FEEL THE STRENGTH OF THE EARTH
Vicodium – Ranger (IX) Coldsnap
So, my guild decided to help a core guildie get her DM title by running P4 of Arah, and seeing as how my Arah experience is minimal, and I’ve been hanging with the core guild group lately, they asked me to tag along. After about 45 minutes to an hour in, we got up to Lupi. Since most of us were new (I myself had yet to beat him, but knew the fight) we stayed ranged the entire fight, and the mesmer would rez the downed players.
We downed him on our fourth attempt, and every fight against Lupi, he would choose me out of two warriors, a guard, and a mesmer. Every shadowstep was directed at me, so over raidcall we’d all hear "Lupi shadowsteps to Vic (pronounced like the beginning of Vicodin) And of course I’d dodge every shadowstep at me, unless I really couldn’t muster the endurance, or my SB 3 was on CD from the AoE spam dodging.
I’ve come to this conclusion: Anets extent of hate towards rangers is so big, Lupicus and every other dungeon boss in this games aim is to focus us down entirely.
Anyone else have Lupi vs Ranger stories?
I’d want to say you had half-stacks that got grouped together, but a lot of the item codes for the boxes differ from the bosses that drop them.
That sucks regardless, I only had a handful of each, still enough to get my MF up 10%
Man, it took me all day to beat 1-1 on Trib mode.
Granted my guild decided to run Arah P4 to get a fellow guildie her DM title, and since I hadn’t ran it yet, I went with them.
I think I’ll give 1-2 a shot before I log for the night just to see how it is.
Oh.
Well at least I don’t have to speed-clear checkpoints anymore.
yey.
So, what’s that little balloon you get while you’re in Trib mode? I’ve grabbed it every-time, but have yet to find out what it’s for.
One is an Elite, the other an Utility. Why don’t you take both?
I have extremely limited knowledge in Ele’s.
Assuming I use the elite one, I could probably use that other utility slot for something better, and vice versa I suppose.
I’ve got an open alt slot, and I just recently hit 5K achievement points so I have the scroll to boost a toon to level 20 off the bat. I know Ele’s aren’t the best in damage, but I’ve seen under good circumstances that the Fiery Greatsword and Lightning Hammer can both do some massive damage if traited properly and buffed well.
My question is, which is better in your opinion? I plan to build my toon to use them for dungeons.
I wonder if that poor fountain has feelings.
He gets destroyed then replaced, only to come back to be destroyed again.
My only true alt currently is my Guard since I stripped my Warrior down and haven’t done anything with her since.
I’m not really a fan of Bolt, and Twilight/Sunrise are so overly popular I’ve really lost interest in having one. As for the shield, not a fan of it either, and I’m not exactly a fan of Bifrost either. I guess I’m not a fan of many legendary’s which seems to be a popular opinion for most players.
However, I just recently got a Gift of Mastery, and decided I’d start the perilous journey to get Howler for my ranger.
To answer your question: I highly doubt I’ll make any other legendary’s besides Howler until they eventually launch new ones.
It’s unfortunate, but you’ll definitely get some groups that will just assume you know what you’re doing, and expect you to be playing the way they want you to.
I’d suggest either creating your own parties and leave a note saying it’s not a speed-run, or new players welcome, etc. Or if you join a party for a dungeon and they don’t have a note left on it, politely let them know you’re still learning and getting used to dungeon mechanics. More often than not, people are usually willing to teach newer players how to run dungeons and how the boss mechanics work. If they’re not, just leave and look/form a new party.
My only regret is not choosing to have him on my main toons personal story, especially since I don’t use the 80 I did Whispers on anymore :c

I’m looking for a real dungeon guild, please don’t post here stating that you’re a PvX guild with players doing dungeons on the side; I’m looking for a true dungeon guild that’s interested in doing speed-runs and optimal groups for faster and better runs. A hardcore/elitist dungeon guild, so to speak.
The only dungeon I haven’t been able to get through is Arah since I can’t find any groups willing to bring new players through Arah, so I’ve slowly been learning the dungeon on my own time, otherwise I’m pretty proficient in other dungeons.
I’ll be repping full-time, and would ask your guild has a near full-time rep rule, at least 80% of the time you must rep, or fully have to rep.
So, I’m not really one for doing math, or figuring out how the differences will work; but any ideas to how the new assassin combo will play out for builds?
I’ve recently shifted into sword/warhorn with the 20/25/0/25/0 build; it has a good amount of fury uptime for boss battles and harder fights and such; but again, I’m not very good at figuring the differences.
Any thoughts fellow rangers?
I recently started a new guild based entirely around PvE content; after seeing plenty of guilds I’ve been in die, and any PvE guild I joined were PvX, or new players had no place, etc.
I’ve got a lot of PvE experience, and looking for players willing to help the guild grow. If you’re interested, you’re welcome to whisper me in-game, or send me mail if I’m not on.

Bumpity bump bump
What’s up everyone?
Blacktemple Knights is a brand spankin’ new guild for PvE heavy players.
Seeing as how the guild is new, I’m looking for players willing to help work up a new guild that are heavily interested, and mainly do anything along the PvE aspects of the game.
Plans:
1. Dungeon Runs
2. World Completion groups
3. World Events groups
4. Living Story groups
and surely more.
Requirements:
All players of all skill types, status, and play-ability are welcome in the guild.
Whether you’re casual, or hardcore, you’re welcome to be here.
All levels accepted, no specific amounts of 80’s needed.
The ONLY requirement I ask, is if you make this guild your home guild for the most part.
If you have a bank guild, or a guild that you help in WvW or do sPvP with sometimes, that’s fine. I want the guild to grow, and it would be great to have active reppers, and people to constantly play with/talk to.
The guild is based on Eredon Terrace (ET) (NA); but all servers are welcome.
My CoE group encountered the mythical Firy Blast today. We were all pretty surprised to see it, and it ended up persisting throughout the rest of the fight. It caught us off-guard so much on our first attack on him, he ended up wiping us and resetting.
I know a few other players have accounted for this attack, but does anyone know what sets it off? Or is it just an incredibly rare attack that sets off once in every X amount of runs?
Did you have a mesmer using offhand pistol? Some people seem to notice that the illusionary duelist sets it off for some reason.
I believe so, I don’t really remember if the mesmer had an offhand pistol or not.

I could go for Greataxes, so long as Rangers get them.
I’ve fallen off plenty of cliffs because I accidentally tapped my auto-run key, and couldn’t fix it in time. I’ve jumped off cliffs thinking I could survive the fall, only to end up dead.
I’ve wasted dungeon tokens on the wrong armor tier of armor more than once.
I’m looking for a medium-hardcore dungeon guild that’s active.
I’m fairly experienced in most dungeons, except Arah as of right now.
Fractals are at about 15 since I have been neglecting to level them for awhile now.
Maining a Ranger with a GS build.
Over 800 hours.
I’m willing to do a trial, and I do have a working mic as well.
If there’s anything else you’d like to know, you’re welcome to PM me in game, post here, or leave me mail if I’m not on.
EDIT: Home server is Eredon Terrace (NA)
I’m in EST.

I got mine on Subject 7 Pre-nerf on my ranger.
Add more dungeons.
This.
I’ve noticed that as well, I kinda joke to myself we should get some form of hall where all of the special items we’ve acquired throughout the story are displayed for us to see. Though, we already have the banners on our account to show for us completing one of the orders.
Maybe it served a purpose at one point, or the devs dropped any plans on it and kind of just left it in for us to see when we looked back at our story.
The CoE armor set isn’t too bad on the Charr actually.
It actually has a flap over my tail. I haven’t noticed much clipping yet, though that could be due to my lack of noticing detail.
I read somewhere that sword/pistol can be as viable as a GS in dungeons as long as you’re using it properly. Of course, I can use it regardless, but I’d rather see if it’s true or not before I level up a mesmer on the side and plan to use it in dungeons with sword/pistol.
EDIT: I mean in a Zerker power build, instead of using a GS.
(edited by Warzaw.2708)
Conditions builds in PvE are sketchy at best, considering some conditions stack only to 25, and usually will cap fast with one player already focusing on stacking said condition. Some of the explores are largely facerolls, or including skips/exploits. A good CoE group can clear all paths in about 20-30 minutes (each), assuming you know the timing for Alpha and know how to fight the path-specific bosses properly. CoF P1 is relatively easy and fast, HotW P1 is largely a faceroll as well. Some paths are longer and harder, but generally most don’t require much other than knowing when to dodge.
As for Mesmers, most I see are using GS with Zerker builds, though I have heard sword/pistol can be just as viable if used properly; though I don’t know if that’s true or not. For the most part, have Feedback and Timewarp on. You can play any way you want, I’m just speculating on what I usually see, good luck and have fun running dungeons.

CoE always gives up the best chance to strike up some odd poses.
Anyone get some screens of theirs?
Would be nice. I’ve been holding onto all of that stuff sort of as a memento to the past events. I’m planning to buy another bank tab with gems, as soon as I break 5K and get those 400 free gems first.
I’m a fairly hardcore player, although I’m too lazy to do anything substantial, like making a legendary. I am slowly working on it though. I prefer PvE content, and rarely do PvP, and even more rarely WvW. I enjoy JP’s, and have almost all of them completed, and I love doing explorer achievements. I’m an achieve-aholic.
Top 3:
1. More challenging content. The Gauntlet was a good refreshment from face-rolling bosses in most dungeons.
2. DE’s to be more substantial, and more rewarding. As they are, most don’t change much of the environment; spare some enemies holding a town, or a tower not standing at that moment. The rewards are pretty small too, so I don’t have much interest in completing them unless they’re easy.
3. Better dungeon boss mechanics. Most are just hack&slash; tank&spank, etc.
The temp Aetherblade dungeon mechanics were nice, and I’m sure the Molten Alliance dungeon had some cool mechanics as well. (Tower was broken from F&F part 3 through the middle of Southsun; ended up not playing again until a week into Dragon Bash)
Yes.

There’s apparently a bug that he teleports to another arena; then eventually comes back.
The gauntlet is heavily bugged, and Anet has been slowly clearing some out.
I have noticed a slight trick with this fight, though I did it on my ranger with a 30/25/15/0/0 build.
If you can kill both bosses, even if Chomper gets meat, you can use the meat buffs the next fight for free extra damage.
So, assume you get three stacks of meat, and then Chomper eats one and dies, then you burn down Strugar in time; start the fight back up and you should still have some time left on those stacks.
Last bit of advice: Use stability if you plan to eat a 4th piece of meat, or more. It will stop the stun; and I believe it cancels out any debuffs eating more stacks will give for it as well.
My response is as follows:
I have yet to join in on a zerg train out in Frostgorge or Cursed Shore, but I have seen some threads about the verbal abuse and false reports some players have been getting for trying to complete the DE’s and such.
The new champ loot was an ideal addition, but it ended up going wrong.
It’s molded some of the community that used to be friendly and nice, to be more ruthless and unforgiving of some random passerby doing a DE for a little extra karma and silver.
I myself don’t mind a farming session, nor do I see anything wrong with is so long as the players aren’t getting so kitten about it, and doing these false reports and verbal abuse to the random player. I can’t bother with the Crown Pavilion farm on the Destroyers or bosses anymore considering how boring it is to me. I still have yet to see a new weapon drop for me yet, still hoping for Cobalt and one of the swords.
I do agree that DE’s could be more rewarding, even if it’s more silver, or karma. Some of the longer, chain DE’s could maybe get a daily chest or something.

I’ve heard Anet does have a script for them recognizing you, it just wasn’t properly implemented. Unfortunately I missed the third and fourth part of F&F, so I know they haven’t seen me before.
I’m sure they’ll fix it soon.
I usually skulk this and the Dungeon forum, along with the Ranger and current LS story forum as well. I often participate in the threads as well.
Poor fish.
He’s not gonna make it.
I assume you’re not full zerker?
I’ve currently completed every achievement in the gauntlet on my ranger (Except Light up the Darkness) Using my 30/30/0/10/0 build with a GS main, SB offhand.
I downed on a few of them, but the pet rally got me up almost every time.
Sure, they don’t attack your pet, but if you can burn them down/kite them/know the mechanics, they’re not that bad on a ranger.
I only had to change my build for Liadri and Strugar and Chomp’s achievement.
I may have used one of the two builds I made for them for the T3 gambit achieves, but otherwise I really didn’t have much difficulty on most of the bosses, spare Liadri of course.
I’ve discovered that the GS #4 worked on blocking Liadri’s Necrotic Grasps without doing the swing, and it would block her Insta-kill AoE’s without doing the swing either.
However, I did notice if I walked over the swirling lights that you drag the shades on it would do the swing like you got hit.
Odd the only time it did that was walking over a boss mechanic than actually being hit by something.
EDIT: Ranger GS#4 block
I don’t recall noticing anyone using it for griefing purposes, but it could be a possibility.
It’s kind of annoying yeah, but I still get a kick out of it when I see it doing Whirwinds in the center to random players.
Anet has four teams working on their own LS contents, and they plan to make updates in the future more ambitious and with a lot more permanent content.
When the Pavilion stuff ends, and the next content patch along with it, Anet is planning to end their festivals, as they now have a full portfolio of yearly events for the game.
We should expect to see more permanent and even better content in the future, or at the very least we can hope it’ll be soon.
Hmm, I wish they posted about these things. Could someone confirm this? Because if that’s true, I made this thread for no reason. It seems exciting
I’ll see if I can find the interviews again, I’ll edit this once I find them, unless someone else does it before me.

You’ll have to skim the first two if you don’t want to fully read, but the third one is his most recent statement I can find about it.

Watch the paths of the Ash Legion walking around. Once you get the general idea, it’s easier to walk and know where to stop. Their range of sight on you isn’t too far out, but being close to them isn’t ideal, even when standing still.
Just study their paths, and you should start getting the hang of it over time.

My problem with this fight so far is several things.
1. If I use my Ranger’s GS#4 to block, and if her regular attack hits me, I COUNTER ATTACK THIN AIR instead of continually blocking like I’m supposed to.
2. The fact that the light portals you use can spawn ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE ARENA. This makes it impossible for you to get any of her helpers in there, and guarantees a loss.
3. Said helpers can also 1-shot you if they get close, which will happen if and when you lag.
4. The fact that her AoE attack suddenly starts hitting most of the field easily when you hit phase 2.
I’ve used my GS4 for blocking a few times, and it took me awhile to realize I only did the swing if I walked over the light portals. Otherwise her necro grasp and AoE would just get blocked regularly, sparing me damage/death.
I just want to say that the Gauntlet was a lot of fun, and I managed to get every achieve on my Ranger (Except Light Up the Darkness)
Now, about Liadri. I understand the complaints, such as the horrible camera positioning, zerg lag, hard to see AoE, among others. They do add a slight degree of difficulty to the fight. I do have to say, after awhile I had gotten so use to it all (spare the lag, never had that happen) that it didn’t even matter, I was more focused on beating her than all the trivial things going on.
This was one of the most challenging aspects of the game, and after having to change my build, a food buff, the Hoelbrak emissary buff, and using all my evades possible (Thank you Charr racial pistol) I had managed to beat her two days ago after tireless effort; probably somewhere in the range of 75-150 tries.
The fight itself, for the most part, required a good attention span, the ability to multi-task, and it tested most of your skills to see if you really can play your class.
This fight may not be for everyone, but you should still strive to beat her if you really want to. You do have another 3 weeks to strategize, look up guides, and do whatever it is you may need to do to beat her.
Liadri was just that type of fight I needed in this game, something challenging, but wholly possible if you really take the time to understand the fight.
I see all these threads about needing to nerf her, but where does that leave us who have the bragging rights to say we’ve beaten her? Sure, we have our mini’s and our word, but if she gets nerfed, our word and mini’s won’t have the same impact when you’re walking around and seeing everyone showing off their new mini they got after a challenging fight was broken down to their whim.
So, I implore you Anet, please DO NOT nerf Liadri in any way. I can understand making the AoE circles more visible to see, but beyond that, the fight is great the way it is, and one of my most favorite aspects of this game, and update.
Keep up the good work, I hope to see some more challenging content in the future!
I think a lot of the speculation for a new playable race is towards the Tengu, considering they have a racial city, among other things.
And Anet said while it’s unlikely they’ll add a new profession, if they would, it would probably be another Heavy so it’s 3/3/3
Liadri’s AoE spawns clockwise in 1/4th of the room every few seconds.
Why not throw chomper into the mix aswell. And Deadeye Dunwell.
Don’t forget about those tornado’s.
