The walls might not do a very effective job of blocking progress, but they do count as targets for the enemy Mordrem, which often waste a lot of time attacking them and trying to destroy them. This is particularly true for the vines that spawn a ways away, and might waste their projectile attacks repeatedly on the walls rather than targeting players who are fighting the bigger threats.

Why is everything so unfriendly to melee?

Xiahou Mao.9701

Matriarch/Patriarch/etc, they drop so much lingering burning that it’s excessively difficult to find a clean spot. Worse, they don’t move, so they sit in their fire fields until it’s time to fly away again.

The Legendary Wyverns are able to be meleed with experience, especially as a Daredevil. It’s impossible for the Matriarch or Patriarch to lay down enough fire to fully block out melee. It simply doesn’t last long enough.

The trick is to get right underneath the Wyvern. There’s a red circle at the center of the Wyvern that appears when targeted, get right up and hug that circle. When you see the big critter preparing an attack, just move through the circle to wind up behind it, and the fire breath/claw swipe will miss you harmlessly while you keep meleeing. It can only lay down two big fire fields at once, and they’re cone-shaped, so if it sprays them in opposite directions, then there’s still room for you to move between them to the Wyvern’s side to keep meleeing. The only way there can be too much fire at the Matriarch event is if you’re failing to CC and thus have the extra lines to deal with, or the last part of the fight where random extra Wyverns will be spraying lines around. And even then, the Matriarch will occasionally use her dash attack to charge a player far away, which removes her from whatever fire fields she’s near and lets you start over with a clean slate.

The Patriarch doesn’t have extra fire from taking off or from bonus Wyverns, so it’s impossible for the whole ground in melee range against it to be covered in fire. It does, however, have the wing buffet attack, which you have to be aware of as a melee. To avoid it, you need to pull out to max melee range at its rear, standing underneath it isn’t enough. If there’s fire at max melee range at its rear, then simply get out of range entirely for the five seconds it flaps its wings, then get back in underneath it where it’s perfectly safe and you can’t get hit once you master your technique.

It’s not a true ‘lag spike’ as in an internet connection problem, but it’s a delay on your computer with it trying to load the entire underground section once it comes into view that causes frames to be skipped. I’m not sure why the underground isn’t loaded once you enter the main courtyard, given that it’s just below that, but I assume it’s for performance reasons.

The problem hasn’t always existed for me, so it might have been caused by a chance in a patch. Maybe the April one?

The posters don’t make the statement that caring about history is an evil thing. The statement is that evil forces can use such sentiments as nationalism and xenophobia to try to push their agenda.

The posters are written to try to undermine Queen Jennah and her reign, so the treaty with the Charr is a legitimate target for them to take aim at, as is the centaur war, the out of control Watchwork Knights, and the pirates of Lion’s Arch.

Arenanet has no interest in bringing the prices down. The higher price makes Gems > Gold more attractive, and that’s where they get their money from.

In addition to the items people want to buy, a reason for this is gold being more accessible. Everyone gets two gold in coin now for finishing their daily achievements, while dungeons are giving more gold again. Clearly, a lot of people are turning this influx of gold into gems via the exchange.

Bosses are unbalanced in HoT maps

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Xiahou Mao.9701

There are multiple bosses to encourage the playerbase to split up and fight them all at once, rather than running a train to kill each in succession. In order to obtain the best rewards (Maximum Security Level/T4, the Bladed Chest) players will need to do spread out and do that.

The loot for the HoT zones is quite high, but it does help to be able to actually kill the bosses. If you were fighting the Patriarch, you need to be faster with using the eggs. If you were fighting the Matriarch, your group needs to be able to take down her break bar more effectively, so you avoid the strafing attack and get bonus damage for beating on her while she’s down. If your group is having troubles breaking the bar, you should try to communicate what’s needed to the other players there, they might not understand what kind of opportunity they’re passing up.

I would guess that it’s a blind that makes it fail. If they engage you with D/P 3 while you’re standing on the trap, you’ll be blinded by the attack and that will cause the trap to immediately miss, so fast that you might not even notice you got blinded.

What it definitely isn’t is blocking. Traps are unblockable, so if a thief enters your Trip Wire while using Bandit’s Defense, they’re going to fall down. That makes Trip Wire useful against things like Shelter and Shield Stance as well…

Your issue seems to be that you’re listening to other people rather than drawing your own conclusions. You can get by playing basically whatever you want in this game, the only place where it might cause issues is in raids and perhaps high-level fractals. So saying things like “rangers are only good at healing” or “mesmers have the worst DPS” is largely irrelevant. Rangers are fine at open world play in whatever DPS setup you want, Mesmers can do enough damage to kill things in solo play, and even in raid situations where Mesmers might have the lowest personal DPS, they’re still must-have classes due to the boons they output, a position many other classes wish they could be in.

So go try Mesmer out, go try Ranger out. Play a Necromancer and ignore the minion skills. You ignore your Spirit Weapon skills on your Guardian, right? You didn’t decide not to play it because of its pets. Try out Thief and see what it’s like to have absolute freedom in your rotations with no weapon skill cooldowns.

Don’t let other people dictate what you’d have fun with. Don’t fall into the “I have to play a Metabattle build” trap. Until you’re going on raids, you can play what you want and do just fine.

The wings are for everyone, they just might take longer if you’re less skilled.

You said earlier that your effort is wasted if you can’t get it done in the next season. That’s untrue. There were people who suspected that would be the case, but Arenanet devs confirmed that you’ll still be able to complete The Ascension even next year. Ticket prices for ‘last year’s’ items will likely increase, but from the sounds of it you’ve already earned enough tickets to buy all of those items now. So you can still get the Ascension, even if your only progress is going Amber > Emerald for the next three seasons.

So stop beating yourself up over it, and please please stop getting mad at other players over your own issues. Your anger management issues are likely impairing your ability to play as much as your issues with your hand. Take a deep breath, take a break, smile, congratulate the teams that beat you, and go in with a different attitude rather than crying for nerfs and demanding that systems be overhauled to suit your specific needs. You’ll get your wings, even if it takes you longer than you thought you have.

This is what i call being off and having a joke at times, specially when people are trying so hard but they never saw the exact thing a lot of other people are seeing. It seems at this point i was mistaken and there are 2 kinds of thieves playing this build, mindless spammers that you have faced and thieves how to know this guild perfectly wich you havent faced yet.

But that’s the thing, there is no real way to play the build ‘perfectly’. Death Blossom always has a period of vulnerability at the end after its evade, there’s no way to remove that. There’s also no way this build can inflict more than some gradual Bleeds and Poison, with the occasional spike of Confusion from Steal. The condition pressure pales next to what a Warrior or Necromancer can put out, so if you have enough condi cleanse to deal with those classes, you’ll easily be able to handle this, and if you don’t have enough condi cleanse then you’re having a lot of issues no matter what you fight.

When your primary offensive maneuver is something that locks you into a telegraphed animation for close to one second, that’s generally not a good thing.

I play different classes and builds for pvp and i always play together with a friend or 2 who are diamond level. I dont really care about true ranking myself, because the game is way to gimmicky to be taken seriously, hence my first post that i simply report it.
I dont need help or anything, i just report it.
I will tell you now slowly….. i… just…. report…. it….
So was this fuss all needed?

If you’re losing so badly to a weak, gimmicky build that you feel compelled to report it as broken, lie about its capabilities and say it’s capable of wiping out an entire team of players solo, then yes, you do need help.

Can you let me know what class you play? Then I can suggest ways for that class to deal with it and you can get the help you need.

That’s why I’m trying to type slowly, so that you can understand me. I want to help you, and understanding what you’re fighting is the first step towards being helped.

Death Blossom spam will generate a lot of bleeds. Thieves can only apply Torment by a certain trait on interrupts (which means no Bountiful Theft), by a Venom (no one uses Venoms), or by the Bounding Lotus dodge which applies a single stack per use. Poison can be applied by dagger attacks (like Death Blossom) if using the Dagger Master trait in Deadly Arts. Thieves can only access Confusion via a Grandmaster Trickery trait and they give up Sleight of Hand to do that, meaning their Steal won’t interrupt (and thus can’t trigger Torment).

None of these things are ranged, given the scenario you’re painting. Steal (w/Confusion) can be used at range and will bring the thief in to melee, but it’s on a 25 second cooldown without Sleight of Hand. So you’re left with stacks of Poison and Bleeding being the concerns.

Maybe I should be asking, what class is it that you’re playing when you’re trying to fight this? With the two classes I’ve been playing so far this season, Thief and Warrior, I can easily defeat this kind of Thief without needing to change my build at all, just by using my knowledge of how it works. My Thief can time a burst easily enough and cleanse whatever it inflicts with Escapist’s Absolution, while my Warrior can likewise do the same with a condi burst using Skull Grinder and then just stand there and do nothing while he dies to the condis (or, even better, use Shield Stance to block everything and give myself Might so he dies faster). So what are you playing?

I don’t know about this whole RL quest you say you’re taking, either. It doesn’t seem to be taking up enough of your time that you can’t post on the forum..

Alright, I’m going to type slowly so that you can understand me.

What… ranged… attacks… is… he… using… with… Dagger… Dagger… Staff… as… his… weapon… sets…?

You just said yourself that you tested this with your friend. So you know the answer. Please enlighten me! I mean, if it’s the Bounding Lotus dodge, the range is quite small and it applies a single stack of Bleeding and Torment, so I’d hardly count that as a ‘ranged attack’ or ‘massive condis’.

Joke is we did and we both used it against each other and no way to beat it, not with the timing either even if we had it perfect of let him stand a bit longer.

It’s already been said earlier in the topic that this build can’t kill itself, because Escapist’s Absolution will nullify all the incoming condis on both sides. So using it against each other doesn’t accomplish anything. Play what you normally play against it instead. Then the timing matters, because you’ll actually be able to inflict damage once you capitalize instead of putting on this build’s dinky few bleeds that will be cleansed once the CC expires.

Also you dont know me, still again you judge me. I am an openminded guy, but when i see cheese its obviously cheese, specially when there is only 1 way to do it and you need to specialize against this wich makes you weak against everything else, but you can COUNTER THIS BUILD. that is actually a big joke.
Sorry i cant take you seriously now anymore lol.

You don’t need to specialize, you just need to time your abilities. You shouldn’t need to change anything out, the things that will help you are condition removal (which you should already be running) and a crowd control skill or two (ditto). No one has even mentioned the strongest counter to this yet, which is Retaliation, because that is something that most people don’t currently run and it’s silly to swap it in just for this weak, niche build.

I don’t really care if you take me seriously, because you’re talking about a single thief being able to take out entire teams alone, and about the ‘massive ranged attacks’ that a thief using two sets of melee weapons gets that prevents you from kiting. I’m just trying to help you become better at the game. I can’t force you to listen to me any more than I can force you to tell the truth in your posts.

also i aint crying about it

It sounds like you’re crying about it.

he could beat an entire team on his own. (and i mean the set up of an trap dragonhunter, aoe condi bleed burns pam fest warrior etc etc, so yeah he barely got dmg)

The Death Blossom spamming build should never beat entire teams. Once again, you’re just exaggerating things to try to make yourself feel better after losing to a weak build.

If it was that good, you’d see people using it at the highest levels of play. I don’t see people using it at the highest levels of play, I barely see it in use at normal levels of play. That’s not because it “hasn’t caught on yet”, it’s because it’s simply not good.

So yeah i know how to pvp and if i see something broken, i report it like i saw it today, even my other mate was laughing about how broken this is and he is almost legendary level in pvp in this game.

Do you trust your “almost legendary” friend, or the people playing the game in the Pro League to compete for actual money? Your “almost legendary” friend seems to think this is broken, but no top players are actually using it. Your friend is probably just humouring you because he doesn’t want you to feel bad for losing to a weak build.

He is cleansing without doing anything wich means it can even have something to do with that there are simply just some animation cancels going on that an thief may have.

Explain these animation cancels, please, and how they can cleanse conditions without doing anything.

But it also seems that barely anybody is seeing them wich when they are hidden for most people, but once you see one in a game it rofl stomp even the highest of players lol like i have seen before.

People have seen this. Several people fooled around with it when Heart of Thorns launched and Thief was in a weak spot in PvP. It can catch people off-guard sometimes, but once they learn what it does, it’s easy to shut down. There are some builds that are ill-suited to fight it, but given that its damage comes entirely from bleed applications, anyone with a modicum of condition cleanses can survive it.

See, if you’re really the ‘good PvP player’ you claim to be, your reaction to this would be to take your friend who’s “beating entire teams on his own” with it and enter a custom game, face him one on one, and learn what you can do and can’t do against it. You can learn the timing on CCs, figure out exactly how it is he’s cleansing conditions magically, and improve your game in the process. You can learn how to beat this. And hey, there are people here trying to help you. I’m giving you advice, too! But when your reaction to receiving advice is to shout it down, to claim things are broken, and to continue to display ignorance of the build being played (despite allegedly having friends who use it themselves), that is not the sign of a good PvP player. That’s the sign of a whiner who feels entitled to win every game, and who complains on seeing an oddball build that’s not the typical Metabattle one (and for good reason) which gets the upper hand on him.

Get your friend, play against him, practice what we’ve said in this topic. You’ll learn that the build really isn’t that strong, and that’s why you rarely see it. It’s not overpowered. It’s annoying and gimmicky, yes, but it’s easily beaten, if you put in half the effort to learning to play against it as you have been writing angry posts about it.

This is something that gets really close to it(found it on reddit), but if you have some server latency you are not able to counter him at any way

Shockingly, having lag makes it hard to time things. That applies to all classes and all builds. I can dodge Headbutt on reaction, but someone in Australia probably can’t.

Death Blossom is still incredibly telegraphed, particularly if it’s being spammed over and over. If you can’t react in time to the first one because of lag, use the first one to prepare for the second one and time your attack to hit at the end of it. If you can’t do even that, then your playing conditions simply do not allow for you to successfully PvP, or do anything else that requires somewhat strict timing.

also he is cleaning himself just by jumping in between, so he wasnt afraid fo anything.

I’ll ask again. How is he ‘cleaning himself’? The Escapist’s Absolution trait will cleanse conditions when you successfully evade attacks. Thus, your solution is to not give him any attacks to evade when he has conditions applied. You stop swinging at him and let him die. You claim that he doesn’t need to dodge to cleanse conditions, so I’m asking how he’s doing it. If you can’t tell me what trait or skill he’s using to remove conditions, then it looks like this is going back to “learn to play” territory. If you want this evade thief to die to the conditions you apply, stop granting him the ability to cleanse them through your own actions.

Map “Stow Weapon” to a key on your keyboard. Use it, stand still for a little bit, and watch him die.

Also saying it that it was my own skill of not able to catch it, the one using it say he had an easy time in diamond with it, so are people all that bad or…?

A lot of people are bad, yes. Many people can’t adapt to builds that do different things. Many people panic on seeing they have a single stack of bleed and burn their condition removal early, only to be left unable to do anything when they get ten stacks later. Many people are unaware that against this type of thief, it’s better to not attack in the evade frames and grant them their sustain. Many people are unable to pause and properly time their attacks rather than flailing around aimlessly.

Also i dont like to use ‘cheese’ builds where you press only 1 button, its just to simple…
And this could have accidentally happend after the last patch or anything and/or there is something in that build that alot of people dont know about yet.

This has existed since Heart of Thorns came out. It’s nothing new. You don’t see it too often because it’s just not very good. Playing as a Warrior lets you maintain better condi pressure with condi removal that isn’t dependent on dodging attacks, more HP and toughness, pulsing Stability, Resistance access and lots of CC.

If you’re having trouble dealing with this type of thief, stop and learn about it. You’ll learn how to counter it. Going onto a forum and complaining about “infinite dodges” that each have vulnerability periods at the end, and “ranged attacks” on an entirely melee Dagger-Dagger/Staff build, just makes it look like you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Xiahou Mao.9701

I find it hard to believe all these classes just use aa in raiding I mean seriously? That just doesnt make sense.

To explain in more detail since you didn’t seem to pick it up the first time..

On its own, Vault does more damage than auto-attacks do. The reason thieves auto-attack on raids is because raids typically have Chronomancers on hand who are maintaining 100% uptime Quickness. Quickness does not affect Vault, because Vault has an evade built in, and if Quickness affected it (as it used to affect similar skills) the evade duration would be reduced by 50% due to the faster animation. Thus, due to the constant Quickness uptime, you’re left in a situation where auto-attacks do more damage, as Quickness affects them.

Again, you do need more than Sapphire, because to complete the achievements you need to cross ten total division thresholds. That means that you’ll need to reach at least Ruby one more time.

Given that, there’s nothing to gain from trying to buy progression to Sapphire now. You’ll need to get farther this season and next. Just wait if you’re having trouble now, and get your games in later when more people have been promoted. If you’re worried you won’t have time this season, well, that means you won’t have time to do all the other things the achievements need either…

If you have to deliver the item to Ogden, make sure you don’t have any other deliveries to him pending. There’s an item from the Dreamer V1 collection that you also have to deliver to Ogden, so if you have that collection open and haven’t delivered it yet, it can interfere with Nevermore. Find and deliver the Dreamer item first, and then you’ll be able to deliver the Nevermore item too.

Yes. You are guaranteed to salvage a Reclaimed Metal Plate from a rare Reclaimed weapon, no matter what kit you use. You might still want to use a Master/Mystic kit to get a better Ectoplasm return, but you could just use a Basic if you want.

Yeah, but the skins don’t matter, you can get them from blue and green versions of the weapons easily enough. What you’re after if you want the Reaper GS collection is the Reclaimed Metal Plate, which is a rare salvage from blue/green weapons, but a guaranteed salvage from the yellow/rare ones.

Back when HoT launched, the rare Reclaimed weapons were 8-10 gold on the Trading Post as a result. By now, though, they’re down to around 1 gold each. So rather than wait for the return of the Hero’s Choice Chests, you can just buy the ones you need, salvage them, and commence your collection. That also frees you up to, once the Hero’s Choice Chests return, take the Crowbars/Airship Parts reward from them which will help you get the tokens you need to complete the Machined Greatsword collection.

Well, they’re going to add the box back in once they fix the bug people were abusing.

In the meantime, the price of rare Reclaimed weapons has really plummeted, with the increased acquisition rate they have from the new boxes. To go with that, you now get two gold with each set of daily achievements you finish. You should be able to buy two rare Reclaimed weapons with the money from a single daily, and those are guaranteed to salvage into Reclaimed Metal Plates.

Leveling in WvW?

You should also now get Tomes of Knowledge from ranking up in WvW, once you get past the initial few ranks that only give WXP boosters. You say you got to rank 5, so starting at rank 6 you should get Tomes.

Instant level 80

You can turn on the Content Guide to direct you to Hero Challenges you haven’t yet done. Some will require certain Masteries to be earned, so you might not be able to get them all right away. But with that said, there’s over 200 Hero Points available in the core Tyria regions, so if you have all of those you only need to get five in Heart of Thorns to finish an elite. And even going in without any Tyria Hero Points earned, you can still finish your elite entirely in Heart of Thorns.

The instant level 80 makes no difference in your ability to fill your elite class spec.

You need to go to the new Heart of Thorns zones. Every Hero Challenge in those zones is worth 10 points rather than 1, and there’s about 40 of them to find. As a result, you can easily get the 250 points you need there.

Respawn lore

I think the main reason that the Resurrection Signets and shrines and the like have been forgotten is simply because they’re a lore black hole. Trivializing death makes for clunky lore. At the start of Nightfall’s tutorial, Kormir literally kills you and stands around for a few seconds until a shrine activates and resurrects you. She then talks about how this gives the Sunspears a powerful advantage. How does that start a compelling story when your NPC leader is telling you “Don’t worry about dying, you’ll come back”? Why should we be worried later in the campaign when the Kournans are going to execute the captive Kormir, wouldn’t she just be resurrected? How does one stop a shrine from working? Why didn’t it work on Prince Rurik or Althea or Saidra or whoever else, what makes them inferior to the PCs? Why can’t you use your Resurrection Signet or your Flesh of my Flesh spell on those NPCs? Why is it a big deal with Shiro kills the party in Vizunah Square and you need the Envoys to intervene, when every other time your party would get killed you just resurrect with a small penalty like nothing went wrong?

The only time lore really played into it was with the Bloodstone and its ability to prevent resurrection, but even that wound up being more about the White Mantle powering Soul Batteries rather than ensuring that their massacred Chosen wouldn’t resurrect to bring about the Flameseeker Prophecies. If the White Mantle were so scared of the Chosen that they had to bring hundreds or thousands of people to Bloodstones to ensure they were killed permanently and wouldn’t resurrect, then how could the Charr have succeeded in attacking Ascalon, even with the Searing, knowing that every human struck down by raining fire would simply resurrect at the nearest shrine?

I have to assume that along the way, the lore team decided that making death trivial and seemingly random in its permanence was a bad thing. Without Resurrection Signets or spells in Guild Wars 2, we don’t see people on forums asking “Why can’t we just use X to bring back (Insert Beloved NPC here)”. Gaheron aside, we now have a distinction between when there’s a “Press F to Revive” prompt, showing the ability to resuscitate an unconscious ally, and a body just lying there without a prompt or symbol (besides Press F to Pay Respect), showing a character who’s actually dead. It can’t fix the silliness that surrounded the concept of death in Guild Wars 1, but it at least can provide consistency going forward.

how to get Ball of Dark Energy

Just be sure when you salvage for the dark energy, you use a Black Lion salvage tool. Every once in a while I get some high end gear I can’t use or sell, so I salvage it for mats. Almost every time I get a ball of dark energy, I am using a BL salvage kit.

Just my two cents.

You can’t use a Black Lion kit to salvage for Dark Energy, as it only drops from Ascended gear, and you need the Ascended Salvage Kit from Fractals to salvage Ascended gear.

You’re probably thinking of Globs of Dark Matter, which are a different thing entirely.

So....Linseed Oil?

Mushroom enemies in Heart of Thorns zones now drop sizable amount of Flax when killed, I’ve received four Flax from a single kill. That’s a helpful influx of Flax for Linseed Oil, so if you need it you can go to the Heart of Thorns areas where mushrooms are plentiful and farm there, or participate in events that have mushroom enemies. You can even just make a note to kill the mushrooms you see while travelling.

But I don’t care anymore. I don’t expect anything anymore, it’s become blatantly obvious that this game no longer aligns with my interests.

You’ve been complaining about every release the game’s had for over three years now. Clearly, your interests are aligned with it, because not only are you still here, but you shelled out money for Heart of Thorns despite having spent years deriding every single thing the game has done.

You can’t fool me. I see past your trickery!

How common are SAB weapon boxes?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Xiahou Mao.9701

Xiahou Mao.9701

The weapon boxes are not common. I actually got one from my first end chest in the Festival, but I didn’t get any in the two Super Adventure Box releases before that which I played extensively.

They do not drop only in Tribulation Mode, no.

You completed Volume 1, which gives you the recipes to craft an item with a lot of Spiritwood, The Ravenswood Branch. You need to craft that to unlock the second tier of the precursor crafting.
