Lol it’s kind of sad that the only viable option for roamers to have fun now is to leave WvW.

Not eu (and barely logging in now) so I’m just going to say gl getting this going, it’s not a bad idea.

The guilds listed here already did these kind of skirmishes but were severely crippled before because we did not have the Guild Hall arena before Heart of Thorns. Now we can organize these skirmishes at any time we like and with World vs World losing more and more players, this is a big deal for roamers. Hence this alliance.

The Roaming Alliance

Anyone that (solo) roams nowadays should have noticed how ‘empty’ or how anti-roamer the maps are. The new Desert Borderland maps are too large for roamers (especially since there aren’t a lot of players playing on them in the first place) and the upgrade system makes it utterly useless for the roamer to contribute PPT. There is no way a small squad of players consisting of 2-5 guys can get a tower that is completely reinforced. Don’t even mention the effort that needs to be taken to take out the Tower’s Lord. Also Supply Camps being fully upgraded makes solo roamers not even want to participate in PPT anymore. Now for Eternal Battlegrounds it can be fine and it sometimes is until the large blob/zerg/guild squads come on the map which either causes a silly amount of lag or makes roaming close to impossible due to the massive crowd everywhere. Therefore, since I know that there are still plenty players out there that do enjoy roaming (or small-scale fights), I thought of ‘The Roaming Alliance’.

The Roaming Alliance is an idea that brings various roaming guilds on the EU servers together in a non-rep guild. The idea behind this is that when the non-rep guild has the Guild Arena, all guilds can participate in skirmishes ranging from a 2v2 to a 5v5 (obviously with certain rules set to stop cheese comps). This non-rep guild would also get roaming guilds in contact with each other to organize skirmishes as well as gives the option to organize tournaments between the participating guilds. This is essentially a giant contact list that puts roaming guilds that otherwise would never meet in contact with each other. The fact we can provide an arena for those players as well makes this in my opinion a good idea.

The plan is to have around 10ish Roaming Guilds. If this sounds like something your EU Roaming Guild is interested in, please let me know through replying on this thread or contacting me in-game (wolfar.6508). I do want to say though that we are looking for established roaming guilds. If you are part of a guild that does roaming every now and then, this guild might not be of interest to you. Still, get in contact with me if you think it will work out. The current guilds:

  • Team Ignition [TI]
  • Cake Walk [Cake]
  • Walk On [Walk]
  • Pwnographic [pwn]
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • Empty
  • Empty

PS: I don’t personally view this as guild recruitment since we are only using the guild system as contact list and to get access to an arena. If you, mods, do view this as guild recruitment please just move it.

[EU][PvP] Team Ignition is LF Fighters!

in Looking for...

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

We are Team Ignition, an organised PvP (teams) guild with both Conquest AND Stronghold teams. We enjoy a good PvP fight over killing a Dragon any day of the week!

The guild is server-wide (EU) but our home server is Gandara. Since most of our activity will be in PvP, we don’t need to be on the same server together. Still, if players wish to play WvW together it’s great to be on Gandara. I recommend waiting with transfering until you are settled in. The last thing you and we want is to move someone over to our server only to see him leave/kicked several days after.

The size of the guild is between 15 to 50 players. By having a decent size we can ensure we have players around for PvP (Teams) and general WvW. We will never become a gigantic guild but if the guild is too small, you can get in situations where there aren’t enough members online to compete in for example an organised PvP team vs PvP team. I, Wolfineer, have personally experienced this during my time roaming in WvW and we were looking for players to join in for 5v5 deathmatches .

Important Details (TL;DR):
Purpose of the Guild: a place for players to compete with each other and fight other guilds/teams in a skillful manner, improving in both teamplay and personal skill level.
Activities: PvP (team) matches, WvW roaming, Dueling and (perhaps) PvE Raiding.
Max Size: 15-50 players
Representing: 99% Representation required. The 1% is for your own personal guild bank. Anything els you should be able to have access to through the guild.
Server: we are server-wide although the home server is Gandara.

How many quit playing WvW since new maps?

in WvW

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

I quit World vs World for now. I was in all the Stress Tests for the new map and it looked very promising from a roaming point of view. One thing that immediately was clear though was the lack of players. I assumed this was just because they didn’t invite the maximum amount that could fit on the map. So I was very positive at the end of the stress tests, I assumed once we all got to play it, it would become a ton of fun.

Sadly, this isn’t true for me right now. Perhaps as a raider you can get some joy out of it but for a roamer? There is nothing. So until there is a decent crowd for me to battle with (or I hear that other roamers start playing again which I highly doubt), I will remain in PvP. Perhaps roaming was never something ArenaNet intended for World vs World so it’s for the better we, roamers, leave the mode.

'The Scrappineer' WvW & PvP Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Thanks for the build Wolfineer, hope you dont mind if I note a few things:

1. Nades and hammer do not work as well as with rifle. Thunderclap into barrage is too slow, nothing beats toss elixir B into overcharged into barrage, freeze etc combo in terms of burst, especially if you’re running knights with zerkers. Hammer seems to work better with sustain or zerg builds.

2. I don’t see the point of Stab core if you’re solo roaming where its usefull after the fight (even then its not like you dont have other ways to safe stomp in this build) but if you’re roaming with a small group then running in with hammer is just asking to get nuked without a tankier setup.

3. You have a lot of tools that benefit more sustain oriented builds (HT, rocket charge, super elixir, even sneak gyro for breathing room) and high might stacking potential that will be underutilised due to a bursty gear setup in the long run.

1. I have never had issues landing grenades, especially with the Grenadier trait it is a piece of cake. You don’t have to combine Grenade Barrage with a CC as it will land just fine if you time it well. Especially if you are very close to the target there is no way the opponent can anticipate the use of Grenade Barrage, it might as well be the use of Chill or Sharpnel Grenade. Hammer works just fine with the typical power setup.

2. Solo Roaming involves a lot more than just 1v1. If you are fighting exclusively 1v1 it is better to take Recovery Matrix as I stated in the video. In a 1vX the function gyro having stability is the reason you can win those fights effectively. Just look at one of the roaming clips I showed at the start of the video. Even though the players weren’t great, if I didn’t have Stabilization Core I wouldn’t have been able to finish the guard. Oh and in group roaming it’s even better.

3. You should use the build. That’s all I can say. I have been playing the setup (and so have many others) since the beta and it works just fine. If you can’t manage with such a setup then maybe this is just not your cup of tea.

Do you think Traveler runes would be to much of a compromise?

I value the might duration and the higher power gain a lot. You are looking at +45% Might Duration, 5% damage increase and +175 Power vs +15% Boon Duration, +36 All Stat (only 36 power/ferocity!) and the movement speed increase. Since you can stack on swiftness with ease through using Thunderclap and Elixir B (or in WvW with the Med Kit) the movement speed is really not needed at all.

That would leave just the 36+ All Stat, 15% Boon Duration and 10% Condition Duration which gets crushed by the +45% Might Duration, 5% damage increase and +175 Power. So no, I would not suggest using Traveler.

Hello everyone,

This is my Scrapper build. A build focussed highly on might and vulnerability stacking while having a ton of condition cleanse, strong stability uptime and much more. It’s a build I run whenever I go out roaming in WvW, play Stronghold in PvP (Marauder Amulet), do Conquest in PvP (Soldier Amulet) or do duels with guildies in the Guild Hall Arena.

Anyways, I have both a text guide on this build and a video guide. It will explain all my choices and will also give you several options on what you can alter to the build to still be effective with it. I have seen many players prefer to replace the Elixir Gun with Slick Shoes for example.

We are Team Ignition, a ‘fight guild’ based around the (upcoming) Guild Hall’s Arenas. For us, a ‘fight guild’ means that the guild is mainly focussed on organised small scale fights (versus other guilds) as well as ‘tournaments’ with our own guild members. All of this will be held in our own Guild Hall’s Arena. We are still a WvW guild and will advertise as that but won’t require someone to move over to Gandara if they don’t want to. Of course, if you wish to play WvW with the majority of the players then moving to Gandara is the way to go.

The guild is server-wide (EU) but our home server is Gandara. Since most of our activity will be in the Guild Halls, we don’t need to be on the same server together. Still, if players wish to play WvW together it’s great to be on Gandara. The size of the guild is between 15 to 50 players. By having a decent size we can ensure we got enough players for 2v2-5v5 fights versus other guilds as well as frequent participation in the weekly tournaments held in the guild itself. Since we also want to do PvP and raiding, having a larger size than the usual roaming guild would be very beneficial to us.

Fighting other Guilds!
This is basically what Team Ignition has done in the past but this time far more organised. With the introduction of the Guild Hall Arena we can schedule fights versus other guilds (2v2-5v5) as we can invite players into our Guild Hall that aren’t in the current World vs World matchup. This means we can fight ANY GUILD at ANY TIME which allows us to set up so many more fights in comparison to before Heart of Thorns. Especially since with the release of Heart of Thorns, you will probably see far more players playing the game and thus more people interested in these fights!

Tournaments
This will be something like a weekly 2v2 tournament where you get randomly matched with a guildie and battle together for first place which earns you a gold prize. For example if 16 people were to sign up for this, you would have eight teams. Each player would have to pay 1g and battle the other teams. The team that ends up on top wins the ‘pool’ of money. Meaning the winning team can split 16g between each other. A gold prize is optional of course but it could spice things up a bit to make things more interesting. This is great to increase the overall skill level as well as teamwork.

Group Roaming
While we are allowing members to join from different servers, we are established on the Gandara server. This means that if you wish to roam with other remembers, it’s important you are on Gandara. Group roaming can be both a casual as well as ‘hardcore’ experience although if you really like to play competitively, the GvGs will be far more competitive than the roaming experience.

PvP Matches
We are not excluding PvP all together. There are going to be times that World vs World is boring, there are no scheduled GvGs and no one feels like dueling in the arena, you can go play PvP together. Even though we are primarily a WvW guild, PvP can still be fun every once and a while. It simply won’t be the main focus.

PvE Raiding
While we prefer the PvP/WvW of Guild Wars 2, PvE raiding is still great to do for ascended gear, gold, improving in communication and playing better (even if it is just versus monsters). It’s by no means going to be the focus of the guild but since there is a timer of a week on it, having one day to do the raid should be no problem.

Important Details (TL;DR)
Purpose of the Guild: a place for players to compete with each other and fight other guilds in a skillful manner, improving in both teamplay and personal skill level.

The Arena Wait Time and GvG

Wolfar.6508

As someone who absolutely enjoys dueling in World vs World and the fact that I know many raiding guilds (WvW) that are really interested in using the arena to do GvGs, it’s absolutely not a good idea to have us wait two months (because of upgrades) before we can actually use the arena. Many raiding guilds are retired until Heart of Thorns, what would spice up the GvG scene for many would be if they could use the arena to organize battles whenever they please (due to not being stuck with the current matchup). I think that loads of people are not going to be happy that they are forced to wait two months before they can start using the arena.

I think that the arena should be accessible from day one but you would start with a messy/crappy one. Having atleast an arena to use would be really great for the WvW community and I hope they rethink their decision to make us wait two months.

Organised fights versus other guilds

WvW GvG Meta?

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Engineer has some good viability in the focus squad of a 20+ GvG/Raid. This is because of the trait ‘Lock On!’ which is very deadly for the opponent’s focus squad (specifically Thieves). For solo roaming we are very solid roamers, I’d say 2nd or 3rd of all the professions with Thief being number one of course. For group roaming we are on a good spot although are quite weak versus focus fire. Luckily you can protect yourself by running Vampirism Rune, Elixir S and/or Self-Regulating Defenses.

When it comes to zerging, we are quite meh. In that case you don’t have a focus squad so the Engineer doesn’t really have a good spot at all as like Snakebye says, we can be replaced by professions that simply fullfill the roles better.

Meta build for WvW Roaming

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

See if any of these builds fit your needs. They are all fully up to date and I play all of them with great succes. The ‘best’ build depends on a lot of factors. For example a condition build can get absolutely destroyed by berserker builds simply because condition builds can’t ‘abuse’ the fact that those berserker builds have no toughness while a power build can make really good use of that and blow such players up completely.

Same story goes to a Condition Necromancer. A build that is incredibly strong versus other condition damage builds like the condition Engineer while a power build like my ‘Juggernaut’ build has an incredible good shot at beating a condition necromancer.

I recommend just look around what you like as there are a lot of (very) viable options.

Wolfar.6508

For small group roaming it depends on the comp you are running. If you are running a rather bursty comp (thieves, mesmers etc) that has access to stealth, you are going to have more succes with SD while if you run a sustain comp (guardians/eles etc) you are much better off with a condition damage build. For solo roaming it doesn’t really matter, pick what you prefer.

SD by the way has plenty of defense and you hardly run it full berserker. It’s just more about active defenses than passive defenses like toughness and vitality.

Wolfar.6508

Is it even possible to get 3.1k toughness? You would sit at around 4.1k armor in that case. Doubt the Guardian is able to hit that much on someone having 3.1k toughness. Anyways, a full on Burst Guardian with everything maximized (ascended, bloodlust, guard stacks, food) could achieve such a high number with Shield of Wrath quite easy. Especially in combination with things like Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Air.

Oh and I found ’what’s wrong with this picture’. You say you went from 20k to 3k while the guardian only did 7k! Then you would be left at 13k hp.

Hello everyone,

This is my (updated) version of the Static Discharge Engineer build for World vs World. It still features strong burst (even higher than before) while having a much higher survivability through traits and the Mortar Kit.

With the build video of this build, I used a script so that I did not ramble too much. This way I was able to reduce the duration of the video by a lot. It’s only around 10 minutes which isn’t much for all the stuff that I am covering in the video. These 10 minutes also feature gameplay of me playing the build so you can get a good idea of how the build works.

I have also updated my Static Discharge text guide that is over on my website, wolfineer.com. So for those that prefer to read about it or just want the build link, you can head over there to check it out!

[Bomb kit] What to wear on Explosives?

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Is this for PvE/PvP/WvW? I am guessing.. WvW.

This looks like a Condition Build with TK/BK/EG (or Rocket Boots..). Issue probably is Adept Explosives. Not much you can pick there when you only use the Bomb Kit. What I would suggest is taking Explosive Descent as that 5% damage increase is not doing much for a condition damage build anyways. Explosive Descent can help you in WvW to juke out opponents better (or as a simple shortcut).

Firearms looks fine to me, can’t and shouldn’t really change much there. Have to see how much IP is doing for us post-patch els you could remove Firearms altogether and go into Alchemy for example.

In Inventions take AMR, so much stronger than Over Shield. Other than that it looks fine, consider switching out Bunker Down with Medical Dispersion Field when you are playing in a group.

Condi/support PvE

Wolfar.6508

As this is for PvE, Incendiary Powder is not really needed. You already apply loads of burning with your Bomb Kit. Really don’t need more. Firearms is not really that good in my opinion for your build. I would go into Explosives instead and grab Grenadier, Short Fuse and Sharpnel (or one of the others, they are all good).

Other than that maybe Automated Medical Response instead of Over Shield? I believe it will recharge the toolbelt skill of the Med Kit. Some protection when you get ‘bursted’ by a group of monsters. I dont find the protection that great coming from Over Shield.

For gear, could even go Full Apothecary. Why not? I think you don’t have to be in the middle of the two, really. Els consider replacing Sinister with Dire, that bit of power wont do much and you dont need precision. Rune is fine, should work well. Sigils however.. meh! I would go with sigils that heal allies or sigils that remove conditions from self (as that is still a weakness) and not those two.

For skills, you are ment to take Elixir Gun instead of Elixir B right? As you run with Inversion Enzyme. Also I am personally not fond of the Med Kit. You can blast much more (and thus heal much more) with your Healing Turret.

As if condition grenades wasn’t a thing already…?

In any case, if you want to maximize the effectiveness of that sort of synergy, you’d likely need to invest in explosives and firearms, leaving only one other specialization line open to you (probably tools).

So it’s not like it won’t have to sacrifice some things, but it will definitely give a boost to overall damage output. If nothing else, it’ll make the carrion-based grenade elixir build I use in fractals that much more potent.

For WvW/PvP, you just go Explosives/Firearms/Inventions and you got plenty of defense while maximizing your damage output. No need to invest in tools if we got the 25% movement speed trait in either Firearms or Inventions.

Wolfineer doesn’t help me since it’s WvW mainly, and as I said I don’t play WvW and don’t plan to join in.

Just because I play mainly WvW, doesn’t mean I am utterly clueless about the other two game modes. Besides that, WvW and PvP builds are very similar. There are hardly any differences so you can even run my WvW builds and just replace the gear with the proper amulet.

For PvE, you got Metabattle with the most optimal PvE build.

Doubt it, the 6/0/6/0/6 just looks much better for Cele than Condi and that will be the meta pretty much. I can only see me penalizing myself by going into Firearms instead of Explosives for the conditions.

Sigils for Cele Engi

Depends on how offensively you wish to fight but I prefer to go with Energy + Cleansing. Energy so I can grab Protection Injection which allows me to absorb far more hits, really effective versus Hammer Warriors for example and in outnumbered situations. Cleansing because we lack a bit in condition removal where Cleansing comes in really handy (can cleanse a fear for example!)

For PvP I would replace Cleansing with Intelligence.

best 1v1 build vs ranger and mesmer

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

For Longbow Ranger, I would recommend a Condition Build where you make good use of Tranquilizer Dart to lower the damage output of the Ranger by a lot (weakness). When he switches to Greatsword, you can do quite a bit of damage to him thanks to your Grenades. It’s often a foolish thing to do for the Ranger to swap out to his Greatsword (as most rangers can’t use it properly)

For Mesmer (Shatter I assume), it’s tough. A created an article regarding how to fight those guys. Might be worth a read for you. Again I would recommend Condition Damage here but Celestial and SD can also works. Issue is that Celestial can be kited easily while with SD you lack defense to survive any direct burst.

Hope this helps you!

As already mentioned, something that helps us fight better in melee range. The hammer is most likely going to be melee and it needs some abilities to go with it so that we don’t just easily get kited around the area.

I am thinking survival-ish skills. In the trailer we saw those little robots, could be some sort of shield like the robots absorb several hits. That could be a survival-ish skill.

Small-Scale GvGs

in WvW

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Good day,

My name is Wolfineer and I am a member of Team Ignition. A Guild interested in Small-Scale Fights (Roaming) as well as Small-Scale GvGs. The purpose of this post is to inform other (roaming) guilds that we are interested in doing small scale GvGs (2v2 – 5v5), that we would love to create a (small) community around it as well as make more guilds interested in it. By doing small scale GvGs, you as a roamer are guaranteed of a good fight while still doing what you love. I know for a fact that there are plenty of roamers that like to play competitively but there is simply nothing available for them as they generally don’t enjoy raiding (it’s mostly because in fights like 15v15, 20v20 the individual skill is less important in comparison to while roaming).

If you are a (roaming) guild interested in competing with us in 2v2 fights to a max of 5v5, feel free to leave a comment and I will reach out to you or you can reach out to me by whispering to Wolfineer (wolfar.6508). I would also like to encourage guilds to simply post that they are interested in this so we can form a list with guilds that are interested in Small Scale GvGs and make it public. In our case, we play on Gandara which is an European server. We can not compete with North American guilds in that case sadly. I will however create a seperate list for NA guilds so they could reach out to each other as well for these kind of fights.

Fights could take place in Edge of the Mist or (if possible) in one of the borderlands. If you are competing with a guild that is on Vabbi (for example) while you are on Seafarer’s Rest, the chances of those two servers being matched up is 0%. So in that case Edge of the Mist is your best (and only) option.

Not sure if there is already something available for this, my apologies in that case.

Evasive powder keg - make it an adept trait

Evasive Powder Keg is quite important for me as the bomb damage is really high. It also punishes chasers. If this would get moved to the adept tier it would be a huge nerf for me. With proper use of your dodges, you shouldn’t get destealthed often anyways.

Wolfar.6508

Thanks Wolf!

I was hoping the writeup would have a little more to it, but I guess you need us to watch at least part of the video. I’m starting that right now.

I agree with much of your cursory review. I’m not at all concerned about nade kit losing the range, in fact I would trade the range for projectile speed right now if I could. Explosives and Inventions look like they have great synergy, I see most Engineers pairing those together. Stacking 15+ might and getting healed for every blast you do sounds very insane. Obviously stacking it on top of water field blasts is cool and will probably result in a full heal for your whole party or close to it. Unless it’s something useless like 20 heal per blast I see this being very very powerful.

Unless I missed something it looks like all the turret traits (barring TBDs of course) are in Inventions. So you don’t have to use up all your points if you want to run turrets. Aside from turrets being useless for much of their existence this has been my main gripe with them. I’m interested to see how I can run turrets and still have two other trait lines to customize my build. Firearms is a logical choice for one since you’ll spend more time in your weapon rather than kits, but we’ll have to see how it plays out.

I’m excited about Firearms damage potential. It looks pretty solid for either condi or power. Robo Legs looks pretty cool, I hope it comes with +25% movement to get people away from defaulting to Tools for speed though. Also how do you have robot legs but you can’t run faster than anyone else??? I hope this was an oversight in the slideshow.

Tools has the disappointing merge of SD and Power Wrench like you mentioned, but it’s another trait line that I like overall. Speedy Kits and KR together is pretty cool, I’ve missed using KR even in its current lame state. Cleansing Formula 409 must have taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Alchemy seems pretty meh, but that’s relative to our other options overall it’s not a bad trait line. It does have a TBD in every slot so their could be some special stuff hidden in there. I think we’re in a real good place if this is our worst trait line.

As an aside, do we know for sure you can spend 6 points in each trait line you choose? I’m seeing the three minor traits as being sort of pointlessly stripped apart if you get all three anyways. I didn’t catch it in the stream, but if they did say you can get the GM trait in each line you choose then that’s sort of weird to me.

EDIT: A comment on your video said Shrapnel is 100% chance with no CD!? As excited as I am to try the new Mortar and use that trait, Shrapnel is now absolutely insane even if they reduced the bleed duration.

I am still not sure about Firearms. The traitlines Explosives and Inventions just look so strong together that it’s hard for me to see anything els work just as good. Tools is just so strong because of Inertial Converter already. That trait is really good and has saved me many times. On my Static Discharge build it sometimes was THE reason I won the fight.

As far as I know, you have to spend 6 points in every line when you specialize in it. As it is pointless anyways not to go 6 into a line as you can only take a maximum of 3 traitlines.

Oh and about that comment, that can’t be true. I mean no cooldown and a 100% chance means permanent cripple and very high bleeding stacks. Sounds just a little bit too OP!

Engineer Skills, Traits and Builds Discussion

Wolfar.6508

Hello everyone,

So yesterday we got a ton of information from ArenaNet regarding the new trait system as well as a look at every single trait for every single profession. You are all aware of this most likely.

So I wish to share a video and an article that I created for the Engineer changes. This includes a short talk about the skills, an in-depth look at all the traits and future builds discussion. For sure their development is still in the early stages and a lot can still change but you can already see what will synergize well with each other and what could potentially be the new ‘meta’ for the Engineer in PvE/PvP/WvW.

The video is rather lengthy, it’s 47 minutes. I therefore created a ‘Table of Contents’ at the start of the video so you can skip to the exact part you are interested in as I can understand completely that you are not really interested in listening to me for a full 47 minutes. If you are then I am very impressed. It’s this long because there is a lot to talk about that is not doable in a much shorter time without losing on information. I am pretty sure I already missed quite a bit of information especially since I read the opinions of other Engineers.

Top 5 Plays Series (I need your help!)

in Community Creations

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Hello there,

My name is Wolfineer and I run a YouTube channel. I recently started a new series that I call ‘Top 5 Plays’. It showcases good clips from both WvW and PvP which I commentate. I recently released the first episode (check here) and it got some great feedback. It was an episode with only YouTubers basically. I really wish to continue this series as a lot of people enjoy them and I enjoy making them but there is one thing I am missing:

I lack a good amount of players submitting clips to me.

This project of mine is such a great community thing but I really need people to submit clips to me. If people don’t do this, I can’t continue the series at all and have to cancel it. Now you get where this is going.. I am asking you, to send in your clips. I am 100% sure there is a ton of great players out here on this forums. I really need YOUR HELP to make this a great success. You can submit your own clips by checking this page. In short: please send a mail to wolfineers@gmail.com with a link to your clip and a short description.

So you might ask what’s in it for you? Well you will get recognizition. If you have been an excellent WvW Roamer or PvPer for months/years and can easily beat all those ‘silly’ YouTubers but simply never felt like starting a youtube channel or start streaming, this is an excellent opportunity for you. You can show how good you are as a player to quite a large crowd. You are not that good as a youtuber? Don’t worry! You can still submit your clip! In the future if this series really kicks off, I can start giving away prices like X amount of Gems or a certain amount of Gold. Before that will happen though, I first need your submissions!

TL;DR: I am looking for WvW and PvP clips for a Top 5 Plays series (more info here and here). Please help me out and send your clips to wolfineers@gmail.com!

A Top 5 Plays Series? (Idea)

in Community Creations

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Hello everyone,

So I have always enjoyed watching Top 5 Plays from videogames. You see these regulary in League of Legends (example) and a lot of shooters (example). They give the viewer a look at some great plays from various players while the viewer can (usually) also vote on which one they found the number one play (of the week for example) out of the 5 clips. These Top 5 Plays also give the players featured in the video, a ‘moment of fame’. As the viewer of the video will be able to see his name together with his play. It can make otherwise unknown great players become known.

So when I was looking around, I did not see any Top 5 Plays for Guild Wars 2. Yes, this is a MMORPG and it’s kind of unusual to have a Top 5 Play (as generally people like to play the game over watching others play it) but I can see it work for Guild Wars 2. We can have a mix (or seperated per episode) of World vs World and Player vs Player clips that showcase a great play with commentary.

Reasons that this can work are:

  • Otherwise unknown great players will be able to make a name for themselves without needing to start a YouTube channel. It’s tough to get a subscriber base and some people don’t want to invest that much time in youtube. This can be an excellent solution in that case as existing youtubers can grant them their ‘moment of fame’.
  • The game is very skill based (with some exceptions in WvW) which can lead to fantastic plays that are very enjoyable to watch. A viewer can learn from the moves/mistake the player makes and adjust his own gameplay to it.
  • It can be simply entertaining. Remember Yishis’ Outnumbered videos? Those featured some excellent plays done by himself. It usually took a while for him to create the video because he had to actually make the plays (and commentate them). This can be done much faster when a person gets the clips from other players which he can then commentate over. You can then make it a weekly thing for example.

I wish to volunteer to do this although there might be one issue. That is my accent. I am from the Netherlands and we have a very clear accent, you can easily hear it. This can cause some users to have a hard time understanding me which can ruin the fun for them (as the commentary is a very important part of those videos). I can however make this less of an issue by writing scripts for the individual clips so I am able to focus on how I pronounce words instead of thinking about the words I wish to say.

Now for this to work it is important that people actually send in clips. This is really a community thing, if no one sends anything it is impossible to make a video. This will be tough to boot up at first but as we progress and people learn about the videos, it can grow quickly.

If I get a positive response on this thread, I will try and sort out a first episode. This will most likely feature mainly clips from myself as it is basically a pilot episode. When people enjoy the format, I can include different clips from different players. The different clips can be send in by linking URLs from Youtube for example or uploading the file somewhere. Uploading the file might not work because the files will be large and you need to store it somewhere. That will often cost money.

For people that already got clips and wish to send the URL to me (after they uploaded them). You can use this my mail address: wolfineers@gmail.com

So, are you willing to give this a shot?

Am I running an Optimal Spec

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Sir, you could have also asked me if that build is still updated and my view on it. The build is still very effective. It is a very standard setup but it gets the job done. An Engineer is all about reacting to your opponents move (with a few exceptions), if a Warrior decided to use Earthshaker you can quickly react to that by using Static Shot (or just dodging) or if you see a Mesmer going for a Blurred Frenzy + Shatter combo you can quickly absorb the damage by blocking with your Gear Shield (or Static Shield).

The Engineer is quite a difficult profession which can be the reason you struggle. Just keep playing and you will notice that you get better and better at the profession. Also keep in mind that there are always counters to you. The P/D Thief and Condi Necro is really strong versus you and thus you should not expect to win versus them often.

EDIT: this is the spec he is referring to.

Let’s stay on topic please. Talking about new skills.

Well, I just want to address that I prefer balancing the old ones over new skills. What’s the point of adding new skills if the Kits are going to be superior anyways?

Would love to see some new Elixirs, Gadgets (like the flying bots in the trailer) and what not but then there needs to be a reason for me to take them over a Kit. That is often lacking.

Runes for Cele WVW Rifle Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Pack should be replaced with Hoelbrak.

Why should it be replaced by Hoelbrak? Pack is a very solid rune choice and it also gives great group support. The fury and precision gain helps really well with the otherwise decently low crit chance. I would not say he ‘should’ replace it with Hoelbrak. Both Pack and Hoelbrak are excellent options. Even the Strength runes are still a valid choice.

Also, I am guessing with power food you mean the newly introduced one with +power and +condition duration? Because condition duration is rather a must on Cele. It’s a huge boost to your utility with longer immobilizes and longer chills.

To OP, the Cele Build is not really designed for zerg play. You are much better off with a more power focussed build in my opinion. Something with Valkyrie and Knight for example. The Cele build is better for Roaming.

Assassin Engie?

Wolfar.6508

I’m halfway gearing my full zerker engie when it hit me, is full assassin engie viable in wvw or zerker?

I do not see why you would WANT to build full glass on an Engi.

Why :

Might is SOOO easy to get on them when you have the sustain to build it.
They do not have sustained DPS. More burst. Other than Bomb1 and Nade1, which isn’t ideal with full zerk gear as its ground targeting.
SO much healing skills that will help a LOT to get SOMETHING that sinargizes well with it, Toughness/Healing power.

So just wondering how you plan to survive?
Unless you plan on Zerging mostly, in which case the question is pointless as ANY DPS build will work in a Zerg.

If you run a Static Discharge setup you got a very high amount of burst without really missing out on utility that much. It’s (still) a very effective setup in WvW and I have had great succes with it.

Pretty sure you run something to keep you alive instead of Full Zerker/Assassin?

I run full Berserker on my SD setup but make great use of active defenses like Dodging (in combination with a decent Vigor uptime), Blocking (Toolkit’s Gear Shield), pushbacks (Accelerant-Packed Turrets and Overcharged Shot), Immobilize (Net Shot), Leaps (Acid Bomb and Jump Shot) and sometimes Armor Mods (Aegis). You also got the Guard Buff in WvW that increases your health by 2,500 which is really nice.

I also use Vampirism Runes which are really a great benefit. Reasoning here.

I was really prodding at Wolfineer, honestly.

I have never called the Perplexity Setup with Condition Damage ‘cancer’ nor any other offensive words. The only thing I have said about it is that I find it a lame way of playing and that it doesn’t teach you how to properly use your skills.

I also don’t run that setup at all. So what do I have to do with it, really?

Just not sure how to build for WvW. Mostly run with the zerg. When there is one. More or less have to run by myself.

Survivabilty if my main key. I am old and can be slow on the buttons. Not even sure which race to go with. Little guys look fun.

Appreciate any imput……thank you

Walk On [Walk] WvW Roaming Videos!

in Community Creations

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Hellooo everyone,

My name is Wolfineer and I am a member of the guild Walk On [Walk]. We are a very active WvW Roaming guild on the Aurora Glade (EU) server. We aim at fighting far larger groups than ourselves as well as provide overall support to the larger allied zergers by ‘ninja capping’ or keeping the opponent busy.

We apply a tactic we like to call ‘Guerilla Warfare’. When we meet our enemy, we don’t stack up but instead scatter/spread out. By doing this the enemy can’t focus well on us as they’ll we have to run after one person which allows the others to freely deal damage to them (and get their backline). This tactic works for us because we have all been roaming for a very long time. I myself have been roaming for almost two years now. We are able to hold our own versus multiple opponents and have a perfect understanding of every profession.

I myself find it very interesting to record these fights as (most of the time) the viewer can hear us coordinate the battle well as well as see us perform rather great (imo) plays. It is also something different from the usual videos you see that involve large battles as we play it out very differently.

July 22, 2014[Walk] Outnumbered (Our very first roaming video. Most of us were quite new in the guild and thus our coordination wasn’t perfect. Yet the fights were rather rewarding/interesting to watch in my opinion.)

December 14, 2014Walk On [Walk] Reset Roaming #1 (Far more coordinated fights as we got to know eachother a lot better. These fights involve mainly around us holding north camp at a borderland map versus a much larger group of opponents)

December 18, 2014You can’t Spawn Camp us! (This video is a short clip of us dealing with people that sat in front of our server’s spawn. It does not feature commentary but it displays that we got a lot of coordination together even without teamspeak)

December 20, 2014Walk On [Walk] Reset Roaming #2 NEW (This video got released today and it features various fights where we fight outnumbered. These fights take place at various places and not just at north camp like the last reset roaming video. I am aware that there is a clicking sound in this video, I forgot to enable push to talk on my recording program. I hope this does not ruin the video for you.)

Playlist for those who want to see the videos bundled together.

I hope these videos are entertaining to you and you are able to learn something from it. The build I use will always be in the description of the video or just browse my build page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here and I will respond to it. Criticism is also appreciated aslong as it is constructive criticism.

NOTE: we are not recruiting.

A good shatter Mesmer can easily take down an Engineer in PvP. Yeah, we can block the burst if we have Gear Shield up but that’s not the case often. If you play Shatter Mesmer well you can really take us down easily even if we try to retreat.

In most cases we only have one stunbreaker so whenever that’s on cooldown we are vulnerable to any type of CC. We are also very weak versus conditions so if you grab a condition spec (aka PU Cheese), you can easily kill us. Now that kind of spec does not work well in PvP though due to the Conquest Mode.

I’d say play the profession and you will notice the weaknesses easily.

Condition Duration build

in Engineer

Posted by: Wolfar.6508

Wolfar.6508

Depends so much on your build, where you use it and what enemies you fight regulary. Condition Duration is a strong stat but it simply is not worth it if the enemy strips those conditions off quickly before it can even reach the additional duration. Condition Damage is strong for the inital ‘blow’. Condition Damage is better aslong as the conditions don’t reach the point where with condition duration the condition would still be ticking.

Also, the Rune of Nightmare gives you a fear (which is with your condition duration 4s). That’s another factor you should consider. Fear is great but not versus targets with lots of condition cleanse. stability or stunbreakers.

The setup also matters. If you run a build that is able to maintain strong conditions well versus any opponent, there is no need for additional condition duration. If you rely on just Incendiary Powder for burning, some additional condition duration sure is nice to get a higher burning uptime. The Grenade Kit also works well with condition duration as a higher increase on bleeding and chilled is very nice.

Gosh.. I’d say just play with it and see for yourself how it feels.
