if the new AR slots are indefinitely upgradable, there isn’t any need to make other equipment type inherently infused. No infused earrings, for example.

Actually there is:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fractured/Sudden-AR-change-250-Ectos-gone/first#post3228481

W = 2^(n-1)
a (10AR) infusion = 512 (1AR) infusions
a (5AR) infusion = 16 (1AR) infusions

2 (5AR) infusions cost = 512 – 32 = 480 less (1AR) infusions.

I would appreciate an answer to this:

When you Infuse a Ring/Backpiece in the MysticForge, you lose the current Infusion in it.
Example:
I have a Healing Signet w/Mighty Infusion in it.
I want to make it Healing Signet(Infused).
I place my Healing Signet + mats in the Mystic Forge.
It comes out Healing Signet(Infused) w/ EMPTY Infusion slot.
Therefore, I lost my Mighty Infusion.

Since there is currently no Infused Trinkets/Accessories/Weapons,
Will there be a way to actually keep the current Infusion in the future?
Or should I only use Infusions on Infused Rings/Backpieces for now until the Infused version of the Trinkets come out?

This is important because those Mighty Infusions are not cheap apiece.

Rephrasing the question: are you going to make a way to simply create the new agony-specific"socket"(Infusing) on our current Ascended Trinkets?
Or are you going to keep making us exchange(via Mystic Forge or Crafting) our Ascended Trinkets for Infused versions and lose our Infusions in the process like the above example?

I am currently keeping my Ascended Trinkets/Weapons/Accessories practically empty, because it would be wasted effort to put Mighty Infusions in them if those are just going to be trashed the moment Infused versions of the items come out.

No Field No Finisher?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

Well, Necromancer has no combo fields on axe, daggers, scepter, focus or warhorn. So, I guess that would be a profession with even more weapon sets without combo fields.

Some professions have lots of fields and finishers on their weapons, some have only finishers. I’m not sure..maybe some only have fields. It is what it is.

Wow, me who thought Guardians were in a bad shape with no fields no finishers.
So Necromancers have no fields no finishers on any of those 5 weapons, and nothing in Death Shroud either. So Necromancers could possibly never combo?

At least Necros seem to have some Finishers in Utility, unlike Guardians.

No Field No Finisher?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

GW2 is advertised to have great combat mechanics where you can use Combo Fields and Finishers with your friends. Yet 2 of the weapon sets of the Guardian:

Scepter/Torch
Sword/Torch

have absolutely neither Field nor Finisher. I am aware that i can put down a combo field via utility skills, but then I have no Finisher to perform any combo with it myself…

This feels very lackluster in design when compared to Greatsword(1 field, 3 finishers).

I do not play every class or every weapon combinations possible, but do any of the other 7 professions have any weaponsets that have 0 Fields and 0 Finishers?
Is this common for other professions to have no combos? Is this intended?

(note to moderators: since this is a question about all professions, i dont think it should be in guardian forums. and fields/finishers concern pve too. please move to appropriate section)

I am looking for a hood that would fit a female human using heavy armor.
All hoods I have seen so far seem to come from medium/light armor.
I want a look of an armored knight with hood.

Preferably something like

but for heavy armor.

Any ideas?

Those are Jeweler mats.

Female vs. Male Characters

There is no reason to play a male over a female.
There is no reason to play a female over a male.

Stop categorizing people into groups to make yourself feel good, or make them feel bad. Everyone is different with different tastes, at the end of the day all that matters is for you to say “i like my character”.

Stupid stereotypes:
You dont play a female character? You are a sexist
You play a female character? You are a pervert
You play a male character? You like males
You dont play a human? You have issues
You play an asuran? You are into loli
You play a male asuran? You are into little boys
Your character is not black? You are a racist
Your character is not white? You are also a racist
You used the eye slider in character creation? You are a racist making fun of asians
You did not use the eye slider in character creation? You are a racist towards asians
You play a female charr? Cat girl fetish or zoophilia or both
You play a male charr? You are a serial killer and cannibal
You play a male norn? You have a pro-wrestling fetish
You play a female norn? You have an inferiority complex
You play a sylvari? You are a tree hugger
You do not play a sylvari? You pollute the environment
You play a mesmer? You believe cloning humans should be allowed
You play a necro? You have issues with necrophilia
You do not play a guardian? You are not catholic
You play an engineer? You are definitely not one in real life
You play a ranger? You have no patience with real life pets
You use a greatsword? You are like everyone else
You do not use a greatsword? You are a minority
You own a legendary? You have a credit card or no life
You do not own a legendary? You are a noob
You are not all of the above? You are not god

Psychology was never an exact science or people would be robots.
There are males who play males
There are females who play females
There are males who play females

And me, who thinks that my character looks better than yours.

Ascended items harder to make than Legendary?

I’m confused. The moderator deleted the original post, but not the thread, leaving a quoted version of the original post?

Also, at turtle, I’m assuming you meant you buy gems to turn into gold to buy a legendary off the TP.

1$=4g. Depending on what legendary you want, I think most are going for 2000g-ish. So you’re looking at spending $500 for a legendary. Which I think getting $500 is harder than getting an ascended weapon, but that’s just my opinion.

There are certain people who have received their Legendaries through the mail as a “gift”. Nobody mentioned $500 for a Legendary or Gems>Gold, although that might be an option which is “as effective”. At least it is true that it would also take 5 minutes. There is a rumor that said people who received their Legendary by mail earned it by making a “donation” themselves to a certain cause whose sponsor is rumored to be in China. Of course, this is just a rumor.

I am not allowed to mention other player by names, but I know at least 1 person who received their Legendary as a “gift” by mail.

That’s still along the lines of buying with real money. On top of that, it’s obviously against the TOS so shouldn’t even hold place in this conversation

I do not see anything that I might have said that is against the ToS. I do not see the relation between receiving a Legendary as a “gift” by mail, and buying anything with real money.

There could possibly be people who are benevolently watching which GW2 player donates to their good cause, and rewarding them with Legendaries.

As it stands, it is still true a Legendary can be acquired by a level1 in 5 minutes, be it with Method1 or 2.

Ascended items harder to make than Legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

A Legendary weapon can be acquired within 5 minutes on a level1 character without doing even a single in-game event.

An Ascended weapon requires 500 Dragonite ores and 500 Empyreal Fragments to craft, which requires being level80 and usually take several hours to gather. You may also get lucky and have it drop, but that also requires you to be level80(since Ascended mats do not drop until then), participate in certain events(including so little as opening a chest in Queensdale) and be extremely lucky.

Therefore, it is harder to get an Ascended Weapon than a Legendary Weapon on Average, considering if we use the shortest route that guarantees obtaining the items.

Bloodstone Dust has little to do with it, although it also requires being level80 to obtain, something a Legendary does not.

Zeal V – Shattered Aegis. Damage instead of Burning.
Loses Synergy with Fiery Wrath if you do that. You just said you wanted to improve Guardian damage…that’s 10% damage i lose right here. Just double the Burning duration to improve this trait.

Honor VI – Pure of Heart. Increased scaling with Healing power from 25% to 40%.
Passive Aegis is usually up on a Guardian at ALL times while out of combat. The Aegis gets removed from the first hit you take upon entering combat, therefore you are still at FULL HP and this trait HEALS FOR 0. So this trait really only works for activating Courage with a terribly long recharge, or Retreat with a similar recharge. Therefore, this trait is weak. Getting 3 seconds of Regeneration on Aegis removal would be a better trade-off because we get to benefit from the trait when both passive and active Aegis are removed, along with applying an extra boon to allies for Altruistic Healing when your Aegis is removed from them.

Symbol of Swiftness: This skill now applies 4 seconds of swiftness per pulse, rather than 8 seconds if you have no swiftness and 1 second if you have swiftness.
You might not remember, but this skill was changed to the 8s format back in beta because it was deemed counter-productive to “stand still in a symbol to run faster”.

What you should definitely look into:
Symbolic Exposure/Symbolic Power as minor traits
Sword, Scepter, Shield, Focus, Torch. Neither of these have Symbols. To take Scepter Power trait, I need to take a Symbol related minor trait? Why? There is no Scepter/Anything combo that gives me a Symbol. Therefore, one of my weaponsets do not benefit from these traits. Additionally, there are NO symbol in underwater combat. Combine Symbolic Exposure and Symbolic Power into 1 grandmaster trait and move Kindled Zeal to grandmaster minor. Fiery Wrath would also make a very good replacement as master minor.

Lack of Fields/Finisher
GW2 was advertised to have amazing combos you could pull of with friends as a game mechanic. Sword/Torch and Scepter/Torch combos have neither Field, nor Finisher. The skills on which to add the Fields/Finishers are obvious.
Orb of Wrath = 20% chance of Projectile Finisher.
Zealot’s Defense = 20% chance of Projectile Finisher.
Zealot’s Fire = Projectile Finisher.
All 3 of those already get Reflected by Feedback/WoR. They are projectiles.
Smite = Light Field. Just a Field for combo, not a Symbol nor a Consecration.

Courier Speed movement 50% slower?

Turtle Dragon.9241

Is this every time or just a couple cases?

There is a bug where it looks like your character is running forward, but is actually backpedaling in terms of speed.

I see, so that’s what’s happening. Looks like it happens whenever i rotate my character while picking up supplies. Guess i’ll semi-circle a bit more when leaving the supply camp.

Thanks a lot.

Courier Speed movement 50% slower?

Turtle Dragon.9241

I have Supply Mastery ability maxed.

Whenever I pick up supply, i gain Courier Speed, which is supposed to make me move 50% faster. Instead, my character slows down(as in walking in slow motion) and it feels like i am moving 50% slower. This slowness persists for anywhere between 3-10 seconds, even if the Courier Speed buff is gone from my character.

This ability seems to suck for me because of this bug.
The real problem is, I cannot get rid of this ability now that I have used my wvw points in it(there is no way to reset points).

Is anyone else experiencing this bug with Courier Speed?
I have already reported this in the bugs section, I just want to know if I am the only one or if others have the issue too.

As you simply suggest: I don’t like them, and I don’t use them as I have previously stated.

Angel wings
Seraph wings (6 wings, 3 pairs)
Black wings
Burning wings
and finally, the most important of all, Moa wings.

I am getting 50% decrease in movement speed..

Half of the time this buff is applied, my character starts going slow-mo instead of faster.
Everyone else around me are moving fine on my screen, not a gfx card issue.
The slow-mo state can stay for over 10 seconds, way after the buff has disappeared.
Note: other players can see me running in Slow-mo from what they are saying.

I cannot play WvW like this, the moment i pick up supply i become a snail.

This bug did not exist before the last few patches. I think the bug started when Season1 started.

Please fix this bug, or please reset my ability points in the mean time. This is a gamebreaking bug. If i pick up supply i become a crippled(sitting) duck.

This is not acceptable for someone to practically be unable to pick up supply in WvW, you become even less useful than a naked lvl 1 character…

Time For New Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

I continue to wear the same exact armor that I had a 10 months ago, because I cannot afford the gem prices, and because exactly no armor has been added at all.

T3 Cultural Armor costs over 100g (and is rare quality, so you need 6 extra Trans Crystals for it to be at max armor)

Converting gold to gems, you can buy
100 gems = 7g (from spidy)
800 gems = 7 × 8g = 56g

To me it comes down to the same thing.
Phoenix armor = 56g
T3 Cultural armor = 119g + price of 6 transmutation crystals.

So Phoenix armor is less than half the price of T3.
So if you cannot afford Phoenix armor, then you clearly cannot afford T3 Cultural armor? But that’s an in-game armor…no gems required.

Note that you are looking at “Higher-end” armor skins here. These are armor just for looks.
(what would be called the equivalent of Elite Armor in GW1)

Would you rather they introduce an armor set at the cost of 10g apiece at a merchant?
I do not see much difference between 800 gems and 10g per armor piece.
Actually, 10g per armor piece is 4g more expensive than 800 gems.

Want me to convert it into dungeon tokens worth for you?

1380 Ascalonian Tears for the armor = 60 tokens per path = 23 AC paths.
you get 1.5g per AC path.
56g can be made by running AC in 37 AC paths.
(we exclude the 3 tokens dropped by champ bags, as well as gold dropped by monsters to make calculations easy)
Note that other dungeons also drop gold, so acquiring 56g/800gems is actually far easier than getting full AC armor in terms of time, because 3 AC paths only give 60 tokens and 1.5g each once per day, while you could do CoF1.2+HotW1+SE1.3+AC1.3+TAu.f+Arah3 for the gold reward once per day.
(those are the easiest dungeon paths). 10g+ per day right there.
1380 Ascalonian Tears at 180 tokens per day is 7-8 days of running AC all paths.
56g/800 gems by running the above dungeons can be made in 5-6 days.

Big difference? I think not.

Shenanigans and double standard…
Your problem does not lie in the gold/gem value of the armor, but rather you just dislike the idea of armor being available on the gemstore. You have a problem with those who can simply take the easy way out and throw in $10 get the armor faster than you make the 56g.

Most people are fine with others dishing out $600 for a Legendary weapon, why would they not be fine with people buying a 800 gems(56g) armor?
The armor is still on the gemstore. Take your time and make 56g, just like you would make 119g for T3 Cultural armor.

No i do not spend lots of dollars on this game either, or play RNG boxes. I farm my gold just like a lot of people to get my cool weapons/ascended stuff/legendaries, and do so efficiently.

Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

in CDI

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Living World lacks depth

Our characters and NPCs do NOT interact with each other at all.
Our main character just enters the instance, defeats the boss, the end.
When I am playing your Living World, i feel like hunk for hire.
I have no part in the story other than being the henchmen who just helps(actually does all the work) in defeating the boss, followed by me getting paid(reward).

The first reason why your LIVING World lacks depth is indeed character development(lack of).
When you LIVE something, you remember it.
When you WATCH something, you easily forget it.

I watched a movie 2 days ago, i cannot even remember the title.
I last played EotN story 2 years ago, i still remember EVERY part of it.
Take a look at how the storylines went in GW1, although they were static cutscenes. My character, was completely involved in the plot. My character would tell Gwen to calm down when she tried to kill Pyre. My character would convince the norn to help hunt down destroyers. My character was even called a Bookah. My character was involved.

The second thing where your Living World comes short is replayability. This is the case for your Personal Story as well. There is no way to re-play them on the same character, you must go on another character. The way the game is currently designed is very hostile towards making alts(i know you read feedbacks, you already know this). Some people do not understand a book the first time they read it. When they read it a second time, the whole thing makes sense. Re-reading should not be chore(it is a chore to make a new character).
Moreover, it has the biggest shortcoming of being available for ONLY 2 weeks.
When something is re-playable multiple times, people will remember it.
Take this example:
What is the name of Vekk’s Father? I am sure 90% who played EotN knows the answer.
What is the name of the leader of the Order of Whispers? Ask in chat, 90% dont know.
We played EotN story dozens of times. We played Order of Whispers storyline once.
I hope i made my point.

It feels ironic that you call it a “Living World”, where it keeps dying every 2 weeks.
GW1 story lives forever, however it is unchanging. GWBeyond was truly living for the time it lasted. What would truly make GW2 a Living World is the story that keeps on adding every 2 weeks, as well as being replayable for those who missed it, and replayable multiple times for those who want to re-live it.

I believe many of you devs follow tv-series/anime/manga. When a new chapter/episode gets released, do you see the previous chapter/episode disappear completely? Have none of you actually reread a chapter of a book or rewatched an episode of a tv series? Doesnt it seem abnormal to you for the content that you put so much work to create just disappears every 2 weeks? Neither you, nor us want this. Change it please.

Seriously though, there was once a Commander who stood still on a waypoint. No matter how much I clicked, it kept saying “Join Squad”. After 4 mins, the Commander moved and I realized something: the waypoint was contested. It had been contested all along. I could not see the cross swords on the waypoint because of the Commander icon.

So i’ll give you a costly hint. You want to waypoint, right?
Let’s say you are in Malchor’s Leap and a commander is standing on Lights Waypoint. Use any waypoint in Cursed Shores, then since you are now in another map, you will not see the commander in Malchor’s Leap. You can now use Lights Waypoint.

Mesmer Guardian

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

Obviously Mesmer Guardian > Guardian Mesmer.

Mesmer Guardians have a variety of builds, including Phantasmal Duelist inside your own Consecrations such as Hallowed Ground, and +Boon Duration on your clones to make them hit harder and last longer. There is also the Shouts on Clones build which makes Phantasmal Berzerker unstoppable because it now gets Stability and Protection. Since Shouts activate instantly, you combo very fast with very little chance for others to react.

Guardian Mesmers are very niche in that it only compensates for the lack of DPS of the Guardian only by using Time Warp, and also compensates for lack of mobility. Guardian has a very easy time applying Stability already using Stand Your Ground or Hallowed Ground, as well as removing tons of conditions, there is little point in using Mantras instead, specially since you dont have access to the trait line of your secondary profession.

Overall, neither of the combinations above are recommended compared to other combinations.

Mesmer Necros are much more powerful in terms of pure damage, having the ability to Shatter any minions, clones and phantasms. By going Mesmer Necro, you will practically always have your Shatter skills on cooldown though, so be careful when you actually use them.

Necro Mesmers are also very viable, having heavy condition damage and other conditions. Having the ability to apply Fear then Daze or Stun immediately after can keep your opponent’s skillbar locked while condition damage is ticking down. You also get access to much better escape skills(since Necro have none) by taking Blink or Decoy.

Mesmer Engineer can shatter turrets, however turrets will not run towards your opponent like clones do, but you can then ensure more predictability because you always know exactly the locations where the turrets will shatter. A good trick is to stand still and cast all your turrets around you. Your opponent cannot get into the area then, because he will die in one hit if you shatter all those turrets with Mind Wrack. They are left with using range, which means you can easily take them down too with superior ranged DPS.

Mesmer Thief definitely gets more access to Stealth, which is very very good. Getting your clones and phantasm under stealth is strong, but very difficult to use. When you use Stealth on your clones, they do not stop auto-attacking, therefore your clones get revealed. To make a Stealthed clone reach your opponent unseen, you need to activate Mind Wrack right before Stealth, thus your clones stop auto attacking(because you activated a Shatter) and then become invisible. Positioning is also very important here because you might not get all your clones inside Blinding Powder if they are too far from each other. Also, Shadow’s Refuge does NOT work with clones, as they just keep auto-attacking, or walk out of the refuge and get Revealed.
Never go Thief Mesmer. There is very little point in doing so. Stealth is better than Null Field as a Thief, and 50% movement speed while Stealthed trait is as good as using a Portal or Blink anytime. The only saving grace of going Thief Mesmer is an extra Stealth skill as your Elite, there are way better options. Time Warp and Backstab also do not get along, because any smart opponent will get out of the Time Warp are before you are able to get behind them and actually land Backstab.

If you insist on going along with Guardian, your secondary profession should be Ele. You can never go wrong with secondary Ele. Mist Form works with any profession, as well as Conjured Weapons. Guardians being very tanky can double their DPS for a short instant by using Fiery Greatsword, as well as continue to CC foes by using Lightning Hammer right after your own Guardian hammer skills are all on recharge. Ice Bow also makes a very decent substitute for the Guardian’s lack of viable range weapon.

Mesmers and Rangers can both have GS.

Mesmer, Ranger, Thief can all have Sword. Mesmers can even have 2 Swords.

Engineers can have Shields.
(please do not argue about Engineer, i know about the kits problem and i feel for you)

You can easily make a Mesmer(and a viable one too) with GS + Sw/Sw combinations.
(Please dont argue about GS sucking compared to Staff etc etc, viable =/= optimal)

As for making a viable Ranger, dont ask me.

1) Increase the effectiveness of Toughness to being survive-viable(no diminishing returns the higher you go in Toughness). If people want to die in 3 hits instead of 1, let them survive. No more 1-hit-ko bosses for people who invest in Toughness.

2) Increase the effectiveness of Healing Power to being healer-viable(healing scales very badly). If people want to pour everything into healing, let them heal.

3) Increase the effectiveness of Condition Damage to being degen-viable(conditions stack very badly). If people want to degen, let them degen.

Then increase the damage done by bosses to the point where they 1 hit anyone with no points in toughness(but those who have invested in max toughness die in 2 hits if light, 3 if medium, 4 if heavy).

Zerkers should not be affected(repeat not be affected) as Zerkers out there claims that they can dodge forever, never take a hit, and never die.
If you claim you die in 1 hit from the boss anyway, then i increase the boss’s damage, logically it should not affect you.

Right now we have:
1. Extreme high DPS zerker that survive perfectly fine too.
2. Healers are useless due to healing power scaling.
3. Tanky builds with awful(although just a little more consistent than zerker) DPS.
4. Condition builds that just stop doing anything once condition cap is reached.

This will change into:
1. Pros who can run zerker perfectly.
2. Healers who can support effectively.
3. Hybrid Tank with steady DPS who can survive longer.
4. Debuffers who can actually damage the boss.

All those stats will become viable.

My Feedback on Candy Corn

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Turtle Dragon.9241

Turtle Dragon.9241

This is my opinion, but i believe it would facilitate our “quality of life” as you devs like to call it, if there was just a little more “foresight” on the amount of mats required for exchanging.

100 Dragonite Ores = 1 Dragonite Ingot, then 5 Ingots for a Vision Crystal.
(5 × 100 = 500 Dragonite Ores for a Vision Crystal)
This is an example of good foresight. I can stock up to 250 Ores, so i never go over, and i refine them as I go into Ingots until I reach my goal of 5 for the Vision Crystal.

1000 Candy Corn = 1 Candy Corn Cob, then 20 Cobs = the mini.
(20 × 1000 = 20000 Candy Corn for the mini)
This is an example of no foresight. I can only stock up to 250 Candy Corn in my mats bank, therefore I need to stock up 3 extra different stacks in my bank slots(for a total of 4) until i reach 1000 to exchange them into 1 Candy Corn Cob.

How this should have been:
100 Candy Corn = 1 Candy Corn Cob, then 200 Cobs = the mini.
(200 × 100 = 20000 Candy Corn for the mini)
This comes down to the exact same amount of Corn(also add a 0 behind any item requiring Cobs such as weapons) as the above, with the exception that I can exchange into a Cob every 100 Corns and thus I can stock up to 250 Corns in my bank easily.

You could even make it 250 Corns = 1 Cob then 80 Cobs = the mini.
(80 × 250 = 20000 Candy Corn for the mini)

If your stack cannot go above 250, please dont as us to exchange more than that to store the finish product. Instead, increase the other side’s requirement.

Edit: As Eroiqua posted below, you cannot order more than 250 Corns at a time on the Trading Post, so we need 4 orders per Cob.

Just my 2 cents. Thank you.

This post will probably get deleted because it advises people to not buy gems if they are not going to spend them.

A buddy of mine bought me a 2000 ($25) Gem Card from a store. He doesn’t play computer games (just console games), but he knew I liked the game so he bought me the card as a birthday gift.

I know it is too late now for you, but is there an expiry date on the gem card?
Just so we know if i am planning to gift those to someone in the future.

So from this point forward, everybody who personally attacks a member of the studio will get an immediate 2 week forum suspension on the first violation. Any further attack on studio members will result in a permanent termination of your posting rights.

Do not use Hundred Blades on anyone who has the Arenanet-Logo-Tag in WvW!
You will get 2 week suspension.

Why doesnt Arenanet just make themselves invincible, instead of us having to watch where our Hundred Blades lands? What’s worse is I cant control my pet attacking devs in wvw…If my pet attacks you, and you designed the AI, that means that you attacked yourself, I should not be forum banned for my pet attacking you in-game.

I encourage everyone to start playing Warrior or Thief in WvW. They have no pets. Or use any builds for other classes that do not include pets.

What happens if i am in the middle of using Hundred Blades and a dev just walks into it?

I will stop to WvW until devs dont play it anymore, I dont want to be banned. I suggest you all do so too.

So i have been rather skeptical about GW2 at first, mainly because i’m not so much into mmo’s i guess. I tried WoW and it didn’t get to me, i tried SWTOR – and apart from the story missions it was boring as hell, i tried Tera and apart from being pretty it looked like a manequin – fancy clothes on the outside, stale plastic on the inside.

Some time ago, a couple of my friends started playing GW2 and their impressions were something like “omfg this is the best mmo ever made, you have to try it pronto!”. As i said, i was skeptical at first, but as time passed i became more and more interested until finally yesterday i purchased it.

First of all i would like to say that the download speed for the client is just ridiculously low(my ips provides a connection of average 100 – 200 mbit/s), but as i was at work while it downloaded, i guess it’s not a big problem anyway.

And then there was the moment of character creation..and then there were the first quests in the Norn homeland, and then my friends joined and their high levels downscaled so we could play together…public events, inventory & craft system, story, jumping sections, vistas, questing, leveling..sorry, i’m just so overwhelmed by all of this that my overexcited emotions can’t be put on a hold.

The base line – At this moment this game is the best massive multiplayer experience i have ever been part of, and the fact that i’ve just scratched the surface, in my opinion, makes it one of the best gaming experiences i have had this year(which has been rather dissapointing in the case of PC gaming, at least for me).

Thank you Arena.net!Keep up the good work!

I take a loaf of bread and spread jam on it.
I take a log of wood and spread jam on it.
I then start licking the jam off both.
The jam tastes the same.

Let me tell you that:
“Scratching the surface of GW2” is the same as “licking the jam off the log of wood”. The jam/surface is good. You can guess what happens after you bite in.

What dragons? What threat? The dragons have done nothing but fall asleep again for a year. They only send down their minions once in a while.

Their minions are also extremely lazy.
Tequatl: Hello, i only have 15 minutes to play with you. Wait, there’s nobody here…
Shatterer: I like it when you just stand on the hill beside me, press 1 and go eat lunch.
Claw: I can stay for 15 minutes more than them, but you have to feed me golems.

There are no dragons in this game, no threats, nothing. It is all in your head.

You are doing it wrong. Solution: gems > gold.

A couple hundred dollars this way.
And there’s your precursor.

A couple thousand dollars this way.
And there’s your legendary.

You dont even need to actually play the game to get either. It would take me 5 minutes to get a Legendary. Nobody will know that you threw in some dollars…or rather everybody already knows but agree that it’s okay.

Looking at your situation, you are very very close to it, right? So it would be around $20 to get the edge on inflation. You will forget about the $20 once you have your Legendary, because you will be happy. $20 to remove all your frustration, hate, depression and future heart problems is a real opportunity than should not be missed.

-snip-

The dead zerker will be doing more DPS than the other players.

Case in point, I did Arah story recently, we got to the mouth of zhaitan after killing the three AA turrets (btw haven’t done this fight in months so couldn’t remember a thing) and I spammed a basic DPS rotation and evaded all of the obvious attacks. At one point I didn’t time my dodge fast enough and downed. Nobody res’d me and I died, but I’m pretty sure I had almost solo’d the boss’s HP down to 25% because the last 25% of HP went down excruciatingly slow.

If all 5 of you were running zerker and didn’t time their dodge fast enough and downed, nobody would res anybody, all of you would be dead, the boss would regenerate the 75% of its HP you took from it and nobody in your group did any damage at all. Therefore in that scenario, your DPS = 0. Then the lot of your would pay armor repairs and run back, and start rage quitting on the 2nd time this happens. That last 25%, excruciatingly slow bad DPS that took down the boss is what saved the day.

And dont say that doesnt happen that all 5 of you zerkers go down at the same time, a single AoE blow can 1hit the lot of 5 glass cannons stacking.

True though that 5 people doing 75% of the boss’s HP worth would have killed that boss 4 times over a long time ago, however you are not safe from an early AoE blow that just wipes your whole zerker party.

Yes, I have seen 4 noob zerkers wipe themselves the moment Slavedriver of CoF1 turned red-name, and i had to finish the boss solo. Know what else happened? They asked me to wipe. So i should kill myself and pay armor repairs because you cannot run your build right?

At the end of the day, fight experience and good internet(those who dodge the boss correctly) is all that matters to run Zerker right.

The best advice when running zerker, is to have a Warrior ready to drop Battle Standard on you the moment you go down.
Seriously, dont run support Guardians, just get a Warrior with Battle Standard.
Battle Standard alone is better support than any full support, Guardian or not, build anyone can run.

Zerker done right is the best. Zerker done wrong wipes and resets the boss.

The only profession combination i cannot accept in a team is “2 staff necros”.
1 staff necro is fine. 2 is not.
Refuse to have 2 staff necros on the team, one of them must re-roll.

Think of everyone in team running condition builds that completely overlap each other…a complete nightmare. Feels like a team with almost 0 dps waiting for conditions to tick on the boss one second at a time, and the ticking is very weak too…a 10 mins dungeon becomes 50 mins.

Conditions should be uncapped for PvE, or capped at 25 stacks per player. Each player’s poison/burning should tick separately on the boss too, instead of waiting for someone’s poison to finish ticking for yours to start.

The Current Trait System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

So, you’re saying that if I want to be a raw damage character, I should be restricted to even less than less than a third of possible traits?

The idea is you can deal damage but in the form of raw damage leads to stale and boring gameplay.

What would you rather have as an Elementalist?
-Gain Might every time you cast a spell while attuned to fire.
or
-When you attune to fire, summon a Lesser Fire Elemental at your location. The Fire Elemental goes away if you are not attuned to fire.

There are TONS of ways to deal damage that is not raw. I can pretty much revamp the entire trait system to affect damage output and input that is not raw.

All it takes is thinking outside the box.

I would take the might on spell while attuned to fire.
The AI of minions has proven to be just plain bad so far. Might on spell is a much more controllable benefit compared to an AI that attacks/aggroes something i dont want, dies really fast by running into the enemy mob and is instantly banished the moment i enter underwater combat.

I do agree though with thinking outside the box. Every skill in GW1 had its own unique effect, you cannot find any skill that can replace something such as Shame, Diversion or Blackout. So you have a variety of different “cards” to choose, or deal against.

GW2 on the other hand, only has a specific set of possible effect, which skills can apply. Practically all skills that involve defense will provide protection which is 33% reduction in damage, with different durations and recharges. It is the same “card”, the only thing that changes is how long it remains in play.

Review/ Is Guild Wars 2 "In Good Hands"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

Any game that contains “for a limited time only” for any item skins or stats is not in good hands. It means that there is a person in charge who has absolutely no respect for what the playerbase might want. That person is ready to sacrifice permanent addition of content (item skins/stats) for the sake of money.

Get it now, or never again. Get it now, even for a character that you have not created yet, as it wont be available later on. I was supposed to know that it would look good on the next alt i make, before making the alt.

The bad part, i would have bought the item skin after i made my new alt, so the company is making less money than they should, because they made one less sale here(and a lot less sales elsewhere).

The worst part, some items(karka weapons) are account bound behind RNG boxes. Which means I have to gamble through RNG boxes, and cannot even buy one on TP. Luckily, those weapons are ugly enough to pass over.

If those special backpacks could simply be available again on next year’s release, along with new special backpacks, newcomers to the game would be very happy. Right now, all you can tell your friends is “those skins are gone, since you did not join the game yet at that time, you will never get them. Ever. Too bad so sad.”

That’s a big turn-off for new players(friends you invite to the game), which chains into them not joining the game, which leads them to other games, to which they pull you over. Therefore you lose both the new players, the old players, and the sales from both new and old players. Or just give the 1 skin available as reward during the 2 weeks of the event, then put the item on the gemstore for those who missed it.

Do you know how many sales you would make off of those? And all you are doing is good and easy. Putting a skin that’s already in the game is easy, available for those who missed it is good, in the gemstore is money.

Ascended proves Effort, NOT Legendaries.

So i guess the answer to this debate is:

Both Legendaries and Ascended Items are obtainable through effortless luck/buying, but it’s just easier to prove you put effort into making an Ascended due to it’s Account Bound mats and unavailability of the item itself on the TP.

Exactly that. A Legendary takes as much effort as a Commander title.
And it should not be that way.

Having an Ascended weapon(maxed weapons) is equal to “played the game”.

Turtle Dragon.9241

It is what actually takes effort.

Ascended is just a grind, same as legendary except ascended is much easier to obtain.

That picture is great.

And a mini Liadri tells everyone who’s boss. An Ascended weapon is way under that, but a Legendary is even lower due to the credit card. That’s my point.

On an Effort scale of 1 to 10, Mini Liadri would be 10, Ascended would be 1(or 0.5 if you want, i dont care), and Legendary would be 0.

Shouldn’t Legendaries inspire more respect in game rather than be called credit card owners?
Maybe make the incoming set of Legendaries that they are going to create “Account Bound” so we can show that we made the Effort? Right now every rich kid who have 10 minutes playtime have a Legendary.

And the “being 80” thing to equip the weapon, i dont buy that.
Credit card > mats > max all 8 crafting > level 80 = 0 effort.

All of these require playing the game to get. Getting an ascended weapon drop also requires playing the game to get. Getting a Legendary does not.

Farming CoF = Playing the game.
Farming Shatterer = Playing the game.
Getting an Ascended Weapon drop = Playing the game.
Pulling out credit card = Not playing the game.

Therefore, no matter how little or pointless the Effort of getting an Ascended weapon is, it is greater than the Effort of getting a Legendary, simply because it involves playing the game.

You can be in the right place at the right time, place one hit on Tequatl and get it. I would argue that if you decided to get a legendary with a credit card it’s so much more effort, because you spend months in a work place 9 to 5 just to save up the money. Also you can’t equip a legendary unless you’re level 80, so you’ll still have to play the game. The fact that you could have hit tequatl once as a level 60 and got an ascended means that you could have put just as much effort for both.
I’m going to call troll post on this one.

Hitting Tequatl once > Your Legendary.

Whatever else you do outside of the game, be it winning the Lottery or becoming King of Burger Kings to pay for the Legendary does not concern GW2.

Isnt it time Arenanet changes that?

I’m disappointed as well that you can simply buy your legendary with real life money.

Have fun spending 1k $ for a skin.

I did my legendary by hard work, 0 luck and im close to make second one (just need pre)

I had to farm cof p1 like mad – for pre
I had to farm karma in orr – for shards
I had to do wvw for badgets – i actually did that in solo roaming, not by jp and i had a lot of fun.
I had to make 100% map

Rest gold/mats i needed came from farming karma in orr

Sorry but i don’t see how ascended takes more effort.

Proof of your hard work? Looks like that $1k came in somewhere…
See? No proof.

I dont hate Legendaries, I am just saying that Legendaries should really feel Legendary. and they dont. Whatever Effort you actually did in game to acquire your Legendary is worth as much Effort as the one who whipped out that credit card to gems > gold then buy it off TP. Your hard work Legendary is worth as much as a credit card Legendary. Ascended items, on the other hand, require a bit of Effort on the part of the account owner.
(I will not discuss Ownership change as I do not want to be infracted)

Its require a “bit of effort” as buying mats off tp:

-Dragonite > shatter+golem mark daily is enough to to get it if u dont rush. 0 effort, just sit in zerk, target it once and enjoy autoattack

-Empyreal > again just do daily cof p1+2, the easier paths ingame. Once again 0 effort

-Bloodstone > join champion train, actually easier and faster item to take.

Thats all about the hard work for ascended. Its all about gold, and farming in zerks.

Btw prove me that ur ascended weapon comes from crafting, not from a drop.

All of these require playing the game to get. Getting an ascended weapon drop also requires playing the game to get. Getting a Legendary does not.

Sounds like someone is trying too hard…

Glad you like your ascended weapon. Running Champ trains in FGS for dust, lame world bosses for ore, and CoF for empyreals is exactly impressive either. No matter how everyone got their legendaries, they still look cooler than ascended weapons.

You are correct. Legendaries do “look” cooler. However, looks have absolutely nothing to do with effort. Therefore we are both correct.

Legendaries might as well be a simple very expensive skin in the gemstore like the Zodiac sets, but have max switchable stats(an implied pay2win statement).

You need not do WvW, Dungeons, nor Jumping Puzzles for Empyreal Fragments. But, you do have to, at least, run around the starter zones. =P (They drop from those tiny chests. Lol.)

Correct as well. But the above remains true,
Ascended weapons imply someone played the game, regardless if it is making the effort to run around in starter zones opening chests, that still counts as playing the game.

Turtle Dragon.9241

Let’s start by saying that any item can require any amount of Effort that you wish to impose on yourself to buy it.

If I decide to impose the rule of earning only 1 silver per day, even something simple as getting an Orichalcum Mining Pick would take me 4 days to acquire.

Therefore, the “grind” is self-imposed for many items, unless imposed by the game such as time-gated currency/materials.

Effort = the MINIMUM work required to guarantee obtaining an item.
Edit: Exclude Luck.

Obtaining a Legendary, or any skin that can be placed on the Trading Post for that matter, has an actual worth of 0 Effort, given that “credit card this way” is the
“least amount of effort required to obtain a Legendary”.

Someone who just started the game can acquire a Legendary within less than 10 minutes if they wanted to. I know of at least 3 people who simply bought gems to acquire their Legendary, 2 of which do not even have Map Completion.

Not to discuss Legendaries obtained by “miraculously receiving one through the mail”.
(Everyone knows what that means)

If you decided to grind your way to obtaining gold in-game through Legendaries, then it falls under the same category as obtaining 1silver per day for an Orichalcum Mining Pick above. (The grind is self-imposed, not necessary to acquire the item)

Obtaining an Ascended Weapon, requires Ascended materials. Given that Deldrimor/Elonian/Spiritwood can be acquired on TP, We are going to assume 0 Effort for these, as well as 0 Effort for making 500 in any Crafting Profession.
(Gems > Gold > Mats > Crafting 500).
What Ascended Weapons require, that are not tradable and require Effort, are Dragonite Ingots and Empyreal Stars, as well as Bloodstone Bricks. None of these items can be acquired without actually playing the game.
Dragonite Ingots require a mixture of World Bosses/WvW. ~17 World Bosses.
Empyreal Fragments require a mixture of Dungeons/JP/WvW. ~20 Dungeon Paths.
Bloodstone Bricks still requires Champion Loot Bags, which implies killing Champions, even though it is so abundant we start throwing it away.

Therefore, having one Ascended weapon proves that the player made the Effort(played the game) for it.

Each Ascended weapon says the following about the player:
The player killed ~17 World Bosses worth of Dragonite Ingots, ~20 Dungeon Paths worth of Empyreal Fragments, or the player is a JP Pro/WvW Pro.
(Going to exclude Bloodstone Bricks math here, but it is also relevant)

Having multiple Ascended weapons multiples this amount of Effort.
(it is cummulative).

tl;dr
Legendary = Legendary credit card
Ascended = Actually played the game

For those who actually acquired a Legendary by getting their precusors, World completion etc etc, you have NO proof that the item did not come from TP, was mailed to you from “someone outside” or that you made any kind of Effort to acquire the item.
For those who actually acquired an Ascended Weapon, you have earned it.

Same concept applies to titles,
Fish Slayer > The Emperor’s New Wardrobe.

Please dont feel offended if you crafted a Legendary. You know in your heart that you made the effort, even though everyone around is just saying that your credit card is shiny.
