Yes, I will lose FPS by a chunk if I do.

That’s EXACTLY my point. You’re posting nearly irrelevant data for more than 80% of the users who play this game. By this I mean that 80% of users on this forum more than likely do not have a high CPU clock like you. So your post about how adjusting a few things will drastically increase performance means nothing.

I’m asking you to momentarily under clock the CPU to the average (between 3.5 and 4.0) for more relevant performance comparison. The reason I ask you to do this is because people will spill into this thread whining they can’t get the FPS you’re getting.

Ever stop and think that maybe they’re having you farm the materials BEFORE you can use the gear it produces as a way to prepare you for the next zone? If anything, being able to farm materials BEFORE you need them is better than getting them WHEN you need them. Leave it as is, if you need more ore after 100% clearing a zone, go to the next zone at the same rank. Also helps you level progress and makes main story quests easier to deal with as sometimes you’ll slowly fall behind.

Well I talked to some people (and i mean specialists on computers) and what they said make more sense then what I get here unfortunately. The Kepler architecture of cards 6xxx is not optimilized for guild wars and that may also be the reason why your old card (which does not have it) performs better. Nonetheless all these are speculations for me unless I read an answer from tech support. Cheers

You act like we know nothing of computer hardware… And say you are seeing our posts as speculation unless you read an answer from tech support. My word are you thick headed.

1. We wouldn’t bother claiming your card is low performance unless we can back it up with facts, which we do.
2. Those ‘Tech savvy’ people in your local electronic store are simply ‘selling’ the card to you. They don’t care what you want to do with it, they’ll agree it’ll handle what you want so you buy the card.
3. You’re in Tech Support, we wouldn’t bother posting answers unless we know what we’re talking about (see point number 1)
4. Your ignorance is stunting your development as a mature human being, I highly recommend you adjust it.

How are comments about the poor performance of your video card useless? Your card for lack of a better term (in the context of HD gaming on newer games) is useless… Just cause you THINK something doesn’t make it a reality. And we’re not ‘hating’ on your card, we’re simply stating the clear facts about it. Your best option is to sell your 630 and purchase a 560/660 (560 is cheaper). My GTX480 is just over 2 years old and out performs your GTX630 and that’s the clear and simple truth. A GTX470 even out performs it and that’s a lower performance card than mine. Facts are facts, you didn’t do enough research before investing your money.

Why bother using super sampling? There is hardly a difference between that and native. And saying GPUs can handle over 100c is 100% wrong. Certain cards are designed differently. You can find safe operating temps on the GeForce website. GTX480s can run up to 125c whereas another card might not be able to exceed 110c. In the long run, do you really need SS on to really enjoy the game? I would do a screen shot with SS on and then it standing at native and really see the lack of difference.

As Killimandros commented, the GTX630 will not get you far. Just because it’s a 600 series card doesn’t make it better than a high end 500 or even 400 series card. My best estimate is that a GTX630 is less powerful than a GTX470 if not a GTX460. So don’t expect much from that card…

Had GW1 since the day it released. I even played it in the beta stages many years ago. That game ran flawlessly.

GW2 on the other hand, complete trash of an engine. Honestly, what are your programmers doing to patch the game and make it WORSE than it was pre-patch.

Getting ~50 fps. Sometimes if I afk, my fps will randomly drop to 20 and stay like that for no reason at all. GPU runs at ~40% usage and CPU runs at not even 15%….I have an i7 920 CPU and you’re telling me that it only requires 15% of its power to run this game? HELL NO!

Fix yourkittenengine ANET or I’m going back to CS:GO

Why complain? Just play CS:GO until the game is optimized. The reason they’re probably not responding is because they actually already have. They’re aware of the issue and are gathering more information on the matter before making a formal statement. If they had people from ArenaNet answering people left and right that’s too risky and one may say something but the other employee says something completely opposite. They can’t say anything because they simply do not hold the authority to do so. People can only do so much in a day so why don’t you kick back, mess around in CS:GO, and come back in a few days with a better and more understanding attitude?

OS SSD – OCZ Vertex 2 120GB
Game HDD – Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB @ 7200RPM
1000w Silverstone P-1000 PSU

Running with everything at maximum with supersampling set to native I average 35-50FPS. Basing this as low compared to playing other games that are configured to be more graphically demanding and scoring 70FPS minimum (Skyrim with 3rd party graphic enhancements mainly).

Currently using 304 Beta drivers as I haven’t updated to the 306

A simple….

Why are people asking to use EVERY third party item associated with the game? This is simply a visual enchanter and doesn’t affect game play what-so-ever. Therefor by logical deduction it’s safe to use.

In addition, somewhere in the forums a thread about auto-clickers has a response from staff. Summation of it was that if it doesn’t give the player an unfair advantage over another then it’s acceptable. Take this with a grain of salt but I for one wouldn’t hesitate to use this.

With the way ArenaNet has been tackling bugs with the game and doing hot fixes left and right, I highly doubt we’re being swept under the rug. They probably are gathering the hardware information people are having issues with and trying to recreate the situation in their office. They will then use these machines that experience the performance issues and test new engine builds/patches until significant progress has been made and then roll it out to the public after some beta testing.

I have patience where it seems others aren’t having any of it. I’m not slandering this crowd but I feel we ow it to ArenaNet in some way to be understanding of the following.
- The game is still considered new and with this comes bugs/exploit issues/security upgrading/etc.
- They are prioritizing these issues presumably as follows | Security > Exploit > Bugs
- My logic behind that is security is number one because what’s the point of fixing exploits and bugs if no one is playing (that actually bought the game). Fix exploits next to ensure the economy isn’t jacked. Last is bugs, first starting with game breaking and boiling down to visual/experiential. The reason the visual/experiential is last is because the game is still playable in its current state.

TL;DR – They’re aware and working on it but it would be nice to know their progress in the matter.

I run an i5-3570, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 670. I have ZERO performance issues. Rarely drops below 55-60 fps, and very little stutter. I am not sure why so many people jump to blame Anet when their higher end PC won’t handle the game.

I have had poor performance, fps, and latency issues in other games and swore up one side and down the other it was a game side issue. In the end, it was in fact my own settings. Just one setting, one box checked that doesn’t need to be and it can completely crush performance. Before pointing fingers, try making adjustments on your end.

Many people have a rig that our performs yours (myself included) are having issues. Try reading the forums before pointing fingers at other people.

Sorry but still being twekead or “tech hardware of the users” is not a excuse when the perfomance of the game is worse after a patch, with yesterday patch to me the game run almost half of fps that 3 days ago( 40-60fps alone or in small groups to 15-35), and many people go down from 50-60fps to 10fps.

Not talking about computer hardware, talking about network hardware for one… The technology exists to jack people in with at least 100 down and 50 up. But the cost the install the new cables required and modify the connectors in households simply is too costly to do. Google is still testing Google Fiber and if it’s successful I could imagine it spreading like wildfire. Fact of the matter is, not everyone has that dream connection speed and servers can’t connect fast enough either. This generates horrible performance both in server lag and video lag (reports of people not showing up on screen until you within a few feet of them in WvW).

Yes, more fps makes the lag less apparant, but in games like Quake, Battlefield, Skyrim, the input feels direct, where as in GW2 it does not.
FPS problems should make it choppy, not laggy.

I agree, but in this instance I believe the lag comes from the game removing the choppy to artificially make it smooth thus adding the ‘lag’. Remove the choppy factor (Higher FPS) and it will reduce the amount of artificial smoothing.

Who zooms in and out while playing? I don’t.

I know I do… zooming in on that eye candy is fun every 20-30 minutes or so. Not to mention the auto zoom when the camera hits a ‘wall’. And just because you do or don’t do something doesn’t mean everyone else does/doesn’t as well.

Paraphrasing from a forum mod… using any third party tool to gain an advantage over another player may result in action being taken against you. If you feel it isn’t allowed, don’t risk it. In this case, I don’t see it as a HUGE advantage as it is probably situational.

It does happen and it is annoying! I really only use it when I’m right in front of an enemy and I know I won’t go running somewhere stupid. It hits pretty hard.

There is a setting you probably didn’t check in your config that makes you stop at the mob…

In addition, server lag can cause your character to run through the target. Another scenario is that the mob moves closer to you but your character still thinks it’s in the same spot (this I thing is a bug that should be fixed).

So first check your settings, then note if the mob moves or not. If the setting is checked so you stop at the mob and the mob doesn’t move towards you then it’s a glitch.

Btw when will you learn that packing hundreds of people together in one server in the same area fighting each other creates lag,and your fps Will drop,no matter what game you’re playing.Gw2 does a pretty fine job tbh espec in wvwvw the lowest fps i get is 26,and thats when assaulting or defending, everything still maxed out.

Solution ? DO NOT pack hundreds of people in the same area. Plain and simple. The tech is not there yet.

GW2 does a pretty fine job ? You gotta be joking.

Tech is there, not everyone can afford it. And for what it’s worth, GW2 DOES do a decent job at handling all this considering it JUST released and is still being tweaked to yield the best results.

Near future and superior parts… that doesn’t seem to register with you as it should. And why settle for less when you can “in the near future have superior parts”? The logic still doesn’t make sense. And I’m not basing your 9600 to my 670, I’m basing it based on the cards performance with current games. Your 9600 is literally a waste of money. Most of what you’re looking at is a waste of money.

Here is why I’m still repeating myself… The 9600GT is valued at (By EVGA) $59.99. Lets take this card and put it on a scale of 1-100. This scale of 1-100 is ranging from a GeForce 6xxx series card (1) to a GTX690 (100). The 9600GT falls to about a 5 in comparison to the 690. Now, for just $100 more you can get a GTX560 and this will score you medium quality at decent frames. Yeah, it’s $100 but if you wait just 2-3 more weeks you’ll have a much better time (considering you’ll take lowest settings at 25fps…). This card will then last you at least 4-5 times longer than a 9600 would. Seems to me you’re over eager and not looking for the most practical solution in long term. You are a “I want it now no matter how kitteny it is”. This is a significant issue for another day but I hope you grow out of this mindset.

680 is a solid card that’ll last a good while. My 480s are 2 years old and still throw down (thankfully as my 670 is in RMA mode ATM).

If you’re not comfortable with installing the cooler, I would tap into a local community forum board and see if you can’t get someone to take care of it for you. If all else fails, YouTube installs and try and learn from there and if you find yourself being up for it, go for it. You really don’t need to be as careful as people say you need to be. I’ve done a few break downs and rebuilds on my PC and got lazier less careful each time (not like throwing the parts or anything). Just follow directions per instructed and you’ll be grand. Worst enemy is fear in this situation.

9400GT is not going to do much if anything at all. There are some good benchmark reviews (Toms hardware) showing what the newer GPUs and some previous generation models thrown down. That 9400 is horrid and I would advise using nothing less than a 460.

Going to agree with this. The 9400 is terrible. But then again, so are all those parts.

Yes, I was just trying to be nice. It’s kind of awkward having people post “Is this good enough?!” when there are reviews out there and not to mention, very affordable and good parts for a PC. You can build a PC for near a grand that can dish 30-50FPS on Crysis with everything capped to highest quality. I don’t get why people spend $400-500 on a mediocre PC (Desktop or laptop-lol) then wonder why they can’t snag some decent frames. Living in such a tech heavy society now, you would think people would be aware…/end PSA

Unlike most though I do not have such money just to spend instantly on a system, as I said previously, this computer will serve as a base so I can buy parts piece by piece, and not all at once.

since laptops generally cannot be upgraded much and since this new one will have better specs than this laptop I thought I’d grab it since its affordable currently and will serve better for future.

I understand there are other threads/posts/websites dedicated to getting good fps, but they always are on a budget I cannot reach, or aim for max/ultra when I do not care for that, and have never needed max settings, most people who cannot get max settings on a game deem it “unplayable/horrid!” but I do not, low settings with smooth fps will be acceptable for me for now, I am just after ideas to get this running acceptable on MY standards so I can at least play it while I wait to upgrade.

Never said if it’s unplayable if you can’t hit max settings. I’m simply calling it as it is. The GPU you’re looking at is significantly outdated. Another thing to point out is that buying computer parts one by one over time is not a suggested strategy. By the time you accumulate the parts to the build you had your sights set on, your newest piece will probably be held back by the first piece you bought as technology has progressed down the road. I highly suggest saving money (allowance, chores, whatever) and getting it all pooled for one big purchase at once. If you REALLY aren’t up for that kind of patience then I suggest you lay down somewhat big on a good motherboard that will accept components that will be released down the road. The issue with this is we’re on the brink if not already there with PCI 3.0. So you’ll buy a PCI 2.0 compatible GPU now but have it on a PCI 3 mobo later, or you’ll buy a PCI 2 mobo now and end up bottlenecking a PCI 3 GPU later. Also, check eBay, you could find some used parts there that could help your budget but keep in mind it’s on you if they arrive defective in some manor.

Yes, but benches clearly show the difference between 3.5 and 3.7GHz. It IS a way to boost performance and regardless. The matter still stands the game is chewing CPU and if the CPU is maxing out but the 680 is laughing it off then the 680 is bound to the CPU and and isn’t using it’s full potential, thus bottlenecking the performance to the CPU. Sure it can be optimized but at this current point the solution is to OC the CPU and hopefully get your frames to where you want them.

EDIT: His CPU has very capable potential of hitting 3.6 if not 3.8 and staying within desired temps. Do that for now until they optimize which will probably come after fixing bugs in game. In addition, try beta drivers to pinch some more frames if possible.
