Not sure how much this will help, but if devs need a timestamp, it was 12:55am Oct 27 PST (pacific standard time). Was in the SW keep and chat blew up with orb on the move and how is it moving when east keep had no breach and we had commanders in the area. Looked up my map and took that shot, but the time I went out to type then back to map it was in the garrison. Would say 5-10sec flight time and did see it fly fast while map was up.

To people doubting, how many times has an orb been taken with multiple commanders in the area and the chase not even being close. There was activity going on close to the keep’s north west gate and got away no problem. Sure those people in the area can add to it, was said there was no breach they were close to the keep and recently walls and gates were checked.

Yet another orb magically flying to BlackGate. I think it’s time to disable orbs until the hacks can be taken care of.

What happened to the guys that showed up at the match start? The Halloween event. Though not sure where they all ran off to at this point, think we would have gotten them back by now. But yeah, we are running outmanned on every BL and EB is the only place we aren’t (hence the only place we have anything)

Honestly it looks like SBI took off for the event and came back, JQ skipped the event at the start and is doing it now, and we (Ioj) just never came back from the event for some reason.

You know… that could have had a definite impact. Even when in a zerg group I see plenty of candy corn stops along the way. It’ll be interesting to see the next couple weeks, whether servers are better focused, whether they fight for themselves and all that.

CG, which map was that? I’ve been on IoJ borderlands and hadn’t seen that.

I have to admit… that would have been hilarious to be on the delivering end of. There was a moment yesterday when IoJ was trying yet again to take our tower right outside spawn, they had a ton of siege set up not only on sentry island but out in the field as well. A quick treb in the tower had similar results to what you describe, so I understand the satisfactory feeling there. I manned the treb, so admittedly there’s a bias in the “fun” category.

Still, so much time and effort onto one tower by IoJ when they could have swung north and claimed multiple spots while SBI was smashing their faces into Bay… seems like a ton of wasted opportunities and settling for third. What happened to the guys that showed up the first few days when everything was swinging back and forth and the lead changed between all three servers continually? THAT was some epic fighting. Then IoJ appeared to roll over and give it all to SBI. Very sad.

I love how the minute JQ starts losing, they accuse IoJ of being lapdogs, and that we’re 2v1 against them.

NEWS FLASH!!

It’s a 3 way fight. there will always seem like a 2v1 going on, as has been stated since the beginning of WvW. not this week. the beginning of wvw. It’s also been said that to accuse servers of 2v1 is poor sportsmanship, that shows you are a sore loser. Suck it up, you lost. It was a great week of battles, and if that’s not good enough for you, if you HAVE to win, go play a different game. This one is obviously not for you.

JG to all 3 servers this week! Very proud of IoJ for standing up to the “big dogs” and showing them we belong in t1. JQ and SBI, you guys are fantastic opponents and i look forward to seeing you on the battlefield again, should i ever decide to log in again.

IoJ guy I take it? Wow, they really have you thinking you did well by riding their coattails? You all have missed so many opportunities for points that you could have made a real fight for second. It’s staggering that you’d settle for so little when you could have done so much better. Well, one last day to show that you haven’t been fully de-fanged… get out there and fight! Surely you can do better than hiding in one corner of the map spawn camping if you really belong in T1.

Please. I’ve seen IoJ waste so many opportunities to run around behind SBI and grab stuff, instead they camp spawn or the like while SBI focuses their entire force on Bay for example. That’s why I say lapdogs. They were told to sit, stay, and have been doing exactly that. How SBI pulled that off is indeed impressive. Maybe promises they can haz candy corn? I don’t know, but that’s some serious politics, especially if they’ve fooled IoJ into thinking it’s actually in their best interests to settle for third.

I’ve heard this opinion brought up in Teamspeak, and I agree with it… if WvW goes to two week long battles it may be too much, too long. Right now, a week is feeling about right. Yet, not including this weeks great matchup (JQ/SBI/IoJ), I’ve seen matches decided and practically over after the weekend ended. Shorter than a week is too quick I feel though… the burnout from the 24hr matches was being felt, you didn’t want to commit too much siege (and coin) with quick resets coming, etc.

So what do you all think… would two weeks be too long for the matches? Would it be worth trying and seeing how it goes? Have we heard anything as of late as to whether or not ANet is considering going to two weeks in the near future, or are they content with the week long matches?

Don’t think I wasn’t tempted… but I’m a programmer that works in a building that tends to be quasi-thermally regulated… in the afternoon it gets a little too warm. After a late night, the soporific effect truly shines.

Easily, this matchup with SBI and IoJ has been the most fun I’ve had personally in WvW to date.

Probably the ONLY change I’d recommend making is this… if you’re defeated, fade to black. Take away their eyes. You shouldn’t be able to be a “dead spy” lying around in a keep watching what’s going on. When defeated, fade to black in WvW only. You can’t see if somone’s coming to rez you, you can’t spy.

You know what we need… more finishers. I still haven’t tried out the cow finisher yet, but maybe, oh I don’t know… profession specific finishers? Elementalists could call down for example a single glowing meteor, mesmers could shatter their fallen foe like a phantasm popping, warriors could perhaps place-kick them off to the horizon… shake it up a little.

I like the downed state. It’s a brilliant idea and adds a layer of fun to the game. Hell, one time there was an elementalist and myself slugging it out, we both wound up in the downed state. Sadly, I expired before he did, but it was pretty intense fun.

Recently started a thief alt… try underwater combat with a spear. What a blast! Very quick and elusive. Easily GW2 has put out the best underwater combat of any game I’ve seen. The beauty is that they actually treat underwater as its own environment, as it should be treated.

Why does it matter how many hours you, or I, have played?

Let’s take out the ‘casual sauce’ part of the reply. How is, in any way, what I have said incorrect? It’s my opinion that waypoints destroy immersion and make the world feel smaller, as well as ruin the amount of challenge it takes to traverse a map. Why is my opinion ‘wrong’?

It seems that this game caters to gamers who simply log on for a few hours and log off. That is why there are literally at least 12-20 waypoints a zone.

Did you play the original Guild Wars? Are you familiar with map travel in that game, how it’s an integral part of the lore? Waypoints are the next logical extention of that lore 250 years into the future. Removing this part of the lore would break immersion for many folks. I mean, get real. Asura do NOT go backwards in technology!

I’ve mentioned several times that the waypoint should system should MORE like Guild Wars, where only outposts had waypoints and waypoints were extremely far apart from each other. There were entire zones that did not have outposts and were only available after travelling through a previous one, for example, Mineral Springs.

The difference being that GW1 was a fully instanced world. When you left the instance it reset back to the original state. While in there you could clear out all mobs leaving nothing left. Competely different scenario than compared to an open, dynamic world full of people where things are happening right now and you need to hop to where your friends are to join and/or help out.

You still need to explore on foot to unlock the waypoints in the first place, and to get 100% map completion it’s all about hoofing it.

Rebuttal: the argument ‘simply don’t use them’ is ridiculous.
I agree fully with this… it is a ridiculous argument that adds nothing to the debate. The question is… if you remove them, Tyria is too big for walking alone which means you’ll need to replace them with something. But… what? Is this a stealth “mounts” thread?

Removing waypoints would destroy my immersion in GW2. As everyone knows (or should), map travel is an integral part of GW lore. There’s even a quest you do for a kid who claims his mother invented map travel. Not only that, but waypoints have made mounts obsolete, which I personally find does a lot more for getting players into the environment than waypoints may have to do with removing them from it.

Or just don’t allow people who transfer to a server to participate in that weeks matchup..

The point of server transfers isn’t to cater to all the hardcore WvWvW and PvP guilds to always be on a winning server. The point is to balance populations and get well rounded time profiles for all users on a server and allow people to find their “home”.

The transfer system is being exploited.. Easy solution. Don’t let freshly transferred players participate in that weeks WvWvW. It will prevent people from switching week to week and it will give them more incentive to stay on a single server. Won’t be as much “band wagoning” and it will help to reduce queue times because people will be staying on servers and not causing massive influx in population.

I’m not crazy about prioritizing a queue, because of factors involving new characters, transfers out of necessity (guild or friends moving, lag, etc.). Why should people be punished for things out of their control? It’s a permanent penalization to all players. It would be prioritizing people based on character/account age which just isn’t right.

I don’t think you fully grasped the proposal. New characters wouldn’t be affected, it’s tied to accounts. New accounts wouldn’t be punished… your “birth server” priority would prevent that. It’s specifically transfers to servers with queues that would be most affected. The longer you reside on the new server the less the chance of you getting “out-prioritized”.

Not letting new transfers participate for that week wouldn’t help anything at all. Let’s face it… that’s not the week they’re looking at anyhow. They’re leaving a “losing” server to be on a “winning” server for the next couple weeks. However, if you increase the “you can’t participate” time to be multiple weeks, that’s excessive. At least with a prioritization system you would still be allowed to join even if you face a longer queue to do so.

Combat rezzing creates a skill cap on how well a player, or group of players can do. This is a pvp game. I don’t see why the conversation would ever even need to go farther than that. Having a direct skill cap, in a pvp based game, is wrong.

I have to admit I don’t see this. If the numbers are close you’re not going to stop to combat rez someone unless you want a big, juicy target on your back. If the numbers are so imbalanced that combat rezzing is easy to accomplish then it’s really irrelevant to the fight as a whole.

You can use combat rezzing against the team doing it. They’re taking themselves out of the fight to try and rez someone, and if successful the person rezzed is at half health. There are opportunities to be had!

You’re missing what I’m sayin. in 10v30. Example… the 10 kill 3 people, they’re still fighting 27, 7 stop to rez the 3 in a few secs, while the 10 are still fighting 20…. then it’s back to where it began. 10v30, even though the 10 are better, killed more, and deserve to win.
This chain continues.. till the 10 r just flat out overwhelmed by never being able to accomplish anything because of this mechanic.

Ah, I see what you’re saying… but I admit to not seeing the reality in it. In battles as you describe I’ve seen two things happen. First, the 10 get rolled over and dispersed by superior numbers. The second, the 30 turn tail and run when someone or two goes down. (That happens more than you realize… it’s quite comical.) But 10 on 30 with both teams standing their ground and the 10 not being the team to drop… haven’t seen that happen yet. Regardless, if the aggressors the 10 took a tactical gamble going against 30, hoping the shock of the attack would get them to break and run. You don’t take on three times your number and expect to fight to a draw with no one dying. If the defenders (without siege), the 10 should expect to lose. Maybe they put up a good fight, but still. This isn’t putting an arbitrary cap on skill, it’s just reality.

I haven’t, to be honest, noticed this to be a problem. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen plenty of combat-rezzing of defeated players in WvW. However one little thing I like to do is keep an eye on them and burn them right when they’re rezzed at half health. I also tend to stay on a downed players until defeated. If others manage to revive him, well done on their part I say.

The problem is this.

Say I’m a new player. I purchase the game after its been out a while. I now cannot play wvw at all because all the regulars get to skip the line ahead of me.

The point of a queue is to put people in a line that moves forward. Not to put people in a line and have the back of that line move backwards based on snobbish attitude of people with so called seniority.

This idea is not good. It is barely thought out. While the spirit of goodness is there, the execution is failure. 1 week lockouts I can get behind. Alienating people with some sort of seniority rule I cannot.

You didn’t read his entire post. Did you? He specifically mentions new accounts having the same queue priority as people who have been there for a while. So they would still have queue priority higher than people who server hop.

Exactly this. It’s specifically designed to prevent new players (new accounts) from being punished in any way, shape or form. The only ones that would find themselves bumped would be those that transfer in, and the longer they’re on the server the less they’d suffer bumpage down the queue.

Oh, and also, if you transfer to a server without queues you’d never wind up being bumped. You’d have priority over later transfers that may fill the queue. This does, however, beg this question… if you transfer to a server should you be bumped by new players that join your server later or should you be given equal prioritization to new players that join later… hmm, let me revise the top, brb…

Nah… nevermind.

If it’s your “birth” server, you always get best priority (enter the bottom of the queue for that group) based on the time you entered the queue.

If you transfer in, you join the queue after the “homies” by order of the date you transferred in (older dates prioritized) and the time you joined the queue (Older time prioritized, this simply covers multiple people with the same join date. For those, if you queue first you get in first.).

Why not? It dramatically blunts the effects of bandwagoners while still giving those bandwagon people a chance to get in, especially if they remain loyal to the server and accrue time there. It gives the server greybeards (and new players to the game) prioritized access, so those folks will be able to more quickly get into WvW when there are queues.

I usually try to find fault with my own ideas, and the only one I can think of in this case is coding the prioritizations and the possible introduction of errors to the queue system. Testing could be a challenge depending how they have their system set up… I’m assuming there is (or would need to be) a variable for when they started on the server as well as a flag indicating whether or not they’re originally from that server… if not, we’re talking a DB change which is always adventuresome. Basically…

If home_server_flag = ‘Y’, your queue position would be at the end of those others in the queue with the same flag set to ‘Y’.

If not, then your date_joined_server would be used such that you’d be entered after the above group, after people with a date older or equal to yours and ahead of people with dates newer than yours.

Hmm… ok, maybe it’s not all that complicated actually. This is of course at a pseudo-code level purely in my head, I don’t know their code or setup.

Possible solution to the WvW queue issues: Queue Prioritization.

Queue Prioritization. Pretty much works like it sounds. Basically, the longer you’ve been on a server the greater prioritization you have in the WvW queue. You could, for example, move to (or near) the head of the queue if you’ve been there longer than recent transfers. Brand new accounts would also be given high prioritization to prevent new people from being forced to the bottom. To make it all work fairly, allow a final free transfer to the server of your birth and give you credit for the amount of time back to your account creation.

This idea, or something similar, ought to take care of the transfer/queue issues we’ve been seeing, especially the bandwagon problems. You could still transfer, but you’d have to accept that you may find yourself suffering longer queue times until your time on the server builds up a bit allowing you shorter queues as people leave and new ones transfer.

So you want the item prices to keep going up and you want to make less money to buy the items?

I don’t recall saying that at all.

Prices only go up to a point which people are willing to pay. It is called a relative value.

If you flood the market with gold you inflate prices to unobtainable levels for new players. While it might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside seeing big numbers it ruins the game.

The cost of crafting materials should always be less than the items they create. It wasn’t like that before.

I never said anything about flooding the market with gold. And its already to the point where is hard for new players to buy items. Anyone trying to buy exotic’s at level 80 today is going to have a very hard time.

no their not, exotics are easy, from lvl1 to lvl80 you gather nodes, ore, plant, trees whatever and you sell it, you will easily get more than enough to buy a full exotic set, so please don’t spout you bullkitten.

Kind of hard to sell materials on the trading post when most of them are the same price or less then a vendor would give you. Or did you not bother check that?

Use those materials to craft your own exotics, or use karma to purchase them. Gold really is a minor currency in the overall scheme in this game. You can have millions of gold and still be unable to buy the Orrian exotics.

I have 530k karma the Orr exotics are junk for a necro.

I’m using pretty much no more than one piece per vendor in addition to balancing my traits across multiple lines rather than fill a couple to 30. So far there’s nothing I can’t handle being balanced. (Mesmer, btw)

So no, the Orr exotics aren’t junk, you’ve just convinced yourself that they are. In that case, people can still craft exotics quite fine using nominal amounts of gold. You haven’t changed the fact that gold is only one currency in the game, and not the most important one at that.

Dodging of the fact that gold is at best a secondary currency in this game and that it’s not difficult to be decked out in full exotics without having to spend much, if any, at all. As long as you have enough for travel and repairs there’s no limitations that are placed on you for not having a ton of gold.

Oh, and there’s more than damage in this game.

You’re doing an impressive job at missing the point. You could have a million gold, but you still wouldn’t be wealthy or rich. Gold is only one of many currencies in this game, and certainly not the most important.

I 100% agree with what you said but whats wrong if I want to put the time and effort into making a lot of gold? As the game stands right now you can put all the time in the world into the game and your not going to make a lot of gold.

Dude, you still can! You can put in the time and effort to make a lot of gold. The only thing you need to allow to sink in is the fact that “a lot of gold” in GW2 isn’t the same thing as a lot of gold in other games with inflated economies. Maybe 1000g in GW2 is equivalent to a million something in some other MMO. You need to put perspective on your intentions. You’re not going to make a million gold in GW2 any time soon. But that 1000g in your wallet… that’s a lot. So go make that first thousand and see how it feels.
