I tried it today and not sure if I’m going to do it. With just 3 weapon skills and without any utilities it is quite dull. Also without armor, utilities and proper weapon your damage is quite low. Basically it takes a long time and if you lose focus you get one shot.

I was able to get him to 75% on 4 minutes and that was with interrupting his berserks (+40% to time if you don’t unless condi-spec) and reflecting boulders for 20k hits.
This can easily take 30-45 minutes with less optimal setups.

so why would one choose to play ranged in coordinated small group(dungeons)?

its hilarious when 4 players got banner buffs, fury, 25stacks of might, and there is that one ranger standing 1500 away w/o any buffs, and later complains why no one wants him

Honestly, all this proves is that distance-based damage mechanics are incredibly dumb, which we’ve (or at least I have) known from the beginning. While I typically don’t have a problem with stacking in most cases, it just seems so contradictory of Anet to rave about this risk/reward setup between melee and ranged only to ruin it with bosses like the spider queen and subject alpha.

Long story short: Just more proof that Anet needs to get their dungeon design kitten together.

Alpha is higher risk and higher reward at melee. You are guaranteed to be standing on the ice spike. At range spider does more damage, in melee you can’t run out of its range if you get too low.

Alpha is NOT higher risk when stacked on, because 2 of his 3 potential attacks cannot hit a target that is on top of him.

And if you range and side step at all times you also completely avoid 2 of his 3 potential attacks.

When you stack you avoid those attacks without sidestepping. Less effort for the same result, therefore less risky.

Effort is not same as risk.

This is something I don’t understand.

Why did Anet intentionally make it so she only uses her ranged attack when there’s someone in range?

If you look at mobs that have, and only attack with, a bow. They don’t start meleeing you when you’re up in their face. They continue to shoot arrows or bullets at you.

Why? Because that’s how they’re programmed. If Anet wanted the Spider Queen Boss to use her ranged attack on people who are in melee range, then they would have coded her that way.

Taking that into consideration. It’s not an exploit, but a mechanic of the boss, and it’s intended.

Endure Pain always works if you see damage number on combat log (like with Deadeyes).

If it doesn’t appear on the log it is a health loss which is usually based on your maximum health.

IIRC, this feature was actually added to the game on purpose to prevent exploiting underwater utility skills (get underwater, use the skill, get up).

There is no banner cooldown bug. There is an underwater utility cooldown feature.

:O never seen that before. But it looks like it misses people even when they dont dodge or move and it looks like an uncommon attack even for a full ranged group. So I think its safe to say its still easier to range effigy because you dont have to dodge the burn and you have more time to react to the other attacks.

It’s not really used if you have people on close range. I would say Anet added that attack as a fail-safe if people outrange his attacks. I was there once messing around and if I recall correctly he was throwing it every few seconds. It puts an AoE for 20 seconds which you really can’t tank. Probably moving works but to be honest never tried full ranging anything.

-Slave driver murders melee if you dont have enough dps. Effigy is completely afk faceroll at range because his attacks all have limited range. Its pretty faceroll in melee but definately a bit more involved.

Effigy actually has a very powerful ranged attack. Not sure how far you/everyone? must stand though.

Each stack of defiant is removed by a control effect. When the stacks are gone, they are no longer immune until they rebuff defiant. Caused by Unshakable. Sink, float and Basilisk venom are the only CC effect that ignore the effect, or the wiki says they ignore the defiant buff anyway.

Cripple and chill (which are snares) are not control effects, though.

Cripple and chill are conditions that hinder movement speed and do NOT disable skills like control effects.

My point exactly. Defiant still ignores cripples, chills, and immobilizes, which are all conditions. As it completely negates those as it does all CC hard or soft, I see no reason to give PvE mobs a general debuff ability of any kind, to effect conditions. In the scenario the OP put it, it would hose damage conditions as well.

If only the game supported skills to only affect specific conditions.

Lyssa resets if you move away to go do the other events. Its possible to duo but the events are such a pain that your much better of trio’ing it. Actually fighting her solo while others deal with events isnt too hard though.

I got every defense event right after getting all events done. Guess I kind of got lucky.

In most situations you’re in far greater risk if try meleeing. Lupi anyone?

How about Subject Alpha? You’re at less risk meleeing him than you are ranging him.

almost any dungeon boss is harder at range…..a good part of lupicus included.
The Whole melee strategy is to maximize support and dps and negate the most mechanics possible while having free ress being Always in the range of 4 other players.

Obviously the lack of aggro system makes almost impossible splitting ranged combat and melee.

With proper kiting and zig-zagging you can avoid like 90% of attacks. So I would like to hear which boss is harder at range.

Lupicus phase 2? Zig-zag and keep moving and he can’t catch you.
Subject Alpha? Keep moving and you won’t get hit by ice or fire attack.

Sure, the enemies are packed quite tight but you can easily separate them with pulling. I also did 5 door events (killed 2 veterans and did 3 groups) and mined Candy Corn.

I agree it is quite hostile place and you will surely get into problems if you just mindlessly rush in. But is there a reason why it should be a friendly place?

You’ll need him to get around 8-12 to make his aoe lifesteal oneshot an elementalist I believe. Well, more one-hit killing attacks would add some challenge, but since he gets tankier with each grub it kinda kills the thrill.

Now what made me interested, if you get his damage high enough, would there be a point where he would one-shot himself with the barrage? I mean, his defence raises by a constant 10%, but the reflection damage is amplified by critdamage, so…

His defence increases more than his damage Im afraid, we already tried a 25 stacks feedback once before, the formula is linear and just decreases FB damage per grub

I should have thought you guys tried that already.

So it’s either max reflect damage mulptipler combined < Lupicus damage reduction, either the buff scales differently for his attack and defence, I guess?

Pretty much, I dont think anyone really knows how the empowered buff affects him precisely though.

I don’t think I will ever get bored enough to find out.

Tried on level 29 Thief. Dagger/Dagger. Traits 10/9/0/0/0. Assassin’s Signet, Smoke Screen, Signet of Shadows. Level 26-27 Masterwork armor/weapons and on average level 10 Trinkets.
Killing lone targets was extremely easy. Even taking 2-3 at same time was ok but required some effort. Running around was easy with Stealth.

Only issue was with the Horror. Very hard to escape him if he catches you offguard.

I don’t think I have ever seen these “elitists” to ask pvt (and so on) gear to be REMOVED. All they want is to play with like-minded people.

Then we have these “casuals” who want to destroy glass cannon setup because they don’t want to use them and want to get in EVERY party.

This has been said like million times. Play with like-minded people (create your own group if necessary) and most of the time everything will go fine.

I have melee soloed Lich in about 4.5 minutes. Not sure how that compares to zergs.

Also tried Horror but he is extremely unforgiving. You need perfect timing to avoid his melee attack and messing up means 5k-20k damage. On top of getting pressure from Torment.

Of course they do.
But I would say it is safe to assume that an expert in the field is less likely to make bad decisions than a random forum user without any numbers.
Just because someone is a dev doesn’t mean they are the best players in the world. They are primarily developing the game, not playing it.

Maybe you personally would, but would enough people do that so that they earned as much or more?
Quite clearly Anet doesnt think so, and I would say they are right.
Most people not buying stuff in the Gemstore now would most likely no do it if it goes cheaper either, just on principle.

But there is no hard evidence your right too. You should google “supply and demand equilibrium”.

I’m not sure why you naturaly think your price is the perfect price just because that’s the price you’ll pay.

Opinions don’t need hard evidence and I have never said my pricing would be the best. How do you know that current pricing is the equilibrium? That’s right, you don’t. So googling that term makes no sense.

You are not sure why I think my price would be perfect for me? What else should I pick then?

So instead of offering stuff cheaper and making me spend much more they keep higher prices and barely get anything?

This happens in pretty much any game. I feel like spending 10-20 euros to support a game. I enter their cash shop and look what I get. Maybe 2 hats or RNG stuff. Yeah, not going to happen.

Do you really think they would have the higher price if they would earn more with a lower price?
I would assume that they have a rather good understanding about which would earn them the most (they do have an economist on their staff after all, and one can assume that he would have way better knowledge and/or understanding about stuff like these than random people on the forums).

Clearly they earn enough money to be satisfied with the current model, so why would they change?

People make bad decisions and you really can’t assume they know their stuff. Have you seen builds some developers use in PvE?

Personally I would spend much more with reasonable prices. So naturally it would make sense for me that they lowered their prices. Only way to change my mind is to show some hard evidence that their model actually gives the most profit.
