Lost Shores is introducing a new “resource node”, and 200 new recipes, so my belief is that this new resource will allow crafters to craft their own Ascended items and Infusions. It’s just speculation at this point, but it just seems like a logical step. (Or if not, then we can always petition ANet to include this functionality at some point in the future.)
The reason why there are still buy listings for Lemons on the TP is because originally Lemons weren’t account bound, and ANet has yet to purge the old orders from the TP.
Secondly, some players (probably bots or gold farmers) are using the TP as a store for gold, since the money for the order is taken when you place the order, but you can get it back at any time by cancelling the order. Since Lemons are account bound, the player is at no risk of losing his money since nobody can fulfill his order.
That said, I would laugh SO hard if the Nov 15 change made Lemons non-account bound once more and somebody fulfilled that 3800g order for 1 Lemon. :P
Actually I believe it’s 7am now instead of 6am since the US lost daylight savings, but your point still stands.
It’s still 6am for me, since my state does not use Daylight Savings. (Hurrah!) I happen to fall into a razor-thin spot where I can still make the event by waking up earlier, and then going to work afterwards (depending on how long the event lasts), but players from our western state, New Zealand or Asia won’t be so lucky.
In all likelihood, one-time only achievements will be put into the “Festival” category the same way the Halloween achievements were. Once the event is over, the category disappears so you don’t see it sitting, uncompleted, in your profile taunting you.
And with any luck, when festivals roll around again next year, you’ll be given a second chance to complete them.
To the OP: You’re mistaken. The big, one-time only finale is taking place on your Sunday, at 12 noon PDT. Sure, you’ll miss out on the kick-off, but that’s not what the “one-time event” is referring to.
Now, us poor folk from the Asian/Oceanic region WILL miss out on the special finale, because it falls either at a ridiculously early hour on a MONDAY morning, or when people have already started heading out to go to school/work. So even as you breathe a sigh of relief, hang on to your sense of outrage and lend us Asia/Oceanic players a hand by calling on ANet to bring back repeatable (or instanced) finales so that everybody has a chance to participate.
@Norb: My expectation is that the finale on Sunday/Monday will be a boss fight against the Ancient Karka. I’m HOPING that the boss fight itself will be repeatable maybe once every 2 – 3 hours, with the one-time only event being a cutscene similar to what we had for Halloween.
What really concerns me is the “special reward” ANet has said players will receive for taking part in the finale. Again, my expectation is that it’s probably going to be a hat of some kind, similar to the hat we got for attending the Mad King party, and that if you miss the finale, you can get the hat by talking to an NPC. However, it’s all just speculation, and things could go either way.
EDIT: I just read Stephanie’s sticky post at the top of the forum, and I need to adjust what I wrote. It seems that there IS another one-time event happening during the kick-off, but this one more than likely will simply be a cinematic of the karka making their first appearance (and invasion) of Lion’s Arch. All other information seems to suggest that repelling the karka will be an ongoing event that lasts for the duration of the weekend.

Going back to the OP’s post, the auto-upgrade of level 80 Dungeon Exotics (both armor and weapons) being automatically buffed to Ascended status is something I would support. (I also support the same happening for T3 Cultural armor, but for some reason people don’t seem as keen on it.)
At the same time, there already exist several items in the game that are extremely expensive to produce, but are not quite Legendary status, like Mystic Weapons, the Triforge Pendant, Infinite Light, Foefire etc. These items should also be buffed to Ascended status, or even made into new Legendaries.
I, for one, did get the Mad Memoires (Complete Edition) on all 5 of my characters. As well as completing the Clock Tower on all 5. I wasn’t particularly interested in grinding the Labyrinth or Ascent to Madness, so I did them once on each character, and then moved on.
That said, I don’t think it would have made much difference for it to have been Account Bound rather than Soulbound straight up. Still, I’m sure it will be back again next year.
This is actually a good idea. A 100% chance to get a Rare material from a chest would be too high though. Maybe a 10 – 25% chance (depending on the “ease” of the JP) to get a Rare crafting material from a Jumping Puzzle chest? This would help increase the supply of Rare materials, but since chests can’t be opened more than once per day, they can’t really be farmed in the traditional sense.
My personal feelings about Ascended items notwithstanding (I’m generally against it, but I feel it could be manageable depending on what other changes make to existing and new items to accomodate the new tier), I AM thankful to ANet for the free new content. Halloween was a lot of fun, and I hope that the Lost Shores proves to be just as enjoyable.
I’ve never seen one myself, but they probably drop from Ice Elementals and Ice Imps.
- Relating to the quote above, does this mean we are going to be able to attain Ascended gear from the previous dungeons(Twilight Arbor, Citadel of Flame, Ascalonian Catacombs, etc.) and crafting?
1. On a related note to the above question, there already exist a number of rare/costly (but not Legendary) items within the game such as Mystic Weapons, the Triforge Amulet etc. Will these items also be buffed to Ascended status?
2. How will Legendary/Ascended items work within sPvP/WvW/dungeons? Will they retain their increased stats? Or is the extra stats only applied when the player is attempting the Fractals dungeon?
You could think really long term, and make a killing but this only works if they don’t re-release the same skins again next year Halloween completely resetting the market.
Which they almost certainly will.
As far as I know, those two events should simply start on a regular basis. (The Windmill under Attack event may be caused by failing another event, however, such as not stopping the bandits from burning Farmer Jeb’s fields.)
That said, there are a number of events that are broken on some servers where they’re simply not starting at all. These two events may fall into that category.
You guys made a real good point. There was no gap, and if they felt there was a grind gap why wasn’t that gap bridge with cosmetics?
Just wait till they show you how the cash shop works with all of this.
This is a little tangential, but one good thing for me that has come out of this thread is that someone else pointed out that there actually is an intermediary between typical exotic items and the legendary:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items
These items each have a unique skin, are more difficult to acquire than a level 80 exotic of equal stats, but easier to acquire than a legendary weapon of equal stats. (They also don’t require mystic forge gambling, yay!)
The presence of these items and the fact that the devs have said that they will make other Ascended content available through PvE and PvP means that I’m waiting to see if they don’t buff these items to be Ascended (or perhaps even Legendary) themselves. Look at the Triforge Amulet, for example. It costs a CRAZY amount of materials to get, and provides bonuses that are far in excess of what a standard level 80 Exotic crafted amulet could give, yet it itself is only an Exotic.
I’m betting that the Nov 15 update will also upgrade many of these “semi-Legendary” items to be Ascended items. Who knows? Maybe the level 80 Exotic dungeon armor/weapons will ALSO be buffed to Ascended status, or new recipes will be introduced that allow crafters to craft Ascended-level gear themselves.

Crab pet for Lost Shores! I miss my Pinchy from GW1.
Some more varieties of Fish pets would be nice too. It’s rather sad how Armored Fish is the only member of its class. Plus, some of the fish mobs look downright scary. O.o
It would also be nice if they brought the Rainbow Phoenix back as a special pet you could only charm in the HoM if you unlocked it in GW1.
This is more of a general tip, but make sure you switch weapons midfight and go in and out of Death Shroud frequently. Don’t simply stand there and autoattack just because your current skills are on cooldown.
I echo this advice, even as somebody who generally dislikes the Death Shroud mechanic. The Life Transfer ability is a great way to deal a healthy packet of AoE damage, and Fear is a good way to take an enemy out of the fight for a few seconds while your allies beat on him (or to give you an opportunity to flee if the fight’s going against you).
scepter /pistol (or whatever fits my situation for off-hand)
staff1/4 the same here lol
Wow… You use the same weapon sets I do! I thought I was the only one!
Prices for seasonal products can ALWAYS be expected to drop the further away from the seasonal event it is. This remains true for the Halloween skins because:
a) the people who wanted the skin in the first place have already got it, and
b) the crowd has moved on to whatever is the current “hot item”.
I bet we’ll see the exact same situation repeat itself when Wintersday is out and Wintersday-themed skins become available.
Tengu? HELL YES. I’m convinced that they will be the next playable race and already have plans for a Tengu Thief.
Skritt? HELL YES. I want to make her an Engineer and run around hurling junk, er, I mean grenades and elixirs, at people.
Kodan? I think they share too much of the same thematical role as Norn, but eh, if ANet introduces them as a playable race, I won’t mind. Kodan Guardian will be my choice if they get brought in.
Pretty sure that the hamburger (and its other burger relatives) are discoverable only. There are a few Chef karma recipes out there, but they are few and far between.
Oh, I’m sure they’ll add a lot more to the list. There’s tons of Group Event Champion/Veteran bosses that could be added to the hit list. A few I can think of off the top of my head:
1. The Champion Cave Troll in Queensdale.
2. The Champion Icebrood fought at the end of the Battle for Dragonblest Hold in Wayfarer Foothills.
3. Goemm the Mad, from the end of the Goemm’s Lab jumping puzzle in Metrica Province.
4. Horace, from the end of the Battle in the Vaults meta-event.
5. The infamous Krait Witch at the Zopatl Grounds in Caledon Forest.
While jute can drop from bags dropped by those enemies, I find that my main source of Jute comes from salvaging Light armor (Chest and Leg pieces tend to give more scraps when salvaged) and cloth-related salvage items like Shredded Garments and Shredded Rags.
Ettins and Risen can drop Shredded Garments and Rags too. Basically, any sort of humanoid/equipment-using foe can be farmed for jute.
Eventually Ascended items will be expanded to include other types of armor (and possibly weapons) as well, however.
My only concern is that players with Legendary/Ascended items will have an advantage, however small, over other players in WvW/sPvP. However, I’m expecting that ANet will either downscale Legendary/Ascended items, or upscale everybody else’s equipment, in these modes to keep the playing field level.
Considering how expensive and powerful it is, I think they should make it a Legendary amulet.
I’m personally hoping for it to be tied to the “Bosses” achievement category.
Seek out and slay legendary foes throughout the world, and at the end of it, your Herald sends you a mail directing you to speak to an NPC where you can choose your precursor, saying that you have proven yourself worthy of wielding such a mighty weapon.
Mu guess at the moment is that it’s on a timer and bugged on some servers.
That is correct. The devs have confirmed that this meta-event is broken on some servers. Evidently it’s supposed to trigger once every couple of hours (exact details aren’t known. It could be once every 1 – 3 hours) without any actions on the player’s part, but on some servers, the meta-event is failing to start altogether. Hopefully it will be addressed as part of the November patch.
Yes, but back then level 80 Exotic dungeon gear was also the top tier of power. Perhaps the stats didn’t quite suit your build, but for another player, their Arah/CoF/HotW might suit their build PERFECTLY. It wasn’t absolutely necessary to get two sets of armor if you could “live with” the stats of the original Exotic set. The introduction of Ascended tier equipment means this is no longer the case, and one has to grind a set of Ascended armor AND grind a set of dungeon armor if you want to get a specific look while still remaining at the top level of competitiveness.
The OP does make a good point, actually. With the introduction of Ascended items, the time/money that needs to be invested into dungeon equipment (and heck, Tier 3 Cultural armor too, while we’re at it) either needs to be looked at and reduced to more reasonable levels (perhaps 100 tokens for a weapon, and 500 tokens for a full Exotic armor set), or Dungeon Armor/Weapons and Tier 3 Cultural Armor need to be buffed to Ascended status as well.
Yes for new gear. No for that gear having greater stats. Big no for having to grind out defense against a death timer.
My stance is somewhat similar. I’m all for new skins and item appearances, but I’m NOT very thrilled about Ascended items having better stats than Exotics. In the long run, I honestly doubt that the average player will see much difference between wearing an Exotic set and wearing an Ascended set, but it sets a bad precedent.
However, this problem could still be largely eliminated if the higher stats for Ascended/Legendary items was downscaled in all areas BUT the new dungeon (and perhaps for subsequent end-game dungeons). This means that you could still run around in Exotics for 95% of the game, and keep an Ascended set purely for running dungeons that have the Agony mechanic. Players with Legendaries/Ascended sets also would not have any innate advantage over players without them in modes such as WvW and sPvP, or even general PvE.
I’m not necessarily against the Infusion mechanic as a whole, because from reading the description of the dungeon it sounds as if you could still experience all the content of Fractals without any infused armor, since it randomly chooses 3 out of the 9 paths. (Which also means over time, even if you just play level one over and over, you’ll see all 9 paths anyway.) If Agony doesn’t really start to kick in till you’ve completed the 3 paths and decide to stay for 4 – 6, then it would be a fairly easy matter for non-Infused players to simply play the first level until they do get enough Infused gear to stick around for longer.
I can only hope that they decided to add karma recipes to the vendors so that crafters can create gear on par with these new ascended items.
I agree there should at least be an alternative way to get the equivalent items. If it’s going to be a treadmill, then make one for the different players. PvP, PvE, Crafters, ect.
Well, they did mention that the Lost Shores will include new crafting resources and over 200 new recipes, so here’s hoping that it also introduces a new tier of crafting at rank 400 that allows us to craft Ascended-equivalent gear!
As an aside, did anybody else notice this little snippet?
“As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).”
Complimentary Ascended and Legendary items? As in, we’ll get a FREE Ascended/Legendary item when Lost Shores is released?
No, they mean to compliment the new content. Ie, increase the stats again.
No, the word “complimentary” is used to indicate stuff that is given out free of charge. It’s possible that Linsey made a mistake and meant to say “complementary”, which would be more in line with what you were suggesting, but “complementary” wouldn’t make sense given the context of the sentence.

Called it! Infusions do absolutely nothing outside of the new dungeon:
“In the upcoming Fractals of the Mists dungeon, we’ll introduce a new monster condition called Agony. This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”
That said, it seems that Ascended items ARE slightly better than Exotics, although I’m not sure the difference is enough to really make a noticeable difference to the average player’s experience.
Charr Hide Armor. < Do you know how hard it is to like a race, if you were willing to skin them and wear them for armor?
Not much different from salvaging leather scraps from centaur hides and using that to craft my leather armor on my Norn, I presume.
I’m still holding out hope that ANet will eventually make unlocked dyes account-wide instead of per character. If that change goes in, you can bet dye prices will tumble a fair bit.
It’s also quite fun when you have more than one Warrior in the party and everybody staggers their “FGJ!” to have permanent Fury on everyone.
I get plenty of Vanilla from Herb Seedlings in Caledon Forest and Metrica Province, but this is post-patch that removed Thyme/Parsley from the Herb Seedling nodes in those areas. They were rarer before, but I still managed to stockpile about 30 or so prior to the patch. I’m honestly not sure how many I’ve got now!
Chili peppers are rarer, and they only seem to drop from Herb Seedlings in Plains of Ashford and maybe the 15-25 zone (still haven’t been there, so I can’t confirm it). Trouble is, Herb Seedlings there share their drop table with Garlic and Peppercorns, with Chili being the rarest of the three.
I swap between the Owl and Wurm for one of my slots. The Wurm makes for an extra meat-shield for my Ranger, helping to take some heat off my pet, and the Owl is a nice way to cause some long-lasting Bleeding that you can further stack with weapon skills. Plus, it just seems appropriate to have my Ranger calling down a feathered friend to attack her foes, without having to carry a Warhorn or a bird pet.
Yumiko, follow my example and just sell your stash of BLC’s once the price hits a reasonable level.
lol i would like to know what server you played on…lowbies zones are packed with people? loool
Tarnished Coast on weekends. I can confirm that low level zones are still buzzing with activity there. It’s quieter on weekdays, especially since I’m an Aussie playing on a US server, but there’s typically still people around.
I believe that the ears on male Asura also sagged more as they aged (compare older Asura like Vekk, Gadd and Mamp in GW1 with most unnamed Asura NPCs, whose ears stuck out at 90 degrees), but ANet may have retconned this in GW2, as it’s just about impossible to create those horizontal ears on an Asura, and even progeny can have floppy ears.
I wouldn’t mind the level cap being raised to allow people to gain more trait points (even at level 100 you still wouldn’t be able to max out every trait line), but with the gear remaining capped at level 80.
I’m pretty certain that ANet has stated they’re not making any new classes, but new races and/or weapons are a possibility.
While I admit to having a few misgivings over the whole Ascended gear thing, I think everybody’s panicking too soon. We don’t exactly know what Ascended gear will DO at this point. If it’s anything like the Infusion mechanic from GW1, it may be that Ascended gear have an additional Infusion slot that means, when an armor is infused, it allows you to survive a special attack from a particular enemy that’s only found in this new dungeon. (Remember how originally in GW1, you had to infuse each armor piece SEPARATELY?)
So, yes, technically it DOES make you more powerful, but only in a very specific location, and only against specific enemies. Everywhere else in PvE, it’s completely useless.
Let’s just wait for the official blog post about Ascended gear first before getting out the pitchforks and torches, ’k?
Today I heard my Charr Warrior yell “WAHOO!” in an excited voice when I Shield Bashed a frog. It made me rather confused.
oOo, nice teeth.
- Random male QuagganAlways makes me wanna escape as fast as I can before 20 quaggans take hold of me and try to rip my jaw off.
I’ve always been a bit afraid of Quaggans whenever one of them says the said line, but now I am thoroughly terrified.
It’s doubly creepy when the female Quaggan next to him then compliments you on your “nice skin”.
The Lost Shores official page actually states that the karka were driven from their “murky hives”, presumably by the minions of the DSD, which may be the tentacled monster depicted on the posters. It’s still too early to tell.
Given that the DSD and Zhaitan’s spheres of influence overlap somewhat, one has to wonder if their minions are not already battling it out under the waves though.
The best pet name I have ever seen was a Pig named “Chauvinistic”. XD
I’ve noticed that my Bone Minions seem to be reluctant to charge into battle (“What do you mean you don’t want to be blown up? GET IN THERE!”), but if you run into melee range yourself and start attacking the target, they will follow your lead. It seems that being too far away from enemies confuses their little rotting brains.
