I’m not fully up on the politics… why would SoR go for revenge against SoS? Revenge for what?
I wouldn’t say revenge as much as I would say rivalry. It’s been a while since our super close matches of the past, and many of us are looking forward to some equally fun matches when we meet again.
If your from SOR, a word of warning. BG pretty much played themselves out of staying in Tier 1 next week because of their rivalry with SOS. If they had of played smart last week and targetted JQ, BG would have finished in second place and gained some points. This week they are going to miss pushing SOS out of tier 1 by 30 points, which they could have made by playing for second place last week. To elaborate on this, SOS commanders were instructing to leave BG alone and avoid them and target JQ because it was obvious they were the bigger threat.
That said, Im yet to see a server play smart like this. Just know that a “rivalry” can come back to bite you like it just has for BG. And in all honesty, I don’t see BG getting much Tier 1 again for a while. Especially with Kain coming to Tier 2 in another week and FA becoming a stronger unified force.
So… what you’re saying is that BG didn’t go along with a full on double team effort? Kudo’s to them then. I’m looking forwards to their return, we’ve had some great fights with them.
So what’s the whole monthly… would someone post please?
I’m not fully up on the politics… why would SoR go for revenge against SoS? Revenge for what?
Wow whats up with all the people that take things waaaaay too seriously? I think the bow is pretty cool and hilarious in a way.
i would like to see anet do more of these!
Well, maybe ANet doesn’t want us to take their game seriously after all. It seems to be catering to the “who cares, it’s just a game” more than to the “passionate”.
I surely have to rethink what this game means to me. :P To think that I might be taking it more seriously than its creators makes me worry about myself. Lol. :P
They, simply put, want us to have fun. If you don’t allow yourself to see the fun in this you cannot blame ANet. The entire idea behind the manifesto, from my take of it, was that they ultimately wanted to build a game that was fun to play. Maybe that’s an over-simplification, but that’s my take on this. Seeing this bow firing made me smile I admit. It adds to the “fun” element. I still have my serious side and save that for WvW or the occasional instance type run. Even then, though, I have fun.
2. I was replying to a comment made about magic and fireballs. As I said, fireballs have a purpose – they burn your enemy. What do the unicorns and butterflys do to your enemy? I didn’t ask what they stood for.
Can answer the butterfly part… they tell the enemy that a mesmer is about to lay waste to their soon-to-be carcass. They distract, get you wondering where the real mesmer is.
Unicorns also will distract. People will likely focus on them and the source, ignoring threats around them. Tactically used they have a lot of potential value in a mesmer-like way by getting the enemy to do what you want them to do (chase the guy with the bow) instead of what they want you to do.
I was going to save it, but it seems like it’s a photocopy that everyone is getting.
Yep… definitely tasted like a photocopy too.
I already loved the first version of The Dreamer and am actually leveling a shortbow ranger just to wear that one day. But I adore this new one even more. It is absolutely AWESOME. <3
Like I already said elsewhere, there is enough evil manly looking stuff out there already, more unicorns, rainbows and princess wands please. Girls like me are playing this game, too.
Don’t get me wrong. If you love this hideous thing, then it’s great you can get it. But for those who want a legendary (which is more than just a skin since it will also get ascended stats) shortbow and are not femininely inclined (and I do mean that with all the respect), wouldn’t you agree that it goes both ways?
You cannot simply say there are plenty of skins in the game already that are more masculin if you will, because they are not legendary. If it’s fairer to the population to have more rainbows in exotic and lesser ranges then ok. But legendary is a class apart and the equality or rather choice should exist within that class.
I play a mesmer. Maybe it takes a certain mentality, I don’t know, but I don’t just want to beat your character. I want to leave you confused and frustrated while doing so. Knowing that the unicorn effect is striking people at the masculine core of their ego makes me wish mesmers had this as a weapon. As a matter of fact, if mesmers had it it should not only fire unicorns but have those unicorns explode in a poof of purple butterflies and confetti, then I could stomp your downed body with a big daisy instead of a flagged spike. Just to get in their minds, you know? The more upset they get the more mistakes they make. Get someone upset enough and they’ll start to seek you out, leading them into further and further mistakes and domination.
Domination by butterflies and unicorns, with a big daisy for the coup de grace. Yeah.
MESMERS! This post is for you/us! Remember… we have a healing skill that reflects back projectiles while being used.
Unicorns are bouncy.
Although it’s easy enough to get without doing that… I might have to try it once just for the giggle factor. Too bad we don’t have a portable set of diving goggles. Would be nice to hit the ground in style.
Isn’t it odd that no one complains that a great sword firing lasers as a ranged weapon isn’t breaking their immersion? There’s a lot of “convention breakers” in GW2… that’s simply how it is. You can either let it clash with your immersion or absorb it as part of your immersion. If it’s “breaking your immersion”, ultimately that’s because you’re letting it break your immersion. It’s that simple.
Yep Jed… I still love you guys.
i dont know… seeing jormag getting attacked by unicorns and rainbows…
i dont know… getting into a wvw keep and being attacked by unicorns and rainbows…
Think about this a moment… you’re looking over the bodies of your enemies knowing that they know that you not only just beat them, you beat them with unicorns and rainbows.
You win physically and mentally.
As a proud owner of this i am ecstatic about this change please Anet don’t listen to these non-owners and change this awesome feature on my legendary.
Now all i need is a jester suit and work on getting quip and i will be a happy thief in WvW
Oh man, do you have any idea how much mischief you could cause in WvW?! You could lead an entire zerg right into a trap. Think devious and fun!
Another dodger that takes hours, because you gotta dodge the very last second, not just avoid the damage. Kill 5 veterans, killed first, it didnt count, cba to see if next 15 might count for the 5, aspecially that finding them is a chore. I have no real reason to leave the mists now, just an hour of PvP and thats it.
Just do the quick and easy version, go into WvW for a bit. Flip a couple camps, plenty of Vets and they count.
always makes me laugh how people are apparently too manly and/or serious to be able to bear the presence of this bow.
Yup, the same thing happened at release with ppl complaining about mesmer and purple butterflies effects… it just didn’t suit their manly man aesthetics.
I also have a sneaking suspicion ppl complaining about it being “childish”..are probably 15-25 and desperate to prove how adult they are.
You know, it has nothing to do with being too manly or serious, or young.
I’m a 44-year-old man. I’m confident enough in my masculinity to wear pink shirts and ties. I’m old enough to think the idea of a bow that shoots rainbows is sophomoric and unrealistic – even in a fantasy setting. I’m at ease with purple butterflies. Anyone you meet who knows me would tell you that the last descriptor they’d use for me is “serious.” In fact, my girlfriend frequently complains that I don’t take things seriously enough. So you’re wrong on all of those counts.
Now, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I just think that you don’t have to have the fluffy bunny stuff in a game carrying the “Guild Wars” name. I have no objection to the bow itself. I object to it firing rainbow pretties. It is, frankly, stupid and very, very childish.
And the point in my previous post – anyone else’s opinion notwithstanding – is that Guild Wars has always been better than that.
It has never been in the same group as what I view as lesser games like WoW, Aion, Perfect World, Forsaken World, and all the other cookie-cutter MMOs (which GW2 really is – despite how much they want to say it’s different) that pander to the angsty teens who wander around clutching large pink kitten dolls and think it’s cool.
Any fantasy game requires a suspension of disbelief – a very high suspension – to be effectively immersive. For that immersion to work, things in the world have to make sense.
Like it or not, GW2 is actually fairly dark in its tone. Let’s think about that.
- Bandits are everywhere
- Lion’s Arch is an entire city of pirates (you know, CRIMINALS)
- The Cursed Shores are full of dreary and depressing areas (to say nothing of undead Quaggan, for Kormir’s sake)
- Dwarfs have been all but wiped out
- The Black Citadel is quite possibly the most depressing example of reckless industrial abandon you could find. DETROIT would get depressed in the Black Citadel
- Humans are a diminishing race – what’s left of them are in a constant struggle for survival from enemies on all sides
- Norn are REFUGEES, living in a diminished state from 250 years ago – and now with the latest update they’re being driven further into exile from their homeland
- Two giant Elder Dragons have risen so far (Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan). Four more are coming.
- Entire swaths of Charr homelands have been turned into dead zones called the Dragon Brand, and Kralkatorrik’s crystal minions lurk the land – attacking anyone they come across
- With the new rumblings in the northern Shiverpeaks driving Norn and other species south, it is likely that a third giant Elder Dragon (Jormag) will rise very soon, indeed
- Evil Asura are running experiments on living and unwilling test subjects
- Ghosts infest Ascalon and attack any living people who enter their domain
- Centaurs – once often friendly toward others – now kill humans in their own homelands on a regular basis
- The Nightmare Court consolidate more power
- The Gods have left the world, and animals drink water from the altars of the holy places
And yet… even in these dragon-cursed times there are still bows that shoot unicorns and rainbows, mesmer shatters sending butterflies out, areas of immense beauty, children laughing and playing… perhaps your immersion needs a peoples suppressed by the darkness to feel right. Mine needs people rising above it and still finding frivolity no matter how bad it gets.
I’m older than you are too.
Highlighted for being the dumbest sentence I’ve ever read
- But because the skill level of the general PvP player is low and we have Portal, Mesmers have got a reputation for being some god tier OP class and that reputation has somehow seeped over to PvE even though it is the worst class in open world PvE and only brought to dungeons for boon stripping/portal/Time Warp.
Oh man, that whole post. I could barely catch my breath after reading it.
Thanks for that.Oh yeah that definitely proves what I said wrong. Mesmers are the best that is why you don’t see all Guardian/Warrior groups.
Mesmers are godly in PvE. I don’t know what you are going on about. Not only are they beasts at soloing, but they are ALWAYS wanted in dungeons. They bring incredible utility to groups and offers amazing boons like timewarp. In fact, speed runs are designed with at least one mesmer involved to go along with the warriors and guardians.
In my own words only brought to dungeons for boon stripping/portal/Time Warp
I’d like to be a full class in dungeons, not a gimick utility provider.
If you think that’s all mesmers offer it’s obvious you’re not familiar with the profession. There are more ways to do damage than to simply do damage.
I love this weapon BECAUSE it’s utterly ridiculous and I love it more because you hate it! In fact, the only way this could be better is if mesmers could use shortbows so I could kill with butterflies, unicorns and rainbows! It is the ultimate trolling weapon!
Some people teabag. Some make allusions to homosexuality and lack of parentage. Some boasts about high killcounts and headshots. I drool over the thought that maybe, one day, I can twirl and giggle in a frilly dress while shooting rainbows, unicorns and making pretty explosions with fuchsia butterflies!
Yes I am male and I do it because it disturbs you! Welcome to the mindset of a mesmer! Feel free to leave my party anytime you can’t handle the “awesomeness”. I would let that shield hang low though. Butts make very tempting bullseyes.
My main is a mesmer as well… you may be on to something here to be honest. I love the confusion you can cause with a spread of clones running around and assorted invisibilities to make you disappear… it’s a fun way to take someone down. Brain first, then body. Perhaps there’s a certain mentality needed to appreciate butterflies and unicorns as weapons of mass confusion?
This reminds me… I’d like to see this bow being fired under the effects of Time Warp.
always makes me laugh how people are apparently too manly and/or serious to be able to bear the presence of this bow.

They’re just doing it wrong. I like to think that I’m so manly I can kill you with purple butterflies or rainbow unicorns and still look incredibly macho doing it.
i guess the game is not discriminating and EVERYBODY can find something they like, even the “different” peeps.
It’s kinda hard to not pick up on the undercurrent of homophobia in a lot of the complaints in this thread… but way to make it crystal clear.
Caught that comment and couldn’t go silent.
I hope it is very clear that there is absolutely nothing to do with homophobia in my anti-rainbow/anti-unicorn opinion. It is the breaking of immersion that annoys me. The effect would be exactly the same if the bow shot flaming Rock Dogs: it just makes absolutely no sense.
The part in bold… isn’t that the part where Sigmund Freud would raise an eyebrow?
From the original Guild Wars to GW2 ANet has always thrown fun things in there. It’s who they are and I appreciate them for it. I’m still waiting to see one of these in WvW, but if I had one I’d certainly use it… especially as bait to draw enemies into ambushes and traps. “He haz rainbow bow! Get him!” Portal bomb
Aw yeah.
… The effect would be exactly the same if the bow shot flaming Rock Dogs: it just makes absolutely no sense.
Ooh, that would be sweet… Longbow Legendary, please!

I’m working on an hypothesis regarding this:
The only people that hate rainbow bows that shoot unicorns at you are the people lying on the ground looking up at the ranger holding the rainbow bow that shot unicorns at them.
I am really disappointed by the new daily system. I appreciate the will to “help” us getting into the game by gamifying the whole process, but for people like me with job and family, the result is that I will not be able to achieve it: combo kills, for example, sometimes are simply not possible ‘cos when I am playing none is really available and I don’t have time to use looking for partners in the game. Or I just want to relax and solo for a bit.
This new system is instead be a barrier to me: it really took away from me the desire to play, since I will not be able to achieve even a small daily result without putting efforts and time that I don’t have. Thanks for listening.
I guess you missed the part where they removed combos from the rotation, yes?
I hate the changed dailies. The original ones weren’t a hassle, something everyone could complete in their own time and at their own pace. Now we’re dealing with things you HAVE to group for. I hate grouping, outside of PVP. I generally quit games that tell me grouping is the only way to go. I want to be in charge of my own time, and I detest standing around waiting for others.
I’m also really upset about finding ‘achievements’ which some of us are physically unable to do (twitch elements are rather hard on the physically handicapped). And I just don’t see the point in making people do things they absolutely loathe.
Can we please just get the old dailies back?
Which dailies do you have to group for? If you are talking about combo killer, that one is gone, Arenanet took it out of rotation.
Even combo killer didn’t require a group. I got mine putting up Feedback bubbles or Null Fields around the foe and letting someone else get the killing blow through the field. Worked like a charm.
Uhm… so basically you used a two person team, yes? Which means that formal group or no, you did not do it solo.
I didn’t know it has been removed for not working correctly when I posted. But that does not take away the fact that they DID intend to have this for an achievement, and that while some classes may be able to solo this, others cannot. And that many do not even know what a combo is, let alone how to use it. Which makes the whole thing ill-conceived from the start.
It didn’t require a group, but yes other people were involved. Considering the fact that I rarely if ever see events happening solo this should be a non-issue. Event, work the event, others are there, done.
The whole “I wanna solo!” argument to me is borderline ridiculous simply because world design makes it so inviting and simple to work with others, inadvertently or advertently. This isn’t a WoW style game where the open world PvE is best done alone, so if you ‘prefer to solo’ as some say you’re going to have issues regardless of what’s in the daily.
If you need Vets, go to WvW and help flip a couple camps, towers, etc. Veterans galore, you get it in minutes.

“Anybody want a peanut?” – Fezzik
I did four of the five parts of the daily in WvW yesterday, only popping back to LA to craft for a few seconds to get the last part.
Another easy way to get the Veterans one is in WvW. Flip a couple camps and you’re done. Veterans galore.
Nah. I like how little level actually means in this game.
There are parts when you run through that are horrible weather and have steam vents coming up from the ground.
Steam vents?
Why did “karka” immediately spring to mind…
Got 25 black lion salvage kits from today’s daily. I’m happy with the changes to be honest.
Whoa, hey, what?!
Spill the beans, son!
Worst case scenario…
“OK guys, you all wait at the bottom of this cliff, I’ll brb…”
The moderators do a good job keeping things relatively calm, especially compared to other forums out there where the hate flows like Greenland glacial melt. Once people here accept that I’m right and everyone agrees with me things will calm down even further.
Of course, that would be boring as all get out.
That’s it. JQ is proving to be quite tough this week.
Time to put on pants.
So you’re the one I’ve seen running around… did you get the flowers?
yea did they even test this with all classes/weapon combo’s, i tried for 40 mins with a group of 3 other people and managed to get only 7 before i ragequit, a guardian using a sword/torch and sceptre/focus has 1 finisher with a 4 second activation and 40 second cooldown and no combo weapon feilds at all, try timing a 4 second activation to coincide with an enemy death while trying to get it to work before your friends field runs out or they kill the enemy its almost impossible, i have more underwater combos but 0 of them worked after 15 minutes of successfulling killing enemies in fields with finishers, christ it kitten me off, what a slap in the face to people that solo, i also dont craft so i was equally kitten at the crafting part, if the other dailies are as kitten i will be quitting and try to find another game that doesnt try to “fix” something that isnt broken, why mess with the dailies anyway, its obviously a cheap attempt to strecth out gameplay and make it look like new content with the least effort, jesus put your time into fixing bugs and making a real expansion not trying to force players to play a certain way and taking the fun out of it for a lot of people, oh well it was a fun game while it lasted, but this new update doesnt bode well at all.
Don’t guardians have initiators? Let’s see… hmm, sword, scepter and torch have no combo effects, shield has a blast finisher. Instead of waiting the four seconds, can’t use detonate the shield by hitting the skill again?
Regardless, and pending the imminent “I don’t want to” arguments to follow, you could consider a great sword or hammer to switch to on occasion. I’ve used those on my guardian and had an absolute blast with. It may be a fun switch up from the norm and will definitely do the job.
I didn’t think changing the dailies in the first place was going to be a good idea. While they’re not as bad as I thought, anything that requires:
- Having to group with other players
- Having to compete against other players
- Having to take up a profession
— is going to be inherently flawed.
If they’re going to continue to “mix it up” then they really need to make sure that:
- Doing dailies in no way depends on other players whatsoever. They should all be soloable.
- Dailies don’t require you to do something impractical. (Having to train crafting to complete part of a daily achievement, regardless of ease, is completely impractical.)
1. You’re not forced to group, but combos do require interactions with other players attacking the same thing. If you’re trying to avoid other players attacking things you’re doing it wrong and need to break that habit the more archaic MMOs have gotten you in to.
2. Learning a training skill is free and instant. You can learn a craft and hit your ten in fifteen seconds. This is one of the most practical objectives to date.
Score update brought to you by Feisty:
I see what’s on your back!
Hmm… I do have the gems saved up…
Quit fussing about the Champion… he’s rarely home anyhow. Usually he’s kited down the ramp and left to sit somewhere all alone while everyone farms the node.
It’s still a guaranteed node location it seems, if the Champion is in the way work together and make him go dead.
Not going to bother with these. Good job sticking it to WvW players again.
My guild is WvW and we had no problems. Plenty of underwater things to kill, plenty of people or quaggans to revive, craft a little, dodge a lot, use your fields in combat. Sneak over to Orr if you want to check out the new backpieces and ammys or do it fully in WvW, both work.
Tried relogging etc, same dailies displayed though
still no credit
You completed it yesterday though, correct? That’s why… it hasn’t reset to the new daily yet.
If it’s the same ones as yesterday then it’s simply because the daily hasn’t reset since it came out yesterday evening and you’re having display issues, showing the daily as not completed after you completed it. (Evening U.S. east coast time, btw)
The reason why I haven’t done the last 3 monthlies are groups(dungeons/fractals). I don’t mind playing with other people, I just don’t want to be part of a fixed group. Seems like I can cross out “doing daily” from today’s to – do list.
You don’t have to be grouped up. You can use someone else’s fields without being in their party.
Well for a person that loves to get on and just solo stuff for the most part and the reason to get on to play was driven to complete the daily…. logged on yesterday, saw the kill combo with alley… logged off… not much reason to go back…
/bye
You’ve never set up your own combos? On mesmer it’s easy enough… Feedback or Null Field with a greatsword, either GS2 or the phantasm.
I strongly hope for Combo Killer to come back soon as it was an epic social tool.
Also, I found it to be pretty easy if every party member know what he/she is doing, and it has been my very first new achievement, took just some minutes with guildies
I agree, it was quite easy. Just be the initiator or finisher in a killing blow with a combo and you get credit. I got mine solely using initiators while the party used them for finishers.
I got this using Null Field and Feedback bubbles on enemies in Orr. As long as someone uses your field for the kill you get credit as well as them.
Colin, from what I observed it was actually working fine. From what I saw, if you were either part of the killing blow combo you got credit, as expected. I got all mine using ethereal initiators, verifying that you don’t have to do the finisher to get credit (which was fortunate!). There was no need to remove it… people simply need a moment to catch up on what’s happening. In a zerg it’s difficult to be in on the killing blow, so people were likely thinking they weren’t getting credit for something they actually shouldn’t have but thought they should.
It was simple. Be either the initiator or finisher in a killing blow and there you go. With a guild party of five people that actually thought about it it proved easy.

There was a little confusion… after the patch you still had the prior days daily. I completed that before the daily reset (yet after the patch) and got the new batch of daily goals which I was also able to complete. The gathering, events and kill variety were on the prior daily, after the reset I had Underwater Kills, Healer, Crafting, Combo Kills and Dodging.
This daily proved to be incredibly easy on my mesmer. The odd thing… I finished my daily from prior right after the patch, then while we were checking out the new stuff in Orr the daily reset, so knocked that one out too. Trying to remember the second…
Underwater kills – killed things underwater in Orr, was easy with the guild group there.
Dodging – Dodging is an instinctive part of combat, got this without even trying.
Combo kills – On my mesmer this came quick by putting up feedback bubbles and Null Fields around the enemies. If allies use your field in the killing shot it counts for you.
Crafting – 10 bronze ingots, check.
Healer – Reviving NPCs in Orr and WvW count as well as reviving allies at temple events in Orr, it came easy actually.
It wasn’t that bad as long as you put yourself in situations to succeed.
Thieves can also block siege shots.
