Unless you’re going to be with a group for roaming T1 is kinda meh.

I’d agree with Arius and say that T3-T4 is probably best for your all purpose roaming tier.

I agree, we have a couple of great small op/havok guilds, and personally I never downplay the value of such groups, they are extremely useful. More is always great.

Who are they? I don’t know of any decent ones on BG besides sometimes [SG], and then JQ had one guild that doesn’t play anymore.

Scrappers got lots of instant stab and options for ranged AoE.

I dont know what you mean with “pushing power”.

Pushing power is basically the ability to absorb damage while dealing forward damage, which is basically exclusive to guardians and warriors right now, though condi reaper can probs pull it off as well.

Reverence is pretty much right on. Also Scrappers have kitten for stability, one 5s stack per gyro activated (none of which stunbreak) which requires you not to take Adaptive Armor (one of their best traits), a 3s stack with a 5 second ICD that requires you to evade an attack from Perfectly Weighted, and the thrown Elixir which has a cast time and again does not stunbreak. So that’s probably 2 stacks of instant stab in an average build (one from bulwark gyro, another from stealth gyro), neither stunbreak and of which one is on a 40s cooldown and the other 20s. You’ll want the thrown elixir for reliability, which leaves you one open spot for another utility (probably toolkit as its your best choice). That is not “lots of instant stab”. So looking at it you don’t have any stunbreaks, low stability, not a ton of cleanse unless some of your other engineers utilize the e-gun. Engineer ranged options are a bit of a joke, the rifle functions best at around 600 range, mortar is very average damage, and grenades are probably going to hurt you more than help with retal being what it is.

Most probably what would happen is someone gets locked into a situation even the passive S won’t save him/her from and then you’re either down a man, or you try to res (gyros are going to be cleaved before they even get 2 ticks of res off) and get locked down yourself. Your group support isn’t enough (not enough cleanse, group stability or protection), and all you’d end up doing is annoying a competent group before they grind you into the dirt.

Edit: Scrapper definitely has a place in 15 man, but putting 15 of one class in any situation where they are facing equal or greater numbers isn’t going to work (assuming people aren’t braindead). The strength of diversified groups is that they have so many options to cover any weak points a certain player/class might have. Your scrapper example is extremely weak to ranged harass (especially against no projectile ranged pressure such as wells, marks, rev hammer abilities, DH longbow #5, etc)

BG and JQ are both pretty pug friendly and always seem to want to fight. YB pug groups can be hit and miss (I’ll be straight with you and say most times its pretty miss). BG is more guild focused (at least during NA time) while JQ leans toward the pug side more. YB is extremely dominant in EU time frame while JQ and BG are pretty dead. I’d have to play OCX to say anything about the time zone.

15 gyro scrappers would permastealth, permadaze, permasuperspeed, permastab, permaheal better than warrior passive, permareflect 360 degrees, permaprotection, a permawaterfield that moves with them, pulls every second and they would also look kitten if all where Asurans.

But nooo… kittenty dragunhunter (charr with backpacks of course) and human reapers (for teh boobies) is the norm.

You can’t pull something like this off because as soon as one person gets picked off, the rest of your group starts to fall apart. A more diverse group is able to cover for weaknesses better, which is why you never saw all guardian zergs, despite how OP they used to be.

… what weakness are you talking about?

Please be specific because I am curious to know what you can come up with that isnt just “now you are 14 instead of 15”, which hurt any group regardless of composition.

Now you don’t have your free getaway besides the 25% threshold S and the enemy frontline rolls into you with Guardian hammer rings, DH leap immobilizes, hammer immobs, and all manner of ranged nonsense. Since necro marks/rev hammer #2/3 aren’t projectiles your reflects are useless against them, and say someone uses Might Signet + Gunflame and oneshots you from 75%. God forbid they have a venomshare and you die inside your elixir S passive. As scrappers your ability to strip any coordianted groups stability is limited to Hammer 5 + 3 combo and without sizable stability nowadays you’ll be CC’d into oblivion.

So far from a YB roamer’s look in at T1 atm…

JQ: Pretty heavy on pugs that organize around a smaller guild core. Have a few pretty big pugmanders that can get a pretty large following easily. A few smaller groups (10 or less) occasionally. Decent NA, overnight presence is pretty good. Not too much to say, JQ is pretty pug oriented with a few guilds/pugmanders organizing them.

BG: Very guild oriented. If BG is out, their big guilds are out. You’ll have a few smaller guilds running 10-15ish on the side that usually partner up with a bigger guild or go do something on the side while the main groups run around. Usually it ends up being around 2 maps (discounting EBG), with 2 guilds on each one. Reset is an exception since that’s a pretty hectic day for BG (lotta peeps errywhere), but activity declines as the week progresses. I don’t really see many commanders rolling around with just a straight up pug group outside of EBG. Passable EU, pretty good NA, overnight is a bit lacking.

YB: Its about a 70/30 split between PPT and fights. There’s pugs everywhere scouting, sieging, and doing god knows what so at least you know where the enemy is most of the time. Pugs aren’t exactly reliable for fighting as they tend to scatter off and get run over a lot. You’ve got about 3 main PPT guilds that do all the PPT stuff, and 2-3 fight guilds rolling around looking for people on an active night. EU/NA is strong, overnight has some people but they’re ridiculously disorganized.

Nothing fancy, just a pretty tanky reaper with Blighter’s Boon (supported by Spite traits, Strength Sigils, and the festive food) for sustain and enough tankiness to keep the fight rolling even when you’re outnumbered. You keep up high might uptime even when you’re not in Reaper Shroud (wherein lies a lot of your damage with this build), and while in Shroud you generally have 25 might almost all the time.

Plenty of damage, decent sustain, invulns/blocks to mitigate damage, good solo/group stealth, and a ton of boons to share. Downsides are it’s not as strong vs condi builds, stunbreaks are low (active S only, have to use the stab throw pre-preemptively), and of course it’s full melee so it can be kited pretty heavily if your opponent really wants to.

I think at the end of the day….

BG, JQ, YB all do the exact same things. The only difference is the amount. I’ve seen all 3 servers hump siege incredibly hard, wipe instantly, backcap and run, etc.

I think the old “Hibergate” nickname still applies to BG. They can come out pretty strong when they want to (reset, etc.). JQ has a pretty similar thing going, but are a bit more PuG oriented from the groups I see out there. YB of course has their sieging and PPT ways. I don’t see as much action on the BL’s many days from JQ and BG (BL hate, ded game, insert other reasons here) compared to YB so that would knock off some potential points from them as well.

Some groups from BG, TC, and JQ moved to YB last year and it got pushed up into T1. Some moved back to their home servers, others to new servers, some are still there.

BG is still pretty active, definitely not as much as before, but most every server has taken a population hit with HoT (and even before).

Looks like the balance patch brought in a bit more life to WvW, seen a lot more groups out (small and large) than before, so roaming has been kicking up the past week or so. About half of the fights shown are pre-patch, but nothing changed for my build.

You’ve got plenty of sustain via Blighter’s Boon and Strength Sigils + Dumpling food, and are very resilient to boot. I’m more of a teamfight oriented player anymore (been there, done that with solo roaming), so if you want you can crank up the damage by tossing in some more zerk. If you need more cleanse, I tend to replace Spectral Armor with Plague Signet since I have a lot of LF regen even without the spectral skill.

Arrowcarts aiming just roots of the walls

Hey guys,

first of all I have to say I am not to experienced about the sieges in WvWvW, I just men them up occasionally just to get an idea how they are working.

So my question is, I was not very active in the new maps, I found them confusing and I don’t enjoy them, so mostly stayed away but yesterday my guild was doing some missions I joined them.

Then we are trying to get some castle/tower (I don’t know) defenders were just aiming the Arrow Cart to the roots of the walls from inside. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t the Arrow Cart need line of sight to aim some point, ballistically it is impossible to land shots there.

I know in the old maps, there are some hacks, like flying in the air and aiming position otherwise impossible to aim, are those sort of hacks still possible?

I mean actually, it should be quite easy to detects those, if somebody is shooting inside of a castle and hits the roots of a wall, isn’t directly a flag for a hack?

Arrow carts should easily be able to land shots down at the base of the wall. There were some Line of Sight issues with arrow carts for a while, but they seem to have been fixed up.

So I had a bunch of questions piling up and was hoping people could provide detailed answers.

1. Lords seem to scale in vitality based on the number of people present. I want to know as much information as possible on how this works. Does scaling occur based on the number of enemies in the fortification, or the number of enemies within a set distance from the lord, or the number of people attacking the lord, or some other measure? When does scaling occur? how does it occur? Stuff like that, all related to this mechanic. Does lord damage increase as well? etc.

2. Related to the last question: Do lords become stronger based on the fortification level of the fortification? Are lords considered to be ‘guards’ and are they upgraded the same as them as per the upgrade descriptions? So basic vs reinforced vs fortified etc. How much does a lord differ on each level, etc.

3. How to determine whether a wall with an hp bar is destroyable or not? Okay contrary to any popular beliefs, my experience is that walls turning indestructible after hitting 0 hp is relatively random. The exception being a handful of specific walls will generally always become indestructible. Examples: Mendons side wall, if its anywhere from 1 -40% in health and it is reinforced of fortified it is likely to be indestructible upon reaching 0%. Same goes for anz and veloka (tiny side wall). Sm walls that come up as 1% or whatever ‘usually’ are all destructible with 1-2 potential exceptions in certain ‘side’ areas. I mean I had both the walls at the side of reinforced klovan at 40% hp become indestructible one time and 2 walls back to back at sm that both went from 40%-0 and were indestructible…it was just weird since i’ve never had that happen with walls that high in hp and especially 2 of them and especially klovan of all places.

4. Related to the third question: Does healing 1% hp walls (glitched walls) make them destructible? My experience is that I’ve seen glitched walls up to about 50% hp. Everything higher has been destructible upon bringing it down to 0. So it begs the question of whether healing past 50% makes otherwise indestructible walls destructible.

5. Okay this is a funner question: On keeps in eternal battlegrounds, what is the best way to destroy the second pot of oil at double gates? Let’s assume you are attacking the double gates with 2 rams that hit both sets of gates at the same time. Bringing down the cannons, mortar (if need be), and first oil pot is pretty straightforward for any group. The second oil pot though let’s assume the group doesn’t have enough aoe users to bring it down or prevent people from using it. Assume alternatively that they have the guild upgrade that reduces nonsiege damage by 75%. So how do you deal with the oil pot? I was wondering if an arrow cart would be effective or not, ballista don’t seem able to reach, (use catapult? lol). The other alternative is to set rams to bring down the 1st gate, such that the 2nd oil can’t hit them, kill the exposed oil once the first gate is down, then make a second set of rams for the 2nd gate. What’s the best method? Basically Green and Blue keep are the two at issue here (red you would obviously bring it down gate by gate). My understanding is that there is no place to set a ram such that it hits both gates and can’t be hit by the 2nd oil. Siege disablers? etc

1. From my own experience, lord breakbar and health both scale up (to a pretty extreme amount sometimes) when players start to approach the gates. This counts both attacking teams, so lord HP will get really insane if there is a 3-way fight. This is especially noticeable in SMC.

2. Not that I’ve noticed. If it does, it is a trivial amount as my 5 man has killed lords at approx the same pace regardless of the fortification level.

3. Haven’t ever encountered the wall bug where it becomes invulnerable. Sometimes the wall HP will deplete, but it doesn’t fall down. However we can just walk through the wall since it technically is down, the graphic just has not changed.

4. Haven’t seen this issue personally.

5. Usually staff eles or the longbow dragonhunters will pew pew this all away and everyone keeps the edge of the wall AoE’d up.

One thing though, dont be afraid using the fear on breaking infusion armor for inturpting heals or skills such heartseek stealth combo ect

Thanks! Normally I will, but the thief near the end was using the dodge to stealth, so I wasn’t just gonna break it for a dodge roll.

Thanks! I think it’s a fairly common trait setup, and a lot of people are using the festive food. The only real difference would probably be gear setup. It does very well in 1v1s and group fights so I’m pretty satisfied with it at the moment.

Tested out Reaper lately and gotta admit that the gameplay felt intriguing. Now, the thing is that I really dislike condi gameplay and everyone seems to be going Carrion or Viper, so I was wondering if there was a build for WvW that can work out for a power necro?

I like the Vid but what happens when u come across a Condi heavy specced class ? you have Putrid Mark and tiny cleanse from Suffer but u have no Signet or CC-Heal or any Condi-Cleanse/transfer trait…

Typically this is a teamfight build, so Suffer will keep me fine. If it becomes a problem I swap Spectral Armor out for Plague Signet.

Curious as to how BG got the trebs on that tower at kain keep in EB.

I’m not sure if you mean how it was put there or how to take them down. There’s a bit of a mini jumping puzzle to get up there, then a mesmer can just port people back and forth. As to how to take them down, there are a number of ways, all kinds of siege or a elementalist that’s part of the way up for example.

I think he means we have too many people and the overconfidence of that is killing us. Or not, but whatever.

You are correct, I merely am stating that we are not used to fighting such a large force during NA prime, and as such are a bit overconfident sometimes. I did not mean to insinuate that we had low numbers, but simply are not quite as cohesive a force as Mag or Dragonbrand is at.

Sadly, our NA is our weak point in regards to numbers, so I really can’t expect too much out of defense during the day time, since we haven’t been put up against a good amount of numbers like Mag can throw out. However, we’re not doing terribly bad against two servers in our BL at once. I’d appreciate everyone getting along and not throwing veiled insults at our coverage/skill.

Not sure if this is directed at me, but I had already stated I find no fault in what PAXA and roaming groups do.

Another fair fight with PAXA today.

To be quite honest, PAXA almost exclusively ganks solo roamers and small groups, that’s what they do best. I don’t begrudge someone from doing what they enjoy. Although it may suck, just take a different route after you res. Roaming groups have their part in WvW, just as zergs do.

We’ve wiped our fair share of zergs too. We are a roaming group. We don’t discriminate though. We attack groups that outnumber us, and we attack individuals. Makes no difference to us. Red = dead.

Fair enough. I like seeing zergs go down to smaller and more coordinated attacks, no matter what side. I feel like people learn to watch and coordinate more from the experience (hopefully). Still appreciate all the awesome fighting going on from NSP and AR, you guys have tenacity in spades.

Intense battle at Danelon and QL over in EB, loved all the fights and keep it up! Anvil Rock had some serious power and we stalemated for a bit, but a good flank saved the day!
