i second frostgorge sound as well if you don’t enjoy Orr. i d on’t mind it so much but i love Frostgorge. easily one of my favourite areas ingame. and the drops or mobs really aren’t so bad at al. occasionally you’ll ahve the chance of running into the Claw of Jormag event as well. though they seemed to have nerfed the drops from the ice elementals that spawn.. you at least still have a chance at the big chest.

: ((( i love that skin as well. unfortunately, hate to be the brigning of bad news, but afaik, there is no way to get back an item that you’ve transmuted and in turn, “destroyed”. not sure about gem bought specific skins – you can try to submit a ticket, but iw ant to say they won’t be able to reimburse it. but it never hurts to try! just remember to explainn your situation calm and composed. i feel it helps. ; )))

kind of wish there’d be a skin collection mechanic in this game. where you coudl collect skins and they last forever. and each time you want to use it, you can use transmutation stones to transfer any skin onto the stats that you want, without losing the skin. but you still need a stone each time you wanna switch the appearance.

i want to say scepter is better for roming or 1v1 or maybe 1vfew battles. though better for chasing down enemies.

staff is definitely very strong in zerg vs zerg or larger scaled battles. can be used for both stopping enemies fleeing (though you’re rooted when casting #5 LoW) and also for getting away. many times, i’ve been abel to cast LoW in front of me and run past it, with #3 for swiftness and enemies get stuck behidn the wall a bit so gives you a little more breathing room.

sorry, but how much armour do you have? just to help paint a better picture for me lol. as i pay attention to that “stat” more. at the same time, best way is to test it out! numbers are good to look at, as well as finding a balance between on paper and field testing.

note that max stacks at any given time should be 25 stacks.

hey there, just wanted to say i LOVE your videos. i’ve been mainly PvE-centric so far with the occasionaly jump into WvW. maybe a couple times a week. looking to get more focused on it as i’m nearing some of my PvE-goals (mainly weapon skins lol) and want to focus more on WvW. have been using an AHbuild as well and trying to diversify. after watching your videos, it looks fun. oen thin gi appreciate is that you’re always switching builds, gear, and you still perform awesome. so major kudos.

one quick question, in your current playstyle, what is staple for you to maintain your heals / health? though it seems more to come in the form of mitigation and knowing wen to dis-engage and then reengage your enemies.

lastly, i’ve recently further delved into the virtues line and picked up stability on IC and i. love. it. experimenting with a boon duration build with 0/0/10/30/30 now hehe but i’m in a phase of trying new stuff out now lol. gonna give this some more time and might give something along the lines of your build ; ))

one thing for sure, i can already tell it will take a higher skill cap – which is something i’m looking for anyways. so this is perfect. tested it out a bit in PvE and i did realize immediately i did have to be more aware and learn when to engage/disengage. and this was only with AI, so imagine having to do that in PvP. looking forward to it. i have high hopes for this though! have 2 monk 2 water and 2 major sanctuary. might look into getting some boon duration food as well to see if that makes a noticeable difference.

i do appreciate this. as when anyone new to the Guard or the game in general and ask about HP, people shun it right away. toughness i’ve definitely always appreciated as a Guardian. i may switch out some gear for HP instead. but i’ll test the trinkets and weps first.

for the sigil on your sword, i assume it’s the flat +5% dmg, sigil of force? if so, then it should stack.

just an extra tidbit, know that on crit sigils or on swap sigils share the same cooldown, whether stated or internal. i.e. if one effect is proc-ed, the other won’t. since your sword sigil is a passive one, the sigil of str on ur focus shoudl work as intended. i am under the assumption that for sigils, they work on all skills as long as that weapon is equipped and active. have read this and haven’t really done specific testing though.

for fun, i crafted the plushie stuffie griffon endless tonic last night!D and they can jump!! GOING TO ATTEMPT JUMPING PUZZLES IN THIS FORM. been busy,but made sure i got on last night to finish the event and go for this lol

thanks for the reply Chris! i figured that was the main reason why. and with a larger healthpool, the healing just becomes “less effective”. that’s something i noticed watching your first video. that it’s more about negating enough dmg taken (either by not taking it, what not) and healing over that. with which both more toughness and not a large healthpool contribute to.

i’ll work on cleric’s instead then. ; )) thing is, i’ve invested semi-heavy for my pow vit tough set and don’t have AS much time to play to get another set. like you mentioned, it’s pricey out there! would this build still work if i went with full cleric’s / sapphire weapons and jewelry?

beein trying to think of ways to further up your dmg. by no means are you killing slow at all with your longevity and ability to stay in the fight. would be even more of a beast if you could up your DPS. which is why i was thinking of the prec and healing gear, but like you mentioend, that takes away from the survivability of this build. hmmm.

finally got a chance to watch the vid and get back on here. great stuff!! hearing about your build in theory and then watching it in action are two completely different things.

as Oozo pointed out, great use of movement and utilities and timing. all things i need to work better on. seems the +healing power gear is quite essential to this build? or rather, matched with this build, it really does shine. i’m getting used to not having AH and being able to survive.

and yes, particularly enjoyed seeing using LoS and kiting to regen and get away from dmg. very well done.

keep the videos coming! if possible, would love to see your build in various situations. any group play vids as well? if you do, is there anything you switch around to accomodate for being in the presence of your allies?

to add, ring of warding on the hammer as well.

i’ve turned off auto targeting. and this way you can just click the groudn to untarget, makes leaping a LOT easier and you don’t go where you didn’t mean to go. more often than not, which can result in defeat in WvW with one leap in the wrong direction.

i use shelter as a heal as well. and renewed focus. with those, given all skills off CD. you can blind with F1 (if traited), a block F3, regain some health if losing it fast F2, hit shelter, 2 sec invul. hit RF, another 3 second shelter, and you get your AoE blind and block again.

cleanse conditions and stun breaks! you can go about this several ways. a couple of the utilities, as well as soldier runes x6 with shouts or Pure of Voice trait with shouts.

i’ve only ever gotten one black lion salvage kit. maybe more from before but in the past month, just that lol. and i do dailies, well.. as daily as can be. been around since head start too hehe so you just have awesome luck my friend. hope it comes back soon, heh

i’m on Sanctum of Rall and from HK. so -3 hrs from Aussie time. i’m on most week nights anywhere from 8pm to midnight/1am and i’ve seen a decent population. usually am abel to find dungeon groups if i wanted to. PvE, depends on the zone. used to be more populated i feel (least for Cursed Shore, and defs less people now after the plinx nerf). but still healthy and you’ll see people around.

can’t comment how this compares to other servers though. i have heard IoJ has a very strong Oceanic presence as well as very PvE-centric population. i have only heard.

i think as mentioned, early on you really don’t need to dodge as much. but i would try practicing it! ; )) i, as well, truly didn’t get a hang of it until i hit lvl 80 or when i started doing dungeons, or WvW ( i still suck at dodging in WvW i think).

what you CAN do it.. with any given mob, i’ll tell myself, alright, you’re going to go in, take this thing down, without taking ONE drop of dmg. that way, you do get to practice dodging, using your mitigation abilities, and what not. : )) and adds a bit of spice to the game, heh.

the only time i’ve seen this useful is when farming in Orr. i usually go there solo. so when i see someone with a blue tag, i add ’em. then i can call out in map LF3M and people join up quite fast.

well.. not AS fast now as Orr’s not as populated as it was before. :// good while is lasted. for now.

i haven’t had time to play these past few days. so hoping to catch up when Tixx hits LA. that being said, i MADE SURE i had time to get on yesterday to go for the Griffon!DD

hey Joe, all the above advice is good! : )) so it seems your main problem is the timing? first and foremost.. get that out of your head! when you feel pressured, it’s easy to not act your best. and for this.. a lot of times, it helps to just jump by gut feeling and faith. the jumps from snowflake to snowflake aren’t that far, but don’t feel rushed and jump without stopping if you can. the mouse turning will help a lot.

the only times i stopped in this JP was the horizontal candy canes in the snowflake part. and obviously with the snowballs at the end. : ))

most important thing about timed JP’s are to stay calm. remain composed and you will eventually get it! it does take practice! so each time you messed up at a part, try to take notice what it was that caused you to fall, or slow down, or eventually lose out on time.. then you can keep those things in mind the next time you run it.

wanted to ask a quick question – would magi’s (HP/prec/vit) work as well? in that sense, you can get some more precision, as well as more vitality? just wondering. i’m trying to invest in some weapons / jewelry to test this build out. ; ))

strangely, after seeing this, it’s actually very close to the build i’m working on with my pow/vit/tou armour. so seeing how this would work.

lol, there ya go! i can attest that this group here do a very well job at adding people and sending invites. ; )))

to anyone new or wondering, you can always open “G”, the Guild Panel and on the first tab, and on the top left, you’ll see which Guilds have sent you invites and you can accept! then just represent (button under the main window) anytime ya feel like ; ))

on that note, work on map completion as well! anything that contributes to map completion will give you XP. how i leveled up mainly was while doing my story, whenever the story led me to a new area, i would try to clear that map. then my level would more or less be in line with the story. and keep going that way. though eventually i got so caught up just exploring and doing random stuff, i hit lvl 80 and my story was only at 50+

if you need a little boost or need a break from PvE-ing or WvW-ing, you can also always craft. know that going from lvl 1 – 400 for any given craft will give you 10 levels worth of experience.

congrats on the new match up TC, as well as SoR (day one until the rest of time) and BG. IoJ, i wish you guys the very best in future endeavors! am sure we’ll cross paths once again. this is only coming from someone who doesn’t consistenly WvW. but i plan to be able to do so more in the near future.

TC looks like they’ve really been shaping up and looking forward to these upcoming battles. will try to consistently jump in WvW this coming week and for the weeks to come.

i think recruiting can be a crucial part to WvW, especially in regards to coverage time. i myself am mainly a PvE-er but when i get most of my “PvE” goals out of the way i plan to WvW more seriously right now, i delve in every so often and try to help out and learn as much as i can. i’ve seen people call out in LA asking for help in WvW. which i think can be helpful. however, what even MORE important is what happens on the BL’s and in EB after these daring PvE-ers decide to venture into PvP land as a server. do you remain by their side, telling them what to do? or do you just rush off and do your thing? not telling you to hold their hands, but give them a rundown perhaps when you’re calling out. explain the situation. RP a little even or at least give a background story. at least, THAT would intrigue me.

imagine if you convinced someone to go in. and they eventually DO. but then are just left alone. first time being in WvW< it can be daunting as you’ve no idea what to do, where to go.. so that just turns them off. especially if after someone invites them they’r ejust left there. so stick by them and affect a small group at a time, instead of just getting pure “numbers”. you can offer a show tell session in LA. announce it before hand and those interested can come listen and you can educate them. and hopefully, when they get in, and follow you and help you complete objectives and experience pretty darn fun PvP, they’ll be willing to come back. and through that, they’ll tell their friends ideally. and word gets out that your server and WvW is fun. and more than jsut about the rewards.

not saying that you don’t do this already, but i feel it helps. and in case you needed a reminder. ; )))

in terms of game-mechanics.. looking forward to the big changes coming for WvW and will see what ANet decides to do.

@CrazyAce – that sounds pretty decent too actually. especially the 5% under the effects of might. Guardians have a relatively (understatement?) easy source of Might at any given time. especially with this set.

will look into this too.

one thing that could make a huge different is are you keeping your mats for specific crfting purposes? for e.g. going for a specific legendary or named exotic, etc? if not, if you sold all your mats like Rustypipes mentioned, you should be able to build a sizeable income.

dungeons is a good way to get gold. if you’re going for purely gold, you can run AC dungeons all 3 paths a day. and use omnomberry bars. they’re pricey but your runs should cover the cost. if not, you can opt for the cheaper raspberry peach bars. whcih also add MF and GF (gold find). if you don’t care about DR on the tokens, i’d assume you can even run AC multiple times a day. not sure if you hit DR on gold though. that being said you want to take out the sub-bonus-mini bosses as they drop decent coin in AC + the 26s you get for completing the path.

furthermore, if you don’t care for the dungeon armour or weapons, if you do high enough level dungeons (which also net you gold, though might take longer than the two mentioned above), you can exchange for rare items using the tokens. salvage them and sell the ectos as well. or if you’re sticking with AC, you can just exchange for the exotics and then salvage those as well.

a few more points:
though you probs know this already re: selling/salvaging..

• sell all green/blue items you get. some like to save up greens and gamble with the mystic forge for a small chance at yellows. i personally don’t care to.
• if you don’t need globs of ecto, sell your yellows as well! but monitor the prices of ectos, if you feel lucky, you can try to salvage and sell the ectos if you get ‘em. also, if there’s a sigil or rune that might sell for a handful, use a blacklion’s salvage kit – for a chance at ectos and you can then also sell the sigil/rune.
• if you want to save up, deposit gold into the bank! and leave only like some silver on you for travel and repair costs if any. this way you won’t be as tempted or you can even set a goal for youself. for e.g. you can’t withdraw anything until you hit 50g or 80g or 100g.
• keep running in MF gear outside of dungeons as you should be able to survive
• when farming events (Orr, etc), try to group up! this ups your chance at loot drops

- you can “whisper” the code to yourself! so you don’t have to spam /m or /s chat for the preview codes : ))

- if you’re too lazy, you can also go to the Heart of the Mists and check out the PvP lockers which should also have most skins : )) though the only thing is you need to find out the corresponding PvE version (since they are named differently in PvP)

ah, i was just wondering this the other day. for my more DPS-focused set, i’m currently debating either:

- ruby x6
- superior ranger x5 + superior lyssa x1

with zerker’s gear as well. which would benefit more?
i guess depends on my traits as well, which i haven’t entirely decided yet.

when i do that with my male Guard, most of my allies inevitably move away from me in a circular radius. i wonder why. : (((

and i’m all, “noo, stay close!!”

i’ve heard that karma food works as well (+5%). but haven’t tested myself either. if it does that brings you a total of a 75% increase. regardless though, definitely save up your jugs / flasks / gulps and vials. that’s what i’m doing now and hopefully.. it’ll still work by the time i do consume all of what i’ve saved.

just to break it down, each:

• jug will give you 4,500 * 1.75 = 7,875
• flask will give you 4,000 * 1.75 = 7,000
• gulp will give you 3,500 * 1.75 = 6,125
• drop will give you 400 * 1.75 = 700

even if the food +5% doesn’t work, you’ll still get a hefty amount.

[added: @Soulblazer, iirc, karma banners are +5%? so total would be 50% (booster) + 5% (banner) + 15% (infuence) + 5% (food) = 75% increase]

i’m determined to keep checking this thread until our curiosity is satiated.

afaik, before ascended gear was introduced, they stated that even after transmutating to exotic stats, legendaries should not lose their “purple” status. then come “pink” gear and they stated that all current legendaries will one day be upgraded to ascended status.

however, i don’t think anyone has addressed what will happen to the legendaries that have been transmuted to exotics (assume nothing below exotics) will be fully upgraded to ascended level. can only assume they do, but who knows at this point.

if i were you, and you’re debating transmuting, i would just hold off for now and wait it out.

[edit: i had as far as we know, but got kittened out so it’s back to afaik now :pp]

@Vlawde – again, emphasizing how the top-down / bird’s-eye-view helps on the JP! : )) mouse turning obviously helps for this so you can try to turn up mouse sensitivity. to allow for ample time for the end bits, i pretty much hold down “W” (forward) the whole time, apart from when i jump the horizontal candy cane sticks in the initial snowflake bit. keep practicing! and you’ll be sure to get it ; ))

for bells – another small tip. don’t look at your character!! the lag for me created a noticeable difference in when i actually hit the keys / notes and my guy’s animation. which kind of threw me off. though turning down graphics settings may help with this.

all in all, pretty fun so far though!

@Aeleniel – same here! O_________o lol but it’s really fun. been trying to get the achievements as well but haha to no avail at all. anyone have any more tips? i play the scout generally and is quite fun. have read this works. right off the bat Stealth (#5), you get swiftness, so you can get the swiftness boon lying on the ground, Stealth again when you’re near the present or get it and rinse / repeat. lol sounds easier than done. i gotta practice that. in terms of stopping people, this i’ve tried myself. and it’s pretty fun >:DD predict where enemy carriers are gonna be, use stealth when you see them coming up. hopefully they haven’t noticed you. again and #4 charged fully can take out 80 – 90% of someone’s health so “snipe” them. #3 is pretty strong too! but you want to be closer for it’s full effect. not as great at mid-range. i’ve only played scout so can only offer so much.

@Purring, Alex (i’m alex too! lol) and Tetrae/Meiz – welcome everyone!!! hope you find it fun here. you lot are in good hands so expect some crazy fun times. mainly crazy. ; ))

@kaffal – is is super worth it? i’d imagine the more stun breaks the better in most situations. assuming this works in WvW as well? stun break plus an extra block can help escaping certain sticky situations.

i’ve been debating switching up my build a bit. either to 0/0/20/30/20 or 10/30/30. using runes to max boon duration as well. quick ques – so runes / foods or traits that apply boon duration, how does this apply to specific boon duration? e.g. retaliation from Vengeful trait – which is +25% uptime. does this just add on to say 40% from runes and 30% from traits? with food, that can pretty much mean 100% uptime on it?

i think i can both sides of the story. one can argue, if one is being “smart” by not fighting 1v1 and risking anything, sure they’d be saving another run back IF they do get defeated. at the same time, as illustrated in OP’s e.g.‘s, they’ve wasted 10 mins “hiding” in the keep or tower while OP is for whatever reason, “camping”.

though you guys have touched on most points. it’s WvW, not 1v1. without diminishing the effects one person can achieve in solo roaming 1v1 – capping unmanned camps, sentries, taking out dolyaks, securing supply lines… or if you happen to stop 1, or a group of 2, even 3 enemy forces, you’re effectively halting their tactics or wherever they were headed, be it to fortify a keep or help their zerg defend or attack.

i for one, used to be one of those who would turn tail. one, i didn’t want to risk dying and have to run all the way back where i was heading in the first place. two, i wasn’t confident enough. three, i wasn’t looking for said 1v1 face offs.

however, with playing a LITTLE bit more, i’ll tend to welcome face offs. there’s only one way to get better right? more often than not, i’ll still end up defeated. yes, yes, i need practice. whereas other times i’ve been able to take out the enemy player, or 1v2, 3 depending. sometimes, fights can take up to minutes! especially if no one from either side comes by. but even then, depends on what my objectives were originally, i would have wasted time or been detoured when i really needed to get somewhere.

there are many factors for why someone might not want to face you 1v1.

@Berengar – ty for the reply. that’s what i assumed as well. based on i felt traits > runes. not sure if this is the same train of thought you went by. will try to test this in game as well.

so here’s an e.g. bleeding then poison is applied to me in that order. i have both PoV and Soldier runes equipped, i shout, then PoV would remove bleeding and apply Vigor, and then poison should be removed as well from the Soldiier runes. is this assumption sound?

@Viralseed – ah. i didn’t even think of that. could be the case, but like you said, would require more testing as well. could be a possibility. according to the Wiki and what people have been saying though is that Hold the Line was bugged with PoV and didn’t consistently convert the condition into a boon. though removed. whereas SYS wouldn’t remove conditions from yourself. i feel SYS is slightly trickier, since you’re bringing on conditions to yourself, while gaining multiple boons. but we can easily test HTL with say any conditions apart from poison and vulnerability.

i went with Norn. ; )) the lore aspect, their size, and transforming into animals! sort of like the idea of having a Guardian Animal. question to all Norn Guards – seems many of you use the Leopard form? i ought to spend the points and get that. O__________o been using Guard elites so far.

though i will say, i think any race of Guardian is pretty awesome and even from a RP perspective you can play it up. for me Norn > Asura > Sylvari > Charr/Human

Charr and human tied mainly because i feel Charr would be more suited as a Warrior. but that’s just me. ; ))

and the soldier runes do in fact affect your allies as well, i.e. allies that are affected by your shouts, will have one condition removed.

the PoV is a great trait. sadly, it’s not working as it ought to be now. from my understanding.

while we’re on topic, i’ve asked this before but forgot and can’t find the answer. if one IS using both PoV and Solider runes, (given PoV works properly), which one will go first? i.e. can i safely assume that 2 conditions will be removed, while one of those removed is converted to a boon?

i always appreciate a fellow Guardian roaming in WvW. helps me constantly evaluate myself and try to pick up new ways of playing. once i’m more or less “done” with PvE, heh, i’ll be trying to focus on WvW a lot more!

i’m trying to put together a set that is more focused on Magi’s stats as well. looking forward to test how this works.

disclaimer: i’m not a huge WvW-er (i.e. not day and night err day) but when i am on, i enjoy the crap out of it. especially these past few weeks with the matchups against BG and IoJ. /salute to my Commanders and fellow soldiers as well! you all put up more than a great fight and love fighting alongside you folk. thanks for always having me feel welcome on the battlefield even though most of you don’t know me. ; ))

that being said.. as fun as WvW in T2 and with these matchups have been, why are the forums so hostile? A calls B server out. B defends saying don’t defame entire server due to one individuals actions or words. then B goes on to do the same and defame server A. now bring in server C. rinse and repeat.

i’m all for smack talk and being competitive. i for one don’t do it, but not against it and do see the benefits and fun of it. however, lately, or at least this new thread here, we’re so downhill we can’t even make out the foot of the hill. hardly any score updates, hardly any people actually talking about the match-up. so for those who did, kudos to you. and whenever people DO try to talk about the match-up, it just gets dronwed out by people pointing fingers. this goes for ALL sides.

and you might say “hey aka, you’re hardly in WvW so you shouldn’t be speaking at all.” touche. but if someone new, someone who’s planning on trying out WvW, comes in here to check it out first, i daresay it’s not a pretty sight and not very encouraging. sadly for them, this community here isn’t for the most part what i experience when i’m actually in WvW with you lot, again, all 3 servers. so why not put on a good show here? discuss problems and issues that are legit in a composed manner by all means, but no need to stoop low and give ourselves a bad name.

the “smack talk” on here, to be honest, yes coming from an “outsider” doesn’t do anyone, any good at all. coudln’t help but to voice my opinion here.

let’s keep up the good fights. and let’s do our darned best to have all other behavior in-line with that.

interesting idea! but i would urge them to be very deliberate in terms of what these weeklies would be if they really were to implement something like this in the ffuture. i.e. don’t have them in a way where it would cause people to lose focus on what WvW should be fundamentally, soley in order to get these chests.

just quick e.g. the achievements tied to the Snowball PvP actually discourages team play to achieve (just from reading the threads on it).

quick question to the community who are asking for additional difficulty levels – if there were say an easy / hard / ridonkulous mode, after having completed easy mode, would it guarantee people won’t whine about there being different levels and having feel “compelled” to do all difficulty levels? what with especially different titles and or achievements or loot.

i think it’s a good idea but think it’d have to be fleshed out. again, can’t please everyone and i think it would further help alleviate the issues many of us are still having. that being said, if the loot / rewards are different, there will still be people who complain that they can’t finish the harder difficulties. on the other hand, if loot / rewards / titles were the same, then those who completed the harder difficulty levels would feel it was “unfair”. what are some further suggestions that ANet can take and keep improving these events?

i personally had a lot of fun. was challenging, but in a definite different way than the clocktower was. and can still be frustrating.

someone mentioned a score-board and i thought that was a good idea that would give the hardcore players incentive to keep beating their own scores and be able to “show-off”. while the more jump-casual players would be able to complete the puzzle, get rewards and not feel pressured or that they are “missing out”.

just thinking out loud…
