Ouch… That’s Monday 29th, 5am my time.
Well, at least we have a concrete time now. Guess I’ll be heading to bed early on Sunday night!
Currently the only way to get the Mistfire Wolf elite skill is to buy the Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Edition of GW2. Perhaps somewhere down the line ANet will put the Mistfire Wolf for separate sale in the gemstore, but that could be a long way off.
My prediction is that the event on the 28th is going to be a big “The Mists have been torn open!” sequence, which kicks off Act 3 where players can venture into the Mad Realm to do whatever quests are there. So, while players from early timezones will still be able to access the quests for Act 3, they’ll possibly miss out on “being there when it all started”.
I’m really hoping this isn’t the case, but I’m bracing myself for the possibility. :/
They worked for me this morning, but that was before the latest patch. I can’t say for certain whether the patch disabled them, or perhaps they changed it so the spots are usable once. Have you tried these spots before, or on another character?
EDIT after Alyssa’s post: Aww, really?
I guess I got the ones in Lion’s Arch just in time then.

/signed. Regardless of the BLC furor going on, I’m having a great time enjoying the new Halloween decorations and the new quests. The Costume Brawl is a fun little diversion when you’re in towns, and the disguised Quaggans alone would have made the entire festival worthwhile. XD
“Coo! Oh, Quaggan meant to say, “ooooOOOoooo!”
EDIT: I kind of hope we can smack King Thorn around this year though. After reading the Memoirs and talking to the ghosts, I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s no better than Palawa Joko. >:(
If you feel the prices for the Halloween model skins are over-priced (and honestly? I agree that they are), then be patient. Wait.
ANet’s inclusion of the Mad King Chest recipe for the Mystic Forge essentially means that they’ve increased the potential pool of BLC skins in the community by an exponential amount since the player base can continue to generate Mad King Chests from the Mystic Forge long after Halloween is over for as long as there are Candy Corns in circulation in the economy. (I’m willing to bet that there’s tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of CC’s out there right now, more than enough to last us all the way till next year’s Halloween.)
Over the next few months, as the novelty of the Halloween weapons wears off and more MKC’s enter the economy, the price WILL fall, and it will eventually drop into a range you’re willing or able to afford.
Posted this in another thread, but I figured it should be posted here instead:
“People still haven’t learned their lesson from the first round of RNG chests, it seems. Do NOT gamble for the skins. Wait for them to come out on the TP and buy them instead.
What ANet has done is essentially increase the potential pool of BLC skins in the community by an exponential amount (6 Mysterious Tonics + 2 Boosters is basically the contents from 2 BLC’s). This WILL increase the number of skins available on the market, and it WILL lower the prices going forward, especially since the player base can continue to generate Mad King Chests from the Mystic Forge long after Halloween is over for as long as there are Candy Corns in circulation in the economy. And I’m willing to bet that there’s tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of CC’s out there right now, more than enough to last us all the way till next year’s Halloween. (It happened in GW1, it’s sure going to happen in GW2!)
By all means, if you have extra MT’s and Boosters lying around, make a few MKC’s and take a punt, but do NOT sink your savings into this. Gamble only what you can afford to lose.”

I can’t help but giggle at the thought of all those identical female Norn rangers running around naked though. XD
In an ideal world, you would have mods drawn from the community that would be running around, playing the game, but have the power to instantly kick and ban obvious bots like these on the spot. Unfortunately, there are bound to be some individuals who would abuse this power (and let’s face it, if you HAD that kind of power at your fingertips, wouldn’t you be tempted to use it on some annoying kitten who was being rude to you or your friends or rubbing his sPvP victory in your face? Just once, to teach him a lesson?), which means it can’t be given out to players.

The tracks appear to have reached their download limits.
Is there somewhere else we can get access to them?
It seems that the answer is yes. As long as you have the Halloween crafting materials available, you will be able to craft the Halloween weapons year-round.
1. I finished getting the six ghosts and the book after from the npc.
That’s Act 1 complete.
2. 3,003 karma is needed for chef recipes SE of canal ward WP in LA.
3. 1,603 karma is needed for artificer recipes SW of canal ward WP in LA.
Complete a Daily achievement and drink the Jug of Liquid Karma you get from it. It should almost cover the karma requirements for it.
4. I want to get “the crossing” weapon. How do I get it?
That is a very long and VERY expensive process. There are other threads talking about how to get the perma-Halloween weapons, but I don’t know of one off-hand.
5. There are these spots to get personalized ToTs: http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/use-candy-powered-matter-meter-to-get-trick-or-treat-bags/54312/ but I don’t know how often you can get from each spot. Anyone know?
It seems that with very few exceptions, each spot is usable only once.
6. I’m concidering the halloween mini-pets. I read you can get a 4th one if you combine them in the mystic forge. Does this consume the other 3 mini-pets so that I have to buy them again?
Yes, creating the 4th minipet consumes the first 3. If you want to have all 4 in your Collectible storage, you will need to buy the Halloween Minipet Pack twice.
7. What are the other items I can get and how? I know there are the BLTC chest skins, that as far as I know you either gamble with the chests or buy the skins from someone selling them.
I’d suggest waiting on the BLC skins. ANet is releasing an alternate method of getting the skins by combining Boosters, Mysterious Tonics and Candy Corn in the Mystic Forge. Once that happens, you can expect to see the prices for the skins tumble like a rock and you can pick up the skin you want for cheap.
8. Is there any reason not to open all personalized ToTs and regular ToTs?
Personalised ToTs are bound to your account, so open away and enjoy the contents! I personally would sell the regular ToTs, since they fetch a decent price on the TP, but it’s your choice.
Considering the Halloween achievements mention something about “entering the Mad Realm”, I think it’s safe to say that the truly high level content will take place in an alternate/instanced realm similar to WvW where players will be scaled up appropriately. Running around in Kessex Hills/Gendarren Fields can be tough if you’re a low level character, but it’s possible to reach the area in Kessex Hills without doing any fighting, and you can ask in Map chat for help with the Gendarren Fields memoir (it’s what I did, and several people showed up to help within a minute).
I’d love an Endless TP too. I tried to TP the Giant Cauldron but sadly 3 rolls just ain’t gonna cut it. XD
I managed to solo him on my Ranger by luring the Chaos Beast so far from his spawn that he was constantly rubber-banding back and forth and then just shooting him to death, and another time on my Ele by running up the slope inside the Anthill while constantly burning him, then jumping back down to the ground floor once I was at the top to repeat the process. (Getting the Skritt NPCs to bodyblock him to slow him helps with this.)
The trick is to use Discoveries, as Yukishiro said. This is easiest on Chef, because there’s a ton of different food recipes all requiring different ingredients at each tier, and you can easily craft one of each type and reach the next tier easily. But most of the other disciplines also have other items you can use to squeeze out Discovery XP. Artificers have potions, Jewelers have jewels (combining gemstones with filigrees), armor disciplines have bags and runes, and weapon disciplines have sigils and consumables.
Another trick is to skip the Fine materials completely and just buy the insignias/inscriptions directly. There is usually a glut of insignias/inscriptions on the TP, and it’s much cheaper to buy these rather than the materials required to make these insignias/inscriptions. For example, to gain a lot of crafting XP for Armorsmith, buy one of each insignia, then buy the components for a cheap armor piece (e.g. helms are usually quite cheap), and craft all 6 or 7 different variants of that helm for a huge chunk of crafting + Discovery XP.
I salvage them for mats if the upgrade component (runes/jewels etc.) is pricey enough. Otherwise, I merch ’em.
Do level 80 exotics actually have some sort of advantage over level 80 rares? (Or greens or blues or whites, for that matter?)
yes only exotics have max stats
Ohhh… Didn’t know that. Well, in that case I will agree that ANet should have made the Pact weapon an Exotic then. I mean, you just killed freakin’ Zhaitan! You’d think that’d be worth an Exotic weapon at least. :P
“like most green weapons they had one less upgrade component than could be applied to standard rares”
Uhh, I’m pretty certain you’re wrong about that. While all green weapons in GW1 had their stats fixed and could not be changed, they had the exact same number of components (prefixes, suffixes and inscriptions) as any gold weapon.
Anyway, since none of my characters are anywhere near level 80 at the moment, I’m a little confused by the arguments going on in this thread. Do level 80 exotics actually have some sort of advantage over level 80 rares? (Or greens or blues or whites, for that matter?) I was under the impression that the number of upgrade slots and attribute boosts on a weapon was determined by its level. I mean, there’s no functional difference between Legendaries and level 80 exotics apart from “super-cool-sparkly skins!”, right?
Trouble is, Shiren, the language coming from ANet about this event so far has been that it is a “one-time” event. Not a full-day event, a one-time event. This brings to mind the one-time events that heralded the end of the BWE’s, where if you couldn’t attend them due to work/school/sleep, you were just plain out of luck.
I didn’t mind missing out on those closing BWE events so much since our characters were going to be wiped anyway, but it would be extremely disappointing if the same thing was going to happen for the Halloween finale.
Good point, kaffa. I normally open all bags that I find, so it hadn’t occurred to me to simply sell the ToT bags themselves. I’ll have to check what price they’re fetching on the TP at the moment when I get home tonight.
If there is absolutely nothing you want from the Halloween event (I’m one of these players. None of the skins really appeal to me, and while I think the costumes are fun to see around town, I wouldn’t buy them myself), here’s what you do:
1. Mine Candy Corn/Open all ToT Bags you find.
2. Sell Candy Corn and all Halloween crafting materials on TP.
3. Enjoy your extra money.
If it helps, fighting the ghosts in an attempt to put them to rest is the most merciful thing you can do for them now. They’re essentially trapped in their own memories, forever reliving events from their lives even though the world has long since moved on. They can’t see you, they can’t hear you (or if they do, they interpret it through their own garbled world view), and there’s no way you can reason with them. They’re a tragic legacy of a tragic part of history, but letting the ghosts just keep Ascalon and brood forever in their own madness isn’t helping them either.
Yeah, that’s definitely something to consider as well. Not to mention that there’s also a centaur historian in Lion’s Arch who’s gloomily pessimistic about the chances for his race, stating that the main reason the centaurs were doing so well against the humans was because Kryta was fighting a war on two fronts; against them, and against the charr. Now that the humans and charr have signed a ceasefire, Kryta is free to turn all of its attentions to the centaurs, and the arrival of new war technology like tanks and massed artillery strikes (and possibly allied charr soldiers) means the centaurs won’t be able to achieve the same kind of successes they had before.
Jugs of Liquid Karma do NOT scale. I used one on my level 29 last night and received 4500 karma. This is consistent with what many other players with different levels of characters have reported.
You CAN get the most out of them by using a karma booster before drinking a huge stash of them; very useful if you want to build up karma on a character to purchase Cultural weapons or deity armor.
That’s my fear, because that’s what happened with the end of the BWE’s too.
I didn’t mind so much then because all our characters were going to be wiped anyway, but if this one event is the sole opportunity to unlock one of the Halloween achievements, I think a lot of people in the Oceania/Asia region are going to be very upset. (Europe might still get away with it if they stay up late, but those of us to the East have work/school the next day.)
Darn… So there IS a one-time only event on the 28th?
I was hoping it would be a 24 hour repeating cycle of events similar to the Mad King’s appearance in GW1.
If I recall correctly, the time was 28th October 12:00 (noon) PST, which translates into 29th Oct, 0600 hours for me. I can make that by setting my alarm, but I wince for my friends in New Zealand for whom it’ll be 8am and they’ll be at work/school. Not to mention peeps from Asia/Eastern Europe where it’ll be an ungodly hour in the moring.
The Halloween-themed costumes are definitely more powerful than the animal forms, but I consider it a fair trade-off considering those players paid gems for their costumes while the rest of us are just jumping in for free. There are also some animal forms which have very powerful skills, such as the Moa (AoE rapid attack that can easily rack up points if you use it while everybody’s standing around a cauldron or table), or the Golem (same situation using it’s spinning attack).
Besides, it’s not like being the Brawl King has any lasting benefits aside from progress in a title. It’s a bit like taking part in a pillow fight; fun for a while, then you just move on to something else once you get bored of it.
Thanks for the tips, all.
My characters are also too low to be running about in Gendarran Fields, so I’ll follow the route Penarddun suggested. Hopefully there’ll be a group there to help me get through the traps!
What about the Kessex Hills region? What’s the fastest/safest way to get to the page location?
“it’s just that place where the Genie steals my items.”
An accurate assessment.
Basically, I would only ever use the Mystic Forge for guaranteed recipes. Using it like a casino in the hopes of getting valuable items is a surefire way to lose money over the long term.
My advice for earning money, especially at lower levels, is:
1. Never Waypoint anywhere. Those costs can add up very quickly if you’re constantly teleporting around. If you need to travel back to a main city, use the Heart of the Mists free transport that others have mentioned.
2. Don’t repair your armor until ALL of them are damaged. You don’t suffer any defensive penalty until armor starts breaking, and chances are you’ll replace your old armor with new drops before it gets to that point. If you have any Instant Repair Canisters from Black Lion Chests, use those once all of your armor is damaged instead of paying for repairs.
3. Buy one of every gathering tool and harvest EVERYTHING you come across. This is especially true at lower levels, where a single use of a Copper tool costs less than 0.3 copper, and the return on the item can be many times that. Copper ore, for instance still sells for around 10 – 15 copper on the TP, which means that for the 24 copper you spent on a Copper Mining Pick, you earned back 1000 – 1500 copper (minus taxes).
4. In general, you’ll want to salvage all white and blue items for their materials. Light armor in particular is especially profitable, since low-level light armor gives Jute scraps which are consistently in high demand. For Green and higher items, have a look to see whether the item itself or the upgrade components on it are considered valuable on the Trading Post. If they are, sell the item, or salvage the rune/sigil and sell the upgrade on the TP; if not, just merch the item.
Yep, you can give out Candy Corn to the trick or treating children in Lion’s Arch. They give you back Trick or Treat Bags depending on the number of CC’s you give them. (10 for 1 Bag, 50 for 8 Bags and something in between, but I can’t remember what.)
EDIT: However, considering the Bags don’t tend to give out expensive loot, it may be more profitable to sell the CC’s instead on the TP, depending on what current prices are like.
So it seems that the only people who are going to get the permanent Halloween crafted weapons are those who are already have the cash to buy what mats they need, or who are going to be very, VERY dedicated farmers over the course of the next week.
It’s not a big issue for me as I don’t particularly like any of the Halloween weapon skins so far, but I imagine this will be a huge disappointment to many people.
On the bright side, at least now we know what to expect for next Halloween and can farm up the mats beforehand in preparation.
You got (very) lucky, ster. There are people who are reporting having opened up to 100 or more chests without seeing a single Halloween item.
Wait… What do you mean by “Temporary Weapon”? Do you mean just any appropriate weapon type, or as in one of the 3-hour limited weapons that’s only available during Halloween?
Because if so, then there’s a very, very short window of opportunity to craft these perma-Halloween weapons, which pretty much will lock out a large part of the player base. I can’t see that going over well considering the discontent already bubbling over the low drop rate of Halloween skins from the BLC’s…
It may simply not be in the game yet. Remember that the Halloween content comes in four Acts; maybe the Mad King’s Tower is revealed in Act II?
Shame there’s no reward for partial completions of Monthlies. None of my characters are really high enough level to take part in WvW, so even if I eat my heart out with Candy Corn, I still get no reward for it. Ah well. I’m pretty happy with the Karma buff for Daily/Monthly completion though.
@Taku: It’s no Furrocious Ears, but still cute.
Holy… Sounds like the perma-Halloween crafted items are legendaries in themselves. O.o
The quests in the first Act do take you to a level 15 – 25 zone, as well as a level 25 – 35 zone, so it may be pretty rough for you unless you’re traveling with a larger group and try to stay out of trouble. I imagine that it shouldn’t be too hard to find some kind-hearted people to escort you to the areas though.
Woah… 4500 just for completing a Daily?? O.o That’s like 75% of the total karma on one of my characters! Me likey that change!
Just wondering… Can runes/sigils be put into the MF? If so, perhaps the Halloween runes might be components for the permanent Halloween weapon recipes from the Forge?
Kinda odd that the Leatherworking rune has absolutely no leather components though.
ANet has stated that over 30 new DE’s have been added to the game. Since she’s a ghost it’s possible that it’s a Halloween-specific event, but we can’t know for sure until the festival is over.
I’m not sure since I’m at work at the moment and cannot check the game. Perhaps you do earn Candy Corn from the Costume Brawl, but you’d need another player to confirm it.
Remember, these weapons are craftable year-round once you’ve discovered the recipe, so don’t worry too much about trying to craft them NOW. It’s more important to stockpile the event materials that won’t drop once Halloween is over.
I think you have your games mixed up.
Bobby sends you to the Costume Brawl… in Guild Wars ONE.
For how to take part in the Costume Brawl in GW2, see this post:

I sympathise with the people who have sunk lots of gold and/or money into buying keys, because I know how that feels, but I can tell you right now that ANet is not going to give you your keys/money back. It is a GAMBLE, people. And the one rule about gambling is that in the end, the house/casino ALWAYS wins. The smart thing to do is NOT to gamble at all, but simply wait and buy the skin you want (if you want it). If you have some extra cash and feel like having a roll at the dice, then go for it. But do NOT sink your life’s savings into it. Down that path is how lives are ruined.
The people who cleaned up from this event are the players who offloaded their stacks of Black Lion Chests the moment they saw the price going up. Learn from them.
Wow. I commend you for spending the gems just to see what would happen if you MF’d them! O.o
On a related note, are there new slots in the bank for these new minis?
ANet has stated that the weapon skins from the BLC’s ARE tradable, yes.
