The only problem, is that you can’t buy 200 gems only. The minimum amount you have to buy is $10 worth of gems.
This is true. It’s a business trick used in order to increase their profits (I presume). So if you wanted to only buy one or two episodes, you would have some gems left over. I suppose you would just have to save them for later, convert them to gold, or spend them on something else. Maybe a bag slot?
People are mostly concerned about how much this will cost in the long run to someone a year from now. Say they were just joining GW2 in the middle of season 3. They would look back and have to pay $50-$60 for season 2 (if they wanted the entire thing) and any they missed in season 3. The fact that you cant buy less than $10 of gems at a time becomes irrelevant at that point.
I think there are 2 very important things to keep in mind thoughout this discussion.
1. The status quo for active players has only improved. In the past we would get content, play it temporarily, and then it would be gone forever. Inaccessible. Now we will be able to go back and replay it any time for free. Active players should rejoice.
2. The implementation of this plan to charge 200 gems ($2.50 USD) for past episodes means that Anet must ensure a quality experience worthy of the price tag. If an episode is poorly made, or contains little content and little satisfaction, then new players will be less likely to purchase it, and Anet will make less money. This directly incentivises Anet to produce good content.
The main concern, really, is new players a year from now. They will be faced with purchase decisions between $40 and $60. Point #2 means that their money will likely be well spent, and as others have postulated, Anet could/would likely make package sales as a discount for whole seasons.
Also, as answered in my other thread, what you are unlocking when you log in or pay 200 gems is for the instanced story content and story rewards. Open world will always be available to everyone, new and old, for free, whether they log in or not.
I just watched this video and they answered my question.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9P6Zmg16eEM#t=666
This is good news!
Mike Zadorojny:
“Yeah, the open world content is available to everyone to play. The journal itself is going to give you access to the instanced, more story focused content because I think particularly for telling the story there are really great opportunities within the instance to do character development and progress the plot and so forth and certainly the open world plays in to that, but we really think that the best places to have those character moments and to progress the story is in the instances, and so that is really what you’re going to be gaining access to when you are getting the episode unlocked. The open world content is available for everyone in the open world.”
Thank you, Kate, for bringing that up! And thank you, Mike, for the answer!
(edited by Xenon.4537)
Now that is a perspective I like. Quality content is best incentivised when the creator has to make it and then sell it. For Anet to make money off of this, each episode has to be good enough for new players to purchase it. It has to be good enough for old players (who got it for free) to say “Yeah, that episode was good, you should buy it.” If old players don’t recommend an episode, then Anet makes no money off of it.
And even if the content isn’t so sterling, nothing will sell those old, missed episodes like the words “I want that” out of a reward.
Theoretical example: If the watchwork node were a Living Story reward from a given episode, and you were real keen on getting it, would 200 gems and a little effort be worth a permanent addition to your home instance? I’d say yes.
Eh I wouldn’t call that watchwork node worth it, personally, but I get the idea. Now the fused gauntlets I would definitely pay to get access, although they already gave me that for free in this latest release (thank you so much Anet!). If the reward is a cool looking backpiece, glove, helmet, w/e skin I’d probably go for it. The jet pack skin… I can dream…
The wording isn’t really that clear.
“This means you can play the open world content and the story content (if you’ve unlocked that episode) anytime you want, on every character you ever make on your account!”
Depending on how you read this, it could mean that you have to have the episode unlocked in order to access the open world part of it.
Official clarification would be nice. I don’t see any answers to anything in the questions/feedback thread. One wonders why Anet labels it a questions thread if they aren’t going to provide any answers.
The contents need to be good and rewarding, if the entire season added up to be around 50-60$ it has to be “expansion” type contents. If it’s the same quality as living story 1 then it’s not worth it. LS1 is just bad and boring no offense. There need to be new areas, new classes, whole set of new skills, new pvp mode, and new pvp maps.
And that is that. If ANet doesn’t delivery quality content then no one will buy it. New players will likely ask seasoned players and they’d give them a value judgement on the content. So this motivates ANet to produce quality content.
Also I’m hoping they add season together into a discounted bundle, they’d be silly not to.
This is true only if the new maps, dungeons, classes, races, etc are all locked inside those episodes. Will I have to pay 200 gems to unlock the next fractal path if I miss it? I posted another thread asking this, but no official response yet.
Another way to look at it is this: Many people have repeatedly said Anet’s main focus is on the gem store items that come with each release, because that’s where they get their money.
Now that focus will be on the story too. They have a financial incentive to make the story good. They’ll want new and returning players to be told “OMG you have to get the release where….”
From f2p, to p2w, now p2w and p2p.
Sad.
When was it ever p2w?
Unless by “p2w” you mean Pay To Warrior Quaggan Backpack Set.
If someone buys the game after the end of living story 2, they’d have to pay to unlock living story 2.
If I buy lets say Lord of the Rings Online today, I have to pay to unlock a kitten-ton of expansions. How is this different?
Are you kidding?
Because for someone who logged in during that 2 week span…they got it for free! Have fun being a new player and having to buy:
- base game
- S1
- S2
- S#
Each season is ~$60…
And how is this different to WoW/LotR/GW1 exactly? If I joined GW1 after EotN hits, I gotta buy Nightfall, Factions, and EotN to experience everything the game has to offer.
I’m not saying I like it, but it’s basically the same as any other game, and I don’t see what you want to happen. Do you want them to charge everyone for it do it’s fair on new players?
I think they expected the game to be 100% free when you buy the base game, including all future content. The thing is Anet never said all future content would be free. It’s actually very generous that they give it for free to active players.
I just hope that people consider all the facts and all relevant data before uninstalling and going on a rampage.
Neeeeever gonna happen. Simply due to basic human instinct – we are naturally adverse to change and both fear and hate the unknown.
As for money creep, I don’t think so (Zudet mentioned it). Assuming LS2 is of significant size, had they stuffed it in a box and sold is as an ‘expension’ rather than labeling it ‘Living Story’ that topic would never have come up. Fear mongering is all that is.
I think people are just really afraid like you said. They hate being nickle and dimed. I hate it too. I would rather they have boxed up the entire thing like you said, and just pay my $50-60 bucks or w/e it is. That’s how I was raised on games, so that’s what makes sense to me. I don’t like the idea of money creep, but if I look at exactly what this journal is, I can’t say I’m against it because I log in all the time and even if I went on vacation $2.50 is nothing for me to pick up what I missed.
I think new players 1+ years from now are really the ones being screwed by this, but who’s to say Anet won’t add past episodes to the Digital Deluxe package? I would be surprised if they didn’t. I guess you could say I have mixed feelings.
I think SAB should be a permanent add on to the open world!
well I think everyone thinks that
![]()
I would hope that after world 4 its out of its ‘beta’ stage, or whatever excuse they’re using to take it away, that it becomes permanent, either in Rata Sum, the journal, or as a ‘console’ in your home instance.
See that’s what I want to see; a nifty little “home edition” console of SAB. Someone suggested that at the first SAB release. It’s brilliant.
I agree as well Xenon. I don’t understand the uproar here. We all don’t need to panic. No one, I repeat, no one, HAS to buy anything to win anything. Relax and eat a cookie.
I understand the uproar, actually. People always have knee-jerk reactions to even the smallest changes, and this is a pretty huge announcement. I just hope that people consider all the facts and all relevant data before uninstalling and going on a rampage.
This is really no different from someone trying to pick up any other MMO. If you want to play WoW right now for example, you have to purchase all of the previous expansions, even though all of the content from past expansions is dead. The difference here is that in GW2 its just a story with a knick knack reward at the end (mini pet or backpiece skin). It’s not like you are locked out of reaching max level or wearing exotics because you didn’t pay for a past episode.
The “money creep” as someone put it in another thread is disturbing none the less. We have to draw the line somewhere, but where?
I have a question to Anet about these episodes. Will new dungeons, pvp maps, wvw maps, or zones be locked inside of Living World Episodes? If for example you add a new dungeon path like Aether Path, or a new fractal path, a new zone like Southsun, or a new pvp map like Temple of the Silent Storm, will I have to pay 200 gems to unlock it if I miss it? These were all added as part of, or concurrently with past Living World releases.
I think this is probably the most important consideration to clear up in regards to today’s news.
Forgive me if this has been already answered but I am sort of in a confused/panic state regarding this new content release. I understand the fact we must log in during the first 2 weeks of its release to get it free; however, it is mentioned that otherwise, you would have to “pay” for season 1 or something.
My question is if a friend of mine was to join like later in this year on December, would he/she have to pay a fee just to enjoy the original personal storyline or is it just the new content coming July have to be paid for?
He would have to pay for the content leading up to whenever he joined the game. That’s if he wants the rewards, which will most likely be mini-pets and backpiece skins. He doesn’t have to pay a dime to play with you otherwise.
People seem to think that in order to access the game itself, they have to purchase every single episode up to the current one, which simply isn’t true.
200 gems is $2.50 USD. To all the people assuming LS1 will be $100+ upon release, it will actually be about $62.50 when counting all releases and subtracting the festival ones which don’t count because they are always temporary. And again, it’s reasonable to assume Anet will make those free (or at least part of a cheaper package) since they came before any of this journal business was invented.
I’m sorry Anet, but I can’t afford your game anymore.
I agree. It is totally unfair to expect me to log into a game once every 2 weeks, assuming I care about the story or the game.
You can’t be bothered to double click an icon on your desktop, enter a password, wait 1 minute, then alt+f4? There are 20160 minutes in 2 weeks. I think you can set one of them aside to log in and out of the game. This is really only a problem for people who purchase the game 1+ years from now.
I felt the need to post this topic as a neutral ground for clear-headed discussion. There are other threads where tempers and knee-jerk reactions are quickly getting out of control. This is not a post for or against the payment of 200 gems for past episodes This is a post calling for level-headed discussion.
So the Living Story will now come to us in permanently unlockable, permanently replayable episodes. You unlock them for free if you log in during that particular release. Otherwise you have to pay 200 gems to unlock past episodes you missed.
200 gems equates to $2.50 USD. A year’s worth of episodes on a bi-weekly schedule would cost at most $65 USD. This is assuming a Living World episode is released every 2 weeks without break for 52 weeks (26 releases). We know that Anet takes breaks and festival activities don’t count towards this because they are temporary, yet take up the same slots as Living World releases. Realistically a year’s worth of episodes will be significantly less than $65 USD.
On top of this, the stories delivered through each episode will no doubt find their way on to the internet. If someone wanted the backstory, they could find it for free. The only thing you would 100% have to pay your 200 gems for would be access to the rewards. Rewards thus far have been mini-pets, backpiece skins, and special ore nodes. Hardly required content. Hardly pay-to-win. If you want them, you can either get access to them for free by being there on time, or forking over two-and-a-half bucks to support the game.
Or you could tell the friend to look up the story on the wiki if they really want to know. If they want the reward from old living stories, they’d have to pay with gems.
Like I said, horrible marketing.
“Hey friend come play gw2 with me. But you’ll either have to spend a lot of money to be updated on the story or read all this stuff”.
He will go play something else. Nobody who isn’t already invested in GW2 will care to buy or read about the past chapters. It will prevent new players from joining
^ what he said. This is really a bad move for Anet. $10 for every contents that new players missed. I know the journal start at season 2 but eventually they will add season1. That is like more than $100+ waste to catchup all of the season1 stuff!
It’s not $10. It’s 200 gems which is $2.50.
When did they start charging gems for living world?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-story-journal/?utm_source=client
“Past episodes will be available for purchase for 200 gems. (Don’t forget you can earn gold and purchase gems to unlock the episode for your account)”
So basically, if you want to invite a friend to GW2 a year from now, he’ll have to spend a lot of money to get updated on the living world
I just saw that. The OP should probably have a link to it to avoid further confusion.
To be clear, 200 gems costs $2.50 USD. Assuming a biweekly release schedule, and ignoring festivals (which are temporary and free and take up a LS time slot) 1 year of missed patches would cost about $65 USD. This is all assuming each and every single one of those patches is 100% absolutely required in order to understand the story (keep in mind we have a wiki, youtube, and the internet through which the story could be found for free). So really the question is does your friend feel obligated to pay $65 for access to the rewards for playing all those episodes?
Since LS rewards have always been mini pets, backpiece skins, and the like… I’ll remain skeptical for now whether this is truly the tragedy everyone is making it out to be.
When did they start charging gems for living world?
The dirty little secret about the gem store is that Anet wants your real money. They can’t put real food on their real tables with your imaginary gold.
Some of those don’t even look close to legit… Like the tanning wrack… wtf would that be doing on your back? And the ones that are just shelves with potions? It’s like a medicine cabinet on your back.
“Is gw2 trying to lose players?”
I’m guessing thats rhetorical, but they are without a doubt. Excluding China, the numbers are going down. Facts or facts.
All games lose players over time asymptotically. It is to be expected. The way they get the number of players to spike back up is by putting the game on sale and releasing new content. What I’m saying is it’s not necessarily a bad thing that GW2 is losing players. It’s only natural. It gains some players back every time there’s a sale, and it will gain significant numbers if they ever release an expansion.
I think it comes down to playstyle. Warrior is much more mobile, while the Necro relies a lot on CC and deathshroud to mitigate damage. Necros can’t really run away, so they have to force their enemy to run. Warrior would probably be easier for you to master, but Necro can be just as powerful in the right hands, and it makes you feel kitten when you dominate someone with a slurry of conditions and fear.
Very nice diagram, thank you Miroe for that. And is that true there will be a new race available?
New races and classes are probably on the way but I have no idea what they will be like.
The most likely thing is Tengu as a playable race, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon.
New classes are highly unlikely, at least within the next 2+ years. Anet have said they will sooner work on adding new weapons and utility skills to existing classes before making a whole new class.
From what I’ve seen the most common professions are (highest-lowest):
Warrior-Guardian-Mesmer-Ranger-Elementalist-Thief-Necromancer-Engineer
This is pretty much what I feel from personal observation. At least in PvE.
In PvP its more like:
Thief-Engineer-Warrior-Mesmer-Guardian-Necromancer-Elementalist-Ranger
My advice is for PvP pick what you are best and most comfortable with regardless of others. For PvE, pick what you enjoy most minus Ranger and Necro. Rangers are meh, and Necros don’t bring any useful combo fields or useful group utilities.
Character size is most important for pvp. Norn and Charr have VERY overt tells. People can more easily see when you are using certain skills because you are bigger and swing your arms wider. Asura is where it’s at. It’s much harder to distinguish their tells.
Otherwise size doesn’t matter. The actual hitboxes are the same.
So am i correct to assume, that you HAVE to be on some kind of VOIP, to be able to even keep up with the commander?
In a game that doesn´t have that feature built in? Feels kind of wrong to me
Games that have built in voip: the voip usually sucks. What happens is you hear every random idiot mouth breathing in to their mic. Every dog barking. Every 12 year old who wont stop running his mouth like verbal diarrhea. Every teenager listening to their rap or dubstep too loud. Every peasant with a laptop mic that sounds like Satan feeding a chalk board in to a wood chipper. You end up spending inordinate amounts of time searching for these culprits and muting them, while listening to everyone else complain about the noise.
No… None of that please. 3rd party voip is fine with me.
P.S. I used to be a console pleb. I remember when private party chat came out for Xbox Live. Suddenly no one ever talked in-game anymore. Everyone was in private chat. So even when people had the option for in-game voice, they chose to separate themselves into private instances of voip, which is effectively the same as using a 3rd party client. Again, it allows you to avoid the horrible cacophony of random people, avoid stupid verbal abuse from idiots who want to compare kitten, and you even have the benefit of chatting with friends who aren’t playing with you.
(edited by Xenon.4537)
@ Trice
I’ve seen this a lot as well. For every elitist zerker jar-head, there’s a lazy “play how I want” selfish little kitten who wants to set his autoattack, tab out to check facebook, and tab back in to collect his rewards.
@ Lanfear on districts:
Districts would mostly solve the problem of organized guilds/groups setting up for Teq or Wurm on their own terms. I’m in [Att] and we often have to do silly things like unrep the guild, join Bloodtide Coast, and look around to see if the map is packed. If it is, we rejoin the map. It’s like playing RNG for an empty map. Once someone finds a relatively empty map, we rerep the guild and start ferrying people in.
With districts we could simply say in gchat “Okay guys, lets all go to Bloodtide district 27 because its showing only 10 people there right now.” And bam, our whole guild jumps in there because there’s plenty of room and no need to ferry.
Now once “district 27” is filled with [Att] (and the resulting randoms who follow), then people would need to ferry. That’s where a proper queuing system comes in. We need one like the one we have for WvW. I’m no programmer, but how hard could it be to adapt the WvW queue for PvE maps?
I think the devs are well aware people want SAB to return. We just have to be patient… My guess is end of summer as another “back to school” release.
I wonder if the devs have tried giving bosses counter-CC skills instead of defiant. Stability and dodges are how players avoid CC in pvp. Stunbreaks too. Consider that in pvp these skills are (i think) balanced on a 1 to 1 ratio, meaning 1 player CCing 1 player is equally countered by 1 player countering 1 player’s CC (by dodging it, stunbreaking it, or using stability). This is done by meticulously adjusting durations and cooldowns of the CC skills and the counter-CC skills. In pve, what if a boss had counter-CC skills balanced at a 5 to 1 (or 1 to 5?) ratio, meaning his skills have 5x durations and/or 1/5th the cooldowns (to account for 5 players in the dungeon). This would further introduce counterplay through boon stripping the stability and baiting his stunbreaks.
Well, I don’t like the dueling idea.
But If they add an “auto-block dueling invites” feature, it’s fine for me.
It’s pretty annoying when you’re minding your own bussiness and people keep spamming duel invites.
“No, I don’t want to duel my lvl 5 newby char against your lvl 80 clad in epics char.”PD: QD will become Goldshire 2.0. Mark my words. Then we only gonna need the ERPs to come. =P
You know I played maybe 3-5k hours of WoW over the years and In that time I’ve had maybe 10 strangers ever request to duel me, and none of them spammed it or stalked me or anything abusive like that. From my experience I find it extremely hard to understand the aversion to dueling in this thread under the notion that it will be so rampantly abused.
Granted, I never spent 6 hours a day idling in Goldshire. I did other things. Maybe Goldshire was just a hot spot for dueling? Why hang out in a dueling hot spot if you don’t want to receive duel requests? I’m sure if I spent 6 hours a day naked in front of Starbucks, I would eventually get spotted and arrested. It’s kind of a statistical inevitability.
Human starter zone, doy!!
Of course, once you’re out of Goldshire it’s become just a rare annoyance. And by the way, I said that I was fine with it as long their give us a feature that allow us to autodecline duels. Why are you against that feature?
I never said I was against that feature. The only thing I’ve been trying to say is I find it hard to believe people rampantly stalk, spam, and abuse others with duel requests. They make it sound like this is how every waking moment of their gaming experience goes.
Also, if you can come up with a good way to make toughness and vitality the best way to go in a game. Tell me, i never found one.
One way is to revert back to the Trinity System. Here, toughness and vitality is crucial for the tank, which is crucial for the DPS to do his job.
But we don’t want that do we?
So, there could be other options even given GW2 system. For example, maybe part of killing a dungeon boss is that for a set period of time, the boss is invulnerable, and that everyone in the room is dealt with some condition damage they cannot evade. If the whole party is wiped, the boss will go back to full health and party cannot proceed any further. So there must be at least one person with enough vitality to withstand it.
Its a very ugly idea, I know. But what I’m saying is that, there are ways in which combat-centric gameplay can be designed so that build diversity becomes crucial in high level end game, EVEN IF in the end its still DPS that does the final job.
That is a pretty ugly idea. I would rather they add a secondary effect to toughness and vitality which increases the chances of taking aggro by a % per point. Say someone with over 3k toughness would have a 75% higher chance of gaining boss aggro within a certain range.
Edit: but before any of that, I would rather they overhaul the defiant system to allow CC builds to be more viable. The idea of control, support, damage in GW2 suggests that someone could effectively tank by keeping the boss locked down with stuns and immobilize. But of course that’s not really possible by a single person right now.
(edited by Xenon.4537)
you can see it most obviously in dungeon runs. most groups want that person in zerker gear who can provide the better dps, but can still offer reflects or protection or w/e adequately. they are going to take that person over someone in anything else because the support that person offers is sufficient.
Pray tell what kind of build this is on what profession. Im interested now. It seems like an OMNI GODLIKE build to bring to spvp.
He’s referring to something like a zerker guard who can still apply reflect wall, aegis, and protection. Or a zerk mesmer who can perma reflect (assuming the kitten warden doesn’t bug out). These builds can be great in dungeons. Spvp is a different story.
Hmmm… are those efficient builds when it comes to dps? They sound very karate-middle to me.
I’m pretty sure phantasm mesmer with reflects is the top mesmer build for dungeons right now… If you have a better build for dungeons, I’m all ears.
For anyone who ever argues for a subscription, just BUY 800 gems a month.
This.
If you want $15 for extra gold, just gem to gold 1200 gems. Bam. Done.
And this.

Dragonites are too common. I get a stack or 2 per day. What they need to do is buff Empyreals, because I’m lacking in those.
Really? I get like 3 stacks of empyreals a day doing dungeons. Anet set it up that way to get people to play a variety of content. That’s the whole point.
Inb4 “but I play how I want merhhh!!!”
Nerfing zerker won’t solve any problems. They need to revamp encounters to make better use of the other game mechanics. Defiant needs an overhaul because it renders CC builds useless. Mob attack patterns need an overhaul because right now, dodging is the only mitigation you need. Mob attacks need to be designed in such a way that defensive stats are utilized to mitigate them. For example, make mobs have a fast “autoattack” of some sort. Healing power with small chained heals and regen would mitigate those. some sort of aggro mechanics tied to toughness/vitality should be considered.
Cryhards… It’s never been easier to get gold in this game. Back at launch you were frickin loaded if you had 50g to rub together. Now I earn over 100 a week playing only a couple hours a day.
This is a terrible idea, no matter how “simple” or “elegant” you think it is. Besides is it really that hard to get gold in this game? I’ve gotten over 100 in the last week from playing 3 hours a day pugging some dungeon paths… Also the devs have said many times GW2 will never have a subscription.
This option, no matter how optional, does not exist in some magic bubble. It would directly affect the economy and behoove all players to pay for it or else be left in the dust. Take ascended gear for example. It’s totally optional, but how many people complain that they feel required to have it because it’s mathematically better?
And another thing. The logic of paying 15 dollars a month to get increased gold drops, rather than simply paying 15 dollars for gems and converting them to gold is clearly flawed.
…The only way something significant will change is if players stop buying gems…
Aaaand we’re right back to the whole point of this thread.
Map quee!!!!
compreension!
No but really, I like your ideas. +1
The thing to take away from this is that the devs need to make the game mechanics more consistent instead of creating random, arbitrary exceptions to rules. If reflects are going to be a thing, then these bosses need to work around them instead of ignoring them outright. Otherwise they should just remove reflection as a mechanic and replace it with something else.
I second this!
I actually like the backpacks, but I’m just silly…

Visual Wood… In the morning….
lol, I heard that deep sexy voice in my head… it freaked me out a little.
:)
I’m sad actually. Matt sounds like he is quitting for Wowstar, and I suspect WP is in denial about his enjoyment of GW2 at this point. He got himself stat-capped and is going so far out of his way to find things to do it’s ridiculous.
Well, Matt is all about playing multiple games so I suspect he will just divide his time for a bit. I think WP is pretty deeply invested in Tyria so he will probably be a round for awhile. Plus the vast majority of their Youtube fan base surround GW2.
All of that may change with Season 2 though. If Anet starts it off right and just blows us away I’m sure the excitement will carry them far. However, if Anet just lays another egg like Season 1… well Wildstar does have housing and mounts.
I wouldn’t play wowstar even if it were the only game in existence. If Anet “lays another egg” with season 2, I’ll probably just go back to single player games.
I would love to see mounts for only one reason -
Mounted Combat WvW
Yes, let’s double up the number of character models to render in zergs. Brilliant! /sarcasm
Not a bug. It’s there for the only reason to prevent you from selling different items at a faster rate.
Just another annoying restriction. It’s been there since release.Nope, a dev recently confirmed it is a bug and that they are fixing it “soonish.” I’ll edit with source in a minute.
Edit: Here you go.
http://i.imgur.com/9WzwG45.jpg
Unfortunately, “soonish” could mean anything from next week to next year. The devs are infamous for delaying and forgetting about these things.
You have to be really naive to believe this is a bug which has been in the game for almost two years. Especially in one of the most fine tuned aspects. The TP.
They gain nothing from fixing this one. Actually it is detrimental to them since it will allow the players to manipulate all their goods faster. Some people can’t be bothered to put less expensive stuff in the TP due to that “bug”. And they gold sink it by selling to a vendor.
Just because a dev said it’s a bug doesn’t make it true. It’s a really convenient restriction hid behind the illusion of a bug,
There are still a lot of bugs in the game from release. I think you have to be naive to think 2 years is somehow too long for Anet to leave a bug unfixed. It might take them until GW3 to fix it, but I seriously doubt it is an intended feature.
