Yeah, I estimated that would be when r500 Jeweler/Chef would be introduced too. I’m holding off on getting both crafting professions to 400 until that happens since I’m a discovery completionist; no point in wasting ingredients and mats unlocking recipes now that are just going to be reset again.

There are some really good answers and suggestions in this thread. The only thing I can add is that what works for one player may not work for you; for example, TP flipping is undeniably the best way to make BIG bucks (see Wanze’s post. It’s pretty representative of what the biggest TP traders do and earn), but if you hate doing a lot of market research, paying close attention to buying trends, and spending time putting up buy/sell orders every day, then don’t do it. There’s no point in making that much money if you loathe it every step of the way and you’re not having fun. Find a way that’s fun AND profitable for you, then stick to it.

For me, it’s just playing normally (a mixture of open world, dungeons, Fractals and a teeny bit of WvW), carefully saving what I get, and only buying stuff I need when it’s cheap/plentiful. I’m probably rich enough in combined assets now to buy a Legendary if I liquidated it all, but since none of the current Legendaries really suit my aesthetics, I’m just saving it for equipping my characters with Ascended gear one day.

Even though I’m a member of TTS, I agree with the above concerns. Fortunately ANet did say they were aware of the issues surrounding Tequatl and his “accessibility”, so here’s hoping it’ll be addressed during OoM and subsequent updates.

Oh, they did? Last time i saw, they were saying that Tequatl was one of the best designed boss encounters ever. That didn’t sound like they realized how many problems are associated with it. Quite the opposite.

Yes, that was also mentioned in the same interview. Basically, they like it from a technical perspective, with the way the whole event flows together and scales up to remain challenging for large numbers of players.

But later on in that same interview, they also said they recognised that there were “accessibility” issues with Tequatl, and I suspect they mean things like constantly running into overflows, players having to camp for hours in the instance beforehand etc. Tequatl is HARD (and personally I do think his rewards need to be buffed a tad, like perhaps a guaranteed Exotic once per account per day), but I think ANet wants to see groups of people always showing up to fight Teq when he spawns (like the other World Bosses) rather than everybody just camping in specific servers/overflows after reset and then having Teq all but abandoned for the rest of the day afterwards. It basically means that anybody who isn’t in TTS or happens to play at or near reset would never get a decent chance to kill Tequatl, which is what I believe they want to address.

Scarlet is either: A) Luring the dragons from the far corners of Tyria closer to central Tyria, which would be absolutely DEVASTATING for the world as we know it …

Now, it may be that even the Elder Dragons can be effected by Scarlett’s spores, since the spores are a chaos-magical creation. Could Scarlett be attempting to infect a dragon with spores in order to study the physically manifested hallucinations?

Now THIS is another very plausible theory. What if Scarlet is attempting to lure ALL the Elder Dragons to a central location, infect them all with her Hallucinatory Spores, and then have them fight each other while confused? When only one remains, gravely weakened from the battle, that’s when Scarlet steps in with her army, kills it, and becomes the Savior/New Supreme Overlord of Tyria.

… That’s actually a plausible theory, if one were supporting the “Scarlet is really a good guy!” theory. Scarlet knows the other Elder Dragons are coming, thinks she is the only one with the smarts to stop it, gathers the technology to build her own Jaegarbot, uses it to fight the Elder Dragons. She’s just not bothered by pesky things like collateral damage and sentient being rights while going about her plan.

The only loose end is… What do the Hallucination spores have to do with the Scarletbot?

It’s not insider trading. It’s a combination of people knowing r500 Jeweler is coming, that it will more than likely use Xunlai Electrum Ingots (which require Silver and Gold), and that ANet has now released a gem store node offering 2/3 of those metals. Speculators put two and two together, and the free market did the rest.

@Zanshin: r500 Jeweler may allow us to craft Ascended trinkets where we can choose what upgrade goes into them, similar to how Ascended armor and weapons let us put our own runes/sigils in addition to infusions. If that happens, they’d be the “best” Ascended trinkets; the Ascended trinkets purchasable with relics/Laurels etc. would be the cheaper alternative for those who didn’t want to spend hundreds of gold crafting their own Ascended trinkets.

Yeah, if I were to speculate on cooking mats, I’d go for the ones at or near vendor prices and that match a theme. This could include:

- Berries (e.g. An Essence of Berries Ascended ingredient that requires 250 Blueberries, 250 Strawberries, 250 Blackberries and 250 Raspberries)
- Spices (excluding stuff like Chili Peppers that are already fairly expensive, but more stuff like Black Peppercorns)
- Root Vegetables (the less popular ones like Beets, Turnips, Rutabagas etc.)
- Meat, meat, meat, meat, MEAT (“Charrburger – the meatiest burger ever! Not made with actual Charr meat.”)

Quick Question (might be duh)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

There’s a number of factors which play into this:

1. Is your gear level appropriate? Often while levelling up, players neglect to upgrade their gear to keep pace with their levels. (I’m guilty of this myself when I was hoarding every last silver I got.) Level scaling takes your gear bonuses into account, so if you’re not using appropriate gear, you’re actually operating at a considerable handicap.

2. Sub-level 80’s tend to not have a complete suite of skills, multiple weapons and/or multiple armor sets, which means they’re less flexible. It’s quite common for experienced dungeon veterans to swap out skills, weapons or even armor sets for different sections of a dungeon. Lower level players usually don’t have these options, although it’s generally not a huge issue provided their build is versatile enough to deal with varying situations.

3. Dungeons are a considerable step up in difficulty from open world PvE. For many players, dungeons are the first time they’re confronting Elites and Champions, which can be a rude shock in terms of how much damage they deal. You adapt after a while, but yes, dungeons are not like what you’re used to if you haven’t done them before.

All that said, don’t let that discourage you from trying dungeons. Dungeons are advertised for a certain level range and up, and if you meet that criteria, you’re entitled to give it a go. Avoid groups that are advertising for experienced/speed clears/zerkers only etc., since these guys usually want experienced teammates who can blow through a dungeon quickly, but even “newbie” groups are likely to get an experienced player or two who’s willing to lead you through the dungeon if you speak up.

If you haven’t done any dungeons at all, you might also want to try doing low-level Fractals first. These are kind of in-between open world and dungeons in terms of difficulty, and they serve as a good place for you to cut your teeth.

While I do not like the dominance of the Berzerker meta (I am an ardent supporter of the “play how you want” ideal), I also acknowledge that it is extremely effective and the natural result of the rules that ANet created. I’d prefer to see ANet make other builds more attractive rather than just outright nerfing of Zerkers, because there ARE players who enjoy being in healer/supporter/shutdown roles as opposed to straight DPS. ANet wanted to break the trinity so players didn’t have to spend hours begging for a tank/healer (I remember the “LFG 2 Monks to GOOOO!!!” days from GW1 all too well, before Heroes were introduced), but unfortunately the design made it so that characters who were geared towards a heal/support/shutdown role were completely unnecessary or inferior to a pure damage spike team.

Why those people are trying to play dedicated healers in a game that was advertised with their removal?

Probably misinterpretation. I imagine many players read that as:

“You don’t need a dedicated tank/healer to beat our dungeons if each player runs a balanced build, but a traditional tank/heal/DPS party will also work if that’s what you like to play.”

They likely didn’t expect it to become “You don’t need a dedicated tank/healer, because DPS is all you need.”

It’s a bit like if in PvP, Spike teams became the undisputed #1 meta build. Since other teams have no chance to compete with Spike teams, everybody just runs Spike builds. Or if in WvW, the balance is geared so much towards offense that it becomes pointless to try and defend anything, so the game just turns into a revolving door of Keeps and Towers getting capped and recapped less than 5 mins later. The entire game environment becomes stale and boring as a result.

I’m glad that ANet has taken on board the feedback that the Living Story as it currently stands is not working as well as they had imagined it would. I look forward to seeing what this large “feature release” they’re doing will contain, even if it’s not till March at the earliest. (If it comes with a new PvE wardrobe, I will be over the moon.) In the meantime, I’m still having a lot of fun taking my characters through the general game itself; after more than a year of the game being out, I’m only JUST bringing my characters into the 50-60 zones. :P (Maybe by the end of 2014 I’ll have finally visited Orr!)

If even a map full of level 80, well coordinated players using voice comms couldn’t complete the invasion, what hope does a map full of randoms have of doing it?

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Yeah, Krait is pretty much out of the question, but I think the Naga (or possibly the Forgotten) may be possible alternatives as a serpentoid race. If the Tengu make their appearance as part of a Canthan expansion, the Naga may also be a possible new race. They were not always hostile to humanity, after all; they only turned to raiding to survive after their traditional homes and hunting grounds were destroyed by the Jade Wind. If the Naga fled from Cantha (just as the Tengu did) during Emperor Usoku’s purges, they probably would not need to retain their raider lifestyle if they managed to settle in rich areas.

I wouldn’t mind playable Kodan (making a Kodan Guardian if they become playable!), although I think they are unlikely due to the fact that Kodan are very similar to Norn in terms of gaming clichés (they are both big, physically powerful arctic-dwelling races), which means they’d have trouble standing out on their own.

Yeah, I wanted to give more incentive for players to not skip mobs and complete all events in a dungeon. Ideally, I want a situation where the speedclearers can earn X gold/tokens in 15 mins and then go do other stuff, while the vanquishers can earn 4X gold/tokens in 60 mins. The end result is the same, but both groups get to play the way they find most enjoyable.
