Oh, Sonders is back? Thanks for the heads-up!
I’ve got some Candy Corn I’ve been waiting to convert into Cobs.
I sure hope that there will be a Gift of Ambrite mining node for our Home Instance in a future LS2 release. Getting enough Ambrite if you want to craft multiple Nomad’s items is going to be a real pain. >.<
If it’s the spot I’m thinking of, only ONCE in my well over 20+ times in that Fractal did someone suggest using that spot. The rest of the time we just ran around the hamster wheel. (We ended up having to do that anyway since it turned out the group was too squishy to survive the stack.)
I was a bit surprised by the revelation too, but eh, I can live with it. I filed it under the assumption that in the alternate reality shown to us by the Infinity Ball, it was the Asura PC who created the Steam creatures (and then presumably went on to succeed where Scarlet failed). In our reality, it was Scarlet who created them, and we ended up defeating her.
It’s not completely fixed. Most of the time it’s OK, but it seems there are one or two maps that are still having absolutely atrocious lag.
You can also cheese it a little by waiting on the platform with the lightning crystal until you see her health dip to about <40%. Then pop a long-lasting stability skill (e.g. Rampage as One or Tornado), leap over to the platform, and join the others in burning her down as fast as possible. That’s what I did for my achievement, after the crazy lag over the weekend basically frustrated all my attempts to get it normally.
Yes, make sure that you are in a PURPLE story instance. You can tell if you’re eligible for the achievements if you see a bunch of extra icons in your status bar, each giving more information about how to get the achievement.
In order to unlock the purple story instances, you need to have completed the LS2 on THAT particular character. If you complete the story once on your Ranger, for example, then try to do them on your fresh Warrior, they won’t unlock. Your Warrior must complete the story first himself. (It’s dumb, I know.)
Really now? That’s interesting to know. Thanks for sharing.
I like ensuring that he’s thoroughly moistened.
I’d prefer not to know what you want to do with a moist quaggan. :P
Yeah, the issue is not completely fixed. It’s better on some servers, but last night I had the most hideous lag on my Ele, even worse than before. I kept on constantly rubberbanding back into the mine despite having run out many, many times. I logged out, went into WvW (which was fine) for an hour, then went back into Dry Top and it was gone.
^ Yeah, we probably won’t get a Cactus node for that reason, as much as I WOULD like a little garden in my Home Instance with Passiflora, Cacti and Toxic Spores.
I also want to see a Gift of Ambrite mining node. That stuff is hard to come by. :/
I’m sure it must be an oversight.
I and my girlfriend completed the Gates of Maguuma this weekend. I am a highly skilled jumper who enjoys JP’s. She… isn’t. (Sorry, dear!)
I enjoyed the Aspect crystals for moving around the map. My girlfriend did not. (She didn’t like the Labyrinthine Cliffs much either.) However, we both agree that barring lag, getting through the map for the purposes of completing the story was quite easy. The jumps and movements aren’t particularly complicated, and 15 seconds is USUALLY enough to get it done once you know where you’re going.
The jumping puzzle/achievement is a whole different kettle of fish. It’s not as hard as the Clock Tower or Not So Secret, but the strict time limit of the crystals puts it on par with Skipping Stones, I believe. Once you’re experienced with it, you can get up to the top easily, but for players who aren’t good at JP’s I can see why it might be extremely frustrating. Thankfully, there seem to be no shortage of helpful Mesmers with portals around!
I’m still not convinced that the Sylvari are minions of Mordremoth, BUT… As plant creatures, they may be highly susceptible to his corruption in a way that the animal races aren’t.
I’m certain that it is the Pale Tree, via the Dream, that is protecting the Sylvari from the bulk of Mordremoth’s influence too. The jury’s still out on whether she’s a Dragon Champion, or simply a survivor of a plant race from the days of Giganticus Lupicus that fell victim to the Elder Dragons.
If that gap was just a bit shorter my Warrior could have Savage Leaped right over it.
There is still a bit of pressure, since you know that in 2 weeks, new achievements and new content will be here. There’s also the fact that the bulk of the player base will also “follow the crowd”, and thus if you wait too long to do the achievements, you might get into a position where you really have to struggle to get them done alone. (And let’s not forget the possibility for ANet to adjust achievements so that “cheap” ways of getting them are fixed too.)
Thus, it’s always best to get the achievements done as soon as possible. We do at least have the safety net of knowing that they will always be there though.
I like the Biconics. Far more than I do Destiny’s Edge or even the Order mentors. Although I will agree with you that we need a Sylvari in there. (Canach please!)
Two weeks is still a bit fast for me (I’d prefer a 3 week or monthly release schedule), but since the story is permanent now, I can live with it.
Not really. We can only Blink to areas that we can reach by running from our current position. We can’t even blink up small jumps. Maybe there are a few spots in the game where there is a way to run to the gap though (pathing glitches) and so it works there.
The rewards are good, and I like the fact that the achievements are here to stay permanently so people can complete them when they wish.
But I DO agree that having them locked out until you complete the entire story once is very annoying. (Not to mention that it’s character specific! Even after unlocking the achievements on my Mesmer, I can’t do the story on my Warrior and try for the achievements then. I have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN on my Warrior!) It smacks of “busywork”, of forcing players to do extra grind before they can get to the good stuff. It’s not a good feeling, ANet, and I hope you’ll look at changing this for future chapters.
I agree that this was likely done to prevent people from farming the story instances (the Inquest in “Disturbance” spawn continuously, for example, making them a superb source for level 80 bags/Crystalline Dust/Elaborate Totems if they dropped loot), but I also agree that it’s extremely, EXTREMELY annoying if you have your character/build setup to take advantage of kills. (My Demon Summoning sigil on my Necro, for example, which I picked for RP flavour, is completely useless!)
Maybe ANet can compromise by making it so these encounters DON’T spawn unlimited enemies. Make it so that the Inquest only send, say, 3 waves, and that’s it. That’s about 9 Inquest; you could get more than that just by going into the Abandoned Mine and and killing them all in a big circle. By the time you get back to the start, they’ll have respawned.
Lazarus the Dire, perhaps? The last surviving Mursaat is on a crusade to see the newer races wiped from the world, and the Elder Dragons are the perfect “weapon” to do this with.
From most to least favourite:
Skritt → Quaggan → Grawl → Hylek → Ogres
I thought I’d like the ogres more than I do, but that was before I actually did their Racial Sympathy story and learned they train their pets by essentially abusing them until they’re too terrified of the ogres to disobey. (I actually worked this into my Norn Ranger’s RP story; she was always fascinated by the Ogre’s legendary mastery over animals, but when she discovered the truth, she was repulsed.)
Would the karma tax be on top of the existing gold tax? Or a replacement?
There’s no tax on a buy order, so it would just be its own thing.
Exactly. Also note, that if you buy directly, you dnt have to pay karma tax, only buy orders. Selling, no matter if directly or through listings, also wont get karma taxed.
Ahhh, I got ya. Well then, provided if the karma faucets got turned up, I would not be against this, no. That said, it’d be kind of hard to come up with a good lore explanation for why we need to spend karma to use the TP.
Thanks for the info!
I like jumping and jumping puzzles, and I hope they won’t get removed either.
But that said, I do agree that perhaps an “Infantile” mode to get around the map is needed for those who, for whatever reason, are just not capable of using the Aspects or jumping. The vine walkways/ladders, or maybe a balloon pilot who takes you to different locations for a fee (he does it for free once you complete an event where you help him), are some possible ideas.
Since Mai Trin always uses her teleport on the player furthest away from her, might it be best if the party has one designated “tank” that always stays further away from her? This person needs to have frequent blocks (a Mesmer with the Malicious Sorcery trait and a Scepter can do this) or invulns to keep blocking Mai’s teleports, while everybody stays close’ish and ranges her, dodging to avoid the lightning as necessary.
The problem will be if Horrik starts targeting the tank and the party now can’t lure Mai into the lightning fields.
Would the karma tax be on top of the existing gold tax? Or a replacement?
Are you trying to trade your Molten Pick for a Watchwork Pick? (i.e. “I purchased the wrong pick from the Gem Store.”) If so, then their explanation is correct; you bought the Molten Pick when it was 800 gems and the new picks are now 1000 gems.
You could potentially ask for a 800 gem refund and then add another 200 gems of your own to make up the difference, although as far as I know, they are only offering refunds if you purchased multiple copies of the soulbound picks and now want to trade some back because they’re account bound.
Just saying..

So true.
The REAL ninjas, the effective ones who actually succeeded at their mission, were likely never seen at all.
It’s the same reason I don’t trust anyone who offers stock market tips for a fee. My reasoning is “if your tips are so darn effective, why don’t YOU use it yourself and earn the big bucks on it?”
In any case, buying up Orichalcum for 500 Jeweler is a mistake. The REAL demand will be for Silver, Gold and Platinum, judging by the Xunlai Electrum Ingots. Look at what happened to Gossamer/Silk as an example for people investing in the wrong item.
A couple of weeks ago a guildie got Mini Caithe from a BLC, so I’d presume they are still dropping.
They can also be purchased from the Zephyrite traders for Geodes and coin, although I’d wager that they are much cheaper on the TP.
It’s a shame that the cooking recipes don’t seem to be similarly available on the TP.
From what I’ve seen so far, the new cactus recipes are similar to the recipes that came from the Molten Facility dungeon. The recipes for the final dishes must be learned from recipes (purchased from the Zephyrite vendor), but the dishes typically require a secondary ingredient that is discovered through crafting, such as the Bowl of Prickly Pear Pie Filling.
All past Living Story soundtracks have been made downloadable before. Perhaps Maclaime simply hasn’t gotten around to doing it yet.
They could just change it so that you are no longer invulnerable when viewing vistas. Who would take a minute to ignore everything and look out over a glorious landscape when there’s 4 angry trolls clawing at your face?
While I’m loving the lore and new stuff to do so far, I do agree that locking the achievements until we complete the story once first is just plain annoying. It’s an obvious attempt to increase replayability, but it comes off feeling forced and artificial rather than a natural effect.
They are used in crafting the new TVH items, I hear.
I’ll confess. You got me.
It’s already in the Wardrobe (although strangely as “Iron Greatsword”). I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.
Great… As if we needed any more Sylvari-phobia in Tyria. >.>
Dibs on Zephyr-wroth! (and ZephyrWrath!)
I normally hate puns with a Blazing Light passion, but I have to admit that I got a good chuckle out of this one. Well done.
I’m glad that I bought Devona’s armor set for my Warrior before the Wardrobe as my Berserker set and got a full set of Strength runes for free.
Whats interesting was that i actually got nearly twice as much bloods as other mats (disregarding dust, as i use it quite alot). I had 73 Vials of Powerful Blood while i had all other mats in their 30´s.
So the droprates of blood might actually have been buffed and the reason why its still the most expensive one is just its high demand. Most of my drops came from wvw champ and loot bags, btw.
Hmm… For me, I have more Blood (about one-third again as much) than the other T6 mats too, but this is because I visit Southsun fairly frequently, and the Karka there drop Powerful Blood. It’s also why I have more Powerful Venom than the others, although not as much as Blood.
If you want to duel Wupwup you’ll need to go back to GW1.
Oooh, new cooking recipes for my collection!
Hopefully one day they’ll update it so that outfits also consist of individual parts. Till then, we can only dream.
Actually, I WOULD be interested in playing a game where every player can earn all rewards just by doing whatever content they enjoy. To do this, we’d need to do three things:
1. RNG is eliminated, and supply vastly increased. There are no truly rare things in the game. Players get a Precursor of their choice for completing their Personal Story (and another one for completing LS1, LS2 etc.) Stuff like Infinite Light may still require 250 Charged Lodestones, but now you always get a guaranteed Charged Lodestone from killing a level 80 Champion Air Elemental. If there is something you want, you look up what creature or activity drops it, and you go do it. From there, it’s just a matter of time.
2. Every single item in the game can be bought and sold on the TP. Nothing is account bound/soulbound. So if that skin you want is only available from SAB, and you absolutely HATE doing JP’s, you have the choice of buying it from someone who likes the activity and has oodles of the skin to spare.
3. All game activities reward the same amount of gold for the same amount of time. (Will probably need tweaking to ensure it remains in balance.) 1 hour of PvE rewards the same as 1 hour of PvP and the same as 1 hour of crafting.
Now, this will result in a game where you can expect the vast majority of players to be running around with the same, flashiest, most expensive gear. (But honestly, players already try to do that anyway.) Then again, I’m also the type of player to whom status or “bragging rights” or even uniqueness is irrelevant. I don’t care what another player is using, and I don’t care what they think of what I’m using either. I outfit my character to satisfy my own preferences and aesthetic choices. What other players do with their characters is their own business.
Many players may feel a game like this is pointless and/or ruined, but I’d still be happy to play it. Of course, I understand that I’m in the minority here, so I’m well aware ANet or any other game company would never take this approach. It would turn off far too much of the player base.
Aww, the new tracks can’t be downloaded.
Will that be changed soon?
