They also work on Krait, don’t they? (Due to a weird flag that marks all Krait as belonging to the Toxic Alliance.)
I’d say it’s just RNG. PRAISE RNGesus!
I actually have a feeling it will tie into the whole “Sylvari belong to Mordremoth” thing. All players are temporarily transformed into Sylvari and randomly start seeing strange hallucinations and ominous phrases.
On the other hand, consider that all that farming is ALSO boosting supply of basic, fine and rare mats, which helps make it cheaper for players to obtain the rare skins and items they want. (In fact, the decline of Silk prices in recent months is almost directly tied to Silverwastes throwing out blue/green items like confetti. Remember all those players complaining about how expensive Damask was? Well, ANet DID listen. This is their solution!) This might even be an intentional move by ANet, considering that HoT will introduce Precursor scavenger hunts, and thus a lot more demand for T6 mats for Legendaries.
Damask prices have not changed, because ALL cloth is still ridiculous to get. Anet have not listened at all.
Also, you can get ascended chests anywhere an ascended crafting mat can drop.
That’s untrue. Looking at the price for Damask, it’s actually fallen from almost 20g per bolt back in late September to its current price of 13.5g. This is matched by a similar fall in Silk prices over the same time period from 16 silver to 6 silver, which again is most likely from the oodles and oodles of blue/green drops we get in Silverwastes.
Prices for other cloth types have remained more or less the same, because the amount of lesser cloth we get through the Bandit chests is insufficient to keep up with demand. More than likely, the occasional price spikes we got is due to Silk falling to a low enough threshold that more players decided to try and go for Ascended armor.
I expect that the “silly Legendaries” like Moot and Quip will get “serious” alternatives in HoT, while the “serious Legendaries” like Bolt or Frostfang will get “silly” alternatives.
We probably WILL see instances of this in the game with regards to anti-Sylvari discrimination (maybe even race riots and pogroms). However, I imagine that any “internment camp” will be relegated to simply a lot of Sylvari returning to the Grove, where the protection of the Pale Tree is at its strongest.
No concrete information about it yet, but yes, I would expect new weapon and armor skins with HoT. I also expect there to be new runes/sigils (at the very least, a “Superior Rune of the Revenant” set.)
Revenant the final nail in Ritualists coffin?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Zaxares.5419
Yeah, Ritualists as we know them are definitely not coming, IMO. Their mechanics of ash pots + spirits was embodied in the Engineer’s bundles and turrets, while spirit weapons were, lorewise, given to the Guardian.
The Revenant appears to be a combination Ritualist+Dervish that wears heavy armor.
Their core stance since GW1 is that a player should actually DO the content to get the rewards
giggle.
Probably some GW1 casual…
I thought it was funny since their stance doesn’t really reflect reality. I mean sure. People are present and get their rewards but for most of it I wouldn’t really qualify it as doing.
Obviously something’s been lost in translation. I don’t get what you guys are trying to say.
But in GW1, ANet constantly tried to stop things like Droknar runs (why do you think they put in map gates in Factions and Nightfall?) and speedclears by making things harder, adding in new enemies with abilities to break the meta running builds etc. It’s just that players kept finding new ways to get around the limitations, and they couldn’t crack down TOO kitten them without making it all but unplayable for the average player.
By the time EotN came out, GW2 was basically already in production and I think ANet just threw their hands up at that point and decided it wasn’t worth the effort anymore. That’s why the various dungeon runs there went unnerfed, although they did still take steps to fix the more egregious examples (like the easy way to beat Duncan the Black).
memoies are what make us who we are – ghosts are often explained to be residual memory left over – strong emotions usually tied to them
sylvari memories are stored in the dream so their ‘souls’ become part of the dream – that and the fact that their entire race is only 25 years old so there havent been that much time for ghosts to appear
That’s the real life “theory” behind ghosts though. Ghosts in fantasy settings are usually the actual souls/spirits of the deceased, who are either unable or unwilling to move on to the after life. The exception may be “lesser” Foefire ghosts, who seem to be basically renacting the last few hours of their life over and over, and may possibly be magical “echoes” of a living person rather than a true ghost.
I do grant that it’s possible that Sylvari “ghosts” simply return to the Dream, however.
Agreed that the undead swimming right through walls/floors/ceilings is annoying, but it is still manageable if you take it slow and kill every single Risen you encounter along the way. I often see people die there because they try and rush through, aggroing every single enemy and bringing them into a massive death ball at the end.
It looks like my Charr is doing an overhand chop to the head that mysteriously results in my opponent being crippled, so yeah, it looks “strange” in that regard.
Probably unnecessary. Between Boosters, Tomes and Scrolls of Experience, you can get levels pretty quickly. I’ve already got a stack of Tomes, and I know other players have even more waiting in their Banks.
No, your WvW siege masteries do not affect the siege weapons in Silverwastes (or anywhere else in PvE).
It’s a shame, because I think they should!
Sometimes it’s not the guy’s fault though. There’s been many situations where I was forced to pop my Stability earlier in the fight and thus didn’t have it available when it came to stomping time. Or you were already very low on health and by keeping your distance, you could instead kill your opponent with normal attacks, whereas if you’d tried to stomp, you’d have been downed too and then the Warrior/Ranger wins the downed fight due to their skills. (Nothing’s more humiliating than having downed a Warrior, you go down, then the Warrior Vengeances up and stomps you.)
Yes, this sort of stuff happens fairly frequently in Unranked. However, I wouldn’t take it to heart. It’s rare that a win or loss comes down purely to one mistake (and if does, usually the match is extremely close). More than likely your teammates are just looking for somebody to blame, and it usually comes down on the classes that are regarded as being “mediocre”.
Make sure that the targeting circle is green before you fire. That indicates a valid target area. If it’s red, the location is either too far or too close.
I’d like it if the new map got something like EotM’s supercannon, but one that can be fired in any direction. To balance it, ammo for the cannon would probably need to be hard to acquire, requiring an escort of a special dolyak from a nearby lab or two.
Fair enough. I acknowledge that an increasing skill plateau has been occurring, just as it did back in GW1 when Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North came out. I was just trying to provide advice and tips on how to rise to meet the new challenge. Grouping up for these instances can also make them a lot easier in some cases.
I fully expect an “Acolyte of Lyssa” collection to become available one day.
I also expect to see the following collections:
- Vigil collection (unlock all Vigil weapons and armor)
- Priory collection (unlock all Priory weapons and armor)
- Whispers collection (unlock all Whispers weapons and armor)
- Dredge weapon collection
- Lionguard weapon collection
- Pirate weapon collection
- Orrian weapon collection
- Kryta weapon collection (collect all Krytan, Aureate and Ceremonial weapon skins)
- Maguuma weapon collection (collect all Glyphic, Verdant and Tribal weapon skins)
- Shiverpeaks weapon collection (collect all Shiverpeaks, Norn and Etched weapon skins)
- Ascalon weapon collection (collect all Steam, Flame and Legionnaire weapon skins)
- Cultural weapon collection (collect all T3 Cultural weapon skins. This will set you back almost 5.5 million karma, incidentally!)
- Destroyer weapon collection (collect all Primordus weapon skins)

I’d like to see Griffons (new family) and Basilisks (Drake family) as new Ranger pets.
My point was that many of the encounters are only difficult due to inexperience. Once you know what’s coming, and how to beat the encounter, they usually become quite simple. It’s similar to the King Toad fight in SAB World 1, for example. Josh Foreman even included a point on his post saying, “King Toad is too hard! What do I do?”, where he advises players to stand back and just observe him for a while to learn his pattern. Once you’ve fought him a few times, you can probably beat King Toad without taking a single hit.
So, while a lot of these fights may seem tough or tedious on the first go, don’t give up. Just step back a bit and take a look at it from a bigger perspective, and you’ll probably get an “Ohhhh, THAT’S what I’m supposed to do” moment.
Ok , i know hundreds of thousands of people get map completion…but wvw can be a little tricky especially if your world cycles between two colors for weeks or even months on end. I am on my second char for map completion the first one went like a dream and took about 3 days for the wvw bit but my second is stuck on green/blue and i need 1 vista and 1 poi in E. B. which is inside a well defended fort. Numerous times i have camped out nearby but end up well battered…eventually, and then start again after way pointing back to the begining of my safe area. What i propose is that each char be allowed 600 seconds non combative access to wvw per week and while in wvw they could be seen by players as a yellow dot and their map chat disabled. Also non combats would be able to go through any color gate.
once each char has got all of wvw then the option would no longer be available. On the wvw entrance we could have a tick box for non combative. cmon devs this would work and with a little tweaking would be spy proofSo i just go into non combat mode, go into an enemy tower or keep and wait until the buff runs out, then i kill all the siege inside.
Sound foolproof.
There is a relatively simple solution for this. When you’re in non-combat mode, you’re invisible to all enemies, but all other enemies are also invisible to you, making it impossible to scout enemy movements.
When the buff runs out/you exit the transformation, you are instantly teleported back to your server’s safe zone, so you can’t use it to get into restricted areas.
But in any case, I still prefer my solution, which is to split WvW and PvE map completion. Completing either one grants 1 Gift of Exploration, so you still end up with two per character.
I do think it’s likely that the new Warrior spec is a “Dragoon” type, which combines rifles/pistols with heavy armor. (Would also explain how Rytlock was previously able to wield sword/pistol as a Warrior.)
+1 to the suggestion for merging Shield Mastery and Missile Deflection too.
As others have said, you don’t NEED it in the slightest. That said, it IS rather fun to play a “Healer” Ele in guild dungeon runs where you can drop Water fields and blast them and see everybody’s health go from almost empty to like 75% in under a second. XD
So, go ahead and make a set if you like for those fun runs. (I have one! Clerics plus Sup Runes of the Monk + Aquatic Benevolence.) But yeah, I wouldn’t recommend going pure healer for your typical PUG groups.
Engineer seems to have a streak where it goes for almost 5 or 6 days in a row. It’s happened once before. (It prompted me to create an Engineer character purely for this daily.)
Still, it’s not a big deal. There are 4 total PvP dailies, and the non-profession ones are usually extremely easy to complete. Add that to one of the professions you do have, and that’s still an easy daily completion.
I understand your frustration, Thunderbird, but I think you gravely underestimate just how much gold is being pumped into the GW2 economy every single day. If that 15% TP tax did not exist, you would see prices climb constantly, at a rate where players would be complaining, “I’m trying to buy X for 10g. I earned 2g today, check the TP and now X is worth 15g?”
Game inflation is a terrible, TERRIBLE thing. It HAS to be kept in check or it will absolutely ruin the game as a whole. Nobody likes the taxes, but they are essential to the game’s health.
I would say Norn, due to their affinity for the spirit world, or Human, due to their prior history of travel through the Mists and because of Ritualists. Charr, Asura and Sylvari aren’t particularly spiritual as a race.
Only one Ascended chest out of 11,800 Champion bags. O.o Just goes to show how rare they are. (Although, I didn’t know they could actually drop from Champ bags! Unless that was from a lucky kill.)
Not an outfit exactly, but I REALLY want to see a full Toxic armor set.
I only found it hard/tricky the first time through. Once you’ve taken the time to study the enemies (click on them. Their descriptions are often quite useful in teaching you how to deal with them), stood back and just watched the boss rotations for a while, and knowing when/where enemies spawn, you can overcome a lot of the challenges by simply bringing the right skills/weapons and standing in the right spot.
I would also prefer it if the chest was static. I don’t really see the point of it moving around; what, is there some clueless Bandit who keeps stashing his loot in a chest, coming back the next morning to find it looted, goes “I’ll find a better hiding place for it!”, repeat ad nauseaum?
Yeah, that’s what I’ve always said. They won’t directly punish players for selling dungeons (because how can you punish players for being good? Unless they used hacks/exploits to do it), but they don’t really like it. Their core stance since GW1 is that a player should actually DO the content to get the rewards, and paying someone to run you through it basically violates that approach. It’s not the “intended way the game was meant to be played”.
Which is why, coupled with their generally lax approach to banning dungeon stealers, it’s pretty obvious that Support has been instructed to treat such offenses as the lowest of priorities. I have nothing but sympathy for those who’ve had their dungeons stolen, but I can at least see why ANet is taking this approach; they want to subtly discourage dungeon running. It’s a sneaky, passive-aggressive method, but there ya go.
Yeah, I’d recommend Guardian or Elementalist for that achievement, with their Invulnerability skills. Ele is probably the safest thanks to Obsidian Flesh (on Focus) coupled with Mist Form.
It’s account wide.
My preference for my “Sylvari are just an enslaved race” theory aside, there is one compelling piece of evidence for the theory that Sylvari are true dragon minions, and that is the fact that we have never, ever seen a Sylvari ghost. It seems that all free-willed creatures have the potential to become ghosts, including animals and even plants (we do see a ghostly Oakheart in Brisban Wildlands as a skill point challenge, although it’s described as being a spirit of nature. Significantly, it is not described as a Druid). Yet in all this time, despite their sentience and despite numerous opportunities and magical accidents, still not a single Sylvari ghost.
I don’t know if this is because, as created minions, Sylvari do not have “souls”, or if because their link to Mordremoth/the Dream prevents them from rising as ghosts, but it is a strong argument for that theory.

I’m very pleased that there is going to be no more level increases or gear tiers. While I still would have preferred if Ascended had never been introduced, like Vayne, I can live with it being the last tier, seeing as how it serves several important purposes in keeping the economy healthy.
We will still be able to “progress” via specialisations and Masteries, although we still need more information on how these will work.
It was probably due to the influx of new players during the massive cut-price sale going out and harvesting in the starter maps, driving the price of green wood down. Some enterprising players then spotted the profit margin between green wood and soft plank, and took advantage of that. Unfortunately, too many people jumped on the bandwagon and now there’s a glut of soft wood with too few buyers.
Yep. I imagine it will be an incredibly grindy, time-consuming journey (at the bare minimum, I expect each Precursor’s collection will be on par with what we did to complete Bioluminescence), but at least there is now a fixed, reliable path players can go down. They won’t be beholden to the gods of RNG anymore.
If the Revenant (and specialisations) are going to be restricted only to players who have purchased HoT, then ANet will need to balance stuff very carefully. Back in GW1, it was more or less essential for top PvP players to own all 3 campaigns + the expansion, for the simple fact that some restricted skills, which were considered crucial to top-tier builds, were only available in some campaigns. If we’re not careful, things like restricted skills and power creep might mean that players who only have the base GW2 game will be at a disadvantage compared to players that have all the expansions.
It’s probably just RNG. One time we had Engineer for like 5 days in a row.
Pugventures are the best. Yes, you sometimes want a fast, efficient run with people who know what they’re doing, but some of the best dungeon experiences I’ve had were with people who were willing to throw together some of the wackiest combinations together and just yell “Let’s do this! LEEEROOOOOY…”
However, the price for that is that you DO sometimes get “that guy” who just keeps on messing up, who obviously has underleveled gear or not enough AR etc. I had one of those runs last night in Fractals 19, where I looked at the clock halfway into the 2nd Fractal and went, “$%^&, we’re already an hour into this??”
Basically, it’s a mixed bag. The lows are lower, but the highs are higher.
Yes! I always wondered why the trait that improves stance durations does not improve Shield STANCE. >.> A 4 second block on it would be awesome.
As Reganov says, pick whichever skin you like better. You will rapidly outlevel your gear in Guild Wars 2, so choose the one you prefer looking at.
Both bows are beautiful, but I’ve always liked the Pirate Crescent for the whole “undead mermaid” thing it’s got going. It’s a very unique look.
Making mobs attack faster would actually also make things harder for the Zerk meta (not something I would object to), since dodging and blocks/Blind help ameliorate damage from big spikes, but their poor health pools means that lots of little “bug bite” attacks that they can’t all dodge would quickly wear them down.
Confusion can actually work wonders against foes that attack rapidly. A lot of Risen in Orr will rapidly murder themselves with Confusion due to their incredibly fast attack rates.
This was a (much hated) change made to the Personal Story back during the NPE (New Player Experience) patch. It completely cut out Chapter 7 except for two missions (“Forging the Pact” and “Battle of Fort Trinity”), which resulted in players missing out on the chance to talk to NPCs like Tonn or Apatia. It’s a great shame because Chapter 7 was one of the most emotional and lore-packed parts of the Personal Story. Parts of Chapter 8 involving the invasion of Orr were also removed.
There are players petitioning for it to make a return, and ANet has said they’re doing something about it, but have not provided further information on what exactly will be done, or when it will be done.
I think we’ve got a pretty good menu of choices as far as stat spreads are concerned now (including two which aren’t currently available outside of special cases, “Captain’s” and “Barbarian”). However, it’s mostly so I can decide whether or not it’s time to take the plunge and upgrade my mains to Ascended gear. I’ve finally accumulated all the materials I need, but I hesitate because they could introduce new stat spreads which are more ideal. (The introduction of Sinister, for example, which is a far better choice for my Necro than the Carrion/Rabid stuff I was originally going to get for her.)
