Saw a character called “Meat” and his pet was called “And Two Veg”
WvW is literally a ghost town. It’s gotten quieter over the weeks, to the point where it’s just empty. It’s so disappointing, because WvW was the thing I was wanting to do most in GW2.
The PvE gets stale after you get lvl 80, finish the story and do the lvl 80 zones a few times. sPvP, well I don’t think I need to even mention anything about that. The PvP forum is all you need to look at there.
I just logged out after running around EB for a bit. There was about 3 other players that I saw in Map Chat. I hate to say it, but there’s little reason for me to play the game any more. WvW doesen’t seem to be an option in the game, as there’s no players there to actually make the mode work.
Reminds me of a Thief player in a game I played. They were trying to take our home node, so I went to stop them. I beat them, killed them off when they were in the down state, then literally 5 – 6 seconds later, she appeared on the point again and I had to fight, but ended up losing as her team mates came along.
I think the question has already been answered here, and pretty much everywhere else. Guys find women aesthetically pleasing to look at, so they’re drawn to making female characters. No matter how far people try to look into it, that’s basically the answer.
However, out of the 5 characters I have, 2 are female, I don’t really play the female characters. I mainly play as my Necro, Ranger and Ele (they’re my male characters). I prefer to play the game as a male character, as I’m a guy.
This sounds like fun.
I don’t think anyone else can actually top this one lol. Your picture literally sums up how all the classes really are :P
I really felt like not logging on the game again last night. Another bad losing streak from solo q. Like others have mentioned, it feels like it always puts you in with the new PvPers, then puts you against dragon ranks.
I’ve noticed that I always get matched up with duplicate classes too, such as 2 Thieves, no Elementalists, but the enemy team ALWAYS has at least 1 Elementalist, sometimes they even have 2.
I don’t blame the new PvPers, they’re new and learning the game, but it’s really frustrating when you get teamed up with people that just run to the enemy home node, get killed, don’t defend home or mid, don’t listen to instructions etc. There also seems to be a lot of quitters/AFKers.
A Thief decided straight away that the game was lost. Right at the beginning of the game, literally right when the game started before any nodes had been captured, he/she just said “I hate this game
”, and just AFK’d at the spawn point.
I love GW2 but this is getting so frustrating, that I’ve considered not bothering with PvP anymore.
I noticed over the weekend, that I’ve been having pretty bad match-ups. Whenever I’m trying to commuicate with the team, they just flat out ignore most of the time, especially in Stronghold.
I think I’ve had 2 games where 1 player actually worked with me and helped out. At the start of the game, I’d say “I’m going to defend, anyone else going to come whilst the others attack?”. They don’t listen or make a suggestion, instead they all just run straight to the supply and start fighting.
I’m usually a very calm player that doesn’t get angry when losing, as that’s part of the game, but man this weekend has been awful. One clown on my team said in team chat “Man we’re losing. Noob team.”, so I pointed out to him, maybe we wouldn’t lose if he’d communicate instead of running around like a headless chicken and actually listen. Ironically he was only rank 17.
Went a bit off topic there, but yeah the matchmaking seems to have just been terrible this weekend for me.
I don’t know, I’ve never queued up with a premade team, I’ve always solo’d and I seem to be winning more than losing.
But either way, I don’t play with the intention of really beating the other team, I play to just play.
I dont see many Sylvari Necros.
Are there lesser played combos?
I play a Sylvari Necro and I see a lot of them.
I think the biggest limitation with the Human males, is that a lot of the options are “pretty boy”. Like people have already suggested, Norn males have a selection of beards, that would be pretty cool for Human males to have. Instead we have a very tiny selection of facial hair.
I wanted my character to have a beard, like Aragorn’s from Lord of The Rings. I remember being in character creation for a while, trying to make the character how I wanted.
Like I said before, my character turned out alright, but he ended up looking more like Dante from Devil May Cry. Nothing wrong with Dante, he’s cool and all, but overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with the lack of “different” customization options.
Speaking of armour, do we have any for guys that looks like this? http://www.writeups.org/img/inset/Maxi_SC_h5.jpg

I never got the whole trend in making over sexualized eye candy female characters in mmorpgs. Yeah yeah I know, you would rather be staring at that all day than a dude but I never really understood why you would want to be doing that in a mmorpg anyway.
I always have, and always will choose the most gritty looking, angriest looking, dude character I can. To me that is what feels appropriate for a character in a game where I’m running around with cool weapons slaughtering all sorts of stuff.
I think this trend has really gotten out of control in the last couple of years. Games like Tera I cant even play certain classes because I just don’t want to be running around as a softcore cartoon porn character.
I dunno maybe I’m out of touch but I don’t want to be or get aroused in any way while playing a mmorpg….if that was my goal id just google image search something real and nice and look at that while I game…but again, pvp, clearing content, farming, these are things in a mmorpg I can do and I don’t need to have a “semi” during.
So yeah its all strange to me tbh. I would much rather have more interesting character creations than be in a game where (and it really is like this in most games) a majority of the player characters are over sexualized pieces of eye candy.
I agree that it does seem a bit “creepy” that people would make a character, based on the reason of wanting to oogle a woman. I’ve always made characters that I perceive as “cool”. With Guid Wars 2, that’s a Human Ranger and a Sylvari Necromancer (they’re my mains).
I remember when it was pretty rare that guys would play as girls, now it seems to be the complete opposite lol. Oh well, I’m not here to judge, each to their own. It would be interesting to see what personalities the guys that make females vs the guys that make males are.
But back on topic, yeah I really would like more stuff for the guys to choose from. I like my character’s current apprael, but I’d like to change them up a bit, as a lot of the stuff I’m not really that fond of. New hairstyles would be great, new armour pieces that we can mix and match is always very welcome.
Some cool armour with some crazy designs would be pretty cool, maybe like some kind of spikey armour, or something with a demonic design on it etc. I know Arena Net work a lot on stuff, but it really feels like the males get the bad end of the stick, in comparison to the females, with regards to customization. Maybe I’m imagining it, but I really would like more male options.

Honestly I beleave (My opinion that is) that making umm… More armor to make males look better will not have that big of impact. Yes it is as Zaoda says that there would be nice for more jackets, shirts, vests and stuff for medium armor and less robes for Light and so on. (This goes for females too actually)
I don’t think though that that will change the fact that the playerbase is mostly male and most males do like girl and thus rather like to see a girls behind rather than a males behind when they run around in the game.
About the hair, I realy like the human male hair and I am pretty sure that there will be more in the future.
I’ve never got the whole “rather see a girl’s behind” reasoning behind playing a female character. It just seems like the default response to the question “Why are you playing as a girl?”. I’m zoomed out as far as possible whilst playing, so I can actually see all the action around me. Zoomed in at your character’s butt is going to reduce how effective you’re performing.
There’s nothing wrong with guys playing a female character, but that reason has become one of the biggest cliches out there =P
It’s funny you mention that the majority of people play female characters, with the skimpiest clothing. The other day I was looking around and thinking “They should’ve called this Girl Wars 2. I’m surrounded by an army of Human females, all wearing the most revealing armour combinations, fighting in a huge scale war. Is this a fashion shoot or a game about fighting dragons?”. I swear for every 1 male character, there’s about 15 female, the majority being Human female =P
Back on point, I agree that more attention should be put on the male characters. I’m happy with my characters. They turned out pretty cool. However, I only found one hairstyle that I liked on my Human. As you pointed out, a lot of the hairstyles just look the same for the males. I was more impressed with the Sylvari character creation than the Human male. I don’t know what the female Sylvari customization is like, as I didn’t look at it when I made my Sylvari.
The armour, I agree on, but I think the medium armour in general is pretty bland. Just trench coats and not much else. The heavy armour and light seems alright, but I guess it would be nice for us guys to have something other than robes for light armour.

The phrases do get a bit annoying to hear all the time. I’ve noticed the majority of the time, I always hear the human female phrases being shouted constantly. I guess that’s because the majority of players tend to play human females.
Those human female Guardian shrieks get reeeeeeeeally annoying, and I don’t even play a human female Guardian :P. If I’m on my own I only have to suffer the human male phrases and the Sylvari male phrases. I don’t mind the Sylvari male phrases though, I think the voice is great.
But yeah, it would be nice to be able to turn those phrases off, if only to stop hearing those Human female shrieks everywhere lol.
I’ll have to disagree and say that Guild Wars 2 is NOT P2W. The only money I’ve spent on the game, is actually buying the game itself. I’ve never bought anything from the Gem Store or bought gold etc, and I have no problem beating other players (unless of course they’re a better player than me) in the game when fighting other players, or doing anything in the game.
P2W means you literally pay money to stand a chance in say, PvP for example. I can’t say that Guild Wars 2 requires you to pay money to stand a chance against other players.
Yes I think WvW really could do with some incentive to play it, like people have already said, a reward track system. I rarely see people defending in WvW. The only time I ever see players defending, is when there’s a guild roaming group on the map and they have scouts roaming about, telling them where the enemy players are attacking.
The majority of the time, it just seems to be a game of musical chairs. Capture keep, run to next one, capture keep, run to next one etc, without any defending. They just let the enemy players take their keeps. It’s a real shame, as WvW was the most exciting thing when I heared about it. I couldn’t wait to take part, but the end result was a bit….. underwhelming.
Oh man, the way you handled that Human Female Thief on the birdge was great! I’m not that good of a Ranger player and Thieves are my kryptonite, but you really destroyed that one and the other Thieves. I’m really bad at guessing where the thief is when they go into stealth.
I’d love to see you make a tutorial on dealing with Thieves as a Ranger. That would be really cool!
Thief seems to be in a really awkward position. The other classes will say it’s OP and has a way too huge damage burst, but Thieves can die so quickly.
I don’t play Thief (I have a Thief but I never play it) and while I can relate to the other classes about how frustrating it can be to get ganked by one, that’s the role of a Thief. They pick off single targets that wander alone.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the complaints come from people that tend to run off alone and break away from the team fights. Now granted you should have roamers that go and get quick decaps etc when they aren’t needed at a team fight, it’s the role (or one of the roles) of the Thief to prevent those roamers from getting those decaps.
If the Thief did get a nerf and it couldn’t do it’s job bursting down roamers, then it would become obsolete, as they have really weak defense and go down so quickly. I actually played a few games as my Ranger today, with an enemy Thief on the other team.
I went to get a quick decap at home, but the Thief bursted me from stealth to prevent me getting to the node. Now the Thief didn’t actually kill me as I managed to disengage him, but he did prevent me from getting to the home node. While he did deal a huge burst of damage, I didn’t really think it was OP, considering I was a Ranger and the Thief is designed to take down single targets.
I’m not really a fan of the Thieves playstyle, and while they can be frustrating to play against, I wouldn’t ever want Anet to render the class useless. It just seems like there’s a very fine line to balancing the Thief and any major nerfs could really hurt it more than fix it.

Like people have said, 2 of any class v 1 of another is deadly. I can sympathize with how frustrating it can sometimes be, trying to deal with Thieves, but Guild Wars 2 is very much a numbers game. If 2 Thieves are going around together taking on 1 target, then that means the rest of their team will be out numbered somewhere else.
Granted they have very good mobility, but your team will have a good chance to overwhlem their other team members, given it could be a 4v3, assuming your team isn’t scattered all over the place.
There’s also the case that Thieves can be taken down really quickly, if they get in the middle of a team fight. Use this to your advantage and try not to run off alone, where the Thieves will pick you off. That is their job after all. Adapt and change your strategy, depending on the team match ups.

I’ve played Mesmer less and less since the patch. It’s been my main since I started playing, but I decided to play on my Guardian more, as I thought teams would prefer to see less Mesmers, with the current saturation of them popping up in PvP.
In one of the games I played yesterday, the opposite team had 2 Mesmers and we have 0. I don’t know if the enemy Mesmers were in a pre-made group or not, but they always kept together.
We had home and mid nodes, fully expecting the enemy to come to mid. They didn’t show up at first, but then all of a sudden they came out of stealth and the 2 Mesmers were setting up their clones, for their shatters. Now I happened to be playing a Bunker build on my Guardian. To my surprise, the 2 Mesmers (and their team) didn’t actually manage to kill us, or chase us off the point. The Mesmers ended up dying and their team retreated.
The Mesmers tried taking our home node so I kept them busy on the point (we were rotating between home and mid), until my team got to the point and finished them off. We ended up winning the game 500 points to their 250 points (roughly).
I don’t if they just happened to be REALLY bad at playing Mesmer, or if my team just happened to be good at countering their bursts, but they didn’t really give us any trouble.
Having said that, I did play a game a couple of days ago, as a DPS guardian and ended up having trouble with the enemy Mesmer. Mesmer seems to be a real mixed bag right now, but obviously it’s very powerful at the minute. The main frustration I seem to be seeing from people, is similar to what people complained about Thief. The stealth.
I honestly don’t know what to suggest. I mean, Mesmer (and Thief for that matter), do need some form of survivability, in this case it being stealth, otherwise they’d just get destroyed and be farmed for points. Hopefully Anet can figure out some way to balance it out a bit.
While I do think a lot of the heavy armour looks quite samey, the medium armour classes have it worse for different armour, as people have already pointed out.
If you’re wanting more “sexualized” armour, then the Norn female heavy cultural armours, will probably be more to your taste. I personally, would like to see more varied styles, especially for the medium armours, but not more sexualized. I’d prefer some really cool looking armours.
I can understand the desire to get a set of armour you want, but like people have pointed out, getting the T3 Cultural armour, isn’t too bad at all.
If all the items in the game were easy to obtain, you’d run out of things to aim for, so I think it’s important that there are gold sinks in the game. When you work to get something, you’ll feel that sense of satisfaction of getting it too, which is always nice.
It can be annoying when someone basically gloats after winning etc. Like others have said, all you can really do is ignore them. Remind yourself, that they do it, because it’s one of the very few senses of satisfication they can get =P
Speaking of “sore winners”, last night I was in the practice arena, trying out a Guardian build. There was a Thief on the opposite team. This guy knew what he was doing. I’ll give him credit, he was a good Thief player. He took down every player he went up against within seconds.
He disappointingly said in map chat “sry, but you guize rly suck XD”. I don’t know why he thought he’d be going up against pro players in the practice arena. I mean sure, pros do go in there to try out new builds and stuff, but it’s called PRACTICE mode for a reason.
When I was playing on my Guardian earlier, a Thief killed me within seconds, before I even had time to react. Granted this guy was no novice (and I’m pretty new to the Guardian class), but he had no problems taking my character down.
I guess you’d really need two pros facing off against each other to judge, but from what I’ve seen, Thieves can hold their own against Guardians no problem.
I personally like playing as a male character when I have the choice. If I’m playing a fighting game, I’ll play as the character(s) that have my preferred play style, be they male or female.
In games with character creators, I end up making a character that somewhat resembles me, or I’ll make a character that I perceive as “cool”. I guess the people that go on about there being a psychological reason for people creating male or female characters, would say I make characters that I want to be like =P
In Dragon’s Dogma I made a guy, in Skyrim I made a Dark Elf guy, Saints Row guy etc
I personally don’t see anything wrong with guys wanting to play as female characters in games. You’re not hurting anyone, or affecting someone else s experience by playing as a female toon.
In the end, we’re all different and have our reasons for playing our preferred characters. But one thing I don’t buy though is the “I’d rather stare at a woman’s butt than a guy’s” =P
Sorry but if you’re playing the game, zoomed in staring at your character’s butt, you’re not going to be playing the game very well =P I always zoom the camera out to see my surroundings and be more effective in the boss fights, PvP etc
