I think it’s a little soon to start making references to a freshly killed franchise.
Killed? Has Capcom closed the Megaman franchise? That’s news to me, mostly because I haven’t followed the console game industry for years now.
Might vary for different races, but my Ele is an Asura and I just LOVE the stuff he shouts when he switches attunements.
“I have ignition!”
“Severe weather warning!”
“Cleansing will now begin!” <- Favourite
“Rocks and stones will break your bones!”
It’s OK. We’ll dispatch M.O.X., a plucky, sympathetic golem prototype who was discovered sealed in an underground test chamber, to destroy the rebellious golems. Despite being more than 250 years old, M.O.X. is perfectly capable of standing up to today’s generation of golems due to possessing a unique capability to absorb and repurpose the powers of golems he destroys.
One by one, he will journey to their strongholds to challenge and defeat the rebellious golems, and upon defeating the last one, he’ll discover that Councilor Yahk is the one who has secretly corrupted all the rebellious golems, and then confront Yahk (who’s wearing a Super-Golem prototype suit) in a climatic showdown in the heart of the Crucible of Eternity!
(( I can’t believe ANet hasn’t made a sub-plot along these lines already! ))
If you include the 3 day headstart, that’s 900 hours divided by 80 days, which works out to about 11.2 hours per day. So, not that high, but still an incredible amount of time invested into the game.
Eles are pretty squishy (only my Mesmer seems to be squishier), but it gets easier once you hit level 30 and can learn Glyph of Elementals. Switch to either Earth or Water before starting combat and summon it; the Earth Elemental is a sturdy tank, and the Ice Elemental’s AoE heals is usually enough to tip battles in your favour, especially since enemies seem to like attacking summons before you.
Personally, I would like for Tier 3 Cultural armor to be either:
1. Cut to 50g for a whole set
OR
2. Buff it to Exotic status, and keep its current price. (Maybe reducing it to a flat 100g)
While it’s obviously intended to be a gold sink, I do think either of these changes would enable it to keep its function while still giving greater value to players.
I wonder if it’s possible to fall down the server rankings so much that you end up competing against servers who are just full of bots farming in PvE/totally apathetic to WvW that you basically steamroll the non-existent opposition every single time…
My most common source of dyes is from harvesting plants, for some odd reason.
I’m Australian and play on Tarnished Coast (a US server), which means that my weekday nights tend to be pretty quiet. (But even so, I will typically still see a handful of players around in the low-level zones.) However, if you hop on during the weekend, it’s always buzzing with activity, especially if you log on during the US daytime hours.
Eventually I think ANet will lift the server caps and consolidate more of the servers as technology improves and the player base stabilises, but this may still be a few months away.
Probably a dumb question, but how does one view the Combat Log in the first place?
Just an update that the dev team is aware of this issue now and is looking into it, although the fact that it’s an “edge case” (meaning that the Behemoth is working on some servers, but not on others) may mean that it takes them longer to pin down the reason for his absence.
I find that sometimes placing Tears onto ALL the platforms, then slowly removing them one by one until they match the pattern, gets past bugged situations where you place the Tears in the correct pattern but nothing happens.
Thank you for the update, Jason. Hopefully you guys will be able to nail down the source of the issue soon.
I would also like to echo munkiman’s request for more information about the precise triggers that cause the meta-event to start. It would enable us to help you guys pin down whether or not the meta-event is broken on a particular server. At the very least, you could let us know whether or not Secrets in the Swamp is meant to be an exceedingly rare DE, or whether it’s meant to spawn on the same frequency as other meta-events in starters zones, such as the Frozen Maw, Battle in Wychmire Swamp etc.
The light fades…
I personally love hearing the little combat barks, but I agree that a slider should be put in so the player can determine how often they hear their (and other’s) sounds.
Personally, I don’t think I will ever get tired of hearing my Charr yell, “FOR GREAT JUSTICE!”
If they did that, no one would have any reason to buy the keys from the Gem Store. And since people have already spent RL money to buy those keys, it would cause a kittentorm. Something like that either has to be implemented from Day 1 or not at all. Of course, putting the keys into the Gem Store in the first place was a rather bad choice. But what’s done is done.
I don’t believe so. There’s far, FAR more BLCs in the game than there are keys; during an evening of play, it’s common for me to get at least 3 or 4 BLC’s. I used/sold all of my BLC’s during Halloween, and I’m already back up to 50+ of them sitting in storage!
Furthermore, the thing about RNG items is that as long as the opportunity exists for someone to “pull the lever”, players will do it. People love the feeling of trying their luck. It’s the same reason why we love opening chests, to find out what’s inside.
So no, all this change would do is make a dent in the vast number of BLC’s currently available in the game. I’ll grant that it would upset people who already spent RL money on gems for keys, but then again, that was their decision. They could have used in-game gold to buy gems instead (and I’m speaking from the standpoint of somebody who DID buy gems with real money, although I spent them on extra bank/bag slots instead of keys).
What’s particularly unusual is that we SHOULD have seen Secrets spawn at least once since the server update a couple of days ago, since server resets fix all other bugged events like skill point NPCs being permanently dead or events not completing properly.
Really hope we can get some feedback from a dev soon.
Don’t forget that the activities across different characters count too. If you’re having trouble finding enough DE’s or enemy varieties in the area you’re in on a character, switch to another character in a different map and get it there. (The XP for completing a Daily is pretty minor, since the bulk of the XP boost is awarded while completing the activities, and you can always put the Jug of Karma back into your Bank for your main to drink.)
ANet just needs to make one change to the Dailies (and Monthlies) and I will love them forever.
Daily: Add 1 Black Lion Key to the rewards.
Monthly: Add 5 – 10 Black Lion Keys to the rewards.
They jiggle?? I hadn’t noticed. O.o Clearly I’m spending too much time staring at my female character’s rears. XD
4) 12pm PST is 3pm EST, 8pm London England. That’s a timeframe that fits Canadians, South Americans, USA, England, and everyone in-between. Even for people in Australia, that’s 7am the next day.
So, in closing: Buahahahahaha, I’m going to the event and other people aren’t. That may be mean, and I’m sorry, but the excuses that people are making about missing the event are just silly.
And for people in New Zealand, it’s 9am and their work/school day has already started. For people in SE Asia, Hong Kong etc, it’s 4 – 5am.
Being located in Australia, I can make this event by waking up at 6am and then going to work afterwards, but all we’re saying is that if one-time events are ALWAYS going to be at these times, that means that a particular segment of the GW2 population is ALWAYS going to miss out on these one-time events. That’s just unfair.
Banning bots/RMT is out of question the right thing to do but the mechanism needs a lot of improvements since many honest players have been wrongfully banned as collateral damage.
There usually will be a few innocents caught up in the sweep, but you can appeal the banning to ANet support who can check their records and unban you if it was an honest mistake.
But most of the time? People who claim to have been banned incorrectly are guilty as sin.
Hey! We didn’t mean for Palawa Joko to takeover Elona, or save the empreror so his successors could slaughter the Canthans and Kurzicks, or…or give Vizier Khilbron unimaginable power so he could turn himself into a lich, or sacrifice Kormir, or not kill Primordius while he was sleeping because we were blind, or not kill Drakkar because we thought he would remain frozen under the lake, or…
…ya…
…we did break the world.
Hahaha, priceless…
We did some goods too.
We defeated Abaddon and the lich that we helped creating.
We formed an alliance with the centaurs in elona.
We defeated Shiro and at least helped the dwarves vanquish the great destroyer.
We created the fundations of the human/norn/asura/char alliance and helped raise the pale tree.actually we had nothing to do with the pale tree, we just managed to not screw THAT one up.
So you mean all the /dancing and /sitting I did next to the Pale Tree in GW1 was for nothing?!
To be honest, that sounds more like a Dwarf name, but it’s still suitable for a Norn.
Velda Frostborn.
(Velda’s background story is that her father is a Son of Svanir, and she took up the appellation as a nod to her heritage, determined not to try and hide it from others while still seeking to forge her own legend.
That said, I wish I could change her last name now to “Grimmsdottir”, after seeing the number of Norn around with similar last names. I always liked the “dottir” portion of Nordic names.)
I like it too, LEAVE IT.. .. hey, you are playing a female .. no HUAH and UGG there .
Are you, by chance, a male?
Just wondering, because as a real-life female, I can vouch that we don’t necessarily make dainty and delicate sounds when we’re engaging in physical activity or when we get hurt. Women are capable of grunting and bellowing too.
Undubitably true. But it doesn’t stop me from laughing every time I watch Serena Williams or some other top-seeded female tennis player play a match. It just sounds so hilarious! I’d rather have the squeaks for my female Mesmer.
Magic is mainly distrusted by Charr because most magic users tend to belong to the Flame Legion, which was almost entirely made of magic wielders in the past (during the events of GW1). In a kind of catch-22 situation, the Flame Legion today tends to recruit from the ranks of other magic using Charr, who are occasionally enticed because other Charr regard them with suspicion and hostility since they may “end up joining the Flame Legion”.
Despite this, magic users do find roles in the other three Legions. The Ash Legion in particular seems to have a fair number of Necromancers, and regardless of which Legion you choose for your Charr character, you start out with an Elementalist in your warband.
I heard my charr say “Did you see that? Tell me you saw that” for the first time today.
This is when you use a combo.
That explains why I never hear it. My Charr’s a Warrior and it’s just about impossible to pull off combos on them.
Here’s hoping it gets introduced! I’m tired of sitting around in Queensdale vainly hoping for Secrets in the Swamp to start and not being able to go do stuff elsewhere. :P
I never deliberately train monsters onto other players, but I think I may have done it inadvertantly once or twice while running from one place to another and I couldn’t be bothered to stop and fight them. If I did wrong somebody in this manner, I apologise!
However, if the person deliberately did it so that they could gain free access to a node/skill point/whatever while the other player did all the work, then that is bad form. I’m not sure if a single incident would be report-worthy, but what the OP experienced at the hands of the entire guild is definitely griefing and should be reported.
In all likelihood it will just be another short cinematic, but it does worry me that it mentions a “one-time event chain” that will run for several hours. I missed out on the special Shatterer/Branded ending for BWE3 due to time differences, and I’m pretty certain we’ll never see anything like that again.
Let’s not compare GW1 and GW2 please; one was and is a niché mmo/CORPG, the other one is a triple A title with a persistent world and massive growth over its predecessor.
GW1 may have started out as a CORPG, but by ANet’s own admission, it ended up evolving into a MMO when players started treating it that way. Besides, I’m not sure I see much difference in the way players are approaching both games; most players just end up solo’ing most events in the game world (or with Heroes/henchies in GW1). The only time organised groups are formed are for high-level content like dungeons (of which GW1 also had) and for farming difficult areas (GW2 has Orr, GW1 has FoW/UW).
Anyway, do you honestly believe that ‘the average player’ will ‘put his mind to saving up for a legendary’ for 3-4 years? Of which the majority of the time will be spent repeating the same Cursed Shore events over and over and over? Instead of going to another games that, y’know, actually have a better measurement of effort/reward.
At the risk of sounding elitist, the “average player” probably wasn’t intended to GET a Legendary. As some have mentioned, if everybody had a Legendary, they would hardly be Legendary items anymore, would they? I’m just making the case that I believe it is possible for an average player (defined as somebody who plays for an hour or two a day) to have saved up enough over the course of GW2’s lifetime to get one. ANet’s not going to stop with just vanilla GW2; there will be expansions and free additional content for at least a few years to come. For an average player who sticks with the game for that period of time, I find it hard to believe they won’t build up a substantial bank account to be able to afford a Legendary at some point in the future.
For a casual player who maybe only does 2 hours a week, then heads to another game when they get bored, only to come back when new content is released, then yes, they won’t get a Legendary, but I think such a player wouldn’t have the savings to get much of ANY end-game content, let alone a Legendary.
Besides, there are other ways to earn money than by farming a single location over and over. I hear that prices for T6 mats have risen quite a bit since the mass bot banning two days ago. Why not seek out places where such mats drop and farm there instead for a change? Or do Dungeons? Or if you get really burnt out on all this farming for one character, take a break and make an alt and just play through the game? You can always put the earnings the alt makes towards your main’s Legendary fund.
It’s 6am for those of us in Queensland.
You can also position yourself in such a way that when the first golem is aggroed, you lure it away from its starting position so you can battle it without the second golem getting involved. I suggest luring it down the path back towards the gate; it’s pretty easy as the golem chases you for a fair distance.
What server are you on, drifter? Someone from Stormbluff Isle posted in the Game Bugs thread that they did see him last night, so it seems that the Shadow Behemoth is working on some servers, but bugged on others.
Still no sign of the Shadow Behemoth despite checking frequently on Tarnished Coast last night and once again this morning. During that time, Frozen Maw spawned at least 3 times, while Wychmire Swamp spawned twice. I’d say there is definitely something bugged with the Secrets in the Swamp meta-event on some servers.
Yeah, whichever way you cut it, somebody’s going to be upset. I’m just saying, “Does it always have to be the SAME people who get upset?”
And if that is the way it has to be (I’m realistic enough to know that’s just the way it is sometimes when you’re in the minority), can we at least get a little something for the trouble we have to go through, ANet? An Abyss dye would look awesome on my Necro. Just saying.
Well, I’d examine what are your reasons for getting that Legendary in the first place. Is it because you genuinely like the skin? Or is it just because you feel like you have to “keep up with the crowd”? If it’s the former, then by all means, continue to save up and slowly farm/buy the mats you need. The Legendary isn’t going anywhere, and prices may fall/stabilise again in the future, making it easier for you.
If the latter, you don’t need that Legendary in the first place then. Buy what YOU like, not what others say is cool/awesome.
And if you want a Legendary purely to get that medal on your character creation screen, then just do some research to find out which is the absolutely cheapest Legendary (hint: it’s probably going to be one of the underwater weapons), and get that.
(Quotes not working, so this is addressed to Nimraphel)
“And I would hardly say that a guy averaging 3 hours/day every single day is casual. Far from it. He would be amongst the segment that should definitely have a shot at legendaries; 3 hours/day/365 days a year is not compatible with serious studies, family, career, work or whatever. It’s unsustainable. The hypothetical guy in my example would be a prime candidate for a legendary over considerable time. Considerable time, however, is not one year.”
I actually see things differently. I expect that ANet intended Legendaries to be items that players could obtain over the course of SEVERAL years. Guild Wars 1 had a lifetime for over 7 years; I fully expect GW2 to last for the same amount of time, if not more. In that timeline, Legendaries are probably items that your average player, playing 1 – 2 hours a day for 3 – 4 years, could definitely afford if they saved up with a mind to working towards a specific Legendary. ANet probably didn’t expect people to have Legendaries within 2 months of the game’s release. (Perhaps it was poor design, perhaps it was people exploiting the market, or perhaps it was people buying gold from gold sellers, but I’ll refrain from going too much into it since that’s not really what this thread is about.)
As some other threads have pointed out, not all Legendaries are created equal. I think somebody created his Legendary (I think it might have been Kraitkin?) for a fraction of the cost it would have taken him to make Sunrise. People who simply wanted the medal for their account could follow a similar route.
All that said, I do agree with you that the question of supply probably needs to be looked at. If the demand for T6 mats for Legendaries is so great that it’s pricing people who want the materials for other reasons (like armor crafting) out of the market, then drop rates need to be tweaked.
So, some people simply want them to do event that the vast majority of players will miss, just so a small minority will be able to compete in it?
I might have missed something but I thought it was better for a company to cater to the majority and the the vocal minority?
Well, we could mix it up! How about the Lost Shores event kicks off at 12 noon PDT, Day 2 kicks off at 12 noon UTC, and Day 3 kicks off at 12 noon +8 UTC? That way, everybody gets to miss one event! :P
No. What most people are suggesting is that ANet move to a system closer to what they used in GW1, either a repeatable event that occurs every 3 hours for a 24 hour period, or perhaps an “instant-replay” NPC where you can talk to an NPC (with your party) and be taken to an instance where you can play out what happened earlier.
Cunning! Not as fun as luring a Champion Group Event boss over to stomp the bots into oblivion, but I like it.
Geez why does everyone sound like spoiled little brats. Life is not fair you are not going to be able to make every event.
The issue isn’t about people not being able to make every event it’s about some people not being able to make any of them.
^ Basically this. If ANet had made it so that the events started at 9pm +8 GMT (making it 3am for PDT US players) EVERY single time, resulting in people on the West Coast of the US being constantly unable to make each event, wouldn’t you think they’d be upset too?
Yes, if these “one-time events” turn to be nothing more than 30 second cutscenes each and every time, you’re not really missing much, but watching a video on Youtube isn’t the same as actually BEING there, any more than watching a music video of Justin Bieber (sorry, first name that popped into my head!) is the same as attending one of his concerts.
There is an alternate solution that I saw in another thread though. Someone suggested having a Armor Designer where you could show them suits of armor you were wearing to “unlock” the appearance. Thereafter, you could simply visit this Designer and get them to apply an armor skin you’d already unlocked to any suit of armor you were currently wearing, similar to the HoM heritage items. (This Armor Design might require you to pay him with Transmutation Stones each time you change the armor’s appearance, so it wouldn’t unduly affect the current set up.)
That Im not opposed to, why didnt you include that in your original post rather than just make it cheaper to buy?
I forgot about it until my second post. XD Plus, I still would prefer for Tier 3 Cultural armor to be boosted to Exotic grade, and keeping it at or near its current price.
I’m hoping for a Crab pet! I miss my Pinchy from GW1. XD
While I’m generally not against “luxury” armor having high prices, I do agree that the Tier 3 Cultural armor needs a bit of tweaking. Either:
1. The gap between the Tier 2 and Tier 3 armors is too great. (Ridiculously so, IMO.) I’d lower the price for Tier 3 armor to about 50 gold for a full set, if we’re retaining the current stats.
OR
2. Boost Tier 3 armor to Exotic status, with a commensurate increase in stats and bonuses. Then I think it’d be worth the 100+ gold price tag. (Although I’d still drop the price to about a flat 100g.)
But, as many people have stated, the cultural armor is not about stats
If it were about stats, many many people would complain about the fact that they are limited by the stats of the armor (cond, str, health etc.).
Did you want them to add a set of them for every single stat build? That doesnt make sense at all.
Buy the cultural piece you want, then transmute it into a piece with the stats and runes that you like. This is a perfect set up.
That would mean you’d need to buy TWO suits of armor to get the one final set. And if you don’t have the funds to do that, it would mean effectively destroying another suit of armor whose appearance you might also like. For instance, I like the appearance of the Tier 6 Crafted Heavy Armor, and I ALSO like the appearance of the Human Cultural Tier 3 armor. Should I have to sacrifice my Crafted set just so I can have my Cultural Armor appearance in level 80 areas?

Daze and Confusion can probably be thought of as “hexes”, such they both affect the mind rather than the physical body.
I like the idea of there being a worldwide quest to gather materials to fix the statue too. The NPCs can reward the player with some sort of gift bag (like the Trick or Treat bags), and it would be a good way to consume some of the thousands of low-priced items that nobody ever seems to want, like Butter.

And while we’re at it, could we get Collectible tabs for refined ingredients like Balls of Dough too? :P I understand not provided slots for finished food dishes like Bowls of Chili, but it’s rather annoying to have to devote bank slots to intermediate ingredients that are needed for more advanced dishes, but can’t be consumed themselves.
I personally wouldn’t mind dungeon tokens being tradable, for the reasons the OP mentioned. There is such a diverse array of armors that wearing a particular suit of dungeon armor is less about status and more about the “wow, your character looks awesome” reaction. Honestly, if you asked me to name which sets of armor any particular stranger in GW2 was wearing, I would not have a clue. The same goes for weapons too.
