My play style is up-front direct damage dealer with the dagger in most situations, taking blood magic & soul reaping ensures that i’m durable while still dealing out high direct damage.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83873-the-dancing-lich-powermancer-build/
You might remember this thread from yesterday. When i tried posting the whole thing on here i got connection errors and it ended up posting it 3-4 times.
So decided to post it on Gw2Guru instead.
My biggest issue with WvW roaming with necros is they seem to have no escapes.
If I get immobilized, i have to pop my heal to get out or i get downed very fast.
I seem very vulnerable to conditions and what not
What does everyone run that they find effective and they can still escape. If i get 2 backstab thieves on me I seem to die so fast and I can’t really escape, I can just throw down as many AoEs as i can in hopes of protecting me
So I need some advice, how do you roam with your Necro?
Normally if i get immobilized, unless i need to heal i try and dark path to my target as it throws them off, by the time they realize where you are the immobilize has worn off.
Are you running Consume Conditions for your heal? It’s pretty much mandatory for WvW. If you find it’s still lacking use a staff and DS to transfer/absorb the conditions.
Anyone with 2 backstab thieves on them will die fast if they execute everything without a hitch. Dropping your wells and Life transfer will normally make them back off.
Hello fellow Necromancers. I’m here today to present to you a build i fabricated and have been using pretty much since i hit 80, one that I’ve always stood by and adapted with in almost any situation. At first this was a kept secret, then i gave it out to guild members receiving positive response, which gave me the confidence to present the build now to the wider community.
The first video is my most recent, it shows the build and how I’ve built my stats between defensive & offensive to suit my personal play style, along with tips on to adapt to large scale fights.
The other 2 videos showcase the build in WvW, a few 1v1 matches and small group fights combined through them both.
I have recently been playing a lot of Tpvp and thus adapted this build to it as accurately as possible. Tournament footage will be up next.
Please feel free to try it out, any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
Enjoy
I find that when I use my staff, my LF tends to charge VERY quickly, esp if I use marks on multiple players/mobs.
Only gives life force with the “Soul Marks” trait in Soul Reaping. I really do recommend it though as you gain ridiculous amounts of LF with it.
Staff #1 Gives 3% LF.
It’s the Thief & Mesmer that are also getting access to torment (rangers don’t), how efficient or easily accessible their version is, remains to be seen.
As seen from our POV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv5x8yTwAwg
I’ll be posting my build up on my channel soon, just finishing off some minor details and it will be up over the weekend.
+ Death magic (Protection)
But if you’re talking about damage, the damaging ones scale from power.
If this is true everything i use is getting buffed, one super duper happy necro!
As long as the Condition isn’t “easy access” to the other 2 professions then i think it will be balanced.
I can imagine Torment with Mesmers being OTT though on top of confusions builds (not being able to do anything at all without dying).
So i’m assuming it’s cast and random coniditons start flying off on the target and all nearby targets if the victim moves at all.
Overall it’s a kick in the nads for mobile proffesions which is a step in the right direction for us.
I am curious though how power will affect this ability (if at all) i’m guessing it will be a pulse effect (Well damage) on movement while its active.
Sounds promising, but we’ll have to see.
I think if we took the proper time to prepare we would have come out better, as far as i am aware there was only myself and fhenrir who played together pre-dating the match.
Agreed that the rank difference was ridiculous, the whole thing felt kind of rushed and off the bat. If we do this again (and i would like to, had some good banter with you guys tonight) we should definitely play a few games together beforehand so we can synergize.
Fingers crossed for siphoning buff
Absolutely. Would have been better if my connection wasn’t terrible tonight but oh well
The Orr Temple Light armor? I’d say that looks like a nobles gear, both male & female versions look very regal in my opinion.
I’ll be up for practicing be good to get familiar with each others builds.
Try the Armageddon set from Orr.
I just logged on for my guild WvW night and i ran up to lake tower & everyone was just static for about 10 minutes then i disconnected..
The lower cast time is great, the reapers touch traited animation however.. why was that even changed?
It’s not your typical go-to burst class, but i think its safe to say all professions have decent zerker builds. Whether it suits you comes down to enjoying the profession itself.
Reapers touch now has a “Fling” Animation instead of the “Flick”, guessing this is unintentional.
On the upside, Focus skill cast times are reduced?

Spiteful talisman finally fixed!
For the most part, DS is power based. Meaning you will of course want 30 in SR and some points in spite and another tree of your choice.
For weapons you’ll want the fastest LF generator which will be dagger / focus (Warhorn is better on larger groups of mobs). Use Axe or staff as your offhand.
Using spectral abilities also will also ensure your LF bar stays topped up 24/7 (spectral grasp / armor / walk).
This is brilliant, i demand more!
WOP is situational, i only use it on guild nights when i know our group is gonna be tight and i can actually pull the conversion off.
Outside of that i use Corruption pretty much all the time along with suffering, it’s just keeping players inside the wells that seems to be the difficult part.
If there are any EU runs being organised, feel free to /w if im online
I made a new YT channel for my necro, which you can find in my Sig.
Also bumped my rank up to 12.
Make it instant teleport, double recharge time.
Would be nice to have an escape tool.
A very limited and situational escape tool if it’s a target spell.
From my point of view in WvW, making it instant cast would be the way to go.
We’re meant to be the proffesion that stops players getting away, yet anyone can outrun Dark path quite easily unless you’re in their face.

Flesh Golem needs to go back to this.

Thankyou again for the incoming Spiteful Talisman fix and for taking the time to talk to us. Always happy to hear from the devs.
Ok Spiteful Talisman is fixed locally. This should appear in about 2 weeks.
This is great news, i can consider throwing this back into my build now. I’m happy to wait 2 weeks so you can make sure everything is working as intended with the trait. Thankyou.
Personally i prefer Focus over OH dagger just because it fits much more nicely with access to vulenerability & the boon stripping to tone down Buff-heavy proffesions.
I’d stick with Locust signet over Quickening thirst, just because the heal can be a lifesaver in battles & there are much better traits you can use in Blood magic.
Rage is still my preffered sigil, even after the haste nerf. If you want to see some D/F action in WvW just have a look at the vid on my channel.
Looking at the GW1 flesh golem, that looks like a proper elite skill.
The GW2 version looks absolutely terrible.
Fair does! Trying a new look and a new build can renew interest in a class, a few players i know do this
Still no spiteful talisman fix…
I don’t know if this will tip the scale in terms of fighting thieves, but as an advice for fighting anyone really: Take Spiteful Spirit instead of Spiteful Marks.
You have +20% boon duration so you’ll have retaliation for 3,5 seconds. And with the amout of power you have this will do 353 damage for each hit, 379 when you activate Blood is Power. Also, Signet of the Locust… I don’t get why so many necros have this in combat.
locust is a must atm esp without warhorn for perm swift
This adds no offensive capability, and it certainly doesn’t help against thieves. Whenever I (as a necro) see a necro who has this Signet, I know that I’m going to beat him, because he just wasted a utility. Any other class will just laugh at our +25% movement speed.
So other than for traveling and the healing potential in zerg fights, this Signet is a waste.
You might want to take a well or Corrupt Boon instead.
Locust signet is pretty mandatory for wvw, the on-use is really good (if your 1v1’ing, run near some mobs & presto, another great heal) and with power builds it has decent damage. If you can stay in the fight longer then it’s not wasted at all.
Overall though, if you meet a good thief that know’s what it’s doing, there isn’t much you can do unfortunately. Just hope you can dark pact it, get your wells off and hope it doesn’t shadowstep.

When i was leveling my necromancer i hit a brick wall when i hit level 70.
Suddenly i didn’t know what direction to go in, what weapons to use, what to trait for and even what my general role was going to be.
I had to shelve it because trying to figure it out was stressing me out too much, so i continued to play my warrior and my thief along with leveling an engineer. But i still felt something was lacking, my kills always felt cheap & undeserving on my thief, My warrior is pure bunker mace & shield which was built around control, setting up kills for other players and damage reflection, in the end it just gets tiresome. My engineer almost grasped what i wanted from a class, but the amount of things i had to keep track of was exhausting again it was lacking something.
Eventually i went back and now i have a build I’m extremely happy with, stats balanced to suit me and a clear role set out on what i want to achieve.
I think the problem overall lies in the definition of the necromancer. You see one and you’re not sure what to expect from them in combat, they can either melt underneath you or you can get absolutely crushed by one.
It takes time & patience to appreciate this profession and most times players just want the free road to lootbags, which means taking on the shinier more popular professions.
TLDR: Necromancer is the most rewarding profession i have played in this game.
No thankyou, i love my Death Shroud!
Really having a full arsenal of minion’s + set of wells with staff would be way OP.
Apparently the bonus damage that was added to spinal shivers on boon removal doesn’t work if this trait is taken as well, i haven’t done any testing personally but just the fact it’s half working, it’s just not worth taking at all.
They actually changed the sound on reapers touch as well, but didn’t even touch the broken trait. No, they fixed the bonus damage for boon removal on the trait in the April patch.
Ah my mistake, still I’m not sure why the trait was left just at that without a full fix :s

I don’t think there’s any need for dagger to cleave (If i it did, life force gen would be much lower or non-existant) , the only thing that needs changing imo is giving siphon healing a tiny boost and i’ll be happy.
Really great ideas so far guys! I especially like the idea Omega presented of ‘marked for death’ being linked to other Greataxe skills, this could even fit in with Lich form quite nicely. Other abilities like “Bury them” and “Slice of life” are certainly interesting!
Spiteful Talisman Fix.
This looks interesting, i play mostly WvW so i haven’t seen this before. So any EU players can sign up?
Anyway i’ll stick my details down here.

I thought this would be a fun topic to start, after reading a few topics about there possibly being such a weapon in future expansions.
With our class being current Axe wielders, i can see the possibility of wielding such a weapon in the future!
This is thread is for making YOUR ideal Necromancer Greataxe in GW2.
What 5 abilities would you like to see with this weapon?
Will it be another addition to the ranged arsenal? Or will the MH dagger have a new sibling?
What direction would you like to see this weapon go? Power? Condition? Control? Mobility even?
What kind of animations would you like to see with possible Greataxe abilities?
Are you an artist? Post us your sketches of future necromancer greataxe wielders!
Lets get the devs reading this! Together we shall proudly bring this weapon into our weapon slots and onto the skulls of our enemies!
