No AP for you this wintersday!

Well, it’s the same for everyone. But I figured people will be unhappy about this considering people complain about the daily AP cap almost every day.

If by people you mean yourself and your other 30 accounts, I would agree.

I never complained about daily AP cap, in fact I advocated for removing daily AP completly.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Daily-Achievement-Bugged-1
just a handful of topics I found within 3 minutes of looking

The first link is a thread where a poll is initiated where only people should participate that hit the daily cap, so its completely biased and the 2nd link leads to a thread with its OP removed.
The other four links are all bug reports from people who werent aware of the cap. After being informed, none of them complained of its existance.

From what I’ve seen the only problem with the Strange Rock is that players got themselves so worked up over how amazing it was going to be when they worked it out (based on no information whatsoever) that the end result was always going to be a disappointment.

To me it doesn’t seem any different to the hungry cats (which don’t give you any hints on what to feed them, and some of them don’t even want actual food), the only difference is that the people who were working out that one they weren’t expecting anything out of it so they were pleasantly surprised when the cats started showing up in the home instance.

However this means it’s an extremely difficult problem for Anet to fix. Explicitly telling us what the reward will be would defeat the point, but they can’t realistically tell us everything its not and if they say e.g. “it’s not a legendary” some people will assume it must therefore be equally good.

Once again, the 1000+ skritt contracts that you need to receive strange rock (on average) is a HUGE karma/petrified wood sink. The ends do not justify the means.

Maybe Anets means differed from yours and they only put it in as a karma and petrified wood/unbound magic sink for those players that bought everything there is on offer for those currencies. And you chose to sink your currencies first before you had purchased all the other goodies.

Drain the currency

drain the things that cause inflation – e.g blatant abuse of poor design (AB multiloot) and introduce more stuff that costs gold without creating a power race: utilities, legendary items, fluff, a new source of demand (housing!!)

I dont think AB multiloot causes inflation. I could be wrong though, as I have never done it ankitten ot 100% about the average loot you get.
But from what I have heard, most of the value people get from ABML is from selling mats they earn from salvaging the gear they got as loot.
For example, if you earn 10g per hour doing ABML but only 1g is a direct gold reward and the other 9g come from selling the rest of your loot on the tp, you end up paying 1.35g in fees and taxes, so it bascially acts as a gold sink.

I mean, there is basically no demand for resonating slivers or lodestones, so why add them as a reward?

On the price of legendaries in TP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Ectos and the t6 mats for gifts of might and magic lost nearly 50% in value since June, which ecuals around 600-700g for each legendary.
If you needed charged lodestones for your legendary, you pay 100g less now compared to june and most precursors also lost 100-200g in value since then.
Just that is around 1000g off your shopping list for mats.

Why did those constantly lost value since june?
AB Farm, new LS chapter and I am not sure when they announced that new legendaries are on hold for the time being. That might have been around that time and might have caused some players, who were hoarding mats in order to craft the new rifle for example, opted to use their mats to craft the old leggie rifle and sell it for a profit. If you check the supply graphs of the leggie weapons, most of them only had less than 10 listings, now most have over 40. So more supply than demand, it seems.

Phospholuminescent Infusion 5000g?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

The economy for this game is broken

People place items on the TP to what they desire at first and people buy it however there is no time limit to how long an item can be on the shop.

Some people put this infusion in the TP for an over the top amount and some people undercut them and put it in at a cheaper amount. Obviously the cheaper ones sold and with each sell the price would double and triple to the next infusion on the market. The issue is the horrible RNG in this game keeping incoming supply to a trickle it may take awhile for new items to be found and when they go to the TP to sell they will see the highest price people weren’t willing to pay. This 5000g and they will think this is the normal price and also place their own item at that average whether it sells or not doesn’t matter because both these new items priced at 5000g and the old items at 5000g that no one wanted to buy will remain on the TP forever since their is no auction timer. This is the worst Auction house I’ve ever seen and it’s only because it lacks an auction timer.

Worst yet Anet is fine with the constant drum beat shooting higher to the sky and the lack of an auction timer because people will buy real gems to convert to gold to buy these crazy expensive items. An auction timer is a gold sink because you still have to pay gold to put up an item even if it doesn’t sell which forces you to rethink the price cut it down and repost the item. It removes some gold from the economy, lowers the overall price of Auction Hall items, and allows the supply and demand to flow naturally and effect prices to greater results.

But as stated Arenanet only cares that you pull out your credit card and buy gems to convert to gold in order to complete your inflated purchases.

You: The Trading Post is a bad Auction House.
Anet: Because the Trading Post isnt an Auction House.

Phospholuminescent Infusion 5000g?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

yeah, I know, I’m predicting that the price of all of them will go up eventually, being able to change stats just allows changing to the one who is currently selling the highest (I’m guessing at least 90% of players have no idea about the forge recipes, but, most players would at least look that item up on the wiki before buying it, so mehh)
it’s certainly a long shot investment.
lol awwww someone undercut my precision one. 2999g1s2c :P

I wouldnt be too concerned about the fact that the stats can be changed, the biggest problem is that the changing of the stats unbinds them again. So even if people are using theirs now, it doesnt get destroyed and can be put back into the market.

Phospholuminescent Infusion 5000g?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

That’s true. Looks like there’s only one at 5000 for each for a total of 4. Those, however, made have been put there in hopes of a sale later when supply drops and prices rise as fewer ToT bags are opened. An investment later in other words, even if it takes months. That’s how many TP people make so much gold. They list high on items such as these vanity cosmetics and wait for the market to spike to that level.

Read my next post. It looks like they are there to (hopefully) catch the price spike as supply drops and prices rise. It’s a reasonable supposition. Chak egg sacs sell at 10k gold and Queen Bee sells at 2200 so it looks like one flipper is hoping it hits 5k.

As the lister of the 5000g infusions, I can tell you that this is what happened.
I expect these will eventually be worth that much (probably 6+ months), figured I might as well list them now in case someone REALLY wants a precision one and buys it.
Before I listed those, there were no buy orders or sell listings on them at all.
http://imgur.com/a/XqiZo
wish me luck!

Well, good luck to you. If there wasnt a MF recipe to change the stats for around 30g, I would call that a good investment. I wont put it past some consumers to snatch one of your listings up because they dont know about the stat change recipe but you need to be extremely lucky for that to happen. As the power and precision infusions are still traded between 1-2k gold, it would mean that they would need to sell out first as well.

As T&T bag supply out of season is pretty low since they nerfed Maize Balm farm last year, you might actually be lucky to sell one listing before next years Halloween festival.

But considering that you can even reverse the binding of these infusions and sell them again, makes me wonder, if this was a wise move.
Sure, new supply would be limited within the next 11 months but it means that you not only have to consider existing supply on the tp as competition but also any infusions that are used by players atm.
I guess you would need two sales at 5k to cover fees, taxes and your intial investment.
I actually think you might sell one of your listings with pure luck but two is a bit optimistic.
But what do I know about the economy…………

Where are the Flail weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Personally, this is my favorite weapon and it is almost never in any mmo-games. I just don’t understand. It is such a classical weapon!

Actually, it isnt a classical weapon. Even though these days it is more commonly mentioned in movies, books etc. about the middle ages, there is little historical evidence that they were commonly used. Some flails were used, of course, for example during the 16th century German peasant war but that wasnt because of their handiness in battle. They were simply harvesting tools and used because they couldnt afford regular weapons, just like pitchforks, to give a popular example.

The picture you have linked does show a “weaponized” flail, with metal chains and spiked heads, which seems to be made by a blacksmith.
However, if someone had the money to have a blackmsmith make a custom weapon for him, he would have probably opted for a sword, which is much easier to wield in battle.
No knight in his right mind would choose such a flail, with three chains and morningstars. This is probably the clumsiest melee weapon I have ever seen. Just imagine two of those connecting with your target and the third chain missing, swinging back and hitting your hand or arm. The spikes would continously hit each other or the chains during combat as well.
Thats why you wont find one of those in any history museum. Because they didnt exist.

or the spikes get embedded in the enemy’s shield and now you have no weapon :P

To be fair though, that could happen with a sword or an axe as well. One-ended flails actually might have some use as weapons but definately not flails with 3 ends.

This thread is about t6 leather. Every other post I wrote about T6 leather. Im talking about t6 FANGS in the post you quoted. Excuses much?

Also, upgrading t5 leather is unprofitable. If you want to use the TP, its better to sell t5 leather and buy t6 leather. Upgrading t5 to t6 costs you around 40s per t6 leather section.

But you said you dont want to use the TP! Now you use its price on the TP as an argument. Whatever t6 leather costs on the tp, shouldnt concern you.

You make the assumption that items of the same tier should have the same value and droprate and fine crafting materials should be harder to get than basic materials.

What is the point of designating Tiers and Rarity if they don’t actually indicate consistency within these designations?

I can create a food group called “purple food” but if I then include food that’s not actually purple, what was the point of me creating that group?

Well, Anet is doing just that, if you check the vendor value, which adds up depending on tier and designated rarity.
The value that is associated with every material on the TP is based on player choices. You cant blame Anet for that.

The issue is that it doesn’t drop as much. The price is simply a result of how rare it is to drop.

It doesnt drop as much as what? As you would like to?

<sigh> As much as other mats in that tier.

Do you actually get more ori ore or ancient wood logs than hard leather?
I checked how much of the t6 common unrefined and refined mats were traded over the last 24 hours on gw2bltc, here is what i found:

hard leather sections: 8.5k bought + 6.5k sold = 15k
hard leather squares: 3.7k bought + 3.5k sold = 7.2k x 3= 21.6k
36.6k hard leather sections traded in last 24 hours

gossamer scrap: 7.8k bought + 19.3k sold = 27.1k
gossamer bolt: 4.6k bought + 3.4k sold = 8k x 2= 16k
43.1k gossamer scraps traded

ori ore: 2.7k bought + 4.1k sold = 6.8k
ori ingots: 8.5k bought + 5k sold = 13.5k x 2= 27k
33.8k ori ores traded

ancient logs: 3.6k bought + 9.1k sold = 12.7k
ancient planks: 5.7k bought + 3.3k sold = 9k x 3= 27k
39.7k ancient logs traded

of course this is no accurate droprate data but I cant say that I get significantly less hard leather compared to gossamer, ori or ancient.

And again, if people choose to consume more leather than other t6 common mats, its their choice, not Anets. Its not that you need to pay 10 of each every day to play the game.

Oh, of course.
Killing Flame Legions for example, will reward you with Ritual bags that contain leather and you will get leather from salvaged medium armor they might drop. The Legions itself will drop Claws and the ritual bags only totems and vials of blood, so you wont get any Fangs.
You are welcome.

Only Heavy Ritual bags drop t6 leather and are actually worth “farming”.

Problem? They only drop in upscaled Fireheart Rise events or CoF. And CoF its rather abyssmal, the droprate. You get 95% Large Ritual bags, which dont contain t6 materials, only t5.

You just asked for leather in general, not t6 leather. And even if the droprate from cof for t6 leather is abysmal, its still more than no t6 fangs at all.
And you can promote t5 leather to t6.

You do realize, that if everybody bought t6 leather straight from tp instead of at least trying to farm, the prices for t6 leather are gonna be around 1g per section?

you do realize that some players dont have any demand for leather and therefore sell it on the tp?

Dont get me wrong, this is NOT a complaint about tp prices. Imo, 30s reflects the value of t6 leather quite nicely.

And THATS what Im complaining about.

Why is it, a base crafting material is rarer than a fine crafting material? Why is the discrepancy so high between gossamer scraps and hardened leather sections? Or even between ancient wood logs and hardened leather sections.

You make the assumption that items of the same tier should have the same value and droprate and fine crafting materials should be harder to get than basic materials. This might seem like a logic assumption but is far from reality because it still depends on which content the player plays and how much he consumes of each material.

A basic material might have ten times more faucets than a fine material but if a player opts to play content that rewards him with a rare mat 95% of the time and only spends 5% of his time playing content that rewards a basic mat, the intended average supply of it wont be as intended.

Given that the four ascended mats have a low drop rate and that Damask isn’t worth significantly more than Spiritwood, I’d prefer that ANet adapt to changed circumstances.

  • Drop all four mats or
  • Only drop leather & cloth (since those are used for patches and thus universal for armor) or
  • Forget trying to use something with a tiny drop rate to ‘balance’ costs and increase the rate on something else (e.g. junk/coin).

Just giving players more coin to earn wont make more spiritwood available.

BL: bots and buying orders

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

sell orders doesn’t solve it. I see this all the time buying sell orders (I don’t buy sell orders all the time, but when I do, I often see this)
I believe it’s not a bot. my main reason is that it’s too fast. a bot would at the very least be limited by ping. be generous and call it 50ms to know it’s listing was sold, another 50ms to list a new thing = 1/10 of a second. these listings are reappearing instantly, at least less than 1 frame (call it 1/30 of a second for generosity). unless there is a bot on the same local network as the gw2 servers, it isn’t a bot.
plus, I see it with quantities above 1, on several listings. there might be a listing for 9, 7, 42, 1, 1, 30, 2, 48, 12, 20, 1, 5, etc. and I’ll try to buy 100. the 9, 42, 30, and part of the 48 will disapear, leaving 7, 1, 1, 2, 40, 12, 20, 1, 5. so I buy another 60, and the 7, 1, 40, and part of the 12 disapear, leaving 1, 2, 3, 20, 1, 5. these aren’t exactly what happens, but you get the point.
what I think is going on is a visual bug caused by efficiency. like, to be more efficient, the TP servers don’t relay everything to each other, so server A might know that there is something listed there but not how much or by whom (the actual data of the listing is stored on server, so it displays 1. when you go to buy it, it finds out from server B that even after the purchase there are still things listed there, but again, not how much, so it keeps 1 there.
either that or it’s selling us the same listing multiple times because the servers were bogged down and didn’t complete the transaction before refreshing the screen, letting us buy the same one many times in quick succession. but I doubt this is the case, usually it’s seconds before buying it a second time, and I’ve even bought as much as 38 in a row before it ran out.

this happened to me plenty of times on the sell listing side as well. I buy a listing and it doesnt disappear.

Because its not used in armor crafting.

it’s used in weapon crafting.
What’s your point?

My point is that only ascended materials for armorcrafting are dropped in fractals.

did you realise the op I was asking WHY this is?

did you realize that i already answered that twice?
They wanted to bring down the general price for asc armorcrafting and spiritwood isnt needed for asc armor.

Well, in the scale of things, I have to say that I am spending more time crafting rather then playing and enjoying the game.
In the scale of things, I have to farm tons of mats every day to craft the time-gated tier 7 mats.
In the scale of things, if you haven’t tried scribing you won’t even know what I am talking about. The price and number of mats required to build a simple wall could buy a precursor.
In the scale of things… there’s a lot of drift from lore…
I have made peace with all of the above, If this game is about cooking and knitting, then I will do my share, but Anet you gotta help and improve the rate drop of something, that would rather not impact your cash income from gems nor would affect or buff the pvx environment.
What I am asking for is related to decoration/ scribing:
To craft a bronze statue, you need 10 drops from a specific boss; the silver would require 10 silver statue meaning 100 from the item, for the gold its 10 silver meaning 1000 item.
In other words, to craft the gold vale or gold teq you need 1000 of its drop, etc…
Now, if every time you do that specific boss you get the drop, in the scale of things, I would teach myself to live with it, but, it’s that bloody system again at work, from every 6 to 8 times you get 1 drop which means, that, in the scale of things… you need to do the vale guardian or the shatterer or teq or gorseval around 6000 to 8000 times.
Assuming you have a guild of 50 who are willing to do the content on a regular basis, from each raid run, 1 or 2 players would get it, and its weekly timed, so in the scale of things, I lost count and think that it shows how the simplest things to get are yet scaled to legendary grind grind grind and grind.
In the scale of things, I will go cook meself a burger or two, hoping that the next time I join the game, I will actually have more time to play then cook artificial food that requires recipes breaking me back from farming its account bound mats…

In the scale of things, you only need 500 crystals, not 1000, for a gold statue.
In the scale of things, I would say that gold statues are there to show guild dedication towards completing a specific event.
In the scale of things, the simplest things (bronze statues) are fairly easy to get and dont require a legendary grind from a decent sized guild.

well what i was trying to say, is regardless if its 500 or 1000, why would it have to be that much and it doesn’t drop on each occasion. did u check the drop rate? how many times did u have to do the same thing over and over and over to get, and after weren’t you surprised to see that it was just tier one of some overly l-o-n-g quest that requires mats worth a precursor to craft?
did u try scribing? did you see how much each item cost? not to mention its size in comparison of how much you had to pay for it?
250 amalgameted gemstones, fulgurites, 20 flaxes per 1 lindsail oil, why why and yes why? I have the right to question it, cured leather a tier 6 mat costs 70g per stack, is this normal?

I leveled my scribe before they adjusted the costs.
And as another poster already mentioned: Its either 250 or 500 for a gold statue.

If you just want a statue from a boss, you just need 10, which isnt that much. The silver and gold versions are just there to show that the guild has done alot of runs of that particular boss fight. They are trophies, not decorations.

'the market will fix itself'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I tihnk alot of general supply of crafting ingredients in game is held in peoples material storage and there lies the problem. Plenty of average players just deposit whatever mats they earn into storage and forget about them. They cant be kittened to check values of mats on a general basis, so they just hoard them until they run out of storage space. When Anet introduced mat storage expanders, they kinda escalated the problem, as people were able to store 1000 (or is it 2000 now) of each mat before being notified that its full.

I have been paying minimum attention to GW2 for the past 10 months but have been catching up. I think the MC situation isn’t a situation either. Rather, a move to increased economic stability. Maybe.

On dark production potential:
The cost of maintaining materials is negligible if even above initial minimum investment to play. A players demand for gold can fall well below any gains from selling, especially if they predict new content. I think there is a sizeable player percentage for which hoarding is rational market behavior.

As a veteran player playing since launch, i stopped having demand for gold a long time ago. I have everything i need and if there is something i need, I have enough gold or items to sell to get what i need.
I have over 100k gold worth of listings on the tp that built up over time, so there is always something selling on any given day. Its been a long time that I went into my material storage in order to sell something, so i guess I am hoarding as well.

The hardest achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For PvE: Giant Slayer

I’m willing to accept that as the hardest PvE achievement, but I’ve been under the impression that something like Weapon Master: Shield, or Weapon Master: Focus would be more difficult.
Are there good ways to cheese those two, cause they’re taking me forever.

Ambient critters count for those achievements, so you can cheese it just by hanging around areas where lots of them spawn.

Unfortunately, even in an ambient-rich area, it’s still very tedious and even difficult to get kills with shield and focus skills only.

Its pretty tedious that’s for sure. But that’s kind of a good thing. Some achievements need to be tedious/long-ish to complete

I think some siege weapons count as some type of weapon, if you kill players or mobs with it. I never played a staff wielding class but got the achievement completed, for example, while killing someone in wvw with a siege weapon (forgot which siege it was).
Warhorn is another hard one to complete, i guess. Before Tempests, i think Call of the Wild was the only offensive warhorn skill that could do damage. I always played warrior and most of the time used a warhorn and I only have 7 kills with it after thousands of hours. I think they just triggered, when i blasted a light field with it and the applied retaliation killed someone.

Just as food for thought as this started as a general discussion and then focussed on mystic coins:
Personally I dont neccessarily think that the high price for MC is bad, as I am not in need of any but have a general and steady supply chain through login rewards. But I can understand people that think their price is getting too high. But I think the high price is working as intended.
I did some digging and research and it is clear to me that MC started gaining value with the announcement of the new daily login rewards in December 2014. Before that, Mc were worth a couple of silver.
In their blogpost they wrote:
One of the things we want to do is reward players for being fans of Guild Wars 2. So we’ve moved the original rewards from daily and monthly achievements, thrown in some new items for good measure, and combined it all into a new bonus system that rewards players just for logging in to the game.
I dont think anybody would feel much rewarded if he gets an item worth a couple of silver as login reward, so I assume the rise in price over the years was intended and welcome.
And people thinking that Anet will stop balancing the economy because of JS post should look a little closer to the changes they implement with nearly every update.
For example, with Ember Bay, 2 new converters have been introduced, Sentient Aberration and Anomaly, which let you exchange ascended crafting mats (dragonite, bloodstone, shards) for fluctuating mass six times a day. That Fluctuating Mass has Mystic Coins on its loot table (according to the wiki), so they just added another faucet for them. Due to the small amount of players using those converters to max potential ever day and the quite big loot table, the amount of additional coins being added to the market through them might be relatively low but its added supply nonetheless.

Theres currently 37800 MC for sale on the TP.
Doesnt sound like a shortage of coins to me.

37800/150 = 252 people can craft a legendary weapon at one time if they don’t rely on the meager personal income. I dunno, how big is the player base of GW2 at the moment? and this is just for the legendary weapons. Then there’s guild halls, recipes, mystic weapons etcetc

GW2BLTC tries to estimate the number of items sold based on the getting detailed stats every 5 minutes. Now according to it, it appears that over 4500 MC were sold from the supply side and 6500 put up for sale in the last 24 hours. There are also numbers for coins sold immediately but since there isn’t a posting fee, I’m not as sure about them. It lists 4700 sold immediately.

You pay a listing fee, even if you sell directly.

What's Missing from Material Storage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

Is it feasible to introduce personalised material storage slots? Something like an extra bank slot at the end of the mat storage, so players can decide themselves what to put in it. You just go to a banker to drag individual items in it manually and for those items, if they show up in your bags, the option to deposit them will appear or they will be deposited when deposit all is used.
Might go a long way for people being able to decide individually, what kind of mats to put in there.

Update on the Economy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

So is anet going to take any action on Halloween drops/items? The economy for these items was totally and utterly ruined last year. Candy corn is the most supplied item on the TP, with no uses. It dropped WAY too much last year. Will it be toned down and given new sinks this year?

What about T5 mats? They dropped in such abundance from the maze that they never recovered in price. Getting T5 mats is worthless for an entire year because of one event. Will this be fixed this year?

Even things that were supposed to be rare like the tattered wings are over supplied and selling for almost nothing.

Please fix halloween this year and make it a festival, not a grind fest loot farm.

the reason why t5 fine mats went down in value one year ago wasnt because of the additional faucet of the lab, it was because HoT introduced crafted precursors, which destroyed the market of crafting rare weapons to forge precursors. Until then, that has been the biggest sink of t5 fine mats.
