Bug1: Deflecting Shot is Unblockable. There is no mention of this on the skill anywhere. It cannot be Blocked, Reflected, Destroyed, etc.
Bug2: Symbol of Energy Pulses Vigor 4 times but the tooltip says 5 Pulses. The initial strike causes Burning but does not grant Vigor, followed by 4 Symbol Pulses.
Bug3: Hunter’s Ward causes an effect on foes that displays the icon for Bow of Truth and says Symbol of Energy on it, with no further information on what the effect does when highlighted.
Bug4: Hunter’s Ward has a hitbox issue with the initial Crippling strikes when the foes are standing on a different elevation than that of the targeted zone’s centre. The final strike hits and creates Barriers properly.
I take it over shelter already. It’s an amazing heal. People really should give it more credit.
My main concern with using it is that enemies still have to trigger it for you to get the main benefit. Doesn’t this create situations where opponents can deny you the bulk of your heal by pressuring you from range, or by pushing the fight away from the Trap via kiting/CC? The animation for setting Traps is pretty obvious (when they have a cast time, that is), and even after just a few days, I’ve learned to spot it and keep away from the place where the Trap goes down.
I do see how an AoE Blind/Daze combo on a 24 second cooldown could compete with Shelter, but I would feel a lot more comfortable using it if the bulk of the healing occurred when you set the Trap, rather than when it activated (like the Ranger’s Healing Spring). I’d settle for less overall healing if the heal was harder to disrupt.
I consider this is a L2P issue.
The player should learn to take advantage of this Heal’s strong points.
If your Trap did not activate, it is your own mistake, just like players already know Shelter can be completely interrupted if played wrong. (I have seen facepalm moments where bad players use Shelter and walk over Ring of Warding…)
Minions, Clones and Pets are easy bait to drop the Trap on if you are in need of a quick heal.
You can drop the Trap, wait for recharge, find a way to make it activate, and drop a second Trap right after it activates for 18k heal total. (This is of course a “when the stars align” type of combo, but good players can pull it off).
Autoloot does not work in WvW.
I am sure I have the option on. It works fine in PvE.
Please fix this. WvW is the place where Autoloot is the most needed so that we can concentrate on combat instead of spamming the AoE Loot button between every action.
Anet's worst promise:linear leveling curve
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241
Everyone is excited when they heard they announced this leveling system 3 years ago but what we got after three years later. A korea style leveling system, endless experience farming. Tiny experience from mobs and events with huge experience point for a level. If linear leveling curve is adopted, the time used should be the same leveling from 1-80s in gw2 and full mastery points in HOT. But the fact is double or triple times is needed.
The problem is not the amount of experience needed to get the masteries. The problem comes from the fact that when you keep earning experience, you hit diminishing returns, and that 18k experience you were supposed to get each time for that event slowly turns into 2k only experience.
This is what is causing the grind.
Dear Colin, ignore feed backs on grind
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241
Wait until he hits Diminishing Returns and only gets 2k Exp per event like me, then we’ll see if he likes his grind.
I tried doing events in Silverwastes and Orr.
Every event I do, I earn 1000 Exp less than the previous event due to some kind of Diminishing Return bug, even though I am switching zones and doing different events(in Orr) and not the same event repeatedly.
The first event gives me about 18000 exp, then 17000, then lower and lower each event. I usually leave the zone by the time it hits 6000 exp per event or less.
I dont know how I will max out my Masteries compared to other players. They dont seem to have the same issue, a few even told me “never encountered this issue before”.
Patch did not remove this issue. The game was patched about 3-4 times in the past few days, I am still getting this.
Experience Boosters dont really work because I keep getting less and less experience per event, rendering them pointless.

I am now contemplating about 8 million more exp to complete my first Mastery line of Pact Commander, and I dont see how I will reach this amount anytime soon because of this Diminishing Return thing. I even agreed to grind this amount of experience, it did not seem that big for me, but once I hit this impossible rock, I dont think I can proceed further.
So even players who agree to grind cannot proceed further? Tell me who can then.
When you use Hunter’s Ward on a foe, a “Spirit Bow” icon appears in their effect list and says “Symbol of Energy” when you highlight it.
I think this should be a Hunter’s Ward icon saying Hunter’s Ward when you highlight it?
The “red-cracking-earth” skill animation looks too similar color as “red-enemy-aoe” circles. Revenant ALLIES are making me reflex dodge when they use the skill because it comes out as red lines.
I am contemplating the 19million exp to get a certain mastery line. I was getting 18k exp per event. Now i got hit by diminishing returns and only earning 2k exp per event.
I was testing my Dragonhunter in PvP and Trueshot does way less Damage than before, I think or am I just imagining? I think in the last BWE it did way over 2000 base Damage on Marouder, while now it is 1911. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Should I prepare an all nighter for a midnight release?
Should I wake up early for a 6am release?
Should I take off work for a 9am release?
Should I cancel my Friday night out for a 7pm release?
Should I be disappointed that it actually releases 11:59pm on the 23rd?
Some players like your game and want to play it as soon as it releases.
We would appreciate if you could make it convenient for us to plan for that day ahead, by telling us what time(in timezone) we can expect HoT to be out.
Hype train is here, so excited.
It would also be greatly appreciated if we could download most of the files a few days ahead, so that everyone can go in and play on the 23rd, and not be stuck on 1KB/sec because everyone else is downloading the client too just like last patch.
I am guessing this has to do with Free to Play.
They do not want to make things easy to obtain for F2P players.
F2P players probably wont have access to the new FotM rewards introduced in HoT(I think they already said that those will only be available to HoT players), and definitely wont have access to Raids.
F2P players have access to Dungeons, so they want to limit the gold income from there.
F2P players also have access to Silverwastes, but their access to TP is limited, so they cant just sell the Exotics they get on the TP. So they could salvage it to Ectos, but then the blogpost also says they are making changes to Salvaging, I think this confirms their intent.
Then there is also the T6 mats that F2P players could get and sell on TP, but if you read the Precursors and Legendary Journey part of the blogpost, it seems to be referring to said T6 mats.
Ascended Trinkets are already a pain to obtain when you do not have Laurels from Daily Login rewards and your only source of Laurels is from AP chests, on top of which access to TP is very limited. Same for Ascended Weapon/Armor crafting, because the Recipes also cost Laurel to purchase and learn.
Does anyone else thinks this makes sense? Or is my tinfoil hat a little too pointy?
I like these changes especially hunter’s verdict. I thought that was a great idea and kept promoting it. (I forget who I first saw suggest it)
but I have a question about the fragments of faith change being a stun breaker now…
I had seen people asking for this to be added to traps and now its on one, but I don’t see this being very useful. So you would need to lay down a trap and then hope the enemy happens to step on it after they’ve CC’d you, but before it wears off on its own? Am I missing something? it seems like there’d be very few instances where this would actually save you..
same with the healing trap. you have to lay down the trap and hope the enemy steps on it right when you need to heal. not too soon, not too late…
overall great changes. I’ve been excited to play the DH at release, but now even more so.
Fragments of Faith is instant and now a stunbreaker. What would happen is if you are Stunned, you press Fragments of Faith just like you would press Contemplation of Purity, and it will break Stun for you. It will also place a FoF Trap at your feet, which does not activate unless there is a foe that triggers it. Once it triggers, you gain 3 stacks of Stability for 5s, the foe is damaged and Crippled, and Fragments drop on the ground.
Now, I am not sure(we need clarification from Karl) how the Trap provides the new boons.
Do you need to be standing in the Trap to get the boons once a foe triggers it?
If yes, Do your allies also get boons if they are standing on the Trap or just you?
If no, Do you get the boons no matter where you are as long as a foe triggers the Trap?
Does Hunter’s Determination break stun as well? What is the cooldown on it?
Still there is no Insta 20sec cd spell that kills every clone in 1200 range.
There are skills that kill every clones at range, namely Toss Elixir X and Signet of Humility.
They are not instant cast, nor 20s cooldown, but their effects is much more powerful than just Reveal.
Given that Reveal only disables 1 skill(Sneak Attack) from a Thief’s bar, while Moa completely disables someone’s whole skillbar, removes all clones/minions and also removes Juggernaut/DS/Tornado forms,
I think it is well balanced that a skill that only disables 1 skill(Sneak Attack) from 1 profession’s skillbar only has 20s cooldown when compared to Moa Elites that disable whole skill bars from any profession have 120/180s cooldowns.
It is also warranted for balance that a small effect such as Reveal be dispensable through AoE by an Elite skill, while Moa require targeting also by an Elite skill.
Btw, Detection Pulse has 3/4 cast and is not insta.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
I dont get how Stealth is a Thief class mechanic. Mesmer, Engi, Ranger also have Stealth. That’s half of the core professions that have Stealth. You can also get Stealth through 2 Rune sets.
@ronpierce That’s a bad comparison between thief and necro, stealth attacks are a thief mechanic and stealth is part of thief. Bad comparisons with ele, mesmer, necro. Do you want a good example?
For the next 6 sec you are unable to gain LF,swap attunements(tempest lol),unable to create illusions, unable to gain adrenaline etc. The only reason more reveal is because they are adding stealth to other classes and more stealth to WvW they are the ones that made PU about stealth instead of boons. It’s all excuses just to nerf thief while nerfing it.
And that’s a bad comparison.
You cannot compare Stealth to Life Force or Adrenaline.
You can compare Initiative to Life Force and Adrenaline.
There isnt any counter skill out there which says “you cannot gain initiative for x seconds”.
Then there should not be one for Life Force or Adrenaline.
You cannot compare Stealth to swapping Attunements either.
You can compare Steal to Attunements.
There isnt any counter skill out there which says “you cannot use your F1 button to Steal for x seconds”.
Then there should not be one for Attunement swap.
You can compare Steal to a boon or other effect.
There are skills out there which say “steal/rip boons from foe”.
There are skills out there which say “Reveal foe”.
Most Guardian builds use boons as sustain. Take away those boons and the Guardian is dead. That’s counter play.
Most Thief builds use Stealth as sustain. Take away Stealth and the Thief is dead. That’s counter play.
There are Guardian builds that use other methods of sustain such as Altruistic Healing or Monk’s Focus instead.
There are Thief builds that use other methods of sustain such as Teleports and Dodge instead.
This is like you only know how to play Rock, then when other people play Paper, you complain. Well “learn to play” Scissors.
You can compare Sneak Attack to Shatters.
Shatters are powerful skills which are available while you have Clones.
Sneak Attack is a powerful skill which is available while in Stealth.
Mesmer Shatters lose their effectiveness if you kill their clones.
Thief Sneak Attacks lose their effectiveness if you Reveal them.
Those are fair 1 for 1 mechanic comparisons.

1. Wings of Resolve
The distance traveled when using Wings of Resolve seemed to be affected by Crippled/Chilled.
2. Absolute Resolution
“Virtue of Resolve’s passive effect is stronger.” portion of the Virtue did not seem to work properly.
3. Courageous Return
Shield of Courage did not seem to recharge properly with this trait active.
Tell every little cowardly Shadow’s Refuge Stealth Thief out there this:
Prepare to die!
1. Guardians originally has the Greatsword Binding Blade which can track a Thief even when they are Stealthed, followed by pull them if it lands. If played correctly, you could even pull the Thief out of Shadow’s Refuge and Reveal them.
2. Now Dragonhunter is given the Longbow Hunter’s Ward, which shows you the location of the Stealthed Thief because the barrier forms around them even if they are Stealthed. If they use Shadow’s Refuge, you use Hunter’s Ward right on top of it. If they do not move out of Shadow’s Refuge, they get caged in.
3. Dragonhunter also gets the Trap Light’s Judgment, which lands that sweet Reveal. If they Shadow’s Refuge, you just run in there and drop Light’s Judgment, which now only has 30s cooldown and can be traited even more.
4. Finally, the newest addition to the annihilation of Stealth Thieves is our brand new Hunter’s Verdict. You still need to land that Spear of Justice first, but if you landed it before they Stealthed, you get an easy free 1200 range Scorpion Wire style pull to bring them to your feet just like Binding Blade.
And all of these can be used together. You can pull someone into the range of Hunter’s Ward with Hunter’s Verdict. You can pull someone into Light’s Judgment too. You can drop Light’s Judgment right on top of where a Hunter’s Ward barrier has formed too.
Those are great changes, my Greatsword/Hammer + Traps build is happy.
Pure of Sight now gives an overall damage boost of 7%, which is equivalent to Fiery Wrath without the Burning requirement, and even stacks on top of Fiery Wrath.
This is great, and it goes further to add 5% extra damage to faraway enemies. Even if you ignore this portion and go full melee(which I am going to), it is still a worthy trait.
Not to mention Trap damage is now always boosted.
Greatsword/Hammer + Traps build:
Shelter, Fragments of Faith, Procession of Blades, X, Dragon’s Maw
(X can be another Trap, Contemplation of Purity, Stand Your Ground, Retreat)
Zeal: Fiery Wrath, Binding Jeopardy/Zealous Blade, Shattered Aegis/Symbolic Avenger.
Virtues: Unscathed Contender, Absolute Resolution, Indomitable Courage.
DH: Soaring Devastation, Zealot’s Aggression, (Pure of Sight), Hunter’s Fortification.
(Traits can vary. Dulled Senses, Piercing Light, Hunter’s Determination are also good options)
Greatsword5 or Spear of Justice to pull foes into the Trap.
Hammer3 or Soaring Devastation to Immobilize foes if needed.
Zealot’s Aggression to keep foes from walking far away.
Hammer5 to keep foes inside the Traps area.
Symbolic Power feeds Fiery Wrath. Fragments of Faith feeds Unscathed Contender. Zealot’s Aggression feeds itself. On top of this, you now have boons from Traps, Dragon’s Maw provides 10 stacks of Might, Procession of Blades provides Fury.
Damage: checked (listed above)
Control: checked (listed above)
Stunbreaker: checked (Fragments of Faith)
Stability: checked (Indomitable Courage, Fragments of Faith)
Condition removal: checked (Absolute Resolution, Hunter’s Fortification)
Sustain: checked (Shelter, Wings of Resolve)
Dragonhunter can make a decent PvE Speed Clear, specially with the new boons from the Traps. (could even take Longbow, but would be less effective than Hammer in PvE)
Not to mention the effectiveness of Traps in WvW, this was already the case prior to Traps being buffed, or Traps now giving out boons like candy. (Longbow instead of Hammer for WvW)
Dragonhunter Traps will still be a gimmick in PvP.
I love how guardians have been begging for a good ranged option for years, most of them being suggesting longbow, and now that we get it people complain it doesn’t fit the class being so melee oriented.
It’s just baffling.
We do like the Longbow. We also like the new trait: Zealot’s Aggression.
Among the things Guardians have been asking for:
1. A viable ranged weapon other than Scepter.
2. Access to some soft-cc such as Cripple/Chill.
3. A utility skill or trait that provides 25% increased movement speed.
Dragonhunter provides a great ranged weapon, the Longbow.
Dragonhunter also provides access to Cripple with the Longbow and ZA.
This is the “good” part of the Dragonhunter.
However, the problem lies with all the trash mandatory stuff you are forced to carry in every build, and some of those end up as not suitable(even deadweights) in many builds.
I want to make a build with the Longbow
To carry a Longbow, I must carry the new Virtues and Defender’s Dogma/Pure of Sight. In this case, I wanted just the Longbow, I dont want the new Virtues, I dont want Defender’s Dogma.
I want to make a melee build with Traps
To carry Traps, you must carry the new Virtues and Defender’s Dogma/Pure of Sight,
Example: I want to make a Greatsword/Hammer + Traps build.
This build will have access to Cripple thanks to ZA, and Greatsword5 to pull foes into my Traps, and Hammer5 to keep them into my Traps.
To do this, I am forced to equip the 3 new Virtues, and the 2 new minor traits. Defender’s Dogma and Pure of Sight.
The 3 Virtues are passable, with Soaring Devastation I can Immobilize and keep them into the Traps.
Pure of Sight is not okay. Pure of Sight becomes a trait that says only Greatsword5(30s) and Hammer3(15s) gain 10% extra damage. That means every 30s(or 15s), an attack(whose damage is equivalent to one auto-attack) is boosted by 10%, provided I am beyond 360u from my foe. Which means it is a trait that does nothing. The Traps could have their damage boosted by Pure of Sight, but that would mean I have to walk away from my Traps, which means I lose the melee DPS my Greatsword/Hammer would provide in exchange for 10% extra Trap damage, but that completely defeats the purpose of the build…
I want to make a melee build around the new Virtues
I am forced to carry Pure of Sight.
I want to make a melee build around Zealot’s Aggression
I am forced to carry the new Virtues and Pure of Sight.
As you can see,
I cannot take just the Longbow without new Virtues without being forced to completely renounce to my current class mechanic.
I also cannot take Zealot’s Aggression without Pure of Sight, therefore all melee builds end up with a dead trait.
Proposed Possible Solutions
1. F4 button swaps your new Virtues into the old Virtues and vice versa. F4 has a 120s cooldown so that people dont just keep swapping over and get double Virtues. Renewed Focus does NOT recharge F4 as it is not a 4th Virtue.
2. F4 is now a new Virtue that provides passive 25% increased movement speed and whatever else on activation.
3. Pure of Sight and Zealot’s Aggression are swapped.
4. Pure of Sight is merged into Heavy Light. Zealot’s Aggression goes into the Minor slot, 25% increased movement speed trait as the new Major trait(or the new 25% increased movement speed trait moves into Minor).
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
DRAGONHUNTER
There is still too much “pigeonholed-into-range-or-accept-carrying-a-dead-trait” due to the Pure of Sight trait. Traps still need improvements.
Pure of Sight
Pure of Sight should swap place with Zealot’s Aggression as Minor trait.
Pure of Sight is close to useless with any weapon other than Longbow/Scepter/Torch.
Just like Zeal line, we dont need more Minor traits that do not work for over half of our weaponsets/builds.
On the other hand, Zealot’s Aggression fits in every build.
Purification
Initial Heal amount should be the large heal.
This skill could use some improvement, such as removing conditions from you when the trap triggers(light returns to you), or even transferring conditions from you to the foe that triggered the trap.
Other possible effects such as removing boons from the foe stepping on it, or even stealing boons from the foe stepping on it.
Light’s Judgment
Reduce the amount of Vulnerability it gives, but make it pulse Blind.
It will then have synergy with Binding Jeopardy.
Test of Faith
Could be made into something much better.
This could be made to remove boons from foes standing on it per pulse(similar to Mesmer’s Null Field).
Or possibly be a Ring of Warding.
Procession of Blades
Remember the “Trap hits bleed enemies” trait that once existed?
Include it just for this trap and it’s ready to go.
CORE
There are still things many players would like changed, specially in terms of swapping trait locations.
Zeal Minor traits
Half of our weapons do not have Symbols(Scepter, Sword, Torch, Shield, Focus, Spear, Trident).
Symbol traits should not be Minor traits.
Symbolic Avenger
Change it to: You deal more damage to enemies (while) standing in your symbols.
The extra damage is now under your control, a grandmaster trait should do this much.
Radiant Retaliation
Change it to: Retaliation ticks twice while you are under 50% health.
Glacial Heart
Swap place with Retaliatory Subconscious.
This way Glacial Heart will see play because it does not compete with Absolute Resolution.
In addition, Retaliatory Subconscious(another source of Aegis) can now combine with Unscathed Contender.
Sanctuary
Reduce recharge to 90 seconds(72 when traited).
Save Yourselves
Could use the addition of at least 2 seconds of Resistance so that it does not become an instant-self-destruct button in WvW.
im not hearing as much bashing, and actually hearing praise. Its crazy how many DH im seeing in VB, and im the only berserker ive seen all day…
You will see DH.
Because every Guardian has now made a Ranger, and every Ranger has now made a Guardian.
Here’s more information about the bug:
Character that had logged in prior to patch do not get a new daily or login reward.
Characters that logged in after patch reset the daily and get a new login reward.
If you log in on character1 then do daily, then log in on character2, you get to complete another daily(it resets again). You then complete that daily and log in on character3, you re-reset it. And so on.
If you log in on character1-5 without completing the daily, then do that daily, you will not get any extra dailies by swapping to character1-5 again(because it counts as you skipped the daily).
You do get login rewards for all of them though.
And yes, you do get Spirit Shards and 10AP each time you re-complete the daily.
I am not testing this any further because this is an exploit.
Sanctuary: Lower cooldown to 90. Improved heal to 500 per tick.
Cooldown is too high for such a small effect. Heal is too small for such cooldown.
Save Yourselves: Add Resistance to the list of Boons.
So that it does not act as self-destruct button anymore.
Fiery Wrath: New Minor in Zeal.
Binding Jeopardy: New Minor in Zeal.
Now you can take Zeal with even non-Symbol weapons.
Symbolic Avenger: You deal more damage to enemies (when) standing in your symbols.
The extra damage is now under your control. For a Grandmaster trait, it should be as much.
Supreme Justice: New Major Adept. <swapped with Retaliatory Subconscious>
Retaliatory Subconscious: New Major Master. <swapped with Supreme Justice>
Now Retaliatory Subconscious(one more source of Aegis) works with Unscathed Contender.
Let me make this clear:
Dragonhunter traitline is optional to the Guardian.
Dragonhunter traitline is mandatory to the Dragonhunter.
Defender’s Dogma and Pure of Sight are also mandatory to the Dragonhunter.
Dragonhunter’s new Virtues are also mandatory to the Dragonhunter.
Longbow is optional to the Dragonhunter.
Traps are optional to the Dragonhunter.
Therefore, the biggest issue at hand are the bad Minor traits of the Dragonhunter.
Traps come in second as they are optional. Once the Minor traits are decent, even if you still do not like Traps, you can unslot them, just like we have all unslotted Spirit Weapons. I am not saying Traps do not need a fix, I am saying the Minor traits should be priority. Traps also need a fix, as badly as Spirit Weapons do.
Symbolic Power, Renewed Justice, Courageous Return, Purity of Body or Inspired Virtue.
We are being asked to renounce to one of those. We would like something as useful as them in return, not a badly designed ineffective trait like Pure of Sight which ends up as a dead trait in more builds than not.
The other big issue is the non-interaction of the new Virtues with the core Guardian traitlines.
Justice is Blind, Renewed Justice, Wrath of Justice, Courageous Return, Purity of Body, Inspired Virtue, Virtue of Retribution, Absolute Resolution, Supreme Justice, Power of the Virtuous, Battle Presence, Idomitable Courage, Permeating Wrath.
All these traits must be made to work one way or the other with the Dragonhunter Virtues.
I never was a big fan of tomes but I really find astonishing how designers couldn’t find a betterr way to improve and make them competitive than a complete rework into much more simpler skills …
and then it’s perfectly fine for some other profession to get an improved version of our old tome courage, with an arguably better skillset, without the insane CD, without the huge cast time just to get into the skillset, without locking out regular utilities … all of this as an additional mechanic on top of what the core class could already offer,
I’m OK with rangers getting some love, they absolutely deserved it, but all this celestial form thing looks ridiculous.
I think i need to correct you on some points:
It’s our dev that was not able to improve Tomes, it’s our dev that is not able to improve Shield, and it’s also our dev that designed the worst espec, the Dragonhunter.
The other devs showed they were capable of making a Shield correctly(see Roy’s Revenant Shield), of making something similar to Tomes work(see Irenio’s Ranger Avatar) and give the espec some amazing synergy with their core profession(see Robert’s Chronomancer).
The worst part is, even if the dev gives Dragonhunter everything we’ve been asking for in the Dragonhunter feedback thread, that includes:
1. Ground-targeted Traps
2. 25% increased movement speed trait
3. Traps each drop a different Symbol when activated
4. Traps drop a Field or Trap is a Finisher when activated
5. Instant cast Dragonhunter Virtues
It is still not on par with other professions’ Elite specs such as Druid.
The main reason why Dragonhunter sucks is because
1. Minor traits
2. Traps
Comparison of Minor traits:
Herald
Improved Endurance Regeneration (while using class mechanic)
Improved Boon Duration (global bonus that works at all times)
Work with every Build, synergy with Runes that provide boons, stacks with Runes that provide Boon Duration.
Chronomancer
Improved recharge(Alacrity) (while using class mechanic)
Improved Movement Speed (global bonus that works at all times)
Reduced Movement-impairing conditions
Work with every build, stacks with Runes that reduce Condition Duration on you.
Reaper
Extra Chill on Fear (similar to an extra sigil)
Improved Chill Duration (equivalent to an extra sigil)
Reduced damage from Chilled foes
Work with every build, synergy with Sigils/Runes that cause Fear, stacks with Sigils/Runes that increase Chill Duration.
Berserker
Instant Adrenaline gain once (Not that great of a trait)
Improved Attack Speed (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build.
Tempest
Swiftness on Overload (while using class mechanic)
Protection on Overload (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build. Same action provides both boons.
Daredevil
Health gain on successful Dodge (while using class mechanic)
Endurance gain on Steal (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build. Synergy with Runes that provide Boons on Dodge.
Scrapper
Boon on Revive/Finish (while using class mechanic)
Improved Stun Duration on foes (equivalent to an extra sigil)
Reduced Stun Duration on you (equivalent to part of a Rune’s effect)
Work with every build. Stacks with said Sigil and Rune.
Druid
Self-healing when Healing an ally (while using class mechanic)
Stacking improved outgoing heal (equivalent to an extra sigil)
Work with every build. Stacks with sigils that improves Healing Power or outgoing healing and sigils that heal you and/or allies.
Dragonhunter
Defender’s Dogma
Blocking an attack causes justice to reach its maximum charge.
1. Does NOT work anymore the moment you press F1.
2. Has no effect if you were already at full stacks of Justice. (20% of the time)
3. Inflicts only 1 stack of Burning for only 1 second to only 1 foe on your next attack.
Pure of Sight
Deal (10%) bonus damage to enemies beyond the range threshold (360u).
1. Among the damaging skills, does NOT work with over 60% of them because said skills can never reach beyond that range threshold in the first place.
2. Only works on at most 1 skill on each of our Melee weapons, said skill having 15-30s cooldown on said weapons, and whose damage value is only worth 1 auto-attack. Equivalent to a trait saying “improve your 15th/30th auto-attack’s damage by 10%”, nobody in their right mind would pick such a trait. Therefore, it’s a dead trait on a melee weapon.
3. You still have to fulfill the range threshold requirement on the skills it even works with. (Which means it does not always work on skills it even affects)
There are more builds where this does NOT work than builds where this works.
No other profession is being forced into using their new Elite spec weapon other than Guardian(because of this trait).
As you can see(if you are Pure of Sight), Dragonhunter’s Minor traits are a bad joke.
I wont type the presentation on Traps, i’ll let someone else explain why they are bad.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
Female Human Elementalist, because there just arent enough of them around.
Asuran Revenant, because Revenant is not out yet.
On a more serious note,
Male Norn Engineer is currently the rarest i think.
My take on Traps: I dont think Traps should be Fields or Finishers. Traps are hard to control as is because they are enemy triggered. You would need to run back into the Trap to drop a Field in the case where Traps are Finishers, or to use a Finisher there in the case the Trap is a Field just to combo. I dont find it convenient.
Traps do need more powerful effect though.
Traps Changes
Purification
Initial Heal and Trap Heal amounts swapped.
Initial Heal: 6,458
Trap Heal: 1,499
Heal yourself and imbue your light into a trap. Enemies that trigger this trap are damaged and lose a boon. The light returns to you for a second heal and you lose a condition.
Fragments of Faith
No change. Only satisfactory trap so far.
Test of Faith
Creates a barrier(Ring of Warding) when triggered.
Procession of Blades
Each hit bleeds enemies. This is the only Trap that the original trap trait worked well with. Make this effect baseline only into this Trap instead.
Light’s Judgement
Add Blind here on top of Revealed. Pulsing Blind, just like Thief’s Black Powder.
Dragon’s Maw
Inflict 5 stacks of Bleeding and Vulnerability when the Barrier ends.

The reason why you are seeing things that way is because Dragonhunter traitline is trash. It’s really that simple.
You can check on Mesmer, Engineer, Reaper and even Daredevil, they will not even think twice about(and be more than happy to) throwing away one of their core traitline for their new Espec because what is being offered is so much better. You will not even see that kind of complaint(traitline should not be tied to Espec) from them because this is not a problem that concerns them.
If Dragonhunter had Minor traits that said
+25% Movement speed, (like Chronomancer)
or Alacrity when using a Virtue, (like Chronomancer)
or +20% Burning Duration and -10% damage from Burning foes, (like Reaper)
or Apply Cripple when you CC, (like Reaper)
or Swiftness on Virtue, (like Tempest)
I assure you, people wouldnt even bat an eye on throwing out Radiance, Valor or even Virtues to take it.
But instead, we end up with Dont-Press-F1 Dogma and No-Melee-Weapon of Sight.
And apparently, giving us Zealot’s Aggression as Minor trait would be considered too OP. Every 5th attack, provided you did not use F1, causing 1s of Crippled on 1 foe is so OP compared to a flat out increase in Movement Speed, Condition Duration or Stun Duration like other professions, right?
Soon you will see “Oh-This-is-Superspeed-Weeee!” Scrapper opponents running away from you in PvP, you wont even be able to catch up to them, and your arrows are already saying “Out of Range”.
Then the Scrapper on your team will say
“I just ran all the way to cap Far, why arent you capping Home yet?”
Then you will reply
“But I’m still running towards Home…”

Dear ArenaNet,
My friend said she will quit GW2 because her game is bugged, and that bug is driving her insane. I could not replicate the bug myself, or perhaps she did not describe it correctly, or there is something else that is wrong somewhere.
She describes the bug as follows:
“In every town, at every bank, even the bank in Heart of the Mist, a random sound of wok wok wok wok followed by something that sounds like a laughing monkey goes on and on intermittently.”
Apparently this sound is very annoying and driving her insane, and she would rather stop playing and move on, at least until this bug is fixed. It seems the issue is only on her account, she has tried re-installing, repair, anti-malware of all sorts to no avail. Like said above, I could not replicate this bug, it seems the bug is on her account only.
Could you please help find out what is causing this? I dont know if this belongs to the bug section or not, because I could not replicate the bug on my GW2 account.
Thank you.
Skills and Elite Specs; Arbitrary Limitation?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241
To be honest, things are actually the other way around, many players are taking the new Elite Spec, but not the new Weapon or Utilities. Many Thieves are looking forward to taking Daredevil without equipping a Staff and Warriors are going Berserker without Torch.
All the Elite Specs actually have very useful Minor traits(except Dragonhunter) and it would be worth it to replace a former core traitline with them. The Major traits too are close to(sometimes better than) the Major traits from core traitlines in terms of effectiveness.
Which is why you wont see too many complaints about things being the way they are, because it seems natural for many people to just take the new Elite spec and replace their least useful traitline.
Thief can now:
Steal a Necro’s Shroud, making them unable to go into Death/Reaper’s Shroud.
Steal an Engineer’s Toolbelt, making them unable to use Toolbelt skills.
Steal a Thief’s Stolen Item, making them unable to use said item. You gain said Item.
Steal a Ranger’s Pet, making them unable to use Pet commands/skills. You must use Steal on the Pet for this to happen.
Note: You cant Steal Virtues, Shatters, Adrenaline, Energy, or Attunements as those are not really “physical”.
Minor traits of other Elite specs:
Herald
Improved Endurance Regeneration (while using class mechanic)
Improved Boon Duration (global bonus that works at all times)
Work with every Build, synergy with Runes that provide boons, stacks with Runes that provide Boon Duration.
Chronomancer
Improved recharge(Alacrity) (while using class mechanic)
Improved Movement Speed (global bonus that works at all times)
Reduced Movement-impairing conditions
Work with every build, stacks with Runes that reduce Condition Duration on you.
Reaper
Extra Chill on Fear (similar to an extra sigil)
Improved Chill Duration (equivalent to an extra sigil)
Reduced damage from Chilled foes
Work with every build, synergy with Sigils/Runes that cause Fear, stacks with Sigils/Runes that increase Chill Duration.
Berserker
Instant Adrenaline gain once (Not that great of a trait)
Improved Attack Speed (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build.
Tempest
Swiftness on Overload (while using class mechanic)
Protection on Overload (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build. Same action provides both boons.
Daredevil
Health gain on successful Dodge (while using class mechanic)
Endurance gain on Steal (while using class mechanic)
Work with every build. Synergy with Runes that provide Boons on Dodge.
Scrapper
Boon on Revive/Finish (while using class mechanic)
Improved Stun Duration on foes (equivalent to an extra sigil)
Reduced Stun Duration on you (equivalent to part of a Rune’s effect)
Work with every build. Stacks with said Sigil and Rune.
Dragonhunter
Defender’s Dogma
1. Does NOT work anymore the moment you press F1.
2. Has no effect if you were already at full stacks of Justice. (20% of the time)
3. Inflicts only 1 stack of Burning for only 1 second to only 1 foe on your next attack.
Pure of Sight
3. You still have to fulfill the range threshold requirement on the skills it even works with. (Which means it does not always work on skills it even affects)
There are more builds where this does NOT work than builds where this works.
If you still do not see why so many people here find Dragonhunter Minor traits lackluster(even useless) you must really not be Pure of Sight.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
Happened to me too during Pvp. I was Stunned, i used a stunbreaker, there was no stun icon anymore and my skills were not disabled anymore, but I could not use any skills at all. The thief kept hitting me for 5s without me being able to do anything(even more). The thief Dazed me somehow, then I could move again.
Guardian here too. I think it has to do with being Immobilized/Stunned while in midair. I think dodging backwards does something to place you in mid-air.
Dragonhunter is almost fixed! I like the changes so far.
The only problems are Pure of Sight and Defender’s Dogma.
This is important: Pure of Sight needs to go.
1. This trait is very situational, only about 37% of our damaging skills even work with it, on top of which we have to fulfill the 360 range requirement, and the effect is very dull and unrewarding.
2. No other profession has a Minor trait that practically forces it to use their new Elite-Spec weapon.
3. Chronomancer is getting +25% Movement Speed, Herald is getting +15% Boon Duration, Berserker is getting +15% Attack Speed while Berserking. Even Daredevil is getting extra endurance when Stealing.
Those are really cool traits and fit in every weaponset and every build they pick.
There are more builds where Pure of Sight does NOT fit than there are builds where it fits.
Change Pure of Sight be a strong effect such as removing a movement-impairing condition when we strike a foe at 360 range. Dragonhunter needs to remain mobile, we are already low on condition removal if we take Traps. This would be welcome.
Or
Defender’s Dogma would be okay if we got something like the new Zealot’s Aggression as the other Minor trait instead of Pure of Sight to complement it.
So what we would get is a Minor(Defender’s Dogma) that would give us Passive Justice on Block, then the other Minor(Zealot’s Aggression) that Cripples on Passive Justice. This would make Dragonhunter line somewhat specialize in “Passive Justice”, just like
Radiance = Justice
Valor = Courage
Honor = Resolve
Virtues = All Virtues
Dragonhunter = Passive Justice
I wouldnt mind if they removed the increased damage to Crippled foes portion of Zealot’s Aggression to balance it as a Minor trait. That part could become another trait or merged with another Major trait.
The following changes is the bare minimum Dragonhunter needs to be Passable.
Passable does not mean Good.
Good means things like ground-targeted Traps and +25% movement speed.
Spear of Justice
1/4 cast, faster projectile.
Wings of Resolve
Absolute Resolution must work before the Leap.
Shield of Courage
Revamped.
All Previous traits that affect Virtues
Must also work in some way or another with the Dragonhunter Virtues, preferable to the Dragonhunter’s advantage(unlike Shield of Courage and Idomitable Courage). This includes Inspired Virtues, Permeating Wrath, Supreme Justice, Wrath of Justice etc.
Longbow
All the target skills should make your character turn when using them if the opponent is behind you(similar Scepter auto-attack). All the ground-targeted skills should be shootable backwards(similar to Warrior Longbow).
Purification
Initial Heal and Trap Heal amounts switched.
Test of Faith
Becomes Ring of Warding – utility edition.
Pure of Sight
Swapped with Zealot’s Aggression as Minor trait.
Remember, this is bare minimum.
Past that bare minimum point, I can actually make a playable build with Dragonhunter, although not a good one.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
You conveniently forgot other skills like Zealot’s Defense and Zealot’s Embrace. Even ignoring those, 37% is plenty large. Plenty of traits won’t involve that many skills.
Given the weapon sets the skill is on, Zealot’s Embrace, Zealot’s Defense and Binding Blade should not count.
If there was a trait that said “increase damage by 10% flatout for just 1 skill that has 15-30s cooldown on your bar”, nobody would take it. Not to mention the condition of 360u range.
Same thing for “increase damage by 10% flatout on Staff”, nobody would take that trait.
We are being forced to take a trait that does not work with the majority of our skills and traits, whose effect is nothing impressive(actually rather dull) and has a condition for it to even work(360u range conditional).
That means less than 50% of our skills work with that trait even if you were to remain at 360u range 100% of the time. Given the melee nature of our profession, it would be generous to say that this trait would work as much as 50% of the time with the skills/traits it even affects…
Even if this trait were made into a Major trait(we are given the choice to take it or not) many players would not take it. That says loads about the effectiveness of this trait.
Pure of Sight should get a powerful effect at the very least.
Immunity to Blind would fit the name.
Even Immunity to Blind when striking a foe at greater than 360u would be a start.
Or following the trend of Pure of Voice,
Losing a movement impairing condition when striking a foe at greater than 360u wouldnt be bad either, it would ensure the Dragonhunter always remains mobile, even without a +25% movement speed.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be changed or the damage shouldn’t increased some, i’m just saying that this minor trait is not as important a the other 9 major traits in DH.
It is more important because you are forced to take it. In the case of the Major traits, if one one them sucks, you still have 2 other options. This one sucks and has no option.

I think some of you need to look up what redundant means
Definition – redundant
not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.
Fits the definition.
I’ll break it down in more details for you.
There are 51 damaging Guardian/Dragonhunter skills and traits(excluding Underwater stuff).
Breakdown of skills that work with Pure of Sight:
Staff#1-3, Scepter#1-3, Torch#1-2, Focus#4, Shield#4, Longbow#1-5, Bane Signet, Signet of Wrath, Spear of Justice, Wrath of Justice(trait).
There are only 19 skills that work for sure with Pure of Sight!
Pure of Sight works with only 37% of our skills/traits that inflict damage!
And that’s only including skills/traits that actually deal damage!
And on top of that you still need to be at 360 range to gain that Pure of Sight bonus!
(I did not include Traps because they are cast in melee range, and if activated instantly by an enemy, do not work with Pure of Sight. Skills that work only when the stars align should not count towards “works for sure with Pure of Sight”)
Not to mention that 2 of those skills have terrible damage(Scepter#3 and Signet of Wrath), along with trying to do damage with a Staff.
If there was ever a trait that said “Staff damage is increased by 10%”, nobody would even pick it(let alone imposing a condition of >360 range on it), you get the point.
In addition, there are no other classes in this game that have their Elite spec Minor traits forcing them into their Elite spec weapon in any way.
Mesmer gets +25% movement speed increase
Revenant gets +15% boon duration
Warrior gets +15% attack speed increase
They are all getting Generic things that work with every weapon set, every traitline, every build they choose.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
It’s not particularly redundant. There are plenty of other ways to deal damage past 600u. For an elite spec that’s thematically able to fight at ranged it certainly makes sense.
I understand some people don’t like it. Defenders Dogma is kind of weird also, but with some of the recent changes to skills it’s much more useful. It’s existence really isn’t a huge deal.
Actually there arent. I have done a full analysis, even at 360 range.
I’m going to quote myself. This is a list of Guardian/Dragonhunter skills that deal damage. Anything that does not deal damage is excluded(Shouts), however know that none of those work with Pure of Sight too. Therefore the number of skills/traits that dont work with Pure of Sight is much bigger.
List of damaging Weapons/Utilities/Skills/Traits that do not work with Pure of Sight
Greatsword, Hammer, Mace, Sword, Focus#5, Meditations(Smite Condition, Judge’s Intervention), Downed(except #1), Soaring Devastation, Zealot’s Speed, Smiter’s Boon, Traps.Traps do not work with Pure of Sight unless there is truly no foes around you when you place them(otherwise the foes activate it while you are still above the traps thereby negating Pure of Sight), and you actually have to run away from where you placed the Traps, and the enemy must also somehow manage to walk on the traps on their way to you.
Staff works with Pure of Sight, but trying to do damage with a Staff is stupid.
Only half of Shield(#4) and half of Focus(#4) work with Pure of Sight.
Bane Signet, Greatsword#5, Hammer#3 work with Pure of Sight, but only have damage equivalent to an auto-attack or less and have 40s, 30s, 15s recharge respectively. This makes Pure of Sight a trait that only increases an auto-attack’s worth of damage by 10% every 40/30/15s when using those.
Signet of Wrath has a damage coefficient of 62. Increasing 62 by 10% is 68. Funny Joke.
Longbow, Scepter and Torch work with Pure of Sight.
(but that’s also provided you are standing beyond the range threshold)Meanwhile, Chronomancer is getting increased Movement Speed as Minor, Revenant is getting increased Boon Duration and Berserker is getting increased Attack Speed, regardless of what weapon they are wielding, along with the fact that their Minor traits work with both of their equipped weapons at all times, no matter what build they use…
I dont want to switch professions after 3 years, no thanks. I want Dragonhunter to be good. To do that, it is clear that Pure of Sight needs to go.
(edited by Turtle Dragon.9241)
Their silence is deafening.
It’s reached the point that on Guardian forums, people already gave up, nobody is even discussing or posting about Dragonhunter.
People have been discussing how to transition into Revenant instead.
For example,
A Ranger named Blue Lord and also names his/her pet Blue Lord.
A Mesmer named Illusionary Mage/Duelist etc.
With different accents of course(since many of these are probably already taken)
Are names that give you an advantage fair in PvP?
Well, it’s not as bad as it sounds. The thing is, HoT comes out on the 23rd, which is close to the end of the month. I’ll have to keep an eye on how much is used up during the month and save some for HoT. It’s not too far off from November though, so even if I dont manage, I’ll just wait a week to play.
If it is only 10GB though, it’s very manageable.
I live in Brazil and my monthly quota for download is about 60GB (I’m not really sure because I never reached that) yours can’t be that much lower.
Well, you wont reach that alone, but when multiple people share a 50GB monthly quota, it can get there quite easily.
But, the thing is, anet is always busy, working hard
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/v/13268205?t=42m00s
Girl: I think you have stuff to do, you should probably get back to your desk.
Dev – ^Runs around the battle field spamming Daredevil Elite skill^
THIS is busy, THIS is working hard.
Meanwhile, take a good guess on who is responsible for Dragonhunter and Tempest.
