While Insignia recipes are indeed account bound, only the character you used them on is able to craft those Insignias. Other characters on your account do NOT learn how to craft the Insignias.
So if you used all those recipes on a character that you’ve since deleted, you’re out of luck; you will need to buy those Insignias recipes all over again.
Here’s something people might wanna know about.
Let’s say you have a friend/relative/person that you want to play with, but they’re in a different World than you, and neither of you can/want to transfer.
Join a party with them, be in the same area, right-click their name/picture in the Party thing, and click Join. Ta-da! You’re now playing in the same world with the person!
You can even change areas and still be in the same World as your group. In fact, it might not even matter what area you’re in, so clicking Join might just swap you over to the other person’s world right then and there. However, I’ve yet to actually test this, so it might be necessary to be in the same area.
This is how I was able to play with my brother and some friends. I’m on Borlis Pass, but he’s on Jade Quarry (he also wants me to transfer over, but I’m stubborn and I wanna stay on my World :c). I can’t just automatically play on Jade Quarry, but we can play together if we make a Party and one of us Joins the other.
It’s what we did so we could go into Ascent to Madness and attempt the Clock Tower in the same instance. I didn’t have to keep Joining each time we moved to a different area, either. Just not sure if you have to be in the same area on the initial Join to the other person’s World or not.
I haven’t tested this myself, but I believe this technique only works if the two servers are in the same region (e.g. US and US, or EU and EU). If you are on a US server and are attempting to join your friend on an EU server, it won’t let you.
Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!

I’m on Tarnished Coast (the unofficial RP server), and I haven’t had much problems finding other people on, even during non-peak hours. I think there’s a dearth of players in mid-level areas because the playerbase is generally divided into two main groups:
1. The powerlevelers/rushers who have basically already completed the game and are now primarily farming dungeons/Orr for high-level loot.
2. The altoholics (like me) who are busy leveling multiple characters at the same time and so we’re still mostly hanging out in low-level zones.
Over time, the second group will probably start moving into the mid-level areas, so there might be a general migration to higher zones, but considering the nature of Tarnished Coast, I imagine there will always be a healthy population of RP’ers staying in the lower-level regions.
Really? I don’t remember any floating rocks from Elona. There were the floating gardens in Vabbi, but I always thought that was through djinn magic rather than any inherent property of the materials.

I like my eye candy as much as the next guy, but I think the diversity of appearance with female Asura and Charr in not having breasts is a breath of fresh air.
Not to mention that at 250 uses, the cost to return ratio for Mystic Salvage Kits is simply incredible. I’m planning on making a few as soon as my characters are high enough level for it to count.
Was anyone able to salvage the Mad King's footgear they got from the Clock Tower?

Can you replace the rune in it?
I use Longbow and Axe/Axe on mine, with the Longbow being my go-to weapon in most situations. I prefer sending my pet in to tank while I pepper enemies full of arrows, and against large groups, I open up with Barrage, then charge in and use Whirling Defense for a good amount of AoE damage, following it up with normal axe throws.
I also carry a Shortbow for situations where I need conditions, although I hardly use it.
Size? Who cares about size; I want NUMBERS. I remember the days from GW1 when you could steamroll any enemy with 40+ minions.
There should be a Grandmaster Death Magic trait that lets you summon twice the number of minions with each minion skill.
Plus, after all I’ve done, I’m pretty sure the gods owe me AT LEAST this.
Hehe, true. Kormir does owe you a pretty darn big favour after Nightfall.
(Also, spoiler alert, that mesmer is going to wind-up with my female Norn ranger :p)
Hey, that’s no worse than my Human female Mesmer winding up with my giant male Charr Warrior who’s like 3 times her size. XD
That’s still better than the male Asura’s “Why won’t anyone… help me?” … when there’s nobody else around. Of COURSE nobody’s gonna help you, you dimwit! :P
Here’s a tip. When jumping as a Charr, your HIND legs are where you’ll actually land, so use those as your targeting guideline. Yes, this means you’ll often look like half your body is going to go over the edge on that tiny little stone platform, but you won’t fall off.
I love my Asura for the way he seems to bounce around in his animations, from the little jump he does when you stop running, to the way he wobbles on one foot when you side-step, and the adorable windmilling of his arms when you jump. Couple that with his needlessly cerebral voice acting, and you just have one adorable little murder-bunny.
I tend to have a 50:50 ratio of male to female characters in any RPG I play. The choice of gender typically comes down to what I feel would suit the role I want that character to have better. For GW2, I have:
1. Female Human Mesmer.
2. Female Norn Ranger.
3. Male Asura Elementalist.
4. Male Charr Warrior.
5. Female Sylvari Necromancer.
Did “aesthetics” influence my decision? Quite possibly, given that all my female characters are “humanoid”, but given that I roleplay with all 5 characters, it’s certainly not over any squeamishness about getting into a female mindset.
For the record, my GW1 characters were:
1. Male Necromancer.
2. Female Monk.
3. Male Warrior.
4. Female Assassin.
5. Male Paragon.
Actually, the maps in GW1 were also giant squares/rectangles. You may not be able to hug all the way to the edges of the zone, but they were also squares just like the maps in GW2.
Your character will sometimes say things when they draw their weapon too. It’s easiest if you bind a key to draw/holster weapon and do it repeatedly until they say it.
True, although I’m unsure as to whether those floating objects were carved from the original rocks, are levitated through conventional Asura magic, or whether the Asura have already unlocked the secret of what makes the rocks levitate and just refuse to share the secret with the other races. :P
So then you should be able to craft the Gifts across different characters, right? It wouldn’t be necessary to level up Weaponsmithing on 1 character just to get Gift of Steel when another character with Weaponsmithing could craft it and give it to the first character?
P.S. Hi Erasculio!
I made the same mistake as the OP, but there was a workaround for it:
1. Create a new Mesmer with the mask that you want. (Item 1)
2. Buy a cheap white/blue mask off the TP (Item 2).
3. Transmute the Mesmer mask onto the white/blue mask to create Item 3. (Item 3 will say that it’s Soulbound, but don’t worry about that.)
4. Put Item 3 into your bank and pick it up on your main Mesmer. (Normally you shouldn’t be able to retrieve Soulbound items from other characters, but for some reason you can retrieve this item.)
5. Wear Item 3. (Or to be safe, transmute Item 3 to your main’s headgear, making Item 4.)
This was the workaround that worked for me, but ANet may have patched it by now.
I agree that there should be a much easier way to re-obtain the starter headgears if you sold/deleted it by accident, however.
As the others have said, Transmutation Stones. You can’t retrieve the Primeval Helm skin from the item you used it on, but you CAN transmute the appearance from the helm onto a new helm (with better stats) that you find in the future.
It’s interesting that the floating rocks only come from the Tarnished Coast region; they’re found nowhere else, as far as I know, and the presence of several floating rocks in Beetletun outside Caduceus’s Manor indicates that they continue to maintain their levitation even when removed from the region, so it’s likely to be something in the rocks themselves that’s making them float.
I’m kinda surprised the Asura haven’t puzzled it out yet. They’ve had 250 years to research it!
One of the funniest parts of Halloween was when Mad King Thorn made a Hylek joke, and I yelled out in All chat “YOU CROSSED THE LINE!”
Followed by Stomp.
A new theory I heard last night is that certain large meta-events will only trigger once a critical mass of players in the area has been reached. This may explain why certain events like the Frozen Maw restart so frequently (lots of people tend to hang around the area thanks to the proximity of the crafters and several renown Hearts), but others like Secrets in the Swamp are so rare because Godslost Swamp is quite far off the beaten track and there is only one renown Heart in the area, meaning few people visit the area.
I’m going to try testing this this weekend by asking for a large number of volunteers to gather in Godslost Swamp and hanging around for a while.
Most definitely not. I saw him yesterday, and I was there, there were only 3-4 players wandering around. I wanted to fight him, but the event was bugged. The 3 portals were just standing there and they couldn’t be destroyed, neither was the objective to do so given in the top right corner.
So you have failed me again, Starscream…
Heh, couldn’t resist. But OK, it seems like the theory is debunked then. I was also there for about 3 hours or so on the weekend and there were a fair number of players hanging around Godslost Swamp (about 5 or 6 in the Monastery, 2 people in Greatheart Weald, a few in the swamp itself and I think there were also a few in the Tamnin Foothills), and the chain still failed to start.
I think there might indeed be a bug that is causing the Swamp chain to not fire. Perhaps we need to raise it as a bug report, just in case.
“Just give the Inquest time…they’ll be in space. Then we’ll discover another Elder Dragon still in hibernation orbiting the planet.
Actually that sounds kinda cool.”
I second that idea. I’ve always wanted to fight Ghroth the Harbinger! (Ghroth comes from the Call of Cthulhu mythos. He’s a planet-sized Great Old One who travels from world to world, destroying each one in fiery doom by opening his Eye.)
Who knows? Maybe Sylvari have retractable nipples the way some plants in real life can open and close their flowers (extending and retracting their stamen) during the day.
Sylvari seem to be able to sense the presence of other Sylvari too. There are frequent references by Sylvari who encountered a Soundless and were shaken by the fact that they could “feel” nothing from them. This implies that while Sylvari do not possess telepathy or the ability to read each other’s thoughts, they CAN sense general emotions from each other, or at least the emotional presence of another Sylvari.
My Asura has a pale gray skin tone, reflecting what I think most Asura’s skin tones would have been like when they lived their entire lives underground, away from the sun.
ANet already bans accounts of players who are found to have purchased gold from third-party sites. They just go through due process first to make sure that players aren’t banned by mistake just for receiving 10g sent to them by a friend or something similar.
I’m not up to that part of the storyline yet, but weren’t they the Largos?
Great to hear that characters of all levels can take part in the Nov 15 special event! I’m guessing we’ll have another special launching platform from LA that will take us to the appropriate region.
I like the idea of a way to turn karma into gems. Would provide another method for people to access gem store items like BL keys, and thus increase demand for BLC’s. It would also largely negate the outrage over having to gamble on BLC’s for special festival skins, since you could try and farm karma to achieve that instead. (And if you want a quicker way, you can always buy gems directly.) Finally, you could also turn the gems into gold, which is another way for players to help increase their bank balance.
You’d just need to set the exchange rate for karma→gems high enough so the market isn’t flooded with gems a few hours in.
The wait time, the cutscene and the poems by the Lunatic Courtiers drove me insane, I swear it. I still can’t stop reciting Tick, tock, the mouse ran up the clock, and time swallowed it whole – tail and all!
One time, after failing the Tower with my Charr for the 5th time or so, I said in the map, “QUIET, YOU WRETCHED RODENT!” and proceeded to unload on that Asura with my Rifle. Got some laughs out of the other players in the lobby. XD
I’d be happy enough with activities rewarding XP, karma and gold in the vein of Dynamic Events. Basically, something so that a PvE player could feel like they are still making progress towards their ultimate character goal while taking time out from their normal PvE activities.
I wouldn’t mind activities awarding Glory (perhaps in place of gold) as well, but I’m OK with that staying as a sPvP-specific reward.
Not to mention that a lot of the Ranger weapon skills seem to evoke Spirits of the Wild, summoning images of Bears, Wolves, Ravens and Sharks attacking their foes.
Pyre was the first, and maybe only, sympathetic Charr we meet in GW1. He provides our first good glimpse into Charr society and the beginnings of their civil war.
I actually never liked Pyre. XD He was a ruthless, treacherous Charr who allied with the PC and the Ebon Vanguard so long as it served his purposes of battling the Flame Legion. He may have developed a sense of respect for the PC by the end of EotN, but he made it clear on multiple occasions that the only reason he didn’t attack and kill the PC once they’d freed his warband and killed Hierophant Burntsoul was because he knew the PC and their allies were too powerful to be confronted directly.
That said, I’m always wary of painting all members of a race with the same brush based solely on the impression we get from a few individuals. While we know the Charr live in a militaristic society, we can’t really know for certain if all Charr are ferocious and violent by nature, or whether such Charr simply naturally gravitate to the military roles, while Charr who are not so inclined fill the roles of artisans, merchants, fahrar-minders and farmers. After all, SOMEBODY has to fill those roles while the soldiers are on the frontlines, and you can’t always rely on (or trust) slaves to perform those duties.
Abaddon. It’s stated that the Cauldron of Cataclysm used magic even older than the Six Gods, however, so it may be a relic from the last time the Dragons walked Tyria.
Elementalist or Engineer would suit an Asura best, I think, although many Asura players complain that the steampunkish look of the Engineer’s tools and weapons doesn’t fit the clean, techno-magic look that the rest of Asura architecture and equipment has.
Unfortunately free trials may be a long way away, as such accounts are typically quickly used by gold sellers to spam their services as well as serve as mule accounts to transfer gold. These problems can be closed, but it will probably take some time to build an iron-clad free trial that can’t be abused.
I sometimes enjoy switching to Water on my Ele and tossing out healing spells, coupled with Blast effects for burst healing here and there. It won’t be able to negate all the damage, sure, but if your allies are halfway decent players it can take a lot of pressure off them and enable them to stay in the fight instead of having to constantly kite or retreat from combat entirely to recover.
Here’s hoping for dungeon tokens being awarded for Story mode completions too. (It should be simple enough to retroactively award it to all players who have completed Story mode dungeons too.)
Well, if it’s level 80 content I probably won’t get to it for a while. Hopefully the “one-time event” is something similar to the Mad King’s appearance in LA, that I won’t miss out on too much if I simply can’t access the new area.
Sell all Fine and Masterwork (Blue and Green, respectively) quality items to NPC vendors
For Masterwork items, check the price of the rune/sigil on the TP first before selling them. Some upgrades sell for a lot of money and it’s worthwhile using a higher level kit to try and get the upgrade out first.
Wedding costumes were implemented in GW1, so I think it’s only a matter of time until they’re introduced into GW2. As to actual in-game mechanics supporting the marriage of two characters? I think that would never happen. Too much work for not enough reward, especially when you can easily RP a wedding ceremony in-game anyway.

claps Snow on the shoulder in sympathy
Lady Luck is a cruel mistress, my friend.
Norn on the Cob and the Risen shopkeeper got a few chuckles out of me. Well done.
hopefully in the future there will be weapon skins as well
I second this request as well. Great job so far on the site though, Kestrel! One thing that always bugged me about other armor galleries was the fact that each armor was on a different screen and so I couldn’t put different armors side-by-side for comparison.
Good point, Targen. I’d forgotten about that. Upon reflection, Armorsmiths also use Jute as “padding” for their armor. Plus all 3 armor crafting skills also use Jute for their insignias. So yes, Jute is definitely required by all classes and is probably why the demand is always so high.
Still, as someone who has 3 Scholar classes, 1 Adventurer and 1 Soldier, playing through all the five starter zones and salvaging all white/blue Light armor I came across still netted me enough Jute to craft 1 suit of Lvl 20 Masterwork armor for all my characters.
Yeah, I ran into those Sylvari too. It definitely seems odd. My guess is that the lines were written for a Human NPC and it just got carried over when they were recording the Sylvari lines.
