It is definitely a bug, but as mentioned above, it’s probably low on the list of priorities to fix.
The one thing I ask people to do is NOT kill people before the timer officially starts. Doing this bugs them out so they don’t get their rewards at the end. By all means, run to the campfire and start grabbing supplies, but DON’T attack other people. (I usually grab the Pistol, but don’t attack unless I see someone aiming for me first.) If you are aware of the bug and continue to kill people anyway, you can be reported for griefing because you are deliberately denying other players their reward at the end.
Confirmed. Urmaug’s Secret and Troll’s End both did not count towards Daily JP Discoverer, but Sharkmaw did.
The new golem finisher is hilarious. XD If I ever buy a finisher for my Asura, he’s SO getting this one.
They should put that back. Nobody ever visits that Champ Karka anymore. It must be so lonely.
To stop people from just parking alts at the Vein, make it so that the Vein is buried underneath some Karka webbing that is only removed when the Champ Karka dies. (Also, give the Champ Karka a ground chest on death to make it more appealing. That quaggan’s TOUGH.)
^ Not a Commander, but out of curiosity, what sort of supply numbers do you need for various WvW activities? (e.g. Assaulting a Tower, Assaulting a Keep, Assaulting Stonemist Castle)
I do always feel bad when I go into some bear’s cave to harvest that sweet, sweet metal nodes in there, and then all the cubs go hostile at the same time as mama bear and I have to defend myself.
Bag slots are not worth it as they only help 1 character. Bank slots perhaps, but if you use your bank slots sparingly you can probably wait for the next sales. Furthermore, I use my personal guild deep cave for non-account bound stuff, saving me gold. Collection Expander? If you need them, it is probably long overdue for you to upgrade your collection items to the next tier in the mystic forge.
I’m already maxed out on Guilds, so I can’t create a personal Guild for myself. Besides, I’d find it annoying to have to use multiple guild banks. I’d rather just keep everything in my own personal bank.
I got the Collection Expanders primarily as a way to help stockpile Ingots/Planks etc. for future Ascended Crafting use. Plus, I’m a hoarder. I like seeing big numbers in my bank.
The ability to convert gold to gems is not simply a “nice gesture” on ANet’s part. It is part of an auto inflation control system to get rid of excess gold from the economy and because of that the players who buy gems with gold are also important to ANet because these are the players that provide the reason for others to convert real money into gems then gold. Without these players who convert gold to gems, the value of gems would drop and there would be less incentive for others to buy gems with real money so as to convert them to gold.
Furthermore, allowing players to convert their gold to gems allow people who are more cash-strapped in real life to also buy gem store items, raising the gem-gold exchange rate in favor of gems. Which in turn, fuel the incentive for cash-rich players to convert real money to gems then gold when the exchange rate goes up in favor of gems. So as you can see, players who buy gems with gold do play an important part in this equation.
In summary, people who buy gems with gold are important to maintaining the economy because:
1. Inflation control – They balance out the inflationary effect of cash-rich players who bought gems with real money for the purpose of exchanging them for gold.
2. Increases demand for gems to cash-rich players who buy gems with real money – They do this by increasing the exchange rate of gems to gold in favor of gems.
3. Allow cash-poor players to also participate in the gem store which is good for the game.
Oh, I agree that the current system works very well, but I don’t think the economy would be harmed that much if players couldn’t convert gold to gems. John Smith has never provided us with figures, but I suspect the taxes collected from gem conversion transactions is a drop in the ocean compared with the taxes collected from standard BLTC transactions; there’s simply WAY more of the latter. (I suspect that the vast majority of gems bought with cash are simply spent immediately on the gem store and not converted to gold.) ANet could simply compensate by tacking on an additional 10 – 15% tax paid by the buyer when purchasing items.
Inflation control also presumes that if gold → gems was removed, gems → gold would remain. If it weren’t possible to convert gold → gems, I suspect they would also remove gems → gold, lest it strengthen the impression that one can “P2W”.
The last point, however, I’ll grant in your favour. I’ve always resisted game mechanics which divide players into different classes. I do not really want to see a game where players with cash have access to things that players without cash simply cannot obtain. That’s actually exactly why I do not support power creep in tools or other gem store purchases; it would end up creating different “classes” of players, those who can afford the good stuff, and those that can’t.
Also, don’t neglect to type some instructions into Map/Team/Say chat for the militia who end up tagging along with you. Not everybody will be on voice comms, and just writing a few small instructions like “Drain supply before moving on”, or “Everybody grab the Devourer buff. We’re hitting Red Keep next”, or “This is a diversionary attack for the guys in EB. This is NOT a full assault. Be ready to retreat on my word.” can go a long way to making your squad more effective.
While I’m not a fan of selling runs, I have to agree with the above. If I did buy a run, I expect to sit back and do nothing. “That’s what I paid you for!”
I think we may have reached the equilibrium points where most players feel that 6-7g for 100 gems is an acceptable price when selling gems. Thus, unless something BIG comes along to push demand for gems even higher, we’re not likely to see the exchange rate hit the 10g mark anytime soon.
I just use the targeting circle for Meteor Shower for that JP.
A new class would bring a new set of skills and traits to learn and master. A new race would bring new personal storylines and newbie zones. At this point in time since we have already been receiving new zones and stories through the living story…
Not necessarily. The release of a new race could be tied into a continuation of the existing Personal Story via an expansion (or expansion-sized content pack). Here’s an example:
Tengu Playable Race:
1. Tengu characters start off in the Dominion of Winds, next to Caledon Forest. Their initial starting zone is just west of LA, past the Shuttered Gate. Adventuring in this zone and their first stage of the Personal Story will take them up to levels 15 – 20.
2. At the same time, Canthan ships are spotted on the horizon. It seems that the Canthan Emperor has decided to expand his empire and is launching a full scale invasion of Tyria. The Living Story chapter takes place in and around Lion’s Arch, and other coastal zones where players must fight off initial beachheads by Canthan troops (some of which bear suspicious hallmarks of Dragon corruption). Tengu characters can take part in this, where they are scaled up to level 80 (or to the appropriate level for the zone).
3. After the initial invasion is repulsed, players decide to take the fight back to Cantha due to the presence of Dragon-corrupted troops, which the Pact wants to investigate. Here, the Personal Stories of old and Tengu characters merge. The rest of the story takes place on Cantha (scaled down appropriately for lower-level maps), with players landing on the Canthan mainland, launching raids against Canthan forts, forging alliances with rebel forces or non-human slaves, and ultimately assault the Emperor in the very heart of Kaineng City.
4. It then turns out that the Emperor had somehow managed to tap into the powers of the hitherto unknown 5th Elder Dragon (Bubbles), which had left the Deep Ocean and settled in the Jade Sea due to another leyline nexus beneath the Harvest Temple (and the lingering magical energy left by Shiro’s death scream). However, the process corrupted him into a Dragon Champion. Players must defeat the Emperor, which represents the end of the Canthan expansion Personal Story, but it leaves Bubbles as a persistent threat for the Canthan continent, and a springboard for further Living Storylines.

Bravo, Shriketalon. Bravo.
And here I have to make do with just camping on the GW2 forums instead of working. :P I need more lazy/uncaring bosses!
It’s not that the Soundless disapprove of “destiny” or anything similar. They are mainly comprised of Sylvari who, for one reason or another, cannot handle their non-stop connection to the Dream. They find the flood of emotions or the empathic connection with other Sylvari to be too much to bear, and they want to cut themselves off from it.
Always off, except for when I want them on for RP purposes. After spending so much time tweaking my character’s face, I like being able to see them.
Personally, I don’t mind playing the Personal Story knowing that it took place in the past. Just don’t ruin the immersion of the PS instance by having people calmly talking and shopping in a ruined city filled with Miasma and a giant drill drilling in the background.
I have to digress, sadly. I currently have twice as many Empyreal Fragments as Bloodstone Dust, simply from all of my dungeon activities.
Hehe, it’s kind of cool that you can tell what someone’s playstyle is like just by seeing which Ascended mat they have in abundance.
Anyway, I still think the best solution is a MF recipe that lets us convert a stack of one Ascended mat to 50 of another.
^ Indeed. It actually frees me up to take MORE traits. The slight nerf to TotM isn’t likely to make a huge difference, and the nerf to Vampiric Master might be offset by proper scaling from Healing Power.
The Pact is primarily composed of forces from the 3 Orders. All 3 Orders were also present in combatting Scarlet and saving Lion’s Arch. With the various dragonspawn still out there ravaging the world, the Pact can’t just drop everything and go to fight Scarlet, who as far as anyone knew, didn’t have anything to do with the Elder Dragons. Just because your country is at war doesn’t mean you send the Homeland Defense Force and your police to go fight halfway across the world unless it’s really an all or nothing affair.
It’s going to be especially bad on an Elementalist or Engineer, since they only have one weapon slot.
Which it has since October. But I think we are reaching the point where buyers of gems with cash and selling them for gold are becoming significant enough that it’ll take longer than a few months for the rise in Gems to reach a break even from prices now.
Yeah. The market has not broken through the 7 gold ceiling for many months now, which suggests to me that we’ve reached the conversion equilibrium with regards to people willing to buy gems and convert it to gold.
I had a 5 Necro run through TA the other day. Soooo many minions. Soooo much meatshielding. It was hilarious. XD “Who needs Guardians when we have 5 Flesh Golems?”
The dialogue with Rox is slightly different if you’re a Charr (although the same information is imparted), and the dialogue with Marjory is slightly different if you’re a Human (Logan Thackeray makes a comment through Marjory about how he “knew you back when”).
I briefly experimented with an EU server before moving to Tarnished Coast. I didn’t find the latency between the two to be especially noticeable. The main reason I swapped to NA was because it was more populated during OCE night times; the NA east coasters are getting up, and there are still some night owl west coasters around. Whereas on an EU server, my night times are smack in the middle of the EU day, when most people are either at work or school, resulting in nearly empty maps.
Meh. I prefer being able to run through Obsidian Sanctum alone and unhindered. :P Don’t need any more griefers camping it.
Besides, the rewards would need to be bumped up something crazy to compete with EotM karma trains.
To be fair, that WAS a bit condescending of you, Wanze. You’re emulating JS too much.
@kitsune: The Trading Post is shared globally across the US and EU servers. All items sold or bought by players in those regions are available to anyone else in the same regions; it is not server-specific, as you might find in other MMOs.
That said, the upcoming Chinese GW2 will have its own separate Trading Post region. We will not be able to trade with Chinese players and vice versa.
I’m going to have to rearrange the placement of some of my Bloodlust sigils on my weapons then…
Everybody has different ideas on what constitutes a “good purchase” from the gem store. For me, the unlimited tools were well-worth their price, for the time savings I mentioned above. I also fully kitted out all my characters with bag slots, bank slots, and 5 Collection Expanders. I find minipets and town clothes to be utterly useless, yet to some people they are cherished purchases that they value highly. I also see no need to pay exorbitant prices for the limited edition dyes when you’re barely able to tell the difference between them and a cheaper dye unless you look closely. (Doubly so for other players, if they even bother paying attention to you at all.) The “value” of an item is really divorced from what the price is in gems/gold since it’s so subjective to an individual player.
We also have to keep in mind that the ability for players to convert gold to gems is purely a “nice gesture” on ANet’s part. No doubt they’d make a lot more money if no conversion existed and all gems had to be purchased with cash. I’d go as far to say that they value the players who spent real money on gems a LOT more than those who don’t, since at the end of the day, they’re the ones paying the bills. The value of gem store items should always be looked at from a real cash value rather than the gold value, and with a couple of exceptions (such as the individual armor pieces), the price has not shifted since release.
I’d take more Empyreal Fragments than Dragonite Ore, to be honest.
I used to have the least Dragonite Ore, but it just pours in when you’re doing things like Karka Queen, Temples and EotM karma trains.
True, although it seems that Charr have a naturally higher birth rate than humans do.
And because it uses the male skin which is meant to be for a “male barbarian” aesthetic, it ends up being super revealing.
I… don’t know how to feel about this picture. O.o
So overpaying for small conveniences equals to P2W now? That is just not logical. You pay 90g for the ability to skip 1 loading screen, therefore you are winning? Right…
It depends on how much you value your time. For someone who is cash rich, but time poor, that skipping 1 loading screen, or the time it takes to buy new picks, or having to run from the BLTC to the Bank and back again, the time saved from not doing those things may indeed be worth 90g to them when added up over the course of a year (and if they just converted an hour’s worth of their pay to gems and bought the tool outright).
Furthermore, how is this P2W at such a steep upfront cost? Where is the “win” portion of this argument? How is this considered winning over those who have not bought any of the infinite tools? Or are you saying that gaining that small convenience, for a huge upfront cost, is equivalent to P2W?
Again, I’m not arguing that paying for convenience is P2W. I’m saying that the Watchwork Pick was a possible move TOWARDS P2W. If the majority of the playerbase were OK with slow power creep of gem store items, then we could have expected future tools, and possibly other items, to also come with their own unique benefits, and who knows where that might lead. Unlimited tools that have an increased chance to give double ore from strikes? A Frequent Gater Discount on waypoints? The ability to teleport instantly to a friend’s location, as we saw from the Kongzhong version of GW2?
Moreover, a large part of P2W lies in the perception of other players. For instance, when the Flamekissed armor was released, many, many players were outraged because of the perception that an expensive, hard to get armor was now easily obtainable for gems. To their minds, it was P2W. It didn’t matter that the armor wasn’t the exact same skin, or that they had the exact same opportunity to get the armor.
And to a point, they are right. A large part of “winning” in MMOs is about having the flashiest, most impressive gear to inspire awe, admiration and jealousy from other players. (If that weren’t true, why are Legendaries so popular? Why did you see so many players running around in Obsidian Armor and Chaos Gloves in GW1?)
What’s the projected rate of return in 6 – 12 months in Wanze funds?
Hmm… Perhaps go down one map and do all the centaur events near the Ascalon Settlement in Gendarran Fields then? Same strategy and quick respawning events. Pay a visit to the nearby pirates too for a break.
I visit her every day on my way to the Daily Activity.
Yep. I definitely got the feeling we’ll be paying a visit to Fort Vandal soon.
I did get some special dialogue with Taimi on my Asura back during the Moment’s Peace instance in LA, but nothing since. :/
I think that new races would be much easier to implement than new professions. Yes, you’d have to redesign armor etc. to fit, but most of the races already use existing skeletons (Tengu = Charr, Kodan = Norn etc.), so most of the groundwork is already done. More importantly, new races don’t introduce new balancing work. It’s probably already complicated enough balancing the existing 8 professions without a new one being thrown into the mix.
I have 5 80’s. I make it a point to do everything on them. Map completion, dungeon completion, everything.
I still like my original “leaf” short hair style the best.
But I always support having more options for players.
I’d say that some do, some don’t, but I imagine most would have toes. They actually play more of a role in walking and running than you might think. A Sylvari without toes would have a harder time moving around.
To get back on topic, no, I don’t believe there are any laws forbidding same sex relationships in Kryta. Marjory and Kasmeer certainly don’t seem shy about announcing their relationship to others, and I think they’d be much more circumspect if homosexuality was illegal in Kryta.
Same sex relationships would likely pale beside the topic of cross-species relationships, in any case.
Charr also have the immense benefit of guns and mass production.
It’s probably just RNG, but I’ve noticed that I seem to get much better luck with drops on certain Fractals. (Level 7, and now Level 12.)
Wanze said he tried to control a market once and failed. (Previously unknown sellers kept popping up out of the woodwork to undercut him.) If he couldn’t do it, I certainly wouldn’t risk my money on it.
I still think it’s theoretically possible for a cabal of traders to pool their money and seize control of a niche enough market, but again, the hidden supply in GW2 is VAST, and even if you succeeded, I have a feeling that ANet itself would intervene if players started complaining. The TP is such an integral part of the game that they need to maintain player trust in it. The day that players start going to third party sites instead of using the TP is the day that the GW2 economy collapses.
I’m also baffled by this change, although I’m not 100% sure that’s what the new mechanic is going to be like. It MIGHT be that the stacks remain unless you unequip the weapon with the sigil. I’ll be waiting for the actual update before I cast my verdict, but if the stacks do indeed vanish the moment you weapon swap, then they will be not be worth it since it basically negates the benefit of weapon swapping.
Stacking has the following advantages:
1. It allows everybody to be in close proximity to benefit from things like a Guardian’s Aegis, Might stacks from blasts in fire fields, group healing from blasts in Water fields etc.
2. It bunches up multiple enemies close together, enabling cleave weapons (like swords, greatswords, hammers etc.) to deal their maximum damage output, and also lessen the time it takes to kill all enemies as opposed to tackling them one by one.
3. Certain bosses will not use some skills if everybody is in close proximity to them. A good example is the Spider Queen in Ascalonian Catacombs, who will not use her AoE poison spit if everybody is in melee range. Stacking can therefore serve as a defense against certain enemies.
The downside to stacking is that if the players aren’t good at keeping themselves alive at the same time, one mistake can lead to a lot of people getting downed, and thus a situation where a wipe is highly likely. I have seen PUGs where stacks worked, but only by the skin of their teeth.
The best stacks come when the party composition includes one or more characters who also build damage mitigation into their builds. For example, my Ele uses Glyph of Storms in Earth Attunement to cause mass Blinds. (Even better, it isn’t counted as a field in itself, so the rest of the party can continue to stack Might in fire fields during the initial duration.) After the Sandstorm fades, if we still need more damage mitigation, I drop Radiation Field for non-stop Weakness. (Although this counts as a Poison field, so I save it as my secondary option.) I also throw in Water fields as and when needed, but switch back to Fire or Earth for damage.
Oh no, I’m referring to actual bot gold farming accounts. To bypass surveillance and help cover their tracks, they buy up a variety of obscure, unwanted items, then sell those items on the TP for ridiculously inflated prices that no sane player would buy. The farm account then buys these items and thus funnels the farmed gold to the secondary account in a way that would be very difficult to track.
