Just to ask, did they ever claim legendaries would be less expensive than they were previously? They’ve just made the system feel more rewarding and more progressive than before. In fact it’s cheaper

wait for the Acquisition panel to load and click on SL for shopping list.

It is considerably cheaper to craft dusk compared to buying it from the tp

Of course, and it’s the only exception -along with Bifrost and its limited supply- thanks to Dawn. They both have the same crafting requirements, however the demand for Dusk will always be higher because it’s dark and edgy, and that’s the only thing you can back for this crafting system.

And Zap.
And Spark.

Which were the only ones being profitable to mass forge before as well.

Because all other precursors are undervalued on the tp.

A Balanced Economy

I made over 1,000 gold this Wintersday selling the 20+ stacks of Sigils of Mischief and Runes of Snowfall I had stashed in a guild bank for over a year, alongside several piles of leather, Mystic Coins, and a lot of other investments that have not yet peaked (or they may never). I bought the Sigils and Runes for 2 copper each, they’re now worth 50 silver because of a patch. The Mystic Coins were purchased for 75 copper when I got them – they were at 34 silver when I sold 2000 of them, because this patch also created demand for them.

This kind of long term speculation with large quantities of bottomed out commodities isn’t possible without multiple personal guild banks to hold 200 stacks of goods each. However, obtaining a fully upgraded personal guild bank is no longer feasible.

Previously, you could achieve this for about 70 gold in influence purchases, or by soloing Guild Bounty Practices for 3000 influence each.

I argue the economy isn’t balanced, because there now exist two classes of player – one that can store massive quantities of a commodity without even thinking about it – and another that will never be able to do this.

I can tell you all now that Silver is bottomed out around 10-14c, and it will shoot up to at least 10x that price when something comes in a patch that requires it, but only a small percentage of people can take advantage of this by banking 100g worth of it, and you can’t join that club anymore.

You can still buy stuff and relist it immediately in high quantities.

GW2 2016... A message to devs and players

I like how you used the word “you”… More players than I share this sentiment…

Yup more investment would be great…

You should maybe look at the bigger picture here Wanze.

Thanks for reading it finally instead of telling me to “buy more gems”…

You better buy some more gems because if you think that NCSoft will butter some more money into GW2, you might have to wait for GW3 for that to happen.

Wanze, these are the game boards so I’m using this medium constructively… Your arguments are null and void. Thanks. I’m not going to negotiate ncsoft’s role anymore or use of these forums unnecessarily. There are bigger messages to discuss.

You yet have to lay out how their statement, which you based your OP on, is related to development of the game and not marketing costs.

Cost effective marketing has nothing to do with the flaws you see in this game.

The conference call didn’t say that they were looking to do something like reinvest into their games to increase long term revenue and earnings now did they? Right?

Instead they are building a new mobile studio, has 60 employees out of the planned 100 and leveraging (gambling with) a new ip instead of propping up their current bread winners…

Gw2 is an amazing game in ways and just added 2 million new users since play for free and has a 3.1 million monthly concurrency rate now… So maybe time to reinvest and boost momentum and staying power and growing power for gw2 into 2016…

It’s simple to separate “cost efficiency” and “reinvest”… It’s pretty self explanatory… The rest is just PR money talk mumbo jumbo for people who look at their accounting statements wondering what happened… It’s different for the boots on the ground…

Then i dont know why you claim cost efficiency is the root of all evil, if its the lack of reinvestment.

If you want reinvestment, say so. Just because it wasnt mentioned in a transcript from a conference call made by an mmo fansite, doesnt mean they dont do it.

You can claim its PR mumbo jumbo but then it makes no sense to use it to back up your OP.

Find a statement from NCSoft that says they arent reinvesting into GW2 and we can continue the discussion.

I’ve brought up both topics because they are interrelated to make my case. I’m not sure you read things fully… Those are two differ topics and both of which I’ve addressed separately…

This topic has progressed so you are twisting thoughts just to argue…

Did you not read the op? Or were you too busy telling me to buy gems if I don’t like the funding from the owners?

You jumped in mid conversation with a silly comment on an important topic so obviously you are not serious with this discussion in the first place.

You run in circular arguments just to argue and that doesn’t move the topic forward…

Seriously, good luck…

So its fine, if you throw in 2 different topics into the conversation and its not fine if i question their correlation?

If you took the time to read the op… It’s pretty clear…

I read your OP several times even after the edit and its all over the place.

What it boils down to is that you want NCSoft to invest money in the game because you dont like certain aspects of the game and you claim their marketing strategy is why we dont have classes balanced like you want them to be, only 1 wvw map, only 1 raid and so on.

You just want them to sponsor more ressources and tell Anet to make a better game and give no specific suggestions on how this would generate more ROI for them, except better gem store sales through better items and GW2 being a better product.

You completely misinterpreted what was said in the conference call because it has absolutely nothing to do with game development.

On fabric and leather in GW2 (tl;dr included)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

Are you complaining about the generally high price of cloth and leather or the fact that you cant farm them directly?

Would you be ok, if they added some nodes for leather and cloth in lower level maps but to keep scarcity at its current level, would scratch the ability to open gear bags from sw on lower level toons for t1-4 gear/mats and make karma gear unforgeable?

It’s the generally high price that bothers me. The high prices are the result of the scarcity of fabric and leather in the game and the great amount you need to craft ascended armor. I wouldn’t necessarily suggest to implement nodes for cloth and leather.

In a different reddit thread I sadly can’t find anymore someone suggested to bind the gearlevel of dropped gear to the maplevel and no longer to the character level. Meaning on a say level 15-25 map the gear that will drop will have the same level range even if it dropped for your level 80 character. This would create a new incentive for players to play on low level maps. The exception should maybe be rare and exotic gear so the world bosses on lower level maps stay attractive for those who want to do them with their level 80 characters or world bosses are the general exception and will drop gear according to the character level.

A different idea I had is that plant nodes drop different kinds of fibres which a tailor then can process into scraps and those scraps into bolts. I got the idea because I noticed how rarely I gather plant nodes if they don’t give me something that I can then process into the bufffood and I think most players are thinking the same way about them. But, yes this would mean there are actual nodes for cloth at least.

The downgrade option through the mystic forge is another good idea I think. I have 11 characters, 10 of which are level 80, the exception is my bagopener (the name of the character is literally bagopener, I am not kidding). This means I am drowning in t5 and t6 materials. Giving me the option to downgrade something of it into lower level fabric and leather would be great and clear my bank because selling it isn’t that attricive because of the low prices.

It actually got a couple of gold cheaper to craft 1 each asc ingot, bolt and square since HoT arrived.
The reason why its more expensive atm to buy 1 each of those from the tp is because of they high demand and the timegate. People are willing to pay way more than the crafting costs, compared to pre HoT.

It has nothing to do with prices or scarcity for t2-5 mats.

That is not entirely true. Yes people want more gold for their timegate, I don’t actually think that is a bad thing since the crafting of the material has become a service now and the price isn’t just determined by the material cost. It’s a legitimate way of making gold through crafting because you are also providing a service for other people.

What I am talking about is the prices of the raw material that have increased since the implementation of ascended armor. Yes the prices are driven by demand no questions asked here. The problem is the demand is so high that people are forced to circumvent certain game mechanics (i.e. creating a character and leaving it on a low level so it opens bags for you which yield the low tier crafting material) . This makes one of your characterslots almost useless because there isn’t a different way of aquiring the low tier materials that is actually feasible. Sure I can kill low level humanoid mobs (Centaurs, Charr) and gather their bags, but those have a big droptable. It will take me hundreds of hours to gather enough materials if I want to use that method.

The common mat market is basically set up so you arent able to gather everything yourself every day. This is working as intended, so the materials hold value and it also works as an excellent transfer mechanism to move gold from veteran players, who mostly play end game content towards newer players, whose droprate for lower tier mats is higher.

The high crafting cost for ascended materials is also intended by Anet, so it stays a long term goal for players.

Yeah, sure, that’s called spin doctoring to explain poor numbers and not look bad for poor reinvestments back into their current games…

Sure, lets blame marketing when gamers don’t care about marketing, they care about a good game. WIIFM my friend… Look it up in sales strategy… That’s what players/customers/consumers/end users care about the most…

Those explainations are for money people not game people… But you don’t get that concept…

Cost efficiency and patch notes are all we need to see to know… Sorry.

But why do you use cost efficiency to explain the development flaws if it is clearly a money people explaination, as you have stated?

NCSoft stopped investing into GW2 development long ago, all they do, is take Anets earnings and use a part of those profits for marketing their product.

Where is the correlation between marketing budgets and game development flaws?

Anet is wholly owned by ncsoft…

So maybe it’s time to reinvest and make them better bread winners…

Investors and owners dont care about game balance, legendary armor, raids or wvw maps.

Thats for the developers.

Some posts earlier, you said you dont care about investors and now you want their money to get a better game. If you want more money from them so Anet gets more ressources, you should talk to them directly.

I never said I didn’t care about investors…

I said that conference call was a message to investors by ncsoft… Players don’t care about that message, they care about what is in game…

Nc makes the big money decisions ultimately… That’s what you are missing…

So are you anti making this a better game?

Seems so from your posts here, and I’m trying to communicate my thoughts (not alone with this thinking either) to maybe make this thing better for all of us…

I am not against making this game better but i have little faith that your way to go for it will yield any results because:

  • you dont contact those who make the money decisions
  • you take a statement that was about marketing strategy and budget from NCSoft and apply it completely out of context towards game development from Anet

You missed the points entirely Wanze as per usual and continue to deflect.

No, you entirely missed the meaning of cost efficiency in the article and it was a term used by the website, it wasnt mentioned in the transcript.

The website used the term of cost efficiency correctly though as it was describing the media marketing strategy of promoting HoT.

Here is a definition of cost efficiency from the business dictionary:

A goal of media marketing that is aimed at minimizing advertising expenses incurred while maximizing product publicity to a target market in terms of breadth and frequency of exposure. Maximizing cost efficiency in a marketing campaign is highly desirable for a business since the greatest product exposure is achieved for the least amount of financial investment.

Read more: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/cost-efficiency.html

Prior to HoT, NCSoft wanted to promote it by giving free (limited) access to the core game to new players in order to get new paying customers, which is very cost efficient, as you dont have to pay advertising fees.

However, the numbers of new players buying HoT after playing it for free werent as high as they expected. They already mentioned in the transcript, that they will go a less cost efficient route for marketing (very aggressive on the marketing).

You took the term of cost efficiency completely out of context and applied it to game development, which has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Y’all should reread the op and familiarize yourselves with what I’m talking about instead of the silly banter…

Youre talking about that a company should throw money at some problems and somehow tell that to its shareholders.

They actually talked a bit about it in that article, as they claimed to aggressively advertise HoT in the 4th quarter and also offered the f2p model to get new buyers.

Thats what NCSofts responisibility is.

I have conference call facts, financial document facts and I have patch note facts…

You are all pulling the “lemme see the facts for the facts for the other facts and where are hidden document facts and you need to fly to Korea and talk to the suits and get the facts”… argument… It’s very ridiculous of you all to dismiss the current facts I’m given…

You have facts stretching from July to mid sep, can you elaborate what they are doing with the revenue from HoT and how much of it is going back into the game?

I have patch notes showing trends from 3 years and a clear statement of “cost efficiency”…

And what does post hot revenue numbers have to do with things being discussed, mentioned and asked for… If I knew exactly what was being dropped and when and had a clearer road map from nc soft and Anet… I wouldn’t be talking about this subject… But I don’t, that’s why I bring up the facts I’m currently being provided and discussing them…

I’m talking about what I’m given Wanze, nc and anet are fully capable to engage in some way to this topic through various mediums…

It’s silly to ask for proof from me of post hot stuff when we are given little to work with and we don’t have access to 4th quarter numbers and we haven’t been given a year review or a next year wish list or roadmap…

You like your numbers so maybe see in the title I mention 2016… And make references to things up to 3rd quarter 2015…

Context and perspective and relevancy Wanze…

And obviously you see that the intent of the post is to hope for a better game for both devs and players… That requires better looking support by ncsoft… They own Anet. They call the shots. They can make or break this game.

If your problem is with ncsoft, contact them directly via http://us.ncsoft.com/en/contact-us/.
I dont see how you expect them to read your feedback in an arenanet forum with a forum title specifically addressing Anet and gw2 players.

Considering today is Christmas and there may be an influx of new players, ANet may have increased server capacity to make room for all of the new players to the game who may wish to play WvW with friends on those crowded servers (since that’s what the population balance tells us these days).

Not the best time to use server status as a means to say the game is in trouble.

you are fully wrong about this all the way around . the numbers have been like this since

hot came out. and just not today ONLY . and that is a fact and Anet did NOT increase

servers or any thing like that at all. and this has got noting at ALL to do with wvw or

pvp

How do you know they haven’t recently increased server capacity? You work for ANet?

And newsflash: ANet changed how the server status is calculated. It used to be based on accounts attached to the server even if they didn’t do WvW. Then megaservers happened and servers now only matter for WvW. So ANet did the smart thing and made a new algorithm for the server status that only looks at WvW activity.

And I never mentioned anything about PvP, so read more carefully, please. Thank you.

GW2 2016... A message to devs and players

I gave specific examples of the pieced together development by what we see being implemented. There is no speculating… Fact that we have a mini raid and no legendary armor to even view is not a speculation. Nor is 1 wvw map while the rest of wvw is in production. Nor profession neglect that has been pointed out many times in and out of these forums… Those are facts… And that’s where “cost efficiency” come into play…

You are asking us to conclude with you that “cost efficiency” is the issue behind your observations. You’ve not looked at other possible issues that may have produced the effects. Thus, your analysis is flawed. Flawed analysis means suspect conclusions.

MMO developers failing to provide everything that MMO consumers might want at the pace those consumers prefer is the state of the genre. It certainly is not something unique to GW2. Nor is it new with regard to GW2. There have been complaints about GW2 content provision, lack of new profession mechanics, lack of attention to WvW, etc. since very shortly after the game launched. I’m sure that costs are a factor in that dynamic, but this is not something new.

Anet’s financial resources from ncsoft are too low and then spread too thin. That’s the main problem. This game deserves a very hefty injection of cash from the masters. Until then, it’s going to be continuous patchwork quilting on every project… That’s a problem.

I believe GW2 has the potential to be the number 1 flagship game for ncsoft. It needs a big cash boost…

Then buy some gems.

You must be new to economy.

[Suggestion] Crafting the Precursor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

If it were to be the alternative method, it should be the cheaper method. Why consider an option that costs more gold and time than just selling the mats and buying it outright and still have gold to pocket? I was considering this method because of the random chance of getting the precursor through chests and such, but when you compare the gold cost to craft the item as opposed to just buying outright, you’re losing a lot of gold, and wasting a lot of time. It’s hardly an alternative method.

I can’t lose any gold if I don’t buy most of the mats off of the trading post. I’m only wasting time if I end up not finishing the collection.

You are losing gold when you don’t buy the mats, because if you were to sell the mats, you’d end up with more gold than the precursor is even worth. Why farm and waste the mats crafting something, when you could sell the mats get more gold, and buy the precursor with gold left-over?
As it stands with the prices now, it’s more cost-efficient to farm the mats and sell them, buy the precursor than it is to craft the precursor. Maybe in time it will be reversed, but as we are now, it’s a waste of time.

Its not Anets fault, its the players fault who sell their precursors on the tp for so cheap and pay so much gold to circumvent the daily timegate on asc mats.

I just forged the asc backpacks (quivers and books) some of them cost like 60g to forge and they have a decent droprate for globs.

Winter's Presence Feedback [merged]

So getting 10.000 drinks, without buying them.

It wasnt designed, so that the average player can earn all the drinks on his own.

If that was the case, drinks would be at vendor value already because everybody who wants the achi doesnt need to buy any from the tp. So those that dont want to make the shoulder skin, would just dump them on the tp and no one would buy them. And those play more than casually, would have earned their drinks already too, adding the additional supply to the tp.

And if you think that drinks at vendor value would solve your dilemma, you are wrong, because the 50 each runes and sigils would become the bottleneck.

Throughout the year, there was about 500k of each on the tp, enough for 10k shoulder skins. Of course, not al the supply of those was listed on the tp, so lets say those 500k on the tp was only 10% of the overall supply. Thats 100k skins then until we run out of runes and sigils because they dont drop anymore. You have to buy the minors from the vendor and promote them in the forge. A superior rune needs 6 mystic coins to forge from minors, a superior sigil needs 20 coins.

Thats an additional 1300 mystic coins, people would need, apart from the 150 they need anyways.

The achievement is the only sink for these drinks. Not everybody is going for the shoulders, so if everybody would be able to earn all the drinks he needed at a reasonable pace, you will soon have an oversupply of drinks on the market, from people that dont want to do the achievement and from players that play more than the average casual.

Its a simple reward mechanism, that adds temporary value to wintersday gifts, so people have the option to sell them for a decent amount of gold to those who want to rush the achievement and be the first ones with that skin.

Edit: Also, please change topic title to : Guestimating the festive imbiber because what you did here isnt a calculation

too many black lion skins?

Wanze.8410

anet your releasing WAY TOO MANY black lion skins in too short of a time, nobody can keep up, nobody even wants to keep up anymore as evidenced by how prices on black lion skins have plummeted in the past year, i know it used to be your bread and butter but you over saturated the market with too many.

THE SOLUTION 1: release them less often 2: stop releasing full sets, you already stopped releasing underwater weps (even though i like spears) so maybe its time to do that with other sets…..i think we can all agree that the black lion glittering set should NOT have had melee weps, it looks “fine” for magic but that butterfly set is not something im going to use as a hammer…..so why make the melee weps at all?

you could save time and money by producing only specialized half sets of weapons that would serve a more niche audience with each set

So let me get this straight:

You are complaining that they release weapon skin sets too frequently and therefore their price is dropping?

You rather pay 2000g every 4 weeks for a new weapon set than 1000g every two weeks?

Makes complete sense.

I think investing in BL skins was your bread and butter and now they oversaturated your market.

They are so cheap because they are soo ugly, they look like basic armor/weapons. No one wants to buy them lol.

The ones that cost a lot were well worth the gold price, they looked amazing with special effects.

I could use some ugly skins because i look so amazingly awesome that i cause map lag anywhere i go. Too bad they are so cheap though because im running out of stuff to sink all my gold into.

I decided to change my glider skin last night, and saw an ugly wool glider skin in the preview tab. The hint to unlock says to bring a mini angry wintersday chest to Terksli.
Well, Terksli is in the vaults in lion’s arch, and doesn’t have any unusual dialog. Does anyone have info on the mini angry gift? Is there another version of Terksli in DR for this collection? Any info is appreciated:)

Datamining suggests that the angry wintersday chest will be available in the gem store:

Something is making Wintersday gifts angry, and we’ve got a whole pile of them! Is it something inside? Outside? Or is it just wrapped too tightly? Talk to Collector Terksli to unwrap this seasonal oddity.

It is bad for the game, because it brings absolutely NO value to gaming experience.

Different people work on the gem store stuff. The people who make content, bug fix etc have nothing to do with what is made for the gem store. So I really don’t see how it is eating in to content.

In a sense it does, instead of releasing it in the Gem store, they could make it obtainable by just playing the game.

Sigils
It’s shoulder armor, why would it use sigils in its forge recipe and not runes?
Anyway, depending on what sigils are needed, I expect the supply to get bought up immediately and jacked up in price. So this is one area where it can potentially become very costly if you do not already have the sigils. Then again, perhaps the sigils will be the ones that drop from the Wintersday gifts so we’ll get a supply of them simply by opening the gifts earned via doing the activities to get the collection items.

The Dev said you will need a bunch of sigils and other stuff to craft it. Then she realized that she shouldnt have given that info and stopped.
I am pretty sure you will need both, the sigil and rune from last years wintersday to craft it.
