Not yet. I haven’t hit 80 yet. I have level 52, 40 and 21 characters. So far so good. I’ll let you know again when I hit max level though.
52 Norn Warrior – 9.5/10. He hits things really really hard. Sometimes he gets in over his head because I whirlwind into a pack of 8 mobs and now they’re all attacking me.
40 Human Elementalist – 8/10. Large learning curve but I think I’m getting the hang of it. More gear dependent than the warrior though.
21 Norn Guardian – 7/10 so far. I like that she can take more damage than my warrior but she really needs more ranged options.
I made a Norn Warrior. It just seemed to fit – big guy running around with a big sword. Also I had a Half-Giant barbarian in Shadowbane.
I’d level the engineer because I think there are less of them than Guardians and Warriors.
I’ll add mine:
- Don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m beautiful! The game is just good looking. From the characters to the environment to the weather to the weapon and armor models. And detailed.
- To boldly go… One of my favorite things to do in new games is explore. I like seeing the sights and (at times) outrunning the mobs that are 20 levels higher than me because I wanted to just look around. Well this game encourages it!
- Everyone into the pool! I like the group events. I don’t like competing against other players for PvE kills or resources. I’ll save that for PvP or WvWvWvWvW. Till then, it’s all good. /fistbump
- By jove, I think they’ve got it! The smaller things: Shared bank. In game mail access always. Collectibles storage and access from crafting stations. Small things that take the tedium out of the game. Each on its own is nice but it all adds up and really makes a difference.
To answer the OP question, yes. But this has been going on for over a decade now. Original UO vets know what I’m talking about.
But, the causal player also represents the VAST majority of a game’s player base.
Well a lot depends on what I’m fighting. Usually I’m using a staff.
Start in Earth:
- Eruption
- Unsteady Earth (usually lands when eruption actually goes off).
- Switch to fire
- Lava Font in front of the melee chars coming at me slowly.
After that it depends on what’s up and health and all that. Most often it’ll be Flame Burst or switch to Air and Lightning Surge / Chain Lightning to finish off what I can.
This is the first time I’ve read the “beta” thread for this game. I’m surprised it took so long for me to see one. ANet must have done a good job. Normally this thread appears in the first few days.
To the OP – really? First MMO?
Norn Warrior – male
Human Elementalist – female
Norn Guardian – female
Next up is probably a Necro. Definitely male. Not sure race yet.
IMO yes it is. My Ele is only 33 and I’m still trying to figure things out. The class has a pretty big learning curve with all the skills but IMO that’s part of the fun. There are times when I just really frustrated because I’ll get in over my head (which isn’t that difficult to do with this class) and it’s a circle-strafe marathon.
I don’t know really.
Right now I’m enjoying myself a lot leveling. I love exploring the world and the group events. I’ll also cut down half the map to get to a ore node or a tree so having those “instanced” per player is a real great idea. I’m in no hurry to get to whatever end game GW2 has. Haven’t really looked into it much.
But, you can only level so much before that will get old and want to do something else. Ask the people over at BioWare about that (see SWToR). That’s where the end game will come in and how long I really stay.
I think WP costs should be toned down. I’ll even take selective toning down for WPs that are close to an active event that you want to go to.
Well my main character is level 45 and has about 2 gold. I have no idea if that’s good or not. I don’t feel broke though.
My highest alt is 33 and has a little under 2 gold.
Because no one wants to weild the Prettygoodsword.
Someone has to do it.. Will Guild Wars 2 beat (be better, have more players etc) Wow?

More subscriptions? Probably not. WoW was the right game at the right time and they’ve doing well to retain as many subs as they have.
More enjoyable / better is subjective. I’m enjoying myself right now and have no desire to return to WoW. 6 months or a year from now? I don’t know. I’m not going to worry about it. Not yet anyway.
I could go back to a “standard” MMO. It’s all about enjoyment. If I enjoy the MMO then sure.
As it turns out I’m enjoying GW2 very much. I haven’t leveled this slowly in an MMO in years – because I’m enjoying what I’m doing right now.
My warrior says something like “for great justice!” a lot when he fights. Or something similar.
Second time I heard it I shouted “someone set us up the bomb!” at my PC. Fortunately no one else was home.
Well this is in the big ol suggestion thread up top but I feel this deserves its own topic.
Please give us the ability to have keybinds on a per character basis. It would be most helpful.
Please allow character-specific keybinds. It would be most helpful for someone like me who uses keybinds extensively.
Sorry if this is in another thread but character specific keybinding is needed badly.
Pretty please.

I know little about what the endgame content contains. I know there’s dungeons and PvP and such. But I’m not really in a hurry to get there – I have 2 chars which are in their low 20s. I must have re-rolled the elementalist maybe 8 times.
Just as long as the end game somehow makes me feel that what I’m doing is helping my character to get “better” in some way then I’m fine with it. Gear, ability points, spells, etc. I like doing things with a bigger objective in mind – not to just do it for he sake of doing it.
This question came to mind reading the endgame content thread.
If my level 80 character goes to do an event where I’m leveled down to 20 (for instance) will the loot I receive be the level of the event I just ran (level 20) or the actual level of my character before being leveled down (80)?
Thanks in advance!
