Path of Fire Stress Test August 31, 2017

Ok. Let’s all make minion masters, equip minis and concentrate in one point and use all of our skills at the same time.

That would be awesome, everyone do that

Wait really? Is this really what you want people to do?

We’re trying to stress test, things that put stress on the servers are encouraged. We would also like you to play as you would on day one. We are looking for the performance issues that Gaile talked about in the initial post, but if a bunch of players want to get creative I’m the last person to tell them not to!

But again, as Gaile said, be prepared performance issues, but as this is a stress test, lets stress things.

If you run into bugs or weirdness, take into account that we are doing a stress test, but you can always use /bug in game. We have people who look at those reports on a regular basis.

I guess there will be a feedback thread during the stress test, so maybe its a good idea, if you can give us a little template on how we should report, if we plan some crazy stuff with info on shard IP, time and what exactly we were doing.

As a trader, I sometimes have very long loot queues rolling down on the right side of my screen, for example when opening 5k lootbags or using salvage all on 5k bloodstone-warped hides.

After a couple of thousand items scrolled through my screen, my framerate drops until it freezes at some point, unless I reset the loot queue by waypointing.

Most of those performance issues are probably caused by my side due to hardware limitations, depending on which computer I am playing.

But sometimes, especially if i just afk after opening/salvaging a big sample size and let my loot queue run out, which has taken more than 30 minutes on occassions, I come back to the game and see complaints from other players in map or say chat reporting performance issues as well during that time. Keep in mind that I usually do that in DR and not on a full pve or wvw map.

So I always wondered, wether my loot queue also might put alot of stress on the servers and create performance issues for other players as well.

I could probably manage to get a good sample size of containers and salvage items to do some testing during the stress test.

Or I just try how many wintersday gifts I can open while doing the race.

I´d wager you a Hardened leather-padded Mystic Coin that I can manage 10 stacks of Wintersday Gifts and a Top 5 Finish.

If not, I just blame performance issues and rage quit.

Keep in mind that even if you unlock the trading post after a few days/week on a f2p account, you will only be able to buy and sell a limited amount of different items, for example basic materials or crafted gear. Lots of stuff, like containers, fluff items etc will be greyed out and you wont be able to trade them unless you upgrade that account.

Runes and Sigils

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

I save a few, vendor the cheap ones, sell the ones I can on the TP.

I wish Anet would just make them salvage into dust or something.

Dust, Lodestones, Leather, anything. Just make them salvageable so you can get SOME value out of the 90% that are useless.

you already get value for 100% from the vendor, which you can use towards lodestones, leather or anything else that costs gold.

The biggest problem Anet is facing in finding a proper solution to the upgrade component system are the constant faucets from salvaged gear and I agree with them that just putting in additional sinks isnt a good solution, they have to adjust the faucets.

The reason why we have to wait for so long are probably the technical difficulties in doing just that. They would have to adjust the ratio of trash gear from mob drops, which would mean that they have to adjust one of the biggest loot tables in game on tens of thousands of different mobs that have been in game for over 5 years.

Thats alot of old code and I can understand that Anet is reluctant to tackle that as their systems have changed so much over the years.

But after having a good look into the pve demo and reward systems of the new map, I think there is hope on the horizon.

All new mob families (Ipoca, Choya, Forged etc.) will drop unidentified gear now instead of the random trash gear (up to precursor) that we are used to get, the same goes for the new champ bags, unid gear instead of trash gear.

Apart from all the QoL advantages for players that unid gear offers, it will also be a great tool for Anet to finally fix the rune and sigil market without disrupting too much markets or programming required because that huge loot table I was talking about was moved onto unid gear, a single item.

I am pretty sure that once we get a proper sample size of identified gear (I only IDed 90)
we will see that they already adjusted that huge loot table which formerly produced so many new runes and sigils and we will see way less of those when identifying gear.

This is a huge change to the loot and reward system and every time you are out in the Crystal Desert chopping choya salad, you wont get ANY more sigil or rune drops that flood your inventory. Once you go back into town, you wont get many trash runes and sigils when you decide to identify it and you will get only common mats, if you decide to salvage them directly (no essences of luck either, that is only gained through identification).

The same goes for new champ bags. If you rushed through the PoF maps and already killed the legendary choya bounty 1000 times because of lack of content, you can probably open those 1000 new champ bags in one go, if you 50 free slots in your inventory and once you are done, you can free up 40 of those slots simply by depositing your crafting materials, if you have enough space in your storage.

With a clean inventory of 160 slots you can probably open between 10k champ bags without having to clear your inventory.

I fully expect Anet to expand this unid gear system to other parts of the game, not only new mobs in PoF, after the initial trial and they collected enough data for further implementation.

Tips for Amalgamated Gemstones?

The 10 recipe generates 10 or 25 not to. Same goes for the 1 recipe, it generates 1 or 5

I have misinterpreted the “10 – 25” the wiki shows. So has anyone ever got 25? I wonder how rarely this occurs then. I’m sure I would reach the number of gemstones I need before I ever see those 25. Not going to craft 100 times to see if it happens once, don’t even have the gold for that.

Twice in my recent forging. That is from somewhere between 5 and 10 tries.

If you ignore the rare outcomes the 10 recipe is also cheaper than the 1 recipe.
9 orbs + .55 ecto for the 1 recipe when ignoring the rare outcome
8.33 orbs + .5 ecto for the 10 recipe when ignoring the rare outcome

If you dont ignore the rare outcome (10%) and you make 10 forges each,

the dust recipe yields 14 AG for 90 upgrade components (6.43 per AG)

the ecto recipe yields 115 AG for 750 upgrade components (6.52 per AG)

so the dust recipe actually yields more AG per UG and costs less dust/ectos

Legendary armor acquisition in PoF

Has there been any news on whether legendary armor will be acquirable through other means such as PvP or WvW? Thats pretty much the only news I’m interested in for PoF and would be a complete game-changer!

As already mentioned, legendary pvp and wvw armor is being released today. Keep in mind that its a feature that requires you to have HoT and it is not linked with PoF.

Analysis of poss. upgrade reqs for wvw armor

in WvW

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I had a good look at what might be required to upgrade our wvw armor from ascended to legendary and posted my findings on the economy subreddit but thought I post a link here, as not many of you might frequent that subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gw2economy/comments/6s0sxx/speculation_about_material_requirements_for/

Quick TL/DR:

  • 18 different wvw precursor pieces currently cost 1280g and take 22 weekly resets if you get 175 tickets per week
  • 18 different pve precursor pieces currently cost 640g and also take 22 weekly resets if you get 13 LI per week
  • Upgrade costs for wvw leggie armor might be a little cheaper than for pve to balance the higher acquistion costs for precursors
  • Gift of Craftsmanship is a candidate to be scratched (gift of battle instead) if they want to lower the acquistion costs. Another possible scenario is introducing different Provisioner Tokens that can be obtained by trading in crafted rare armor and weapons at provisioners in each of the 12 keeps and maybe sm
  • Mystic Clovers will be needed as well but easier to acquire in wvw through reward tracks, so this might balance acquistion costs already
  • Gifts of Condensed Might and Magic will stay and be the main gold sink
  • Gift of Prowess will be the same and act as timegate of 2 weeks, so 350 skirmish tickets instead of 25 LI
  • Gift of Dedication will be bought from vendor, most likely for badges, proofs of heroics and memories of battle. 4th ingredient will either be an rng trophy from mobs (Hylek Tongues, Ogre Tooths, Legendary Spikes etc.) or they will split the timegate between gift of prowess and dedication, so 175 tickets each.

When cced, you can’t enter the glider in PvE maps, not sure exactly how it’ll act in WvW.

It will function the same in WvW. So if you are knocked back while in gliding you will fall to your death.

Does the splash damage from catapult and treb projectiles only proc when hitting environmental structures or also player hitboxes while flying?

Would love to hurl some rocks at the enemy blob, when they are gliding past my shiny castle.

Shield Generators should get a 3d update too, so you can place barriers into the air.

Reason why backpack sales are so low

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

It’s because we can’t recolor them. They simply don’t fit the armors if they have different colors and as a result nobody’s buying them judging by your backpack discounts spam lately.

And yes, I’m aware that it would need some work to teach your old game engine to recolor backpacks, but the point is, until that work is done, very few people bother to buy them. It’s that simple.

So yeah, the choice is yours a-net, either make them worth buying or enjoy low sales.

Its not a clearance sale because nobody is buying them. That is only neccessary, if your unsold stock takes up too much storage, which isnt the case because they dont take up any.

2k gold for legendary accessory

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

first of all, the mat costs also include 221 mystic coins for clovers. While in the early days you had to forge the clovers and therefore needed those coins, you can get clovers from many different sources now and dont have to spend gold for them.

About the comparison to legendary armor prices:

A full set of leggie armor only works for 3 of 9 classes, so to cover all classes, like the trinket, you would need 3 sets, so the price seems fine.

Scythe, 6K gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Again, and again, this is not about uniquety or rarity of the specific skin, but about the fact that it’s the only normal scythe skin in game, and there’d be zero problem if there was an alternative. And although I played actively since beta there was never a surefire method to acquire this skin.

And the reason it bothers me it’s because I main a necromancer and is there anything more cruel than playing a necromancer when anet constantly swings a “ha ha, can’t have a scythe” sign in your face

Again and again you fail to see that there are two versions of this skin, which look exactly the same, the scythe staff skin consumable from Halloween, which you keep rabbling about and the Scythe Staff Weapon, which is a rare drop from forging 4 rare staves and therefore still available in the game.

Use for HoT ascended crafting materials.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

So i was thinking about what we can do with materials such as Ley Line Sparks, Airship Oil and Pile of Auric dust as you get insane amounts of those when you open chests on HoT maps. If you are not upgrading guild hall their only usage is to make fulgurite and i don’t think that you need a couple of stacks of those constantly(at least i don’t). That’s why this materials usually end up taking a lot of inventory space or just getting destroyed.

These materials werent primarily introduced as loot (thats why they are account bound and not tradeable) but to make sure that you complete a certain amount of certain game content in order to achieve certain goals. Therefore they have a very specific function inside the game economy. Once you earned enough of these for your own needs, they completed their task and become more or less worthless.

Their acquisition methods and faucets werent designed to be interchangeable with tradeable loot (or currencies that can be exchanged for tradeable items).

Considering that you arent the only players that by now accumulated large piles of these materials, the chance of Anet giving them a worthwhile new faucet besides the intended one are pretty slim to none because it would mean that plenty of players that are hoarding these materials will suddenly be rewarded (in bulk) for past playing time, which would give veterans a large advantage over new players.

The only problem here seems to be your inability to delete stuff in your inventory that you dont need anymore because you feel entitled to gain value from it.

Loot quality, Magic find, Please explain..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As mentioned above, Magic Find works primarily when killing enemies in Core Tyria maps.

If you want to see it in action, buff it all the way and run events that spawn tons of mobs in Cursed Shore.

So it only effects farming and trains? If so then why is worldboss loot so horrible? They chose to give us trash over and over?

No, it doesnt only affect farming and trains it only affects loot dropped from killed mobs directly, not sure what is unclear about that. I dont know why you expect your loot quality from world bosses to go up, if you only kill 4 world bosses per hour and most of the loot is rewarded for the event completion through the final chest and other pop up daily chests.

The wvw tickets have arguably the longest timegate on them. I can get the required 1310 tickets for a full set in 50 days due to the weekly timegate, so it comes down to 184 t5 sections per day. This might be doable, if your server has a good Kill/Death ratio and you run with the zerg. I will double check that today after reset and let you know, how many t5 leather i got after 4 hours (2 skirmishes).

Attached is a screenshot of my common material storage after 4 hours of wvw after reset on friday. Everything in that tab except the spools, flax fibre and seeds and pigments were earned through wvw.
For the first skirmish, i was on an enemy border and even though we had a zerg, enemy blobs outnumbered us and we didnt get too much kills and focussed on ppt. After nearly 2 hours my EB queue popped and i got more kills. After 4 hours, i had round 400 kills. I nearly completed a full hero weapon reward track and got around 350 reward pips.

All containers i got in the process were opened and all gear salvaged, except rare staves and gs and exotic weapons.

I ended up with 63 t5 leather, which is far from the 200 i need for my daily cooldown.

Loot quality, Magic find, Please explain..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

The age old Gamers Lament is “This loot s…”. Okay, to some extent this will never change. But, with the advent in game of Magic Find, I thought this would change to a degree. I have wondered how much magic find is needed, but started salvaging etc, bringing mine up, albeit slowly, it is increasing. I then heard of players with 300% MF still getting bottom of the barrel loot. I understand you won’t get a precursor drop every kill, but at some point will I see more Exotics? As is I have seen maybe 5 in 6 months. Is that normal? I am currently 122%. Interesting how it says “Increases your chance to find RARE items” lol

In general, high magic find makes a noticable difference. The problem is that Anet kinda changed, how loot is rewarded in the last 2-3 years, so the average player gets loot in a way that isnt affected by magic find.

With very few exceptions (pvp reward track containers, SW) magic find only applies to loot dropped directly by killed enemies. In the early days high mf was great because we mostly farmed scaled up event chains that spawn tons of mobs to kill.

Then, Anet introduced Champion bags, so your main loot came from the champ bag and not from the mob kill itself, so it wasnt affected by magic find (and gold find) anymore.

And with HoT Anet moved nearly all loot rewards away from mob kills and to containers or pop up chests after event completion, the HoT map metas are a prime example.

If you join the Assault on Tarir in Auric Basin after the pre-events are done (those still spawn mobs that drop loot directly), nearly all your loot will come from pop up chests after completion and the looting of the exalted chests. Alot of that loot will also be containers and all of these reward mechanics arent affected by mf or gf.

So for most of the content players play these days, mf isnt very effective because it only affects the droprate of maybe 10-25% of the loot they get.

I think mf is most beneficial in wvw, if you have a decent kill ratio per hour and I think there is still some scaled-up event farming in Orr going on, where i would buff my MF.

SSC is also a good place to farm with high MF because the mobs have fairly small loot tables to begin with but its rarely been done.

Karkas have 2 kinds of vendor trophies (copper value) on the common loot table, then they have karka shells (10s) and t5 blood (1.5s) on the uncommon loot table and t6 blood (35s) on the rare loot table. And veteran karkas give a guaranteed drop of one karka shell as well.

I am always amazed that the WBT just moves on to the next world boss after the karka queen is defeated, instead of steamrolling the scaled up reclaim event in steampipe steading, which can give you 50-100 karka kills easily, if done right. I done it a couple of times, while tagged up and usually my loot from that event far exceeded the loot i got from killing the karka queen in value.

I doubt that most regular players earn enough t5 leather directly to craft one spool of elonian cord per day (200 sections).

They still likely earn t5 at a rate fast enough compared to t2,t3,t4 that they can make elonian cords faster than convert those cords to squares. It’s that conversion part that will hold them more than availability of cords.

I disagree. The Blended Leather Sheet, which is used for the grandmaster marks instead of Elonian Leather Squares, uses 50% less t2-4 leather but 130% more t5 leather, so Anet considerably tilted mat requirements for ascended armor crafting away from t2-4 and towards t5.

Those require also special content currency on top of marks. Getting this currency again will likely take longer than getting t5.

Not sure why you bring up the special content currencies, as they have no influence on the ratio between t5 and lower tier leather for grandmaster marks but lets have a look anyways.

For the 1200 ascended shards of glory you need for a full set of ascended armor, you need to repeat the byzantum reward track 8 times in 20 days in pvp, as there are no daily timegates involved, this isnt an issue. However, getting 9200 t5 leather sections (460 per day) for the medium set through pvp rewards will be quite a challenge imho.

The 88 fractal research pages can be obtained in 22 days, so you got 2 more days to earn your 9200 sections and only need 418 per day. This amount isnt obtainable by daily fractal runs.

Just some additional info on the grandmaster mark crafting/vendor system:

Tailor and Armorsmith Marks require an additional asc cloth/metal, while the leatherworker mark doesnt require an extra blended leather sheet, therefore the timegate on a light and heavy set is 40 days, not 20, unless you pay a premium on the tp for other peoples timegated mats.

Leather isnt only used for ascended armor but every weapons mark as well (1 each asc wood/metal/leather) and every huntsman weapon will require even more t5 leather for the weaponized cured thick leather square, so an asc torch will cost you 1080 thick leather sections.

When they introduced the grandmaster mark system a couple of months ago, I compared the material requirements (and prices) to craft 1 full set each of light/medium/heavy armor through the traditional crafting system and the grandmaster mark system, I attached my spreadsheet with the data. The material prices might be out of date so take them with a grain of salt but the volumes are still the same. With Grandmaster Marks, you need a total of 64200 thick leather/silk/mithril instead of 42700 but you only need 12200 t2-4 leather/cloth/metal instead of 18380.

So while your original statement I disagreed with (that t2-4 and t6 is the bottleneck, not t5) is true for traditional crafting, its a completely different story for the new grandmaster mark system. Taking the numbers from my spreadsheet, to craft 1 set each through traditional crafting, 48% of the material costs went into t2-4 and t6 common mats and only 30% into t5 common mats. For the grandmaster marks, 51% go into t5 mats and only 28% into t2-4 and t6.

I disagree. The Blended Leather Sheet, which is used for the grandmaster marks instead of Elonian Leather Squares, uses 50% less t2-4 leather but 130% more t5 leather, so Anet considerably tilted mat requirements for ascended armor crafting away from t2-4 and towards t5.

Right now, a grandmaster leatherworker mark costs around 18.5g in materials on buy order and 9.3g are for t5 leather only, t2-4 only costs you 2.2g. It also has become less of a hassle for end game players to earn t2-4 leather directly, since the first episode of LS3 (introduction of unstable hides) and especially episode 4 (blood-stone warped hides).

No, I meant that most players at end game will spend more gold on t5 leather than t6 because ascended gear doesnt really need t6 leather at all but huge amounts of t5 leather.

For the most players however t5 likely doesn’t need to be bought at all. It’s the other tiers that are in short supply.

Personally, i have never enough of t2,t3,t4,t6, but my bank slot for t5 skins is always full. I don’t need more of those at all.

It’s the t2,t3,t4 that are a chokepoint for ascended armor crafting, and it’s t6 that is required for insignias for stat switching. t5 is almost never an issue.

The droprate of t6 leather from unstable hides (LS3 event rewards and drops from white mantle) is considerably higher.

Yes, those have a much better tier salvage ratios than bloodstone hides. Unfortunately, the farm area is probably the worst place on the map to get them (well, lake doric in general is not the best place to farm those)

Well, for long time veterans like us, t6 leather is more of a concern because we usually already have all the ascended sets we need and just switch their stats around.

The exotic insignia we need for that is still considered exotic crafting and not ascended.

I was more referring to end game players that are working on their first couple of ascended sets.

Long time veterans already got a huge QoL when Anet introduced stat switching, so I am fine with the ~100g it costs, otherwise we wouldnt be paying anything anymore in terms of gear acquisition, which would widen the wealth gap between newer players and veterans.

I dont think economic policy should be geared towards long term veterans.

But if you are working on your first ascended sets, t5 leather currently makes up more than 50% of the material costs for a medium set and more than 25% for light and heavy sets, so its the top expense for all three.

I doubt that most regular players earn enough t5 leather directly to craft one spool of elonian cord per day (200 sections).

Since the wvw update, prices for t5 leather already rose by 50% (from 1.5s to 2.25s), which also made medium ascended armor obtained through grandmaster leatherworker marks 25% more expensive. Yet you dont hear anybody complain about it and the general focus is on the price of t6 leather.

If you personally have more need for t6 leather than t5 and t5 keeps piling up in your storage, this is indeed good news for you as well.
Because from the gold you get from selling your t5 leather, you can now buy 50% more t6 leather on the market than a month ago, which is a huge difference.

Actually, that’s not true. If they had created a hardened-only farm, it would have had the drop rate about the same as it does now. So, players would only receive hardened scraps occasionally, and nothing the rest of the time.

What they did is fill out the rest of the salvages with other kinds of leather.

So, the solution would be to simply change the ratio, if the farm were the only change made. (Other ideas above are better, however.)

Well, that would depend on how exactly they made the leather farm work, I suppose. I think it would have had better results if, instead, the Centaur boss at the top of the Watchtower was changed to a sort of world boss-style encounter. Each day, you receive an item similar to the Hero chests from the HoT metas from which you can pick a “Large Bundle of X Leather” of the tier you need. The random centaurs you kill going up the slopes still drop their Bloodwarped Hides, but this way, they are no longer the primary source of the leather you require.

@Wanze: I suppose if you vastly increased the supply of Thick Leather, you could then transmute it to Hardened Leather through the Forge, so yes, I guess you’re right.

No, I meant that most players at end game will spend more gold on t5 leather than t6 because ascended gear doesnt really need t6 leather at all but huge amounts of t5 leather. And the droprates from bloodstone-warped hides reflects that.

The droprate of t6 leather from unstable hides (LS3 event rewards and drops from white mantle) is considerably higher.

I think its great that these salvage items drop all tiers of mats because it means you can finally farm lower tier common mats in lvl 80 maps and dont have to use unintended workarounds like forging karma gloves for linen or opening champ bags on lower tier alts.

I dont think we should give that convenience up just for a higher droprate of t6 leather.

Personally, I felt that the leather farm failed because it didn’t give players the ability to DIRECTLY farm the leather they needed. (Mainly, Hardened leather.) Nobody likes having to go through RNG after a farm to see if you MAYBE get the item you need.

I would argue that people need mainly thick leather and not hard leather.

you are completely right, if you completely disregard all the loot and rewards you get along the way, while completing all these paths.

And if you care to read all the conversations going on and watch the npcs and cutscenes (YES, WATCH CUTSCENES!!), you get alot of Story and Lore along the way.

Just to throw it out there but it was most likely a revenant with infuse light as warriors generally run healing signet instead of defiant stands.

So before you reroll a revenant and make it because getting healed instead of taking damage is super awesome you should know the power build gets roflstomped by all condi builds pretty much. The condi build gets eaten alive by most power builds and all necros.

It’s ok if you have someone to cleanse and heal you but otherwise life is going to suck for a revenant.

i run defiant stance all the time.

So its a very serious issue not a lot of people will beable to craft not only exotic but also ascended that requires this leather nore level their crafting skills.

Crafting ascended gear doesnt really require much t6 leather, only for the exotic insignia, if that one is also crafted.

Using the grandmaster mark system and the pvp/fractal vendors doesnt require any t6 leather.

How big of a market crash with sigil swapping?

I wonder how big of market crash would sigil swapping introduce and how bigger than the foob buff crash would be. Really makes me Thonk.

There wasnt a food buff crash to begin with, unless I missed something spectacular.
Sure, seaweed salad took a 50% value dive with the balance patch but other food has seen value spikes instead.

Its pointless to compare these markets anyways because they are completely different in functionality.

If you want, you can compare the rune market to the sigil market and i would say that plenty more players have at least one legendary weapon compared to those that have legendary armor, so any effects that rune swapping will have, will be bigger for sigil swapping.

Untying build craft from the economy

Build diversity to try out new builds is quite cheap in gw2, it only becomes expensive , if you want BiS gear and a popular build.

About 2/3 of all tradeable exotic sigils are available for less than 10 silver for example, and for some stat combinations, you can get a full set of exotic armor for 4g on the trading post.

exotics dont give you an accurate comparison of relative power. if i feel like my power thief is under performing, and i want to try condition, bringing exotics is not going to be better than a full ascended zerker. If i use exotic marauder, the trade off probably wont be worthwhile.
etc.
exotics are fine for leveling, but when you want to see what your jobs are capable of they are pretty poor.

not sure if you are trolling or just chose the wrong words.

Regarding the first paragraph, thats exactly what i meant. If you want to min/max different builds, you are aiming for BiS gear and the most popular builds, so you gotta pay up. If you want to switch from a power build because you want to try out a condi build, there are plenty available for 10-20g.

The last sentence of your post cant be serious though, if you think that ascended gear is required to participate in end game content, once you hit 80 and done leveling in your exotics.

How did you manage to get all your toons from 1-60 before HoT, when exotic gear was only available after lvl 60?

There’s no point of a balance patch right before new specializations are introduced with the expansion coming.

Getting an expansion in October means another 5 months at least.

We got 2 balance patches in the last 5 months, wfich are usually done a couple of weeks after a pvp season finished.

I expect another 2 balance patches between now and the expansion, with the first one coming in 9 or 16 days.

Currencies are not crafting materials

According to the lead dev for material storage, this might be something they can’t undo.
…but I really hope they can. Those items should have been put into the Wallet.

And honestly, the Wallet needs a bit of a UI upgrade, if only to sort/separate the various currencies by source (dungeon, LS2, LS3, etc).

Proofs of Heroics were tokens and turned into a currency you acquire by right click —> add to wallet. They’re glorified tokens now, I imagine it’s doable.

Either way, I’d rather have by bank slots and inventory slots free again, especially with a new map token. I boycotted Lake Doric in protest of the continuing clogging of my inventory. That issue has gone away now.

Its doable but they won’t do it. Lindsey mentioned that they were intentionally made into items because “there’s a lot more things you can do with an itemDef than with a currencyDef”

I think the technical limitation with items in the wallet is that they can only interact with vendors, not crafting stations.

I suspect that database is probably skewed towards players who think of the game as a hobby. Hobbyists will tend to spend more time in a game than those who view the game as merely a pastime. I suspect that pastime players cba to register on such sites. Whether pastime players would have a lower MP average than hobbyists seems likely, but who knows?

Economics of Mystic Coin & Hardened Leather

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I’ve been so badly hurt financially when I’ve sold off stuff in previous years only to then need 1000s of it to craft something, that I hoard everything!! Pretty much every single crafting mat from the dregs to the very most expensive, I keep. I have a storage expansion to 500, when I hit that, I transfer to mules, & keep on filling up. I have ten of thousands of some mats. I don’t care, never again will I be pray to TP manipulators, recipe changes & new items spiking stuff. It’s a false economy when so much can be manipulated by wealthy players. I remember the very early days when it all started, when leg weps & precursors were simply bought out by a few players & then drip-fed back into the market when required. It happens all the time with everything that has any value, low to high. So now, I simply save absolutely everything.

You definitely take this to the extreme, but you point out a valid concern that a lot of players have regarding “hoarding” their items.

Anet has a history, especially in the last few years, of introducing new recipes/changing old recipes to require absolutely massive amounts of some mats. So why on earth would we have an incentive to sell something it, at any time, Anet could change a recipe to now require hundreds, or even thousands, of whatever items we just dumped our entire stock of? For a lot of players this risk isn’t worth the temporary reward of a few more silver, or a few more gold, because it has the potential to cost them way more than what they make in the long run.

Please give me an example of recipes that require thousands of one material.
