We can’t all just buy off the TP. We need to generate supply to even have some to sell
Since the collectible increase, I’ve been hoarding mine. XD Bought up a bunch of Flawless Snowflakes in preparation for my T6 crafting wave. (Since Giver’s can’t be made into Ascended gear, I’m saving my T6 mats for that stage.)
I just do open world PvE content. The levels come without even thinking about it. I go to the current map I’m mapping, do Hearts/skill points/POIs/Vistas, complete any events I come across, harvest every single node etc.
I have 5 level 80 characters now, and they all reached level 80 in the 15 – 25 level maps. If anything, I thought levelling was TOO fast!
Wish you could send them to me, ShiningSquirrel.
I still need 800 more…
Yeah, gold is not really a good measure of wealth. I imagine a lot of players think themselves poor by looking at their coin savings, but they probably have a considerable nest egg in the form of accumulated mats stored in their bank. And of course, TP traders would have most of their wealth tied up in buy/sell orders at any particular time.
kitten . Now those are some freaking abs. Bear bless Norn women.
Fixed.
Disa in Dredgehaunt Cliffs also frequently gets colds from playing in the snow too much.
Norn are an especially hardy and resilient race, but they also have weaker members of society. It’s likely that these individuals (and their families) probably do their best to conceal it lest they seem weak and thus shameful.
Nice post, Bazom! Loving the detailed information about the influences of the various real-world cultures on Canthan and Elonian societies.
The Luxons are another odd one. Their culture is reminiscent of nomadic, raiding cultures like the Mongols, yet their names have been borrowed from Greek sources.
Well, how long does a typical sPvP match take? I can complete Obsidian Sanctum in < 10 minutes for 15+ Badges; a sPvP match would need to provide at least 10 on a loss for the same amount of time (and 20 – 30 on a win) for me to consider it worth it.
I just want some variation in the colour. I’m tired of being Green all the time and stuck in an ugly swamp. :P
Perhaps make it so that players can deliver supply to a keep as well? (i.e. Tower has 0 supply. 5 players with 10 supply run into the tower and deposit it into the stash. Tower now has 50 supply.)
Can’t even get a color change for map completion…#wvwissofunnow
This ^^^ First Mag was red for an entire 7 weeks during a fail season 1….now are nothing but blue. Wow, thanks anet. Stuck fighting TC and FA, and always blue. This is so much fun.
Heh, glad to know players on other servers have the same frustration as me. I’m on TC, finished mapping Green weeks ago and desperately waiting to get Red or Blue, but no, it’s TC/FA/Mag and we’re Green YET AGAIN.
I join blobs because it’s often the only way for me (a PvE player who really doesn’t like PvP) to map WvW without getting ganked by solo roamers or small enemy groups. :P Ever consider that maybe the lone player running along isn’t looking for a fight, but just to get that POI/skill point and get out as fast as possible?
Depends. I generally do not enjoy PvP (outside of Activities), and I pretty much just get my Badges via AP chests and a daily run through Obsidian Sanctum. I already avoid most fights in WvW; you’d need to give me LOTS of Badges of Honor (even on a loss) to get me to step into sPvP.
The exchange rate dropped back down today when it turned out that today’s sale was the Aetherblade armor skins. Not surprising, seeing as how Character/Bank/Bag slots are the biggest sellers, followed by the convenience items.
The big question mark is will gem prices continue their upward march in 2014? Or is 6 – 8g the new equilibrium for the foreseeable future?
Consider me intrigued, but I’ll wait and see before praising or condemning the new content. Based on Lewis’s comments and Chris’s post here though, I’m going to make the following predictions:
- r500 Jeweler/Chef (this one’s pretty much a given)
- PvE/PvP Armor Wardrobe (quite likely given the news about PvE/PvP skin rewards being merged
- Precursor Crafting
- New Legendaries/Legendary Armor
- Guild Halls/Player Housing, with GvG being introduced as an new PvP mode (badly needed IMO, for bigger guilds that are overflowing with merits/influence)
- Tengu as a new playable race, along with an expansion to the Personal Story with new playable maps (possibly lead-on to a Cantha Living Story/expansion in the future, seeing as Lewis did say it wasn’t an expansion this time around)
There is also a very brief window where someone is invulnerable to all attacks when they’re picking up the keg. You may possibly have used the skill on them during this period.
That’s named dropped armor though. I’m looking for confirmation that dungeon armor with non-craftable stats (like AC gear with Soldier’s stats) do give the insignia when salvaged.
Didn’t JS once post that the vast majority of players in game own less than 10g? (Of course, this was half a year ago and before the massive wealth injections that was the Crown Pavilion and Champ trains came along.)
I don’t have much to add to the economic discussion (aside from finding it very interesting), but I’d rate the wealth base of the GW2 population as follows:
0-100g: Poor (although even this segment can equip themselves with Exotics in a couple of weeks through Champ trains, dungeon runs or just selling currently overpriced mats)
100-1000g: Middle-class (wealthy enough to purchase the odd luxury goods like Black Lion Ticket weapons or expensive Mystic Forge weapons)
1000g-5000g: Wealthy (this is about the wealth range you’d need in order to make or purchase a Legendary, which remains my milestone for deciding if someone is wealthy)
5000g+: TP Baron
I PUG because not everybody in my guild wants to do the exact same content I want to do at the exact same time. I ask in guild first, and then I either pad out the party with PUGs or PUG it all, depending on the interest.
I never kick anybody based on their profession. At the same time, I’ve never been kicked solely due to my profession either. Some builds may be less suitable for some dungeons/Fractals, but they can all be worked around. Carrying a melee and a ranged weapon should be an essential requirement for all professions though.
i never get kicked, the trick is to never join zerker, rush, experienced or speed runs
^
For me, when starting a new dungeon I will get together a guild group that’s willing to teach me. Once I know the dungeon, I then start PUGing, but usually advertise that newbies are welcome. (Or at least, I mention at the start that if people are new, just speak up so I can explain what to do.)
Heh. “Mistlock Instability 51: “For the Moletariate!” All Fractals will be the Dredge Fractal."
Yeah, I ran into this bug for the first time on the weekend too. Seems there’s a bug where if you kill the Veteran too quickly the first time before she says her dialogue, it permanently bugs the event where she will always spawn with a 0% health bar (in the event tracker), that gets bumped up to 50% when she dies. The event can fail at this point if the Skritt Thieves die, but any subsequent attempts to complete the event have the bar spawning at 0%, making it uncompletable (but still failable).
My guess is that they will tone down the amount of Linen and Silk Bolts required for Damask (as that’s driving the demand at the moment). It would be the simplest and most efficient solution.
Has ANet actually SAID they are looking at introducing downgrade recipes? Or is it just speculation at this point?
I wouldn’t mind either way. I only ever buy stuff to use myself, so a general reduction/levelling of prices only benefits me.
So it is accurate that non-craftable armor insignia (e.g. Soldier’s, Rabid, Shaman) CAN be salvaged from dungeon armor?
It will tick up from 44. It seems to increase whenever you complete 1 wave without dying, and you can do it across multiple Toypocalypse runs.
Ugh. So THAT’S why some players seemed to be downright unkillable. I’m glad that I’ve finished my Mayhem achievements and never need to go back in there again.
Easy strategy: Just range them. Their only really dangerous attack is their massive Confusion stacks, and they only use it if you’re close to them. Pop the present, grab any gifts, then run back to a distance and just focus one down, then move to the next.
The Golems are now my most hated Toy, with their non-stop chain Blinds/Daze/KD.
Tiny Snowflakes can be exchanged directly from the gift vendors, or found in Small Wintersday Gifts.
Other higher tier Snowflakes can be found in the progressively higher Gifts, with Flawless Snowflakes coming from the Giant Wintersday Gifts.
Wintersday toys out in the open world also rarely drop Snowflakes as loot, scaled to the map you’re in. (I got a Unique Snowflake from a Toy Soldier in Harathi Hinterlands.)
The rarest one seems to be Pristine Snowflakes, as I’ve only ever gotten them from Personalized Wintersday Gifts (which may explain why they’re twice the price of any other Snowflake). I’ve heard they may drop from Large Wintersday Gifts too, but I’ve only ever gotten Uniques from those.
I expect that the Toxic Seedlings will continue to appear rarely all over the world, and thus provide a small but steady supply for future crafting needs into the future. No idea whether the Toxic Offshoot events will keep spawning, but it seems that the Toxic Alliance will probably be greatly diminished, but still maintain a presence in Kessex Hills for the foreseeable future.
I have all the skins from past events too, and I have no problem with newer players being able to obtain them. I don’t believe in locking out a player of a look they want to have just because they weren’t around at the time. If the player is willing to put in the same work, they should be entitled to the same rewards. Same goes for titles.
That noise is meant to represent the Aether-axe’s moving mechanical parts, and is part of its appeal.
I want it to stay.
No, this is a bug. Normally Daily Fractal Runner only shows up about once a week. However, it’s appeared every single day for the last week and a bit. I suspect it’s due to a bug with the Dailies “bringing back” the Fractured Fortnight dailies, same way that the Boss Week dailies made an unexpected return.
To the OP, just ignore the Fractal dailies if you don’t want to do them. I just look at it as another option for me to get 1 AP for the day.
You could also replay the story instance and kill the one that spawns from the Watchknight by picking the wrong option. Of course, if you need to kill more than one, this is a very slow way of doing it.
Spiteful Spirit. Throw that onto a zerker Warrior/Thief and watch them explode.
Panic would be so, SO delicious thrown into a zerg.
Right. So the next thing we need to test is whether or not the Berserker must be the 2nd boss killed. To anyone who reads this thread, the next time you get the Molten Boss fractal, kill the Firestorm first, avoid all shockwaves and see if the achievement pops up.
Polymock confirmed!
Seriously, I would LOVE it if Polymock became a new activity that uses minis as pieces.
As many, many others have said, the one thing I hate the most is the fact that we don’t have access to a passive +25% speed boost either via a skill or a trait.
Soooo sloooooow!
Radiation Field gets my vote. Long-lasting AoE Weakness and Poison.
I juggle it with Glyph of Storms (in Earth Attunement) for excellent damage mitigation.
I also love the summoned Golems, but the fact that they only last 30 seconds compared to the 60 seconds for Glyph of Elementals means I don’t play with them as often as I’d like to.
^ Yeah, that is true. Still, I could live with it as long as Ascended is the LAST tier, because admittedly Exotics ARE fairly easy to get with the average player income these days.
And that’s why I’m worried about the potential for infusion gear grind. :/ Even if Ascended is the last tier, slow but steady power creep via ever-more powerful infusions (or even things like Ascended runes/sigils) basically amounts to the same thing.
With the reduced rate of karma gain these days, I would suggest:
1. Temple armor, but only if you like the skins
2. Obsidian Shards
3. Ascended recipes
If in doubt, go with Obsidian Shards. Prices for Lodestones have largely fallen due to Champ bags, so it’s not as profitable to open Orrian Boxes anymore.
They’re all in Elona.

You’re not the only one with this bug. Some people HAVE reported getting the achievement, so we’re trying to determine now what conditions trigger the achievement. You can help! During your run, did you:
1. Kill the Berserker or the Firestorm first? (Some people think that in order to get the achievement, the Berserker must be the one alive during the 2nd phase.)
2. Avoid the shockwaves by jumping/dodging, or by remaining completely out of range?
3. Get hit by any other attack from the bosses? (e.g. flame circle, melee punch, the Firestorm’s wind circle in 2nd phase)
4. Use any kind of summon/minion/pet that got hit by the shockwave?
From my own experience, I can say that killing the Berserker first and remaining completely out of range from him (1500 range Longbow) did not give the achievement. I DID have a pet that got hit by some shockwaves. Got hit by one of the Firestorm’s fire circles.
While I’m not a fan of skipping either, I just want to point out that leashing enemies is also important, because otherwise you could create situations where players just drag enemies, even bosses, to locations where the enemy gets stuck or is unable to use their special mechanics, thus rendering them extremely easy to beat. Simplest example: Boss uses only melee attacks. Party lures boss to a room with pillars. Everybody jumps on a pillar and ranges the boss in complete safety.
Having enemies remain in a more or less fixed location also prevents bugs where players can’t progress because a boss didn’t die where it was supposed to.
From the player’s perspective, having enemies leash back also allows players to retreat from bad situations. If enemies never leashed, then basically every fight is a Victory or Death situation; if you make any mistakes, or underestimated the enemy group, or even just got surprised by a patrol, then everybody’s wiping since enemies will chase you to the ends of Tyria. I think that would just create more player frustration.
I’d rather encourage players to fight via a combination of rewards (“The more enemies you kill, the better the end chest rewards will be!”) and gating (“The door to the next zone will remain closed until all enemies in the previous room are dead.” or “You need a key to open the door. One random enemy in the room has it. Go forth and slaughter!”)
Hehe, BOTH candidates get testy if you tell them you voted for the other guy. However, Evon gives you a “Clever of you to bet on both sides” response if you tell him you voted for both of them, while Kiel is disappointed in you for subverting the democratic process.
This is a good thing though, yes? Radiant Dust is only a 1/3 the price of Luminous Dust.
I make my own goals for myself in any game I play. As a completionist, usually it’s a combination of “do every single quest, get to maximum level, get the best gear that also looks good to my eyes, and learn every single spell/recipe”. When I complete those personal goals, I regard the game as being “won”. What other players do to “win” the game is their own choice and I really don’t care about.

There ya go. The key things to pay attention to are the lines about Evon being a loyal Ash Legion operative and never questioning orders. That means that what the Gnash warband was doing in LA was fully sanctioned by the Ash Legion. Since the Ash Legion specialises in espionage and information gathering, the most obvious conclusion is that they are here to spy on the people and leaders of Lion’s Arch.
Heck, for all I know, Evon is secretly funnelling part of his profits back to the Ash Legion!
