What exactly is “rarer material”? :/
Is it ectos? Higher tier materials? Getting refined items instead of the unrefined?I’ve always interpreted the % on the kits as “% increase to the base rate”.
I don’t understand why they leave this sort of thing ambiguous. -_-
It actually means that the common crafting material that is guaranteed for every salvage (ore/scraps/logs, etc) has a higher chance to drop a common mat that is 1 tier above the salvaged item. So when you salvage a lvl 80 greatsword with a rare or mystic salvage kit, you are supposed to have a 25% chance to get some ori back instead of mithril, regardless of the rarity of the salvaged item.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Hi Guys,
I happen to salvage alot of rare trinkets, usually 500-1000 per week, for a couple of months now. I was usually keeping track of my ecto salvage rate because every now and then people report low rng for ecto salvages. While my ecto salvage rate usually averaged out over a couple of hundred usages, i realised that my salvage rate of orichalcum over mithril ore was nowhere near the 25% stated in the tooltip.
So i started to keep track of it over the last 2 months and from 5000 salvages, only 11.3% produced orichalcum ore, the rest was mithril.
I know that there are some people out there that salvage alot of rares/exotics and i was wondering if they made the same observations.
From my point of view, i would say that the 25% chance to get rarer materials from the Master Salvage Kit is bugged but it could also be that the trinkets in general are buggedin their droprate.
As i dont salvage much rare weapons and armor, i would like to have some feedback on this issue from someone who does.
I gonna start using Mystic Salvage Kits for my next 1k trinkets to see if the droprate of ori is different.
The wiki states that it doesnt matter which rarity the salvaged item has, so i might extend my research to lower rarity items/kits.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvaging
Thx for any feedback
Edit: As there is a perception that all salvage kits seem to have the same drop chance for rarer materials, i will edit this post as i do more research.

Are there any plans to implant Wow like 1 vs 1 duels?
It is a great time sink when waiting for something in-game.This is something i would love to see in Guild Wars 2.
You can do 1v1 duels at your hearts content in your own custom arena.
Spend 1600 gems, invite your friends, knock yourself out.

Please do us all a favour and remove your topic or go back to wow, if this isnt the game for you.

I don’t have an issue with soul bound gear. That’s pretty standard across these types of games. I would like to see a better implementation of easily swapping out the stats on a set of armor. This way we don’t necessarily have to invest an arm, a leg, and our first born child into obtaining more than one set. Mainly thinking ascended here, since my husband when thru and broke everything down and tallied it all up across our characters.
When i hit lvl 80 about a month after release, it took me at least another month, if not longer, to gather enough gold/karma/etc. to get my first full exotic set and the next ones also needed their time. I didnt hear anybody complaining back then that its too hard to gear up different alts in multiple exotic builds.
Just because exotic sets are easy to come by now doesnt mean the same should apply for ascended gear.
Exotics are much easier to get, although sometimes the t6 materials can be a wicked kitten if you don’t have the gold to just buy them. But there is a huge discrepancy between the availability of exotics vs the availability of ascended. You built karma to obtain your exotics. At the present time, ascended can only be crafted, and the leveling of that crafting can be extremely expensive. Drastically more so than a single set, or even several sets of exotics.
I was comparing to exotic gear when the game launched and the months after, when they were best in slot. At that time, it nearly took as much effort to get a full set as it is now with ascended. And Anet stated that the player base got exotics way faster than they anticipated and intended. So it is working as intended that ascended builds take as much time as they do right now.
chuckle
No, it never took as much effort to get exotics as it does to get ascended. However, that’s also due to having so many avenues of acquisition for exotics. Karma, Dungeons, Crafting, straight off the TP…
It’s not quite that simple for ascended. Yes, it’s supposed to take longer, I get that. But it borders on going a bit overboard.
Did you actually play the game in 2012? Exotic gear actually cost more in the first 3 months to craft or buy on the tp than now. And there wasnt that much gold floating around in the first place, so coughing up 4g for an exotic zerker greatsword was alot of money, considering that you got an average of 1 gold for 100 gems in 2012, now you get 6g. It also wasnt easy to farm gold those days as it is now and getting 42k for a single piece of gear took quite a while. Dungeon runs also looked quite a bit different then and took some time as most people were still in masterwork or rare gear and didnt have a clue what they were doing.

I like the idea of account-wide dyes, and to add to your “hairstyle” ideas… I think a cool addition to the Gem Shop would be to add an account bound “Hairstylist” that can be conjured (with unlimited uses) and this stylist would have all hairstyles, plus the new ones added in the makeover kit (plus colors). They could sell this for say…800-1000 gems and each use costs a certain amount to use. Maybe 1 gold per use. For an indecisive person like myself, I’m constantly wanting to change my character’s appearance…I would DEFINITELY buy something like this.
Considering that the Permanent Hair Stylist Contract (unlimited uses) has its highest bid at 2500 Gold on the Trading Post, 800-1000 gems for an item like that is quite unrealistic.

Ah, the logic…This is a good change. Legendary weapons should require participation in all aspects of the game.
Then i suggest making a minimum AP requirements as well. Is 10k enough? Or maybe we should go higher?

What I propose it is that there is an available racial kit of transformation for those who wishes use it and those who wishes to keep their character as it stands is not to oblige to buy it.
Roughly: Have the possibility of choosing to change or not.
Personally, the race is a component of the character, as its class, its name, its sex, its haircut, his guild etc…
Wait, who ever mentioned mandatory race changes?
I know that real life comparisons with a game should always be taken with a grain of salt but right now it is possible to change your character, your class/profession, your name, your haircut, even your sex in real life.
But a race change? Only 1 person pulled it off and we all know how Michael Jackson ended up.

Still running tests. So far the Watchwork Pick has returned 0 bonus ores. The acquisition rate of sprockets though… those things will absolutely never gain any value with these picks in the game.
Considering that every exotic zealot armor and weapon item needs 500 sprockets and every trinket 750, you are looking 8750 sprockets for a whole set.
Then you still have the jubilee recipes which are profitable to craft.
I am quite certain they will rise again, once the first OP zealot builds are discovered.
I bought 50 stacks of sprockets for 20c in september and sold some when they rose to 1s. What i had left, i refined now into mechanisms which saves me lots of space.
I also invest in buying new mechanism and exquisite sprockets now as they are available and nearly 50% crafting value right now.

Yes but I’m not or ever been in favor is speed leveling. An RPG is meant to by played as an exploration/adventure game, not a spreadsheet of optimal builds, fast leveling, speed runs and even “best farms”.
Except MMO players in general have been conditioned to play only one way with Flavor of the Month builds and choosing content solely on ROI calculations to minimize time while maximizing reward because in reality they don’t want to play the whole game anymore because all the good stuff is at max level/zones right?
It’s like reading a who done it and you jump to the end as soon as the crime is discovered. It’s like the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation when Data and Geordi were playing Holmes and Watson on the holodeck. Data kept solving the adventure 30 seconds after it starts instead of going through it. The notion that there is a quantitative “best way” to play drives me nuts.
This thread isn’t about earning enough to buy linen at it’s current value, it’s about why it got there and how to fix it.
If you’re not on your first or second character, then leveling is boring. The hearts, the DEs, the vistas are all the same as at launch. And it’s not as if you need 80 levels to learn and explore your profession — the number of skills each character has access to is very small; the number of combinations of those skills is small as well.
And if you mainly play WvW, it’s an awful experience waiting for your new toon to finally get up to 80.
That’s why I champ farm all the way up.
How much hours does it take to champ farm to 400?

187 crucial T6 mats out of 1500 bags. I’d say I’m shocked at how low it is, but I’m not. Not anymore.

The lowest buy offer was 2 copper below the current sell price, there was no gap so I just bought them. They averaged about 5.8 silver per bag (1500 bags @ 87 gold). This was an experiment about the drop rates and not about making money, I am actually glad I didn’t lose more, I was set to lose about 10 as an acceptable amount for the test.

Follow up as well. Everything sold from the bags AT A LOSS of 6 gold. That’s not that bad for the amount of data I got. Considering it’s a RNG engine, that’s within 10% of purchase price AND I lost 15% to BLTP. Those out there that say flipping is bad for the economy, my loss makes your money stronger, if only microscopically.
Without the fees the gross sale and the actual items cost break even so I got the value I paid but with no time to allow the mats to grow value, they sold immediately for the loss.
Based on 1499 bags opened, my drop rate is slightly higher with what ANet says it should be. At .002% (2 tenths of 1%), that works out to 2 per thousand bags…..

Is there a link to the breakdown? I had thought they just tiered downward, overlapping, as the heavy ones do. More research needed, man there is a lot to this game.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Container
Keep in mind though, that not all loot tables are stated accurate. I got more than a dozen items dropping from various bags that were not listed on their loot tables on the wiki. Also, alot of containers arent covered at all on the wiki.
One bag actually drops lemongrass but there are not many of it on the TP. I forgot which one it was, as i only opened 50 of it that i got over 2 weeks of posting the highest bid. I made some profit of those bags but as the lowest seller was ~5 times higher than the highest bid and considering the low droprate, it was just not worth putting in buy orders. Might have been one of the Skritt Shinies or the Treat Sack (which isnt even listed on the wiki)
If the droprate of Giant Eyes isnt high enough for you, just go out in the world and try to find the Inquest Asurans that drop Bags of Laboratory Material, which currently has 37 buy orders sitting at over 1.5g (11g lowest seller), then buy giant eyes from the profit.

Darn. After reading this whole thread and watching the hysteria build higher and higher, I think the Devs are not saying anything because they are afraid to say anything.
Despite what I said in an earlier thread about people wanting to become Sprocket trillionaires when the quantity of sprockets in the trading house dry up, I do know you all are afraid, some quite terrified, that Anet will keep on adding Pay To Win extras in future gathering tools.
I am an older Player. As such, I have learned somethings are just not worth getting in a stew about. I have seen my parents get older, I have seen my better half have a stroke and almost die, My beloved cat did die…This pick, and the threat of future gathering tools with perks in the gem store, to me, is not something to lose sleep over.
If worse comes to worse and Anet does indeed put infinite gathering tools with small perks in the gem store then you all will do one of two things. You will either ragequit, or you will put on your big boy/girl pants and deal with it…maybe skip going out for lunch one day and bring a sack lunch. At today’s prices, the cost of a lunch is darn near the cost of a gathering tool.
Anet, what you can do to calm people in this thread, at least I think it will help calm people, is change the drop tables of all the gathering tools to include sprockets and whatever other goodies you add to future tools.
And come out and talk to us. I think you need to.

I have no clue about coding or how difficult it would be to implement, but WHY is there no 5 guildies vs 5 guildies in sPvP? It seems like it would be an easy thing to do because there are already 5 person teams in PvP. So why is it we cannot make a 5 person team of our guild members to match up against another guild?
You can do that with a private arena.
