The other races say lame stuff when they get confused, like “what’s going on?” “what’s happening?”. boring. But then norn. “How many ales have I had?” Awesome. I love it.
I dunno. The way my female Sylvari goes, “Woah… What’s happening?” is just so hilarious. XD The Norn’s “how many ales have I had?” is funny too though. Male Charr’s is kind of boring, “I can’t remember my orders!”
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Asura or Human ones yet.
Both races have their atrocities. But the charr never ‘treated the humans like cattle.’
That first bit is undoubtedly true. We did skin Charr and wear their skins as armor in GW1, after all. And I wouldn’t have put it past the Ascalonian army to have slaughtered any wounded Charr they found on the battlefield.
However, the Charr in GW1 did also organise barbaric death matches where unarmed humans were pitted against giant siege devourers, the equivalent of putting a rabbit into a hungry lion’s cage, just so they can laugh while the poor creature is eaten alive. Charr of the day really did not view humans as being much better than overly intelligent meat animals.
Times have changed now, and while modern Charr still love war and violence, it also seems that they would have regarded the activities of their ancestors as crude and excessive, the same way we look back on our own ancestors who practised animal sacrifice and slavery with disgust.
I’m seriously thinking Asura are not mammals. They may be ovo-viviparous or histotrophic viviparous.
That is entirely possible. In a world with fantastical creatures that can petrify you with their gaze or that are far too huge to realistically support their own body weight, who’s to say that Asura aren’t part of a new type of Order that is warm-blooded, has hair, but are ovo-viviparous?

I have a pretty exacting play style that usually doesn’t mesh well with others. Typically I will go to a Heart, explore all of the surrounding map around the Heart (including POI’s, Skill Challenges and Vistas) while killing all hostile creatures in the area, gather up all available resources, and then go back and do the Heart if still necessary. If a DE pops up while I’m doing the above, I do it. Then I move on to the next Heart and repeat.
Most players I’ve seen tend to follow DE’s across the map, going out of their way only to harvest resources they need, and waypointing whenever somebody calls out that a popular DE is up. Since I only do DE’s if I’m in the nearby area, that often means that my party is quickly broken up, and people usually don’t understand when I say that I don’t want to WP halfway across the map just to do a DE.
As such, I only group up if there’s a real need to do so, like going into a dungeon or in crazy events like the Lost Shores finale where it was impossible to gain any kill credit on your own.
Same. Although it would make better financial sense to sell all my unid dyes at their current price, I want to at least get a good spread of colours on my characters so I can at least know what colours look like on armor before deciding what to buy. When it gets to the stage where I’m getting duplicates every 1 out of 2 dyes, then I’ll change strategies and start selling.
Were Ascended items the same in statistics as Exotic items, I would have said no, as their sole desirability would have been for appearance and Agony resistance. However, given that Ascended rings are the “best tier”, I do support making them tradeable so players that have an excess of unwanted rings can sell them to players who haven’t had any luck or just don’t like doing dungeons.
Probably just RNG. I haven’t noticed any significant change in dye drops over the last few days.
Yes, the Total Makeover Kit will let you change your ears as well.
And just so you know, the Self Hairstyle Kit will ALSO let you change your ears, as weird as that may sound. (That’s because ears on Asura and Sylvari are the same marker as facial hair for humans and Norn and horns for Charr.) So if all you’re wanting is to change your ears, you can save money by just buying the Hairstyle Kit instead.
Ascalon also used to have great aquaducts crossing the land, similar to the Romans. You can still see the ruins of some of them in GW2.
Just ran into a helpful bug while doing “Protect the ranchers from bandits” in Queensdale: four of the ranchers bunched up close together near the farmhouse instead of being out in the field, which made it much easier to protect them.
The funniest “bug” I’ve ever seen was when we managed to pull the Champion Cave Troll to the ranch and he easily crushed all the Bandit waves attacking the ranch.
I saw that last night too, and like you I don’t remember her being there before, but I could have been mistaken. Hopefully it’s a way of ANet making it easier for single players to complete Group Events if there’s nobody else around.
I’ve managed to get 9 logs out of a tree before. It just didn’t want to be chopped down. I felt kinda bad when it finally fell.
The TP cut is the price you have to pay for 100% safe trading. ANet has not indicated that they are ever going to introduce direct player-to-player trading into GW2 (and honestly, even with the way things were set up in GW1 people still managed to get scammed anyway), so if you really don’t want to pay the 15% tax, then you’ll just have to take the risk.
And honestly? If I was the buyer I’d never send you the money first either. :P For all I know YOU could just take my money and run too.
Why is everyone so keen on skritts? Ugh I can’t stand looking on a rat’s tail all day when playing GW2 as a skritt *barfs
Hey, if we can tolerate looking at a Charr’s tail all day, Skritt won’t be any different.
And skritt are just adorable little scamps! “Point for me!”
I think Eveningstar’s response is right on the money (badum-tish!) Sometimes people who come to help are just people who happened to be in the area; for instance, I will help out if I happen to be near the area, but otherwise I only waypoint for a DE if it’s something that I really, really don’t want to miss.
It’s possible that the umbilical cord is attached to a different location for Asura. (Maybe their heads? You need lots of blood going to those massive brains, after all. XD)
Not all mammals have obvious mammary glands either. Female asura might have flat nipples that aren’t readily obvious. (The fact that female asura have a “bra” for their underwear suggests that they do have them, but they’re almost impossible to notice under clothing.)
Is the the enemy at the end of the Assault on Svanir’s Dome quest? I’ve never tried to solo that guy, although I have solo’ed the Svanir Packmaster and almost managed to solo the Svanir Shaman before more players showed up.
I don’t mind increasing the level cap in subsequent expansions (or expansion-like content updates), but I think to avoid causing unnecessary grief and balance issues, power level for WvW/sPvP should be capped at level 80. Items can likewise also stop gaining in power at level 80, meaning that there is no real difference between a character at level 80 and a character at level 100 other than the fact that a level 100 would have more traits.
If not, ANet should automatically buff top-tier items like Ascended and maybe high-end Exotics like T3 Culturals so they automatically get scaled to the new top-level items. (I’m leaving Legendaries out of this since ANet has stated they will always remain BiS.) Of course, this doesn’t rule out people wanting to farm/craft new items so they can have the newest skins; I believe this is only fair enough and isn’t a departure from the way people adopted new skins in GW1.
It’s a fairly simple matter to make activities like Keg Brawl popular. ANet just needs to give it Karma and Glory as a reward, making it an alternative for PvP’ers or and PvE’ers alike to gain a currency they want.
I hadn’t noticed a lot of those activities the OP found though, only the major ones like the Busted Flagon bar brawl, the Shooting Range, Polymock and the Moa Races and Pet Arena in LA.
Dearest Toymaker Tixx,
Please send us a wonderful, joyous event where all the boys and girls can play together regardless of when they can play and what level they may be.
Please let these magical experiences happen more than just once so that they can be shared with all those we hold dear and no poor soul feels abandoned and alone.
Please create an occasion that embraces the spirit of giving, rewarding the simple joy of seeing others made happy through mutual generosity, not avarice, where activities are progressed by actively helping others, and everyone benefits equally. And an elf costume. With bells.
Thank you.
^ This. But only if it’s a sexy elf costume.
I wonder if Charr could/would eat Harpy flesh? There seems to be no shortage of them. Their ‘matriarch’ must be a very busy lady…
Harpies may be sequential hermaphrodites, similar to clownfish. All harpies are born (hatched?) as female, but when they reach maturity, one or more of them change sex to male. Heck, maybe the “matriarch” is actually the sole male of a colony and breeds with all the remaining females.
I seem to recall a Charr NPC once saying that the worst thing she ever ate was roast harpy. “Like chicken coated in sewage”, I think her words were. It might have been at the Ashford Forum.
I have a Human, Norn, Asura, Charr and Sylvari. I love them all. <3 I eagerly await the opportunity to add a Tengu, Skritt and Naga to my family.
Then of course, receiving a great boon for my devotion to the true Charr god, Abbadon.
A Charr Margonite would be quite interesting to see.
I seem to recall an Asura in Metrica Province claiming that the world’s highest concentration of intelligence could be found there, gradually diminishing as one went further out into the world, “until you reach the Black Citadel, where no measurable intelligence can be found.”
It probably depends on the exact drug involved. Drugs that helped to dull pain or increase ferocity might even be encouraged while on the battlefield.
Alas, the Asura will all be destroyed by the Great Golem Uprising of 1997 AE, leaving Rata Sum in ruins, so enjoy your empire while it lasts, my dimunitive friends!
Until we lead the Golems through the Asuran gates into Divinity’s Reach of course.
Please do. Us Charr are wiling to help you out, if you give us the Claw of Khan-Ur, and kill the monarch with us. BFFs?
… You guys already HAVE the Claw of Khan-Ur. Queen Jennah gave it to Smodur the Unflinching as part of the peace treaty.
She hasn’t yet. She says she will, but she hasn’t done so yet. Why do you think we’re still fighting the Flame Legion and haven’t got a clear leader yet? If we had it, the only real problems we’d have were the ghosts, because we would have crushed the Flame legion with the full support of all the other High Legions, and chances are, though slim, that the Flame Legion could come back from exile if someone got the Claw.
Well, that contradicts what is said on the Wiki, which is that it now “hangs within the Imperator’s Core within the Black Citadel.” Can somebody who’s read Ghosts of Ascalon confirm whether this is actually the case?
My understanding was that Smodur does have the Claw, but he hasn’t attempted to claim the title of Khan-Ur for himself because he knows the Imperators of the Blood and Ash Legions would immediately contest him for it if he did. That runs the risk of plunging the Charr back into another civil war, which is why he’s holding off.
Also, as said above by another poster, there would have to be a baseline or ruleset on what is and what is not allowed as far as roleplay goes. In Second Life this was made easy by the fact that every roleplay sim was owned and managed by a player. They paid the rent on the roleplaysim and also made the rules. People not abiding by those rules could just be removed. Let me also mention that there were quite a few of those rp-sims, just because people couldnt agree on much of anything at all. Everyone had a different opinion on what was considered good/bad roleplay.
In GW2 however that isnt an option, so if i decide i want to roleplay as darth vader reincarnated as a busty norn lass, nobody is going to be able to stop me as long as im roleplaying, unless Anet sets up a specific set of rules for roleplay.
I’m probably the player you were referencing.
There was actually another thread I saw just yesterday which provided a clear example on why dedicated RP servers are usually a headache to police. In it, the OP laid out his baseline idea for his guild, which was similar to a missionary guild for a “long-lost” 7th god trapped in the Mists. The more people that worshipped this god, the more power they gained and the sooner the god would be able to return to the world.
Trouble is, this basically goes against the lore of the GW2 game world, which is that there are only 6 gods. (Maaaaaybe there are other gods out there, but we can’t pre-empt ANet by creating our own gods.) So then you’d have players who are arguing against this guild and saying that their roleplay is flawed and lore-breaking. An ANet rep would have to step in and make a ruling, which I imagine would be that this 7th god does not exist, essentially destroying the whole premise of the guy’s roleplaying guild (unless they were willing to roleplay their characters are basically deluded charlatans worshipping a false god, which judging by the guy’s post, is not what he wanted).
What usually happens in these cases is that the devs will merge several low-pop servers together (makes economical sense from their side too, as it means less servers to maintain and update). However, it could be anywhere from 6 months to a year before this happens, and I imagine your players do not want to be trapped in a nearly dead server for that long.
I agree with either of the OP’s suggestions, but leaning more towards #2. It just doesn’t make sense to me that something so expensive is only a Rare set. If Cultural armor was a set of skins that you apply to existing armor, fine, I can accept that, because it doesn’t then create an additional set of armor in your pack. But as it is, Cultural armor is basically saying, “Grind 120g for appearance, and THEN go and grind some more to get an Exotic set so you can transmute it onto decent high-end gear”.
It makes even less sense when you consider that Ascended items will be coming out in the future too, unless ANet has plans to upgrade T2 culturals to Exotic and T3 culturals to Ascended items.
Dear Toymaker Tixx,
I want your massive airship toy workshop. This is not a request, if you wish to see your toy shop krewe again.
Sincerely,
Krushak Doomblade, Blood Legion, 43rd Cohort, 7th Maniple.
But, I did come across a ranch in game that boasted it’s very own cattle launcher. The charr are activly involved in a perpetual war with ghost wich requires alot of energy. and the flame legion is causing alot of trouble. So, there doesn’t seem to be any present danger of a food shortage wich may imply that there is plenty of grazing land and grazing cattle.
Well, there are Deer, Dolyaks, Moas, Barracuda etc. that magically appear every 30 seconds, providing an endless supply of red/poultry/fish meat.
Fortunately my female Sylvari necromancer outsources all the hits to her minions, so while I do hear the noise occasionally, I think it cute more than annoying.
Charr doesn’t need agriculture. Plenty of references to cow herds, and I imagine they also have sheep and other grazing animals. Animals can graze in a wasteland like Ascalon as even under the worst circumstances, some plants adapt and start growing there. This means the production is localized instead of distant.
But they can’t match the same food surplus as the one generated by agriculture. That’s the point. Agriculture is just much more efficient and can supply far more food. Finally, if they want to truly grow and advance, they will need agriculture to produce food for their cattle at industrial scale. The more urbanized and industrialized the Charr become, the more vulnerable they will be to starvation unless they change their current model. Herding is just not good enough. In fact, in the Real World, there was a real fear that the Industrial Revolution would create massive famines before artificial fertilizers and mechanized agriculture were invented.
That’s probably the biggest thing holding back the Charr; lack of a food surplus. Charr are obligate carnivores, although I expect that they can still eat small amounts of plant matter without gaining any benefit from it apart from taste. (They do seem to favour a lot of spices in their dishes, for one thing.) They may be able to store meat using magic to power refridgeration devices, although I’ve never seen any evidence of long-term food storage in any Charr areas. This means that all Charr cities must have a ready supply of fresh meat available nearby, which drastically hampers expansion.
From what I’ve seen, Charr secure their food primarily through ranching and fishing, and supplemented by hunting. They probably maintain agricultural zones in order to grow feed for their herds; although it might be cheaper to simply buy feed from other races, the Charr probably do not like being dependent on another race to maintain their food security.
It is in the works, that’s all we know at this point. I know waiting sucks, but we just have to be patient at this point.
Yeah, it seems that something is causing the Secrets meta-event to break on some servers. Until ANet tracks down the source of the issue and fixes it, the best advice I can give to people who are having trouble getting him to spawn is to wait for a server reset, then head to Godslost Swamp and hang around there for the next few hours until he does spawn.
The only thing you really need to grind to get a legendary is KARMA. I think if you have done EVERY event in the game and every fractal once, you still wouln’t be close to 1mio. Having to do the same things over and over again to get the karma is pure grind and imo the only thing that is wrong with how legendaries are made. The addition of liquid karma was great, but i think you still need to much karma for the shards.
I don’t know about this. I’ve been playing the game since release, and despite only doing Dailies (haven’t completed any Monthlies since I haven’t done WvW yet), I’ve already amassed 30+ Jugs of Karma and some Drops of Liquid Karma as well. If I were to use a Karma booster, the Guild +15% bonus and the +5% Guild banner before slugging them all down, that’s more than 230,000 karma gained. People who have been completing Monthlies as well could probably gain close to 500,000 karma, and that’s only been one month since the Jugs were released.
If Legendaries are meant to be an item one earns over a few years of play, they’d have more than enough karma to get a Legendary (yes, even including the Clovers gamble) by the end of just 3 months of regular play.
If you’re still after Vanilla Beans (maybe you’re a recipe completionist like me), you can gather them yourself from Herb Seedlings in Metrica Province and Caledon Forest. They seem to drop with high regularity (about 40 – 50% of the time) there.
Huh… That’s probably a bug if that’s true. Have you tried putting Bolt up on the TP itself?
Nope. But on the bright side, Ancient Karka Shells are account-bound, so you can simply give it to another of your characters.
I’m fully expecting ANet to upgrade some of these ultra-rare Exotics to Ascended status in the future.
This reminds me of something I was puzzling over with regards to the Mists and Worlds. Since each server (Fort Aspenwood, Tarnished Coast, Blacktide etc.) is akin to a separate world, with each of these worlds battling in the Mists for domination and (presumably) the Favour of the Gods, is each World essentially a clone universe of each other?
By that extension, does that mean that there are actually infinite copies of Primordus/Jormag/Zhaitan, but only one of each god? If so, considering how powerful the Elder Dragons are, what would happen if 2, 10, or 100 Jormags were to travel to the Mists and assault the gods themselves?
Probably which tengu heritage they come from (Caromi, Avicara, Quetzal, Angchu or Sensali, which determine their starting headgear), which Wind order they follow (North, South, East, West), and a personal issue for the character (which will determine their level 1 – 20 personal quests).
This isnt too difficult as critters (rabbids, birds) are also accountable for this to be achieved. I can pull it of moving between two zones.
To add to this, critters can count towards different enemy types. I’m not sure which category mammal critters like rabbits and racoons count towards, but hawks/owls/etc. count towards the Raptor category, mosquitoes/sparkflies count towards the Insect category, while crabs count towards the Shell category. Not sure which category frogs count towards.
I like the Kill Variety goal, and I find it pretty easy to keep a mental tally of which types you’ve killed, but I wouldn’t be against a kill variety counter that keeps track of which varieties you’ve already tagged. After a while you become familiar with which enemies fall into which categories, and it’s just a matter of running around a big enough segment of the map to different enemy spawns. (This is harder to do in Orr though, I hear.)
I’m seriously considering this trait, however I’m very wary that it will inadvertantly make pulling that much harder due to the risk of arrows flying through targets and hitting some other mob in the distance, possibly drawing 2 or more enemies into the fight.
I agree that I’d love it if all of our minions regenerated health outside of combat. It’s very annoying to have to go into fights with half of our army near death, knowing they’d just get popped before they even close the distance to fight.

I don’t like the word “toon” either, but it’s not really enough for me to get angry over. Now if somebody tried to stop me calling my characters “characters” and call them toons instead, THEN I’d take them to task. :P
I admit I do miss my healing Monk from GW1, although I can still satisfy my healing urges in GW2 from time to time by switching to Water on my Elementalist and tossing Geysers, Healing Rains and Ice Storms into the fray while watching my allies use Bursts and Leaps to create healing booms everywhere.
