[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
i want to say it’s all random. some have claimed they had a high chance of getting dawn in day, dusk at night, etc, but no supporting proof. it’s all a gamble. that’s what the mystic forge is mainly about. especially when it comes to the legendary pre-cursors.
supposedly, i forgot which thread, there was official response saying that more “rare” (exotic over rare?) components have a higher chance. but no one knows how much higher of a chance, and people have gotten them with 4 rares.
so i wish you the best of luck. : ))
as a Guardian, i face the opposite problem – i like alts but i can’t seem to bring myself to play the others. hopefully i can provide some insight as well : ))
can’t speak for glass cannon builds, but built for crit, along with a good mix of toughness/vitality, i like to think that i am quite survivable, while being able to dish out good dmg when need to. i play a crit focused hammer build and have seen up to crits of 3k in PvE. haven’t noticed enough in WvW. so perhaps Guards may not be able to DPS as much as other classes do, but paired with a huge array of CC and support (self and group) skills, it’s a very versatile and able class.
in terms of range, we definitely can’t be on par with eles or rangers, etc, but we’re not entirely useless. it might take getting used to but the scepter with shield or focus (or even torch) can be a very strong combo actually. i’ve taken enemies out in WvW just using scepter/shield. does wonders in dungeon when i need a bit of breathing room from melee. tbh, i haven’t really ofund a HUGE place for it in PvE, but versus dragons and other bosses, it can be very strong #2 Smite is pretty awesome and crits a lot for me. good use cause many enemies in PvE don’t know how to move out of the way. #3 is pretty much insta-immobilize which i can’t complain about : ))) you also have various skills, such as Wall of Reflection for dealing against other ranged users.
for me, i didn’t REALLY start truly having fun with my Guardian until level 30. and it’s kept me all the way to 80 and i just want to keep playing him. hopefully this adds a bit of insight : ))
take a look at some videos online or browse the class specific forums and look up on different builds and playstyles to see which class / weapon sets / skills / builds appeal to you. good luck! and hope you make your way to 80 with a character you’ll love
thanks for the analysis Trungalung! and your continual contribution to this thread. this helps give me a better idea of what type or armor i want for my final set. at least for now.
that being said, does anyone have or know of a good calculator where we can mix and match gear + runes + weapons to see the outcome? even though it’s just on paper, it could give us good indication of if we’re headed in the right direction or not depending on how we want to build our Guards.
especially for people who click rather then use keybinds.. too often i see people randomly linking their moves.
D
given, sometimes people do it on purpose to illustrate a point or educate. but yes. an option for this would be nice.
mm so are you saying the chest dropped legendary armor, but you weren’t able to pick it up?
though, have not heard any plans for legendary armor, let alone them being in game now.
that’s pretty good case i feel. the gift of lightning certainly seems viable, since if we look at the weapons (legendaries and named exotics) the various components all seem to have something to do with them. in volcanus’ case, it’s a legendary component that has to do with fire (liquid flame) and then also lodestones of similar nature.
now if anyone had the components to try putting in the forge to see if they are compatible!
and the amount needed.
that’s decent HP! i am thinking i MIGHT need a different build (or at least, armorset) for WvW. i’m hovering around 15k and while i do okay, in WvW, conditions can stack up SO fast, a large pool of HP is awesome to have.
do you feel with the focus on boons is pretty beneficial? i’ve yet to dig into that side of builds for now. i can see how you love using the staff
D
is there anyone that excels using mace + weapon in WvW? curious to see how that set holds up.
lol, i’ve yet to hear that… some of the voice acting, especially for certain moves can be very strange lol.
and am sure you’re not the only one! every other Guardian i’ve come across sport the GS still! i still use it too depending and will run with it for quite some time. especially in dungeons, when we need to focus AoE. i pull out binding blades drop symbol whirling wrath and i roll out
@Fabsm – that’s very decent! i do the same with hammer, but i switch out to other weapons. i’ll have to give the staff a shot, especially with knocking away, and being attack free while you empower!
D do you have symbol of energy in both your staff and hammer?
definitely keeps you on your toes!
@Khallis – care to elaborate?
great points brought up by many others as well!! this is awesome. makes me want to even spend some coin and try out new builds. brought the staff onto the battlefield the other day! and it worked wonders! crazy how #4 can make such a HUGE difference to you and your allies. loving it so far. #1 spamming defending a game is awesome. i was the last man standing at a tower, and unfortunately lost it : ((( but i definitely got some XP just from spamming 1 and 2.
that being said, when i wanna dish out dmg, i ALWAYS go melee. obviously when it’s safe enough. if you see a 50 man zerg coming your way, and there are only 3 of you, best bet is to run, regroup and come back at them harder. but i am getting more and more comfortable facing enemy players. sometimes it’ll cost a few deaths to learn. but after that, i am dying less now.
hope this thread keeps going! some invaluable points as to what Guardians can do in WvW. which is so so much.
hahaha ding ding ding ding ding!!! that’s awesome
D
that being said, hopefully your fam is doing better now Noppy! will be keeping you guys in my prayers. good to see you back and posting in UNION’s as well!
DD
in Tyria!
while leveling, i didn’t pay TOO much attention to be honest. i probably could have done a better job. i second having 15 in radiance while leveling (even end-game!) for PvE. it works wonders and you take a LOT less dmg against foes, as long as they are vulnerable to blind. you can pretty much spam it, and with 5 in virtues, you get might as well from activating VoJ (iirc?).
in terms of armor, i jsut went with whatever drops i got as long as they were upgrades. i didn’t stay planning for which stats i wanted until i was level 80. though i did try to balance out my stats as best as i could. for example, if i got an armor piece with extra 5 defense, but i lose out on a chunk of HP, i didn’t do it. am sure there are more scientific ways of maxing your effective HP though. :ppp
skills i always used were purging flames, hold the line, stand your ground (when you’re faced against foes with CC, but early on, it’s not needed as much) are good.
i used to deal a lot of fire dmg when i fisrt started out and that was FUN!
D i never went the signet and / or spirit weapon route but that’s just me. hammer is really fun, as well as greatsword. to note, for the hammer, the end of every autoattack chain drops symbol of protection, which grants protection, and then you can immediately combo with #2, which gives AoE might. hammer #3, 4, 5 can all be used to CC mobs as well, which in some form can offer “dmg mitigation” as well.
in terms of squishyness though, like some have pointed out, it’s a mixture of toughness and vitality.. which i’m sure you’re familiar with.
what Ultramantum said. i used to not liek the trident, because the attacks seem wimpy. but was i wrong. the spear and trident together offer a LOT of skills – DPS, control, blinds, defensive, healss, retaliation…
i agree that sometimes i will still try to lure them near shore, where they can’t hit me (if they’re strictly underwater mobs) and then bash away with my hammer. though i’ve seen myself crit over 1k, and i’m using only masterwork underwater weapons at the moment. i see this quite often with spear #2 (LOVE this skill)
to add, i was level 80 for a week before i realized you could still assign 6 – 0 skills! O___________o lol, after that, i started to enjoy underwater fights a lot more.
hey guys, always looking for this thread in the forums for further discussions and new comers. i’m still on my way to working towards a good set of gear. going to be doing more research in this area, especially for runes. so far running rare Knight’s, mixed in with one valkyrie and has been working well so far. my jewels are all junk and the build is working wonders for me already – so hopefully when i am able to invest in some decent stuff, i’ll see an even bigger difference.
@Brutaly – yes i definitely have gained more confidence in myself! even against certain tough mobs in PvE, i can solo. let alone seeing the build shine with a group! i have people commenting after a big fight that i am extremely “tough” or “survivable” and i share with them the gist of the build.
D i’ve noticd this myself as well and like you said, the more you practice, the better you get it.
i’ve been practicing dodgerolling between the chain, sometimes depending on the situation, i’ll dodge after the chain, or after the mighty blow, based on the mobs animations (i.e. attacks) but usually, dodge between hit 2 and 3 works best rhythmically. although i do have to practice keeping a better eye on my endurance, especially against big hard hitting bosses. the animation i have been practicing as well, but it doesn’t always happen when i want it to! so if you are able to forgo your no video policy just for explanation/demonstration purposes, i for one, as i am sure many others as well, would highly appreciate it!
every day i’m hammering. and loving it.
hooah! that’s awesome! never thought of that and that sounds awesome. i used to JI with #4 to catch ’em off guard but what better to trap ’em while smashing away? will have to give this a shot. i assume will take some practice getting used to the timing.
i’ve never noticed, can you check if certain players have stability on them? because iirc, this would render ring of warding useless against them?
and to be safe, would you recommend hitting immobilize before dropping smite? since with my experience, when i drop smite without first #3-ing them, they dodge out immediately. especialyl since smite crits quite a bit
maybe it’s just on your server?
i main a Guardian, have been doing so since 3dayheadstart. sure i see a handful of Guardians, but not as much as i see other professions on my server. maybe leave the area if there was a sudden influx of Guardians?
to be honest, this is just me, but i love having extra Guardians around. sometimes, they may have utilities or skills or boosts that i’d like to have, but have chosen other skills. so it’s just a plus for me having extra Guardians around
DD
Bri and Lexy, that is awesome. keep the pics coming!!
this is a pretty cray phenomenon. last night i helped the wife scavenging for vanilla beans for a bit. we netted a total of 7, which i guess is actually not bad O___________o
any reason why they took ’em out from the karma vendors??
as a Guardian, donno my age but have been lvl 80 for a short amount of time now, i’ve received countless pirate and swindler gear. lol. i guess it kind of makes sense cause my wife play’s a thief.
so i can confirm you defs get pirates as drops. swindler i want to say yes as well.
you can check out www.gw2wiz.com for some crafting guides! they’re pretty good i find.
definitely go with discovering recipes! and keep doing that until you reach the next tier. if you haven’t reached the next tier yet, craft one or a few more items (highlight as yellow/orange text, i.e. you still get xp for it) and you should reach next level. then rinse and repeat – upgraded refinements, insignias and discover more.
good luck! : )))
haha i’ve only recently discovered that as well and i was post lvl 80 and always always dreaded fighting underwater cause i couldn’t survive. made all the difference even with just a handful of utilities available! so now, idon’t mind underwater fighting and it can be quite enjoyable / challenging lol
… you’ll actually need skillpoints to purcahse stuff from Miyani (NPC) near the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch. so maybe that’s something you want to keep in mind as well.
Argh! I didn’t know this!!
I just finished ‘buying’ all my skills, (many I didn’t want or need …) cos I didn’t know what else to do with the points ….
don’t worry, Bri. i did the same, and only had one or two skills left “unbought”. given one is a thirty. throughout farming / going for map completion / crafting, you’ll make back all your points in no-time! that being said, i see where you’re coming from :///
tip of my heavy healm to you two!
D
have yet to earn some influence for the guild, oops. lol
that’s great news regardless!
quick question here, i forget if it’s been mentioned, but is +Healing necessary for AH to work? i am running 0/5/30/30/5 and might try 0/0/30/30/10 for fun, and make up for the precision with gear/jewels. so i have the base plus the traits, but if i invest no gear or runes into +healing, do i miss out a lot on using this build?
secondly, just wanted to add, i had my very first 1v2 in WvW. was running to a POI and SP for map completion and all of a sudden, around the corner a ranger pops out and starts shooting at me. i’m not the best at PvP and my first reaction is to turn tail when i encounter enemies on my own, i was running hammer / staff and so i turn and dropped a line of warding behind me and kept running, while another popped out from the side. and i was like aw crap. i dropped a #3, while spamming 1 while i tried to get away then i was like, “no. can’t run this time.” so i turned around, busted my hammer out and started wacking away. dodgeing at the right time, applying boons/aegis/shouts when i needed to. #3 to control, #4 to keep one away if i needed and continual #1 chain and mighty blow combos led me to come out on top of the two of them. i know many can do this, but it was a first for me! lol so this build IS extremely strong. my health was down low for a few moments, but i was able to bring myself back into the gam ewith appropriate dodging, boon application as well as using my symbols (was traited for healing as well). very, very, very fun build. done it in PvE, dungeons and now seeing it shine in WvW.
yes and no. well no, because i absolutely adore the hammer. true it might be slow, but i love it when i see AoE crits of up to 2k, 3k dmg and then followed up with a combo field.
and #3, 4, 5 as situational as everyone makes them out to be, i always find uses for them, no matter what i’m fighting. if specced right, the boons and support and tools you get from the hammer can benefit yourself (solo) as much as it benefits your team (group play).
i actually go scepter/shield in dungeons and works wonders, espeecially against ranged and i can keep supporting, while also CC-ing a bit and doing decent dmg. though i wish the scepter auto would have a different animation or sound effect lol
i have a few alts (necro, warrior, engi, ranger) ankittenep going back to the Guardian. call me stale, but the hammer is awesome. and i switch every so often with my other weapon set if it doesn’t call for specific situational sets. and i have a good time
do you have a link to your build? just so we can get a better idea of what you’re heading towards and what type of armor would suit you best! : ))
i’m lvl 80 too and looking for your armor is pretty exciting. have a set of rare Knight’s now as i’m specced for crit % / precsion. toughness is good to have and i’m trying to balance out my vitality with the Valkyrie set.
not saying it’s not viable, but for most Guardians, we don’t particularly spec for condition dmg as we only have 1 condition (burning) at our disposal, which stacks in duration as opposed to intensity. so depending on who you play with and what they use as well, your burning might be “negated”. that being said it could be more useful if you specced into other stats with your armor / gear. again, depends on your build and what you’re going for.
haha nice. did you WvW? faced you guys previously. : PP
also, the more servers the better! ultimately one day we can have a rep on each and every single server out there. so we have precense throughout all of Tyria, lending a helping hand and building up the community.
getting teary now. i mean.. no. of course not.
that being said, was truly a great character and all the small details made him so likeable!! in conversations via cutscene or in -game, his actions even!! all put together to make a great character.
just wanted to add if you’re crafting because ou want to be able to craft your own gear / weps and / or for legendary making purposes, by all means, go for it but don’t see it as a means o fmoney making. least not at this point in time. although when you get to masterwork and rares / exotics, certain items can sell for quite a bit, but you should also take into the mats that went into them. if you’re going to be crafting anyways, then just sell the desirable items on TP, or if they don’t then vendor or salvage (monthly achievement or get some basic mats back but not very cost efficient).
though with regards to tailoring, i feel it’s definitely more “valuable” to seel those mats and/or salvage them for chance of rare cloth mats (lvl 80, etc for gossamer / silk etc). but i want to go for the legendary shield, which requires my tailor to be lvl 400 so i’m leveling mine.
can i ask what level are you right now? for me, i didn’t really start undersatnding my class at around lvl 15 and up and then at 30 i truly felt like i was doing my class some justice. and even now at 80, i’m still learning new things everytime i play.
D it’s like IRL, learning is a lifelong process lol
i play a Guardian so i can really speak from this perspective. it’s versatile in the sense that you can support, play “healer” and still do pretty impressive dmg. if you want, feel free to pm me and i can further go into detail (don’t want to leave a wall of text lol)
my wife plays a thief and does very good condition dmg. she alts an ele and can do massive dmg as well! and of course, warrior will be pretty darn decent in DPS and all around play
welcome, Dimorphia!
since i’m in HK, we’re in a more similar timezone, but diff. servers :///
some events will be more difficult, even in starting areas from my experience and some are hard to solo. the way i liked to level was sort of try to follow my story as best i can, and keep moving up in area levels.. and not until i hit 80, did i start actively going for map completion. i purposely kept some low level areas available for me to explore, so if i need a break from some hectic fighting, i can go back and relax a little.. lol, that being said, some areas CAN be difficult. though i believe as you progress in the game, you slowly learn how your character, class and build can adapt to all situations. so keep at it! and hopefully you’ll be able to find more people on here. do join the guild and i think it’ll be easier for us to see where everyone is!
Dante’s build is very strong! i use to sport that one
D recently switched to 0/5/30/30/5 for altruistic healing (applying boons on allies self included heals you), along with 2handed mastery, symbols larger and symbols heal on honor line. i’m an avid hammer user so that’s the line for me
D
my current build does pretty well in dungeons (lot of healing and support, but still able to crit up to 2k, 3k depending), definitely viable in PvE and tested last night, more than enough to do WvW. and like you said, with the switch of a weapon / set you can pretty much do all 3 with the same build.
to add though, when running dungeons and WvW, i run full Knight’s and need to work on my jewelry. planning on going either valkyrie or a mix of berseker’s. in PvE i run all MF lol. i used to think that fully going into valor and honor wouldn’t give me enough DPS but with the right gear and utilizing your skills well enough, you can easily deal heavy dmg, while being mega survivable!
and i run a hammer/staff myself and or hammer with scepter /shield or focus, depending on the situation. sometimes i run hammer/gs as well if it calls for it. again, like Dante said, for WvW i main hammer still, but having either staff or scepter ready helps a lot. not necessary but you can hugely benefit from it.
hope this adds a bit more insight as well. feel free to ask me anything as well, i’m a huge advocate for the hammer lol and can answer some questions if you have any :PPP by no means am i an expert, but i love sharing and discussing!
my build is similar to Zeke’s build as well.
i used to run a 0/15/30/20/5 build which was great for PvE with the spammable Renewed justice (constant blinds/burns/vulnerability). though i liked the honor line too much and Altruistic healing REALLy did do wonders in terms of survivability for me – it also incentivizes (word?) supporting your team which helps overall. so then i went to 0/5/30/30/5. some key traits are:
Valor Line
- Altruistic Healing —> as mentioned above, whenever you place a boon on yourself or allies, you heal for a small bit. but since we have so many boons at our disposal, the heals add up! the Symbol of Protection on hammer chain 1, plus mighty blow triggering the combo for AoE boons triggers this as well
- i like using Retributive Armor as well -- since i try to build on toughness as well as prcision (Knight’s armor)
- Glacial Heart is not bad, though i feel the CD could be a bit shorter it’s fun when it does proc
Honor line (i LOVE this line, thus why i went max in this line)
- Writ of Exaltation —> larger symbols benefits all and is quite useful with the hammer since you can drop a symbol every basic attack chain
- Two-Handed mastery —> allows me to do one mighty blow (#2) per autoattack chain plus a second / a dodgeroll —> which also heals!
- Writ of the Merciful —> symbols heal, nuff said.
- though sometimes depending on the situation, i’ll switch in Empowering Might, where nearby allies gain might (BOONS! to trigger AH) when you crit. which is why crit % is important as well and works wonders with the hammer.
- Writ of Persistence – longer lasting symbols could be beneficial as well bt i personally haven’t tried this yet so can’t say much.
lastly, virtues with extra boons always help as well.
the hammer/staff combo is good for the staff offers a lot of support and boons as well. and it’s pretty fun being able to see crit numbers up to 3k+ at times
D
and seeing i don’t use virtue of justice AS much. i might try to switch the 5 in radiance into virtues to pick up retaliation lasts 25% longer to see how that works..
i absolutely LOVE playing the Guardian in WvW. i’m not a big PvPer, but WvW is so much fun. each time i enter the EB or BL’s.. i like it more and more.
last night, i switched it up and sported the staff, as opposed to the scepter / shield or focus for my second set and was completely different play style! but it’s great. a lot of it is psychological when in a mexican standoff against enemies. somehow, running in head first with a staff spamming 1 and the occasional 2 scares people off and a little hesitation CAN mean life and death in WvW/PvP
was able to hold off a 6 man scout/attack on a tower on my lonesome with siege and my elite Wrath of Tome and or scepter #2 / Staff #3. they eventually gave up and went to take the supply camp nearby. of course, i’d already have notified my team so by the time they took the camp, we had a party of 10-15 and retook it in a matter of minutes.
also had my first 1v2 experience. i have the bad habit of turning tail whenever i see enemies on my own, but i figured what the hell, i can only practice out of this. and i saw i was holding up more than fine myself, so i knock one guy away, trap the other and focused my attacks on him. utilizing CC and utilities well, and paired with a bit of luck, i was able to take them both out one by one! i know thi sisn’t much but it’s a small feat for me
D
funny bit is , accidentally aggo-ed a vet wolf pack nearby and they kept attacking me and they don’t just nibble around! lol almost died during the “finish them” animation. that woulda been terrible. lol
keep trying at it! and soon you’ll find a way and place in WvW.
i think it SHOULD work. black lion should be good. master would be a bet.
for oricahlcum ore, i wouldn’t personally risk it. but that’s just me. : ))
o, sweet, thanks for the legit back-up, Safari. and that’s good to know!
i’m quite a ways from my story completion, but will be looking forard to it. i think a part of me is almost hoping t hey’ll iron all these little details out before i finish it (same with world completion lol)
mercury sums it up quite well! : )))
the Halloween event should be a blast! and it’s awesome that you’ve got your lvl 80 exotics and finished your PQ. i’m still working on those, a legendary as well as other cool skins that will take a long time to get, but rather, try to see these things as by-product of you enjoying the game and having fun.
have you explored every corner of Tyria yet? there are a ton of easter eggs and little details that you can stop and notice if you feel the grind is too much / unchanging. like many have said, try WvW
)) jumping puzzles, trying to have done every single DE and event chain, beat down every boss.. and when you’ve done that you can try solo-ing said events / bosses as a personal challenge.
this game is designed in such a way where it’s really up to you! : ))) hope you can find ways to enjoy it again, not just as before, but even more! i’ve been maining my Guardian like crazy and have a few alts but haven’t really invested in them either as i am extremely happy with my Guard and the way he plays.
yea i would go to the heart of the mists as well and preview stuff there.
found this on reddit a while back and has a pretty extensive gallery as well.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/y1jz9/whats_your_weapon_weapon_gallery/
i personally love the flameguard that Lethalvriend mentioned as well. it’s pretty sizeable and looks pretty menacing
D the Vigil shield is great as well! would love to be able to sport that
^^^ this is what i do a lot of. lol, and try to find the same armor in PvE. note, they will have different names. you can also check out the line of vendors at Fort Mariner’s (sp?) WP in Lion’s Arch. they sell the different dungeon armors and some are pretty cool as well.
just another quick tip re: transmutating armors / weapons even. basic transmutation stones for anything level 79 and below. you’ll need fine transmutation stones so long as one item you’re trying to transmutate is lvl 80. and also, you can’t have the item currently equipped while transmutating. so you have to uneuip it, trans, then equip again.
good luck finding the armor that suits you and that you looking foward to sporting everytime you log in!
o wow, grats! i just leveled my armorsmith to 400 and plan to get a set of exotics. i bought the plans and was like o wow, this will take a while lol.
and am sure you’ve found this out alreay, but they are the pearl weapons, iirc. i wasn’t the most fond of them tbh, but seeing it on other characters, they definitely look pretty awesome! also, the Quaggans use ’em so. ; )) good luck on your quest on getting them!
LOVE that pic of you is AWESOME. i haven’t made it to this JP yet, but i’ve heard it can be quite tough lol. well done!
like Glitch said, feel free to add me in-game or PM me, here or in Tyria. both work. and hope more people hear of this and join up! i’m always down for exploring, even if i’ve been somewhere a hundred times.
@Dantaeus – that’s great to hear!! definitely hoping for the same direction and yes, chat log can get pretty out of hand sometimes lol
@Willowpaw – which server are you on? one thing i have noticed is that most people have migrated to the higher level areas on my server. least it seems that way. so really depending on time, some maps can be completely deserted, especially the middle level maps. that being said though, to have no one reply or write in map chat is quite bizzare.
can’t quote again, but
@Ksielvin:
“After trying the 1st attack on middle click in beta (sadly can’t be on left click without workarounds), I’ve bound it to Space since launch and been quite happy with it.”
that’s a pretty good idea actually. what do you use as jump then? too used to jumping with space.
although i can see the benefits of hitting #1 (space) while having your index and other fingers free to hit other utilities
herro and thanks for the replies! defs clears up a lot and i guess i was headed in the right direction. cause i’ve seen a few guides out there but don’t seem to specifically mention you need to buy the recipes.
@ Wolfgang – that’s a great guide! so much appreciated.
on the side, kind of wished that not all text would be greyed out at lvl 400, but i guess it makes sense…
@ PsionicDingo – dude / dudette, now you know you’re not alone. i consider myself very green in WvW. i’ve been lucky enough to run with some decent commanders or people in general ankittenrying to learn and experiment as i go and i’ve found this to be most effective at this point in time. i’ve tried running around DPS-ing (when was lvl 21, first timer and that did not end well lol)
@ MiniAchilles – hope that helps with the limited info and or experience i have! just get out there and see what others are doing and if they are effective or not. when i run my Guardian, i have every single weapon available to me, well, available haha. only thing is u can’t switch wep sets in combat but you shouldn’t feel only limited to the two. we’re given a handful of weps to wield for a reason
and oh, don’t forget siege weapons!! as Guards you have more protection and stability / healing as well so why not man some kick butt weapons? so get on your way and pick up some blue prints ; ))
hey follow Tyrian craftsmen/women. i just reached 400 armorsmithing last night. yay! but had one small question i wanted to clarify. when i hit around 391, all my available recipes, including insignias at that point were greyed out. usually to hit the next tier, i would at least see red text for what i can craft next (usually starting with refinement). but this did not happen.
i went to talk to the NPC master and bought some rare recipes with karma. after “learning” them and crafting a few, i hit max level. so my question is – is it necessary to buy recipes to reach max level?
or can one do so strictly through discovery (and crafting the ones that yield exp on the way if missing the next tier upgrade)? reason i ask is because i did not discovery every single craftable item on the way. so when i reached next tier, i moved on immediately to those mats.
and if this is the case for armorsmithing, does the same goes for all other crafts in a similar fashion?
thanks for the help in advance. did a quick search, so apologies in advance if this topic’s been posted before.
depends on what you want to do.
if you want to AoE kill enemies? i’d say GS is very strong in that. #5 them in and then #2 (whirling wrath, right? had to think for a bit after the changes O__o) gets the job done. of you can even drop symbol of wrath first (though longer cd now, so i use it more sparingly)
if you just want to tag mobs with AoE. for e.g. if you happen to be running in a huge zerg and things are just dying way too fast, i feel staff #1 spam is pretty effective. i keep running around mobs or strafing around mobs while i do this.
the hammer works surprisingly well too. most of the time i play with my wife only, so we aggro mobs, bring them together (or i use binding blades). i’m pretty mobile with my hammer, so all the while strafing, running, trying to hit every mob with hits 1 and 2 of my #1-chain, while it’s charging up for the third hit (symbol of protection), i try to move and position myself so i hit the most mobs in one go. bam, crit numbers everywhere. then mighty blow right away, again, crit numbers / dmg numbers pop up everywhere. hammer #1, 2 and 3 can all hit multiple targets if i am not mistaken. #4 bash is single target only. so it’s not a bad option either if u lik eit.
if not most effective, it’s definitely satisfying dropping mobs of 5 – 6 in one final hit of the hammer
quick question for some WvW vet Guards.
if you’re inside a tower, can you walk up to the gate on the inside and drop a Wall of Reflection? or do you need to do it from the outside? either trait for ground targeting? or jump down, drop and get back inside
i have a feeling the vial of liquid flame recipe might work out. though, sadly, i am nowhere near any of these vials / gifts to be able to help test.
as usual, if anyone out there can help, even confirm if such a recipe exists or not would be awesome. : ))) keep the collective effort going peeps!
i’ve been wearing some crafted gear while leveling up. i just hit 400 armorsmith last night. so going to be working on some exotic armors (which is what i’ve been wanting to do, and now i have the ability to craft ‘em, i don’t mind farming for the mats : ))) gonna take a while though lol)
