So the decap engie is the same as other bunker builds, but better at defending the point.

Isn’t that sort of the definition of overpowered?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s as bad as HS warriors, but I think it does need to be toned down a little. The number of times you can get knocked down/bounced off a point is silly, especially when you consider how little effort is required to be successful at it.

Well, a lot of that survivability comes from the knockbacks. Without the knockbacks the decap engi has no where near the staying power of a traditional bunker.

That’s why I said you make the nodes bigger. A decap engineer just becomes another bunker. Some of the best fights happen at mid Foefire with the huge node.

Disclaimer: I play an Engineer, but have never played a decap engi, nor do I have plan on it. I hate builds people consider cheese (why I have never bought a set or perplexity runes for roaming…as a matter of fact my rune set is considered terrible for an engineer). I am fine with them nerfing the Flamethrower knockback, buts that’s because I hate the FT.

I also don’t find bunker fun in general. I prefer being in the main fight.

The best way to “nerf” decap engi is to make the nodes bigger. They are WAY too small right now, and allow AOE spam and knockbocks become way too powerful.

Honestly the way a decap engi should be nerfed is by making nodes bigger. The build cannot kill anything, survives like any other bunker, and thrives on the fact that nodes are small.

Edit: For disclaimer I have never played a decap engi and never plan on it, but I do run some builds that use some of the same traits or skills.

This affects the economy one way or another (if they are hitting a cloud storage provider then it hurts much more than Anet), and should be treated the same by the authorities.

The only drawback is hk4 when an immobilize lands on you, very frustrating. But other than that it is great… it most certainly is our best underwater heal for all those wvwe’rs out there.

Also, is it not 1 every 10 seconds for condition removal? I sometimes lay down clusters of med packs if I see an enemy coming.

I am thinking of making the 20g plunge into Lyssa runes for WvW roaming. I have been running them in sPvP and love them. Full condition clear on Supply Crate and a random boon on demand with the Med Kit.

I only use Med Kit now. Here are a few reasons:

-I have been using Lyssa lately to help with condition classes, and the on demand boon every 10 seconds is nice.

-Lay down health packs if you see a fight coming your way.

-Kiting in WvW roaming. Run and heal.

-Stimulant is great, especially for getting all the crit procs in early.

I was using a 4-kit build, but have dropped the EG for Elixir S (I do really miss EG, but I need to get stomps because so many people were able to rez on me in a multiple person fight).

All-Around Build

First, I much prefer the Med Kit over the HT (well…I just love the concept of a 4-kit engineer). Also, with no Speedy Kits (I do use Power Shoes), I pretty much use Stimulant on CD (the Fury is also nice).

I have been using Lyssa more since my post and I actually really like them. I do wish they were condition damage instead of precision, but precision is OK due to Vigor and IP.

The 10 second boon coupled with Stimulant works great for the opener. I still haven’t committed to going broke yet and still running Scavenger when roaming.

I have been playing variations of 30/0/20/20, 10/0/30/30, and 20/10/20/20 for a while. Roaming and sPvP. There is always some sacrifice that has to be made that I am uphappy with.

I will say this, the thing I hate most about Grenades is you are practically REQUIRED to use 30 points to make them viable. I also cannot give up Tool Kit or to a lesser degree Elixir Gun (I keep saying I will swap EG for Elixir S, but I never do).

Using a 4-kit build, I have started to use Lyssa runes in sPvP. I have 18.5 gold to my name, so before I go broke and use them roaming I want to get everyone’s thoughts on these. With healing kit I get a nice boon every 10 seconds from these runes. My primary bane has always been condition classes. When I see 5-10 conditions on me I usually die within 5 seconds. Even with the long SC cooldown, it is nice to have a full clear that isn’t Elixir C.

I do lose some damage from Scavenger (or Undead), but love the condition duration, random boom, and condition clear. Has anyone else tried this?

This one is for all the extremely OCD people out there:

Please allow “time travel” for the achievement categories that are never returning. Things like Wintersday are fine because we know it happens every year.

I have partially completed achievements that I know will never return (for example Sky Pirates). I also have partially ones that will HOPEFULLY return (Bazaar, Dragon Bash, etc).

When I didn’t complete these I had the “WoW mindset” that these would be returning again next year. After I realized they wouldn’t it adds a lot of stress for very short LW achievement categories (such as the one we are in right now when I am in failed overflow 24/7 on my home server).

Guesters should be kicked to overflow. AN should view this as an opportunity. If they FIX this problem (on BG you need to show up MORE than 2 hours before TTS to get a kill because of kittening guesters), then people would have to pay money to transfer.

Funny story with this. I had hot joined around 100-150+ matches pretty much exclusively as blue (I won’t tell the sad story of why I hate red, but I hate everything red, so I only play blue).

I then started doing my first tpvp. I was red. I wasn’t an actual bunker spec, but everyone had abandoned keep on Forest of Niflhel, so I was standing back in the corner waiting for the sucker to jump in am try to keep and me unleash my condition barrage.

The keep was BLUE though, so I assumed we owned it, but we were RED. /facepalm

I sat there staring at a point we didn’t own for a good minute assuming we owned it since it wasn’t red.

Is the patch really 11k files?

I HATED this JP at first. Literally took me 1+ hour to finish it the first time. I almost raged when I saw 1/20 on my achievments.

I then took the time to read the middle, and realized that it was a save point if I needed it. After that I got better at it. Last night I was at 9/20, and pretty easily did all 11 I needed in one 30 minute session and actually had fun (a run would take anywhere from 1.5-2.5 minutes).

Tixx’s Infinirium: How many people are required for this dungeon? I did the destroy everything achievement solo, and the groups weren’t too bad. I am just wondering if I brought along my low level buddy who plays a champ if we could duo it.

Toypocolyse: For the “Nothing bu Broken Toys” achievement, is this consecutive waves with no death? I am 44/50 right now…do I have to start from zero again, or will it tick up from 44 (if I can ever find a group for Toypocolypse again)?

How is that griefing? It isn’t the server they chose. I chose Blackgate over a year ago, now I have to sit around and wait for 1+ hour if I want to do Teq because my home server is filled with guests. We did have an overflow attempt tonight…I couldn’t even see Teq’s health any longer, but we failed on timer.

One way to fix this is to only allow guesting to be done by people invited by someone on that server.

Something definitely needs to be done. I guested around during the last Teq (even to a fellow T1 server), and it was empty. So it seems like everyone guests to a few servers (such as BG) for the 2-3 prime time kills, and all other times are empty.

Sorry to be the grammar kitten…but DUAL-spec. A duel is fight between 2 people.

There definitely needs to be a template system (I would like it to include equipment stats). I really want gear appearance and stats to be completely separated. This would allow us to freely switch specs and to maintain the appearance we have worked hard to achieve.

I am fine with these slots costing gems.

If someone from a server wants to participate in a world boss, they should get priority over someone guesting. I know this will probably never change, just frustrating that I can never get a TTS kill.

A person guesting should get bumped to overflow if someone from the home server wants in.

I guess my goal is to find a build with a reasonable chance in any 1v1, and survive a 1vX, because so many of my tPvP games have come down to these situations.

Not sure how long you expect to survive a 1vX but have you tried this build? It seems fairly popular at the moment:

Elixir S doesn’t have the res of R but it does give you double stealth and a invulnerability to escape. I’d also suggest P/S over P/P for Blocks/Stun/Knockback.

The main reason I use Elixir R is for the self-rez. The endurance is just a side benefit.

Blowtorch does a lot of damage, I may mess around some with the shield though.

I am currently using the Med Kit, but not sure if I should switch to Healing Turret. I can’t figure out which one I like more.

I have a set of gear I have transmuted. I want to transfer this look to my new set, but don’t want to lose my current gear because it cost a lot to buy in the first place.

Is the only way to do this transfer to use a Splitter followed by a Crystal? Don’t really want to eat the cost twice like that if I can avoid it.

I have been playing MMOs since 2002 (with most of that being pvp), but have much less pvp time in GW2 than I normally would. I have exclusively played an Engineer in a pvp environment (179 games played with 36 being soloQ…100% as Engineer)…I am Engineer irl, I can’t help but play this class.

I created a build and have used this for all 36 of my tPvP experiences (about 50% with P/S and rest with Rifle):

I was using this same build with P/S, but switched to the rifle due to shorter cooldown on the knockback. Regardless, I ran into similar problems with either weapon type. This build leans “bunkerish”, but with zero stability I just cannot make that claim. I feel like I help a lot on taking a point due to my decent knockback.

Here are my questions:

1) sPvP has a LOT of 1v1 fights, which I love. Therefore I want my build to be maximized for 1v1 encounters (note: I never skirmish, I always run to a point even if attacked off-point…so there is the knockback meta going on during all 1v1s). How can I deal with condition spam Necros and Mesmers? I have the right runes AND Automated Response, and it still feels like I can be dropped by a single Necro or Mesmer in less than 10 seconds, with almost all of that being me trying to keep myself alive and doing no damage to them.

2) Seeing that I use bomb spam, I prefer near-melee range. I have a real problem with high damage ranged classes that are content to stay back. Even with Magnet, this usually isn’t enough. How should I counter this? Another situation that arises sometimes in a 1v2 is a knockback Guard/Warrior keeps me on the ground while a range class peppers me from a distance (I don’t see how any bunker can counter this honestly).

3) I liked this spec so much I went broke buying the full exotic set. Now I feel “committed”. Has anyone tried a similar build in dungeons, or will this get me the boot?

Any other advice is welcome.

On another note, does it feel like a flaw in the design of the game that vitality and healing power counter each other? Healing should scale with vitality, because I feel like I am forced to do all toughness or I counteract my healing.

Edit: I use Power Shoes because I run a lot between points, and I prefer having the larger radius bombs over Speedy Kits.

Once the cat was out of the bag with Zenith skins, why would I pay money for a single use item.

The day they implement this is the day I finally purchase some armor.

It is also the day when they have to find other ways (higher prices, more “needed” items in the gem store and so on) to make profits in order to make up for the loss of profit from said change.

I have a feeling the percentage of repeat purchases on armor skin has been REALLY small (obviously I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt most people would buy $10 armor skins twice).

I was in the gem store about to buy armor, assuming it worked like Zenith items, but I did a quick Google search to be safe. So they lost my $10 already. They also lost any other $10 I would have spent on other characters to have a skin.

With no monthly fee I have had no issue putting some rl money into the gem store, but I refuse to put it into this current armor skin system until it is “fixed”.

Seriously, something has to be done about this. TWO times now in the past 5ish games I have done the opposing comp been 3 Necros, 1 Mesmer, and 1 Ranger.

Both game were beyond insane. It felt like there was nothing we could do. One sec you were on point, next there were 20+ pets overwhelming you while being chain feared.

Edit: Very next game…4 Necros. We won this one thanks to Skyhammer spam. It just feels like SOMETHING changed. There were never this many Necros before, now I see the opposing teams always have 1-2, if not more (funny thing…in all of these games, I have yet to actually team with one…go figure).

I just had a SoloQ with 3 necros, 1 mesmer, and 1 ranger. I have never seen so many pets in my life.

We almost won, but even if we won, it felt like losing trying to fight those classes all at once.

I am a level 80 engineer and had an account for roughly a year; been active about 4-6 months of that. My time has mostly been running champion trains, hot join pvp, and jumping puzzles (and leveling).

In my entire time of playing I have not run 1 dungeon. I have played 7 different MMOs (starting with DAOC), so I have plenty of experience in all typical roles (tank, heals, dps). My build I have in this game (and I went nearly broke buying full exotics for this build can be seen below):

Regardless, it is a quasi-bunker spec with OK damage using bombs and splash heals with each attack.

Some basic questions:

1) If I randomly join a dungeon should I announce that I am new to the dungeon (and dungeons in general), or just “follow the crowd”?

2) Will my support/defense oriented spec be welcome?

3) What are the typical time commitments for a dungeon?

4) Any other advice is welcome.

Whats funny is this patch did nothing for the way I play Engineer except nerf me. The only ability that changed for me was Elixir R…everything else stayed the same.

Non-HGH Condition Builds

So I have been practicing more with my build and there are two classes I am having trouble with:

1) Mesmer…by the time I spend the 5 seconds finding the real one I am at 25% HP. I honestly have no clue what to do here.

2) Necromancer…I can’t keep up with the storm of conditions and after the first 10 seconds of the fight I drop like a rock. This is with liberal usage of healing turret overload and tossing Elixir R. I feel like I spend so much time on the back of my heels just trying to live…and all the while they are healing themselves and have full HP at the end of the fight.

Other classes seem OK. A thief can catch me with my pants down, but between gear shield and regular shield I can usually take the burst and then if they don’t run away (which they usually do)…they are easy.

Non-HGH Condition Builds

Has anyone else used anything like this?

1) Without 409, Inertial Converter works really well for this. I can toss my Elixir R and cleanse conditions, then when I am about dead I can toss again to rez myself.

2) Medical Response adds some nice defense with multiple heals and condition removers.

3) I debated heavily on the shield vs pistol. I have decided to stick with the shield due to significant defense with a stun, or a nice ranged interrupt.

The damage is not as face melting as HGH (even though sometime with confuse stacks, bleeds, and the proc burn…the damage can be quite surprising), but it also has some nice survivability and utility with Elixir R and the Tool Kit. I haven’t had much chance to duel with it yet, but I feel like after I master it, it should be fairly good in a 1v1 situation.

Any thoughts? Or does anyone have another similar build they have tried with success?

I think you could manage fairly well with that. Using the shield can sometimes have the issue of lowering your damage output too much, but I think your gear and traits have enough offensive points to make up for that.

A lot of grenade focused builds will use the HGH trait from 30 points in alchemy. This will allow you to build a lot of might stacks by yourself, which will give you a significant damage boost. You should still be able to do a decent amount of damage, but other engineer builds will out damage the one you’ve linked. Those builds aren’t necessarily glass canons either. It makes HGH a very valuable trait for many situations, although it won’t make you a god or anything like that. This can really maximize the potential from the grenade kit, which is why it is often used in those builds.

If you are set on not using HGH, you might want to consider a few things:

1. Sigil of force will only affect direct damage. The pistol has fairly mediocre direct damage, although the grenade kit and toolkit can put out high direct damage. However, you’ve invested a lot in condition damage with your gear, so it might be better taking something along those lines. In particular, it’s a good idea to use something like a sigil of corruption, which will allow you to gain stat boosts. A lot of people will have a weapon with sigil of corruption in it, then swap it out for a different weapon with a different sigil once they have maximum corruption stacks. This allows them to gain the full benefit of sigil of corruption while also benefiting from a new sigil on their 3rd weapon. If you’re gearing up on a budget, then I would suggest trying to get a sigil of corruption and just running around with that, not worrying about swapping it out at max stacks. They are a bit expensive though, so if you don’t want to shell too much out, sigil of force is a sigil that can never do you any harm to bring around.

2. It looks like this build will be doing a lot of damage from the grenade kit and spend a lot of time in it. This means that your shield will not be out, meaning you will not benefit from the toughness bonus that reinforced shield gives you. You will still benefit from the cooldowns for when you use the skills, but you might want to play around with the cloaking device trait as an alternative. This can be very handy in fights, especially since it’s rather common for opponents to open up with an immobilize.

3. Consider taking 10 out of inventions and putting 10 more in alchemy. This will allow you to take traits like self-regulating defenses, protection injection, and backpack regenerator. These will likely work well in your build since, and all provide a level of defensive utility. You will lose the inventions 15 point minor trait, which is a good one, but it might be something you could try toying around with.

4. Also consider taking 10 out of inventions and put 10 in tools. This can give you the power wrench trait, which helps boost the toolkit. The toolkit is highly useful in WvW, and can be quite powerful, so it’s not a bad idea to give it a boost. You will also get the 15 point minor trait which will recharge your toolbelt skills. This can be very handy with elixir R since you can recharge your toss elixir R ability without waiting for the full cooldown. In fact, this actually allows you use toss elixir R twice in the same spot if you use it first before going under 25% health. Doing this can allow you to essentially insta-rez if you get downed in your elixir Rs, and can be a very strong tactic in 1v1 scenarios.

In any case, I think you’ll be able to mange just fine with this build. I’ve never used the runes of the engineer before because they’re a bit boring, but they’re not bad and probably not that expensive.

1) I only had Sigil of Force until I learned more about sigils. I believe if I put another weapon swap sigil in my main hand it will share an internal CD with my offhand? I wasn’t going to use the same weapon swap sigil in each, but wasn’t sure regardless.

2) I played around a lot with those bottom 3 trait lines. I had considered 30/0/15/10/15. I really like the medical response talent. I would like Backpack Regenerator, but I feel like the extra heal at 25% is probably more powerful.

3) I do like the cloaking device idea. I may have to try that. I knew about the 90 Toughness, but took the trait anyway due to the shield cooldowns.

I believe everyone is getting a trait overhaul at the end of the month. I will probably just tweak this one for now. It seems like most Engineers are HGH, and I like to be different.

I obviously can’t afford everything yet, but it is a mixture of Rabid and Carrion. I did buy 4/6 Whispering Karma pieces (which seem similar to these attributes).

My goal with this build is to be all-around. 1v1, PvE, WvW, etc.

Also you shold try Mesmer or Thief becase they are SO POWERFUL in PvP (Thats where Human comes in) Trust me you wont regret trying one of those out.
And yes ive played all Profesions so i know a bit, but ofc this is My Opinion only.

When I was reading about the game I had picked the Engineer before I even knew about how powerful any class was. I loved the theme (and I am an Engineer irl).

The second class I had picked was the Mesmer. The third was the Thief. When I saw how powerful they were I removed them from my list. I like to play classes with a high skill cap (and not ones viewed as super powerful). My alt I have started leveling is an Ele because I feel like they are similar to Engineers in having to manage many abilities.

Also, I noticed some question about my race…for my 5 slots I have planned to do one of each race…and my Engineer…is human. :0
