So you want the item prices to keep going up and you want to make less money to buy the items?

I don’t recall saying that at all.

Prices only go up to a point which people are willing to pay. It is called a relative value.

If you flood the market with gold you inflate prices to unobtainable levels for new players. While it might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside seeing big numbers it ruins the game.

The cost of crafting materials should always be less than the items they create. It wasn’t like that before.

I never said anything about flooding the market with gold. And its already to the point where is hard for new players to buy items. Anyone trying to buy exotic’s at level 80 today is going to have a very hard time.

no their not, exotics are easy, from lvl1 to lvl80 you gather nodes, ore, plant, trees whatever and you sell it, you will easily get more than enough to buy a full exotic set, so please don’t spout you bullkitten.

Kind of hard to sell materials on the trading post when most of them are the same price or less then a vendor would give you. Or did you not bother check that?

Use those materials to craft your own exotics, or use karma to purchase them. Gold really is a minor currency in the overall scheme in this game. You can have millions of gold and still be unable to buy the Orrian exotics.

I have 530k karma the Orr exotics are junk for a necro.

Oh… you’re one of those people that thinks they need to specialize into certain builds, aren’t you?

I’m using pretty much no more than one piece per vendor in addition to balancing my traits across multiple lines rather than fill a couple to 30. So far there’s nothing I can’t handle being balanced. (Mesmer, btw)

So no, the Orr exotics aren’t junk, you’ve just convinced yourself that they are. In that case, people can still craft exotics quite fine using nominal amounts of gold. You haven’t changed the fact that gold is only one currency in the game, and not the most important one at that.

My necro destroys, so I guess my build must be working!

Based on your evident skill at dodging I’m inclined to believe you.

For give me I was wrong I forgot about all the massive damage healing power gives…….

Dodging of the fact that gold is at best a secondary currency in this game and that it’s not difficult to be decked out in full exotics without having to spend much, if any, at all. As long as you have enough for travel and repairs there’s no limitations that are placed on you for not having a ton of gold.

Oh, and there’s more than damage in this game.

DId you even read my first post? Go back to the first page, I said you can make enough gold to buy what you need but you will never be wealthy or rich.

You’re doing an impressive job at missing the point. You could have a million gold, but you still wouldn’t be wealthy or rich. Gold is only one of many currencies in this game, and certainly not the most important.

Where are the side quests?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Pretty much what everyone else here is saying.

Personal story is your own story on the road to facing Zhaitan.

Renown Hearts are local tasks intended to give people that habitually need a dude with a “!” over his head at a quest hub a place to focus on for things to do.

Dynamic events are the real bread and butter. These are the full on quest replacements that are scattered throughout the maps, often well away from the hearts. To really appreciate the “side quests” aspect of them, stick around an event after it concludes and see how it chains out. I was at one outpost yesterday and stumbled onto an event to protect them from thieving Hyleks. What I didn’t realize at the moment was that that was the start of the “Rikitti” (did I spell that right?) chain, with three more events directly chaining from this one. I was playing with my daughter, it was her first time seeing that chain, we had a blast.

I like it when a huge group of people take 15min and several deaths to kill a champ, I loot and get a white worth 30c.

That. Is. Pathetic.

Just sayin’.

Now, here’s the thing there OP… if it were possible to make millions of gold rapidly soon everyone would be doing it and gold would be worthless. Who cares if you have a million gold if everyone else does as well? The economy appears to be designed such that gold retains its value over time. Personally, only for a short period of time have I been over 2g on my main. I usually hover between 1g and 2g. For me, 10g would be a bonanza, yet I’m also not sweating the issue of money. I have enough. I have exotics (almost full, not yet…) which I’ve purchased with karma or crafted. I have enough for repairs and travel. I buy siege equipment now and then and use them. I’m also taking my time with things instead of going on an insane drive for more and more shinies.

Wait… now I understand what’s going on! OP is actually a skritt that got internet access! (Maybe?)

We do have a combat timer that prevents players from logging out or using a rally point. I’ll check into making sure this timer is getting applied to players in a down state as well.

There may need to be a check to see what happens if someone simply “X’s” out of the game when they go down as well.

Water gate was FINE. No way I am going to bother wasting my time to prove it to the JQ forum warriors; screen shots will prove nothing. Only a full out fraps vid will do that, but I didn’t have it up. Me and a few others on HoD do know they had to cheat to kill a couple crappy siege weapons.

Sad and pathetic.

Whatever. Continue to support your cheaters Coldviper. At least we know where you stand now.

Fixit, I’m on JQ and I’m not doubting you for a second. I can say, though, that the core of the WvW community here, those on TS and really trying to do it right, do not in any way condone such actions and even the mere mention of something that sounds like hacking or even simply insulting others on TS are immediately called out. It’s not to be tolerated. I hope you were able to report them and you can be sure that we’ll be reporting people even on our own server if we catch them cheating like that.

It’s going to suck if a few cheats immigrate to our server and tarnish what we’ve set out to accomplish. I’m not afraid to eat my own to keep that from happening.

What would you think of ultra-rare drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Nothing game-changing or game-breaking, of course, but say for example if the Claw of Jormag dropped an ultra-rare bag, say “Jormag’s Frozen Sack” that was a 24 slot container, or perhaps an item like “Frozen Skin of the Dragon” which would work like a one-time t-stone, changing the appearance of an armor item to something unique. Imagine something like a one in a thousand (or greater, actually) chance for them to drop if you have gold participation and they’d be account bound to minimize the draw to botters (can’t sell).

Would this, in your various opinions, enhance or detract from the game (or simply add nothing at all)?

I think personally it would add a little something extra. Everyone likes those rare moments when you beat the odds so to speak, and keeping them account bound would prevent any economic impact.

Why I Think GW2 Will Not Stand the Test of Time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

I’m going to cut a little snippet out of the middle.

This system was changed in Guild Wars 2 to allow mineral veins to be used by anyone who happened across them, not disappearing but simply waiting in everyone’s own instance of the game, for the user to come across and harvest. Whether players are conscious of this or not, this cheapens the experience.

This belongs in the kittens litterbox. You’re trying to pass off as fact an opinion, and nothing more. I, for one, like the shared nodes. What that means is if I’m on my way to mine and I see someone that could use a hand, even if they’re going for the same node, I can and do jump in and lend a hand. With the direct competition element removed from PvE it’s becoming second nature to help out rather than hinder. I help you, we both work towards the node, we both are rewarded for teamwork and more often than not will stay loosely grouped as we gather more nodes and tear down foes in the way.

Whether you’re concious of this or not, it enhances at least my experience and I assume that of the person now working with me towards common goals.

Once in awhile I’ll have issues with a thief that seems to be attacking from cloak… don’t know if that’s a skill or rendering issue, but the vast majority of times I’m the one collecting the loot bag.

I have to admit on my mesmer none of these have been issues. I tend, however, to run a balanced build and more often than not will have Arcane Thievery, Null Field and that projectile bubble you cast on foes as utilities, which for me make a difference.

I guess… well, if you don’t have some degree of balance, condition removals, etc. then maybe it’s time to consider your build and see if you can change it to match the environment rather than seek to have the environment changed to match your build?

Seriously, though, not at all. There’s nothing in the shop that “requires” me to have it and have it now, and I’m making gold in game that exceeds the pace I’m spending it. Sometimes I run a little low, but then I relax, stop buying materials off the TP and go farm my own, or run some events, push my story, etc. I swear I haven’t seen a less intrusive cash shop in a game yet.

If Xfire can be used as proof of GW2’s decline, it can by extension be used as proof that more people play GW2 than WoW?

Sure but that won’t be the case with MOP launching and TOR going F2P mixed in with good old fashion father time.

GW2 (unless you’re a completionist) has very little end-game and by the time I got to 80 I was already burned out with nothing to currently look forward too. I really miss the carrot on a stick even as someone who spouted that he was tired of the whole thing.

Keeping phantasms is better than shattering, how do you know?

in Mesmer

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

I’m wondering what people are using to determine that not using a rotation that shatters their phantasms is more DPS than shattering them. I see people throwing this around a lot, saying that it’s pointless to shatter (specifically mindwrack) if they have a bunch of phantasm’s up because the phantasm’s will output more DPS than shattering.

Is this conclusion perceived or is there hard data supporting this conclusion? While I can understand people saying “it’s obvious to anyone with a brain that this is the way it works”, unfortunately my brain works better when it has supporting evidence to look at before it reaches a conclusion.

It’s never pointless to shatter, and you want your share of clones up. Clones don’t get enough credit for what they can do. Mine cripple the foe on shatter, apply a random condition, and apply vigor to allies. They can interrupt, they can cause damage when the foe uses their skills, they can flat out do some additional damage or they can prevent me from taking damage for a few seconds. Nah, screw max dps. Trait them puppies to be highly versatile and you’ll create these lovely little bundles of chaos and havoc. It’s fun popping them like popcorn and really taking advantage of all they offer.

No Mounts?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

There is a way to add mounts without gutting the heart and soul of the game.

1. Mounts move at the same speed as dolyak caravans in WvW. i.e., they can actually be outrun by players. They’re for show, not convenience.
2. Mounts have terrain restrictions and cannot jump. There should never be dolyaks doing jumping puzzles.
3. Mounts may get a speed boost on roads only… debatable.
4. Mounts should never be allowed in the capitals or within any city, town or outpost walls. We don’t want dolyak poop on our streets, do we?
5. There should never be mounts that don’t make sense, nor should there ever be flying mounts. No dragons, no corrupted this or that. Dolyaks, travel golems, things of this nature could fit, but riding a minion of Zhaitan… no.

Restrictions like this could make mounts entirely tolerable. Me? I’d grab a dolyak mount in a heartbeat simply because they’re adorable with those big, soulfull eyes… sigh… but they should be for show, not for convenience or clutter.

Edit note: I’m quite happy without mounts, just thinking of a viable way they could be implemented without screwing things up (in my opinion).

I fixed this same error a couple days ago. Look at the full error log, you’ll see at the very bottom it mentions a LOCAL.DAT file. That file is corrupted. Rename/delete that file and try again… it worked for me.

(Fatal disk error 1117)

Note: On Windows 7 this will not be in the same folder your GW2 is set up in.
