The AoE changes haven’t happened yet. The devs just let everyone know that player AoE already has a 5 player limit. They said they are still deciding on how to make changes and what abilities will be affected.

Making them balanced would not remove strategy. And the combat in this game will guarantee it will not be like any other MMO.

AoE was reduced to hit a maximum of 5 targets. TBH, I really think AoE is a good thing that helped reduce the zerg mentaility that is in WvW and nerfing it was a bad thing.
My major issue with AoE though, was that it was instant-cast. I think this was because Anet wanted to cater to the casual gamer who doesn’t really take PvP all that seriously.
AoE was always limited to 5 targets. They are talking about an actual damage redesign. And I don’t like the “it counters a zerg excuse”.
The whole few can defeat many mentality is a blatant imbalance to try to counter their imbalanced server populations. Not to mention if the zerg uses that same AoE against them… Duh.
There should be more aiming and focusing of individuals and less dropping bombs on zergs. Would provide so much more depth to large group fights. You actually would have to learn to fight classes instead of masses. <—-Dr Seuss baby.

I know ANet said they are going to be tweaking AOE because too many guilds/players are utilizing it as their main offense/defense. But has there been any update on when that is happening?
There isn’t even a debate. It is way too strong. I don’t like walking out on the battlefield and getting killed when no one ever targeted me. That is just bad gameplay. Getting killed as collateral damage even when I have my power, toughness, vitality gear on and full tank spec. That’s just silly.
I hope this isn’t like oh we’ll tweak AOE sometime in 2013 AKA november/december. And sooner rather than later.
I love GW2. I love WvW. Most of the time. But big fights are a snoozefest to me. All they ever consist of is both teams painting the ground red and zerg balls TP in through mesmer portals. That isn’t good challenging gameplay to me.
That is in Arenanet’s own words "gaming the system". So anyway has there been any other followup posts from ANet with a timeline on the AOE revamp?

Yeah the picture of the black lady made me do a WTF.
But I did appreciate the mention of banner healing warriors. I haven’t played banner healing since October. I dusted it off today and have been enjoying myself. It’s a refreshing change of pace.
I prefer hammer and mace/shield for healing spec though. If I’m going to be sacrificing damage for healing I might as well go all out support and bring a lot of stuns, knockback and knockdowns.

Why? You’re playing a AAA MMO that has been out for over 6 months. Warrior has had almost 0 bug fixes since launch. We’re not even talking buff/nerf I just mean abilities that flat out fail 50% of the time STILL haven’t been touched.
You need to start demanding more from a developer. Put the fire to their feet!
What do you do on a warrior? Wait don’t answer that cause it doesn’t matter. Whatever roll you play you can do it better on a Thief, Mesmer, Guardian or D/D ele.

I saw those calculations before, and they are wrong. (Well, at least the calculating I saw)
They guy was assuming Greatsword immediately = 25stack might.I did not do tests with any pre-gained might stacks. Neither did i do calculations.
GS DPS is higher than Axe/Any DPS, in about 99% of all situations in open world PvE and Dungeons. Even on single target. It also inflicts more vulnerability.
And to tell you: with GS you will be able to maintain about 7-9 Might stacks for each target.no axe has higher DPS when traited.

5sec weapon swap allows u to spam HB.. then quickly go back to AXE, then back to HB right as the cooldown is worn off…You cant match DPS on ANY class in this setup on a warrior…
So you believe i tested Axe DPS with a GS Build? Lol. I’ve been using 30/10/0/0/30 on Axe. GS still has a higher DPS output, if you don’t believe it just try out yourself.
@CookMETender. I do not feel offended by your posts, i just can’t understand how people can still claim Axe/Any’s DPS higher than GS’s whithout testing it themselves. If people would start thinking and less reproducing distorted calculations the whole discussion about which weapon offers more DPS won’t come up at all.
To clear up things once more: The “activation time” of the skills ingame or in wiki is not the real time it takes to channel the whole autoattack chain. The damage numbers shown in skills description/wiki are not right. Trying to calculate the overall DPS by doing some maths with wrong numbers won’t tell you much except bullkitten.
GS offers more DPS than Axe, if hitting multiple targets and probably having chance to WW to a wall, about 33% more. If hitting only 1 target landing 100b not fully and only using it all 8 seconds, GS still deals very slightly more DPS than Axe with Eviscerate + Autoattack spam.
You just offered up a bunch of fairy tale details after you just told people to stop theorycrafting.
Post a video with time stamps or your claim is just as useless as anyone elses.

I’m convinced if they took the tallying number off of 100B this silly issue wouldn’t happen anymore. People are fooled by that high number when in reality it’s a bunch of small numbers stacked up. The fact is axe auto attack hits harder per hit than 100B. Only + side to 100B is the amout of hits in 3 seconds. Then you’re back to kittenty DPS for your 6 and a 1/4 cooldown.

Not sure why are we talking about “burst” healing?
Shouts on wiki:
Formula: 40+((Level^2) x 0.18) + (Healing x 0.8)
At 0 healing at level 80: 40 + 1152 = 1192
At 1500 healing at level 80: 40 + 1152 + 1200 = 2392
Because you can fire off 3 in a row for all the healing upfront rather than waiting for regen to tick. If you’re about to die you don’t have time to wait for 200hp/s.

Everyone has there own play style. And the highest dps is situational at best. You get higher dps with the gs if your enemy is shoved against a wall/corner. Axe/axe axe/mace axe/shield I guess has more utility in open combat than just standing there spamming 1 and 2 with the gs. Your not a troll for running axe/mace I am actually gonna run that as my secondary for dungeons. Everyone has there own play style just play however is best for you and just let “elitist” be elitists. And the axe burst attack is the most single devastating move in the game.. TO MY OPINION and I run gs.
TY that’s what I was getting at. I mean I only have 1,300 hours played and I actually started to doubt myself that maybe everything I thought I knew about the game was a lie. It was more than one person in map chat that was against me and seemed like I was the only one defending axe/mace so I thought maybe I could be wrong. rofl
Anywho, like many have said even if one is higher than the other it boils down to personal preference and I like to be able to stay mobile and not drop any DPS where every second that 100B is off cooldown and not being used is a loss in DPS.

Pro tip: log into EB before 4pm est and stay there. That is where the fun is.
In T2 keep ninjaing is pretty standard. If your group isn`t resilient enough to fight a zerg trying to ninja the keep you are trying to cap then you lose. Of course in T2 they buff up with combo fields then drop mass invisibility and portal near or on top of you and disentigrate you but hey that`s life. The game actually gives advantage to the person doing the ninja. Or if the zerg is greater than 20 then forget the portal and do the buffs and mass invisibility. A bunch of melee tanky builds are on top of you before you know it. All that null field and hammer stuns and offhand mace knockdown and necro elite form conditions and guardian spinning GS and 9 second invulnerable 6 second quickness 1h sword ranger spam and mind wrack and utter annihilation. Really is the downside to WvW. Whoever came up with boon stacking on combo fields and mass invisibility wasn`t terribly brilliant.
The term ninjaing needs to be redifined now. A 20 man group can now flip towers/keeps with ease. SMC got flipped ~5 times in 3 1/2 last night. Most of that because of having less than a 25 group won’t pop the Xs.
Another Reason it got flipped so easy: YB was so kind to leave the rams up from our previous attack.
The 8 people that are still queueing up for the rest of the week didn’t get around to it.

Yeah I think I’ll stick with axe/mace. So much better for actually playing the game and not standing still facerolling the 2 key.
The fact that this guy called me a troll had me second guessing myself. If anything they are too close for me to even give up mobility for a slight DPS increase.
He was acting like GS did double the damage of axe/mace. If that was the case if I switched to GS I’d be one shotting bosses. lol

So is it opinion or has one been proven superior by data?
I always use axe/mace but I just had someone on my server call me a troll/newb because I said axe/mace is better than GS.
I’m not a number cruncher so my experiments usually consist of me attacking a veteran then adding up the numbers in my combat log. I don’t really know how to do a real official test.
100B usually hits around 20K maybe higher.
I added up 1 rotation of my axe auto attack and it was at 18K just from the 6 hits. I’m fairly certain 3 chains from the axe totaling to six hits goes off faster than 100B but I didn’t use a stopwatch or in any way time my test.
Also I can move and never lose dps on my axe/mace whereas any bossfight that becomes mobile you’re automatically gimped with GS.
If someone has already done these tests with a more closed system to not get numbers screwed up I would love if someone would share a link.

The insignificance of stats comes from skillful play, you’re ability to dodge an attack or your opponents ability to dodge an attack more than makes up for any statistical difference.
- It doesn’t have to be perfect world. We can just make the assumption that player skill has normal distribution. No matter what your player skill is, you’re still 10% more effective by having full ascended equipment. I think the idea you’re having here is that increasing your skill as a player will have more impact on your performance than having / not having ascended equipment. I agree with this idea.
10% more effective… what the cat does that even mean? Effective at what? Where did that 10% come from? So far with full ascended jewelry the best damage increase I’ve been able to tweak out is about 7.6%, but that’s purely Damage (taking into account precision as a secondary stat).
So you’re already up 7.6% from jewelry? So what happens when weapons and armor are put in? ……

I’m not even mad about the money, it was only one other point. I’m just saying it seems harsh to set a time limit even earlier than the end of the already short month. And yes, that is ArenaNet’s fault… in my opinion it was thoughtless, again because of the short month. Of course it’s not their fault I couldn’t log in, but that’s not what I’m saying. I’m also not crying a river. It’s (a little more than) mildly annoying and I wanted to see if anyone else was in the same situation.
5 days is less days than there are in February? Oh wait no. It’s just shorter than the ONE DAY you thought it would take to complete a monthly. Asking someone to play 5 days out of 28 I don’t think is unreasonable at all.
All I can say is lol @ your logic. Suck it up and start on March’s tomorrow.

If you run a class that uses two greatweapons don’t you feel it’s kinda getting screwed on sigils? If I run axe/mace on my warrior I can stack 2 sigils on one set that have synergy with one another. If I use say hammer/rifle in WvW i’m stuck with 1 sigil per weapon.
Is it really OP to have 2 sigils on a 2h weapon? It’s the same amount of attacks on both weapons… The only difference is aesthetic that I’m actually holding a 2h weapon. Strikes me as odd that the decision was even made to limit one set to only 1 sigil while dual wield sets get 2.
Is it possible for a dev to post and give their reasons for not allowing it? If it’s OP and I just don’t realize the technicality of it I would love to be enlightened. (Serious not sarcasm.)

The fact you can chain stealths together is the problem lol… Mesmers and Thieves both can constantly stay invisible and dish out loads of damage. Stealth needs a higher cooldown that’s about it. Mesmers and Thieves are in no way easy to take down, especially ones that know when to re-stealth. Sure they’re squishy but all their stealths and conditions make up for it. And you can spec Mesmers to be quite beefy.
Sorry I get long winded in my posts. I highlighted in bold what your said in one paragraph that I was trying to say in eight million paragraphs. lol
I have no problem with thief damage or other mechanics. That stealth spam is infuriatingly not well designed.

I suppose you haven’t seen a good bunker warrior. A good bunker warrior, wouldn’t just stay in one place and take a beating. But yeah, go ahead facepalm and laugh all you want.
Stop talking about things that don’t exist. Make a video or stop spouting nonsense. Warrior doesn’t have a bunker build. It has a decent damage mitigation build. Bunker builds are self sustaining walls that take multiple people to bring down. A warrior can not indefinitely sustain even in a 1v1 fight.

asccording to this discussion, around 95% of all players NOT playing thieves, are so bad they really shouldnt be allowed to plat this game. On the other hand 100% of all thieves are so GOOD and PRO mensa will send you an auto invite if you roll thief in gw2
^ this is how it is in every thread where people are in denial stealth is terribly executed in this game. In pre release interviews the developers cited WoW rogues as being OP because they had perma stealth and could lie in wait… And then they use one opener and they are stuck fighting you…
GW2 version: The exact same as a WoW rogue except they can rinse and repeat every 3 seconds with more burst damage. And if things go wrong they have umpteen million resets. GJ ANet. YOU NAILED IT!
I understand they want to keep “class roles” and whatnot so they don’t want to homogenize all classes into having the same abilities. However, if you’re going to give one class 4 different “oops I messed up time to reset the fight” buttons. That is blatantly imbalanced.
And stop with the 100B! We can 1 shot someone ONCE PER MINUTE. With very low chance of success if that person has even a sliver of PvP skill. This discussion is about spammable OP resets/oops buttons.
Since we need to keep bringing up the 100B “1 shot using all utility cooldowns” OPNESS. I have a compromise. Make stealth a 1 min CD. See how offended you just got? Then make frenzy a 20 second CD. See how offended you just got again? Such a hypocritical double standard in this game.

Same. I usually sit at a solid locked 60 FPS with vsync enabled on all max settings in dungeons. I dropped to 24 fps in the graveling burrow room when Hodgins is looking for the first scepter in path 1.
Definitely caused by the patch yesterday because that’s never happened since launch.

The jumping around is what people do all the time to annoy another person to try to make them fight thats what I was doing there. Notice how the person there said all I could do is stealth but that is pretty much all I could do with arrow carts and 4-5 of you.
I remember the reason I attempted to distract you guys was because we were getting attacked at Anz or about to take so I went to go and try to distract some reinforcements.
Instead you guys waited around to try and kill me. I’m sorry but honestly you could have left and did something else like the other people that eventually left. I couldn’t have stopped you.
I agree with your last statement but they didn’t need our help and that kinda takes away from the fact that stealth is completely ridiculously OP and needs a longer revealed debuff.
Imagine there was a team fight there instead of us just fooling around. 4-5 thieves doing what you’re doing. The fact is 1 thief can keep a large number of players busy and still do extremely high damage.
This isn’t fun for everyone else that has to stand there and take it. You said it yourself. Our counter is to run away. That’s unacceptable in a PvP balance debate. I kinda have the same attitude toward D/D eles right now. Lately I’ve just been sitting back like high overlord watching the different classes and seeing how drastically different they get played.
The large majority of D/D eles move through the battlefield like they are gods walking with mortals. Just breezing through a zerg by themselves with impunity. No fear of getting CC locked and dying.
Thieves are to the same effect but because people keep losing their target. When you see them by the time you have them targeted and your projectile travels to them they’re gone again.
Mesmers… IMO mesmer is almost obnoxious that it is even allowed to be what it is. It’s basically all the most OP aspects of other classes rolled in to one. Stealth ruining any hope of targeting in a flawed targeting system to begin with. Clones… targeting system nightmare once again. Portal. Time warp… 10 second quickness (with no side effects).
These 3 classes make up the majority of WvW and sPvP. Why? Because they are all blatantly broken. Or everything else is just severely underpowered. I’d be willing to accept the latter. They are supposedly 3 of the most fragile classes in the game but through traits and whatnot end up being the most survivable.
A warrior is supposed to have “a sturdy body” but is actually one of the least survivable. Sure we can take a hit if we’re full PTV geared out and tank traited (which actually most classes can)… But we can also get CC’d into oblivion which kind of negates all that tankyness. It’s like I’m trapped in the MMO twilight zone.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If a warrior beats you in a 1v1 and you’re not also a warrior, he beat you because he is working 300% harder.
Sorry I segued from thief stealth to WvW balance. I am just really passionate about this game making it in the long term and as it stands I think balance is it’s biggest opponent. And I refuse to hop the thief, mesmer or D/D ele bandwagon. (Don’t get insulted if you’ve been playing one for awhile please. That’s why I said bandwagon. =P) I’ll stick with my warrior until I stop playing GW2. Which hopefully will be later rather than sooner.

your 7 man guild is only a guild out of a technicality, am i entitled to all the guild rewards by making a 1 man guild? of course not, join a real guild instead of getting angry about not being handed rewards for clicking the “create guild” button
The 4 members that are left in my guild can complete everything in the game ourselves except for bal and grenth so we are a real guild

I haven’t seen one thing I liked today. Got to Orr and heard about pent/shelt changes so I went to check it out… BAHAHAHAHA Who play tests this stuff before it goes live? I’ve heard someone say it before. I’ll repeat it. Why isn’t there a test server? Let us play this garbage before you push it out. You could avoid failures like this in the future.
AC… The final bosses are cool. Everything before them is still terrible and not entertaining. Again, who tests this stuff? Are they too busy trying to suck up to the devs thinking their highschool diploma and high speed video game playing skills are going to get them into the REAL gaming industry?
That’s my theory. Fanboy playtesters that just tell people what they want to hear.

The problem is that they have offered no offset and have thus eliminated a number of builds from the list of “end game viable”, which for many professions was already a very short list. This problem has been acknowledged by the developers, with the admission that they want at least 5-6 viable builds for each profession, but many are currently stuck with one or two. You can now scratch at least one “end game viable” build from each profession with this change, maybe more.
This is the kind of nerf that always irks me the most from MMO developers. Looking at the heal on crit food effect in isolation, it may have been obviously disproportional in it’s impact on the game. However, when taken in context with the greater whole, it had just become an “unintended” FIX for an aspect of the game that was clearly BROKEN, which was variety of end game viable builds.
So, yay to the developers, you managed to snatch some very low hanging fruit, while making the game the worse for it by pushing the change with out the needed fixes to professions that would have made the food effect redundant.
How strange… I simply have a build on my mesmer I threw together to be balanced and there’s no end game content I can’t handle, including WvW. Oh… never used Omnomberry pie either.
Quiet MESMER. Classes that actually need to worry about survivability are talking here. lol

PVE it’s fine, even in structured it’s fine to some extent.
However in World vs World, I can flat out say..Stealth needs to be changed.
Now I know some people are going to be like “Oh look someone died in pvp to a stealther and now is whining”
Actually, its the opposite..I just got done playing my Thief in world vs world…and frankly i’m disgusted how easy it is to play the class out there.
Not only am I able to stomp on pretty much everyone I come across solo…I can frankly attack large groups of people with ease, and either kill a lot of them, or get away whenever I want.
There is no real disadvantage to playing the class at all….
So as a thief, I’m asking Anet to actually nerf stealth in world vs world..Make it somewhat challenging at least..
I completely agree. But I’m not a thief, just a simple ele who is sick of running at the front of a Zerg and still being absolutely decimated by an invisible power. It is not just that I have low health and armour, because I have a survival/condition ele so tanking is not a problem, it’s the bloody backstabbing thieves who crit 16ks and run. But don’t nerf stealth, nerf the backstabbing effect.
I disagree. Nerf stealth. Mesmers don’t have backstabs and it is just as ridiculous. It is easily the best survival mechanic in the game. In a game with so many people on a battlefield (WvW) stealth being used every 3 seconds is completely ridiculous for everyone who doesn’t have stealth.
That tired argument that thieves will be defenseless without the ability to disappear every three seconds… Then give them more endurance for dodging. (Something that involves timing and player skill.) I know I’m a rocket scientist problem solver.

Well, 40 laurels by just playing the game, and 50 ectos from TP or salvaging rares you get by playing the game.
The only grind I see is the one you put on yourself. You can get your ecto from pent/shelt runs and Plinx over and over again. Ill get mine from fractals, the rehauled AC, and another dungeon or two.
Your way is grind. My way is fun and lends progress to multiple goals. Perception vs. reality is a kitten.
I think the grind he is referring to is the 40 laurels. Basically including a monthly requiring you to invest 30 days in a game and only getting 1 accessory slot?
The necks have no other source other than laurel so I can’t even be rewarded for my skill in the game. I just have to give ANet 30 days of me playing and get a reward.
There should be an option of actually playing the game to earn those rewards faster.

Most of us have been on both sides of a “zerg”. Playing out manned gets particularly frustrating when players get wiped back-to-back-to-back. People just stop playing because it isn’t fun thus perpetuating the cycle.
In my opinion folks need to stop worrying about dying back to back and instead focus on what they can do differently the next fight. Do it often enough and you will stop dying back to back, regardless of being out manned.
Yes, you will just hide in your uncap and wait for more people to log on.
Skill does matter. But when you face a wall of red there isn’t much skill involved that will allow you to outplay that.
Everyone always comes with these L2P solutions. Being outmanned 3-4 to 1 isn’t an L2P issue. It’s a go find something else to do until more people log in and this actually becomes a game issue.
Especially with the amount of fire and forget ground targeted attacks in this game. Zergs are ridiculously lethal even if they aren’t targeting you. If you just happen to be that poor 5 man group roaming looking for some action. That 20-30 man zerg is going to steamroll right over you without even taking the time to target you.
Edit: Unless you’re a mesmer or thief. Then none of what I said applies to you. You can just roam around the map with impunity because the stealth in this game is the worst implementation I’ve ever seen in 13 years playing MMOs.

Well, I wouldn’t advocate shorter matches based on that rationale.
The Tues-Friday downtime for players allows them to back off from the game and relax more freely. Take some time off and watch LoL LCS, or whatever.
E.g. there’s life beyond GW2.
Week-long still allows for the conclusion of close matches when they occur. Note that “close” doesn’t have to be all 3 servers. Even if two of the 3 are close, it can be an interesting matchup.
Bold for lulz… Life beyond GW2… Watching someone else play another game. Exciting life!

Virtually no amount of skill can have a player consistently winning (and by winning I mean killing) against a significant number disadvantage unless they are some kind of super phenom player that I have never seen or heard of aside from forum warrior posts.

Hey guys i’m Rooster, some of you may know me on this forums for some of my subtle trolls, some by my score updates but i am here to discuss a pressing issue that is emerging in tier 1 NA. This is not about the current score or the domination of Jade Quarry but rather the antagonization and unhealthy propaganda that is going on to purposely destroy other tier 1 servers communities.
Currently the amount of trolling, personal abuse and antogonization that is going on behind the scenes in the current tier 1 community is redicilous and appalling, never have i ever in my video game history witnessed such desperate attempts to bring down A server through such horrible propaganda.
I will start with my current server Sea of Sorrows, or some may internally refer to ourselves as #SeaofSwag. Currently the situation is not great we lost two guilds and are attempting to rebuild our community, however the negative propaganda from certain sites and individuals is making this extremely difficult. I will refer to an exhert from the community site Guild wars 2 junkies which spreads random false rumors about guilds leaving.

" However more despicable is this post included screenshots of Sea of Sorrows private chatbox which the site may have recieved intel from, which is considered spying.
Now the problem with posts such as this one is they specifically antagonize certain guilds and individuals as the root of the problem. this puts unnescsary pressure on the guild and an immense and unhealthy amount of pressure on the individual which i will say has done alot for the sea of sorrows community. Now the site didn’t mention why the outburst occured, it just focused on the outburst its self.
That is just one example of many of negative propaganda in attempts to implode a server which in my opinion is disgusting.
Now i will move onto Jade Quarry, upon post of this thread i had consulted with a prominant Jade Quarry GM about the issue and he had told me that the issue was affecting his guild aswell, where he explains that certain unknown individuals had made personal attempt at undermining the guild with personal attacks which put a financial strain within the guild due to resources on repairing the damage done.
So the current situation in tier 1 NA is horrible, the community and lack of sportsman ship is redicilous and when i heard of notable guilds being attacked personally and my server being repeatedly bombarded with propaganda which causes a rift and strain within the community about who’s next to leave it’s not healthy.
My solution lets leave this way of recruitment, the battle should be fought in the battlefield not through gossip i honestly don’t understand why some individuals would stoop so low just to bring down certain servers and attempt to create negative rifts within communities which affects personal life especially in the case of the Jade Quarry guild where the actions of some caused them to throw real life money and resources for them to repair it.
Lets all just have some fun, don’t worry about the score stop trying to undermine servers and stop spreading unnescssary rumors and gossipThank you.

In a real war, sabotage, subterfuge, spying, and lies are all fair game. “exploits” and “hacks” are also fair game to those players that are willing to risk their accounts to gain the upper hand to win the war.
ArenaNet may patch up some exploits and hacks. But rumors and gossip? I don’t you’ll ever stop that.
Yet you are playing a video game. In your first world country. Please don’t compare a video game to real war. It makes you sound like you are delusional.

Easy solution. Whatever the cap for a BL is make it so each team needs to have X amount of players at multiple locations to force the division of a zerg. As it stands you can send you’re entire player cap in a BL to the same location and just zerg it down.
If you added all kinds of secondary objectives that also need to be done to take a keep for instance so you can’t have everyone at the same location it would create a lot of small group battles that would reward player skill rather than stacking 30 aoe circles.
Just my 2 cents.

The consensus is we can’t beat the Yak zerg on their home turf. We just don’t have the manpower for that while staying competitive in EB and holding our home turf.
I find yaks actually terrible at defending their home BL.
That’s because most of us go to EB. YB BL never has a queue at prime time. EB always does.
