I find that using crate makes the encounter too easy, we really don’t depend on the crate at all and so I don’t want to use it until I absolutely have to. In an Engineer vs Engineer fight it will go stale, both Engineers drop their crates and stay near it.

I wouldn’t call people who use a crate noobs though. What I generally say is if you use your Elite, I use mine.

Thanks bud for replying, I’ve been running the setup you suggest for FT/Rifle for the last 2 days since I’ve been back, enjoying it a lot as I adjust to relearning a lot of the game commands and movements and stuff, any suggestions you’d make for a returning engi to wvw??

Not a lot to suggest, really. Have fun in WvW and don’t give up when you die a lot, it’s pretty standard if you are still new. The longer you play, the better you get.

Also curious if Leg Mods is really that good?

It’s mainly for Inertial Converter, recharging our toolbelt skills at 25% of our health which can be a lifesaver. The additional toolbelt recharge and ferocity is also very welcome. Leg Mods is a nice addition due to us lacking in condition removal, having reduced condition duration on some conditions is already a nice help. You can combine it with Hoelbrak for example to get it to 50% reduction.

Sure thing. I’ll go there and check things out. But a website dedicated to engineer builds alone? That’s pretty awesome!

I started writing guides/builds specifically to the Engineer a long time ago on Reddit. I wished to expand it and so I got myself a website with some help of a very nice guy. Right now it is growing every week or so with more information and a lot that’s not about Engineer either.

Builds don’t include Minegineer, I am insulted :P. In all seriousness though, I would say it’s a viable variant to the SD build you have and you might enjoy it if you’ve never tried it. Some of my choices probably aren’t optimal because I like to stick to my gimmick but with a few changes you should be fine. Overcharged Shot -> Magnet -> Minefield + Detonate -> Prybar is surprisingly reliable.

Also, no I will not stop pushing this build because I think it’s hilarious.

I don’t find it as reliable as a typical TK/RT/UG setup nor a setup of TK/RT/EG. Sure, the power of playing that way can be incredibly good but it’s too easy to avoid I find personally.

4/15 was a long time ago, 9/9 is quite near now

Changes I made were mainly additional information. For example, some builds simply lacked skill explanations or trait explanations. I now added all that information to make people understand the build a lot better by reading about it.

The upcoming Feature Patch will most likely only change a few things or maybe cause me to add some additional information, nothing major I expect.

Very nice work, thanks for all you do for the engineer community.

Just a small OCD nitpick-if you’re going for min/max for the grenadier build, why wouldn’t you take Sigil of force? Also, since bosses strip conditions, how can you cap vuln by yourself on bosses without +vuln duration? Finally, wouldn’t you want the +5 power infusions rather than just the +5 agony resist versatile infusions?

Force is a possibility you can take over Bloodlust if you wish, I do value the 250 additional Power though. Bosses don’t strip conditions that often and some don’t at all, you can maintain a high number of vulnerability with GK and Jump Shot with the rest of the group filling the others. If that is not something they can achieve, you can decide to grab Koi Cake for example to give you that 40% condition duration or even go Giver (+ Toxic Focusing Crystals). About the infusions, of course you can go for the power infusions, I simply don’t value the infusions that much.

Hello everyone,

My name is Wolfineer, I am a YouTuber and a guy that likes to write stuff to help others. I have a website pure for the Engineer profession with builds, guides, engineer changes etcetera. In the past few weeks I worked on the builds I have over at wolfineer.com to update them with whatever they needed. This could be more information, small build tweaks or a simple new video guide. I documented the changes in a special category on the website. This category is called ‘Build Changes’ and can be found here if you wish to check it out. I wanted to make sure the builds I had on there remained up to date as it would be a shame to let people pick up a build that simply lacks in a lot of ways.

If you are making use of one of the builds or have a spinoff of one which closely matches it, I suggest checking out the Build Changes to see if I changed anything major. The small information that is revealed gives you an idea what the changes are about so you can skip through them easily. I am of course not going to ‘spam’ this Subreddit if I make small changes as that would be ridiculous and very annoying to you guys. The reason I decided to share this is because I just went over everything and now I won’t have to do so in quite a while. If you wish to stay up to date I recommend you to check the website every once in a while or by following me on Twitter as I post the changes on there.

Condi Duration vs Condi Damage

Condition Duration was something I never paid too much attention to. I had my condition duration almost always around 70-80% and never really bothered with increasing it further. Since a few months I know better especially after doing some basic math. I did not reflect that in my builds though and today I did and as well made an article and video about it.

In short, it’s in almost every case better to go for condition duration over condition damage and thus making Giver’s weapons a must have when running a condition orientated spec unless you are already at max without the Giver’s weapons.

I know that armor, you know why? I use it all the time. It is actually an outfit called ‘Ancestral Outfit’. You can find it in the Gemstore. Weapons are SAB Shield and Lyss (right?)

I find the damage on Rifle really good and I use it primarily for power builds. Seeing the damage go down for some bleeds would make me sad, I think they shouldn’t make Power Engineers weaker as I find that adding bleeds to the autoattack will only make Power Engineers weaker.

WTH is with this ellesee guy on every other thread? Is this like the engineer forum resident troll? Generally trolls are funny. On a scale of 0-10, this guy is a stillbirth.

I also get annoyed by this guy but only because he finds the need to mention he is the number #1 Engineer in North America and that he was the first one to hit Rank 80. If this is true, well that is awesome but I see no reason to mention it in every single post even some that are completely irrelevant to PvP. He should just put it in his Signature.

On topic: I don’t consider conditions to be overpowered for the Engineer but I do find it cheesy, it isn’t difficult to play well in comparison to power orientated specs (not counting decap). I think the idea of it having great impact on fights while also not being difficult to play makes it feel overpowered. That said, I personally wouldn’t mind some nerfs to our condition damage department.

WvW Roaming we are really strong, one of the best I would say with a shared first place with Thief. Although that is my personal opinion, you could argue that Thief is better at it than we are. For PvE, we are ‘alright’. We generally are not the first pick when it comes to an ideal party but we still are able to apply a ton of damage and provide vulnerability, might and stealth.

Possible build for WvW small group

Better to get TK over GK, you won’t be hitting a lot of Grenades anyways. Also, Pistol/Shield is better than Pistol/Pistol in most cases but it depends on your own playstyle.

Onto traits, you need Forceful Explosives to make Bomb Kit effective, also grab Incendiary Powder. Short Fuse is fine. Blood Injection isn’t that good compared to Protection Injection/Invigorating Speed, replace it with one of them. Same goes to Automated Response, either get Prot Injection or Invig Speed. Backpack Regenerator is fine.

Sigil of Bursting isn’t that great, better off getting Sigil of Torment (= extra condition we can’t apply through skills → cover up condition) or Sigil of Earth but that’s mainly for a Rabid setup. What is up with Rune of Strength? Why a power rune when you play condition damage. Consider Aristocracy if you are going to focus on stacking might a lot for your group. Trinkets should be Rabid and not a combination, you want to proc Incendiary Powder reliably.

Other than that, all good. You created quite a typical setup (6/0/0/6/2).

We have never been good Zergers and if you compare us to a Guardian and Warrior we are utter useless, haha. I know of another Engineer that does a lot of zerging with the flamethrower but I can’t remember his name sadly..

In terms of skills it doesn’t matter. Every combination of profession and race are pretty equal. You will however have a few issues when it comes to WvW/PvP as Norns are pretty big and you will easily see them coming and their animations. You can of course reduce this by not making your Norn maximum size

Let’s start with a nerf to Incendiary Powder, not to GM but something like shorter duration or less chance of proccing (30% to proc on crit for example). Then it’s time to buff everything but Kits to actually give us proper build diversity. Look at the Gadgeteer trait for example, how useless can a GM trait be? Seriously.

I’d like them to buff Gadgets mainly as they are simply too weak right now compared to Kits/Elixirs.

Good afternoon,

My name is Wolfineer and I am a ‘full-time’ Engineer player for over a year now. I created a website a while back where I provide viewers with a lot of engineer-related information. I wish to direct you to that website to help you out further. The website can be found right here.

Now you are asking for a spec that can be used in both PvE and WvW. WvW can be divided in two ‘modes’, one is Roaming which means you run around (usually) alone and hinder the enemy movement and the other one is called Zerging where you run around in large groups capping towers/keeps.

For a combination of PvE and Zerging I suggest the Grenadier build. You should change around some armor though for WvW as you need some defense, you generally go for Knight/Cavalier then as shown here. With this one you don’t really have to swap traits.

For a combination of PvE and Roaming it gets tough but I would stay with the Grenadier build for PvE and go for the Static Discharge Burst build for Roaming. This way you don’t have to swap that much armor pieces and just need to swap some traits around.

You just copied the builds and put them on your own site? Give some proper credit to the community dude. Mishva’s build is also slightly outdated yet you put it under Meta builds. Mishva is working on a new setup as the current one does not work that well anymore yet you still forward people to it.

Atleast mention the players who created it, this thread was purely so you could take someone els his build and put them on your website. You probably don’t even want to do PvP with your Engineer, you just needed us to get more ‘meta’ builds. Also, why do you feel the need to just show the builds? You can also directly link to the guide someone has written instead of some skill editor that means barely anyhing. That way the guy who spend time writing the guide gets some proper credit.

Having a website is all ok and such but be honest about it then instead of some lame story about you being new to Engineer and want to PvP with it. Gosh..

Static Discharge is your best bet if you want that ‘insta kill’ vibe. Check here.

Keochana also has a good setup that does a ton of damage. You can find his guide here.

I would advice though to not go full zerker, you will have issues with people who actually know how to fight or tanky opponents while a slightly more defensive setup can give you that defense you need to be able to survive these encounters.

Guide: WvW SD Control Build (Roaming)

This might be two months old, but I found it on Wolfineer’s site, and I think this build is great. A friend who has been running an SD burst build for a while (though I didn’t even know it until I really knew what it was) advised me to run goggles instead of elixir gun, and it has worked out great. I can totally see why someone would stick with EG, but the 10 vuln on toolbelt is great for the burst, and you still keep a stun break as the utility.

It is not just the Stunbreaker though, Elixir Gun gives you also condition removal, a great pressure on downed with Acid Bomb which can also serve as a way to escape, a (AoE) cripple and also a way to cleanse conditions from allies. The UG only gives more selfish stats, besides you got Inertial Converter in Tools which means your toolbelt skills recharge at 25% of your health (= free extra stunbreaker). The UG’s stunbreaker won’t get recharged then.. oh and it also has a longer cooldown!

I use them at close range for a guaranteed hit and yes, often you hit people with it if they chase you. I don’t see the Grenade Kit as a long range weapon in WvW/PvP.

My name is Wolfineer, I am an Engineer player for over a year now and have played nothing els but that profession. I have started a channel like 8-9 months ago and it got a huge boost right away as people seemed to enjoy the content I delivered. It amazed me because it was such a specific channel. It was about a class in a game and that class was at the time the least played class in the game!

Ever since then my channel got bigger and bigger, I started to hit the 1k subscribers mark and a few months after that the 2k subscribers mark. This was already huge to me but now I am sitting at 3k subscribers. That is just insane! It amazes me how I could ever reach such a number with a channel like mine.

So a big thank you to everyone who has been subscribed to me or/and have supported me over the months. I made a video which showcases clips from when I first started playing until now. Two noticable things in these clips are:

1. Me improving over the months.
2. The video quality getting better ;p

I find the standard condition 3kit build with either TK/BK/EG or GK/BK/EG rather strong. I don’t dare to say overpowered though but it sure feels really strong and quite easy.

I am not that interested in tPvP due to the direction it is going right now. I focus primarily on WvW. I would suggest you take a look at Ostricheggs, I believe he is one of the highest ranked Engineers in PvP (or was). He has a stream on Twitch and some videos on Youtube.

I noticed a lot of WvW engies use the pistols, is there WvW guides for Engineers with rifles? Is Hybrid Engineer viable in WvW?

Hybrid Engineer works well in WvW, I run a 3kit Celestial setup from time to time with great succes. This works with both P/S and Rifle.

On Rifle Engis you got of course the Static Discharge burst build but you can also go for a HGH setup with Rifle like this.

Wolf is a great player but I play a bit differently than his builds.
A 3 kit condition engineer (IMHO) should look at grenades, bombs (LOTS of synergy) and generally e-gun or rocket boots. Both of the later can let you reset. One is much higher in skill (but with more utility).

Bombs beat toolkit generally. You can always quick stealth to get some sustain versus block. Bombs take care of melee. Nades take care of ranged. Bombs also can provide very effective fields for might and stealth. Bombs are PBAE (ok delayed fuse but kinda) and toolkit is single target. Take the PBAE.

If you are running in a tight group I could see Bomb, Nade, Tool Kit as you won’t need the “escape” as often but may have to run into an arrow cart field or need to pull an enemy off a wall, etc. But overall, I find having the escape is more valuable.

I find the GK/BK/EG setup a lot better when playing in Groups while I prefer the TK/BK/EG setup when solo roaming. I feel like that Block does a lot especially versus Shatterer Mesmers, 100b Warriors and AA Rangers.

I did mention in my post that switching TK for GK is a personal preference.

No, people just range you, move to a safe distance or they quickly get rid of the turrets. A Thief can even use the Turrets to his advantage by CnD’ing of it.

Especially missing our bread-and-butter healing turret underwater just…. sucks.

I am generally very short in the water and so I can make good use of the Med Kit, pop the 5th skill on it and get out of the water again. An extra swiftness + fury boost!

Turret Overcharge Improvement

You generally place the turret, overcharge it and pick it back up. There is no need to wait for the animation then. If you let it stand there is a time period where you are waiting for the animation to trigger but barely anyone leaves his turret on the ground anways.

I don’t see the issue here.

EDIT: wait, maybe Experimental Turrets.

That’s mostly only relevant to healing turret, and maybe net turret. Or if you’re running rifle turret in an SD build since you really only want the surprise shot ability anyways.

The other turrets will be things that you generally want to leave deployed so they can shoot and CC people, particularly if you’re playing node defense.

I think the reason the overcharge works as it does now is threefold:

1. Something with how the abilities are coded, in that they can’t do an “immediate” activation trigger for some reason.

2. They wanted overcharge abilities to have some sort of “skilled timing” element, which is just a bunch of marketing fluffy stuff that contributes nothing to the in game experience as far as fun is concerned.

3. They were concerned that being able to chain a normal turret attacking immediately into the overcharge could be too powerful (i.e. net turret immobilizing, then getting another immobilize and stun for a continual 5 seconds of CC).

I’ve always felt the activation should occur automatically as well, simply because it makes it nearly impossible to use them during the split second moments you might need them. I mean, imagine if accelerant-packed turrets only occurred on next turret fire… it would be a much, much worse trait.

Alternatively, they could simply have the overcharges fire themselves automatically. It would fire upon deployment, which lasts for a set duration, and then occurs again after a set cooldown. Maybe make it so that it won’t activate it until a target is in range so that it doesn’t get wasted, or that it applies to a number of attacks. This means you wouldn’t have to spam your healing turret to use it properly, and it also means that they would be able to move the detonate abilities to the utility bar, allowing you to have access to your tool belt skills while the turrets are deployed.

At any rate, this is definitely one of the more vital improvements that turrets could use.

Turret Overcharge Improvement

You generally place the turret, overcharge it and pick it back up. There is no need to wait for the animation then. If you let it stand there is a time period where you are waiting for the animation to trigger but barely anyone leaves his turret on the ground anways.

I don’t see the issue here.

I find the standard condition 3kit build with either TK/BK/EG or GK/BK/EG rather strong. I don’t dare to say overpowered though but it sure feels really strong and quite easy.

Condi Sigils- Post-Nerf

For WvW I tend to go for Battle and Torment. I find the Torment sigil so good because it’s an extra condition on your target which could mean they strip the torment stack instead of my burning, versus necros this can suck a little though.. I also like going for Energy instead of Torment or Earth instead of Torment when I am dueling a lot.

For PvP I usually go with Battle and Energy. Sometimes I take Earth instead of Energy if I am dueling a lot but yeah that doesn’t happen often unless I duel with some guildies in a custom arena.
