[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
@Anomica – i think you’ve found your place already ; ))) GH has quite a handful of awesome and helpful members. but if you’re up for more dungeons, etc, feel free to PM Glitch as well and join up with him on AG!
@Laszlo – that’s unfortunate to hear
( glad to hear you’re sticking with gw2 though!!
D same question as Lexy, which server are you on? feel free to join! if anything, there’s always guild chat. and maybe we can team up to do some dungeons – looking to maybe do some this weekend!
@killmill – yes sir, and you’ll get an invite from me when i get home tonight (in a few hours). can’t wait! again, any of the others, feel free to send an invite as well if i haven’t done so yet!
again, to everyone, just to reiterate, as if this hasn’t been done enough, lol. XDDD we’re just a bunch of Tyrians, who like to rush to the aid of others especially if out of our way(whether we’re competent or not.. well haha that the world can decide XDD) and ideally, ultimately, we can foster a strong community, inter and intra-servers, that have a good attitude, like to have fun and are always willing to offer a helping hand. basically be kewl peoples.
hey scooby! just to add my own experience, i started off as a Norn guardian as my main. got up to around where you were, and started making alts for fun. they’re all around 10 now, except for my main, who i’ve hit 80 a few weeks ago. i didn’t really feel like i had problems leveling up – doing what people have mentioned in this thread, i didn’t even focus on crafting too much until i hit level 30. like you, i didn’t want to explore the other starter areas either, but if you 100% each map you’re on for your corresponding level, and following your story as well, you should be able to continue to move on.
do you solo or play with a group? i feel it helps sometimes when you have a group of peopel to play with, or even jus tin a pair or trio (though solo-ing is more than feasible as well). it makes a difference too and help swith som eof the harder events or mobs. i will agree that this game can be difficult, especially at the early stages. don’t lost heart though! at lvl 10 and onwards you really get the flexibilty to start building your character, learning about their skills and what not. try out different weapon sets. try out different utilities. once in one my personal stories, around lvl 15 – 16 i forget, i was having the hardest time ankittenpt dying until i was nekkid. the next round, i switched but ONE utility skill, and used a different weapon and it made all the difference. i was able to, i won’t say breeze, but more than hold my own and move on my personal story.
i think part of the game design and it’s difficulties is that it challenges you to try out new skills and builds, and that’s part of the fun while leveing up. i didn’t feel i truly understood the class i was playing until lvl 30! so hopefully everyone here was able to help you somewhat.
remain steadfast in your adventures!! i too love exploring
D
mine everything you see, get every point, tag events and always hang around the NPCs after, you never know what might happen next and usually a large fchain of events nets you some pretty good XP as well. good luck!
like Lexy said a few posts above, check out that thread and hear about the UNION. just a group of like-minded players, originally started out to help new players, but now it’s slowly becoming a play to gather, meet new people and hopefully you’ll find enough on your server to play together. if not, can alway sjust chat cross server or even do some dungeon runs!
here it is again for easy access:

see u around kill! ; ))
hey folk. i’ve seen amny of these threads now. just to try to contribute to this discussion, a little background followed-up by some questions.
i’ve been gaming for.. most of my life. starting with mario bros on the giant grey GB, og Zelda, SFII.. then moved to PC gaming for a bit Red Alert, Warcraft II, then back to consoles and it was pretty much Playstation for me until recently, D3 and then now gw2. as you can see, this is my first MMO experience and i am absolutely loving it. having a blast.
so now the questions. bear in mind, these are genuine questions of mine..
1) what EXACTLY defines end-game? does it only exist in games that continually expand? many PC games, or specifically online games, or RPG’s if you will. and is it necessary for it to be in an MMORPG or any game for that matter?
2) instead of asking what there IS to do. can i ask first, out of curiosity, what are YOU looking for when you picked this game up? or what did you expect to find?
often, especially nowadays, players get extremely hype dby a game release, and they do everything, have fun, but then get bored. why is that? everyone wants a big release to be the perfect game for them, they expect it to match up to all their hopes and dreams a game could ever be. but in reality, that won’t always be the case. at least, with gw2, i think you are given enough flexibility for the game to be what you make it to be. again, fair enough, i don’t have the experience with other MMOs, then perhaps try not comparing it to other MMOs? and see gw2 for what it is. if it’s boring, then that’s too bad : ((( hopefully you won’t be gone for good.
you mentioned that PvP over and over or WvW over and over is the same thing and it gets boring. then might i ask what of our IRL regular hobbies? perhaps this may not be the right way of looking at it, or games are supposed to escape reality.. fact of matter is, we game because love it, because we liek to have fun, because it’s challenging. i myself am a soccer/football player. the game mechanic never changes, it’s the same, i play 8v8 on an astro turf pitch. it’s the same every week. my team remains largely the same, oppeonents are always different though.. i also run marathons, given that the location may be different each race, there are races i run every eyar and their track is the same.. why do i keep running? or playing soccer? for one, i love both sports. (or could be any hobby of yours!). eeach time i run alongside different people, i play soccer against different teams. other people improve. so i have to improve myself to stay in the game, or better yet, WIN. because i love winning. or is this not a fair comparison? just trying to bring into light that perhaps you could set goals for yourself in-game. try to challenge yourself. you mentioned the game and the world itself is amazing, then go explore it! try to master different weapon sets or use skills you’ve never dreamed of using before and try to take down the same mobs and bosses you previously did. come up with new builds to own in PvP that you’ve never seen before. group with randoms or new friends and go explore. your experience will be different every single time.
with that said.. this game is quite new, and yes, many of you have made it to 80 within weeks or even days. and got all the best armor. and have done everything. however, the game’s been only out for a few months now. if you’re into comparing this game to other games and other MMOs, how long have those been around? perhaps, it’s time to take a break, and come back when there have been expansions or things improved.
lastly, again, hopefully i didn’t offend anyone. just my thoughts and trying to understand why people are feeling this way. who knows perhaps i might reach that point too one day, but so far, i’m still having a blast. i play maybe 1 – 2 hrs each night or every other night. a bit more on the weekend. lvl 80, no alts and slowly working towards the gear set and weapon set i want. still have a ton to do. and looking forward to it. : ))
just building this further.. apart from sigil stacks, are there any other stats that remain after swapping weapons?
for e.g. if i have a two hand, and then a MH + OH for my second weapon set. only the stacks remain? what about a passive (e.g. +5% crit) on my OH or MH while my 2h is active? i assume the +5% crit is only active when i swap to that set and only my OH skills are affected? or all skills?
@Dracil – i used to run 0/15/30/20/5 build for the renewed justice as i too find that treat great. especially in PvE. although while playing PvE, as long as i got a hit on the target and anyone can land the killing blow, my F1 was refreshed. is this different in WvW? i eventually switched to 0/5/30/30/5 because ifor my play style, there were way too many benefits from the Honor line.
@Levian – the great thing about Brutaly and his guides are that they are really flexible. you can see by how he lists many different utilities / skills / upgrades for you to choose from and even builds so you can find one that matches your play style.
i myself run with 3 shouts (SY, Retreat and HtL usually and i’ll swap in other utilities when the situation calls for it). all shouts give boons so it works with AH. Hold the Line does have a long cooldown, ut i feel it’s quite crucial for me and my group.
i usually switch our retreat for Wall of Reflection if against lot of ranged. or add in condition removals if needed (usually purging flames, AoE conditiona removal as well as acts as a fire field —> AoE might from MB.
in terms of upping crit %, you mentioned what type of runes you’re using, but what armor are you running right now?
like carson said, the hammer is VERY dynamic even if you mainly play with #1 and #2. to add on to the dodging and being on the move constantly.. it’s really important where you place your symbol, so the positioning of your character and targeting / target switching is crucial and you can do wonders.
many do say #3, 4 and 5 are situational, i’d liek to think that you can create situations to use them. i’ve seen crits of close to 1k with my #3. some have said they’ve seen above that. and it’s great against a GROUP of mobs. #3, then dodgeroll in or #2 to close the gap, #5 to trap them yet again, and then start your chain all over and they should all be dead by then.
i like using #4 inside #5 as well. or #4 against walls to keep mobs / enemies tumbling or even in WvW using #3 to catch a fleeing enemy, and then #4 them in the oppoite direction, back to where your allies are – easy kill.
used with judge’s intervention, since this skill doesn’t cancel out the charging or channeling of #4 or #5 you can be in your opponents face in an instant, set them on fire and knock them away —> #3 —> #2 in again or immediately trap them and then start smashing on them.
4 / 5 moves are all AoEs, you can combo with yourself with end of #1 or #5 with #2 (super short CD, especially if traited), good control, you’re always on the move. i am never still apart from #5 for the casting. and is so much fun picking and choosing your targets while jsut using the #1 chain combo with #2, crits fly all over the place, boons all over the place.
check out the crithammer thread and the AH + hammer thread for some ideas of how to make the hammer more fun. : ))) even in PvE. even while solo-ing. least definitely is for me : )))
@Fabsm – okay, that makes more sense. i was trying to justify the 4pc set as well, and seeing that i try not to use my heal as a last resort, the extra life leech might be “overkill” or “wasted”. that’s just my own personal playstyle. and agreed that would proably be most beneficial to pairing it up with the combination of precision runes as you’ved listed.
this is on the to-do or to-try list!
@Crapgame – hahaha, not to keep pushing your buttons, it’s pretty funny your kids point that out to you. joking aside.. is it a matter of choosing what keys to bind where? or having to get used to them afterwards? it all comes with practice. along with keeping targets, switching targets and repositioning where you hit, or for e.g. turning to place your symbol on one group of mobs, then switching targets to MB on another that’s almost dead to take them out of the picture, while triggering the combo and boons galore…
in terms of weapons.. right now, the only exotics i have are the weapon sets i use most (hammer no doubt, and then scepter, shield, and staff.. the rest of my weps are rares or even greens (gasp!). i still definitely carry them all in my inv, and upgrade when i can. if you’d like to focus on the sword and focus, keep testing them out with what you have now, or maybe in a lower-level zone or even with the testing dummies and then start saving or investing. as much as we all love the hammer, we should definitely leverage on all the various skill and weapon sets we’ve given to truly become a formidable force – in dealing damage, in controlling crowds, in offering support. so versatile with the hammer, and the ton of diff combinations of weapons available to us further augment that.
just to better understand the mechanics, so say you pick a target, trigger leap of faith, and then hit JI while mid-leap? haha that’s pretty awesome.
Judge’s Intervention is an actually really fun and versatile utility and can be used in combination with many other skills. it also doesn’t cancel moves that are charging/channeling
welcome to all the new-comers!
D glad to see more people signing up and just in for good fun and good peoples. i’ll be on tonight and over the weekend hopefully so i’ll get on and hopefully be able to chat with you all! and maybe even some dungeons or what not. wait until they get guesting pinned down! XDD
@killmill – responded to ya!
add me in game as well. c u around and for RALL! lol
@nottsgman – i’m in another guild as well. sort of a new player. th ebest thing is we’ve people from all walks of life! and if you’ve more experience than even better – am sure many can learn from ya.
@Muffinz – haha that’s awesome. i miss college days where i can game all the time. O____o good you’re still getting your study on! engi is pretty time intensive, no?
@Tavvar – glad to have you here!! i solo sometimes, which i don’t mind. but it really does make a big difference playing in a group. look up the other EB Tyrians on here and hopefully you guys get a good group / vibe going!
@Umbox – more GH!!! haha you guys are representing big. it’s my first MMO as well. and i’ve no doubt you already found the people on GH! if not, get in touch with them. they’ve been having a blast so far
FOR GREA-F-FOR GR-FOR GREAT JUSTICE!
looks really kewl! but i woulda thought it would hold the same effects as well. the entire staff with at least maybe a faint glow and the head REALLy illuminating.
support here!!
i mentioned this elsewhere as well. further building on the idea of a “gallery” and for us to use our “hometowns” even more: what if they could add an instance (it’d be the same location for everyone) which would be titled the Trophy Room or Collectibles or “The Armoury”. upon entering, you’re greeted with armor stands and wall mounts where you could choose to display what you’ve collected.
to help ANet feel incentivized for this, people can buy Armoury Upgrades via the gemstore – more armor stands, more weapon racks, more embellishments and keep upgrading your room and collection. kind of similar to the mansion in Assassin’s Creed II (iirc) for those of you who are familiar. i just think it’d be kind of cool, instead of just in a gallery – which i absolutely love already.
there could even be an events section, for eg. a place to display the Mad King Thorn costume, and you could bust it out again each year. same for other festivities.
i for one am tryign to collect different weapon skins and armor, but BECAUSE i feel id on’t have enough room, i actually transmutate them and just saddens me to see them “go”. this would eliminate that problem, but still need transmutation stones – either do events, OR go through the gem store.
sorry for posting, unable to edit right now..
have some more questions regarding lifesteal..
hope i didn’t miss anything, but it seems to run the lifesteal you would want 4/runes of vampirism? secondly, regarding the the 4th set bonus. does this mean a 100% trigger of lifesteal after using healing skill (i assume this only means your “#6” skill).
then my question is, what would be most leveraging for the remaining two runes on your gear? since healing doesn’t seem to add much in a lifesteal build we can perhaps rule that out. if using in tandem with blood sigil, maybe focus on runes that raise your crit chance %?
hmm very interesting. intrigued to see how this pans out. going to do some researc now. might not be able to test in-game for a while, but will be theory crafting for a bit for now.
i’ve seen a bunch of people transmutate it. may do that once i get the supposed better backack from the personal story quest.
and i too, love the backpack, haha it’s the best!
color me a happy tirick-or-treater as well
DD
what’s a DRAGON FESTIVAL??? that sounds awesome.
in the beginning before the event went live, i read all these things about skins and achievements and new things to do. and being the “completionist” i am.. i have to do EVERYTHING and must have EVERYTHING. but gw2 and ANet PLUS this even really chagned that for me. after seeing the transformation LA went through, and the sheer fun and excitement of seeing a GIANT candy corn node from afar and farming them.. i don’t even “need” them anymore, but i’ll still farm ‘em. i’ll open ToT bags, to get even more candy corn!
DDD and i’m still ahving so much fun. oh, the eat til you puke aspect is so great.
true, i’m still working for the achievements, but i am having so much fun it doesn’t feel like a grind. or, in other words, even if it IS a grind, i don’t mind it. so so far, well done, ANet! just finished A1 last night, and teamed up with two randoms and turned out to be really fun! kept calling out DOOOOOOR UPAHEAD!!! CANDY CORN HEEERE while on the scavenger hunt. hehe good times. looking fwd to the rest of the event, as well as the rest of the years to come. ; ))) for Tyriaaaaaaaaa (and apples).
oh, wanted to add on to what Trungalung wrote. i always carry all weapons wherever i run. especially dungeons as well.
for e.g. my second set in dungeons is almost always the scepter and shield. also, using CM as an example since there are so many turrets and ranged mobs
- scepter 3 [Chains of light] is another bind, which i like having. a long with ZE on hammer, it helps to be able to keep a lot of mobs or even bosses snared
- scepter 2 [smite] just to note is extremely powerful, especially against stationary objects (e.g. turrents, burrows, what not)
- shield 4 [Shield of Judgment] dmgs foes AND gives protection to allies in a wave shape in front of you —> more boons —> more AH
- shield 5 [Shield of Absoprtion] really helps against projectiles (absorbs) and as well as push enemies away (do just this according to the situation though. for e.g. if you see allies charging up a move or ele’s dropping AoEs on some mobs, you may not want to push them away just yet; can also detonate to heal allies, but i rarely use this
but always, always maining a hammer.
not sure what the official way of asking for a sticky is but.. sticky this please!!
@Brutaly – thanks for ANOTHER great write-up. i’ve learnt so much from your previous thread and all the other regular contributors over there about the hammer. as you know, i’ve been a hammer user for a while, but i never did it any justice until reading your experiences and slowly learning and adapting to my own skill-level and play style.
p.s. are you still planning to post a vid of the animation skipping? just want to see it in action by you. :ppp i know your “policy” on videos haha
just sharing a bit from my experiences.. : ))
- since Brutaly is not as focused in PvE, i can attest that this build is EXTREMELY viable in PvE! when done right, you may find yourself always being the last man standing in a tough fight, or helping res people. once you realize all the synergies in this build and variations, it really is a beauty on the field
- a few variatons with mixing up #3, 4 and 5 for the hammer, which many people say are extremely situational. but be true, but i say why not create situations you can use them in?
- small typo? in section 8 and under Honor, i assume you meant “EM” as opposed to “ME”? just to save some confusion while reading. if i was wrong, i apologize lol.
@DeamonDusk – glad you’re on board with the hammer! this build is truly fun and Brutaly among with many other hammer / crit build Guardian experts are great in this community. as regards to your crit chance , i am hovering around 38 as well. so i’m wondering if the main difference comes from a full set of exotic gear, vs rare or masterwork gear in terms of stats. hopefully Brutaly or someone else can answer this
great analysis again guys. really tempted to try out the lifeleech build too. i’ve always been a fan of lifesteal. and so far, seemingly it ups your suvivability even more!
@ Brutaly – you’re right. my knight’s set is workign great right now and will probs stick with it. might just transmutate then ; ))
[added: checking out ur new write-up now!]
if anyone’s interested in doing dungeons, i am relatively new, but have experience with AC, CM, CoE, and SE. let me know if you’re interested and feel free to add me. “akaimon” is my main, Guardian : )))
also, if you want to brave some new dungeons or paths, we can do that as well. have patience to slowly learn if that’s what you need as well. once you get the hang of dungeons, it can be REALLY fun. hopefully everyone out there can find a group that they click with.
communications, awareness and openness is key i feel. and everything else will come with practice.
i think at this point it’s hard for them to “reimburse” in-game currency or the like. hopefully someday soon there will be a way. and hard for us to prove that we did infact “purchase” items, even if by accident or a bug. unless if they store all that data on their servers..
best thign right now, is to just be EXTRA careful and don’t ever rush. i think the vendor system in-game is a little bugged though. i bought a full set of armor once, gold was gone, but didn’t get all the items. my fault for clicking each item fast though, but maybe it couldn’t keep up or something. so i only got 4 pieces out of 6, but gold for 6 pieces was gone. and yes, i did count.
i don’t have authenticator either.
happened a lot during last big patch, iirc. was quite frequent and got a bit better after that. still occasionaly but went almost 2 weeks without disconnect. after this big patch, started to DC again a lot more. and quite frequent.
not a techie, but perhaps has to do with the servers re-recognizing the connections or stabilizing after the patch? not sure what goes on exactly server side. no problem with surfing net, playing other games or any type of other data transfer.
the scepter is actually pertty darn strong i feel. as someone said, it’s not a full on ranged weapon but more of a support or surpress fire ranged wep if you will. but at mid range, or even close range, it deals a LOT of dmg. so the scepter isn’t broken per se, it’s only if you want to use it like rangers use bows.
which goes back to the reason for this thread. i agree a ranged bow would be pretty frigging cool. and one of the BIGGEST well, issues, is that our spirit weapon has a bow, so why not for our actual arsenal of weapons to choose from?
Just having a little fun here:
1) Rays of Light / Auto-attack / chain attack / 1200 range – shoots bolts of energy from bow, up to 4 chains, each increasing slightly in dmg, if all 4 shots connect (with any mob, no need same target), 5th shot hits on an aoe blind and burns
2) Focused Arrow / blast finisher / stationary / 1200 range – suspends bow in midair sideways in front of characer and uses both hands to pull on the bow and release a stream of blue flames, burns mobs, maybe can pierce as well
3) Chains of Judgment / tiny charge-up / 900 range – a blast of energy that cripples up to three foes. “activate” energy chains to bring enemies closer or in (increased cooldown if activated)
4) Merciful Downpour (Shower? lol) / gound-targeting / 600 range – shoot up in a small arc a round of healing areas, AoE effect, can either heal for a bit over time, 5 seconds? or heals for a bit more but in one go
5) Wrathful Dome / 600 range – create a dome around you that absorbs projectiles, lasts for 5 seconds, activate again to release dmg absored back out in random directions
completely understand. and not crazy at all. it might be different with tokens but karma at least, i had no luck. there’s talk of how in the future there might be a “Confirm” option when we buy. might be good, might be bad (for example, if you want to buy a TON of a certain something and having to confirm each time). there’re many ways around this and hopefully ANet will have answer for your current predicament.
the worst bit is, what we accidentally bought can’t really be used for anyone or anything else. maybe waste it in the mystic forge… :///
lol, fair enough. i did pretty much have no funds left after i invested into this set. and i had to do it bit by bit of course. but it paid off in the end! and still paying off now ; )))
i did sort of list it last, as the other points i mentioned before hand helped me accumulate enough to do so XDD
good luck!
i’m working towards my “end-set” as well. so many possible combinations so you’re going to have some fun. lol. and that’s just stats i’m talking about. then you have the look. and then the dyes to worry about haha
and just a random question on the side. and i’m posting it here because you guys are most familiar with this build and the synergies different types of gear can create.
so i’m a Norn Guard and down the road, would like to be able to acquire the T3 cultural armor. and they have the stats Power/Tough/Vitality. Which isn’t bad either. So my question is, do you guys reckon this build could still work if slotted with the right jewelry and runes? to make up for the crit chance. If there’s vitality, i wouldn’t need valkyrie jewels which is what i was aiming for for a bit more vitality. so i have more room to play with zerker’s even. however, i feel with the runes i have a lot less room to play with as i’d need to focus on crit % with those. am i looking at the situation correctly?
if not, i can always just transmutate. but i’d rather not transmutate something that’s so costly. although i technically AM getting the armor for the skin alone.. any suggestions / advice? haha thanks fellow hammer smashers.
[added: ooh, al cultural armors are only rare stat-wise, right? in that case, might just transmutate the skin onto exotic stats that i’ll be aiming for :pp although the stats am sure can be still viable with the right runes / jewelry]
(edited by akamon.2769)
that’s a great thread. lot of good info, theorycrafting PLUS testing. good people sharing good info. very constructive and i’ve learned a lot. i play crit focused hammer as well and LOVE it. second set usually staff (for mobility or mob tagging and empower for might stacks + AH healing) as well as GS for binding blades and just more raw power.
hey Fabsm, that’s a pretty cool build and thanks for trying it out and sharing with us! thanks for the test as well Hjulstad. seems healing power really doesn’t scale well with most of the Guards skills / builds.
personally don’t mind that TOO much though. gives me more room to focus on other stats. ; ))
@Zankou – just to add a bit, i recall you saying you’re trying to pull the combo “combo 1+2, dodge, 3, dodge, MB (back in the action)”. what i usually do is combo 1+2, dodge depending on where i want to go, enemy attack, etc, then 3. and while the 3 is charging up, i’ll repositioning myself, or click on another mob for better placement of the symbol. which can be crucial at times. i look for either where there are more mobs, or more allies. preferablly a bunch of melee allies fighting a bunch of mobs.
D crits galore, and boons applied galore – which hugely benefit our build. and then after that, i got straight into mighty blow. i try not to use up both my dodges in one chain. as it does take time to fill for me, even with rigorous precision i feel.
the more you play and practice you’ll get better at utilising your dodges. sometimes i even go 1+2+3, dodgeroll either away or in and then mighty blow and can still trigger the combo. and it looks especially cool when you dodge away, the enemy’s attack misses, and you mighty blow back in!
D and Brutaly brought up a good point about keeping an eye on the boon, as that is what triggers the combo. it’s a lot to take in but soon enough it’ll be second nature and you’ll know when you will trigger and when you can’t so in case you want to save mighty blow for missing the window, you can do that too. also know that #5 is a light field which can also trigger AoE retal if you mighty blow with it up. just another little tactic i use to keep retal and boons up.
and another side note, why do i change targets? at least in PvE (and sometimes in dungeons, unless if certain targets MUST be taken out first) i do.. and that’s because i try to lower all mobs health so in case something DOES go wrong, and i get swarmed, or an ally gets swarmed, our chances or rallying are a lot higher if most mobs have lower health. this is just a general rule i follow though, and not all the time. situation depending. plus, the more mobs you touch, the more chance for loot and xp : ))
still loving this build. with halloween going on, haven’t had time to finish building my set yet, but will get on it.
D
at this point in time, i think there isn’t much to be done in the “accidental” purchases and they won’t be able to reinstate lost karma, gold, tokens or any form of currency. least that is to my understanding.
you can try to submit a ticket, but chances might be slim. i accidentally spent 36k karma on a T2 cultural wep. lol. sigh.
best bet is while waiting, run AC until u know it like the back of your hand! sorry to hear and good luck!!
hey there. i myself leveled up to 80 myself before attempting any dungeons. the very first story mode i ran was CM in Queensdale (Human starting zone). after joining a group, i let them know it was my first time. and they were friendly enough to say, this one isn’t too bad, don’t worry about it and to just follow their lead.
don’t doubt your own abilities. the more important thing is to have an open mind to learn. be able to communicate well with the group. and slowl you’ll gain confidence. i can say that i’ve learnt more how my character plays in the dungeons and i love running dungeons now (for fun, for tokens, what not). and if people are being buttholes, that’s their problem. not yours. just do your best to be part of the team.
that being said, to find a good group, might take some time as well. so don’t be discouraged if your first dungeon experience didn’t go as well as you’d hoped or you didn’t click with the group. keep trying! and do your best. remember in dungeons, it’s all for one and one for all.
and i would suggest going for a more survivable build to start with. and the more you do, you’ll know what your limits are and you can adjust your gear / traits and build more accordingly.
while we’re at it, why not try to find some video or written guides on dungons that you’r einterested in. just to SORT of see what might be coming if that helps you. but you learn most when you’re thrown in there.
btw, which server are you on?
here’s a shameless plug as well:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/first
a bunch of players decided to start a guild and an operation to help each other out. it’s still small but steadily growing now! maybe you can find someone on your server there. or even cross server to do dungeons together. i know some, myself included, will be wanting to do some runs in the future.
lastly, again, just have an open midn to learn, experiment, and you’ll learn to be awesome at dungeons.
hmm strange how this has been going on for so long. i’m not at that point where i can freely wildly spend my karma yet. but this problem has been around since day 1? haven’t been following the issue too closely.. have there been any official statements?
i can see the original logic behind it, to have a vendor that you have to follow through an event to reach for some of the “best stuff” in the game (armor, legendary components..) but to have it bugged just doesn’t seem.. not sure what the word is.. but yea, that.
ooh so you have to hit “Enter”. fair enough, not intuitive though.
and at the same time, the window is TINY. although, i don’t mind it though. more of a design choice. hopefully it gets further improved in future patches.
aww can it be made earlier during the weekend? so that people ALL around the world can experience this one time event? it’ll be 3, 4am (Monday morning) by that time for us folk across the world.
again, just wanting to be part of this event and looking forward to it. : )))
i for one am just frigging happy that pact weapons are available!
you make it sound like you did the personal quest JUST for the token and pact weapon. by now, we know this game is 80% skin. ; ))) didn’t you have fun along the way of your personal story? and the satisfaction of beating [end-game boss] with a capable group should not be enough?
am curious to hear what you might suggest for the personal story quest reward then. out of curiosity. since maybe just a rare IS not enough for end-game. although i don’t mind at all and looking forward to when i complete my personal story.
i personally think this event was great. given i didn’t know what to do right off the get go or have anyone holding my hand. i was confused. but the place was so well-designed. there was so much fun going on. the tooltips might not be the best, but it gives us, the users, room to explore and figure stuff out on our own. which i think is great. eventually, i started spending time, noticing the details, reading all the messages, taking note of what others are doing… which is one of the best ways to learn how to experience this game. and soon enough, i know what i have to do, what can be done, and what i’d like to do.
yes, perhaps the event was not as fleshed out as you’d liked it to have been. but for you to let this one experience completely change the fact that you like the game, is quite disheartening to hear. don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to affect how i play and love the game, but it’s just sad to hear that.
if you were on my server, and i saw your messages asking what to do. i would have answered “i have no idea. trying to figure it out now. wanna party up?” and go from there. hopefully you’ll be able to keep playing the game the way you used to and not let ONE event get you down. maybe not everything in the game was designed for everyone. but don’t let that discount the bits that you do love.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN IN TYRIA EVERYONE!!!! welcome to all the new folk. has everyone been having a blast?? been on constant sugar highs and puking too much from the candy corn O___________________o lol. reminiscent of real life when i was young.. i kid i kid haha
WvW is really fun! wonder if we’ll ever get pit against one another. ; )))) gold, loot, etc definitely is not as much in WvW but it’s GREAT for karma if you need to farm some! and it’s pretty fun. very different part of the game, and i try to get in for the badges (legendary crafting O__o) as well as the 50 invaders kill for the monthly. haha it’s intimidating at first but you get used to it after a while ; )) try to find a good group to run with!
@Glitch – would definitely love to do some AC runs! i need quite a few of the tokens and i love the look and feel of the dungeon. i can help a bit with CM as well. and maybe some SE or CoE. not SUPER familiar but know the general patterns so to speak. if anyone’s interested, let us know! and maybe we can get something together and put a time together to meet : ))
@Laszlo – the more the better! there is a concentrated handful of servers where most of us are. i’m on Sanctum or Rall, and there MIGHT be one more person from there : )) ideally, we’ll spread across all over Tyria, representation on all servers, all timezones, lol so do join in!! and welcome.
the subsequent 10 mails after that were gold spam…
so you still haven’t gotten the items yet? i always clear my inbox. my inbox is actually pretty empty. unless if i’m using some as storage space, lol.
put in a ticket and i am sure they’ll get back to you soon enough! good luck and you guys get this figured out soon. i’ve usually received items pretty much on the spot.
1) START THE HALLOWEEN EVENT! lol. just take part in it. would hate to see anyone miss it. though i see where you’re coming from as well. best advice to say is, have an open mind! don’t let this experience be the be-all, end-all for your game. it’s sort of like.. when you meet a girl/guy during the holiday seasons, and then you go back to “real life” and it’s all different.. lol. so as long as you’re aware of this going in ; ))) i think you’ll have a good time. each event, etc has a day or two before the next Act or event comes up, so you’ll have time to figure it out. i started played since the early headstart and still had to take time to figure out how the halloween events work. there are guides popping up here and there as well. with gw2, as long as you have an open mind, and not wanting to rush everything and just have a mindset to enjoy, then you’ll love it. and even if it’s just seeing Lion’s Arch (main hub city) all decked out in Halloween gear and then seeing it later in it’s normal state will be a treat. if u have it now, PLAY NOW! lol
2) haha PC here. well have a mac too, but don’t game on it usually. good luck and hopefully some will chime in! if not, maybe check out the mac beta forum thread?
gw2 is a great game. my first MMO and new to gw as well and i’ve been having a BLAST. glad to have you here and good luck, have fun!
D
hey the Pact weapons are available after you finish your personal story i believe.
i’ve read that people have received or are receiving their “Pact tokens” now after completion of personal story. However, where you find the vendor is currently bugged and will be fixed in the next patch (not this current one on oct 23).
this is my undersatnding at least. hopefully this helps! others can chime in as well if they know more or otherwise.
you can see the following post for more info as well:

i’m a Guardian here and you COULD call me dungeon-focused. trying to get the achievement/experience all the game has to offer/ tokens for legendary of vanity armor sets and weapons/ just for fun!
i play quite supportive, while survivable, while still being able to do decent amount of damage. i’d like to think that i am able to hold the team up at times. make good use of your aoe blinds as well as aoe aegis when you see big pulls coming up from a boss and can easily save the team from wiping. you have a lot of condition removal at hand, a lot of anti-range as well as shouts and boon giving. i’m excited when i see other guardians or warriors (banners, banners everywhere!) in my group!
on the other hand, am sure each server is different, but on mine, most people just call for group, without asking what you are, rather ask if you’re experienced or not. if not? then they’ll know to guide you more. and even if an exprienced group, people will still talk strategy so it sort of goes with luck if you can find a good group or not. and once you do, try to stick with ’em.
dungeons can be a really fun challenge. while at others, can be very frustrating. lol. let me know if you want to talk some builds! and you can pm me ; )))
congrats!
D always glad to see another 80 guardian hehe.
first, i’d say try to figure out what kind of stat combos you want! i’m going with Knight’s armor (power, toughnes, precision) and that’s craftable so i’m working my way towards crafting as well. obviously, looking to have a set of exotics (orange) as best armor stat-wise.
you can also check out the dungeon token vendors at LA (near Fort Mariner wp iirc), the line of vendors you see near the asura gates. they have different stat sets as well so take a look at those. some look pretty darn kewl as well.
there are also karma vendors at the temples in Orr as mentioned above.
there’s also the invader set at the WvW armorsmith which you can buy with badges of honors (wvw tokens)
i personally am goign to save for a cultural t3 set, cause i like the way it looks : PPP
you can check out dulfy’s guides:
http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/
check under armor and or the end-game gearing guide for some more details! : )) and good luck!!!
sounds like a silly question – but will the one-time event on the 28th be occuring over the period of 24 hours or even occur a few times? just to accomodate for the different time-zones. : )))
and what time on the 28th?? i’m from Hong Kong so we’re 12 hours ahead and if it doesn’t come on until 11:59pm of the 28th, i’d be at work already ;///
just really wanna be able to be part of this event! cause you guys have already blown me away with day 1. haha
hey vince! just wanna ask a quick question – what will be your use of proceeds? and depending on that, there are multiple ways to make gold. note – i don’t make gold super fast, but very surely and steadily.
just some quick hints, sorry for any repeats in the thread. and like FIldy said, a lot of this works IRL. cut costs, and naturally you’ll see your gold amass.
Note, i ask what you want the gold for because for me, i am saving for a legendary so i need both mats AND gold. i figured if i sold all my mats, i could make a lot more gold, but alas. the same with ecto’s, i salvage for them in hopes of getting them. but if you don’t need them, just sell them if you do come across them.
- check out the TP and i like to take note of which items are most demanded / most traded
- salvage all white items (even leather items) and sell mats. gossamer can sell for quite a bit
- blue / green items i always vendor. with green items though i always check the TP and see if they go for decent amount above vendor price (including fees). then start to recognize which types of items go for more
- yellow, TP or salvage depending on glob of ectoplasm prices and how lucky you feel. level 68+, 70+ to be safe can yield 0-3 ectoplasms, which sell for a bit on the TP. if my yellow is near or above ONE ecto price, i’ll usually just sell it though. also check the sigil or runes to see if they’re highly desired, if so, use a Black Lion salvage kit, and go for a chance of ectos to sell
- exotics, again, depending, you can sell. i tend to NOT salvage these but supposedly they can yield more ectos as well. also, remember to take note of the sigil / runes
- note how much you spend on traveling / repairs. if you WvW a lot, if you REALLY want, when downed, you can take all your armor off before you die. lol, i don’t do this though
- i’m not a big fan of the mystic forge, but some people can and have made a profit from it. do a little research there are a bunch of guides out there that have recipes and you can take a look at what you have and CAN generate
- if you like running dungeons, there’s always a chance for lodestones, and or cores. destroyer, charged, corrupted, etc etc all sell for quite a bit. molten and glacial are on the low ends.
- wear an MF set! i have a rare explorer’s set with 5 superior pirate runes and 1 superior traveler rune. along with green (masterwork) jewelry; i got a bunch of MF% increasing food as well; and don’t be afraid to use MF boosters if you have them available if you know you’re goign to go on a run – helps with chances to drop better loot so you can sell. there are also food out there that gives +MF% and +gold%
just general guidelines that i run to slowly increase my gold. i don’t get to play a whole lot either, but i don’t do impulsive buys, my gold inscreases at a decent rate. : ))) hope this helps! not the best way to make gold perhaps, but it’s working for me.
super kwel! haha that’s awesome. (and what’s wrong with the Charr?? haha)
maybe i need me a female toon too XPP
haha as long as you knwo what you’re getting into! haha. and yea, certain more popular runes can get pretty pricey. i think it’s worth saving up for superior runes though (but of course, depends on if you’re getting the set of 6, as well as what combos you’re going for, and if maybe major rune of the same type would have better 2 pc stats)
haha it’s always good practice to perfect dodging and kiting! those can for sure save your lives more than your gear at times. ; ))
all this talk makes me want to play now. getting off work soooon! lol
and p.s. day off tomorrow! XDDD dungeons map completions here i come haha
would love a timer for other bosses. remember the very time doing shadow behemoth we just stumbled on it and i wasn’t even too sure of what i was doing yet so just tried to stay alive. i’d imagine it’d be a lot more fun to do it again but haven’t been abel to find it again yet. :PP
hahaha, can be sure of that! that’s pretty funny. are there any girls that play as male characters? interesting to see that statistic too.
oh, that’s something i didn’t know. do we need to do the specific paths? i figured doing each path would net you tokens, and you can just buy the different gear / weps based on which stats you want, and like you mentioned, i believe 3 sets of stats for each dungeon?
either way though, GRATS! berserker’s is awesome. i can’t afford to do that yet, without some toughness, so i’m running knight’s (still only rares!! need exotics soon haha) and then trying to balance with my jewelry, maybe a mix of valkyrie and berserker’s.. and my runes are more for support. took quite a bit of time researching which runes i wanted, and am STILL unsure but for now, sticking with what i have until i can afford more ; ))
far from perfect we all are, the best part of that all? is that we get to keep bettering ourselves. and building one another up. part of the UNION no? ; )))
Bri, make sure you have Glitch bring me along on those dungeon runs too!
i know what you mean Glitch. we can control how people will act, so all we gotta to is keep testing our own patience, and find ways to deal with that. and in hopes that through that, they will learn new ways – for e.g. that they can just admit it’s their first time or they’re still new. or maybe take a break from doing dungeons with PUGs or new people. you can still help out by keeping your presence here (cause it’s always much needed and welcomed!) as well as just running map completions, jumping puzzles or even finding difficult vistas ; )))
ahh gotcha. thanks for the clarification. i’ve heard of this before and many were doing it with their starter gear.
now my next question is if i did indeed transmutate it to a white, which “unsoulbinds it” (even though it might still say soulbound), can i mail it to another account? i.e. a friend to use?
i salvage all whites. blues i usually sell. greens i’ll check the TP, in rare cases you get more than the vendor – start to recognize which types of items, along with which group of stats sell more.
for yellows – i check price on TP. then i check prices for ectos. then check if i’m feeling lucky. if it sells for quite a bit (significantly higher than price of just 1 ecto, i’ll sell it), if it’s around the same price of ONE ecto and i feel lucky, then i’ll salvage. it’s been approximately 50 50 for me receiving just one ecto. so it’s not TOO bad. though i want to say in the long run, you could probably make more selling the rares. also take note of what sigil is in them. if the sigil itself is in high demand, then i’d use a Black Lion kit to ensure you get the sigil, while salvaging for the chance at some ectos.
(note: if i am crrect only lvl 68 and above have a chance for ectos. make it 70 to be safe)
exotics? if they don’t sell for a butt load, i save ‘em for now. still haven’t entirely deicded what to do with these yet.
