I’ve figured out that if the minions are moving when you launch your attack, there’s a high chance they will simply sit out the fight. This isn’t a big problem in PvE since you can normally just wait for your minions to catch up before starting the battle, but it’s a real headache in PvP/WvW when you should always be on the move. (I’ve lost a number of fights simply because my minions decided to play cheerleader instead of actually helping.)
I mean that players are obviously still able to pay the higher prices for Silk. If the market wasn’t capable of bearing the prices, you’d see a point where basically the players would dig in their heels and refuse to pay any higher. The fact that prices continue to increase means that people who want the Silk are still able to afford it.
Of course, whether those players are HAPPY paying those prices is another question altogether, and one that does need to be taken into consideration when evaluating the overall health of the game. If a player gets their item, but the experience makes them bitter and angry about the “grind” they had to go through to get it, that’s not really going to make them a contented player who’ll recommend the game to others.
Mithril requires less ore per ingot because it’s needed for Artificer, Huntsman, Weaponsmith, Armorsmith AND Jeweler.
I do agree with you that the requirement for Silk was over-corrected when they introduced Ascended armor though. I think that everybody, ANet included, underestimated the amount of players who are willing to craft Ascended armor sets. I would like to see the Bolts requirement drop down to 50 instead of 100, but it seems that the market IS capable of bearing the cost of Silk, so I doubt JS will intervene anytime soon.
I do think it’s possible that the rate of return for cloth scraps from salvage might get a boost though. An increase by 50% might help increase supply and ease prices, without being too unfair on those who crafted their Ascended armor early.
There’s never a night when I don’t get steamrolled by the enemy zerg at least once.
Rank 157. Got 1 Ascended chest (Ebonmane’s) and a couple of Ascended rings so far.
Move if you feel it’s in the best interests of your guild and your players. Guilds move between servers all the time for their own reasons. I can guarantee that most of your opponents do not care who they’re up against, at any rate.
It’ll probably be part of Entangled. Prosperity is under attack, and the gang rushes back to save Taimi.
If it had been 250 Geodes instead of Sand, I’d actually have considered buying it. When combined with the other items (especially the 15 BL Keys), it might actually have been worth it tossing ANet a bit of financial support this month.
To add to what Smooth said, you also need to take into account the desirability of the items themselves. The Lovestruck weapons likely never saw the popularity of the other weapon skins since a lot of male players will see these weapons as “uncool” or “girly”. (There’s a reason why dark, evil or flame-themed weapons seem to be so common. It’s what the majority of players like using.) Thus, demand for them is a lot lower.
I feel that the Chaos of Lyssa recipe is actually overvalued, since it’s a recipe, not a final item; even after purchasing one, you’d still need to shell out 15 Damask + extras to craft the final piece. Most buyers now are probably just speculators selling to each other. It’s likely that it will also be returning the next time the Gauntlet returns. There’s still profit to be made in speculating on it until such a time, but it’s an extremely risky item to invest in now.
A general rise in the value of Ecto and Precursors, yes. It might not seem it, but there’s actually a lot more players in the game working towards Ascended gear and Legendaries now, which also increases demand for Rares and Ectos.
Badges are easy to earn in EotM (no problem earning 250 -500 / hr or more if the commander has that goal in mind) and exotics earn T5/T6 materials, Ectos and Dark Matter…..it DOES make sense that you cannot use conventional Salvaging on them.
That being said, we DO need some method to obtain upgrades off these items without spending 250 gems / pop.
Unless I’m mistaken (haven’t checked the vendors in a while), the level 80 Exotics offered by the WvW vendors also cost gold in addition to the Badges. That actually makes them a poor choice to salvage for Ectos and Dark Matter, since there are actually cheaper Exotics available in the game (some of which also have valuable upgrades that can be resold to help recoup costs).
ANet has said that all the rewards from this LS will be permanent, and I would assume that includes the recipes as well. But yes, I imagine that once this chapter is over and the bulk of the player base moves on, it will be extremely difficult to get a T3/4 map for Dry Top. It’s why I’m grabbing all the T3/4 recipes now while I can.
I’m hoping there’ll also be an alternate way to get Ambrite, such as a Gift of Ambrite.
I see I wasn’t the only person to have that thought. Was it the description of the coffin with vines, that giant “mausoleum” in the trailer, and the similarity to Apocalypse’s (from the Marvel universe) immortality chamber that brought it on?
I also had the distinct feeling that we’ll fight our way to that chamber, it opens, and out steps Scarlet, with her little cackle. “Hello, everyone! I’M BAAAAAACK!”
Farmers don’t concentrate the wealth of the game if they are farming for their own use. The trouble is that it’s hard to distinguish between “subsistence farmers” and farmers who farm for profit.
The reason why prices for mats were so low at the start of the game was largely due to bots. Automated farm bots were harvesting thousands of mats every day and just pumping it into the economy in order to get gold to sell to players. Most bots have been banned now, and with the new ultra-high mat requirements for Ascended gear, prices for mats have steadily risen.
One of the personal story options is to save a crew member or leave him to his fate. if you save him you are warned that your sentimentality is a weakness that could get exploited (paraphrase).
Well, my mentor always told me to “always be loyal to your krewe”, so I followed that advice.
To add to what Dustfinger said above, the Asura value results. There’s an event in Metrica Province where a krewe gets kidnapped by krait, and it’s implied that if you hadn’t come along to rescue them, the krewe leader would simply have left the krewe for dead and hired some new krewe members. As angry as the rescued krewe are over their treatment, they also decide to continue working on the project “because we’re so close to a breakthrough!” The desire to succeed and learn more is so strong among the Asura as a race that there’s a part of every Asura that’s still eager for the results the Inquest obtain, even as they might recoil from the way the Inquest obtained it.

Thanks for the advice!
I’ve still yet to get into a T4 map; didn’t even know there was a Dust Monster event!
It’s subjective. I prefer the more direct portrait art loading screens like what we see in Brisban Wildlands, but that doesn’t mean that this abstract art is bad either.
^ That is very true. If you are ever stuck in quicksand, just stop struggling, relax and float, and call for help. You can even free yourself from quicksand if you have a stick, pole or some other device to help break up the suction around your feet.
Nah, the Tower Lords in EotM are leagues tougher than the ones in regular WvW. (As are the sentries and even regular guards. You can solo them, but it takes much longer, which means it’s usually better to just run past them.) I’ve soloed a Tower in Borderlands before, but I wouldn’t even dream of trying it in EotM.
Which is a bit unfortunate, really. There’s not much you can really do solo in EotM aside from capping Reactors. (On the flip side, I suppose it’s a good thing that it’s not hard to find a group in EotM.)
There’s also obviously the Nightmare Court.
Many Sylvari also go on Wyld Hunts, but I have a feeling theirs is not a formal organisation, more like a title they adopt while pursuing their Hunt. Wyld Hunters will cooperate with each other if their Hunts intersect or overlap, but otherwise do not have much to do with each other.
As Ashandar says, while the Arcane Council officially does not endorse or support the Inquest, they also turn a blind eye to a lot of their activities because sometimes their research, as cruel and immoral as it may be, is the only way to achieve breakthroughs in certain fields of science. It’s a case of “I’d like to use the results of your research, but I don’t want to be the one to dirty my hands to get it.”
In the case of the Norn and the Sons of Svanir, the Norn believe that each Norn has the right to their own beliefs and their own path in life. So long as they don’t cause trouble in Hoelbrak itself, the Sons are free to come and go. But if they assault or attack anybody, the Wolfborn will come down kitten them. Outside of Hoelbrak, each Norn can do as they please, but they are also responsible for whatever consequences they bring on their own heads as a result of their actions.
New gemstore item in August: Portable waypoints! Teleport to anywhere in the open world! Costs 4 silver per use.
@Wanze: Good point! I do tend to like “making my own” stuff, but you make a darn good argument.
@Electro: These high-end recipes are meant to help act as sinks to consume vast quantities of unwanted cooking ingredients. I have a suspicion that when r500 Chef is released, a lot of these recipes will actually get their requirement buffed to 450.
I’ve tried kangaroo and crocodile. Didn’t really like kangaroo meat; tasted extremely gamey. Crocodile was interesting, like a blend of pork and fish.
Yeah, there are still many different stats that are unavailable for Ascended trinkets. r500 Jeweler would address that. Crafted Ascended jewelry might also come with customisable upgrade slots, which might be worth it alone for min-maxers.
Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from, Wanze. While I still would like to see everything being tradable, it would no doubt harm the longevity of the game from ANet’s perspective if players could simply buy everything and “bypass content”.
That said, it’d be nice if players could earn money off their skill by selling rare skins/items that are only acquirable in certain game modes. For instance, as someone who loves SAB, I imagine I’d find plenty of buyers from people who want the Trib Mode skins (either to use or to complete their collection), but can’t stand playing jumping puzzles. Likewise, you could have someone who won the ToL, but has zero interest in miniatures and would prefer to sell the Mini Llama to a collector who might be willing to pay hundreds (thousands?) of gold for it.
My sympathies to you, OP, but I would also join the others in saying that not all “casual runs” are like that. I’ve been in some “casual runs” with guild groups who were, indeed, extremely casual, fun and just a little bit goofy. In my last PUG Fractal run, we got Maw as the final Fractal, and for whatever reason, Maw kept on targeting my Charr. -_- We all joked that Maw has a taste for Charr flesh.
The final irony? At the final blast, my Charr was the only one stuck without a crystal (again, he got targeted by Maw so my thrown crystal was the last one to get him down.) I joked that Maw was so adamant on killing my Charr one way or another that he suicided himself to get me dead.
There is some extra dialogue if you play an Asura with Infinity Ball story, while inside Scarlets Room
Not exactly. You get some different dialogue with Taimi if you’re an Asura (she says that the designs of the Steam Minotaur are crude, inferior to even stuff a Progeny could create, and your PC replies by saying, “She is Sylvari. We are Asura.”), but nothing specific about the Infinity Ball. (My PC picked the Infinity Ball storyline.)
Hey everyone,
I talked to the designers today and we’re going to address this issue. Jewelers should be able to craft sheets of ambrite in a future update.
Sorry for the inconvenience for now
Thanks for the update, Paul. I trust that armor crafting professions will also be included, given that they need Sheets of Ambrite to craft the insignia too?
As mentioned above, I think that locking out the achievements until you’ve completed the story once is stupid, but I actually don’t mind them being character bound, since you actually get the rewards for each story instance on each character you complete it with.
Permanent: About 9k
Daily: ~6200
Monthly: ~1200
But I’m not really competing with anyone. I enjoy getting the chests, so I’m doing my Dailies and Monthlies until I hit the cap, but after that I’ll just do whatever activities necessary to get the reward.
There is a well in Prosperity, so presumably there is indeed a water table beneath Dry Top. There might be an underground river running across the map just beneath the surface.
The “Quicksand” could also be a sand trap, although it wouldn’t “flow” across the landscape the way we see it in-game.
It’s also worth mentioning that the difference in rewards for T3/4 Dry Top isn’t that remarkable. The gold cost for the recipes and items remain exactly the same at all tiers; only the geode cost goes down. So for Dry Top, at least, it’s not of absolute importance to achieve the higher tiers. If you’re just after all the cooking recipes, you can simply get them at T3. It’ll cost you a bit more Geodes, but you’ll probably get that in your repeated farm attempts to reach T4 anyway.
I am on NA servers, yeah. But I should probably add the caveat that I’m still playing on the 1-9 and 11-15 level ranges, where I’m more likely to get PUGs with relative newbies. It might be a completely different story at higher levels.
On a related note, on my last Fractals run, someone FINALLY showed me how to bug out Mossman in the water. (I knew it could be done, but again, prior to that run, we had always just fought Mossman the normal way.)
(edited by Zaxares.5419)
Magus Falls was always marked on the map since launch. However, if this LS is indeed about Mordremoth (and it likely is), then yes, I agree we will no doubt be going further west.
Yeah, I have a feeling that that little non-symmetrical top-left corner of Dry Top will be getting revealed in next week’s chapter. I don’t know if we’ll be getting a whole new map just yet.
Aha! I knew there had to be a reason behind it.
Well, once I do reach my personal “hoarding threshold” for Candy Corn Cobs (I am NOT stockpiling 1500 Cobs…), I’ll see about crafting some of these for some extra income then.
The idea of a monster that’s drunk all the water in a normally fertile region is actually a pretty common trope in many myths. But the bit about cutting open the monster and having the water flood everything away was new to me.
I liked the story though.
Nice moral.
What was the IP of the servers you guys were on? I ask because every time I’ve been experiencing lag (sometimes HIDEOUS lag), it’s been on a server IP starting with 64. I’m wondering if perhaps it’s a hardware failure on that particular server that’s causing all the issues.
Everyone gets a free Black Lion Weapon Ticket!
Aye, but it’s still a tedious process to get it. You’ve first got to do events to farm geodes, then trade those in for Lockpicks, then wait till a sandstorm, then go chest hunting. At least with the Toxic Spores you can just go harvesting around Kessex Hills, any time, any day.
Then again, Nomad’s gear doesn’t seem to be very popular, so maybe prices will start falling in the future. I’m just worried that, after the mass exodus from Dry Top as the Living Story moves on, there won’t be enough players left in Dry Top to really create a sustainable supply of Ambrite.
checks prices
Hmm… Thanks for the tip. I wonder why that particular ice cream is so pricey though…
Even non-green coloured plants can have chlorophyll in their skin, you know. There are plenty of non-green plants in real life that can photosynthesize just fine. They just don’t look green due to a prevalence of different colour pigments.
I was originally under the impression that she’s good at telling when people are lying due to her courtly upbringing. All those years of Machiavellian politics and double-speak would pay off now.
I don’t believe the Master of Peace is evil or corrupted. He’s obviously hiding something, but I’m more inclined to believe that he’s doing something to fight the Elder Dragons or deny them a source of power. If he is, as some speculate, carrying an egg of Glint’s, then perhaps Mordremoth (or whoever drove Scarlet/Aerin insane) wants it for their own purposes.
It’s actually the Player Character who presumes Aerin is a Soundless, this being due to the note left about him leaving the Pale Tree and his voice becoming sole in the cacophony.
Actually, the diary segment talks about him listening to one voice rather than the cacophony. You can interpret that one voice as either his own voice or the same voice he’s hearing when we finally meet him. Maybe someone can post up the exact text.
The exact quote is “I turn my back on you, Mother. My solo voice of truth shall drown out the cacophony of fools. – Aerin.”
The interesting bit is, if your character is a Sylvari, you immediately recognise this as a common meditation mantra used by the Soundless. So it’s not just the PCs presuming that Aerin is a Soundless. What’s truly odd is how Aerin felt the need to sign his name to it though; perhaps they do it as part of a “pledge” to strengthen their commitment to distancing themselves from the Dream.
I’m also convinced that it’s the same Entity talking to Aerin as was talking to Scarlet. His lines sound like he’s having a conversation with someone in his head, and Scarlet’s holologs back in the Dead End bar show her telling someone to get out of her head.
It seems like Aerin succumbed to this being’s influence much faster than Scarlet did, since he didn’t have the great intellect and strength of will she did.
You craft them in the Mystic Forge, or buy one from Fractals and upgrade it in the Forge. See below for more information.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Equipment#Backpieces
As of now, the cheapest one is probably still the Spinal Blades.
I’m hoping that a subsequent LS chapter will introduce a Gift of Ambrite mining node. But failing that, I’d like to see one in the gemstore; gathering enough Ambrite is proving to be quite a chore. :/
^ Same here!
Still waiting patiently for the magical day of 100 gems for 10g.
