Being rewarded for being evil

You made a mistake. I made the same mistake not long ago.
Your mistake is to play with a guild that you are not a member of.

If everyone is from different guilds and/or servers, then it’s free for all. But when you play with a group that has 2 or more party members who are from the same guild, this becomes their territory. If you also have 2 members from your guild in the party, then the first side to start a kick wins.

I was in a party in CoF P2 with 3 guild members from the same guild. They had no clue how to get Magg across. I offered to solo, all i got is a large amount of insults. After many deaths on their part, we managed to get Magg through.

Luckily, I did not get kicked out by them, but it was clear that if one of them had requested a kick, I would be. It really felt like being an alien in enemy territory. I /reported the person who verbally abused me. I dont think Arenanet suspends any accounts unless they have like over 50 reports against them, but I know I have not seen that person online on my blocklist for a couple of days now…they were probably rude to other people as well.

If you see a 2 people from the same guild in your party, add them to your friend list. If things turn sour, you move them to the block list. If everything goes well, just remove them from your friend list(i am sure you can recognize your friends from randomly recently added people).

I can tell you that I know some people who cross check party members with every party they join(just look at the last 4 digits and see if the match, if they do then look at account name) and leave if there is someone from their blocklist. Specially when they see 2 or more people from the same guild. It barely takes a few seconds to check who is in your party by the time everyone else gets into the dungeon.

A lot of comments really sounds like you didn’t tak time to read hat the game is like before buying it. Especially the no trinity parts and the lack of vertical progression in PvP.

I agree with there being too much focus on damage and not enough on defence though. Although some end-game content has a lot of focus on defence, we just don’t have enough of them.

I disagree about the “reading what the game is like” part.
Some people say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is worth a thousand pictures.

This is the video that absolutely and successfully describes GW2 in its entirety correctly, and this is the reason why I bought the game. Just watching this video brings tears back to my eyes.

So… you were trying random codes and found an armor “of Testing” and deemed it “not appropriate” prior to it existing…

With all the problems in the game, that already exist, how can you even conceive complaining about a bug, for something that doesn’t even exist in game, other than in code, that by name gives the impression of… I don’t know… Testing…

The naked characters have no specific parts other than a butt crack…

I that what is not appropriate is you data mining the game trying to discover items that have not been introduced.
Are you attempting to take advantage of future updates by guessing what materials may be needed to craft things, and stocking up on those to control the market upon their release?

http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?lang=en&color=10&sex=1&w=3&race=2

I did not datamine anything.
I know people who have been infracted for posting a picture of this armor on forums.
Therefore I consider this to be inappropriate for the gaming and forums communities alike.

Passive Effect Overlay Timer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Q: Would such a thing be allowed?

Many players are already using an Overlay from gw2stuff.com to know when events show up on which server, so that they are present for those.

I am thinking of making a different kind of overlay timer that would deal specifically with “passive timed effects”.

For example, Signet of Inspiration provides a random boon every 10 seconds while it is not on cooldown. Or Virtue of Courage gives you Aegis every 40 seconds while it is not on cooldown.

So far people have just been putting in the traits/skills with passive timed effects and let it activate randomly, “hoping” it would activate at the right time(like Aegis popping up on you the moment that Warrior uses Eviscerate).

For the sake of min-maxing, it would help players to know exactly when a condition is removed by Purity/Signet of Resolve, or exactly when Aegis pops up to prevent the next attack. This can have great effects on combat, such as saving your condition removal utility because you know condition removal is coming the next second, or timing activating your aegis perfectly so that you can get a double block(passive pops in, then activate immediately for active).

Technically it does not give players that much of an advantage, you could count each of these timers in your head already, it would just make it easier to keep track. As well as it does not have to be a program that interacts with or modifies anything in GW2.

Would this be considered bannable?

Protective Spirit. Not that shady weak version that appears in Tome of Courage, but the real one. You cannot take damage greater than 10% of your health in 1 hit.

Diversion. Not the GW2 shatter. Target foe’s next skill gains +59s recharge. Bye autoattack 111111

Blackout. This one could actually work in GW2. Your skills are disabled for 5 seconds, target foe’s skills are disabled for 6 seconds.

I’d like to see Aquabreathers of better rarity than Rare. They introduced Ascended Armor but did not introduced Ascended Aquabreather…

If an armor piece replaces your headgear while underwater with stats and rune too, you should at least be able to acquire an Exotic/Ascended version of it.

If they do not plan to introduce Ascended Aquabreathers, then change headgear to use your land helmet’s stats while underwater and make the Aquabreather appear like a skin only.

Also, the ability to “not show” Aquabreathers while underwater should be possible. Before anyone says it breaks immersion, the immersion is already broken with the fact that you can simply not wear an aquabreather while underwater already and stay alive, as well as a broken(damaged) aquabreather does not show while underwater.

all weapons to all classes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

I think some classes are designed to not have certain weapon types.

But i think some weapons can still fit in classes.

Warrior with Dagger
In the offhand only. Like Rambo. There are a lot of heavy armors that actually make one look like Rambo, and Rambo has a survival knife.

Ranger with Hammer
Very popular build in GW1 known as the Bunny Thumper. Besides, it would not be strange for mossman to be wielding a hammer.

Ranger with Staff
Druids are a well loved class in other MMOs.

Necromancer with Greatsword
And bring the chainsaw greatsword back too. This would fit amazingly well. Necros are creepy, and there is nothing more creepy than seeing somebody with a chainsaw ready to mutilate your body and then raise it into a minion. Think about it.

Thief with Staff
Also very popular builds in GW1, such as Shadowform sin, or Asacaster(double s removed because of kitty filter). Ninjas used sticks to fight as well.

Guardian with Sword
In the offhand. Dual Wielding Paladins was a favourite class in Final Fantasy Tactics/Advance/Advance2.

Guardian with Longbow
We already have a spirit weapon bow, and Light/Holy Arrows exists in many many games.

Elementalist with Pistol
That shoots out bullets of different elements.

Engineer with Hammer
Self-explanatory

Mesmer with Pistol
In the main hand. Phantasmal Duelist already has dual pistols.

Healing Power

in Guardian

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

I wanted to do a durable last man standing build. But so many people are saying the developers want everybody to spec for damage and healing power scales terribly. Seems kinda boring if everybody is a DPS spec. If i wanted to melee DPS i would play a warrior.

As you can see, there is no such thing as “last man standing” in a dungeon run. If your party wipes at a dungeon and you are the “last man standing”, then they are inexperienced(a.k.a noobs) or really bad players. Meaning you should leave that party immediately and get another.

This is the mentality of GW2 dungeon speed runners.

You go all out DPS, and if you do not survive you are bad and must be kicked. There is no point arguing about taking Toughess or Vitality with dungeon speed runners, or arguing about the need for a “last man standing(tank)” or “healer(support)” in the team, to them these just make the run slower.

Speed runners simply do not wipe. Even if they do, they will never admit to the possibility of wiping, because that would be like admitting they are bad players. Full DPS will always get you a perfect run.

It also does not matter how many times you have rezzed your party by being tanky to prevent them from wiping in a dungeon, they will simply tell you the run went slow, not because of them going down, but because of you not being full DPS. Afterall, if you went DPS, the boss would be dead, and they would not have downed. It is your fault.

So in conclusion, Rezzing does not exist for speed runners. It is a mechanic that has no place in a speed run. You will get a “ty” if you rez someone, but that does not mean “thank you”, it is simply a word that clears the fact that they wiped from their memory.

Proof: Does any good player know the name of the last person that rezzed them? Does any good player remember the last time they ended in downed/defeated state? 99% of the population will answer NO. And if you do answer this question with the name of the player who last rezzed you, I am sorry to tell you that you are not a good player.

Okay, so here’s the thing.

If you have a piece of armor that cannot be salvaged(such as Karma bought armor or WvW bought armor) and it has an upgrade in it, you still do not need this new item. Why? just take a transmutation crystal(40gems) and transmute the rune only onto your new piece of armor. Much cheaper.

Of course you lose the exotic that would have been salvaged, but you couldnt salvage it anyway because it was karma/wvw armor…

Top 5 Things You Think Should Be Added

in Suggestions

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

1. Ascended Aquabreather
Aquabreather is your headpiece while underwater, it also takes into account your stats and runes on it. If they dont implement Ascended Aquabreather, then change underwater combat to use regular headpiece slot…

2. WvW Omni/Versatile Infusions

3. Paragon Class
Class Mechanic: Chants F1-F4
Chants would be similar to Attunements(only 1 active at a time), and has a nearby ally/foe range. The chants grant extra stats to allies(similar to Empowered Allies/Spotter/Strength in Numbers traits), or minus stats to foes, or special type of buffs(like Illusionary Defender). The Chant is a continuous effect as long as allies/foes are in range of the Paragon’s chant.
Trait: If you swap chant, all allies/foes in range gain a boon/condition(depending on the chant) and the skill goes on cooldown.
Weapons: Javelin/Lance(1-handed) + Shield.
Utility: Shout, Signet, Stance, Songs, Echos.
Songs provide a powerful effect every 5 seconds to allies/enemies in range and move with the Paragon all the time. When using a Song utility, your Chant is disabled while the Song is active. Pressing the skill again simply ends the Song and it goes on cooldown(and your Chant goes back up).
Echos target a foe. After 5 seconds, that foe gains a condition(depending on the Echo). When that effect activates, all of the foes in range of that foe also gain that condition.

4. New Hair colors. Strawberry, Humiliation, Viridian, Lime.

5. Skin Wardrobe.

I just want people’s opinions on the following funny situations that I witnessed.
I do not sell dungeons, I dont even have a Warrior.

Everyone knows about people selling Arah P2 in LFG Tool.
(No names will be mentioned in this thread)

Situation1:
So this Warrior ran the whole thing and posted “Selling Arah P2 5g at boss”.
Then comes another player into the Warrior’s team, and quickly runs and solos the boss. Both the Warrior and the other player(who didnt pay the Warrior at all) get the end reward. The Warrior could not do anything about it, as nobody else joined the team and you need 2 people to kick. If the Warrior decided to leave the team, then both of them would not get the reward, and the Warrior wasted his/her time running through Arah until the boss.

Situation2:
So this Warrior ran the whole thing and posted “Selling Arah P2 5g at boss”.
Then comes 2 other players into the Warrrior’s team, and one of them states that they will get the run for FREE, or nobody else will. So the Warrior gets both of them kicked out of the team quickly(with help of another party member who wanted to buy the path). They both join the Warrior’s party again using the LFG Tool, and quickly kick the Warrior out of the party and the instance.

Situation3:
So this Warrior ran the whole thing and posted “Selling Arah P2 5g at boss”.
Then comes another Warrior who is the first to join the team. When the other buyers join the team, the 2nd Warrior claims to be the instance owner and to pay him/her. The other party members are confused on who to mail 5g to.

In Situation1, the Warrior did not get gold from any buyers.
In Situation2, the Warrior is blackmailed into doing it for free.
In Situation3, the Warrior gets his/her run hijacked by another Warrior.

So is it wrong(or even considered an exploit) to just go into those “Selling Arah” parties and just get everything for free?

Discuss.

Situation 1 is funny. One guy is trying to make a few bucks, and so is the other. They’re both quite similar.

Situation 2 I’m not sure I follow. They all got kicked out? I guess they just sabotaged it for everyone? Quite lame.

Situation 3, why not just kick the silly Warrior that tried to get the money? That was deceitful of him. Probably the worst of these cases.

I liked the first scenario best, some kind of poetic justice there.

In Situation2, the Warrior who did the run is “blackmailed”. He/she either runs it for FREE and everybody gets their share of gold(from end-reward), or they kick him/her out, thus ending the instance, and nobody gets anything. Then the 2 people move to the “next” Warrior in the LFG tool who is “Selling Arah P2 5g at boss” and do the blackmail process again etc. Got it now?

In Situation3, you have 2 Warriors on the team, the legitimate one who did the run, and the usurper. The next 3 people who join the team do NOT know which of the 2 Warriors is the legitimate instance owner, as both claim to be so in chat. They also do not know who to send the gold to. If there is an attempt to kick, they might kick the instance owner.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

-snip-

This doesn’t make any sense. Skills are an integral part of the character that can never be “reset” in this manner; comparing that to equipment upgrading is just silly lmao. Dude, think about it. If you didn’t have to “replace” all that hard-earned exotic gear you have, it would make progression way too easy. Everyone would be laughing at how simple progression would be if you could salvage an exotic and get all the materials you spent making it back, as an example. That’s horrible game design and you would realize how flawed a game like that would be if such a system existed.

To those who think this dilemma about having to “replace” your hard-earned progression is bad, just think about the most popular MMO: World of Warcraft. That’s EXACTLY what all those millions of players do every time there’s a new freaking patch! So to say that having resets of your progression is bad game design is nothing short of laughably silly. Think about it. Every time there’s a new freaking patch in World of Warcraft, everyone has to replace ALL their gear from a new raid. And that game design has worked JUST FINE for Blizzard. I rest my case.

-snip-

Having your skills replaced permanently was a sarcastic remark to stress how ridiculous “discarding” could get, not a suggestion. I guess everyone else who read my post understood that much…

The current system forces you to make a new item from scratch every time a new tier of gear comes out

There are efficient systems out there that do not require discarding.
Example1: it currently takes 1 Vision Crystal, 1 Ascended Inscription, 1 Spiritwood Focus Casing and 1 Spiritwood Focus Core to craft an Ascended Focus. Then I have to salvage my Exotic “hard-earned” Focus and replace it with the Ascended Focus.

There could easily be a system that simply upgrades my Exotic Focus instead. Take your Exotic Focus with its current skin, apply 1 Vision Crystal, 8 Spiritwood Planks and 3 Deldrimor Ingots to it and it becomes Ascended(with the same skin).
It uses the same mats, so the amount of time is the same, and it does not make the progression “too easy” as you claim. Its just that this time, my Exotic Focus became more powerful instead of it being salvaged and replaced by an Ascended Focus.

The point of this is that if you currently have say T4 Gear, you would not need to start from scratch everytime there is a new tier of gear that comes out. You could simply upgrade your T4 gear into T5, then T6. It is basically a dual system. On one side you can use “less mats” on your T5 Weapon to make it T6, on the other hand you can craft a T6 Weapon directly from scratch.
So those who have made the effort to get T5 gear previously can simply upgrade for a little cheaper, those who never got T5 gear can just aim directly at T6 gear. This is just a much more flexible system. It rewards the players who have gotten your last tier of gear by charging them less mats, while giving a chance to new players to catch up directly to the current gear-tier(Skip T5). I would not mind if you introduced T7+ gear, as long as each time a new tier comes out, I can upgrade my current instead of it becoming obsolete.

As to your point on WoW, that’s exactly why people left WoW and came to GW2! We do not like that system, we were just forced to do it to move further while paying a subscription fee, and GW2 promised NOT to have such a stupid system like that where every 6 months a new tier of gear comes out and everyone re-starts from scratch.

Example2: The fact that I have to discard/replace my previous +10AR infusion in my Ring, have to make 2 more +10AR infusions(for a +11AR infusion) just to upgrade by +1AR is already a bad system.

As already mentioned about AR infusions, make a bar on the Ascended Rings(exactly like the current Magic Find bar) and we just keep applying more +1AR infusions to the rings to increase that bar. When the bar fills, we get +1AR on that Ring. In a way, this system would be similar to the materia system from FF7 if you want another reference.

Another example of bad system:
Let’s say Level 100 is the New Maximum Cap. Those who are already level 80 should only have 20 levels more to go. Not have their levels reset to 1, then level all the way to 100. Getting resetted back to level 1 wipes all the current work i did to get to 80.
This is not progression, this just feels like you making me start the game all over again.

Progression is meant to move forward only!

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Here is my opinion on Character Progression.
Be it Horizontal or Vertical progression, Guild Wars 2 has a fundamental flaw:
The fact that I have to discard almost everything I previously worked hard for.

Here are examples:

1. Ascended Equipment(Horizontal and Vertical Progression)
Ascended gear provides vertical progression in the game. But you are asking me to discard my current Exotic weapon, and also buy Transmutation stones to keep the skin I like, just so I can progress vertically. It feels like a rip off. Once I transmute my Exotic skin on the Ascended item, my Exotic(all my previous hard work) is gone. Poof! Vanished.
Instead, there should be a system of upgrading equipment. For example, if you told me to take my Exotic weapon and add 5 Dragonite Ingots etc to it to upgrade it to Ascended, I would not mind so much. The fact that I am creating a whole new item and discarding my old item just does not feel like progression to me.
I once played a game where you could improve the quality and level of an item by adding materials on it. It was very heavy in vertical progression. However, what I enjoyed about it is that the same level1 sword i started with became the Ultimate Giant Sword of Doom. Then they introduced a new type of tier and i upgraded it using a million mats to the Ultimate Giant Sword of Doom(+1). It was still my sword all along. I did have to farm 1 million mats, but nowhere did I need to discard my current weapon. Ever.

2. Agony Infusions(Vertical Progression)
I have already posted my opinion on this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fractured/Agony-changes/first#post3228864
If I put a +10 AR infusion in my Ring, it is stuck in that Ring. Then if i want to upgrade to +11AR on that Ring, I have to completely replace my +10AR infusion currently in my Ring. All that hard work to get a +10AR infusion, now you are telling me to farm 2 more to make a +11AR infusion and delete the old one? This is a bad system. It completely overwrites the progression I worked so hard previously, making me re-work twice the amount of my previous progression to progress again. There should be a way to simply keep applying +1AR to a Ring, and the Ring has its own progression bar, and it gains +1AR when the bar fills(EXACTLY like Essence of Luck works right now!).

3. One-time-use Skins(Horizontal Progression)
Similar to the above 2. Once you use a skin, it’s used. Game over. There are expensive little out-of-rule tricks with Transmutation Crystals/Splitters to get back a skin and/or transfer it on another character etc, but if you overwrite a skin like Shattered Dragon Wings with a Quaggan Backpack for example, you are not getting the previous Wings back ever again. It’s gone for good. So if I want to change my looks often, I have to have one ascended backpack for each look I want, or pay a super high price of Crystals and Splitters each time i switch. I am not progressing. I am stuck with one look forever because of the high cost, or renounce to a previous look permanently to get a new look.

I honestly dont mind Vertical Progression in this or any game. What I mind the most is discarding what I worked so hard for, or giving up something forever.
Here is a “how bad it could be” scenario:
You currently have Endure Pain equipped on your Warrior. You can replace Endure Pain by Dolyak Signet on your skill bar, but then you cannot use Endure Pain ever again unless you remake your whole character. Does Permanent choices of skill sound cool to you? No. It’s ridiculous, right?
I feel about the 3 above-mentioned examples are as ridiculous as this one.

Ascended Armor Calculated(Heavy only)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

I laugh at everyone who say ascended is useless. Hah! Chums.

Putting numbers like that out of context is really ridiculous and tells us nothing (sadly). If we’re going to talk numbers let’s approach this the logical way (instead of the emotional, which is looking at the minor numerical difference and then dying a little inside). The percentual difference between an exotic piece and an ascended piece in pure armor is 4.95 (100 – (1271/1211*100)).

The following is hyperbole.

If the average armor of a player in exotics is 3000 (to simplify stuff) the comparative ascended armor would be at 3148 armor (3000*1,0495). Now you think “well that’s barely any difference!” but remember that one piece of exotic armor is worth in average 201 armor. Since we have low-armor pieces (of 121) and high-armor pieces (of 363) going for the average is dumb (total value/amount of gear pieces) so the median (middle-number) might be better, which in this case would be 182 (121 121 182 182 242 363).

Basically a full ascended gear loadout is equal to adding another slot of gear for strength (between head/shoulders and hands/foot in worth). That’s insane!

Imagine the impact this will have on World versus World.

Wrong math…

Adding the difference of all 6 armor pieces
+60 Armor
+14 Primary Stat
+11 Secondary Stat
+11 Secondary Stat

If the average armor of a player in exotics is 3000 the comparative ascended armor would be at 3060(3000 + 60) armor, and that’s provided we are talking about Heavy Classes.

Given that Ascended Armor can have 6 Defensive Infusions, we end up at 3090(3060 + 30) provided we use Toughness Infusions.

Even with Toughness as primary attribute, we end up at 3104(3090 + 14) Toughness.

104 Toughness difference ends up being 3.47% extra Armor compared to Exotics, and that’s provided you waste your 6 defensive infusiton slots on Toughness instead of using Omni Offensive Infusions for +power and using Toughness as your main attribute.

Smite absolutely needs to be a symbol. No doubt. It would fix all of the problems the attack has while keeping the same general functionality (a ground-targeted AoE) and give another reliable Symbol build weapon, which would be great since right now Symbols are rather limited. Damage would probably have to be reduced (compared to the “max” damage Smite can do if you get all hits) but the added utility of being a Symbol would make up for that. The only issue is which boon it would give. I guess maybe Might would be the least broken of the current boons that have no associated symbol. 2 or 3 stacks that last 1 second per pulse, perhaps?

Chains of Light, lower the cooldown. A lot. Its a single-target snare on a weapon that encourages you to play at mid-range, it really needs to be usable much more frequently. Also, set the range to 1200. The other attacks on the weapon have 1200 range and it would help you catch up to people at longer range, which again is good because you’re being encouraged to fight at mid-range with Scepter.

If Smite and especially Chains of Light got changed, I think that would be good enough that the AA wouldn’t really need much of a change. It already does very respectable damage.

I would like to add that +10% damage to Scepters is in the Zeal line, whose minor traits fully and only deal with symbols, while the Scepter itself(or any offhand you combo with it for that matter) does not have any Symbols. Why do i need to invest 20 points in Zeal for Symbols minor traits just to get +10% damage to Scepter trait?

Appreciate ascended armor you dang kids!

Get AC dungeon tokens, or SE or HotW. Buy exotic armor pieces with Soldier’s stats for 180 tokens each. Salvage. I spent 1800 tokens(10 pieces) and got 6 Soldier’s Gossamer Insignia and a lot of Ectos and Dark Matters. Use Black Lion Kit preferably.

Proposed change: Light Whirl Combo

in Guardian

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Right now, Light Field + Whirl Finisher seems to be really underwhelming and weak to use as a combo. Most people just use Light Fields for Retaliation by Leap/Blast, the other 2 are practically never used(at least very rarely used correctly).

So, I have 2 proposed changes.
EITHER
1. Make Cleansing Bolts target enemies just like all other Whirl combos.
Whenever Cleansing Bolt hits an enemy, you transfer one of the following conditions on yourself to that enemy: Bleeding, Poison, Torment, Burning, Confusion. Then the new condition applied in this way deals damage relative to the Light Whirl combo user’s Condition Damage stats.

Why are the consequences?
Condition Damage Guardian instantly becomes viable in PvP. Whenever faced with another Condition user, you become an instant counter to them, by taking their own DoT or Confusion that they applied to you, and returning it to them with your own Condition Damage stats. It also has good synergy with Save Yourselves in a way.

Why is this not OP?
Simple, if you are not facing someone who is applying DoT/Confusion conditions on you, your build becomes useless. It is a counter build that is specific for certain situations. Cleansing Bolts is meant to remove a condition anyway, but it is not doing a great job at it with its current state.

OR
2. Make Cleansing Bolts target small portions of the ground.
Just like Engineers dropping Med Kits and other little items on the ground, that on pick-up heals/removes conditions. When activated, Cleansing Bolts create a small Light Orb on the ground that stays. When a party member who has a condition picks it up, they lose 1 condition.

I will only post the ascended mats or costly mats. You know the formula, same for weapon.

6 Exotic Insignia of your stats choice.
120 Crystalline Dust
25 Bolt Damask
16 Deldrimor Ingots
30 Dark Matter
15 Bloodstone Bricks
15 Empyreal Star
15 Dragonite Ingot

Note:
Only Chestplate required Vision Crystal, the other 5 require Lesser Crystal(2 Bloodstone Brick, 2 Dragonite Ingot, 2 Empyreal Star). Also 5 Dark Matter per insignia(unlike 10 per inscription).

Should be same for Leatherworker/Tailor. Can anyone confirm?

More or less the same for Leatherworker.

On another note does anyone know where I can find the ascended backpiece recipes?

Light of Dwayna
1 Vision Crystal
50 Icy Runestones
15 Bolts of Damask
7 Charged Lodestone

Shadow of Grenth
1 Vision Crystal
50 Icy Runestones
15 Bolts of Damask
10 Glacial Lodestones

It’s on Dulfy.

Lol this again. Its like some people are on a quest to prove no one plays gw2 any longer or something. I dont know why everyone of your friends appears offline, all I can tell you is the game looks far from empty to me.

Please re-read, I never said the game is empty.
I am saying that GW1 players seem to really be the minority and all of the people i knew from GW1 seem to be gone from GW2.
Only recently did I realize that most of my current friendlist consists of people who did not play GW1.
It just seems to me that GW2 consists of mostly non-GW1 players now, and what Rubi said yesterday just seems to confirm that.

GW1 players are a minority?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

Is it true?

I was reading chat with Rubi Bayer yesterday while Wintersday Livestream was on air.
She practically told everyone in chat that “this will be the FIRST Wintersday for MOST players”.

What does that mean?

Does that mean that most players joined after December 2012?
Did GW2 sell more copies in 2013 than from release?
Taken from Wikipedia:
By January 2013, over 3 million copies of the game have been sold. By August 2013 the sales have shifted 3.5 million copies.
It does not seem likely GW2 sold more copies in 2013 than in 2012.

Most people who pre-purchased or bought GW2 in 2012 were GW1 active players, friends of GW1 active players, GW1 players who left, friends of GW1 players who left.

Does that mean most people who Pre-purchased are gone?
If so, where are they gone to?
Follow me on this:
Given that 3million purchases were made between Aug2012-Jan2013,
and 500k purchases were made between Jan2013-Aug2013,
and assuming that all players who bought GW2 in 2013 are still active,
it seems that 500k players are experiencing their FIRST Wintersday, and apparently they are a MAJORITY of players in the game.
If the majority is 500k, then the minority is less than 500k.
Then, it means that less than 500k of the 3million players who bought GW2 in 2012 are still active then, since those who bought the game in 2012 are a minority.
That means that more than 2.5 million players left GW2?

After last night’s Livestream, I noticed something, so I just checked my friendlist, my followers list, and my GW1>GW2 guild when we all moved to GW2 list. I even checked my block list.
Why is everyone appearing offline?

You won’t be able to buy ascended armor, it will be account-bound to those that craft it or have it drop just like the ascended weapons.

I meant “buy Ascended rings/amulet/accessories” with laurels or commendations or pristine relics. Also, ascended weapon and armor? Craft them on another character and put them in bank. Big deal… that’s beyond the point anyway.

I am sorry to tell you that your achievement will mean nothing as of tomorrow, and does not mean much even if you made it today. Congratulations though, because in your heart you know you worked a lot.

Here is why it has little worth now, and even less tomorrow.

1. Create character in Shaemoor.
2. Recieve prestart Bank Golem from Mail and use it.
3. Take out Permanent Bank Express/or many 1-time-use Bank Express(optional).
4. Take out 1 Experience Scroll(immediate level 20) from Bank.
5. Buy 60 Tomes of Knowledge from PvP(as of tomorrow).
6. Take out 60 Tomes of Knowledge from Bank and use them(+60 levels).
7. Buy Adept/Master/GM Manuals and take them from Bank(optional).
8. Buy Commander Title and take it from Bank(optional).
9. Buy Ascended whatever you want and take them from Bank(optional).

Level 80 fully traited, fully max geared, Commander in Shaemoor done in 5 minutes.

You are now officially the God Walking Among Mere NPCs(the last few times i created a new character, the starter zone was very deserted).

Even today, Tomes of Knowledge can be obtained from Black Lion Chest, WvW Season 1 Participation Bag, Tri-key Chest or WvW Season 1 Reward Chest.

I would not be surprised that you used the 10 Tomes from WvW season 1, or overfarmed Tri-Keys, or bought lots of BLKeys for Tomes of Knowledge.

Strawberry(red)

I do map completion, roleplay, dailies/monthlies, organized guild events, jumping puzzles, alt leveling, open world events, and occasionally living story stuff. It works out well, since I don’t want to be in game at all times.

The personal story has Trahearne.
The living story has Scarlet.

Many do not like the plant people. Less than 15% of GW2 players actually have a sylvari, let alone main a sylvari. This should give you an idea.

Those are some pretty fake statistics you’ve conjured up out of nowhere.

Perhaps they are a bit outdated, but it is very close

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/14111-character-statistics-pie-charts/page__st__30
When the game started, 15% of players from a sample size said they would play sylvari.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/POLL-Race-Gender-Profession-demographics
This was made about 9 months ago, and the result for sylvari is about 20%. That is to say multiple players from that sample have multiple sylvari counted(so counted more than once) if you check the thread. The number of players who actually own at least 1 sylvari character would be clearly less than or equal to it, so approximately 15%-20%.

If you have more up to date statistics, please conjure them out of somewhere for us to see.

The plant people dont have much to them other than being surprised by very common things and asking absolutely silly questions. This gets redundant and boring quite fast. Even the sylvari hero Caithe seems like the 5th wheel, we have Rytlock vs Logan pairing, Zojja vs Eir pairing and Caithe is simply the one-copper-glue.

What keeps people playing is RP. Do you like your character but don’t like the story that Trahearne stole from you? Make your own! I once saw a group of people running the dredge fractal with 5 asurans pretending to be Bilbo Baggins and friends, and the dredge were orcs. Sure it is farfetched but they were clearly having fun.

Some people even level up their characters so they can RP in different regions of the game. The game world is beautiful, you have to admit at least that.

tl;dr
The answer to your question is RP.

Immobilize in itself is not broken. However when combined with certain situations, you are dead without being able to defend yourself.

If someone immobilizes you while you jump, and you are still in mid-air, you cannot activate any skills until immobilize ends, and it may not end simply because immobilize stacks in duration. Therefore, you might be dead without you being able to act. There is no dodging while in midair.

If someone immobilizes you while you are at the surface of water, you are also practically dead, because you have 0 skills while on water surface, so you cannot remove conditions because you cannot activate any skills. I once saw a guild chaining immobilize one by one on a poor wvw player at water surface, who could not move at all until dead. It was funny to watch a broken mechanic at play, but also very sad. There is no dodging while on water surface.

So advice to all players:
Do not jump unless you have to get over higher ground.
Do not stay on water surface(go underwater instead as it is safer).

Hi all. I need some tips about reducing the loading screen time. I usually play with almost maxed out….maybe this is the problem?
I usually need fast loading screen when i farm with a group some champions, but sometimes i miss some of them cuz of the 100 decades i wait to load.
If it matters, then my OS is:
I3-2100 3.1 GHz
GTX 660 ti 2 GB
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit

So is my CPU the main cause or should i lower the graphics settings (and put it at low, medium or which settings should i lower?)

I have an i7-3770k and 8GB RAM, the rest is about the same as you

I have installed GW2 both on my 2TB HDD and my 128GB SSD

Loading times for Lion’s Arch at NA peak time
HDD: 1:25 (85 seconds)
SDD: 0:08 (8 seconds)
Measured with Stopwatch.

There is nothing else that makes as much difference as an SSD drive in life.

Ascended vs Celestial Armors

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Ok, so I’m frustrated about this. I’d heard about the ascended armors coming out, but I was under the impression it was a long way off. Alas, it is not.

I spent my time working on a suit of celestial armor for my divinity runes. And I have been doing the daily grind of working on the charged quartz for a second set for traveler runes (for my wvw set).

And NOW, I find out ascended isn’t as far off as I’d thought. My concern is celestial armor is now going to be- well, as worthless as any other non-ascended exotic armor. And considering we haven’t had the charged quartz nodes all THAT long in comparison, that you can only get one a day, etc, I feel a bit like I just wasted time.

Unless, of course, there isn’t an ascended celestial ascended armor set. I’d be torn on my view of that.

Ascended armor will probably require exotic insignia to make the ascended insignia, just like ascended weapons need exotic inscription to make the ascended inscription. Therefore, salvage your celestial exotic armor after patch hits for a chance at getting back celestial exotic insignia, which would mean you will need less quartz for the ascended celestial armor by doing so.

Given that Aquabreathers replace your headpiece while under water(and it even takes a 7th rune to slide in for 6/6 effect), we should have a way to max that too. You have an underwater fractal afterall.

Purging Flames Condition Duration

Turtle Dragon.9241

Incoming conditions only. It works exactly the same way as -% foods. The bleed will last the full 15 seconds.

Incoming conditions from Save Yourselves is a good question though, you should be able to test that. If it applies as a “new” condition, then yes. If it forces the new condition to last just as long as the ones you withdrew from your allies, then no.

Despite Svarty’s completely off topic condemnation of it in PvP, I must insist that it’s an excellent skill in any environment due to the low cooldown (28 seconds), high number of conditions cured, and synergy with Fiery Wrath.

Since it applies to incoming conditions,
I am looking at a possible combo, using PF to remove 3 conditions from people(including self), staying/moving in the PF at the last second, use SY.
You would remove 3 conditions at the start.
Then reduce the conditions applied to anyone standing in the PF.
Then SY to draw all the reduced conditions to you at the last second of PF.
The new conditions applied to you would be reduced again, to almost nothingness.

So you get party condition removal, condition reduction for 5 seconds, followed by full party cleanse + SY boons. All that in 2 skills.
Additionally, while SY is recharging, you could even use PF once more during that time(28s compared to 60s of SY).

Compared to CoP + SY, which both have 60 cooldown untraited and only give full party cleanse(Boons from CoP only is little, boons from SY are also gained in the above), the above combo seems more interesting to me.

CoP does give an extra stunbreaker and boons, but PF is a fire field and burns.

I dont know how to test PF + SY, so i am looking for someone who could confirm if this works or not. Where would you test this reliably?

Purging Flames Condition Duration

How does the -33% Condition Duration work exactly?

If i have 3 conditions + Bleeding for 15 seconds, then use Purging Flames and it removes the 3 conditions, does Bleeding get -33% duration? Or does it apply only to incoming conditions while i am standing in the consecrated area?

If I cast Purging Flames and use Save Yourselves to pull all conditions to myself while sitting in the consecrated area, do all conditions inflicted by myself get reduced? I know most people use SY before PF(you pull conditions then cleanse), but if you are going to get 10 conditions by using SY, it might be preferable to use PF first then SY? Does that work?

As a GW1 player, i can say the following:

1. Jump
2. Dodge roll
3. Gold > Gems
If you play enough, you can afford anything that’s on the gemstore, meaning you dont have to spend anything.
4. Character Creation
Just choose a new character slot and you may still get lost in creation for hours.
5. AoE Loot
This is really great, no more need to “run to each item/corpse and pick up”. Although an auto-pickup system(loot gets into your inventory directly the moment something dies) would be better than AoE Looting.

What motivates you to play a game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

What motivates you to continue playing? Recently I’ve started to think about the motives that drive different people to play the same game. I suspect a lot of the hostility I see on the forums could be caused by different people not understanding what makes others tick. Essentially, most of us are unable to see that other people like things differently than we do.

In a recent thread it occurred to me that there may be at least four different types of players. I’m curious to know if there may be more.

A first kind of player enjoy working on enhancing the abilities of their character. They want to continually improve their character is very important to their satisfaction.

A second kind of player enjoys variety. They want to be able to try out lots of different builds and classes.

A third kind may be a social gamer. What motivates them is meeting people and/or playing with friends.

A fourth kind may be the competitive gamer. They want to show their skills and use them to defeat other players. This can be in PvP or the BLTP.

What do you think?

Close but not quite.

if the new AR slots are indefinitely upgradable, there isn’t any need to make other equipment type inherently infused. No infused earrings, for example.

Actually there is:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fractured/Sudden-AR-change-250-Ectos-gone/first#post3228481

W = 2^(n-1)
a (10AR) infusion = 512 (1AR) infusions
a (5AR) infusion = 16 (1AR) infusions

2 (5AR) infusions cost = 512 – 32 = 480 less (1AR) infusions.

You’re just showing the math of how the indefinite increase work. They’ll probably limit it to the current 3 slots because you can keep upgrading those 3 till you’re blue in the face.

But to keep upgrading those, you will need a lot more (1AR) infusions, and a lot more money. Thermocatalytic Regeants are at 14.98 per 10. You need approximately 7g to make a (10AR) infusion, along with 512 (1AR) infusions.

To make a +11, you need 2 +10, which will cost you 14g. +12? 28g.
Keep doubling per +1.

+1 AR reduces Agony very insignificantly.

If they add Infused Trinkets/Weapon/Accessories/Armor, all those +1 get split around.

So all those +5 infusions already slotted are wasted because they can’t be “released” out of the item to be upgraded by an Artificer?

What about my hard earned 5AR/5 Precision? Did I waste those T6 mats?

How i understood it when the dev explained:
You have a +5AR infusion already socketed in your Ascended Ring.
You get yourself a +6AR infusion and apply it to the Ascended Ring.
You replace the +5AR with +6AR instead.
Everytime you want to gain +1AR, you have to make the effort ALL OVER AGAIN.
This is a bad system, it keeps overwriting progression.

The system should be like this:
You have a +5AR infusion already socketed in your Ascended Ring.
You apply a +5AR infusion to the Ascended Ring.
You get a +6AR Ascended Ring.
That way, i keep upgrading my Rings forever.
However, to make a +5AR infusion in the first place, you need artificier100 to combine +1AR infusions etc…
This is a good system, it keeps saving your progression.
