Feedback/Questions: Legendaries in Wardrobe

I think that as long as the item in question is Ascended (or Legendary), it will always be account bound and can be freely swapped between characters on your account. Similar to how (before the change locked it down) the Spinal Blades backpiece could be freely swapped between characters on your account even if you’d already put an upgrade into it.

Zaxares.5419

Yeah, the requirements are easier this time around, which is good. Even as a casual WvW player, I’ve already completed 7/10 and I’m about 1/3 complete on the remaining achievements. The one proving to be the most grindy is the Sentries + Yak killer. Towers and Keeps are also a bit of a pain to get since TC at OCX times is usually too busy fighting off determined assaults from BG/JQ than actively capping.

Potentially skins will rise, but not by that much, in my opinion. Those who couldn’t afford the skins before still won’t be able to afford them, and those who wanted them AND had the wealth to get them will already have them. We may see a slight rise in demand from wardrobe completionists, but I expect this increase to be so minor compared to the size of the GW2 market that it will barely make a difference to skin prices.

There are always sellers who get an expensive item and immediately turn around and sell it to whoever is the highest buyer. I’ve gotten many, many things for 1c above the higher buyer, ranging from fast-moving commodities like mats to expensive skins. If you’re willing to be patient and keep over-bidding by 1c, you’ll eventually get what you want.

Sounds very promising! As an Australian who plays on an NA server, some maps can still get rather quiet during my night-times (even though TC is one of the most populated servers).

I do have a question though. How will guild/WvW bonuses be applied on the Megaserver? It would not be fair if players can’t benefit from these if they’re constantly being shunted onto overflow maps due to their main server being too populated. (The ideal solution would be to have guild/WvW bonuses be applied to you no matter which server you’re on, but I’m not sure if the technology can support that.)

Zaxares.5419

As a part-time RPer myself, I understand the RP community’s concerns, although I’m willing to wait and see how this turns out. It sounds as if priority for map space will be given to players in this order:

1. Is this your Home Server?
2. Are your party members in this server?
3. Are your friends/guildies in this server?

As such, RPers probably won’t be too adversely affected since most of them are already home on TC/Piken anyway. Those that aren’t can guest to the servers, then party up with RPers who are there and hotjoin the server, similar to how organised guilds operate for more difficult World Bosses.

If things really don’t work out, then we can come back and provide our feedback to ANet, who I trust will look at addressing our woes if it’s reasonable to do so.

I really don’t understand why you guys are hoarding absurd amounts of laurels.

I can understand hoarding 100 or so. But 500?

Do you honestly think Anet is going to come out with an item that can be bought with that many laurels?

Most of them probably don’t have that many characters to gear.
It’s not that they’re hoarding them but that they don’t have any use for them.

I do have 5 “mains” that all need gearing, but I’m holding off on buying any Ascended trinkets for now until I see what r500 Jeweler will bring. I’m saving some Laurels for Karmic infusions when I do finally get Ascended amulets, but otherwise I slowly purchase some Heavy Crafting Bags as and when I remember to do so (typically when Laurel Merchant is on the daily).

Megaservers

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Yes, the others above are correct. You still have a “home server”, which is required for determining your region (NA or EU), and which server you play on for WvW.

What the Megaservers do is similar to EotM. Instead of giving each home server its own instanced map, what it will do is create only one map at a time whenever it’s too full for more players, and players will be sorted into these maps based on their party/guild/home server connections.

The one thing I’m not fully clear on yet is how guild/WvW bonuses will work with the Megaserver. It would be really annoying if you kept on getting put into “overflows” and can’t get your server bonuses.

Obsidian Sanctum JP Etiquette

Zaxares.5419

Sorry but no its not. An achievement for completely a puzzle that is set in a Group of achievement focused around fighting and winning a PVP setting. Just like the rest of the achievements. They are focused on WvW which is PvP.

It has nothing to do with the skill of those players. But what grinds my gears is all the QQ here by the achievement hunters.

They can have their living story, they can have their easy eat this or walk to there achievements. But when they want to take up a space in WvW to kill yacks, or try to do this jumping puzzle or what not they need to realize that the other side will want to kill them.

Of course. When I go yak hunting or camp capping, I fully expect any enemy players I run across to attack me if they catch me in the act. I’m doing something which is detrimental to their score/server; it’s only right for them to attempt to stop me, and if I get killed, I only have myself to blame for not being skilled enough to either win the fight or escape in time.

But it’s a different story in Obsidian Sanctum. Nothing you do there has any real impact on the rest of WvW. We’re not “taking up space”, as you said yourself. It is players who are here to do a specific kind of activity, similar to those who come to Sanctum to do duelling or GvG.

I don’t think of myself as a bad guy. I will be the first person to run to the aid of someone getting killed in PvE. But when someone steps into a PvP environment they have to be able to defend themselves or sneak though. I don’t care which. But don’t expect other players to make it easy for them. And any notion of Honor was left behind the moment they logged into the Video Game world.

It isn’t greifing. It isn’t being mean. What it is, is the way the game was intended to be played.

If you read my earlier posts, I advocate all players in Obsidian Sanctum to be on the alert too. Not every player you meet in there is going to be friendly, and you need to be ready to defend yourself if need be.

But combat in OS is not really the prime reason most of the players are there for. Fights can be found much more easily in the Arena or anywhere else in WvW. Why is it that so many attackers in OS only attack from spots where they can get cheap kills like knocking people off cliffs, or where the odds are heavily stacked in their favour? That tells me that they’re not really interested in fighting; they just want easy kills for loot, or they just enjoy the knowledge that they’re annoying someone else.

Again, there’s nothing “wrong” with attacking other players in Obsidian Sanctum as it’s a PvP zone, but examine your motivations for doing so. Just because something is allowed doesn’t always mean it’s the right thing to do.

That is all I have to say on the matter. Peace.

I won’t be coming back here, I got a season to win.

Good luck in your match-ups, even if you never see this. (And for those who may be wondering why I still replied to this anyway, people who write posts saying they’re not coming back usually do end up coming back. Or secretly lurk anyway. )

WvW Spring Tournament 2014 Achievements

in WvW

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Territorial Terrorizer:

You must receive credit for a “Repel the enemy attackers!” event in WvW, which can occur in any static defense location like a Camp, Generator, Tower etc., WITHOUT losing control of the structure to the enemy. Getting credit can be tricky; in my experience you must kill at least an enemy or two while within the radius of the event (be inside the defensive structure).

However, I’ve discovered a much easier method to get credit for this. Find a defensive structure that’s under siege (from catapults, trebuchets etc.), then go and repair a wall/gate that’s damaged. Just plugging 2 or more supply into repairs will give you credit for the defense event once it completes (provided, of course, the enemy doesn’t capture the structure). You can easily farm the requirements for this achievement in structures like your BL’s primary garrison that is getting trebbed or tagged by enemy servers, but have no intention of actually attacking. Stonemist Castle is also a good candidate provided your server intends to hang onto it for a while. Get some supply, repair one tick on a wall, wait two minutes. Repeat.

The Keep is the Thing

Pretty simple, really. Just be within the capture circle when your server captures a Keep. You may have better luck capping Keeps in EotM, since players rarely bother to upgrade Keeps there and don’t defend them anywhere near as ferociously.

Who do you think put PvP in to a jumping puzzle? Who do you think set up the Achievement to run a PvP jumping puzzle to get a PvP achievement?

Achievement hunters need to realize not ever achievement will be as simple as eating 25 pieces of food or mining 10 times. Sometimes your gonna have to actually… do something.

The achievement is really for completing the puzzle. Getting attacked by other players doesn’t really have anything to do with it. Do you think that the player who couldn’t get the achievement due to people spawn camping/fall griefing in Obsidian Sanctum is a worse player than the player who DID get the achievement because they were lucky enough to get a Mesmer port to the end, or who just happens to play at off-hours so the place is always dead empty when they do the JP?

Yes, Obsidian Sanctum is a PvP map, which is why I’m not calling for bans/suspensions on the people who get their giggles attacking others in there. But I do think it’s poor sportsmanship, and perhaps something ANet should look at addressing. (If ANet really wanted an “no holds barred, every man for himself” MMO, then they wouldn’t have put in things like “no kill stealing”, “no node stealing”, and they’d have left the Matchup Forum here. The fact that they did all those tells me they want a better calibre of player for their game, which I approve of.)

By the way, to those who still need the achievement; 5 days on and the Sanctum is already mostly empty at off-hours even for the BG/JQ/TC match-up. Give it another week and I bet the place will be even more deserted. You’ve got plenty of time to get the achievement done.

New Tip:

This is probably common knowledge to other Fractals veterans, but I’ll post this for the benefit of newer players. In the Uncategorized (harpy) Fractal, during the portion with the energy bars falling down the slope, you can actually dodge through/block the bars. This allows professions with long-lasting blocks to easily complete the run by dodging twice through the first two bars, and then activating their block skill (Shield Stance etc.) for the last portion.

+1 to Ben’s post.

However, I disagree slightly with the people who are claiming that the World 2 length increase and difficulty was a good thing. I feel that it took away from the whimsical, fun approach that World 1 brought, and that in turn turned off many players. World 1 was something you could complete within 15 mins if you were good, and even bad parties could complete it within an hour as long as you had one good player who could run ahead and unlock checkpoints/shortcuts for the less skilled players.

In World 2, you could expect to spend upwards of 2 hours in SAB, especially if you were achievement hunting. There were many more “all players must be present” gates, and combined with the difficulty spikes it just meant that players kept on failing and got more and more frustrated. It’s quite telling that World 1 was quite easy to find groups for; in World 2, everybody just went in solo. That’s a crying shame, because SAB is so much more fun in groups. However, going in as a group makes SAB harder and longer to complete. It’s counter-intuitive to a MMO!

Finally, there were also the technical issues of lag/desyncing screwing up jumps, and the awful possibility that a disconnect meant that the last 3 hours you’ve spent in World 2 Trib Mode are now wasted. If SAB World 3 is to remain at the same length and difficulty as World 2, then a solution has to be found to address these issues.

Soule has done some awesome work, but on the whole I was actually largely disappointed with his work on the GW2 soundtrack. There were only a couple of tracks that really resonated with me; most of the “epic music” I find myself enjoying actually came from GW1.

Leif and Maclaime don’t have the breadth of experience Soule has, but I think they’ve done admirably. Sunny Glade and the Marionette Battle Music are two of my all-time favourite tracks in GW2, and both were not Soule’s work.

Yeah, I think Healix is right. They capped it so they don’t have to keep pumping out new AP rewards ad infinitum.

For me personally I don’t mind the limit since it means once I hit 10k (at 5.9k now) I can ease off on trying to do as many Dailies as possible per day. Unfortunately it also screws over newer players since it means they likely won’t ever be able to get to the maximum AP rewards if they joined late.

PvP is not meant to be equal. If someone doesn’t like what is happening to him(ganking, farming) must stop doing the puzzle and go do it when there are less people. When you are PvP enabled there is no such thing as etiquette.Everything can happen to you.’’Reasonable’’?WTF are you talking about.PvP is never reasonable neither fair. It’s kill or be killed.Nothing more nothing less

There’s competition and there’s “just being a jerk”. If you don’t think etiquette and respecting other players matters, go into the Arena and start messing up other people’s duels or GvG. See how they react to you. (And remember that even ANet reprimanded their own staff member when he complained that GvG’ers were “ruining his game mode” and started kicking them out.)

If your retort is that people in the Arena are obviously there for duelling/GvG and not for open PvP, then how is that different from the players who are just there to complete the JP for their achievement? They are here for a completely different experience to what you want to enforce on them. Attacking them or shoving them off cliffs when they are non-hostile to you is like those guys who keep blasting skill #1 on the Horn in your ear when you’re at the Bank or BLTC, or who just keep spamming your chat window with /surprised emotes. You just want to annoy other players.

Ultimately though, I think the fault lies with ANet for not including a solution that lets people who just want to do the JP for the achievement get through without any trouble from other players. They should have put an NPC at the start of the JP that gives you the Determined buff so you’re completely invulnerable to other players, but also disables all your skills.

Honestly, I think that’s alright. The second time you see a magician perform a magnificent feat of prestidigitation, it isn’t going to dazzle you like the first time and you might see through the illusion. The fourth time you watch a film, you may start drifting off and musing about the background effects or watching the extras for bloopers.

If the first time they tell the story is absolutely fantastic, I would consider that a victory. It could be even better if it remained amazing, but that is icing on an otherwise wonderful chocolate cookie cake.

Yes, but keep in mind that for a lot of players, their “first time” is going to be zoning into a map where people are yelling out that “X Champ is up”, “Where’s Peter??”, “Can some1 show me the heirlooms?” etc. etc. It’s a bit hard to get properly swept up in a story when there’s masses of players around.

I still think that having important story bits being played out in instances is the right way to go, but those instances shouldn’t be reliant on having a zerg win beforehand, like how the Tower of Nightmares and the Scarlet’s End instance were done.

If I recall correctly, there’s only one unnamed Sylvari Firstborn (out of 13 that exist), but making your character that mystery Firstborn just smacks of arrogance to me. And what happens if ANet should one day name that Firstborn and use them in a Living Story? Then your character would effectively be ruined.

It’s much safer to make them a Secondborn, where no express limit on their number was announced.
