Staff would work fine, just depends on your team comp and how you run the map.
exactly! many ppl have this misconception that staff thief can not duel like dp cant. Actually it can duel everything and win.
Condi mes loses to water engie and zerk dh. There are counters out there. This game becomes rock paper scissors.
I find it kitten that shattered clones still atack even tho their shatter atack was evaded. Very annoying for a thief.

oh poor bluri! How can he know how powerful staff is, if he never played it nor saw true master of staff. How delusional he must be to deny huge dps and dueling capabilities to staff?
Duel vs dh is impossible for thief, but here is best possible begining in theory.
1. Pistol daze two times dh.
2. run into stability trap.
3. dodge into dh cheching for traps. Dodge out and stealth if there are traps.
4. autoatack dh.
Oh boy. Ppl say staff can not fulfill the role of dp. I highly disagree. It can do everything dp can (exept stelath) and so much more! Staff has even better mobility thx to much better endurance regeneration. It can +1, it can duel, it can teamfight. Obviusly staff is has much different skills so it must be different.

Why is it not a good +1 you ask? Simple, you run bound(makes you slow way too slow) and you have no stealth on demand it makes enemy counter rotations/knowing where you move all the time and that means you cannot do anything.
But staff can work with dash instead of bound. Actually i find superior to bound. Staff might not be better +1 because it lacks stealth, but i suspect pros know where enemy thief is thx to communication or simple map awarness. Also staff has much better mobility thx to staff trait which is like super vigor giving much more dodges. At least on paper.
Anyway i hope ppl explore staff a little bit more.
All thief needs is dmg reduction from dash stacking in time. Also value should be increased fomr 10% dmg reduction to 20%.
Yesterday one could hear during Sin stream that dp thief is the only option in high lvl pvp. It seems that the subject values stealth a lot, so staff is not an option. Let me tell you, dp is not the only option.
First of all u can equip other weapons if u have them in your inventory.
Secondly, staff is very strong weapon, possibly the best option when mastered. It does not give stealth in normal build, nor interrupts (no “pulmonary impact dmg”), however it gives another options.
Staff thief is good duelist and teamfighter: insane Aoe, evade frames, leap finisher and access to bandit defense. All of that can wipe enemy team within seconds. Here is extra option for staff, that dp does not have. Staff can take part in teamfights. There is one exellent strat vs dp thief, masterfully performed by plebseth team in finals. Team leaves all points decapped and focuses only on teamfights, rendering thief useless. Dp can not decap or +1 so all it can do is afk.
Staff can duel more enemies. Not only power rev, but also every other class (maybe exept dh).Dp is not the one and only option for high lvl pvp. Staff can teamfight. Staff is life, staff is love, but dont forget about pp!
thief is very weak in pvp duels.
Not because they dont stand a chance. It is because they can not stand on point while dueling effectivli losing point. Even if they win, it usually takes a long time so it is not worth it. Point was ticking for enemy for 2 min.
Also rangers, guards and mesmers are autowin vs thief.
In addition to being weak duelist, thief is also bad in teamfights. All of this makes thief very weak in pvp. Better switch to something else.
Why would u nerf something that has no positive impact on winning game in capture mode?
all enemy has to do is to let all poits be decapped and win all the teamfights, because thief is no good in those.
guar is autowin vs melee thief. try pistol pistol. pp autowins vs guard.
All defensive abilities only last so long. All u have to do is w8. Ranger signet is most annoying becuase u have to afk for a very long time if u dont have second target. Still all u have to do is afk.

Condie thief has no mobility exept steal so just run away and shoot from the distance.
healing amul and killig with pet. gg. Ppl dont realize it, but druid was greatly buffed if u play healing amu.
too late. next patch is may 2017.
author is not aware mobility does not matter in pvp. Look at finals with astral. They lost because enemy focused on teamfights near one point leaving all other poits decapped by thief. Thief is o good in teamfight so astral lost.
good patch but i think devs are goin too slow on the balance. Look t blizard. if they nerf something they make it unplayable. For example look some heartstone cards.
Nice nerfs, but very disappointed for no thief buff. Plz, make tp trap mesmer tp next time.
I think devs hope the nerfs are enugh to bring back thief but i dont think they are enough. Rev and dh changes are too conservtive and feel untouched so thief still no good i pvp.

thief is no good in pvp, because thief has big mobility but weak duel capabilities. Pvp is all about fighting on point so thief is no good. Better learn rev or war.
I dont know man. Peasant plebseth seems to like powerfull condi war in pvp. Drazeh lso owning ppl as a war.
feels bad man. U ll suck untill u learn by trial what to dodge. u gotta learn every skill from the enemy. Not only tooltips but also all animations on all races. Even smallest asura. Better switch to rev and win all games.
it was very good els. one of the best. Interesting that meta went into train weakest enemy (necro), instead of 3 point duels. Is it because mesmer and druid have too much mobility?
Another argument for thief being trash. Astral used thief and lost 3:1 so they go home.
Totally agree that thief is weak class. Even if mastered, thief is medicore at best. I main thief from the begining, but it was unplayable before rev nerf, it is unplayable now because of dh.
I hope they add another +50% autoatack dmg. Otherwise i have to take a break after few games on symbol guard.

thief is trash in pvp, unless u are a pro. if pro it is still medicore. Change class. There is no pvp thief build in metabattle bro, because its weak.
Add plz downstate penelty. If downed player is rezzed, he has -10% hp stakcing up to -90% until death,
interesting changes, but they are not impactful.
All thief needs if true teleport on shawdow trap. And maybe +10% on all autoatack dmg.
ye i would rather not have sneak atack on shortbow than have 2 sec cooldown.
First of all thief is weak duelsit.
Secodnly thief is very hard to play and learn.
Thirdly u must play decap and +1 all game long.

General consensus is that thief is trash in pvp, so nobody plays it in pro league, so u are right when u feel inferior to other classes.
I hate when my cursor disappears when i change camera angle. Pros gonna have use third party tool to always show cursow.

its fine boy. U won more games vs premades than lost. U shuld ask for more premades.
Shortbow’s autoatack cooldown is so bad for thief! Inability to do anything is crazy and unnatural. Why not enable normal autoatack when sneak atack is on cooldown?
increase your skill. And learn second class, dh, ranger or engie to switch and win easy

vollun played pvp with pp with some success but no traps. instead he used normal traits with bound dodge. look him up on twqitch
- u can avoid thief pulmonary’s dmg by jumping
- u can spawn faster when downed if u relog. remember to preload shaders on that char
staff is best in pve. even if u have always full vuln, voult combo or 2 is best dps
If u jump u can avoid pulmonary impact dmg.
- pulmonary impact deals no dmg when target is in air
- steal can not be used during voult animation
- dh spear pull while dash dodhe is making thief fly really high if there is higher ground on the path.

There is also one more issue. Early legend players have 1h que because system is not allowing diamonds. There could be an exeption to allow highest diamonds to play with legends.
i want normal atack if sneak atackgoes on cooldown.
