Eh, it’s OK. There’s plenty of room for good skill and strategy, but you really need a team that knows what they’re doing to win. I tend to dislike activities where you have to rely on an unreliable team for victory.
You still have to make it from Tixx’s platform to the end before your health runs out. That’s the part I can’t do yet >.<
That part is actually pretty easy once you know what to do.
1. Exploding presents – The trickiest bit. You can actually take a running leap and jump onto the red presents before the blue presents even appear. This gives you an additional second or two to run before the presents start exploding. If this portion is proving to be your undoing, talk to Tixx and get his checkpoint; that will give you an additional try if you fail.
2. Candy cane bridge – There is a wind gust that can knock you off just before the bridge. To get through safely every time, just dodge roll through it.
3. Snowball slope – The key with this part is to take your time. Wait at each peppermint ledge for the snowball (and the icicles fired by the Skritt) to pass before running to the next ledge.
To get a bit more speed on the last part of the slope, dodge roll up the hill twice then leap onto the presents.
4. Final present jumps – Jump on the BLUE presents (along with one candy cane). I sometimes see people mistakenly trying to jump onto the red/orange presents and falling.
I do agree that we should get more rewards each wave if all 5 Dolyaks are still alive.
I’d still hang onto them until Wintersday is over, at least. You never know!
I saw that too.
I’m not sure what he’s referring to about the “islands” either. Is he perhaps talking about the Heart of the Mists? Will Scarlet show up in sPvP too? XD
Sorry to spoil people’s hopes, but I’m quite certain Kasmeer was joking about that. :P She’s almost certainly wearing armor; it’s just that she’s disguised the armor’s appearance using an illusion (aka Transmutation Stones?), hence its appearance not changing.
Still a funny conversation though. XD
Did you not receive rewards for spending your karma (loot from Orrian Jewelry Boxes) and for running dungeons (gold, dungeon tokens, drops)? Someone who has 2 million Glory, according to your example, has obviously spent a truckload of time in the game as well. Why should they not be entitled to a fairer level of reward for that dedication?
Considering that Glory is going to be removed and PvP skins will require gold moving forward, it seems more than fair to me that hardcore PvP players get a decent nest egg to buy skins and such in future. (After all, the kind of player who earned 2 million Glory in PvP is more than likely going to keep doing PvP after the update. They’re not likely to start doing PvE now.)
It’s just RNG. I had a really bad streak a few days ago, but it’s back to normal now.
Would love Skritt to be a playable race (I wanna be a Skritt Engineer that calls herself a Doctor and runs around hurling junk, erm, ELIXERS, at people
), but it’s unlikely to ever happen given their unusual intelligence.
I would love Krait/Naga as a playable race too.
To my knowledge, no MMO (or any RPG, for that matter) has ever allowed players to be a serpentoid race. Reptilian humanoids, yes, but not serpentoids. Krait are highly unlikely to ever happen, but Naga may be a possibility if/when a Canthan expansion is released. The original Naga were not really hostile to humanity; they only turned to raiding to survive after the Jade Wind unleashed by Shiro destroyed all of their traditional homes and hunting grounds.
The Tengu will almost certainly be the next playable race if ANet ever releases more. They were originally slated to be the 6th playable race, but got cut due to lack of time.
Kodan are another solid possibility, but I think there’s two major factors against them:
1. They share too many gaming clichés with Norn (big, powerful, arctic-dwelling race) for them to really stand out on their own.
2. Male and female Kodan look almost identical to each other, which means that player customisation would be very limited. This is a big no-no when it comes to MMO’s.
See, this is why I think all items in the game should be tradable.
I’ve got FOUR inscription recipes, and I’ve already learned one each on my Artificer, Hunstman and Weaponsmith characters.
It will probably run out, then supply will continue to flow in until prices stabilise a month or so down the line. It’s a good time for anybody who stockpiled Silk to sell.
If you can get 7-10 gold easily from events and such, I’d say you’re doing fine when it comes to acquiring money.
Expect the Xunlai Electrum Ingots to require large amounts of Silver ore, moderate Gold ore, and small Platinum ore (since Platinum is shared by Jeweler as well as Armor and Weaponsmithing).
I thought that colour rotation is completely random now? Back in the old days it used to be that Green = 1st, Red = 2nd and Blue = 3rd (or was 2 and 3 swapped?), but I’m quite certain that a patch some months ago removed that.
I would actually love it if they would allow it to be sold on the TP, then players like you who do not want it, could sell it to players like me who do want it.
+1. I wish that EVERYTHING in the game could be bought and sold, really.
I’ve never gotten anything but 3 Giant gifts for doing the JP this year. Last year the first time you did the JP each day you got bonus loot, but it seems to have been removed for 2013.
1. Tengu
2. Krait/Naga
3. Skritt
“I’m amazing!”
Yes. Yes, you are.
Town Clothes aren’t as popular sellers because most players prefer to run around in their armor, plus town clothes revert back to armor as soon as you get any damage, making it useless in zones outside of towns.
That said, I do agree that rather than removing them altogether, I’d prefer it if ANet just restructured the shop so it’s not as cluttered and difficult to navigate.
^ Well, not exactly. It is still needed to craft the Exotic Insignia that goes into the Ascended insignia. But yeah, it’s needed in much more miniscule amounts.
I’m pleased to see Silk prices rising though. Now if only ANet could do something about Thick Leather.
Huh. I didn’t realise they actually had a vendor price! Sure wouldn’t mind it being added back though; being able to vendor them for 1.3 silver would be nice.
@Kamui: Thanks! I was looking in the wrong place all the time.
Back on topic, I’m a bit sad that the CFSOM got nerfed, but at the same time, it means I just saved a lot of time from having to Forge minor runes/sigils, so it’s a win either way.
The invasions have the same problem as Tequatl in that they’re designed with a minimum player threshold in mind. If you don’t have at least about 80+ players, you can pretty much forget about completing the content.
ANet needs to go back to the system that worked at the beginning and scale the events down so they can be completed by small groups of players as well as bigger ones.
Killed her on the weekend. Didn’t notice any difference in the loot either. :/ (Shame really. Was hoping to get the new Settler Insignia recipe.)
I think the gathering and crafting system in GW2 is fine. I certainly enjoy both activities as a supplement to my usual adventuring.
A thread like this pops up every week or two.
To this, I’ll just post the same suggestions I’ve made to every one.
1. Introduce a recipe to upgrade Copper Doubloons to Silver Doubloons.
2. Gift of Quicksilver now requires Platinum Doubloons.
Just be patient. It’s only been a week since Ascended armor was released, and there’s a big rush from players who want BiS gear. In about a month or two prices will probably settle down again, both because the players who want BiS gear will have got it already, and because other players will have crunched the numbers and decided that the marginal increase of Ascended armor isn’t worth the immense amount of money it would take to get it.
Personally speaking, I will equip my characters with one set of Ascended armor eventually, but this is a very long term goal. (Like 1 – 2 years.)
It’s because when the game was launched (most people were lvl’ing up) there was an insane supply of these logs. To counter it, Anet made changed the recipe from 3 to 4.
^ Basically that. With the introduction of Ascended crafting though, demand for Soft Wood has also increased dramatically. I’m still hopeful that ANet will reduce Soft Wood Planks down to 3 logs again.
And everyone who stocked up on Gossamer is kittening livid. >.>
They invested into the wrong material. If Ascended Weapons were anything to go by, you don’t actually need that much T6 materials for crafting Ascended gear. They’re needed only to craft the inscriptions/insignia. T2 – T5 materials will be needed in far greater quantities.
I sympathise with the OP, but chances are they won’t be available again (unless ANet brings it back for a “re-run”, like what they did with SAB World 1 and Boss Week). I see no reason we couldn’t have Fractured back as a “filler” Living Story in between updates though.
I’d also like WvW Season 1 to become available again up until Season 2 is released. (I don’t even mind missing out on the chest or title. I just want the APs. XD)
Really? Maybe Glue/Stuffing is still a very rare drop from Gifts then. I’ve opened close to 500 now and haven’t seen any. But so far I’ve not seen any information about whether Cogs are still available. (Got 200 left from last year.
)
One change I would like. Please make it an infinitely repeating achievement! Maybe award 10 points per Gold donated?
“No” to this portion. I’d like to keep my gold. XD
Charged Quartz still drops in the gifts! I’ve gotten two since the patch. It’s just much rarer than it used to be.
Still looking for a Light of Dwayna recipe though. No luck so far.
I play a round of 6 songs every day.
Even after I get the AP’s for it, I will probably keep playing. It’s nice to get into a friendly competition with other players trying to “win” that game. XD
-shrug- If I get into matches like those, I do enough to participate and get credit, then swap to the winning team at the start of the next match. I’m mainly in there to get the AP’s myself (since I tend to dislike activities where you need to rely on an unreliable team to win), but I also don’t “throw matches” unless it’s obvious that everybody else is doing so.
He was there last year too. But I agree; playable Tengu plzthx!
^ Agreed. Kiel knows that the Consortium resorts to shady, underhanded means of securing a business edge. We know this too from our experiences in Southsun. However, I do agree that Kiel perhaps has a bit of a vendetta against the Consortium, and it’s colouring her view on events.
That said, there’s signs that the Consortium is trying to secure an angle again now that the Tower of Nightmares has been destroyed. Surely people have noticed the Consortium guard trading karma food ingredients for Toxic Spores at Thunder Ridge Camp? Across the lake in Black Haven, there’s also another Consortium agent who’s asking for directions to the Tower.
What’s the Consortium’s angle here? Why are they collecting Toxic Spores? Kiel sees the Consortium’s hand in things that they don’t necessarily have a presence in, but given their past history, I’d say the Consortium IS up to something.
(Personally I’m glad though! The world needs more “evil” factions that aren’t necessarily aligned with Scarlet.)
I WAS wondering why there was a Consortium guard selling karma ingredients at Thunder Ridge Camp. O.o
And he’s taking them in exchange for Toxic Spores too! What are they collecting them for? -suspicious-
Nah. If there WAS a Warlock somewhere in the zone, people would have found him by now. My guess is that originally the Warlock was meant to spawn somewhere in Kessex, but they took him out. (The lack of any achievements linked to him supports that theory.)
Well, if you want to do that, that’s still possible. Just have one person designated as present runner (teams can alternate between matches so everybody gets Giant gifts). Everybody else just ignore the runner and fight it out. Best of both worlds.
Last year what I would do is have 2 people with the Popgun and 3 people with the Candy Cane for Toxx. The canes stagger their interrupts to keep Toxx from doing anything, and the Popguns burn her health down. Not sure if that’s still necessary this year.
So let me just get this straight since I haven’t done the infinarium this year yet-
Can you pick a mini after you complete it?
Does it drop cogs at all?
Do you have to complete the stupid meta to get only one of the toy mini’s?
1. No. You cannot get Toy Frames anymore, regardless of which toy you select as being for “production” when you start the dungeon. (Which makes me wonder why it’s even an option. Meh.)
2. Mystic Cogs/Magic Glue/Enchanted Stuffing do not drop from completion of the Infinirarium dungeon. Glue and Stuffing can still be bought on the TP (likely leftover from last year), but as far as I know they cannot be obtained anymore.
3. Yes, the only way to get one of the Toy minis is to complete the meta.
I go with the Middle Scale.
I find it the easiest of the 3. However, The Great Toymaker and Fear Not This Night have some pretty tricky sections. I usually mess up a perfect score around those.
True. Still, since NiO has not been given an official duration, I’d devote most of my attention to getting that done first.
Thankfully it’s pretty short; I got just about all the achievements done in about 3 – 4 hours of play. Just waiting to finish today’s daily and pick up a free Tri-Key so I don’t have to spend another 30 Spores + 45 silver buying another from Dee to complete the last achievement.
/sigh
The difference in the rates is meant to curb day traders like me from treating Gold and Gems like a real world exchange. In a small, close economy like GW2, it would be too easy to manipulate a currency market without these barriers in place.
Good lord, did I just say that out loud?
Could you imagine how rich we could be right now? Oh my…. It would be a fun ride.
At least until everybody catches on and the resulting inflation drives the economy straight into the gutter.
Somewhat related question. Where is the option to switch on the item rarity border? I’ve been looking through my Options but I can’t see anything. Am I blind or just looking in the wrong place?
Agreed that it would be nice to be able to gift account upgrades. Hopefully in the future we’ll be able to do this.
Still waiting for the exchange rate to hit 100 gems for 10 gold so I can sell my gems.
