Why can’t I just kittening farm pods on empty maps? My god, they’re already surrounded by enemies, spaced apart, and somewhat hidden. And on empty maps, that makes things that much harder. C’mon, it’s not like they’re rewarding to get after finishing the meta.

You can farm them on empty maps. The areas where there are high concentrations of them are locked off, but there will be several on each lane for you to find on a map that isn’t even doing the meta.

Should I have just tried to kill the DH again until I figure out how to? DH are really the hardest matchup I’ve had. It just seems like I make one mistake and they trample all over me with two attacks. I just felt defeated because nothing I did seemed to please my group and that toxic necro player.

If the DH was just camping the point and refusing to leave, then you should leave him there. Go help fight at mid instead. With a five on four advantage on the other two points, your team should be able to win. If your team can’t win, then the problem goes beyond just you as a thief.

As for toxic players, some players will just be toxic. Offer them cuddles and that you hope their day gets better. There’s nothing to gain from getting angry at them, and there’s usually no point in asking them for advice because they’re not interested in helping you get better, they just want someone to blame who isn’t themselves.

What you might want to do is figure out ways you can help in a teamfight, for when you can’t go and decap far. Probably the strongest asset Thief can bring now is Impact Strike for quick stomps. Be careful about charging into the middle of a fight, hang out in the periphery and pick your spots, then when the opportunity is there, dart in, stomp someone, and get to safety. While there’s other classes that have various safe stomps, with Distortion or Elixir S or whatever else, Thief is the only class that can actually deliver a quicker stomp now. This is a big help!

MMR Questions for the PVP team

in PvP

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

I’m not the PvP team, but I can say with certainty that ‘personal score’ isn’t a factor in a player’s MMR. It doesn’t matter how many points you decap, where you fight or how you act within a game. It’s impossible for the system to track what a player is doing during the game, and more importantly whether what they’re doing is actually good or not. You earn personal score for channeling Ferocity in Temple of the Silent Storm, but that doesn’t really help your team win.

Now, with that said, I’m pretty sure MMR does take into account how close you come to winning. If you play against an enemy team that’s rated much higher than you, but come close to beating them, your MMR should improve. It’s like how the system last league gave out pips for coming close when against stronger foes. You won’t get the loser pips anymore, but you can still bolster your MMR in a losing cause by putting up a good fight.. whereas going AFK after losing the first teamfight will cause a blowout score and drop your MMR farther than it would drop from a normal loss.

As a warning, you’re going to need 450+ in a crafting skill to actually make the Legendary itself, so while it’s well and good to have other people help you craft the Spiritwood, you’ll want to get your skill up as well. The exact skill needed will depend on the Legendary you’re trying to make. Staff would require Artificer, for example.

Diversifying is cool and all but some of us simply don’t enjoy playing 5 different classes and this only encourages us to play badly on character’s we don’t even like in high ranked divisions.. which is why swapping at the end is hardly cheesing imo

Fortunately, you only have to play three different classes. The requirement for League Professional doesn’t increase above three, even in the Champion and Elite tiers.

Perhaps I am a miserable player in not being able to beat an ele, but I just could not down the fellow. To be fair since he wasn’t guarding point, he was moving a lot and we had a very wide open area. This likely changes dynamics from a battle where you kinda want one foot on point.

So what would you suggest was the horrible mistake.

He said one of you was making a mistake, not that you were. In this case, this bunker Ele was busy fighting you off point at a time when his team was losing and needed his support. They weren’t getting his support that they clearly needed to stage a comeback because he was off fighting a meaningless one on one with you.

You did fine. When you control more points than the other team, there’s nothing wrong with tying up/distracting their players off point. The Ele here was the one who cost his team.

Ranked PVP

Xiahou Mao.9701

Ranked doesn’t care about skill levels, it cares about rankings. Yes, that means that in the first few days when everyone’s ranking is similar (Amber), there will be bloodbaths. But in time, those top players are going to be advancing out of Amber and into Emerald/Sapphire/etc., beyond your reach. You won’t be able to match up against them any longer. If you play while they’re still in your division, there will be some painful games. If you wait a bit and then play, you should wind up with better matchups.

New Matchmaking broken?

in PvP

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

The new system matches people up by their rankings in the league, rather than MMR. That “50% win rate” system doesn’t apply to this league. As a result, this first day or two is going to be a bloodbath.

But after that day or two, the real killer players are going to be long gone from Amber, and even Emerald, their wins carrying them up the league ladder. The players remaining in Amber are going to be generally weaker, and the matches will become more competitive as a result. So if you’re struggling now, either you can try to power through it (since losses in Amber really don’t do anything anyway), or you can just wait a day or two for the leagues to settle and for the better players to move up the ladder.

Can someone explain Map rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

It is not displayed in-game nearly as well as it should be, but here’s how it works.

The Map Rewards system is a reward track like PvP Reward Tracks. Each map has eight different tracks, which rotate weekly (Thursday is the rotation day). Earning 200 points on the unseen progress bar gives you a reward, with bigger rewards at 4000 and 8000 points. Each event you complete gives you between 110-120 points towards a reward, meaning that you’ll always get a reward after completing two events, and sometimes get back to back rewards from events due to the overflow.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_bonus_reward

Clicking links on that page will give you the full reward lists for the maps. Map rewards give you a way to concretely progress towards certain goals, like Silver Doubloons or Vials of Powerful Blood.

You can also progress a Map Reward track by doing jumping puzzles or mini-dungeons in zones. You’ll get credit for those once per day per character, with an event popup on reaching the end chest.

You cannot change the stats of accessories, nor has it been announced to be in the plans. That’s not to say it’ll never happen, but I personally doubt it.

Changing the stats of weapons or armour through the Mystic Forge is a complete change, and you’ll lose any Sigils/Runes in the gear when doing so. There is no dropdown menu to change back, you need Legendary gear for that.

Phalanx Armour should come back within the next three months, it was removed in Autumn as part of a ‘seasonal shift’ in the gem store offerings, so Spring would seem like a good time for the next shift.

The early dungeons are pretty easy… with a group of five. They’re not meant to be done solo. And no, the NPCs you get to help don’t count as part of your group. They are not effective combatants.

Getting Ascended gear won’t make a difference in your ability to solo dungeons. The only things that will help will be either a ton of trial and error as you master your class and learn the intricacies, or getting a group of players to do it with you. The game does have an LFG system to find other players, you can use that. Be sure to advertise things like “watching cutscenes” and “casual run” to scare off elitists!

Wow! New Shatterer is fun! I have questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

You can fight Shatterer however you like. I tend to stand under his head and hit it, because it takes more damage than his legs do. You can’t just stand still in one spot anymore, though, as his attacks have no more blind spots (and no more Blind).

To melee him, you’ll need to pay attention to a few things. When he rears back and raises his right arm, he’s casting the spell that turns players into crystals. This can be dodged, use a dodge roll about one second after the arm is fully extended to evade it. If you’re caught in the crystal, others will probably break you free anyway, so it’s not that bad.

If you see a smaller crystal appear on the ground, get away from it. The smaller crystals are lightning rods, and soon after they appear a big AoE circle forms around them, and unavoidable AoE damage will begin to pulse. The damage starts low but increases, to the point where if the attack downs you it will outright kill you on the last pulse. That AoE is a bit bigger than the circle looks, too, so give it some space.

When Shatterer breathes fire, even though the AoE circles will appear in front of it, it is possible to be hit while standing by his head. Just be ready to back off and heal if that happens.

Finally, his stomps will cause lines of crystals to shoot out in certain patterns. Be ready to evade the crystals if they come to you.

Beyond that, all you have to worry about are the adds. Shatterer’s feet will damage you and knock you back if you’re too close to them during or after certain attacks, but by trying to hit his head you should avoid most of that. Just be wary of it when you’re fleeing a lightning rod AoE.

The Ascalon City meta event is on a very, very long timer. I parked a character by the Ascalon City waypoint and Akitten in the corner there, doing other things while listening for event notifications in the background. It took close to three hours for it to trigger.

It’s the zone’s equivalent of a world boss event, without actually being a world boss event, so it’s unscheduled but on a long cooldown. Unless you can get in right after a patch, there’s nothing that can be done besides wait.

Also there’s no guarantee on the coat box even if you do win. It’s like the coat box in Vine Wrath.

You are guaranteed to get a coat box from the T4 night meta.

I managed to get on a good map tonight and we got the T4 night meta. It’s very discouraging at first as we spread out well and I think we had level 5 camps everywhere but the map status was only T2. Killing all the bosses somehow got us to T4 and we even had almost 10 minutes to spare.

Good show!

The canopy bosses are an awfully large portion of the meta progress. Killing all five of them should give you around a level and three quarters, so if you’re partway through T2 when they appear, your map is set.

If you wind up a little bit short after killing the bosses, you can still run supplies, escort soldiers and kill rampaging Mordrem to get the last boost needed. But then, on the flip side, a map that’s defended all its camps well can wind up pushing the progress bar halfway up again in T4, or even farther.

Get it? or do i have to fry an egg to show you how drugs are bad for you?

Maybe I’m missing something, but playing as a thief I’ve never been able to evade an attack, stealth or teleport while pressing 1-1-1-1-1. If you’re experiencing those things while fighting a thief, chances are they’re doing things that don’t involve auto-attacking. Perhaps using another weapon skill that costs initiative, or maybe even using a utility skill. Thieves do have those!

It does seem to defeat the purpose of complaining about thieves winning with auto-attacks, when your excuse for not being able to beat the thief down is that the thief did things that weren’t auto-attacks to survive.

Using taxis is the way to go. That said, you want to have everything set up before night falls, if at all possible. Try to organize your map during the day to complete all the event chains then, as you need to have those chains done to open up all the camps to defend at night. Periodically taxi people advertising attempts at T4 Day/T4 Night as you go. Then as night approaches, try to encourage players to split up among all the camps. If you’ve been able to taxi in other players who want T4 Night, then you’ll have people sharing your goal and they should be willing to split up as needed.

It’s just about finding those like-minded players. If you get enough people who want the rewards for T4, they’ll make it happen. The whole map doesn’t need to be on the same page, but if enough of it is, you’ll be fine.

A couple of years back, around the time that there were several high-profile instances of hacking on other sites/games, Guild Wars 2 forced everyone to change their current passwords to try to ward off a similar event from happening here. People weren’t allowed to keep their original password, and the lists of passwords obtained from the other hacks were likewise barred, to try to encourage people to create a new, unique password that would be safe from outside hacking.

You need to change your password to something different, ideally something that you don’t use anywhere else.

To build on “just dodge through the traps”, the Dash dodge will help you more easily clear the distance of a trap during your dodge because it goes 50% farther. That makes it easier to push through overlapping traps safely.

Bandit’s Defense is something else that can help greatly with them now, after its buff, since you won’t automatically flail out with a kick after your first block. It gives you one and a half seconds to stand inside traps without taking any damage and consider your next move. If you dodge and wind up standing inside a Dragon’s Maw, for example, you can activate the block to stop the damage and application of Slow, and wait out almost half of the duration of the wall around you that holds you in place. Then fifteen seconds later (or 12, when traited), you can do that again.

Clearly, more people need to run Ascalonian Catacombs.

Permanent Stability

in PvP

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

Well, lets try to actually analyze this, then.

A Revenant has two methods to gain Stability. The first and likely more common one in PvP is in the Retribution trait line, wherein a Revenant gains Stability after dodging. This grants two and a half seconds of Stability, while it takes ten seconds to recover the endurance from the dodge roll. Assuming boon duration comes into play from Herald, this might be able to grant the Revenant a stack of Stability that lasts for four seconds.

The second Revenant ability that grants Stability is Inspiring Reinforcement, the road-dropping utility skill in the Jalis legend. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen anyone use this in PvP. Ever. Others can comment if they have. Jalis legend certainly isn’t part of the meta build for either the Power Revenant or Condi Revenant. Regardless, the road pulses one second of Stability while standing on it for five seconds, and has a ten second cooldown. Theoretically, this could combine with the Stability on dodge trait to grant close to constant Stability upkeep, but it would require the Revenant to be standing on the small road area to keep the Stability pulsing, which to me seems to just be begging for a Lava Font from your Staff Elementalist.

There is also a Herald trait that causes them to gain two stacks of Stability any time they gain a stack. This does not actually lengthen the duration of any of their Stability sources, it just lets them ignore one extra CC hit within their duration.

So, unless you’ve somehow found a very dedicated Jalis Revenant who’s stalking you through PvP games, laying down roads and not actually doing anything else useful like pulsing Glint boons, enjoying Mallyx condition immunity or embracing Shiro Quickness, it seems like you’re exaggerating “permanent Stability”.
