You might not find Oriental offensive, but would you find the term “Mongoloid” offensive if someone called you it? It was used at the same time as Caucasian/Caucasoid. Most people don’t find it offensive but its still outdated and groups together many groups who are completely different racially.
The word “Mongoloid” has an awkward mouthfeel to me (similar to how a lot of people have an instinctive dislike of the word “moist”), so I do dislike it on that basis, but I don’t find it offensive, no.
The “player driven” aspect means that you can play whatever content you like, then trade the results with other players for the rewards you like.
Alas, this hasn’t been the case with Fossils and the Ambrite weapons. :/
That was intentional though. ANet tries to avoid creating events where players can subvert it to spawn Champions to farm instead of actually completing the event.
I have 5 characters who will all be outfitted in Ascended gear one day. I calculated I’ll need 1200+ Obsidian Shards to craft all the Bloodstone/Empyreal/Dragonite I’ll need. I decided to get 1500 to cover any “incidental expenses” along the way.
There’s only two Commander suggestions I would support:
1. Commander tags are account-wide.
2. You can change the colour of your tag from a palette, enabling more coordination on maps where there are multiple commanders.
Nicely written. Entertaining enough for me to overlook the fact that it’s a goodbye post.
Sadly, it’s not going to happen. Development on GW1 has officially ceased, although the game will continue to run as long as there’s interest in it.
It’s a shame, really, because there’s still many unanswered questions from GW:Beyond. What happened to Evennia, for example? Who was the mysterious enemy trying to assassinate the human world leaders? And we missed our chance to see Palawa Joko begin his machinations that would ultimately lead him to conquer Elona at long last.

Sorry guys… The real correct answer is, “Want to cut through Mordremoth’s vines in style with Belinda’s Greatsword? Now you can, for the low price of 800 gems! Hurry in to Black Lion Trading Co. and get it while you can! -Evon Gnashblade.”
Honestly though, I don’t care. Just gimmie that sword! And the Tengu while we’re at it. :P
… Sadly, your guess is likely to be the correct one. XD All of the Biconic weapons so far have all been gemstore only. Belinda’s greatsword is likely to be no different.
Agreed on playable Tengu though!
Then they need to make a way that players who get Fossils, but don’t want them, feel like they’ve been rewarded, and a way for the unlucky players who want an Ambrite weapon, but just can’t get one, to be able to work towards it. If Fossils aren’t going to be tradable, then we need the following:
1. The ability to trade Unid Fossils to Gentt for Ambrite/Geodes/Lockpicks, so players in Group A at least have something to do with the Fossils than just destroy them.
2. The ability for players in Group B to earn Fossils by trading a high amount of Geodes (I’ll leave it up to ANet to decide what would be a reasonable amount) to the vendor. Fossils might only become available at T4 or T5, giving incentive for players to cooperate in the map.
Alternatively, since the Giant is now starting to be killed very rarely (players have worked out it’s much more profitable to just farm Geodes in other events than waste time at the Giant), killing the Giant has a chance to drop Unid Fossils.
Yes. You MUST log in AND click that glowy green icon. The clicking on the icon is what unlocks the content for your account.
Can I haz katana naow?
Me sarcastically: “Oh no, Belinda. What will you do Majory? That’s tragic, truly.”
Me: “Hey! I know… gimmy dat sword!”/e grabby hands
No, its…
“I guess someone has to take her sword to keep her memory alive! It would be a terrible burden but I will volunteer!”
Tsk, no… The correct answer is, “Let me bear Belinda’s sword, Marjory. I shall use it to strike down Mordremoth and thus avenge her death.”
Sadly, it seems that most T4/5 maps just ignore him now. (Understandably, since he takes a fair bit of time to kill, when you could be farming events for Geodes and loot.)
I think his rewards need to be buffed a bit to encourage people to take him down. Perhaps the following:
1. Slaying the Giant immediately jumps your Tier up by 1, even though the sandstorm has started. If your map is already at Tier 5, everybody participating in the fight gains 5 Lumps of Raw Ambrite, 3 Lockpicks and a chance to get either the Adventurer’s Exotics or an Unidentified Fossil.
2. This is in addition to the daily bonus chest the Giant gives as a world boss.
Yeah, those two particular achievements are bugged. Once unlocked, they can be completed by any character on your account, even if that particular character hasn’t done the story yet.
I think they should fix all the LS achievements to work like that, if you ask me. :P
Yeah, that particular armor piece is pretty buggy. Another way to get it is from the headgear offered by karma vendors. Some of the NPCs work.
It will reset whenever there is a new build, or if the map happens to become full and a new Megaserver instance is generated. Your best bet is to head to the map on July 29th, since that’s when the next patch is scheduled.
Shame that this bug still isn’t fixed though.
I actually once made a suggestion that Veterans should always drop loot bags (e.g. Bag of Skritt Shinies) relevant to their type. Elites should also drop non-Exotic Champ Bags. That would make fighting them more rewarding. (To compensate for the increased rate of drops, dungeons would need adjusting.)
And I have actually gotten an Exotic from a treasure chest in the open world before too, so… never say never.
(edited by Zaxares.5419)
While I do sympathise with the general idea behind the OP’s post, I feel I should point out that I’ve gotten Exotic drops, Charged Lodestones, and even a Precursor just from killing random mobs in the open world. It’s not that there isn’t the potential for immense windfalls for exploring and discovery isn’t there; it’s just very rare, and through the vagaries of RNG, some players might get lucky over and over and some will just get the skritt-stick over and over.
That’s why I’ve always supported token reward systems like what we have in dungeons and in the original incarnation of SAB. At least that way you know that, even if you are afflicted by some weird gypsy curse, you WILL eventually get what you want if you persevere at it for long enough. It’s just a matter of time and dedication.
If the ghosts truly are put to rest (which I doubt they will), then I think a whole new bunch of land just landed on the list of things to be considered in the Charr-Human peace treaty.
i’d like to think trahearne would accidentally catch on fire from clinking both swords together.
That’s for the next season, what are you? A Seer?!
i’m actually glint.
“Look behind you, the sand is now diamonds.”
Pssh, make them Charged Lodestones and I’ll take notice.
While I do like the idea, I’m not sure it will get implemented since we do already have rank-up chests in WvW, which serve the same purpose.
That said, there might be some merit in reworking the system so that different WvW activities become different reward tracks. (e.g. a “WvW Defender” reward track, which is increased every time you defend an objective). This would make defending a more popular option, especially if defending objectives gives you better rewards like Obsidian/Lodestones/Clovers.
154% from Luck, another 10 or so from AP. I’m getting it just by salvaging all blues and greens I get. (Need the mats for Ascended crafting, so it all fits together well.)
I bet the crippling bugs and negative feedback re: 2-2 has scared them off SAB for now. There was a post from Josh Foreman a while back noting the sharp decrease in player numbers for W2 vis-a-vis W1.
That said, I hope it comes back too.
I think this was it:
http://joshuaforeman.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html“Later in the day I casually asked the founder/president if we had any analytics about how many people were playing. Well collecting that kind of data seems to be really fun for him as far as I can tell, so we ended up working together to gather that information for a while. That was nice, except for finding out what I suspected based on my forum experience: the numbers are pretty dismal (Compared to the exceptional numbers of the first SAB) right now. I really hope that this patch will bring people back, but without the old reward schedule I don’t think it will happen. So I’m pretty bummed and feel like I let down the whole company and especially my team because I made some poor judgement calls as coordinator.”.
Perhaps the numbers were low enough they are hesitant to put in the SAB very often. They may want to let time go by so it’s new and fresh content for most people.
Hopefully they took the right lessons from that though. It wasn’t that people no longer liked SAB; it was the fact that World 2 was a lot longer, a lot less forgiving, and baubles got reduced so it became harder for people to farm for the rewards they wanted. More difficulty + less rewards naturally resulted in less people playing.
I strongly feel that part of what made World 1 such a success was because it was short and simple enough that you could just jump in with a group of randoms and still expect to complete it within a decent amount of time. (I got experienced enough that I could complete the whole of World 1 in under 10 minutes.) The more skilled players could also compensate for the less skilled by opening up shortcuts, or just letting them waypoint to the next checkpoint if they couldn’t make it.
World 2 did away with a lot of that, resulting in a more unforgiving atmosphere that scared off people who weren’t big fans of JP’s. I feel that the basic paths through the levels should be completable by almost all players (via the use of checkpoints and shortcuts), while more tricky achievements should be left for the JP afficionados. And then, for the real masochists/diehards, there’s Tribulation Mode.
Yep. And it doesn’t matter if it’s the same respawned Inquest over and over too. I once tried killing each specific Inquest, but it didn’t make a difference.
It’s used to get up onto the rock platforms nearby, where there is sometimes a Buried Chest during the sandstorms. IIRC, there is also a Lost Coin on that same rock platform.
Eh, I don’t think the term itself is offensive. It’s not really used in a pejorative sense unlike the “N” word.
Likewise, I’m Asian, and I’ve never felt offended by the term “Oriental” (in fact, I kinda like it. It sounds mysterious and exotic) or “Chinaman”. But if someone were to use it in a hateful tone towards me, that would rile me up.
You just have to keep on killing the Inquest across the water until the event updates. From experience, you have to kill about 20 – 25 Inquest for it to progress. It’s pretty slow if you’re not using the turrets/steam ogre.
The misconception might have arisen from players who are on servers that do well in WvW. The Gatherer bonus from WvW gives chances for extra strikes, and they might possibly have done their testing on a weekend, when the bonuses reset.
I like the Fractal Sword and Unspoken Curse, personally.
I even have a little RP history written in for the latter, since that was the sword my GW1 Warrior used. It was passed down through the generations, and is now wielded by my GW2 Warrior.
Trading is the great equalizer of RNG. It baffles me that we can’t trade the Fossils. :/
Because then you have an entirely DIFFERENT group of people stomping their feet on here complaining about how they had earned something unique that someone else just bought with a credit card.
No, I don’t know why that matters, but apparently it does. And enough people whined about it that account bound items such as this exist.
Yeah, and I think that it’s stupid too. I never understood the idea of getting something just because it’s rare. If ANet released a truly unique, “only one of its kind ever dropped in the game” armor skin, but it was basically a pink, orange and green clown suit with a “I AM A NO LIFER WITH TOO MUCH CASH!” flashing neon sign mounted on the back, would you wear it just because it’s unique?
^ Nope. That’s not true. Trust me, I do enough harvesting to be able to debunk the theory that the Watchwork Pick does not get extra strikes or bonus items, or have lesser chances of either.
Yep, the Biconic weapons, and the various unlimited tools, will probably make reappearances, so just keep an eye on the sales.
Actually, thanks for the reminder that I should stock up a little on Exquisite jewels, Wanze.
(As per my style, it’s for my personal use, not for resale, but I did some calculations a while back and figured it was WAY cheaper to simply buy the jewels rather than craft them myself.)
I bought 1500 Obsidian Shards for my r500 crafting.
Also, I stay away from Beaded weapons because it’s SO DARN ANNOYING buying those frickin’ Sun Beads 1 at a time. >.<
Certain materials have a “base” colour that is mixed with the colour of the dye upon application. For leather, it’s brown. For metal, it’s gray/silver. Not sure what it is for cloth. That’s why the dark dyes you’ve previewed all seem to have a brownish tinge.
As a personal suggestion, try Midnight Ice. That one is black with a bluish tinge, but when mixed with brown, it might result in a really dark black. You can also try Abyss, but Abyss dye is EXPENSIVE.
Yeah, I don’t understand either. It would be a nice karma sink, and also help ease prices a little on stuff like cloth and (some types) of leather, which are more difficult to farm.
Stuff like the Order gear and WvW Badges gear should be salvageable too. Those items cost more in gold than you’d get back in salvages over time; buying them purely to salvage would be a losing proposition.
Trading is the great equalizer of RNG. It baffles me that we can’t trade the Fossils. :/
The cost in gems for the Upgrade Extractor makes it uneconomical to salvage anything except for Infusions worth hundreds of gold though.
I’m sure it will be back.
Hopefully Josh took on the feedback we gave for World 2 though.
Just like in Guild Wars 1 when you saw a W/Mo and you thought, great, here’s another one. They ended up with a bad bad reputation.
Heh. This brings back memories on my Monk.
“Warrior, please stop using Healing Signet when you’re under direct attack. You just die faster. … NO, DON’T USE FRENZY WHILE YOU’RE HEAL SIGGING! -_-”
Hey, I LIKE my gritty old Legionnaire’s Rifle, thank you very much. :P In fact, I find myself wishing there were more detailed, black-powder style guns around rather than the sci-fi/magitech inspired trend we seem to be getting these days.
I find all this amusing. What happens is this. Players form more and more elitist groups to avoid having to teach new players/less experienced the ropes so that they can complete in the least time possible. This carries on for a while, then the most experienced get bored of this aspect of the game and move on, leaving a smaller and smaller pool of ‘elite’ players, who become more and more vocal about the lack of experienced players.
Guess what? They are complaining about something they themselves helped create. If you are forming pug groups, be willing to take longer and have to train up new people- occassionally you will find a real gem who in a few runs becomes better than you could ever hope to be.
This post deserves more than the single thumbs-up I could give it.
This exact same situation happened in GW1 with the Hall of Heroes PvP format too. Because people wanted to win, an unofficial “Rank 3+ players only” mentality set in where HoH players would only accept players who already had experience. This then led to a Catch-22 situation where newer players couldn’t ever get groups to gain the experience they needed. End result? They got discouraged/annoyed and left.
Over time, this then resulted in an extremely insular pool of HoH players, who then started complaining that it was just the same old teams running the same old builds over and over. Then the experienced teams started getting bored and left, exacerbating the problem.
New blood is VITAL to any game (or real life industry or society, for that matter). You need to have new people constantly coming in to replace those who leave due to boredom, because some shiny new game just came out, or pass away.
Yes, sometimes you just want to be in a fast, efficient group that works like smoothly oiled gears. But don’t neglect to teach the newbies too.
Actually, that’s not true, domness. When I got the achievement, we had to “reset” a few times because we accidentally made him explode, but we still got the achievement in the end.
This was a few months ago though. It’s possible they may have stealth-patched the achievement.
LOL, that there is why I never use Signet of Inspiration on my Mesmer either. I’m tired of her saying that she can outrun centaurs. :P
It seems that some people have reported successes by going in with a full group of 5 and rescuing all the NPCs (could be 18-21, from what I hear.) If you can’t wait for July 29th to get here, might be worth a shot.
For my part, I’ve tried a few times and couldn’t get it either. However, one thing I haven’t managed to pull off so far is ensure nobody dies in Concordia at the start AND I then rescue all 7 NPCs. Not sure if that might make a difference.
Wouldn’t work. The Tendril would have consumed the ghost/orb’s magic when you used it.
What’s stopping you from posting a LFG for the Living Story, OP? I see posts for them go up all the time.
You can solo the LS chapters, yes, but it goes a lot faster and easier if you’re in a group.
I’d prefer it if the Norn shapeshifting forms got reworked to be more like what it was in GW1; when transformed, Norn do not lose their existing skills. They just gain increased stats and possibly additional buffs depending on the form they choose. (e.g. Bear form gains increased Power and Vitality, a long-lasting Protection buff and inflicts Vulnerability on attacks, Raven gains Precision and Condition Damage, a long-lasting Stability buff and inflicts Blindness on attacks).
1. The Zephyrites do revere Glint, it’s true. But that worship doesn’t translate to support for the Elder Dragons. We regard them as “good” mostly because they have renounced violence and war and simply want to live a peaceful existence in the clouds.
2. We don’t know, but it seems likely that this mysterious cargo is what the Master of Peace is carrying.
3. It’s a new Zephyrite airship that wasn’t present during the last Labyrinthine Cliffs. It’s possible that it was constructed while the Zephyrites were in Cantha, and they gave it red sails as a nod to its origins.
4. All clues seem to suggest that Aerin wasn’t after the Master of Peace himself, but something he was carrying. Given how Mordremoth has been hunting for powerful magical artifacts to consume, it might be that Aerin was simply tasked with acquiring whatever powerful magical treasure the Zephyrites have so Mordremoth could eat it. This might be Glint’s skull, a relic from Cantha (Shiro’s swords?), or something else. We just don’t know at this point.
Yeah, I’m guessing Rytlock is trying to break the curse now because of the following possible reasons:
1. Remember that book in the Ley Line Hub that theorises that ghosts are just magical energy constructs? Imagine what would happen if Mordremoth went to Ascalon and gobbled up all those ghosts…
2. The Charr, already stretched from their war with the Flame Legion, Branded and Ghosts, are unprepared to deal with yet another faction to fight against. They desperately need new allies (or to remove an existing foe), and so breaking the curse might do both.
Rytlock might have just not done it before because he didn’t know how. (He’s a Warrior, after all, not a scholar or a mage. Not to mention the Charr as a general rule are pretty anti-magic.)
3. Mordremoth is hunting for powerful magical artifacts to eat. Sohothin is an INCREDIBLY powerful magical artifact. Maybe Rytlock decides that destroying it (via breaking the curse of the Foefire) is better than letting an Elder Dragon get his claws on it.
