just adding on. thanks for this game!!! it’s my first MMO and they never really appealed to me. but as i found my way back to PC gaming, this is a GREAT game to own and be able to play right now.

ooh, i have noticed the costs going up, but never thought about it this way. especially when you’re helping your friends out.

i agree that if we are downscaled, which is i think in this case, works very well (although i do like playing games to be OP lol), then the costs for waypointing, and other things should be to scale as well.

though do encourage them to slow down, take it in! there’s no point in getting the game done asap.

like many have said shouts, consecrations are pretty useful! your teammates won’t even know you’re helping them, but in the end, team effort no? haha working on being that nameless hero.

it does seem you contribute only be dealing damage and as a guardian, who can really excel in support, seems to not benefit as much from this.

that being said, wall of reflection, coupled with purging flames scepter/torch combos and or tome of wrath can deal a significant amount of dmg as well.

hammer IS pretty darn useful. i run sword/torch and hammer / GS. going to try to mess around with the other weps, as they’re all useful but i can’t move away from the torch.

adding on to what Resilga said, set them on fire, switch to hammer, 1, 1, 1, 2, 5, 4 so you trap ‘em before banishing them. and then while they’re toppling, 3 to immobolize and do what you want. haha

hmm, since there was quite a bit of talk of builds / traits. many seem to max one or two trait lines out, and then the extra 10 goes anywhere. or, not use the radiance line at all. i’m only lvl 34-ish so i’m just looking forward now. i was planning on maxing radiance, and then have others at maybe 20’s or 10’s, is that viable? is it just pretty much based on how i want to play?

that’s what i was going to ask next. is it based on your scaled lvl?
anyhoo, i’d probably explore as you go as well. and then rush to events, what not.. and then carry on exploring, even if it’s led me to a new area. that’s how i’ve been playing so far.

not stupid at all. i’ve wondered the same thing. i love playing Guardian and in my first experience with WvW, i felt i wasn’t doing much. especially in the big battles!!

i’ve asked around other forums and here a few tips:

- wall of reflection —> using for keeping enemies away and you and your friends can hit from behind it
- scepter —> is not as bad as one may think. it can deal decent damage and fires relatively fast. and in a big battle, so much is going on that most people won’t notice to dodge; the 2 attack is pretty decent and you get a binding skill as well —> used well with traits, can cause some people a lot of trouble
- the hammer is a decent alternative —> it deals decent damage when needed and also provides some CC as well as; number 5 symbol is not bad, good use to trap low health players or keep others out; larger symbol trait might help
- if you’re caught in a defensive position say on a wall and you feel you can’t contribute, Tome of Wrath is pretty decent for dishing out dmg and booning your comrades

i’ve yet to go back to WvW but i’m excited. : ))) most people i’ve heard back from seem to go all DPS and the support they offer are mainly f1, 2 and 3 if needed as opposed to going all support.

don’t worry too much about your dmg as long as you’re surviving. and OOH, how could i forget, use siege weapons!!! ballista for example. and you have a bunch of protective spells as well.

not able to give you a detailed build, but hopefully someone can help! i lov emy Guardian as well and won’t switch. will just slowly learn how to better serve my World. good luck and keep having fun!
