All this talk about drinking is making me thirsty. I think I’ll make some coffee.
I guess it’s time…
When I play my ranger, and send my pet to attack a champ, if another player comes into the battle I’ll put my pet on passive or switch to my spider. If I see a warrior attacking the champ with a rifle, I’ll put my pet on passive and run the champ directly at the warrior while thinking “keep complaining about ranger pets.”
I use to play my Mesmer a lot, especially in CoE. Every time we got up to the laser hallway someone would always chime in “Mesmer can portal.” So, just to tick that person off, I would attempt to jump through the lasers instead of just blinking through them.
Course, could just start calling him ‘Shamu’ as well….
No, Steve. Steve is canon.
No, he cannot be Steve. Steve is scary chainsaw massacre skele in Mad Kings that’s kittened off because he lost his GF (Lich) to the Count.
(I forget what we named the other 2. Catherine and Vinnie I think. Had a long, looooooong labyrinth run with some really fun people one night and we had a whole love triangle back story going on for those 3. Was super funny)
Catherine and Vincent?
That game was…..odd
I was hoping that this would be introduced this patch as threads appear every LS release on the subject.
I think practicality every player would appreciate it if the replay mode for achievements was a condensed version of the ‘main story’ that threw you straight into the action.
I’d like that too. After you’ve seen it four or five times, maybe more depending on how many other characters you have, you can already recite it verbatim. Depending on how many restarts you have to do to get the achievement done, sometimes you just /rollseyes and alt tab while the cutscene is playing…again..for the umpteenth time.
You said it right there. Soloers. Because it is impossible for a single player to put out the sheer amount of damage to quickly kill a dungeon enemy, survivability becomes much more important.
You need to put out as much damage as possible to be able to solo dungeon bosses as you need to kill them before they can kill you = avoid as many of their attacks as possible.
While true, a single player cannot put out the damage required to kill a boss before you run out of dodges (aside from thieves). Thus, building more defensively becomes optimal because those stats matter.
I have never seen a video of someone soloing a dungeon without zerker gear*. Search for solo dungeon videos – they all need the damage.
.* Not saying it doesn’t exist since I haven’t watched that many solo dungeon videos and I’m mostly interested in thief anyway. Have watched some warriors soloing dungeons though – also full zerker.
Edit: And this game is designed for 2 dodges being enough. if people dodge randomly (like me at times) it’s their bad.
I solo dungeons without full zerk gear. I would post a video, but I really can’t afford any good editing software. Or capture software. Fraps really got on my nerves.
I used to love healing. I loved it when a “pro tank” would pop frenzy. I’d let him die. He’d post stuff like “1” over and over, until he fell. I never laughed so hard.
Also, if you like back pieces(Mad Memories/Maudry), then you’ll need some crafting profession(s) at a certain level for them. As well as the reasons other posters stated.
Agreed. One of the reason I tend to stay away from large group events is because I’d rather not get a headache from all the flashy lights going blinky blinky. It’s also a pain to try and see the boss through a mess of effects. Hopefully we’ll get a slider or tick box some day.
I also opted to turn off the highlighting. Way too much shine and my poor eyes felt like they had a dagger go right through them. Now all we need is a slider to tone down particle effects.
nomad, bro?
This made me chuckle.
That looks like Gumby’s horse. I forget his name though.

Meta (from the Greek preposition and prefix meta- (????-) meaning “after”, or “beyond”) is a prefix used in English to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to complete or add to the latter.
Ugh..wouldn’t let me add in the greek spelling…
<——-Soloist. Never have to worry about what all the “cool kids” are doing. :p
When you log into the game it brings you to the character selection screen. On the lower left it’ll tell you what server you’re on.
I’ll upload mine as an example.
Post script: My photoshop skills are horrible
OP said he can’t log into the game at this time.
Oops, yeah I missed that line in the original post..my bad

Actually, I liked that function as well. For some reason, maybe a bad case of crs, I can’t remember where I was shown when I hit the show me button. I’ll sit here for five minutes and chant the name of the area, go to my map, and completely forget where I am supposed to go.
But, yeah, that was a nifty function.
Why the dragons are evil ? There might be bigger forces that controll them. Someone had to create them, and command to destroy.
assuming direct control
I loved that series.
technically they are giving us something to drink via living story.
now if the living story is mountain dew diet cherry, is that something up your alley? that is the real question. Some people like it some people don’t.
personal opinion, I prefer vanilla coke or a nice bottle of smart water myself.
I prefer coffee myself.
cream and sugar?
No cream, just sugar.

This whole thing can be summed up in one word….
sub·jec·tive adjective \(?)s?b-?jek-tiv\
philosophy : relating to the way a person experiences things in his or her own mind
: based on feelings or opinions rather than facts
This is how someone can say X is grindy but not Y.

Except for most players its the loot that makes its fun, or at least repeatable.
This. Whenever I see people write on the forums about playing ‘just for fun’ and talking about rewards being unnecessary, I am genuinely puzzled. Rewards are at least half the fun of any MMO.
Different strokes for different folks. Some people don’t need that “new shiny toy” or that huge gold drop to have fun in an MMO..
“….what is “The Goal” of GW2 if not to get the shiniest things?”
The “goal” of this game is really what you make of it. It’s your option to go after the “shiniest things”, some may have another goal in mind. Me personally, I don’t really have a goal except to kill off some time from my day and have a bit of fun doing it.
edit:forgot the other f in off….

Not all MMOs are grinding…
- Ultima Online before AOS
- EVE Online
- Archeage
- A Tale in the Desert
- Wurm Online
- Second Life
And any other sandbox game. Because sandbox games either will pit you against other players, so the endgame is to kill other players and conquer their open-world territory, or it is to do social engineering and become well-known and well-liked amongst other players, or it is to express yourself by creating the most awesome new constructions and content.
I would love to have sandbox features in Guild Wars 2. I kinda expected it to have that, and was very disappointed to find another grindy themepark game. I’ve been having a lot more fun with Archeage these past few months, but unfortunately that game has many bugs. For me the perfect game would have the combat system of Guild Wars 2, the class and equipment system of Guild Wars 1, the player housing and open world of Archeage and the territorial PVP and player-driven economy of EVE Online.
I played EVE Online for a bit. You had a choice in what you did, missions, pvp, mining ore from some asteroid belt, some I can’t remember because it’s been too long. Anyway, you still had grind. You weren’t going to get the skills you needed to train your pilot in one shot. So you had to do stuff, over and over again, to get either the ISK to buy the skills, or find them. Some of those skills…sheesh. I do like how in depth the “auction house” was though. At least that’s what I remember. Every time I blew up my ship, it was back to mining ore, to get the ISK, to buy the same ship I had and outfit it.
Post Script..I’m the king of comma splicing. :p
No matter what any developer of any game game does, they’ll always be cursed. Cursed if they try to stay away from grinding, some of the playerbase actually likes to grind for things. They call it “farming” I think. Cursed if they do, since the same argument keeps popping up. Also, if you look at the quote it says “grinding treadmill”. I’ve been using exotics for the better part of two years now. I solo dungeons. /shrug.
Edit..forgot about the kittens….had to change a word..
“But you still get achievement points from it.
”
Irrelevant. The topic is PvE only players cannot complete monthly. But nice try.
Edit: The quote button is doing funny things again.
I’m a PvE only player and I finished my monthly weeks ago, without touching a jumping puzzle. I don’t see what the problem is really.
I just want to point out the evidence does indicate you DID touch a jumping puzzle!
:)
Those three were done after the fact. Besides, it isn’t completed so it didn’t count towards finishing the monthly
I’ve heard of Glint’s Challenge. In GW1.

I get a giggle when people try to tell me to check a wiki or a youtube video before I go into something for the first time. Then I end up doing it myself. /shrug
I’ve ran my Ele, Mesmer, Ranger and Thief through LS with minimal problems. Got all the achievements solo too. I just had to plan accordingly to each characters playstyle. The skill delay sounds like lag to me. I don’t really feel “punished” for playing solo. Just my take on the subject. o/
As a result, the audience was treated like they’re bi-polar……
What exactly do you mean here?
This is horrible news for someone whose payday is on Monday. But I hope the rest of you get what tou want for a good price.
It lasts from black friday to “insert name here” monday !
Not sure what monday is called since I dont live in the US and the first I heard of black friday is when GW did it last year
It is called, “Cyber Monday”
Who comes up with these names?
I get the usual greens and blues. Anywhere between 1 to 5 rares depending. Last run in SW, I just finished that run maybe ten/fifteen minutes ago, I got Usoku’s Needle. Oh, and a bandit weapon from the bandit chest. That pretty much sums me up.
I’m 36..37’s just’s around the corner. I remember logging into Legend Of the Red Dragon on a 56.6k dial up modem. My first Rpg was pen and paper DnD. Seems like only yesterday my Drow died…./cry
Here is an idea for ya. You want pvp to mean something, right? How about if they added Hoh? (Hall of Heros)
I have to be honest, I am against a solo mode.
I think the whole point of dungeons is to provide content that requires group co-ordination and presents a challenge.
Solo modes would just divide the player-base.
My advice would be to just watch any cut-scenes you miss on youtube, it doesn’t really detract anything from the dungeon if you watch them before / afterThe playerbase is already divided. On the one hand you have your elitists, on the other, everyone else. It also has another division as well. Pvp and Pve players. Every MMO is like this. Has been since I first started playing them.
I think you’d find there’s a lot more than 2 divisions of players. There are elitists, but it’s not just everyone else after that. In that other group you have the opposite extreme of white knights who go out of their way to harass and demonize anyone trying to play at a higher level than they are capable of. You’re not necessarily an elitist just because you try to maximize your efforts.
I go full zerk/assassin on my characters using as close to meta as I feel comfortable in any given situation. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy playing with people of various backgrounds and play styles. I ran a COEp1 last night with an obviously non meta group, I was an Engi with a mesmer and guard int he party and I was the only one to bring Reflects and the only one in melee range for some encounters. We slowly trudged our way through and I honestly had fun, I had to laugh in whispers with a buddy about it, but I made no complaints as again, it was a fun change of pace.
So does wanting challenge, and trying to play to the best of my ability make me an Elitist? or am I one of everyone else, including the people who go into dungeon selling groups just to grief them?
Or, are there a lot more categories of players than just 2?
I wasn’t trying to be insulting. I was only using those groups as an example of how the community is already divided. That’s all.
I hear if you make it into a nice vinaigrette it’ll go well with chrysanthemums.
Doesn’t the cook in Hidden Arcana say that there are no culinary uses of bloodstone dust?
Yes he does, then the other guy says he’s going to get a cart, take it to the streets and get rich. (paraphrasing of course)
And I still can’t solo any dungeon..
Story Mode or Explorer?
It’s been awhile since I did Lv80 Arah Story, but at that time, I tried to solo it and I can’t because I need another person to put down the stone. Maybe it’s been changed now though, but I haven’t really tried. As for other Story Mode, I haven’t attempted other Story Mode dungeons yet.
Arah hasn’t changed. You still need another person to step on the pressure plate. The rest aren’t so bad to solo.
All I ask is that they diversify their design a bit.
Right now it’s a lot of open world content. I’d love if they would give us something with a little challenge, give me another lupi!
I realize those that want that higher level of challenge are in the minority, but they are still there, giving us a bone every now and then isn’t too much to ask for is it?
Like the Triple Wurm and the Tequatl update you mean?
Or high level fractals with the Mist Instabilities? He specifically mentioned Lupi, so maybe something more along the lines of Liadri? Something to test their individual skill. Like solo/duo farming UW or FoW. Or mission running in GW1. Where individuals could challenge themselves and not necessarily feel ‘dragged down’ by having to do it with a group.
I would love something like that here. In GW1 I spent a good amount of time in UW. Still log on and farm a few ectos every now and then too.

I was able to unlock the Fine Dining collection by eating a Plate of Truffle Steak, but it won’t acknowledge the Seared Beef Steak that I ate. Just thought I’d throw this in.
You’ll have to forgive the crudeness of this, I just whipped it up real quick. The image attached is a screen of my map, I was in Divinity’s Reach at the time. The first arrow pointing to the left, indicated by 1, points to total world completion. Including the hearts, poi’s and vistas etc. The second arrow points to zone completion. This is usually what you see when you press M.
Yeah, that’s the one. Thanx.
It’s been a while, but if I remember correctly, there’s a centaur in one of the camps in dry top that sells/exchanges seeds. I don’t remember where or which or any other particulars, but I do remember exchanging seeds when I got the bugged one.
