And considering the time/grind, many players are not just going to sit around for months trying to farm up the requirements, they’ll cheat ~ that is one of the issues I’m steadfastly arguing about, and thus ~ the only way they’ll be able to stop this is by changing how they are crafted.

Hackers own legendary weapons, and should be banned imho. Don’t think so? how about some of the players who got some of the first legendarys a few weeks after launch? What about many of the current playerbase of non-legit players using bots? That doesn’t happen right? So don’t go preaching about hate, Legendarys are a stupid e=peen method which is just simply making the game more bot and hack ridden.

For the most part, Legendary items wasn’t really a problem until ascended items appeared.

First off, this isn’t the first time I’ve posted something like this and I will continue posting until the developers finally realise the current process for making Legendarys isn’t fine, its actually contributing to even more BOT problems, and is making the game very un-attractive for new players to join, because of the general state of the TP market place, alot of my ex-hardcore friends from various other MMos refuse to even touch GW2 because of the insane grind for any legendary.

So, lets break it down for new players, and anyone else ~ The cheapest Legendary is probably Kraitkin, however the gold requirements alone are still pretty insane really. Lets not even factor in > DR < which complicates matters even more!!

So, theoretically one of the ‘cheapest’ Legendary weapons will cost you approx 541g obviously, that is assuming you are buying all the mats and not farming, but still that is really an insane amount of farming required, plus having to deal with DR makes it really stupid.

This is why there are so many bots out there ~ If you think the game is more bot free these days? Your dead wrong, there all under the surface of the map, literally hundreds of them ~ both multi-boxers and gold farmers alike.

Legendarys right now, especially with them appearing on the TP raise many serious questions, and right now ~ anet are being quiet on this subject, and its about time the players was given some responses, its high time for some changes. There needs to be multiple-ways to acquire these items, agreed ~ they shouldn’t be easy to get, but the current requirements are just insane and is whats breeding a very unhealthy hacker/bot population fueled by greed.

And finally, the average player of GW2 will just never get a legendary weapon, pure and simple because of the stupid requirements, the non-hacker players will just more or less give up and go quit, which hurts the game in general. Lets face it, the average player, heck even totally LEGIT players probably have less than 200g even if they played from launch, especially considering an unfavorable RNG.
