The reason your high level zones are empty.

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

I honestly feel that the WP travel cost is a large contributor to why zones feel so empty. With that cost in place, it makes players more reluctant to travel around the world, meaning that if a guildie needs help back in a low-level zone, they have to weigh their desire to help against the cost to travel there.

Personally I’d love it if WP fees were removed altogether, but I imagine that will never happen because it’s acting as a gold sink. However, ANet could mitigate this cost somewhat by allowing one free WP travel every 30 mins. If you try to WP more than once within that period, you will start paying for each subsequent trip.

Alternatively, ANet could put in a “Frequent Asuran Gater” token for sale in the gem store that halves the cost of WP travel. I bet a LOT of players would snap that up. (I know I would!)

Norn Relationships?

in Lore

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Norn relationships are usually built around a union of equals. As much of their culture revolves around boasting, prestige and status, any relationship where one member of the couple is clearly outclassed by the other would soon lead to resentment and feelings of inferiority by the lesser partner.

As such, I have the feeling that Norn marriages are quite rare, and that most Norn prefer to have “relationships of convenience” that last as long as both partners feel happy and content in the relationship. If/when feelings fade, the partners separate and go their different ways.

This system could work by the fact that most Norn do not build or maintain their own homes. Instead, they gather and live at a lodge built and owned by a Norn of great renown, and presumably all Norn staying at a lodge chip in with regards to housework, hunting or looking after children. (For this reason, I believe single parents are in no way frowned upon in Norn society, and that men as well as women suffer no stigma for being the primary caregiver.) Norn who are disruptive or do not contribute to the lodge’s upkeep are probably given warnings, before eventually being kicked out.

How would YOU like your DeathShroud?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

I’d actually like Death Shroud to offer more flexibility for Necros who don’t necessarily like to enter it. For instance, while I will sometimes pop into DS to use Fear or Life Transfer, 95% of the time I’m sticking with my weapons and minions.

I’d like to see a system where you can utilise DS to increase your other Necromancer abilities. For example, perhaps you can reserve portions of your DS in order to summon additional minions. After summoning a Blood Fiend, you could summon a second one, but at the cost of reserving 25% of your DS bar. You can repeat this up to four times to have 5 Blood Fiends following you around, but you wouldn’t be able to enter DS at all in that situation.

You could also mix and match minions in this regard, ending up with 2 Blood Fiends, 2 Bone Fiends, 4 Bone Minions and 2 Flesh Wurms. (Perhaps Flesh Golems can’t be summoned more than once, owing to their much more powerful special ability.)

Price of Dye

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Yep, it’s a flow-over effect from the massive bot ban. Prior to this bots would just sell any unid’ed dyes they found on the TP, since the return for doing so is more profitable in the long run than selling id’ed ones. Now that their numbers have been hammered, supply has dropped by a lot and prices have gone up as a result.

The increased supply of Precursors and people going for Bifrost and Sunrise probably hasn’t helped though.

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Unfortunately such a change would likely mean it would be abused by players, since you become Invulnerable while viewing a Vista. They’d just have one player constantly view the Vista in order to become an invincible target to distract a Champion while everybody else pounds on them. (And if the Champion switches targets, the new target runs up and triggers the Vista.)

Unfortunately Jewelers can only refine precious metals, as far as I know, so you do have to either level Armorsmithing or Weaponsmithing, or just buy the Ingots you need. On the bright side, however, Iron Ingots are fairly cheap, so it shouldn’t be a problem to just buy a few.

Underwater Fighting

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

My Trident playstyle is very similar to my Staff playstyle; let enemies come to you, drop a ton of AoE spells on them, retreat (+ snare if necessary) and repeat. Underwater, I usually just stick to Air Attunement and spam the #1 skill. It does amazingly good damage at point blank range if all three bolts hit the target. If you must face multiple enemies, enter combat with Fire first and drop skill 3 (the boiling bubbles one) on yourself, then switch to Air and spam 1 + 2 for greater AoE damage. I often supplement this with Arcane Wave (which still works underwater), and the resulting carnage can usually decimate normal enemies without much effort.

If things get too hot, use the Air Bubble skill to float your target, then retreat. Switch to Fire and use skill 5 (Lava Chains) if they’re persistent or speedy and can catch up to you.

I sympathise for the people who dropped lots of gold on Precursors before the Lost Shores, but this is always the risk of being an early adopter, especially if you’re buying as an investment rather than for personal use. You could profit from it, but you’re just as likely to get burned depending on whether ANet makes the item in question easier to achieve.

Since you bought your Precursor for the Moot, consider it a mark of personal pride that you “earned” your Legendary the hard way. I did the same thing for my Paragon back in GW1 where I earned his Legendary Survivor back in the days when dying once meant the title was forever unattainable on that character.

Given that Oceanic players were unable to participate in the Lost Shores finale, is Arenanet planning to allow us to join in future “one-time-only” events?

Sorry – I was under the impression that were were able to participate (I am Oceanic based also) however we just needed to identify which was of greater importance to us – sleeping and working, or taking some time off to play the game.

Sounds like sleeping and working was your decision, shame it is so hard to accept the decision you made.

Keep in mind that a lot of Asia/Oceanic players made that decision under the assumption that the reward for attending the one-time event would be something similar to Mad King Thorn’s appearance in LA; you get a special commerative hat that says “I was there!” and doesn’t provide any real benefit. Waking up or coming back from work to find out that you missed out on a 20 slot bag, an extra-powerful level 80 Exotic accessory, and two chances to get a Precursor hurts. A lot.

And just to clarify that I’m not some person angry over missing out, I’m saying this as someone who made the decision to wake up extra early and attend the event too. That doesn’t make it any less unfair for people from our region.

So yes, I would like to echo Galen’s question. “Will ANet look at adjusting their schedules or setups for future one-time events so that players from all timezones have a fair chance to participate?”

The Inquest shield you’ve linked looks exactly like the Diamond Aegis skin. That skin is only available in PvE for players who’ve gained a certain amount of points in the Hall of Monuments in GW1.

From the icon, the Valley Shield appears to be the Krytan skin. It’s a fairly cheap, low-level drop, so finding one to transmute shouldn’t be a problem.

I have no idea where to find the Tall Shield skin, but I’d love to know myself. It was one of my favourite shield skins for my Warrior in GW1.

It’s actually not that hard to gain levels in this game. Especially at earlier levels, you can typically gain a level for about every 1 hour of play. Completing a Dynamic Event gives you about 10% of the XP needed to gain a level, while all the activities necessary to complete a Daily nets you about 70% of the XP to gain a level. Using consumables and then killing monsters in out-of-the-way areas is also a great way to gain XP.

Zaxares.5419

I am just disheartened by the lack of roleplayers that I see in public places.

If anything, I remember in the development of the game that there was talk of having stages for the community to host their own plays, shows, etc. Perhaps just having more “things” to bring the community together would be what we need… Something besides the tavern-talks.

Taverns are usually the place to go for RP. There’s just too much that can go wrong in other areas; wandering monsters, dynamic events, bot trains etc. Also, it seems that most dedicated RPers have joined RP guilds and thus usually only RP with those people. Occasionally I will still see some people roleplaying in the middle of a map, and sometimes I join in if it’s appropriate, but most of the time I tend to feel like I’m intruding. (There’s been a few times where they actually told me to get lost because it was a “private RP”.)

Supported! I like this idea very much too. If ANet still wants to tie the system to Transmutation Stones so as not to jar the economy too much, they can make it so that you need to pay Transmutation Stones to an NPC in order to apply a new look to your current armor.

Feeling Isolated- No Offical Roleplay Server

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

That’s a very valid point.
I can take off map chat, and try to ignore the pink Norns, but in the end, I don’t know which is worse: A few griefers, or quite a few non-roleplayers, (Not too sure what else to call them).

I personally find griefing to be a very rare instance, while non-roleplayers are a constant annoyance, but I see where you are coming from.
If there were to be stricter policies about conduct on the RP server, like was shown with the infamous karma weapon exploit, I think it could work out well.
Again, I think this is heavily dependent on how serious ArenaNet would take it, but you make a really good argument. Still, however, I’d like a designated RP server, and I’d like to take my chances with rare griefers that can be openly reported rather than open forum of anything and everything, where griefers cannot be reported for being rude.

Apologies if I misread your post as overly hostile when you didn’t mean them to be. It’s always difficult to understand a person’s individual inflection through text alone.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think it’s extremely unlikely that we’ll ever get a dedicated RP server for all the reasons I mentioned. I don’t do that much RP myself (too much stuff to do in-game otherwise!), but I try not to do anything that would ruin the RP experiences for people I do see around me. I don’t use OOC speech in Say, jump on tables they’re sitting at and start dancing, cast spells in the area, or lure monsters to them. One time I did accidentally trigger an event near a group of roleplayers which ended up drawing them into the fight, but in my defense I had no idea that simply walking close to the NPC would make them go hostile.

If anything, my impression of the community on Tarnished Coast has been overwhelmingly positive so far. Even those who don’t RP are usually very considerate and tolerant of those who do, a welcome change from other games where if you try to RP in an area, somebody will usually try to spoil your fun.

And I think that apology was directed to someone else.

Feeling Isolated- No Offical Roleplay Server

in Suggestions

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Unfortunately, even the RP community usually can’t decide on where the line should be drawn. Some of us (like me) are OK with OOC conversations going on in Map chat, and we even find it convenient to be alerted when events are up, when people are looking for groups etc. Others might on the extreme end of the RP spectrum and get upset when any sort of OOC talk shows up at all, even if it’s appended with (()), believing that any OOC topics should be addressed only in whispers. Yet more will fall somewhere in between.

And even if that’s resolved, there’s still sticky issues like the content of RP. Suppose you have a player who wants to roleplay a racist Charr, and goes around being snide and rude to all Human players he meets. It’s completely in character, and the player may be careful not to go overboard, but I can guarantee that somebody will inevitably take offence for real and report them and/or get their friends/guildies in on the action.

Then there’s also the Lore problems. A good example are the Sylvari. You have players who are roleplaying themselves as Secondborn, or a member of the Nightmare Court, or a Sylvari that is otherwise completely disconnected from the events of their Personal Story. Most RP’ers are fine with this, but there will inevitably be some who insist that a Sylvari character must at least adhere to the spirit of their Personal Story, which means no Secondborn, Nightmare Court or elder Sylvari.

And let’s not even mention the players who create characters that are clearly taken from other fantasy settings. :P (The other day I saw a character who obviously made their character to look exactly like a D&D drow, complete with a female drow name and a Black Widow spider pet. Completely lore-breaking, but I have to admire the effort they put into it!)

With such variance in the RP community, trying to have an official RP server means that you’d need somebody in charge of it all, which means rules need to be laid down, and not everybody will agree with those rules. It will just end up being a mess and result in a lot of hurt and angry players. I’d rather stick with an unofficial server and let the RP community form their own smaller groups within it.

Karka Champion and the rich Ori node

Veterans and Champions are supposed to have better chances to drop Rares (maybe Exotics? I don’t have any characters in that level range yet), so presumably the chance to get those is the reward in itself for beating down Champions. A guaranteed Rare with a possible chance for an Exotic would be a surefire way of getting people to tackle Champions though. Veterans could drop guaranteed Masterworks with a chance for a Rare. (Obviously this would need to be scaled down for Vets and Champions in lower level areas.)

Give it some time. Prices are currently skyrocketing due to the introduction of Ascended tier items (and for the record, I disapprove of their introduction) and the greater availability of Precursors which means more people are trying to forge their Legendaries. There’s a huge glut of players trying to buy T6 fine mats as a result, but eventually this demand should ease and prices fall back accordingly.

In the meantime, why not take advantage of the market conditions and shift to farming T6 materials instead? Southsun Cove is apparently a great place to farm Vials of Powerful Blood as the karka drop them with regularity.

I’d also consider stocking up on basic crafting mats too. Ascended weapons and armor will be coming out in future updates, and I have a strong suspicion you’ll need things like Gossamer/Ancient/Orichalcum components to craft them.

Actually, to get a Legendary you DO need to fully explore Tyria in order to obtain the Gift of Exploration. Finally, you need a ton of Obsidian Shards, which are Account Bound and only obtainable via karma and, more recently, the Fractals dungeon. You can’t buy a Legendary through pure TP activities.

Did the recent patch that fixed Death Nova also make it so that Jagged Horrors trigger Death Nova on death? If so, they may be worth it for the free Poison fields popping up regularly, at least in PvE. I presume in PvP players would be smart enough to dodge out of the fields at once.
