Hi Allisa, thanks for the suggestion but the graphics card, resolution or operating system is not the cause of the issue, as this happens on both my laptop and my pc which are completely different machines on different settings.

My PC (which screenshot above is from) is running win7 64bit, with an nvidia GTX-570, at 1920×1080 resolution.

My laptop (screenshot attached) is running win8 64bit, wtih an AMD (ati) Radeon™ HD 7670M, at 1600×900 resolution.

So as you can see, there are no similarities at all but the problem is consistent, so this would conclude the cause is with the game client rather than the pc hardware or settings.

I can’t say why you don’t have this problem on one of your computers, maybe if you could supply the details of the machine like I’ve done above, it may help arena net devs pinpoint the cause and fix this long term bug.

As you can see in the picture attached, when you enable “small” interface size, all the fonts get mucked up so you can hardly read anything as its all pixelated.

It’s been this way since as long as I can remember the feature being implemented, I’ve waited this long to say anything as I assumed anet were aware of this obvious bug and working to fix it but many months have passed and nothing has been fixed, so here I comment to highlight the issue.

Instance Owners - remove this feature

In a party system where anybody can join or invite each other, and the “party leader” has no special privileges or authority, I cannot fathom why arena net decided to enforce this “party owner” system, where if the person who first runs into the instance logs out or leaves the instance, the entire group gets kicked out and the dungeon resets. (unless it has completed).

Can somebody suggest why this is a good idea and why this has been implemented? If not, I suggest to anet to remove this pointless annoying feature which is inconsistent with how groups are formed and used in gw2.

As you all say, there will always be discrimination against certain classes/levels, it’s less offensive to a player if they are not invited to a party, rather than being voted out and being kicked by the entire group.

Also, more than 4 other players can request to join your party at any time, but when the group is full (and you need to start kicking people, if you want to) people can no longer queue to join the group, as they will get the “group is full” message.

So it would have 3 benefits;
1.) players deciding what class combination they want
2.) less offensive to unwanted players
3.) allow players to queue to groups that appear full, but not confirmed yet

What is the point in having a yes/no option to allow somebody to join your party if you can’t see their class or level?

My suggestion is to let people see info on mouseover of the player portrait (same like when they join party) so the party can decide if they want this class/level to join their party or not.

this is common sense to me but I don’t know about the rest of you.

Mystic Salvage Kit vs Master's Salvage Kit

Is it cheaper to buy Master’s Salvage Kit, or craft Mystic Salvage Kit?

I calculated below a single use of the mystic salvage kit (at current gem rates) to be :
2.01896 silver (per use)

Are my calculations correct? is it pointless crafting these? (compared to using the Master’s Salvage Kit from vendor, at 0.6144 silver per use)

Materials List:
Fine Salvage Kit – 2.88s
Journeyman’s Salvage Kit – 8s
Master’s Salvage Kit – 15.36s

3 stones, but can only buy in bulk of 5 for 250 x Gems
Gems x100 = 319 silver ÷2x3 = 478.5 silver (4 gold 78 silver, 5 copper, for the 3 stones)

Calculation Breakdown:
FSK + JSK + MSK + Gems in Gold = 504.74 silver, ÷ 250 charges = 2.01896 silver

not sure if it’s a bug or a bad design flaw, but when you use the mystic forge it still shows items in invisible bags, so you could in theory accidentally forge an item that you didn’t wish to (the whole reason for it being in the invisible bag in the first place is to keep items safe).

if it’s a bug please fix it, if it’s not then take this as a logical suggestion for improvement.

Stuck on Loading Screen

you have been on a loading screen for 5 days?

on popular waypoints on busy server times this often happens, I tend to just hit alf+f4 (to close the game) then log back in and it usually loads fine.

unfortunately this really is a server capacity issue and not a problem with your pc, I’m sure a-net are doing their best to resolve all these server capacity issues.

is there a chance you occidentally completed the PVE daily without realizing it? (sometimes I do) as you only get the daily rewards for either the pve, or the pvp daily, not both.

this works for me, it should work for you, if it does not, log out, clear your cookies, then log back in and try again. (I know it sounds strange, but just give it a go).

Precursor Acquisition - a different approach

DISCLAIMER: I am probably talking utter nonsense, if so please ignore me, but if there is some truth to this please reply your thoughts/opinions

THE QUESTION
The question “what is the best way to get a precursor” has been asked many times, but any answer is merely speculation and assumption based on peoples opinions from what they have seen/heard other players experiencing.
Arena net are never going to tell us which is the most efficient (time/money) way to grind for a precursor, so let’s use some logical deduction. (correct me if I’m wrong in any of this logic)

THE CALCULATION
It’s common knowledge from reports of players who have obtained a precursor weapon, that they can come from anything which has a chance to give you a level 80 exotic weapon. (CS zone completion unconfirmed, I always get exotic armour personally)

So this mean the actual chance of getting a precursor must be calculated after the chance of first getting an exotic (as precursors have a lower drop rate than exotics, but are classed as an exotic item)

To backup/verify this calculation, Arena net have already stated that you have a higher chance of getting a precursor from the mystic forge from throwing in exotics, as opposed to rares. This must be because there is 100% chance of getting an exotic from throwing in exotics (you can’t get a lesser quality item out than u put in) so there is only one calculation remaining (precursor: y/n).

BEST WAY TO FARM EXOTICS
Most of the event hunters like myself have probably noticed more exotics coming from daily bonus chests or the actual spawned/lootable chests themselves, than any other mob killed/chest looted in the open world/dungeons.

CONCLUSION
So this would conclude logically, that the best (most efficient) time/money way to get a precursor is just farming these events 24/7 with as many level 80 alts possible using the guesting function and gw2stuff.com, isn’t it?

note: you will only get an event bonus chest once per day, per account, but spawned lootable chests are once per character, per day

Mega super lag

deleted my message cos I though the problem was with my network, but even after shutting off all things downloading.. i’m still getting disconnected and booted out of my game, on average once every 2 hours

really, this only started this badly today, not sure what they’ve done to affect UK users or if its Virgin ISP doing funky stuff… but its very frustrating.

As is clearly visible in this video, temporal curtain doesn’t add to your swiftness duration if you already have swiftness (which it should, this is how swiftness boons work).

please fix this annoying bug.

ignore my crazy ramblings, it’s fine now, it was either a temporary but or I messed up the timing, but confirmed as requested, you can still do each event with an alt once daily to get the lootable spawned chest.

lol yeah probably, it’s a bit ridiculous that they don’t consider this progress blocking bug serious enough to fix, I’m no programmer but I can’t imagine this type of bug would take long to fix…

ye I never camp at the event spawn points, I do stuff in between (other events, JP’s etc..) never just camping, and they are all level 80, its possible I did it about 23 hours ago.. but I’m sure they used to reset when the dailies reset, I’ll try again in 24 hours, I’ve time stamped when I killed it last.

The daily chest reward for completing an event has always been account wide, but the lootable chests that spawn after killing an event boss were character based.

So, if you have more than one character you can do the event once daily on each one.

Now it seems you cannot, there is one chest per account, per day, period. ???

Is it just me who noticed this stealth nerf, or are there other event hunters like myself who this affects?

or is it a bug of my game?

EDIT: or did they change the way the chests reset, instead of when the dailies reset to a 24 hour reset period from last kill of that character?

well thats the thing, people are doing it like shown in the video linked in the first post here by arena net, and that’s where the bug happens, not sure why it didn’t happen for the devs playthrough.
it’s not obvious to go back down a jumping puzzle to where you started, to progress, if the path leads the group onwards from the top of the jp.
the door isn’t opening next to you, it’s opening way below where the npc is waiting.

I just did it with the suggest work-around (one person jumps up, clicks the console then jumps back down and walks with party + npc).
she still doesn’t engage combat, but she joins in when you start, at least, then continues to the final boss.

its fine they took it offline to fix the loot exploit, but it would have been nice if they fixed this bug also as it’s quite serious and clearly affecting lots of people.

dungeon is disabled now, my guess is because of a loot exploit somebody found, but let’s hope they are also fixing this bug.

they fixed the coffer item names from the dungeon, but now the non dungeon dropped coffers have this funky Japanese name! did somebody just hit the reverse button on file names?

well since it seems a common bug with lots of ppl even on multiple playthroughs, I’m not going to waste time keep trying this instance, some acknowledgement from anet of this bug would be nice, so people know to not keep wasting time on a new dungeon which doesn’t always work.

I hope to see a new patch very soon with patch notes saying it’s been fixed, in the meantime I guess we will have to avoid it for now.

yes we expernecied this also.
after the bit where she goes through a locked door and we jump up on springs to meet her, we engaged combat before she did and she didn’t join us to open the final boss door.
she just stood there, doing nothing. so we could not progress this dungeon.
this is a major progress blocking bug which needs to be fixed asap.

  • dragon coffer are named in japanese/chinese? ?????]
  • if you die from laser beams in the start of the dungeon, you cannot use waypoint res (says in combat)

I sent 200 gold to my other account to get a quick and easy title “Golden”, which was successful. But when I tried to send the money back to the originating account, it says it’s limited because this account is new.

I have made a guild, invited characters on the other account to deposit the influence items and now making a guild vault. (mainly just for more bank space).

When it’s built (in a few days), will I be able to deposit this gold into the guild bank from my new account?

(if it is like people say, only allowed to send as much gold as you have earned, it will be a LONG time before this new account generates 200 gold!!! so I hope this is not the answer…)

TP: search for unique item skins

I think it would be nice to be able to search the trading post for unique items, so we can browse the unique skins to buy.
(this is, anything which is not <item> <of> <sigil>/<rune> (eg, “mace of blood”, or “gloves of rage”).

There are two ways to implement this useful feature.

option 1.)
add a “unique” tick box in the search filters

option 2.)
allow excluding search function, like web search engines do (eg, -“of blood”, will show every item which does NOT have “of blood” in the name), so people can do a search with -“of(space)” to find unique items.

either option would allow players to search for unique looking items without having to use external websites to find lists of weapon skins then go back to the game to search for the item name.

(also while you’re at it, allow exact searches like search engines do using quotes, so if i wanted to search for “gloves of rage” it would only display the gloves of rage, not everything with the words gloves and of and rage in the item name)

thanks for the info mercury, I’m aware of workarounds to the skillpoints, this is not the point I am making, I believe you have misunderstood what I am trying to explain.

my point is regarding the triggering of events, as per this topic is discussing.

Anet have just stated (above) that some events have been left unchanged since launch because AT launch these events were designed around the expected population in the zones at that time, and I am highlighting that it is not just the events in low level zones which need review since launch.

Taidha's Gate: Beyond Legendary?

I try to tell people in /say during the event, but this gate is not like other gates which are affected by damage amounts, but merely by the amount of single attacks.
So if you are not already doing so, switch to your weapon with the shortest auto attack time and do NOT interrupt the auto attack unless it is to give quickness. Also, when I try attacks that hit multiple times (like ranger warhorn #4 ability with the birds) they hit for zero, so don’t bother with specials.
You will always hit for between 1-4 no matter what skills you use, so just stick to your fastest one.
(and yes, the kegs/bombs you can pick up do more damage but the amount of time it takes to go and get one and plant it, then wait for explosion, you would have done more damage in the auto attack during that time)

I believe the gate does now scale in health with the amount of players, sadly they did not also adjust scaling the health of Taida, so once its down you have about 1 minute (or less) to reach and kill her, at least that was my experience yesterday.
(fortunately I know where she ends, so I just run there directly from the gate going down, she had about 8% hp left…)

List of events that don't start

I can’t understand the logic of making low level events only START when the required population is met, and in high level unpopular zones (like straights of devastation) have events which never END unless there is a mass zerg to finish it, stopping people from progressing the map.

I’ve been waiting for a champion mob guarding a skillpoint in malchors leap to leave/die so one of my characters can finish the zone, for 3 months and counting

Surely after several MONTHS have gone by without an event being completed, it would be time to review having that event at all, or possible downscaling it so it doesn’t require so many people to complete it?

I definitely agree the whole events triggering system should be re-visted now that we are almost coming up to a year since launch, the populations on these zones should have stabilized enough to allow analysis and change.

Password must be 8 characters long error

I also have this problem when trying to change my password to another password that is at least 8 characters.

But it allows me to make a much longer password.

So my guess is they changed their password policy bud didn’t bother to update it on the account creation/password change forms.

It is NOT 8 characters minimum, it is much more, as I tried many different passwords none of which I have used elsewhere, but the longer password was accepted.

Revive doesn't always grant exp

in this video example, you will notice only 1 of the 4 people revived grants me exp.

this is a clearly obvious bug and should be fixed.
it happens randomly but consistently, when you resurrect somebody shortly after a previous resurrection.

Celestia, this is usually just lag issues, if you close the TP then re-open it, usually this resolves the issue, for me anyway.

Check to see if these issues happen during super lag times (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mega-super-lag/) if your times of TP issues match the times of people getting super lag, perhaps the issue is server related.

I can only say personally I only experience this after being booted back to the character login screen after a long afk break, then log back in. (this issue anet are aware of). but even this doesn’t happen very often.

If this continues I suggest you raise a support ticket from in-game, as your issue doesn’t sound common.

Mega super lag

to better illustrate this point, I compiled a video, showing the 2 lag after clicking #1 attack ability, or using heal.
Notice after jormag dies and people zone out, the lag instantly vanishes, as you can see me using #3 staff ability at the end of the vid and it appears with no lag.

This issue, along with camera getting stuck after zoning and culling mobs.. I think anet have underestimated the expected popularity of this game!
I hope they fix these bugs soon.

yeah I heard about this but couldn’t find it in the gem store, and haven’t seen any official word on it, (though I haven’t searched too hard hehe)

I’m sure anet is trying to resolve the delay, after all, the gem store is their main income I’m sure this is high on their priority list.

Darkorical, I’m glad you don’t face this problem any more but from the amount of players that have this issue (though this thread only shows a small portion) AND the fact my pc is a Intel Quad Core i7, 6gb ram, Nvidia GTX570 (4gb), on w7 64bit, going through a 60MBit broadband line, I doubt the problem lies at the client side.

(also this probably is linked to the PVE culling issues which anet have already stated are not the fault of the users, I’m merely shedding light on other issues it also now affects)

just to clarify, if you are in melee range or your pet gets smacked in the face, then yeah it will start attacking the enemy, but how many rangers prefer melee play? not the majority I’m sure.

ok, this has gone on a long enough now I have to say something… not sure how many people have already reported it or not but it’s a serious bug which needs to be fixed!

When I teleport to popular a waypoint I can see everything going on around me but cannot move, or I move but the camera is STUCK at the waypoint, I have to use the minimap to find out where my character has moved to, but fighting like this is quite hard as all you can do is tab target as you can’t see anything because the camera is stuck.

I’m not saying a few seconds lag, sometimes I’m waiting a minute or more before my camera updates to show me my character. This is quite ridiculous.
(sadly by the time I load fraps I’ve already been waiting for ages, but see the vids they still show the bug, look at the minimap!)

I have heard other people tell me they have experienced this also, so it’s not my pc but definitely a server/client related issue.

Please either fix this bug or at least acknowledge that it exists.

ok, this has gone on a long enough now I have to say something… not sure how many people have already reported it or not but it’s a serious bug which needs to be fixed!

Ranger pets not attacking after swap

So many times my pet’s refuse to attack my target after I swap them, unless I go into melee range for the pet to get hit, then he wakes up and starts attacking it.

No matter how many times I hit F1 or auto attack (#1) it refuses to do anything,.
This happens only when I combat, with any pet and in any zone versus any mob.

It happens 75% of the time but it very frustrating and a clear obvious bug which should be fixed.

I only noticed this staring to happen after a recent patch update just before the Dragon Bash events started.

of course, as I said your point is valid and possibly true, however it’s worth testing on a critter to be 100% sure, as other animals have damage mitigating factors.

if on a critter the ability is not doing as intended, it’s either a tooltip error or unintended bug.

(ps. I would make a new ranger to test but my character slots are all full!)

just because Zysmon hasn’t played ranger for more than 20 minutes it doesn’t make his point any less valid.

I would suggest however, level up your ranger a bit more and see if this tooltip (and desired output) changes each level, you may find it’s only bugged at level 2, and as such would put this at a very low priority on the bug fix list.

But also note, that the numbers on most tooltips for attacks is almost always incorrect, as there are so many other mitigating factors which come into play.

Try testing this on a rabbit or other critter, as they have zero defences

well it would have been nice to play tonight.. I guess i’ll have to wait until people have gone offline.

wait a second.. wasn’t this the whole point of having OVERFLOW servers? correct me if I’m wrong..

I can’t play right now, as there is a 5 second delay on anything I press.

the game never used to be this bad during prime time, and yes I know there is a new event/content which brings players back.. but if anet wants to keep bringing new players to this game they need to fix the issues we are currently facing with server capacity.

Tons of people have this already due to a common bug that is widely known, don’t worry about it.
The amount of effort anet will need to go through and delete every person’s items (possible thousands of players) in the next within 48 hours is not worth the effort, enjoy the item.
