Not to mention that Metal is also used by Weaponsmiths, Huntsmen, Artificers and Jewelers.
“Point for me!”
Thanks for the update, Colin.
Since people are posting lists of what they hope will be in the coming updates, here’s my wish-list:
1. Guesting
2. Guild Halls (and with the introduction of guild halls, guild services can now be accessed across different servers)
3. Guild bonuses applying to all members regardless of which server they’re on.
4. New recipes to upgrade existing Exotic items to Ascended quality
5. Preview items on the Trading Post
6. A buff to T3 Cultural armor to make it Exotic, as well as the option to purchase it via Karma.
7. Elimination/reduction of the Waypoint Travel Fee (this could be facilitated by purchasing a special token from the gem store)
8. Adjustment of rewards from Veteran/Champion enemies. Depending on their level/region, such enemies should always drop Rares/Exotics, particularly if there is no reward chest for completing a Dynamic Event associated with them.
9. An “Armor Wardrobe” similar to the Festival Hat Maker in GW1 where players can show an NPC an armor set they are wearing (it must be the complete set), and then subsequently can apply the skin to any armor set they are wearing. The NPC charges a Transmutation Stone(s) each time the player wants to apply a new appearance, so this won’t make the Stones obsolete.
10. The ability to replay Story missions, allowing friends/guildies to experience story arcs they didn’t see themselves because they made different choices.
11. Story mode dungeon arcs rewarding tokens for completion (but at a lower rate than Explorable modes)
The Precursor Scavenger Hunt goes without saying.
Pretty crap to say your a paying customer yet have to pay further to keep using your purchase as you upgrade your armour.
I purchased the Primeval armour at launch. Its been sat in my bank since that day. I’ll use it one day when I find armour worth using it on.
That’s why I would love to see an “armor wardrobe” introduced, similar to the Festival Hat Maker from GW1, where you can unlock appearances by showing the NPC an armor set you’re currently wearing (and it must be the complete set, not merely one piece of the set). After being unlocked, you can freely apply the unlocked skin to any armor set you’re currently wearing, although the NPC will charge you a Transmutation Stone(s) each time you apply a new skin.
The armor wardrobe would be account-wide, but certain restrictions may still apply (you cannot wear Cultural or Order armors that you don’t belong to, for example).
I honestly wanna see the wealth distribution of the players.
I’m deeply curious to know this too!
Everyone else seems to be voting Tengu, but I’m definitely down for Grawl. They would be sick.
I preferred the Grawl back when their vocabulary consisted purely of “Ook!” XD Their modern language and vocabulary just seems to be too refined for a race that everybody else derides as being laughably primitive and simplistic.
Key factors I watch for when deciding whether or not someone is a bot are the following:
1. They teleport to a location/enemy, mine/kill it, then immediately teleport away again. Sometimes you’ll see players appear at merchants (probably to sell loot) and disappear again. If you ever see someone mysteriously appear out of nowhere, quickly click on them and select the report option so you can see their account name. If they have some bizarre account name like “fdghjas”, you’re almost certainly dealing with a bot, so go ahead and report them. If not, observe their behaviour. If they walk/run away afterwards, they’re probably not a bot and may be a player who just happened to log in at that location.
2. Players who move around in the same general area killing enemies over and over. They can usually be distinguished from real players in that the bots will move to enemies in arrow-straight lines or run-paths, instead of taking more direct routes such as jumping up or down cliffs, and once an enemy is dead, they will immediately take off for the next enemy, not stopping to regain health or renew cooldowns. Sometimes you can see the bot rapidly change directions or backtrack (usually because whatever enemy they’ve targeted was killed by another player).
If you’re trying to complete ALL the Slayer achievements, you’re going to have an… interesting time completing the Plant and Giant ones.
I actually would have really liked it if Infusions were basically the equivalent of “enchantments”; additional powers that could be added onto existing Exotic weapons to bring them up to par with Ascended items. Maybe ANet could rework the existing system to work this way, but I’m not holding my breath.
In case no one hast suggested this in the past 5 pages (I need to go to sleep after reading the first one), how about modifiable listings without having to re-pay the listing fee?
You pay 5% of what you initially list it for, then you can lower by 1c all you want until you find a buyer. Then, you pay the 10% “hidden fee” based upon the selling price.
If it means “0.01 punks” take the price down to vendor, so be it. It will correct once the pee pee contest is over.
I like this idea.
Sensible and practical.
As someone who only uses the TP intermittently, my selling strategy depends largely on whether the item/commodity is a fast moving one. For stuff that is generally bought and sold in bulk (like crafting materials), I’m usually happy to list it at whatever the lowest seller is offering. Even if someone undercuts by 1c, the commodity moves quickly enough that my listing still sells within 24 hours.
For items that don’t move quickly, I price my item mid-way between the highest buyer and the lowest seller. This usually renders me immune to undercutters because the sellers don’t want to take such a big hit to their profits, and it also guarantees a quick sale from sharp-eyed buyers. (Whether it’s by a player who genuinely wants the item or a power trader who’s looking to re-list it doesn’t really matter to me because I don’t have a very expensive wish list. Much of the game’s truly expensive vanity items simply don’t appeal to me aesthetically, so I have much less need to stockpile gold.)
There’s an ongoing joke I have amongst friends that there’s too much sex going on in Divinity’s Reach.
On a related note, most RP tends to take place in Divinity’s Reach. Just sayin’.
Anybody know where the Noble’s sister resides? I’ve completed the second chapter of the Personal story, but I don’t see her anywhere in the Home district.
Were it up to me, I’d have re-written the story so that after Zhaitan’s death, Trahearne sacrifices/transforms himself into a new Pale Tree sprout, perhaps right atop Zhaitan’s corpse. In this form, and for the rest of his life, he will slowly cleanse Orr of its taint by reclaiming the land. That was why he dreamt about Orr being a green land again, and why the Pale Tree chose him to carry Caladbolg into battle and not the Sylvari PC. I think Trahearne’s reception by the player base would have gone a lot more smoothly if that had been the case.
My three picks would have to be:
1) Tengu – I love the Tengu culture and philosophy as it’s expressed in both GW1/2, and coupled with the fact that Tengu were originally slated to be a playable race means it’s highly likely we’ll see them next.
2) Skritt – I find the Skritt to be absolutely adorable, even when they’re trying to kill me (“Quick! Kill it!”), although the fact that they’re a Sympathy race means it’s highly unlikely they’ll become a playable race in their own right. Plus, the fact that their intelligence changes depending on how many members of their race are in close proximity means that it’ll be extremely difficult to write a story for them.
3) Krait/Naga – I’ve always loved snakes and serpentoids, and to my knowledge no MMO has ever been made which allowed you to play as a serpentoid (reptilian humanoids, yes, but no snake-like characters). There’s sufficient graphical variation between different krait and between male/female krait to allow player customisation, and their unusual body shape could allow for a lot of creative freedom for artists to design armor for them. Given their pretty unredeemable attitudes, the Krait may be out as a whole, but if we return to Cantha, we might see the introduction of a more peaceable society of Naga who banded together with other non-humans for defense following Emperor Usoku’s Purges.
Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!

I think it depends on your server. I play on Tarnished Coast (which is one of the most popular and populated servers) and I’ve never had trouble finding other people in the zones I’m in. Things do get quieter during my night times (I’m from Australia, and TC is a US server), but there’s usually still at least a handful of people around.
I imagine that ANet will soon start to merge emptier servers together. This is a normal part of an MMO’s lifetime as the population stabilises and people gravitate to more popular servers. An underflow mechanic would be undeniably awesome though.
It’s most likely that somebody observed you and your brother running the same events over and over for multiple hours, concluded that you two were bots and submitted a report. I’m not privy to how ANet checks reports to determine if they really are bots, but the length of time you guys were doing the same events over and over (I imagine most players would get bored of doing the same event chain after 2 or 3 passes), perhaps coupled with other factors like a lack of in-game chatting led them to determine that it was likely they were dealing with bots.
@Tarvok: That wouldn’t really work, since bots can be scripted to automatically reply to anyone who whispers them with some generic response like “sry, dont want to talk now”. And what about real players who get freaked out by random people messaging them and decide not to answer?
The Wonderland took me 5 tries to complete, so about 15 – 20 mins. I then farmed it once every day for the extra karma item. For comparison, the Clocktower took me 2.5 hours of trying before I finally beat it.
The Wonderland is definately a lot easier, and I think it strikes the right balance between difficulty and accessibility for the majority of players. Based on my guild’s experiences, I believe 90% of us managed to complete it, and the last 10% basically don’t like/enjoy JP’s so I think they ignored it altogether.
As Ian mentioned, Cooking and Jewelry recipes involving snowflakes are learned via Discovery. For all other disciplines, Armorsmithing/Leatherworker/Tailor, the low-level crafting recipes are learned automatically when your rank becomes high enough. Intricate/Imbued recipes could only be found from opening Gifts, so now that Wintersday is over, you need to purchase them from the TP. Fortunately, their prices basically hit rock bottom as the event progressed, so you can likely pick up each recipe for just 1c over their vendor price.
I think the number of toys spawned from each present was excessive. 2 – 3 toys should have been the limit. They’re actually no harder than standard mobs if you’re facing them one-on-one (well, OK, maybe 50% harder); it’s just that they come in such a large group, making it easy to get overwhelmed.
All the same, I have to admit that I’ll kinda miss luring toys into enemy bastions like the Bandit Camps in Brisban Wildlands and watching them massacre all the enemies for me. XD One time I saw 5 Princess Dolls almost successfully take down the Unseen Hunter!
For me, Halloween had better lore in the form of the Mad Memoires scavenger hunt. Since story and characterisation is what appeals to me most as a gamer, Halloween comes out on top in this regard.
However, Halloween (and Lost Shores) suffered from a very rushed timeframe in which players had to keep up on a daily basis or risk missing out on content. In that respect, Wintersday is 10x better and I hope it is the model ANet will keep going forward.
I am a bit disappointed that Wintersday won’t have a special day-long finale in the vein of GW1, but given the massive amount of content we’ve received so far, I’m not complaining.
For a more precise breakdown:
- Loved Wintersday Wonderland (The Clock Tower was more satisfying to beat, but the Wonderland was still fun/challenging without it becoming frustrating, which I think is a nice move for the wider player base.)
- Daily dungeons were OK. I found them a bit repetitive and think they went on longer than they needed to. 3 – 4 activities (not including Toxx) in each instance should have been sufficient. Wish you could repeat them for (diminishing) rewards of Cogs/Stuffing/Glue as well.
- Loved the Bell Choir. I’d do it more often if the drop rate of Personalised Gifts were better.
- Snowball Mayhem is OK. It’s fun for the right people, but I’m not really a PvP gamer.
- Toypocalypse could have been done better. It needs better rewards, and should be shorter. I did it once to get the achievements, then never went back. Although I earned the Toypocalypse Cancelled achievement back when you needed to save all 5 dolyaks, I appreciate ANet making it easier for others to get the achievement. (I’ll always have the satisfaction of knowing I did it the “hard way”. Whether or not other people have the achievement matters not at all to me.)
- The variety for the Wintersday rewards for Socks/Hats/Sweaters need to be looked at. Each currency should offer a wider variety of rewards. Stuffing/Glue could be some of the tradeable rewards, along with a bigger variety of Snowflakes and crafting recipes.
I got a Jug yesterday instead of my usual Gulp. I’ll see what karma item I get today before I know whether or not the rewards were buffed.
Everyone in this thread deserves a standing ovation.
I like tight fitting and mostly covering clothes and also skimpy clothes like winged.
I want to see Elite Canthan make a return. As it is the sexiest non-revealing set because it just accentuates her curves and is very tight on her body. I wore it a lot in GW1 as one of my four main sets.
Yeah, I miss the form-hugging armors of my female Assassin from GW1.
Not all Medium armor has to be shapeless, bulky trenchcoats, ANet!
Yeah, I’ve seen some people managing to use different colours in their messages. I’d like to know how it’s done too.
(Could be handy for RPs!)
In humans, hairlessness is actually a ‘negative’ trait — without a coat of hair we’re more prone to sunburn and skin injury. The common theory is that it was a mutation that early humans found attractive, and that’s the only reason why it got perpetuated in our species.
I remember reading somewhere that humans in hotter climates evolved towards hairlessness because sweating was a much more efficient method of keeping cool, and because a lack of hair made it harder for skin parasites like mites or ticks to remain hidden, allowing us to find and remove them and reduce incidences of parasitic diseases.
I think you’re worrying needlessly. If ANet’s track record is anything to go by, there will be enough skimpy and concealing outfits to satisfy both sides of the player base. I’m personally quite happy with the selection of armors as it is right now.
If the exchange rate rises to a point where 100 gems sells for 10 gold, then I’d buy some gems to convert into gold. However, this would also depend on whether or not there were actually items I wanted which I desperately needed money for. Thus far I’ve been saving up a modest amount of gold through normal play, and I expect that by the time I’m ready to start hunting for Ascended/Legendary items, my ‘income’ in-game would also be at a point where I wouldn’t need to supplement it with gem purchases.
There is a thread about this on the Bugs forum:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Secrets-in-the-Swamp-Possibly-bugged/
Basically, the devs are aware of it and they have a fix in the works that will correct the bugged events that are stopping the Behemoth from showing up. (I don’t think it will come in the 14th Dec patch though.)
Im thinking when they fix champion loot more people will be willing to do champion events/kill champions. This was something that was supposed to come with the lost shores patch.. that is, champions should always drop something. Which clearly they dont. Veteran mobs were supposed to have improved loot, but.. they dont.
Yeah, I’m not sure if that’s a bug, or whether I’m still in too low level areas for it to make a difference. Personally I would make it so that Veterans and Champions always drop valuable loot, using the following scales:
Veteran:
Level 1 – 30: Always drops a Fine item, with a 10% chance for a Masterwork item.
Level 30 – 60: Always drops a Masterwork item, with a 10% chance for a Rare item.
Level 60 – 80: Always drops a Masterwork item, with a 25% chance for a Rare item.
Champion:
Level 1 – 30: Always drops a Masterwork item, with a 10% chance for a Rare item.
Level 30 – 60: Always drops a Rare item, with a 10% chance for an Exotic item.
Level 60 – 80: Always drops a Rare item, with a 25% chance for an Exotic item.
Rare crafting materials can be substituted for Masterwork/Rare/Exotic drops. Certain level 70+ Group Event Champions, depending on their difficulty, may also have a chance to drop Precursors.
This is true. Just ask my Engineer about that night she spent drinking with that Charr Warband…she still can’t remember a darned thing. >^_~
Let’s just hope she didn’t wake up feeling sore in some… sensitive places the next morning. XD
This puzzle can be pretty buggy, but I did manage to complete the puzzle doin the following:
1. Make sure you do the LEFT cheek (from your perspective) first. Trying to do the right cheek first results in nothing happening.
2. If you’ve put all the Tears down in the right spots but nothing happens, try putting Tears onto ALL the platforms, then removing Tears until you get the right combination. (This worked for me twice when putting Tears in the correct locations failed to light the torch.)
3. If you get the bug where the patterns on one of the cheeks don’t show up, visit Youtube and search for “Tears of Itlaocol”. Apparently the solution for the puzzle is the same each time, so you can just follow the light patterns shown in the video to solve it.
I’m sorry to hear about your situation, OP. Hopefully the coming years will be easier on you.
But otherwise, I’d do as Morrigan says. If you truly aren’t going to be using the account anymore, just give your login details to your stepson and effectively “hand over the reins”. As long as he’s playing from the same network and location as you, there shouldn’t be any problems. Get him to request a change of e-mail address through Support, delete your CC info from the account (if appropriate), and that should pretty much tie up everything.
Not sure about conditions, but I’m pretty sure boons don’t. I remember tossing Healing Rain on somebody who was downed and it didn’t seem to be giving them Regeneration.
Also, will there ever be an option to just delete an authorized network from our list on our own?
That would be a really helpful control to have. Redundant authorized networks could become a liability. Esp. if you are one of those people who were hacked and still have the hacker’s network authorized on your account.
You should just be able to go into the security tab and find a delete button against each authorized network.
Unfortunately it could also work the other way. The hackers could gain access to your account, then log in here and delete YOUR network from the authorised list. It’d be too risky to have that functionality available without some additional checks.
Wait…. you can only get mistfire wolf with Digital Deluxe?
What’s my motivation for this when there’s hounds of balthazar?
The two elite skills have similar, but different effects. The Mistfire Wolf on its own has about double the health of a single Hound of Balthazar, deals more damage with its base attacks, inflicts Burning AND Chilled on each attack, and has an AoE DoT attack which also inflicts Burning/Chilled.
The Hounds have half the health of the Wolf, do not inflict Chilled, and do not have an AoE attack. However, since there’s two of them, they do inflict slightly more DPS than the Wolf, and if one gets CC’ed or killed, you still have a second one.
Basically, the Wolf is better if you’re running a build that focuses around conditions, or if you need to deal more AoE damage quickly, but the Hounds are better if you need more allies to tank.
There we go. Mystery solved!
It’s a bit tricky to say whether Charr evolved horns as an offensive or defensive measure, because of the wide variety that their horns can come in. Some horns, like forward-facing bull horns, are shaped that their function would be purely offensive (used for goring), but others like the oryx horns have more of a defensive function, and are used to protect the neck from attacks.
It may be that Charr originally consisted of dozens of sub-species, each with their own shape/style of horns, but all of them have interbred to the point where sub-species became irrelevant.
I’m a bit surprised nobody’s named their Asura “Mr Bigg” yet. XD (Or maybe somebody already has. Haven’t checked!)
Could you maybe have typed in the wrong password, several times? (It happens!)
I’m sure a more detailed post about what exactly was fixed/changed will be released soon. Be patient.
“I feel…. STRONG!”
dead
Heh, that reminds me of the time I faced Horace on my female Norn Ranger.
“Nothing can bring me down!”

Try right-clicking on their name and quickly selecting Whisper. I think you can report somebody from their name in the chat bar too.
Yeah, I would classify Canine pets as being offensive and Drakes as defensive. Canines tend to have snares and CC skills, while Drakes as a whole have higher Toughness and Vitality, although not as much as Bears. If their other pet skills worked, they’d also be able to tank more effectively thanks to Chomp (self-heal) and Tail Swipe (AoE launch with a charge-up, so it’s not very useful offensively, but very handy when there’s a bunch of mobs pounding on it).
Ice Drake (tanking, plus I like the way they look) and Lakittenail Devourer (ranged and bleed stacks) for land, Armored Fish (tanking) and Rainbow Jellyfish (AoE damage and heals) underwater.
You can access Councillor Flax’s lab as part of the Infinity Ball Personal Storyline, I believe, but only if you pick the mission leading to it.
They already said mats from the Halloween event (ie candy corn) are part of the new recipes for this x-mas event..
That’s not how I interpreted what they said… I could be wrong, but I believe there will be new materials that drop while taking part in the holiday events.
Yeah, I interpreted it as “Yes, there will be new recipes for Wintersday. They use ONLY new mats dropped during Wintersday.”
That said, I think they probably will still use incidental ordinary mats, just not as much as Halloween’s recipes did.
Legged creatures can cross terrain that wheeled or tracked vehicles would find impassable, such as through extremely rough terrain or up hills or mountains. (Not to mention that devourers can swim.
) Drottot Lakittenail in Plains of Ascalon makes it clear that the Charr still use war beasts, so while Siege Devourers may have declined in popularity with the invention of steam tanks and other vehicles, it’s a safe bet that they still form part of the Charr war machine.
Krait Witch in Caledon Forest.
“OK, I know this kitten hits hard, but this is my Warrior! I’ve facerolled through everything else on the map. I’m sure I can take her solo!”
No. No, he could not.
The sender was also Des Oto. Not sure how how they find peoples account names.
They probably come here. After all, our account names are displayed right next to our posts.
