But don’t they fundamentally come from the same source? Gems on the gem exchange were initially created when a player bought them with cash, and then sold them on the exchange. I can see your distinction, but it seems to be just a matter of how you’re looking at it.
I think that increasing the amount of cloth scraps obtained from salvage by 50% might be a way of easing their scarcity. However, as I said in another thread, it looks like the market IS capable of bearing current cloth prices, so odds are low we’ll see any changes anytime soon.
The “taxing into gold/silver” refers to the Boss Blitz event in the Crown Pavilion. It means that there is a group of people making an organised attempt to get the Gold/Silver reward for the event, and they are taxi’ing (i.e. bringing people into) into the instance, sometimes for tips or payment.
Some other common words you’ll see in LFG:
Zerk only – They are looking for people who use only Berzerker stat Exotic gear as equipment. Sometimes you’ll also see “ping gear” with these groups. It means they want you to link your gear (shift+click) to prove that you’re actually using Berserker gear.
Exp – Short-form for “experienced”. This means that you’ve done the dungeon before and know what to do. Usually this means you’re also familiar with common skips (running past certain mobs).
EDIT:
Swamp for daily – You’ll see this in Fractals. Because the Fractal Runner daily requires you to complete only a single Fractal to complete it, some people will just run a fast Fractal at level 1 to get the Achievement Point and then leave. These groups run Swamp as it’s the shortest Fractal.
P1/2/3 – These indicate the dungeon paths that are being done by the group. Each dungeon has 1 to 4 paths, and some are much easier than others.
Twilight Arbor is different in that it has Forward, Up and Aetherblade paths instead of the usual 1/2/3.
Story – These groups are doing the Story Mode of the dungeon.

I would SO love for these runes to be tradable.
Or at least account bound. There are workarounds for getting the soulbound runes to another character you want to use them on, at least.
^ Heh. I sometimes do the opposite if people are trying to gank me. One time 3 guild players downed me a short distance before I managed to flee into a Tower. But, being an Ele, I simply hit Mist Form and ran inside, then bandaged myself. I then ran up to the walls where they were still hanging around outside. They /laughed and /beckoned at me, but I just /disagreed and /danced on the walls in response. Then I mapped back to the Citadel. :P
I’m neutral on open field siege. It costs supply to deploy, which means having to make resupply runs or have less supply available for taking Keeps/Towers later. If a group feels the sacrifice is needed to achieve victory, why shouldn’t they make use of it?
Although if people start building siege to deal with one lone roamer, then yeah, I might roll my eyes at it.
Don’t Ascended armor boxes only drop one piece out of the set?
Still slowly working towards mine (for 5 characters, no less!), but I see lots of people in the game with Ascended armor skins, so the answer must be yes.
I stockpiled a vast quantity of Ascended mats back when they first started dropping, but I only recently reached the stage where I could start refining them. I’m up to 40 Bloodstone Bricks, 23 Dragonite Ingots and 38 Empyreal Stars. I still have enough raw mats on my mules for way, WAY more than that. (Good thing too, because I calculated I’ll need approximately 190 of each for all my Ascended crafting.)
Hey, that second quote in the OP’s post was me! I’m famous!
(Guy here, btw, so not a fangirl.)
But as the others have said, there’s evidence throughout the game world that inter-species attraction and relationships DO happen. It’s just quite rare. That example with the two women commenting on the two passing Norn, for example? The two women are Sylvari, not human.
In Lornar’s Pass on Jetsam Isle, there’s also an Asura mate whom you can speak to when the pirates are friendly. He says he left Rata Sum because he wasn’t quite smart enough to be liked there, but now that he’s among bookahs, they’re not smart enough to recognise his (relative) genius compared to them. There’s another Asura in Rata Sum who says she’s not interested in krewes or research. She just wants to move to Divinity’s Reach and sell baked goods.
So by extrapolation, there must be other Asura who just don’t fit in with the rest of their kind and seek companionship among other races. Probability alone suggests some of those relationships must end up being romantic in nature.
Traditional Charr also don’t seem big on formalised relationships. “As long as it doesn’t interfere with your duties, anything goes” seems to be the prevailing attitude.
But don’t worry, you won’t see any slashfic or adult stuff here on the official forum. That kind of stuff is against the TOS.
I do agree that Silk was overcorrected back when Ascended armorcrafting was introduced. They probably could have left it as 2 scraps → 1 bolt and had the 100 Bolts per Damask change, or increased it to 3 scraps → 1 bolt and kept the 50 Bolts per Damask in line with other T7 mats.
However, it seems like the market IS capable of bearing the Silk prices, despite what we as players might feel about it, so I doubt we’ll see a correction anytime soon. (As much as I’d like one personally.)
As much as I agree with you tolunart, I disagree that the original seed of gems have been exhausted and we are only trading on player bought gems now. I would expect greater swings though the day if that was true.
I said “most likely” because I suspect this, but don’t know for sure. I guess I should follow my own advice once in a while:
Keep in mind that thousands of transactions happen every hour, the gems/gold supply is in the billions, at least, and working with numbers like that is a little different than handling a few hundred or thousand.
I did ask JS once if he could give us some info about the amount of gold being traded to gems and vice versa on a daily basis, but he declined on the basis it would be extremely valuable information to gold sellers. (Understandable!)
However, I do know of a few cases where players purchased large amounts of gems (one guy traded in 20,000 gems!) and it didn’t even cause a wobble in the exchange rate. The amount of being traded must be extremely high indeed.
Wish those recipes were tradable. I have a spare Rune of Tormenting recipe on my mule that I no longer need (already learnt it) and would love to sell to someone who does.
A sense of accomplishment is entirely personal. For example, back in GW1 I earned my Legendary Survivor title the hard way, by taking my Paragon through all 3 campaigns, both NM and HM, and doing every single quest along the way. Even the super dangerous ones. I eventually got it halfway through Nightfall. (For the record, my Paragon continued being a survivor all the way until he went into the Domain of Anguish. Curse you, Lord Jadon!)
Then EotN came out and the title got trivialised by Fronis dungeon speed clears.
Am I upset about it? No. I have the satisfaction of knowing that I got my title the hard way. That’s something nobody else can ever take away from me. What does it matter how other players got their title or shiny? I really don’t care what they do or what they have. They can have their fun in their own way; it doesn’t affect my own enjoyment. If somebody spends 2000 gold or long hours grinding to get a bow that shoots rainbow unicorns, my only reaction is “Enjoy it.
”
So, something odd happened last night. I got disconnected during a TTS Teq raid and was spamming on my party members to try and get back in. I did manage to get back in at the start of the very last burn phase, and much to my surprise, “That Had to Burn” got unlocked for me.
I’m not sure if the achievement got fixed at some point, or whether it was a fortuitous bug in my favour, but I just thought I’d update this thread in case other people were having the same issue as me.
The Lament actually got changed in the last update. It has more orchestral instruments now.
Yes, it’s not coming anytime soon, but a dev quote said it was “a matter of when, not if”.
You can report players for verbal abuse if their messages to you are particularly bad (e.g. they involve racist, sexist language). Once that’s done, it’s up to ANet’s support staff to take the next step.
Games come and go, but players always remain the same.
At the end of the day its just a skin. A skin that doesn’t have status like a Ferrari car would have. I see several legendarily everywhere in town. In fact they kind of just blend in for me now and I say meh when I see them on people. A Ferrari I rarely see so you now better understand the limited status a legendary has. For myself the skin is not high enough quality for the cost. For 3000 gold I would have to have something so good that everyone in town is in awe of what I am holding. Current legendaries do not do that.
The thing is though, even if you DID have some super-ultra-rare skin, the majority of players still would not care. They want other people to pay attention to THEM.
As an example, I had somebody ask me just yesterday where I got my Fiery Dragon Sword skin from. He wasn’t interested in how I looked; he just wanted to know where he could get one for himself.
So at the end of the day, get Legendaries or other expensive skins if YOU like the look of them. I guarantee that the vast majority of GW2 players will be unimpressed by you, no matter what you’re using.
^ And that’s why Hotjoin continues to be so popular.
We had the same issue back in GW1 with HoH where you basically weren’t allowed in teams unless you already had Rank 3, but the only way to actually earn ranks was to do HoH. So it was a catch-22 situation where the newbies weren’t allowed to gain the experience they needed. The high-end PvP scene thus got so insular that it just became the same small amount of teams fighting each other, and it eventually died from lack of new blood as older teams got bored and moved on to other games.
It was telling that Random Arenas (the equivalent of Hotjoin in GW1) was played more than every other PvP mode in GW1 combined.
Ah! That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.
I tend to swing between being an ISTJ and an ISFJ, so between Logan and Braham.
And if the price DOES get that crazy, either something is SERIOUSLY wrong with the gold faucets in the game, or players are even more super-stingy beasts than I anticipated.
… Now I kinda wish that different accessories/rings/amulets were visible on your character. XD
Sometimes a player can be much more effective by running instead of fighting. Maybe they’re luring you to a place where they have the advantage (terrain, NPCs, cooldowns have reset), or maybe they are just so mobile they know you can’t catch them, and when you give up the chase, they’ll be back tapping keeps or killing yaks. Or maybe the 5 people that peeled off the zerg to try and kill you is 5 less attackers for the Keep.
In any case, a kill for you means points for your server, so why wouldn’t they try to stay alive to help their server?
If you are dead set on killing enemies while roaming, then it behooves you to have ways of pinning the enemy down so you can finish them.
Good luck, and have fun in whatever new games you’re heading to. I’ll try not to hold a grudge against you for the times you guys ganked me when I was trying to catch up to the zerg.
Interesting idea… I presume the weapon skins are the Hero/Mistforged skins? If so, I’d support it.
You might think you’re taking the high road by ignoring your teammate’s chat, but really your just being an inconsiderate kittenhead. Rated matches are competitive and competitive play requires communication. By not communicating, you’re the one being that guy and frustrating your teammates. Not the other way around, even though it might suit your assumed “moral high-ground”.
Depends on how they said it. A request of “More to defend center pls” will get acknowledged. A request of “Get your Kitten Racial Epithet to center u Kittening scrubs!” will get ignored.
Eh? Wha? Come on. Don’t do that to me man. An argument requires I keep going back and forth with you on stuff.
I wanna be content to write off this thread as a guilty pleasure. :P
I think Pyre was a decent guy charr-wise, absolutely extraordinary given the time period. You don’t. We agree on some things and disagree on others.
Your arguments and reasons are your own and I’ve laid out why I think the way that I do.
See, this is how people can come to understandings despite being on opposite positions.
I agree with you that Pyre did some extraordinary things in his time; my feelings on him notwithstanding, there’s no denying the impact he had on Charr history.
We’ve said our pieces, and there’s really not much more to add. Pyre did what he did, and the only person who really knows what his motivations were is himself. At the end of the day, any speculation about it is purely academic in nature.
We know Logan’s obviously a descendant of Gwen, and the fact that Steve Blum does Pyre… I’d totally bet Rytlock is a descendent of Pyre. It would just be beautifully ironic.
Mmm, I don’t know. Wasn’t there an NPC in GW2 who claimed descent from Kalla Scorchrazor? I don’t remember much details, but I do seem to recall an NPC mentioning it. If Rytlock was indeed descended from Pyre, I’d have thought more people would have mentioned it.
@Nicholas: Out of curiosity, what does the “HRH” in HRH Jennah stand for?
I think the Molten Jetpack and the Spinal Blades backpieces seem to suit the Charr aesthetic the best. (The Slickpack too if you’re an Engi.) However, my Charr is a max-size beast and most backpieces look too small on him. (The Jetpack looks like a toy, for instance.) I ended up using the Spinal Blades on him since the “wingspan” at least looks large enough.
@Audrixy: It could happen. Most Asura are attracted to brains, and Charr are attracted to strength/ferocity, but it’s a big, wide world out there. Somewhere out there I’m sure there’s a Charr who wants a cute little Asura partner for his very own.
For the record, my male Charr is currently in a relationship with a female human.
1st July. So you have about one more week.
Must be RNG. I’m getting more Silk than Leather. Not a huge difference, by any means (about 60:40 in favor of Silk), but it’s noticeable in my material storage.
With regards to Sam, I’m guessing it’s for players who really, really, REALLY like the idea of wearing a rabbit as an earring. XD
Sometimes a player does score for the wrong team by mistake. (I’ve done it a few times.) If they keep on doing it multiple times even after being told though, I agree it’s rather crass. There should be a Dishonorable tag for Activities as well.
I just adapt to the situation as necessary. Sometimes stacking will work well, and other times the PUG stacks and then wipes to a boss for some reason. If it’s obvious that, for whatever reason, stacking is not going to work, then I propose we just spread out and range/melee the boss as we prefer. Most of the time ranging works just as well; it just takes a bit longer.
If the gold rewards from dungeons are removed, there also needs to be a matching increase in the drop rate of the rare/expensive mats that players are after in order to keep the economy in balance. Otherwise, all that will happen is that the wealthy players will become even more wealthy as they have the existing capital to buy up and hoard desired items and make things even more miserable for the average player.
Don’t give up! Look back at your very first post in this thread about how you couldn’t even beat Halmi. And now you’re up to Liadri and are getting pretty close to killing her. You can do this.
If necessary, eat some food/nourishment and use any spare Damage/Armor/etc. Boosters you’ve got to give you a bit of extra edge to get you over the line.
My feelings on Scarlet notwithstanding, I agree Tara is an amazing voice actress. She also did the Announcer in the Crown Pavilion, and her “Five, Four, Three, Two, One!” line is so incredibly done.
There’s two possible bugs here which both have arguments for being valid:
1. You have BL on a land weapon, but not on the underwater weapon. Build 25 stacks on land, jump into water. Stacks disappear.
2. You have BL on an underwater weapon, but not on your land weapons. Build 25 stacks underwater, head onto land. Stacks remain.
So there’s an inconsistency here. Either the land → water is bugged and the stacks SHOULD remain (you haven’t unequipped your land weapon with the BL sigil, after all), or the water → land is bugged and the stacks should disappear (ANet intends for us to have a BL sigil on both our land weapons and our underwater weapons.)
The answer we need from ANet is, “Which scenario is correct?”
Yeah, it’s corrupted textures. I had a similar bug last week, except it was affecting all dolyaks. Bright pink dolyaks everywhere in WvW!
I echo LadyTrouble’s advice. If there’s a specific POI you need, try asking your Commander if they can direct the zerg to that location. Often, they’ll oblige if the place is one that can be captured without too much hassle.
Each week, check to see what colour you are, and take advantage of it to map all the areas (inside Keeps, Towers etc.) you can reach easily. The most annoying part is waiting for your server to get assigned the colour you need.
Yeah, those are items that were likely bought from vendors and can’t be salvaged. (They should have made those unable to be traded too, to protect players from getting scammed like this.)
Is it possible to still throw those items into the Mystic Forge? Might be a way of at least recouping some of one’s losses.
I do prefer names in MMOs to be “lore-appropriate”, but at the same time… It’s an MMO. I KNOW there’s going to be stupidly named characters on every corner. (Sometimes they’re even genuinely amusing, like the time 7 giant Norns all named “<Colour> Mustache” with a matching colour mustache showed up at Vigil Keep and were dancing at the bank. XD)
At the end of the day, if it’s genuinely offensive, report it. Otherwise, just ignore it and get on with your gaming.
Ahh, for the good old days when we could just blame the Monk every time we wiped in GW1.
Traps consume supply to construct though. Whenever you build a trap (much less loads of traps) you also have to take into account the possible tradeoff of not being able to repair or build siege later.
Unless the player who got rebalanced then goes back into Spectator Mode because they’re annoyed at being forced onto the “losing team”.
On some nights, it feels like Spectator Wars is an alternate mode of PvP. :P
“Mounts” already exist in the form of the Witch’s Broom and the Sonic Tunneling Tool. Fundamentally, I have no problem with more of these cosmetic movement devices being introduced, so long as they don’t grant an innate speed boost.
That said, I do agree that Mesmers and Guardians (to a lesser degree) badly need a perma-25% speed boosting skill or trait.
Quick question: is there an armory or something for GW1? Cause I saw this amazing person in one of the cities and I want to know where they got those black wings. Also… I want those black wings in GW2. o_o
It’s pretty awesome how a nearly 10 year old game can still make players go “OMG that’s awesome!” with its graphics.
