A whole lot of nothing? I find it next to useless because I dislike how a great deal of the gear in this game looks. I’m just saving up my jugs of karma in case that ever changes.
I’ve bought 1 42k piece of gear from the vendor outside arah but I’ve yet to see anything else I really want.
It’d be nice if you could get the cultural gear for karma but I don’t care for most of that either.
Maybe if we all pool our karma together we can buy a new designer for the armor skins to make something that people actually like.
Agree – poor choice of words.
And for #1 – huh? If you can’t find a dungeon to complete, then…dunno what to tell you, we’re not talking rocket science here. The aren’t ALL bugged and issue filled, please.
I agree that WvW repairs suck. I don’t WvW that much and find it alarming every time I do it.
Some people complain about having to do WvW for the monthly and the response is that this is a complete game and that you don’t have to do the monthly.
Well, as for WvW costs, this is a complete game and you don’t have to WvW. If you don’t want to do activities that help you pay those repairs, that’s your issue.
I’m sure people have hardware fry while playing GW2 – and while playing other games, and while just existing, because hardware fries and/or dies sometimes – it’s part of computer reality. The fact that it occurs while playing a particular game is just chance, usually.
As stated this was announced ages ago. And…do you REALLY need 15 names reserved? Isn’t that a wee bit excessive and maybe even greedy?
Yeah, the halloween stuff was pretty big going in, I’m sure most of this is undoing it, which is kind of sad (that they have to patch the stuff in and out).
As a friend said, it would be nice if they had background downloading and such for GW2 and as fluid as the game is in so many ways, it’s wierd that they have to patch event stuff like this in/out.
Like in the game that won’t be named, the events just start. The stuff is already there waiting. They don’t have to activate it via patch and deactivate it via another patch.
I have 3 80’s, I explore cursed and malchors every bounce to find the T6 nodes, I see a lot of obvious bots and bot behaviors (plus see them in every zone my low/mid level alts pass thru).
After weeks of seeing the same bots I am noticing that some of them are gone – dunno if they were banned or just relocated. But the thing is, one bot name might be gone, but there’s yet another bot there to replace it.
I think the supposed recent bannings might have had a little effect. Just a little. You see new bots in the same spots, but I’ve also started to see level 50/60 bots to be in orr zones (which is completely stupid, you should not be able to get into orr zones under 70 or 68ish since there’s no possible good reason you would ever bee there).
So now the bot swarms also involve powerleveling upcoming bots to be. I most commonly see this in malchors kind of up near the beach beneath doric wp. You see the bots pop at lights way point and easily and safely run thru mobs up the beach to get to their bottly destination.
I’d imagine it doesn’t take that long to go from 50’/60’s to 80 tagging mobs 24/7. Probably get event credit for the incessant flipping/contesting of doric too, just for killing mobs in the vacinity.
So anyways. Yeah, maybe ANet is doing something about bots, but it’s really hard to notice, and ultimately, the problem will never go away unless they tackle the real problem, which is the cheaters who use the services of bots.
Remove players who buy 3rd party gold and PLed characters and announce THAT to us (for ex, today we (ANet) closed the accounts of 10000 players that have bought 3rd party data). Make it public. Make a stand. Show that cheating isn’t tolerated.
The only way the bots will every really diminish is to kill demand. As long as there’s a demand for 3rd party gold, sellers will figure out some way to bot and foil anything ANet does. ANet puts together a team…that’s supposed to fight multiple teams from multiple companies going all out to harvest gold.
There are data trails. Cheaters could be deteted. Cheaters could be removed. The game would be better for it all around. Less cheaters, less demand for gold, less gold spam and bots.
I hope not because these types of events go on for too long and are generally annoying. Says someone who usually doesn’t care but got every holiday achiement for the current event. I still find it mostly annoying, it was just something to do.
The costume brawling was the most annoying of it but I guess it kind of fits since most players seem to have a preschooler mentality and that activity was perfect for them.
It’ll be extra annoying if it’s the exact same thing every year, like it always is in the game which shall not be named.
I’m curious, does Tyria magically have the same holidays at the same time the country known as the United States does
Dunno why people freak out over what AMERICAN developers do with their games, like events, release dates, etc. If it bothers you so much, stick to playing games made in your own country.
That said, it is kind of goofy to think that in-game holidays coincide with RL holidays, even if that’s probably the best way to do it so that the feeble minded average player doesn’t burst a synapse.
- In games where you have 40 hotkeyed skills you rarely use more than a handful regularly, and use the others situationally or never. In fact, most “rotations” in those games feature 5 or less skills usually. So this is an utterly ridiculous point to make.
- Switch weapons – either thru weapon swap or manually for variety. Classes that don’t have weapon swap have other mechanisms of variety.
- In GW2 you should have 5 weapons skills visible, another 5 on your 2nd weapon (or other class mechanism), your heal, slots, elite (another 5), and whatever class abilities you have. So you have 16+ skills. And in GW2, you should be using all of your skills, not just putting crap on bars, unlike games where you hotkey 40 skills and use almost none of them.
TLDR: L2P
Is it sad that I’m playing my ranger in cursed, doing a T6 gathering run, which is the only reason I ever go there, and I help someone fight a few mobs at an ori node, and the guy says, “wow, a ranger that isn’t a bot”
I swear, I feel nervous in several places in orr zones or frostgorge when I’m on my ranger, because I’m passing thru a highly botted area or a botswarm of ranger bots, and I’m scared that somebody might report my character.
Now, ANet says they’re banning bots, and I somewhat believe them, because I’m seeing some different names and not seeing some names I’ve seen for the past 2 months. I have amazing powers of observation and memory and it’s not like detecting or tracking bots takes more than 1 functional brain cell since it’s all painfully obvious.
But for every bot that’s removed, it seems like a new bot replaces it immediately. The same spots and same bot swarms are going nonstop.
I’d say a tiny bit of damage has been done because now I’m starting to see lvl 50/60 bots in orr zones – bots powerleveling other bots – which is even more ridiculous – botters taking game abuse to all new levels.
But the problem really hasn’t diminished a whole lot and there’s a LOT more work to be done. If they banned 10000 bots recently, they still need to do that several more times over.
And I still contest that while banning the bot accounts should be done, the real problem is people who cheat and buy 3rd party gold or accounts, and banning players who don’t deserve to play online games should be the priority. Kill demand, and bots and spam get reduced.
It’s like ANet is digging a hole in the middle of a sandbox. Dig, and more sand just slides in and fills the hole. But please ANet, keep doing what you’re doing and more, and please, not only do I want to see that you’re banning botters, I want to see the “we banned 5000 gold buying cheaters” message.
There are lots of other MMORPGs if you miss playing those certain roles or classes. /shrug Obviously this is not the game for that thing.
I’ve been messing with RaiderZ which is like Tera light, and I really like how those 2 games do combat. It would be sexy to have an MMORPG with that style of combat mixed with GW2’s crazy content setup (events and leveling at least). Some day.
…like the one today. Resetting T6 node positions 20 times a week is getting REALLY old (ok, wasn’t 20, but it feels like it, the daily and multiple times daily patches have sucked)
Please add optional specific keybinds for looting (only) and reviving (only).
The generic interact key is great most of the time, but there are also a lot of times when there’s a lot around to potentially interact with and you want more precise control over your actions.
Starting to rez a useless NPC or player in the thick of PvP/event, for ex, when you just want to spam looting while fighting so you don’t miss out on your loot, for ex, can be a disaster.
This either proves that you are the coolest person alive and your parents should be very proud.
Or that warriors are OP…not that this is news.
According to a post by one of the developers, the Clock Tower and the Pumpkin Carving achievements are not counted
I love puzzles so I wanted to do that anyways…but why the hell am I wasting my life carving pumpkins if it’s not necessary. Holy kitten. I’m feeling like punching something now.
The jumping puzzle is a joke right?
Listen to your audience. IT IS NOT FUN.
1. You do not speak for everyone. Not even close.
2. I completely disagree. This puzzle is awesome. It’s excellent design and an excellent challenge.
3. The puzzle was obviously designed to be a challenge. Instead of crying, rise above, learn to play better, take it as a challenge, and get it done. Put your energy into trying harder instead of crying harder.
What’s truly sad is that so many people were happy back in the BWEs that there was some challenges in this game, but of course, once the game goes live, the whiners start to appear.
I love the puzzle – great challenge, great design. I’ve finished it and now that I know it can usually 1-shot thru it.
I didn’t so much like doing it with others, especially huge charr and norn that blot out the sun.
1. The items that do show on the back look dorky. Glad you can hide them.
2. I have 3 80’s and a bunch of alt, and sorry but, I’m really tired of the personal story quests. They are usually long, drawn out, have too much unskippable dialog or filler, and the only real reason for me to do them is because it’s the only way to get a lvl 80 back slot item.
If your alts aren’t mid/high level they can’t get the better cloak from this event (which goes away soon so there’s a limited window).
There really needs to be other ways to get decent back slot items at 80.
I was really surprised to see how few titles you can get for PvE and how many you can get for PvP. And yeah, lack of things like “X slayer” when you finish the achievement for killing X felt odd (but most of those are cake to get so IMO, they should bump up the number of kills by a factor of 10 if there’s going to be a title).
I have a title for doing 1000 revives and that’s about the only title I’ll get for PvE. It’s kind of wierd.
4. TP fees and deposits suck but players set the prices in player economy – there isn’t much ANet can do except reduce supply (bots aren’t helping).
5. Wrong. Crafting is never guaranteed money but even in GW2 there’s money to be made with it.
PvP tab go to heart of the mists take portal to Lion’s Arch – that makes one leg of going to the bank/merchant/changing zones free
I don’t like Lion’s Arch. It looks cool. But it has a poor layout for crafting/bank/tp, and the map chat there reminds me why I hate so many MMORPG players – it’s intellectually insulting.
So I don’t usually want to be in LA, and the number of loading screens involved (even with SSD and fast internet) is punishment for going the mists/LA way.
I have plenty of gold so travel costs are no biggie to me but I can see how it would suck for people who don’t have as much time to play, who suck at accumulating gold, or who aren’t as good at playing and die way more than they should.
I would agree about the bots but I didn’t read that article because the author is someone that I don’t care for. He’s one of the more opinionated writers you can find. Some people love his stuff. Some hate it. I’m one that doesn’t care for him.
Well, number of items that you get from the family corn boss apparently got lowered, so fewer chances at something decent. Not surprising.
That link doesn’t include the most recent, but I’ll bet one item was reducing champ spawn times in the farm…err, labyrinth. I wouldn’t be surprised if the loot tables were nerfed as well even if 76/87 exotics are about butt useless and about to be as cheap as yellows.
I’m using a human female with the smallest body type/size and can’t see myself most of the time, which makes it annoying. I’ve given up til later or something.
I wish they all had the red lightning effect. I have 2 daggers for my ele and the greatsword for my warrior and you barely notice the effect on the GS even though it’s much larger.
Linux has like 1% market share or something and most of that isn’t gamers. There’s no good reason for anybody to waste resources trying to make PC games run on it.
Great OS – for some things and some people (techies) – but not necessarily for PC gaming.
(spoiler)
Well…
I encountered Tybalt last, and each of the three factions has pretty much the same story with slightly different dialog and quests, and the same tragic event happens in each.
So by the time I got to Tybalt, I knew what was going to happen, and I actually found him to be incredibly annoying.
According to http://gw2craftmap.bteamgaming.com/ there are on average 19 orichalcum ore nodes in the world.
Obviously tier 6 nodes help you make money, but to do all that travel, find the nodes every server bounce (at least once daily lately), and do all the gathering takes time – it’s called “farming.”
I don’t mind doing it, but the game isn’t supposed to be about farming, and you shouldn’t have to do it just to get by and play the game.
This game has no sub. ANet intentionally designs things so that you are pushed towards stuff like farming – ie, playing and not having fun- OR – getting gold via other means (like gem store, which benefits them and is the easier route if you have cash).
You can’t really blame ANet for steering people towards the gem store, but it still kind of sucks. It’s just something you have to live with in a game that has no sub. Farm, or pay.
At least farming is an option and you don’t have to pay.
Many people just don’t understand that in a game like this that has no sub, you’re not just going to get everything handed to you on a silver platter.
I’m of two minds here.
I have no problems with gold (without cheating and buying it from 3rd parties or using gems) so travel costs to me, while seemingly costly, are ultimately trivial. But I “farm” a lot to do this.
This game isn’t supposed to be about farming and is supposed to be about fun.
Exhorbitant travel costs, insane repair costs for WvW and dungeons, and double dip ripoff fees via the TP are pretty much lame and not fun – they are basically ANet’s way of saying, you will farm, or you will buy gems and do currency exchange (their pref, obviously), or you will cheat and buy gold from 3rd parties (based on the number of bots in this game, this would appear to be a common alternative).
I feel like the system works better at lower levels. A port costs like half of an event reward rather than 1.5x more than one at higher levels.
Yeah, kinda. I don’t mind porting around at all at lower levels. At 80 I avoid it like the plague and I have plenty of gold (one way you accumulate gold though, is to spend it wisely and keep costs down).
The reason there are completely and utterly ridiculous amounts of bots all over this game is simple. There is a demand for what they produce – gold.
There wouldn’t be so many bots if there wasn’t demand.
Kill demand by closing the accounts of all gold buying cheaters. Simple. The data trails are there. It’s inexcusable that nothing is being done.
Nobody wants to play a game surrounded by cheating scumbags. Get rid of the losers.
It’s not like you (ANet) lose subscription money if you get rid of cheating losers, so get rid of the scum.
And nobody wants to see armies of bots in every freaking zone to the point that they are competing for kills to get quests and events done.
can we get some info on this arenanet??
Would be nice…
I’m really sick of people dragging a chain of mobs behind them and having those mobs end up on me when I’m otherwise not involved.
Two things:
-those mobs should not peel off of the person who aggroed them without a reason – like another player attacking, healing, doing SOMETHING other than just being near.
- you should NOT be able to gather from nodes while in combat – a large amount of the training is due to people tapping nodes and not bothering to fight. You can’t seriously get me to think that this game was designed so people could avoid fighting mobs that easily…while gathering. You get interrupted if you’re looting a chest and get hit…why is it any different for gathering? It’s expoitive.
must re do arah story mode guys just done it.
Please god, no! Unless they changed it to suck less…heel no.
What rewards can you get with the token? Is it remotely worth it to endure that place in story mode again?
Nobody can find him on my server. Maybe it’s a mystery! Or…sigh.
everyone trying to download at the same time is probably overloading the servers. Anet DoS’ing their own servers. heh
Well I guess since this is a big event there’s lotsa people on and waiting, but, in the past when the game felt more vibrant they never had this type of issue with patches and patched more often.
Who knows…it’s glacially patching now at least.
same, hosed….15 – edit, nvm, fired up the very next try after posting….apparently posting here was the miracle fix
(edited by Voqar.2349)
This is a basic flaw, if you will, of a level based zone system.
Except this game isn’t purely that way since you can be challenged in any zone at any time at 80.
I’d imagine that not all players go for 100% zone completion and if you don’t, you have no real reason to visit those zones you never visited or finished while leveling, especially the lower level ones because the rewards are generally weak.
Bots and players have run almost all items you might get out of lower/mid level zones down the the point of vendor cost outside of crafted mats.
Lotsa people don’t craft either so they don’t care about the mats you might get doing or completing low/mid zones.
The purely PvP crowd doesn’t care about PvE zones much at all.
Judging by the number of bots on my server, there must be an amazing amount of players cheating via buying gold, so apparently a lot of people would rather cheat than actually play the game – and that doesn’t help zone pops either.
I peaked at about 44g but blew a bunch of it prepping gear for my next 80 and impatience in maxing out one of her crafts, so I’m down to 24.
I’ve spent a decent amount getting 2 80’s fully exotic (gathered most but there’s some stuff you end up buying) and all 8 crafts up to 400.
I also have a serious dye addiction. Most of my gold has been flushed buy 20 undiscovered at a time and playing dye lotto. Finally kind of getting over this now that I have to scroll on my main just to see my 40+ rares dyes. :P
The duelist set on female humans is one of the best looking medium sets (to me, obviously opinions are going to vary). It doesn’t have a long coat! /collapse. It looks like armor a thief might actually wear! /gasp
However, on a NORN female, the set (chest piece) looks totoally different, and while not a horrible trenchcoat, it’s still a coat, and looks nothing like it does on a human female. It actually looks kinda dorky.
Please fix the duelist top so that it looks the same on norn females as it does on human females.
There’s no good reason why human females should have a monopoly on awesome. :/
PS – No clue about other races since I don’t have a female of those but I’d imagine they’re screwed up too since it’s widely mentioned that only human females can get a freaking decent appearance that doesn’t have a god forsaken long coat involved.
1. Rarely get used for anything except guild spam.
2. Eye sores. I don’t wanna see your lame attempts at anime ripoff. I always turn off avatars and graphical signatures because they’re a waste of space and slow down information.
3. I don’t like grief. The current system prevents it. You don’t go to WvW to socialize with enemies from other servers.
4. I don’t think game design has much to do with community in most regards. Players have evolved over time and most of your community comes from your guild now and voice chat.
The only major design thing that truly pushes community is forced grouping. Solo gameplay means little community – no reason to communicate. Your optional grouping is either via pugs that don’t have any reason to communicate or via guild so it’s internalized. In older games with forced grouping, you must socialize or you never level, and the overall trauma and misery of such games leads to stronger community. It’s not really worth it to endure the crappy gameplay just to get to know random people a little better.
People want the ability to endlessly solo in these games. It kills community. You can’t really have both since the whole idea of solo means you don’t want anything to do with other people. Solo goes against the whole idea of massively multiplayer but solo is how most of the game is played. Companies want to pay for the expensive games so they make them very solo friendly.
Successful MMOs of the past were more about grouping (and forced grouping) and had way better community. Community develops when you do stuff with other people. That doesn’t happen much when you solo 99% of the game and pug groups here and there.
The only place community ends up happening is within your guild if you’re in a guild that does stuff together.
Report it.
Doesn’t much matter. Bot situation gets worse and worse and ANet isn’t really doing much except talking. No point in wasting a lot of your time on it.
The reporting feature does suck – you can’t even add a comment. You just have to assume ANet will figure things out. Yeah, that’s gonna happen.
Nobody said it needed to be a leather bikini. Just something OTHER than a trenchcoat. Something that’s a leather top that doesn’t hang down past the waiste. Period.
BTW, there’s, you know, magic, dragons, and all kinds of stuff in fantasy games that BEND reality. So it’s not like armor has to actually look like we’re in the middle ages. “Armor” could have all kinds of magical properties giving protection. Your toon could be in a magic thong that projects an invisible defense field for all anybody knows and have more protection than someone in full plate.
Point is, toons can look good, there could be more variety, having almost all armor look alike for medium with long coats is sucks. Heavy armor suffers similarly – the only non-skirt/kilt looking stuff is so funkily adorned that I’d never wear it.
Tom’s Hardware usually has a monthly roundup of “best” cards in different price ranges. Dunno if that’ll help you make a decision and “i5” isn’t all that indicative since the speed of i5’s very by model and your processor could hold back a higher end video card.
You should be playing the game because it’s fun, not for a gear treadmill (I suppose some might find that fun, and to those people I suggest getting a job).
This game is more like a standard MMO in some ways than GW1 so you never know, I could see them bumping the level cap at some point and upping the gear, but it wouldn’t be the same as tiering.
Cape/Banner/Cloth Clipping and YOU! Lets brainstorm ideas about how to solve an issue which has plagued video games for years.
Posted by: Voqar.2349
In SWTOR they deal with long hair clipping by not having long hair styles. Like the female hair choices are short or are styles where it looks like they were once long but got chopped. Not that great of a solution since it means hair styles are limited and generally horrid.
Clipping is a problem in pretty much all MMORPGs because the cost (time and resources) graphically and code-wise to deal with it would be insane. Sucks but it would just take huge amounts of resources to get every piece of clothing to work correctly with every single piece of gear.
Here’s to hoping halloween/oct patch or some patch in the near future adds some variety in armor. So, so sick of long coats for medium and skirts/kilts for heavy.
I was looking thru images of all the armor in the game again yesterday and I’m sure it’s just a personal taste thing, but I don’t think I liked any of it, which doesn’t seem like it should be possible.
it’s because artificial difficulty is much easier to design than real difficulty.
slap 5 million hp on it, give it maybe 2-4 attacks and call it a “boss”.
Pretty much.
Although for my gang, we usually find the bosses easier than some of the trash.
Is there any penalty or drawback to waiting so long, or even not completing the story missions AT ALL?
Currently the only way to get back slot items is via personal story and the one you get at ~80 is pretty sexy even if there never is an exotic for that slot. :/
I’m seriously hoping they come out with alternate ways to populate the back slot since, while I enjoyed the personal story stuff the first time thru, and there’s some entertainment in the earlier levels where it is truly branched, it’s dreadful repeating from about 50 onward where it all merges together and/or only varies a little in text.
My friends and I play quite a bit, and even grind mobs like the trolls quite a bit, and/or slaughter tons of mobs when we gather in cursed shore. Lots of extra killing. Nobody has ever had an exotic drop yet.
We get them from zone completions – but everybody gets those and they’re not even 80, which is lame, but that’s another story.
If you do get an exotic out and about, consider yourself lucky.
